Playing AC 2 and reading through the codex - on page 6
Though I ask my brothers now to abandon their rituals, I do not ask that they abandon the creed. THIS is what makes us assassins. Not the removal of a finger. Not a false promise of paradise. Not the prohibition of poison. Our duty is to the people, not to custom. If we must sneak, we shall sneak. If we must use poison, we shall use poison. If our blades can be used without removing fingers, we shall not demand they be taken. And we shall not manipulate our initiates with lies and parlor tricks. We shall speak plainly and honestly. We shall be made anew...
Altaïr. Honey. You need so much therapy. Get Malik to give you all the therapy.

also the entire storyline of basim trying to juggle becoming an assassin and slowly realizing the hypocrisy of the brotherhood when it comes to freedom and obeying all orders (VERY ALTAIR’S CODEX... CODED WE LOVE TO SEE IT) next to figuring out his past as loki has the potential to be SO INTERESTING but god is writing not ubisoft’s strong point so i am scared. i feel like it’s gonna be another dose of missed potential <333

Day 2 of Codextober
codex
Also posted on my ao3
The fire crackled well into the cozy, late evening. Your sleeping form curled tightly to his side, Ezio stroked his fingers through your hair as he read through the manuscript. Altair was a man of many talents, yet Ezio noted that he was
All accounts of his travels, strides, and marks among the Brotherhood were achievements of the highest regard but that paled in comparison to the words Altair wrote of you. Your achievements, your strides and how you built up the Brotherhood by his side. Words of praise and adoration, both as an Assassin and as one who held the greatest possession imaginable. Altair's heart.
It stung at Ezio's heart when he realized the change in tone. Altair's greatest loss. The day you were taken from him. It was a feeling all too familiar to Ezio, the loss of his father and brothers and Cristina, that tied him to Altair.
The rest of that night, Ezio held on to you tighter than he normally did.

I can't help but wonder...has anyone figured out the significance of what I named Ezio's horse in WWBFT??
Answer under the cut!
as @omegabeast27 guessed, Ezio's horse is named (unknowingly by Ezio, anyway) after Dante Alighieri.
Why?
In the Auditore Family Crypt, there are memoirs on the walls written by Ezio's great-great-grandfather, Domenico. In them, he states how his father introduced him to Marco Polo and Dante Alighieri, and that Dante would be training him to be an Assassin like his father.
The memoirs go on to explain how, after his training, he was supposed to escort Dante to Spain, where Dante was going to protect Altair's (completed) Codex.
Before such a thing could happen, the Templars killed Dante, trying to retrieve the Codex. Domenico went to inform his father and Marco Polo of what had happened, and he was told to leave for Spain immediately with his wife, Isabetta, and son, Renato, with the Codex.
On the ship to Barcelona, they had to take shelter at a port to avoid a coming storm. Amidst the storm, pirates (hired by the Templars) snuck onto the ship, looking for the Codex.
The pirates were not discovered until it was too late to flee, so Domenico hid with his wife and son in the hold, where he broke the spine of the Codex and hid the pages within the various boxes and containers meant to be traded.
Domenico was restrained as the pirates demanded the Codex, and when he told them he had thrown it overboard, they proceeded to sexually assault and eventually kill Isabetta, throwing her body overboard.
Domenico and Renato were thrown overboard as well, the goods on the ship stolen, and the ship itself sunk. Domenico was able to get to shore with his son, Isabetta's body washing ashore the next day.
Domenico took his son and made his way to Florence, where he used Marco Polo's account to draw upon money and make his way to Venice to find Polo and his father.
Both were already dead.
Domenico returned to Florence, where he took to studying the classics, taking vocal lessons, and impersonating a Noble at the Florentine Court, taking on the name 'Auditore' and successfully hiding himself and his son from the Templars.
He purchased the Villa in Monteriggioni, renovated it, trained his son to be an Assassin, and made it his life's goal to hunt the Templars in Italy to extinction to honor his late father and wife.
Domenico did many great things in his life, keeping Altair's Codex out of the hands of the Templars, building the Auditore Crypt, Villa and Sanctuary with his own designs to secure the Armor of Altair, and diminishing the Templar influence in Italy.
So why is Ezio's horse named Dante? Because Domenico, in his own memoirs, stated that Dante Alighieri, in becoming his mentor, ruined any happiness Domenico would ever have in life. And Dante (the horse) is a spiteful beast that likes to ruin lives...in his own way, lol.
Also, strange that Domenico comes from a long line of Assassin's, and yet his father didn't tell him about it until he was old enough to have already been married with a child. Kind of reflects on Giovanni, who while training Federico, hadn't told Ezio until it was too late.
(Sorry for the long AC history lesson. I just thought that Domenico's life was indeed tragic and wanted to incorporate it a tiny bit in my story. Dante (the horse) became quite a big character and I just wanted people to know his name actually had a lot of thought behind it, in comparison to all the other horses lol.)

Some silly shaundes fluff bc I'm sad
"Is the update done yet." I asked from my spot on the floor.
Rebecca had wanted to put in an update that was taking longer than normal to download. So, for the past hour, I have been left with nothing to do except wait. It was excruciating.
"Not yet, and if you keep asking, I'm going to make you wait even longer." Rebecca said, not looking up from her computer.
I sat up, desperate for something to do. Ever since I had started using the animus, sitting still for long periods of time became nearly impossible. I had become used to the feeling of always being on the move, jumping from buildings, running from guards, stabbing targets, etc.
Shaun was sitting in a nearby chair while reading some kind of document. I stood up and walked over to him. I looked over his shoulder at what he was reading, it was a rough copy of one of Altair's codex pages, probably copied down from the animus.
Normally I wouldn't have cared, but I had already memorized all of the codex pages, and I wasn't too eager to read it again.
"You couldn't read anything more interesting." I sighed.
"You couldn't stand sitting still for 1 hour." He said sarcastically.
"No, I can't and now I'm extremely bored." I said, hoping he would give me something to do.
He sighed, setting down the page before turning to me. "You could go train, check your skill retention."
I could do that, it would keep me occupied, but I didn't feel like doing it alone, and Lucy was at the store. I could always ask Shaun...
"Wanna watch me." I asked.
"No, why would I want to do that?" He stated.
"Well, I can't go alone in case I hurt myself, Lucy isn't here, and Rebecca is working on the animus."
He paused for a moment, "Fine." He sighed while standing up.
I had a silent celebration. "Okay let's go." I said while practically dragging him out of the room.
Once we were in the training room, *which was in my opinion the best room in the warehouse* I grabbed one of the practices knives and walked into the fighting ring. It was a small circle with around a dozen fake dummies set up around the circle.
Shaun stood outside the railing, leaning against it.
"Want me to do anything specific?" I called out.
Shaun thought for a moment before pulling out his phone. "Try taking all of them out in 30 seconds."
I grinned while readying myself.
Once he saw that I was reading, Shaun told me to start.
For most of the dummies, I used my hidden blade, I quickly tore through them, straw flying out at me.
"10 seconds!" Shaun called out.
I started to move faster, once I only had one dummy left, I sent my dagger, flying at it. The knife went straight through its neck, pinning it to the wall behind it.
Shaun held up his phone, 3 seconds to spare. I looked around the arena. Fabric, and straw everywhere.
"Looks like you've been learning a lot from Ezio." Shaun said while looking at the mess surrounding me.
I grinned while retracting my hidden blade. I walked over to Shaun, pulling myself up onto the railing. I sat on the rail next to Shaun. I was now out of breath.
I decided to take off my sweatshirt due to all of the hay now clinging to it.
I pulled it off, tossing it to the side. I noticed Shaun was staring at my arms in shock.
"Since when did you have this many muscles?!" He said, clearly shocked.
"Since always?" I said while laughing.
I guess I had always worn a hoodie around them, but I didn't expect Shaun to be that surprised.
"You bloody asshole." He said while shoving my arm.
I laughed a bit, just then Lucy walked in holding some plastic bags.
"Hey, bought some supplies, should last us through the week. Can you guys' help put them away?"
"Ya sur-" I tried to respond but I was cut off by Shaun.
"Lucy! Did you know that Desmond has muscles?" He said while holding up my arm.
Lucy laughed. "You didn't?"
"No!" Shaun called out while dropping my arm.
"Okay well you can drool over Desmond's muscles after the groceries are put away." She said while leaving.
Shaun face went red as he turned to follow Lucy, as he was leaving, he called over his shoulder. "Since you're strong you have to carry the bags."
"What? No fair!" I called out while following after him.
I love the idea of Rebecca and Shaun being so shocked at Desmond's muscles while Lucy and Desmond laugh at them.

I would like a preference for Altair, Ezio, Connor, Arno, Edward and anybody else you want. I want one based on what artistic gift each of them has as a talent/hobby. Like if their artistic gift is writing/poetry or music etc Thank you

。・:*˚:✧。 altaïr ibn-la'ahad
♡ drawing
♡ based off all the designs and illustrations in the codex pages, I'd say that Altaïr already knew how to draw really well even before studying the apple. He would keep a pocket-sized sketchpad and some charcoal maybe and it would just be a free time activity of his
。・:*˚:✧。 ezio auditore
♡ music
♡ in Revelations, Ezio mentions having learned a few chords on the lute but I think he's underplayed it. I can picture young Ezio as having to learn certain courtly hobbies, being a nobleman, and music was one of them. The lute is portable and so it could double up as a tool for him to bring to a lady's window where he would try and woo her with a song. Once his family was killed, he had little time for music and so he can only remember a few basic chords by the time he uses the lute in the mission in Revelations.
。・:*˚:✧。 edward kenway
♡ singing
♡ Edward has never really had time for anything artistic. He grew up on a farm, frequented the local pub, became a privateer and went on to become a pirate. He's always been too preoccupied for art. However, it comes to light that he has quite the amazing singing voice by the time he's joining in to the sea shanties once he becomes a privateer.
。・:*˚:✧。 ratonhnhaké:ton | connor kenway
♡ wood carving
♡ Connor likes to make little wooden statuettes as gifts for his loved ones. He'll find a decent piece of wood and start whittling away at it until he's handing you a beautiful swan or wolf figure. It's always been a little hobby of his because it's so convenient as long as he has his knife on him.
。・:*˚:✧。 arno dorian
♡ dancing
♡ Arno might be into poetry and prose now but he wasn't during his childhood - that was always Élise's thing - so he's still catching up in that area, despite what others may thing at first glance. Arno was always being bested by Élise in fencing as they were growing up too so, being a young boy and irritated that his step-sister was besting him at everything, he went out to find something that he could one-up her in. He came to find that while Élise loathed dance (namely because she was terrible at it), he has a good sense of rhythm and not only was he good at dancing but he enjoyed it greatly.

The previous post that I reblogged truly moved me. But I didn't want to write this there for reasons. I'm writing it here to remind myself.
I may have talked about the subject before but Assassin's Creed saved me too when I lost... a big part of my family, my faith, my soul, myself? I don't know how to describe it properly. To be so far from yourself, so out of touch with all that mattered, so close to the edge and then to be pulled back by... a creed.
"Where other men blindly follow the truth, Remember, nothing is true. Where other men are limited by morality or law, Remember, everything is permitted. We work in the dark to serve the light." -- Assassin's creed II
"To say that nothing is true, is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic." -- Assassin's creed Revelations
"Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. The creed does not command us to be free. It commands us to be wise." Assassin's creed I
These calmed me down, helped me ground myself, helped me find sense in the chaos that was consuming me. Those words remained a sort of mantra with me for years; a shield against... many things.
There was a time I had difficulties breathing and as I was playing Black flag; the minigames where you have to hack into computers with the dot getting across the field of moving barriers, I learned a trick. Breathing in as I slowly said "Al" then more with "ta" then out with a slow "ir". That gave a rythymn to them all but... I started using it outside the game. Now I have no special bond with Altair (Ezio though miaow) but... it helped. Damn, I could get a good breath for the first time in... years.
Altair's codex pages, his philosophy... just something about him was grounding. Or perhaps living through it all through Ezio. He lost more than I had lost and still survived. It brought... no not hope, I still loath hope somehow... it brought strength, perspective.
The games have sadly since gotten worse... shamefully Disney like... forgotten what they were about but... the fact is that when they were in their glory they were life changeing.
We should try our best to keep them so. We should demand quality. Not settle for... pretty.
And no this doesn't apply only to Assassin's creed video games.
Skyrim is perfect though. Never say a bad word about Skyrim. It's holy.

i maxed out my templar awareness in the hopes i’d get a den defense sequence... then found out i can just replay the tutorial
one of the assassins guild challenges is about winning 3 den defenses, so i thought i’d just try to trigger them as fast as possible and just get them over with. so i annoyed some guards on the roofs then went to the imperial district which is just an entire restricted district and turns out it actually has a??? court??? full of janissaries. i fucked around with them nearly died then figured out how to do the counter steal which doenst always work but when it does its amazing, like you do the counter steal then you gotta attack them real fast and they just die. one of the few ways to kill them fast and you don’t even need to loot the corpse afterwards.
and i only looked up how to trigger the sequences after i did all that and conveniently found out that replaying the tutorial section in sequence 2 actually counts for whatever reason. which is extremely convenient since i might end up just never getting a sequence due to how im progressing through the game
but yea i completed sequence 3 thankfully it had more than like one story-event, it had some missions with blending and disguise and shit and it was really cool. ezio got to dress up as a minstrel and sing very badly, it was amazing. fuck i miss them minstrels. and now there’s these ‘sofia memories’ which idk what triggers them or if they just get unlocked by default, but they’re really cool.
except that the first one was right next to a tunnel entrance and when i travelled there it was a restricted area and i suddenly had 50 guards on my ass, including a few janissaries. wtf is this wack ass design choice, like yes areas can change from normal to restricted throughout the game for various reasons, but at least make it so im unable to travel to the tunnel entrance or make it so the tunnel isnt actually in the area, jesus christ. that was annoying so now i have to walk everywhere in fear of it happening again.
ive also really run out of things to do lmao like ive explored the accessible areas so well by now and nearly everything has been bought and rebuilt and i just have nothing to do apart from leveling up my recruits and triggering plot events sometimes. there’s like 10 of these memoir pages around the map but they’re very easy to get and you can also buy a map for them. animus fragments give no reward so they’re not worth looking for unless i stumble upon them and there’s just nothing else to collect or /do/ right now. heck where’s the million optional side quests and parkouring challenges and shit. there’s the master assassin missions that show up when a recruit gets to level 10 and you can appoint them to a den, they’re pretty cool missions but limited, and the quests involving thieves mercenaries and romanies i’ve had so far have all been plot-related, and others haven’t shown up yet??
even going for 100% sync is kinda worthless imo like sometimes its easy but sometimes its just too annoying and the reward is just some cheats whatever the fuck that means and old altair’s outfit which i don’t care about. speaking of outfits there’s just no colour scheme that makes ezio’s clothes really black in this game and while my current colour scheme is really cool i just really miss the black :(
speaking of altair there was a memory where i got to play as him and it was interesting. his moveset was the same and the mission itself was really easy, but story-wise i found it interesting since i dont know the context and i also don’t really know what to think about him. like i read all of the codex pages in ac2 and i loooooved them, based on those i really like him as a person but i do not like his voice or his face, and apparently in ac1 he’s kind of a blank slate. so im kinda worried about playing ac1 eh.
but yea holy fuck i cant believe how different this game is. its the same but also not, it has so many new things and the entire atmosphere is just so so so so different from brotherhood i really love it. just wish i could dye his clothes black :((((((

I’ve been thinking about a post made by @stealingpotatoes about how Altaïr trauma dumps into the Codex and you know what? Good for him. If I was this all time brilliant assassin mentor and someone came looking for all of the knowledge I had, they are going to have to read about all of my fucking trauma as a final boss of sorts. I don’t have enough money for therapy and it doesn’t even exist yet so this codex will have to do.

Summary: Adam and Eve were inseparable, and they were always stronger together. Until they weren’t.
A/N - for July’s monthly codex prompt/ finally I post something 😅 on the last day of July
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every Adam had his Eve, and they bright out the best of each other. But like all good things, it comes to an end with a hefty price.
Bayek created the Order in his grief, and though Aya was the closest to him in this matter, he never truly had her. She was never just his wife anymore after that day, and nights felt colder without her.
Altair thought he would have that semblance of a peaceful life with Adha, but that dream slipped away when she left his arms. At least it was a life he got to have with Maria and his beloved sons before it was taken away in just one day.
Ezio was young and reckless before his tragedy struck. With a family gone and the memories of sweet Christina shattered, the remaining Auditore son tried to pick up the pieces. For the longest time, he always felt the need to constantly look over his shoulder after one too many betrayals. He never realized it stopped when he was with Sofia.
Edward and Haytham thought their directions in life would lead them to better futures, but it felt so alone in the end. At least there was the sense of bittersweet relief for Connor as he remade the Brotherhood.
Desmond felt a kinship with Lucy, but it be-grieved him to let her go. But it was for the greater good, right? All just to save the world?

Man seeks dominion over all that he encounters. I suppose it is a natural tendency for us to aspire towards mastery of our surroundings. But this should not include other human beings. Every day more and more are pressed into service – by deception or by force. Others, though not so firmly imprisoned, are made to feel as if their lives are worthless. I have seen the ways in which men persecute women. Heard the cruel words hurled at those who come here from other lands. Watched as those who believe or act differently are made to suffer...
We discuss such things often – watching as we do from the spires of Masyaf. What can be done to stop this? To encourage tolerance and equality? Some days we speak of education, believing that knowledge will free us from immorality. But as I walk the streets and see slaves sent off to auction – my heart grows cold. When I see the husband hurl abuses and stones at his wife, insisting she exists only to serve him – my fists clench. And when I see children torn from their parents so that another man might profit – sent off to suffer beneath the desert sun and die...
...On these days, I do not think that dialogue will make a difference. On these days, I can think only of how the perpetrators need to die.
-Codex of Altair Ibn-La’Ahad, Assassin’s Creed II (2009)
