I read your rules and I was wondering if I could request headcanons for Kyoka, Hikaru, Kaoru, Tamaki and Mori’s type?

Like what kind of person they’d fall for or what traits do they find important?

Title: Ideal Types

Genre: mostly fluffy and slightly romantic (it is ideal types after all wink wink)

Pairing: Kyoya Ootori/Hikaru Hitachiin/Kaoru Hitachiin/Tamaki Suoh/Takashi Morinozuka x GN!Reader

Notes: So, I’m going to assume you meant to type Kyoya instead of Kyoka (i thought of Kyoka Jiro brom BNHA), to make that clear beforehand! Also thanks for the compliment! I’m glad you enjoy what I write, it makes me happy seeing that people enjoy it.

Otherwise, this sounded kinda fun! I will say, though, that this will be based on how I see the characters and how they are written. I haven’t read enough of the manga to get a super in depth grasp of their extreme inner selves (if you know what I mean), but I have finished the anime a multitude of times - I think I can get it pretty good, due to that.

shy.

this man loves shy people.

if not shy, then quiet.

but no matter-

if you’re shy, he can play up his princely role and be your knight in shining armor!

but you still gotta give him a run for his money

(not literally, of course - he’d be willing to drop thousands for you if you even so much as glanced at something you wanted)

if you aren’t willing to push through his stuff, he won’t want to be with you

he wants support, no disregarding it

he doesn’t get much from the people he lives with, so if his significant other isn’t going to support him, expect to be dropped

otherwise, please support this boy.

that, and if his grandma doesn’t love you, expect to be kept a secret

if his dad loves you, though, then you’ve got a new father figure along with a boyfriend

intelligence isn’t necessary, but common sense might be

especially if you’re a commoner

with the way he can be, he needs someone to tie him down a bit

someone that understands how things work

(i’m really just putting this out there now, but every person here loved something about haruhi that would be universal no matter if it was or wasn’t haruhi)

it definitely helps if you can open him up to a new culture, too

he is a curious person, so i don’t doubt that he’d love to hear about any customs that my differ from his

especially if you have a certain religion or ethnicity

speaking if which, i do think that he would try to adjust his mannerisms to adjust to you and your family’s mannerisms

he (surprisingly) doesn’t come off as a player, so i do think that the way he handles himself reflects his ideal plan

whatever happens in the future does, but he wants to marry you.

he truly does.

i also don’t think he would care too much about gender (after a bit)

he means well, really

but he may be a little rough with pronouns and preferences in the beginning

so patience is also key here :)

that also applies to kids and family members that he may so happen to meet

very friendly to them, and very sweet in general

the way that you would react around children would probably be a very important thing, too

he didn’t see his mother for the most formative years in his life and had never truly felt comforted even though his dad tried his damnedest to be there for him

but you?

if you have a little niece that you see every so often and he sees her, guess what?

he’s gonna be all over her

but you?

you would probably have to handle the chi;ld with care

same thing applies to siblings, adoptive or not

younger than you?

perfect, if you end up taking them out to lunch because your parent(s)/legel guardian(s) weren’t able to hang out with you that day, tamaki will be f a w n i n g

seriously

it brings him comfort and makes him more comfortable in his choice

and he also just solidified his love for you

he will be proposing to you as soon as the time for the moment comes

that is a fact, and one that you can’t deny

and one more thing: adventurous

it’s another thing that he finds intriguing

especially if you love hiking

he will pay for the tickets to go hiking on a trail in the US

or to visit a forest in Korea or China

let’s also not forget the many places he could take you to see in France

seriously, he would love it

and he may try to profit off it for the host club

(in those cases, expect kyoya to run the show since you will probably have to drag him away for a few to get some alone time with him)

and when it comes to arguments and discrepancies between the two of you, please listen

you don’t have to agree, which he will be forever a drama queen about, but please

let him get his side off, and tell him what went wrong

articulate what is going on what problem came up, and work with him to find the middle ground and be happy for the night

i also find that he would be one to give you a good night kiss even if you got into it earlier in the night

so, in conclusion, act like haruhi

Kyoya Ootori

debate

if you can debate with him, you’ve got him

especially if you can debate with him on certain topics

that, in theory, shows your understanding of complex ideas

which presents your intelligence to him

he finds intelligence attractive

that and if you can keep a cool head

he has to constantly handle big situation after big situation due to tamaki and the club’s antics, so a level head would be much appreciated.

there’s a small portion of me that just knows

k n o w s

that if you didn’t even get along with tamaki in the slightest, you’d likely be ignored

like, if you find him annoying, that’s fine

kyoya can find him annoying, too

but if you absolutely hate his guts, you are likely not going to go along too well with him

the two of them are an unconventional team so to tear them apart is to topple the japanese high school equivalent of royalty

that would drive him up a wall, but i can imagine that since they are a team

that you would be dragged into club activities whether or not you are a member

otherwise, please talk with him

kyoya, though driven, is also extremely unaware of his health (in a way that he ignores it)

so he needs someone to pull him back and get him to realize his worth outside of grades and gaining his father’s approval

seriously

bring him down and get him to take a break sometimes.

(bonus points if you can get him to sleep before 5 am!)

one more thing, too:

his family.

get along with his siblings, especially his sister

she has been one of the few people to actually stay with him and respect him

so she is the key here

if she likes you, you know that you have managed to catch his attention

in all honesty, too

your appearance isn’t gonna matter much to him, as long as you can make yourself look presentable when the time calls

i will warn you though

he isn’t the best with emotions, so he may be tempted to buy copious amounts of gifts to compensate for hi slack of understanding

which could lead to arguments

debates are normal, those are safe

but arguments with his might get a little bit...on the threatening side?

idk how to phrase it, really

but i highly doubt that he is gonna fall back, especially if you cave first

he isn’t the most emotionally unintelligent, really

he’s just a little self-focused

which is why an ability to stand ground would be good here

he’s not gonna be like tamaki and refuse to go to bed angry, no

he’d probably let it stew overnight and then fix it the next day (if it’s petty enough)

but no matter

just state your point, allow him to state his, and discuss

level-headed, concise, and understanding are the keys here

especially in a fight

(or go to his sister)

(she could tear into him)

(and it may get a laugh out of him depending on the situation)

(just play your cards well)

anyways, carry your head well is the gist here

intelligence is what will catch him, but your personality is what will catch him next

again, he isn’t picky, more so just self-focused

so be calm and patient, and be willing to see the lines and read between them if needed

(that happens to be his toxic trait, but whatever-)

(and no, if any questions are to come up, he will not be capable of doing what his evil twin did in episode 8)

Takashi “Mori” Morinozuka

i’m gonna say it

mans is most definitely a tough read

like really

but there is one thing that i just k n o w he loves

he loves to be the protector

really, just looking at the way that he approaches situations with honey and haruhi proves this

even the rest of the club at times, in all honesty

so he’d like someone he can protect

(not at all times, tho)

(he is well aware of the lengths you’d go to in order to make sure that you walk out of a situation in pristine condition)

but still-

at least just let him help you

his love language is very obviously acts of service, so anyone that is willing to allow him to do so would be great

now we get to honey-senpai

ik it’s a common thread amongst everyone here, but this (next to the twins) would be the most prominent

honey’s judgement hasn’t often been wrong

and he’s really welcoming, so if you tip off honey’s radar imagine yourself cut from the list in general

seriously

you absolutely, positively, truly have to get along with mori’s precious cousin

(and do note, kissing ass gets you nowhere in this scenario)

that, and if you get along with kids in general

i see him as the kind of guy that would really like kids, despite the fact that some can get super scared of him

he’s really a sweet guy, so he needs someone sweet with him

like, if you have a younger sibling or extended family member that is like

a toddler, let’s say

and you can play with them and make them happy, even generally caring for them

yeah, that will make him happy

really happy

i also seem his as the type to like someone a little more...quiet

not like a bookworm (strictly, at least)

but like, someone that is more introverted

and can also hold their own in classes

not genius level, but hopefully you get the gist

if you could hold a joke and have a sense of humor, too

think a personality type similar to the “girl-next-door” archetype without the amount of modernized twists and gender specification

speaking of modernization

i feel like he’d like someone who’s a little more traditional

not like “stay at home and do [blank]” traditional, though

like...

values family traditions kind

really, dude’s a family man and he makes it very evident

i also think he would re4ally like someone who can knock people down a few pegs when the time calls for it

physically or verbally, doesn’t matter to him

a little fire is always nice

anyways-

when it comes to arguments, expect him to be patient

he will get mad at times, and that’s understandable

but he’s another one that doesn’t want to go to bed angry

he really wants to get to the root of the problem before it can get any worse, but if it means settling for the night and sleeping on opposite sides of the bed, well

that’s fine with him

he really just wants someone to discuss the issue with

that is, opposed to someone who wants to fuel the flames and create more problems

so please, someone open-minded and willing to listen would be great

i also feel like he’d like someone who would really like hugs, i mean look at him-

all in all, though, yeah-

to be reasonable and understanding

while also being carefree and gentle?

he really just wants to hold you close to him

(and he wants to please you and treat you like royalty, but hey-)

but he wouldalso really respect someone who sees him as more than honey-senpai’s carrier or that one hot guy that won’t talk

really, someone that can treat him like a person

Hikaru Hitachiin

so there might be a theme between the twins

that being the fact that they would like someone that can have fun and focus on the good side of life

and that rings true for hikaru, really

but unlike kaoru, he isn’t going to be the type to ignore that at most times

(particularly upon first meeting)

if you can take a joke, that’s makes you attractive

if you can tag along with the twins’ pranks?

even more so

(again, particularly to hikaru)

willing to clown anyone else just because you want to?

yep, check that off the list as well

really if you can let loose, he will be drawn to you for it

otherwise, though, what he wants isn’t going to be the most ideal for him

it may take kaoru to point it out, possibly even mori or honey, but he needs someone to bring him down

he can get a little egotistical when something continually goes his way

but when that is immediately dashed, he gets mad

not really violent, rather passive-aggressive and insulting

he knows, when willing to acknowledge it especially, that he needs someone to calm him

call him out on what he’s done, tell him that it isn’t right.

remind him that the way that he is acting is only going to cause more harm than good

help him acknowledge where he needs help

help him develop himself and himself alone

help him come to terms with others, too

really, he needs someone that can take a joke, make a joke, and knows when to avoid joking altogether

(that may seem like a stretch to him, though)

another stipulation:

you HAVE TO get along with kaoru

HAVE TO.

there is no debate here, really

i remind you of being able to aid him in pranking others with him and kaoru

but that also means that he has to trust you enough to tell you anything about him

only kaoru and a select few others know how he really feels, and how he really processes everything, and how he really grew up and the feelings that came with it

so he also HAS TO trust you

and kaoru respecting you and liking you is the first step

in regards to appearance, though, i do feel like he would be a little more particular to it

he would budge, it believe that all of the host club members definitely have their moments but mean well

but i also do think that your appearance may be the first thing to grab his attention

i’m thinking he’d be drawn more to people that look similar to the models that his mom uses in fashion ad campaigns

to be specific, those from active wear ads

i don’t know why, but i feel like he’d like someone who looks like they take care of themself

but really, while that may be what draws his attention, it would come down to your personality

(i really felt the need to place this here especially)

(no clue why but i just get the feeling that the twins would be way more judgemental from the get-go)

to make it clear, though, he may get picky and a little nasty, but he means well

which makes it even weirder when it comes to arguments

there will be days where he will die on his hill of choice

he’ll refuse to listen, refuse to acknowledge you even

possibly even go to kaoru and proceed to make a fool of you without telling him the whole truth

(only for kaoru to pull him back)

he would be likely to do what kyoya might here

going to bed angry would definitely be something that he may do, but i also feel that he’d have enough awareness to settle it just a little bit

which leads to the other side

he can also be very gentle about it

(i have to draw another parallel to tamaki here)

this side is one in which he would be likely to at the very least ease thing sdown enough to sleep in the same bed

i see him as the type of hold you close to him, cheek to chest

so i find that he would be sleeping in the same bed, but on the complete other side and his back facing you

settled just enough to calm the situation

only then would he be willing to settle the situation the next morning

but in general, he isn’t going to pay much attention to you if you don’t have a sense of humor

really, he just wants to relax with someone that can make him feel safe and comfortable

someone that can bring out the best in him and give him space when needed

as well as help him become the best version of himself without it being strictly ‘hikaru and kaoru’

Kaoru Hitachiin

gonna say it again, definitely think kaoru would go for someone with a sense of humor

but he’d also want them to draw the line when necessary

and not be solely focused on humor and pranks

it’s all fair, really, but he already sees enough of the shallow image that he and his brother put on for the attendees of the club

so to only put your attention onto that would definitely make him

well...

kinda hate you

he is definitely more emotionally aware than hikaru is, so he’d be the one to step back and see you for more

your humor would be the signal

your personality would be the habit

and your reactions to him would solidify his interest in you

to be patient is to grab his attention

and intelligent

unlike hikaru, i imagine that he would be more interested in things that are the complete opposite of what he puts on for show

he doesn’t care about how other girls react to him and only that, he’d also care about appreciation for his achievements

which is also what he would seek in a partner

someone who can appreciate him, as well as appreciate themselves

that also applies to grades

he finds someone smart to be attractive

but that is still only something small

he would definitely be the one to pay less attention to physical appearance, too

he would still be picky

(sadly)

but he would also be quicker to ignore that and put more of his focus onto your mind, reactions, and the tiny little things that you do in your everyday life

but i do find that he would focus on your appearance in a different manner

like, appreciating the little acne scars and moles on your face

if you have a port-wine stain, too

that would intrigue him

even something as simple as a little mark that looks similar to one would draw his attention

that and any modifications and stuff like your eyebrows

i also feel that he’d be drawn to someone who is a bit thicker

like, muscular, heavier, has a build to suit that, etc.

stuff like that

really just any body that has a bit more space on it

and i do think he would really like body modifications

idk why i just..do

he seems like he’d like a slight divide in appearance in general, honestly

otherwise he is most definitely going to pay attention to how you help others

as much as he loves hikaru, the way he handles things (as well as a majority of the host club too, tbh) is really not great

not great in the slightest

handling things with utmost patience but also trying to take into account the person you’re helping just...

it leaves him flustered.

in arguments, too, that would be important

he can have a bit of a fiery temper at times, so to have someone that can bring him down would be great

he’d also appreciate it if his partner would be the type to tackle the issue before it gets out of hand

like, he wouldn’t want to go to bed angry but he wouldn’t be above it

(at least for one night)

he wants to rest with you, he wants to cuddle you in bed and give you a goodnight kiss on the cheek

he wants to be gentle and sweet with you

but again, he and hikaru do have some similarities that aren’t too great in hindsight

so to combat that, someone that can handle things like these in a composed manner would be great

seriously

kaoru really wants to spoon with you and sleep well and wake up to your sleepy eyes in the morning, so please-

no, really tho

he wants someone that can separate him from his brother and treat him as his own person

someone he can trust with his worst secrets and most awful insecurities and worries

someone who can treat him like a king but also knows when to get him to step down and draw the line

someone that can carry themself with a good sense of humor but a well-rounded sense of when to cut the crap

castle vees idea :)) -e

off anon to submit a long block o' text and yes i am the OCvees submitter from wayyy back too if you remember that (i have a lot of eevee ideas)

okay so!!

its sort of medieval but not, because its supposed to be that the eeveelutions have divided into kingdoms with different power structures and they all hate each other ofc, and each kingdom demands you turn into the e-lution (Ex: all umbre-doms must become umbreons or else they are Thrown To The Dungeons for being 'traitors').

the main character is an eevee named Ordi who hails from the Umbreon Kingdom. Ordi (12yo he/they AroAce) is very stoic/bland/serious and follows the kingdom's rules to the T (like a loser). He has a best friend named Jewel, whose outgoing and not afraid to voice her opinions, and he has an older bro (18) named Blanche, who is an umbre that dyed his fur white and his rings blue because he's Edgy and Unique and a Rebel who hates the umbre kingdom

the theoretical comic would start with Ordi in class learning all of this stuff, then the kids who've evolved into umbreons pick on him for not being an umbre yet (11-12yo is the typical evolve age). Ordi ignores them and goes home. at home he talks to his parents (stern government official mom and bored nerd dad, both sort of distant parents but still loving towards their kids, just not obviously) abt not evolving, since his bro Blanche evolved when he was just 9, to which they reassure him that his dad was a late bloomer and evolved at 17 (note: eevees who dont evolve by 18 are sent to facilities to force them to evolve or exile them). Ordi feels slightly better

Ordi runs into his brother as he's applying his blue rings (sorta like stickers over the normal rings? or contacts?) and they banter, Ordi kinda hates him in that "why is he so rebellious ugh!!!" he cant understand why his brother wants to look so flashy. their mom does have red ring contacts and plenty of other umbres have ring contacts too, but its kinda frowned upon to dye ur fur another color cause the black color is kinda a symbol of the umbreons.

anyway Ordi sees his bro sneak out and is partially just curious and partially worried he's doing something against the umbreon code. welp, Ordi is proven right as he follows his bro to the border (to which Ordi is worried about a Vaporeon attack since they border the Vapors, NOT the Flareons which is a trauma thing for the mom's backstory thats not important rn also Blanche's father might secretly be a Flare oop-). there, he sees his brother meet with an Espeon. NOT JUST ANY ESPEON. this Espeon is green. and not just dyed fur!!! she's shiny.

this is the Princess of the Espeons.

Princess Beauty.

Ordi is horrified to realize his brother is meeting with and DATING (and totally conspiring with!!!!) the heir to their mortal enemies' thrown. so ofc he confronts his brother and they get in a screaming match where Blanche tells him not to be a sheep and that he loves Beauty and nothing can keep them apart and Ordi is like "im gonna tell mom!!" Blanche is obvs like "no dont!!!" and Beauty sits there like "uh, im just gonna go-"

so somehow Blanche convinces Ordi NOT to tell mom or dad, and they head home all angy. they sleep and the next day occurs, Ordi goes to school, blah blah, exposition with bullies (the lead bullies are twins who also evolved young BTW. i forget their names or if i even gave them, but one's a guy, one's a girl and they come from a typically rich kid high pressure family). so the typical bullies pick on Ordi and call him an "ever 'vee" but Jewel defends him and gives the bullies a good ol' punch. a Middle School Playground fight ensues and Jewel starts evolving from the exp gained!

but Uh Oh it's morning, and exp gain + friendship (with Ordi) + sunlight = Espeon. so Jewel evolves into an Espeon which is a big No No and she gets taken to Jail. Ordi is shocked and horrified and wants to save his friend. he goes home and his parents sadly tell him this is the way, and his dad says he just has to stay quiet and obedient and do as he's told like always. his mom grimly (hesitantly?) agrees.

Ordi can't accept that his best friend is just gone forever now, possibly in harm's way, because she evolved into something she didnt even mean to!! so he HAS to save her, and, bitterly, he turns to his big bro and asks if his Espeon gf can help save Jewel. Blanche agrees and is like "see how corrupt the system is!" but Ordi wont admit so and says its just one mistake. so Ordi and Blanche go to meet Princess Beauty, who, of course agrees to help them, and Ordi thinks its just cause Beauty wants to save a fellow Espeon and have insight into Umbreon life via Jewel, but Beauty explains its because she believes all the kingdoms should learn to love each other, and that they need to live together in harmony, and that everyone should evolve into what they want. Ordi thinks thats BS but Blanche believes in it whole-heartedly with a side of pessimism like "but like that'll ever happen, all the kingdoms are rotten."

anyway, Beauty says she knows a 'vee who can help them, and that Ordi just needs to find out where Beauty is being held. so Ordi goes home and asks his mom (government official) and she tells him after a bit, and Ordi reports to Beauty. then, at night, Beauty sends a Vaporeon named Dewdrop (they/them) to do the rescue, which shocks Ordi because how the hell does an Espeon know a Vaporeon??? (then it starts to make sense cause duh, Beauty is meeting Blanche at the Vaporeon-Umbreon border, how ELSE would she be there? ...further more, why isnt she at her kindom's royal castle??)

so Dew uses the river to get to the side of the Jail with Ordi (Ordi is not happy abt the swimming and water and makes sure to extra hate it bcus eevees arent supposed to learn to swim until after they evolve in fear they become Vapors). Ordi is also unnerved because Dew doesn't say a single word at all to him, and they look super emotionless and kinda scary (which makes Ordi suspect/fear that Dew wants to kidnap them). Dew uses waterbeam or whatever to try and break a hole/wear down the water, and they do manage to get in!!! Ordi sees Jewel locked up (along with other evolved vees and even a few umbreons, all of which he thinks poorly of tho he does realize the hypocriticalness of his throughts). he tells Jewel he's gonna get her out of there but she's telling him to run, now, and he's like why??

and, predictably, there's an Umbreon police team there and they see Ordi and chase him. Dew takes Ordi and runs and Ordi screams and is like "no!! not without Jewel!" but Jewel uses a new Espeon move of hers (idk which) to knock Ordi away, and he and Dew barely manage to escape into the depths of the river and into the heart of Vapor territory...

or so Ordi thinks. once they surface and stay surfaced, Ordi screams at Dew to take him back and that they cant kidnap him, but Dew just shakes his head and starts walking. with no choice, Ordi follows him and they go to some strange... tunnel, bunker of sorts, that leads to a giant shelter. Beauty is there, and Ordi isnt sure if he's relieved or nervous to see her, but she greets him and questions where Jewel is and Ordi snaps that it failed. Beauty says that now that the guards know their face, they will be after them, and that Ordi cannot go home. Ordi is horrified and denies it and basically throws a temper tantrum, kicking and screaming and yelling (and crying), but then a Sylveon appears and Ordi is shocked into silence because a Sylveon??

everyone knows that Sylveons live like nuns in the mountains, far away from the war, living in bliss and peace and whatever lies they tell themselves. ALL kingdoms hate Sylveons because Sylveons think they're so noble and great being all 'peaceful' and wistful, but that they're naive and think that all kingdoms should just love each other like its a fairy tale.

this Sylveon is named Pixie and she is very hyper. so hyper that she shocks Ordi into silence because he just wasnt expecting it. she welcomes him to the Ever Vee resistance and that he'll love it here and isn't he Blanche's little bro??? aww how cute she can see the family resemblance!! Ordi questions what the heck she's talking about and Pixie lays out some plot stuff, saying that she's the leader of this Ever Vee base, where survivors of the wars and rebels and, well, ever vees can live together. Ordi is stunned, cause he thought that, aside from an insult, Ever Vees were just a group of outcasted unevolved eevees, not a.. rebellion group? Pixie just chuckles and says surprise! and welcomes him once more and says he can room with the other kids since they dont have space! then she just Leaves (giving Beauty a flirty goodbye).

Ordi has shutdown by this point and allows Dew to lead him to his room, where he meets a small, scared Jolteon who has bandages all over one side of her face and eye and is missing an ear. she doesnt say anything, just stares in fear, but then the other girl, a very loud and equally energetic as Pixie Glaceon greets Ordi (the Jolteon also flinches at her volume). Dew leaves them, and when the Glaceon introduces herself as Autumn ("but you can just call me Autie!") and the Jolteon as Jolty ("because we have no idea what her name is cause she wont tell us- well she doesnt say much anyway! more than Dew tho, they never ever talk ever!!") and then asks Ordi for his name and backstory, but Ordi just snaps at her to shut up and that he's had a difficult day. he storms to his bed and crawls in and puts the blankets over his head. he thinks Autie is quiet for once but then hears her whispering very loudly to Jolty about what weedle stung him or some other poke-metaphor for Cranky

the next day, Autie loudly walks Ordi up and he begrudgingly follows her (and she talks the entire way about how she's gonna be the greatest Glaceon warrior one day) and Jolty as they lead him to get breakfast. there, they meet the rest of the cast. the first is Vine the Leafeon, who is Autie's older brother. Vine is reprimanding Autie for being so obnoxious. then walks in Inferno the Flareon, who sneers at the newcomer and complains about having more dumb little kids in the building. Vine tells him that theirs more adults than kids and Ferno tells him to shut up, to which Vine does. Ferno demands Vine get him something to eat and Vine does and Autie glares at Ferno and says he doesnt like him and Ferno says the feelings mutual brat. Autie sticks her tongue out and then, of course, being a rational and mature 17 nearing 18yo, Ferno lits up a fireball at her, a 13yo child. (note: Jolty is also terrified and shaking and clinging to Ordi during this, which he hates/is confused by)

thankfully, another Flareon interrupts, with Dew at her side. this Flareon has a scar down her face, and glares firmly at Ferno and reprimands him. Ferno grumbles and says "Sorry aunt Smolder" and angrily walks away to Vine, who just came back and is oblivious to Ferno attempting to lit his sis on fire. Ferno roughly drags him along with him, even tho Vine wanted to eat with his sis. anyway, the adult, wartorn Flareon introduces herself as former General of the Flareons, Smolder. Ordi tenses, knowing how awful the Flareons are. As Ferno just proved, they are angry, blood-thirsty, aggressive, and vicious monsters who take no prisoners, merely kill for the fun of it. after all, that's why his mom moved away from the Flareon border ('isn't it?' he wonders).

but Autie happily greets and hugs Smolder, calling her mama Smolder. Smolder chuckles and says hello to you to, patting the energetic girl's back. Ordi questions if she's really her mom, but Smolder says no, Autie just enjoys calling her that. Smolder says that Pixie may be the leader, but she's the one in charge of the care for all 'vees in this base, the little ones especially. Ordi feels surprisingly calm with Smolder, but Jolty is still clinging to him and staring at Smolder like she murdered Jolty's family, so he's hesitant to truly trust Smolder or Dew or anyone else for that matter.

anyway, they eat, or whatever, yada yada. there's some yucky "flirting" between Vine and Ferno where it clearly establishes that Ferno is abusive/toxic towards Vine and just using him and Vine is spineless/desperate and stays with him regardless. also establish that Dew is mute and never speaks. some (reluctant on Ore's part)) Autie, Ordi, and Jolty bonding as quick friends. later, Smolder tells Ordi that his brother is here to see him and Ordi mad dashes to his bro.

he is upset to see Beauty with Blanche, but then demands that both of them take him home. Blanche says they cant, that he will be arrested on sight, that even mom and dad know now. Beauty says he's safest here and Ordi argues with them, but, ya know, eventually Ordi realizes that if he goes back he will be treated as though he had evolved into an Espeon, and that he truly is a traitor and then he has some Feelings about that and shuts down once more.

Beauty says she's gonna go talk to Pixie and gives Blanche a quick goodbye peak, then Blanche and Ordi make their way to (somewhere idk, lunch?), where Blanche tries to comfort Ordi that everything will be okay, that he knows its scary but that he'll be safe here and they'll still try to rescue Jewel, but Ordi doesn't respond at all and Blanche gets worried. but they're interrupted when Vine walks out of a room with a bruise on his cheek, to which Blanche is like "woah! Vine, right? are you okay?" and Vine is like "uh, yeah, uhm, its cool, I, uh," and stutters into oblivion when Blanche offers to get a berry to heal him. luckily, Autie saves Vine from his gay malfunction by squealing and hugging her bro happily. she then gets super interested in Blanche because he's "white and blue like a Glaceon!!!"

as Autie pesters him and inspects him, Vine tells Autumn to stop bothering him, to which Blanche questions why she has a Leafeon name when she's a Glaceon. Vine explains that they were from a Leafeon family, but that Autie had been obsessed with being a Glaceon since she was young. Ordi questions in disgust why a vee would ever want to not be what their kingdom was (doesnt she have any pride?) to which Autie exclaims that Glaceons are the coolest ever and who wouldnt wanna be one!!!! Vine explains further, saying that Glaceons rescued them when they were young and had gotten caught in an avalanche. Ordi is shocked and questions why Glaceons would save Leafeons when everyone knows they hate each other as much as Umbreons and Espeons do. Blanche starts saying that its ridiculous propaganda and that vees of any kingdom can get along but Vine interrupts to say "then they destroyed our entire village and left us orphaned."

there's a beat of silence and Blanche just goes "what?"

Vine goes into Backstory Mode and explains that the Glaceons that saved them were soldiers awaiting orders. they saved Autie and him for whatever reason, and were truly kinda nice to them, but that they were still young. Autie and Vine were too young to realize that Glaceons being in Leafeon turf was suspicious and didnt realize they were stationed there, awaiting orders... to destroy their town and capture the icy area that the Leafeons had stolen from them previously. Autie and Vine escaped when the Glaceon that had previously saved them recognized them and gave them mercy. Vine took Autie and ran way, but, Autie could not understand what had happened and idolized the Glaceons still, and, of course, evolved into one. now that she had done so, Vine knew they couldn't go to a Leafeon village, so instead he searched for the Ever Vees until he found Pixie.

And then Autie finishes it with "And now I'm gonna be the bestest Glaceon soldier ever and become their General just like Smolder was!!"

anyway not sure exactly what happens after that, but, basically, Ordi angsts some more but finds himself reluctantly becoming friends with Autie and Jolty, eventually he becomes good enough friends with Jolty that she quietly admits to him her real name is Emma, and also that her family and home was burned to the ground by Flareons. Ordi also becomes closer to Smolder and Dew, as they are both kinda parental figures and mentors to him. Smolder would admit to Ordi that her children were killed by the war and thats why she left despite being a General who had killed so many mercilessly; she could never imagine harming a child but hadnt stopped to realize that she had been killing many via orders to her troops. she forced Ferno to come with her per her brother's request, not that Ferno was happy about that as he still thinks Flareons are superior (and loves how afraid Jolty is of him).

there's some more Vine and Ferno being in a toxic relationship and Ferno being an a-hole to everyone always without remorse. he actually injuries Autie once and that makes Vine snap at him, but then Ferno smacks him and says he cant yell at him like that because he's just a stupid Leafeon who'd be nothing without him (yikes). Blanche comes to Vine's defense and Vine is blushy-blushy. Blanche and Vine become good friends.

there would be some cuts in the comic to Ordi's parents. his mom is super worried (dad is too, but the focus is on the mom), as she thinks about her past and, shocker, it's revealed she had fallen in love with a Flareon, but when she got preggo with his kid, he wanted her to join the Flareon's side, that the kid had to be a Flareon, it was in its blood, but she refused and the Flareon got angry and he and his buddies burned down her neighborhood (no deaths tho). she ran away where she met Ordi's father, who was kind and understanding and boring and they pretending Blanche was his instead of the Flareon's and no one was the wiser.

there's also cuts to Jewel, who plots her escape. when she goes to face a judge for her 'sins', which she thinks is totally stupid cause she'll be imprisoned forever anyway. but then, to her surprise, they say they have a special mission for her, that she can be a spy... at first she denies, but then... shocker!!! her former school bully (purple rings, female twin) appears when she's moping about her decision in a jail cell and the former bully says that she arranged for this by convincing her dad to do so, so that Jewel could have a chance at life! Jewel is shocked and questions why she'd do that and the bully (damn i need a name for her and her bro... Nora and Aron, there) gets a slight blush but says that she admired Jewel for being so strong and defending her friend like that... Jewel questions why she's a bully and Nora is like "i dont know! ...cause my brother is? ...everyone expects me to be perfect cause i evolved early and my dad's rich but i... i dont even know if i wanted to be an umbreon in the first place..." Jewel is shocked, but ends up accepting being a spy per Nora's request.

so anyway, there's some implied romance between Smolder and Dew too. nobody knows Dew backstory but Smolder, who teases them over it sometimes, but only kindly. Dew never says anything, even to Smolder, but they're close anyway (and sign language exists, ya know, although Dew still doesn't use it often). they are the eldest adults at the facility, as its actually kinda just the cast plus a few people who come in and out. even Pixie is younger than them. Smolder has a distrust in overly happy Pixie, who is supposed to be their caretaker, but is never really there when it matters, leaving the responsibility to Smolder.

Ordi also still wants to rescue his bff Jewel, as he doesnt know she's out of jail, and obviously Autie is super eager to stage a rescue, and Jolty is horrified but will follow them anywhere regardless. so, sneaking past their older bros, they leave and attack to sneak into jail again. honestly not sure what happens (Ordi nearly evolves tho? into an umbreon but he doesnt), but it fails, and then Pixie has to rescue them or something. Pixie is unusually cold as she acts like an adult for once and scolds them and says they have to ask her for permission first before they stage pointless rescue missions! when they return, Pixie takes Ordi aside and presents him with an everstone, which immediately horrifies Ordi and he attempts to run away but the door is locked.

Pixie tells Ordi that evolving is a curse and doesnt he want to be free of it? he can be a true Ever Vee then, and he can know everything he wants to. Ordi denies it and tries the door again, it opens, and he slams into Beauty. he hides behind her and tells her what Pixie tried to do, and Beauty is like "what? ...Pixie would never, are you insane? she wants everyone to have the freedom to evolve. i think you're just worn out after your adventure today, why dont you go back to bed?" and Ordi is shocked Beauty doesnt believe him but leaves. Beauty then turns to Pixie like "really?" to which Pixie is like "whaaaat? we need more eevees! not eeveelutions!" Beauty just sighs and says she can't just scare her boyfriend's lil bro like that, or else what will Blanche do if he found out? Pixie gets pouty and is like "your boyfriend??? excuse me. what am i chopped liver?" Beauty laughs and they kiss. (gaslight, girlboss, gatekeep)

anyway, i dunno how the rest goes exactly but its sort of like: we cut to Jewel spying (and Nora being blushy around her when Jewel relays info to her. Aron is still a whiny brat bully to her tho), and she learns stuff about the Espeons who have taken her in. they love their royal family a lot, and Beauty shows up at events to just kinda be paraded around. Espeons, to Jewel's disgust, pride themselves on being pretty (cause stereotypes), and dont have a super strict structure. they hate Umbreons and other 'lutions, but they're kinda lame in Jewel's opinion, because she's always prided herself on her strength, but they think she's weird for focusing on fighting and stuff. anyway, somehow Jewel would get close to the royal fam enough to follow Beauty, and wonders where she's going. she finds out Beauty is going to meet the Sylveons and Jewel finds out that the Sylveons don't just want 'world peace', they want everyone to be 'ever vees' so that they cant be 'cursed into eeveelution unless its pure like a Sylveon, who evolves from affection and love.'

so somehow Jewel and Nora would get into contact with Blanche (cause Jewel is worried about Ordi) and they'd go meet Ordi+ and Ordi and Jewel would have a tearful reunion (and Ordi would question why Nora was there but Jewel would defend her), but then Beauty would recognize Jewel and be like "wait a minute-" and there would be tension and then it'd be revealed what Beauty and Pixie's plans are (that the whole shelter for outcasts and orphans is kinda a lie. its complicated). Beauty and Pixie reveal their backstory, that they used to be BFFs from a young age (both born into the Espeon kingdom; typical Beauty was the princess and Pixie her maid), but as they grew, Pixie loved Beauty so much she evolved into a Sylveon, which then meant Pixie was outcasted, and Beauty was forced through many trials to become an Espeon. Beauty became bitter while Pixie was forced to find the other Sylveons by herself. the Sylveons then kinda brainwashed Pixie into their ideology (not that Pixie realizes that), and Beauty went on to hate her own kind/family for tearing Pixie away from her.

Beauty ended up meeting Blanche by accident because Beauty kept running away from home. she enjoyed running away to meet him cause it made her feel rebellious and stuff, but then Pixie found her and Pixie told her her plans/ideas, and Beauty agreed and also immediately had to date Pixie, but, ugh, Blanche was still her boyfriend and they had to break up. but Pixie told her not to, that they could use him, because Blanche's mother had connections as an official and trusted government official. if they could gain her trust through Blanche, they could use her to upend the Umbreon government while Beauty worked on destroying the royal Espeon family. (to clarify Beauty and Pixie are both evil and bad people who manipulate others for their own selfish goals)

so Smolder steps up and defends the kids but to her surprise her nephew Ferno would defend them/join their side and say that he knew this whole thing was stupid (he's just siding with the more powerful side) and then, when Smolder prepares to fight her own nephew, Beauty and Pixie, Dew joins them. Smolder is shocked, but Dew just guiltily looks away, and then Smolder wont fight, but Blanche, in complete anger, does, and Jewel, Nora, and the other kiddos do too, but obvs Beauty and Pixie are higher level + more experienced (Dew does not fight them; Ferno does but get's K'O'd be Blanche) so Smolder joins and chases them off. Dew looks back apologetically and signs "im sorry"

Vine comforts Blanche for Beauty cheating on him and everything, yada yada aaaandd.... then i kinda dont have any more idea juice lol. Dew would eventually come back and redeem themself/explain themself!! and their backstory would be properly revealed >;3. ...honestly idk their backstory lmao. but yaeh, thats what i can remember of it

@justbeingedgy @weird-colombian-gurl You asked me to elaborate on the "Ches already has a kid" theory in the notes of that one mf analysis post (which I really liked, go check it out!!), so that's why I'm making this one, cuz notes are a bit too restricting for what I want to talk about!

Though next time think twice before asking me to talk about something I'm interested in, because you never know when you're gonna wake up lovecraftian horrors!! :DDD you'll see what i mean when you press read more :))

So, I'll say it right now - this post is largely inspired by the second story highlight of this Instagram user (sorry, I don't know their name, only that their Instagram handle is dee_girl_metalfamilyfan), it's in Russian though, so keep that in mind

Alright, so I'll break this theory into two parts: the first one will be all about Ches, and the second will be about his potential child (spoiler: you might've seen her!)

Without any further ado, let's get to the Ches part:

1. The creators said that they're gonna explore Ches' character in the second season. Obviously, it doesn't mean anything on it's own, but just wait.

Dima: Let's talk about the second season a little. Of course, the seconds season will show development of the old characters, as well as new ones. That's in short. As you see, Ches looks a bit different here.

Alina: Yeah, we'll show a bit more about Ches at the ages of 18 to 20. His past. We'll reveal a bit more about his complex character, as much as it's possible.

(The source of the translation) Also I think they also said at one point that adult Ches will get some character development too? But that's probably a given, considering that we wouldn't see his youth if it wouldn't have affected him in the present, flashbacks without any relevance to the overall story don't sound so good

2. Not sure about this one (we don't know how much in character it was) but I can't not mention it.

Alina: Actually there was this one fanfic that I really liked. I don’t remember what it was called, but it was about Ches having a daughter, which is a cool topic. It was relatively in character and truly interesting. It’s great when people focus not just on sexual relationships of the characters, but also try to look at their development. That was a really interesting one. That’s it.

3. This one's a pretty big one, in my opinion. So, this is what they said on ArtWave '19:

Dima: Ches also has flaws.

Alina: [to Dima] Don’t spoil stuff.

Dima: His flaw is that he's very... irresponsible, let’s say.

So, maybe, just maybe, Ches does have a child but he, you know... left them? As the Instagram highlight from the beginning say: "he might be irresponsible enough to leave his child, and he's probably irresponsible enough not to use any contraception" (rephrased, not the exact quote)

4. Alright, so, the only mention of this one I can think of right now is the aforementioned Instagram highlight. The Metalfamilyfan says:

I contacted Korg/Корж, (admin of @ metal_yama [and I believe one of the organizers of the Metal Family Meetup in Moscow]) and she asked Alina on one of the meetups: "if Ches were to be a father, what kind of father would he be?"

And she said: "The kind of that would say "kid, look at that birdie over there!" an then he would run away"

Someone's words are not the perfect source, but they did tag Metal Yama and from what I know they didn't disagree with what the author of the page said. if anyone has anything to say about this (disprove or definitely prove what I said) feel free to do so in a reblog, notes, DMs, send me an anonymous ask, or in any other way you feel comfortable with

5. Ches has literally been through the same thing, and we know how important the theme of the cycle of abuse is in Metal Family (or, in this case, the cycle of neglect? Abandonment? Idk)

You managed to hide your PREGNANCY from me! AND you've been hiding the child from me for a whole year!

YES, because you would've insisted on aborting him!

AND NOW I'M INSISTING ON PUTTING HIM UP FOR ADOPTION! OR I'LL LEAVE RIGHT NOW!

6. Here we can see Ches with a blonde girl. Nothing too special, probably just a one time hook up. He doesn't seem to be interested in her, and she seems to be annoyed with him.

But wait...

What is this?

Like, it doesn't even matter if there's actually a punk/rock/whatever band named MOM or not, I just think it's pretty weird to put it in this particular drawing of Ches and this random woman who is implied to have slept with him. It's not integral to Ches' character as, for example, Korol i Shut is. It's just... there. For some reason.

Alright, now, finally let's get to the second part of the theory: who is, exactly, his child?

The short answer is, according to this theory, her:

First, let me list every single instance of her appearing in canon (and by canon I mean everything made by the creators. Even with this definition of canon it's not much, I promise): The screenshot you can see above on the left (it's a screenshot from the second season and it appeared here), an instagram story posted by Alina (above, right), and two drawing with a lot of characters where you can spot the girl which I'm gonna call her PinkHair or PH for short, I'll mention them later I feel like I should mention this, comparing the sources of the images and the dates when they were posted, it's safe to assume that the screenshot in the classroom has the latest and final version of her design. The red hair most likely doesn't mean anything

1. Alright. So. we've seen Dee and PinkHair in a classroom together, so they're most likely related in some way, or at least they know each other. Their exact relationship doesn't matter here, because all that matters here is that they're related story-wise

Let's look at the first image. This is the banner of the main Metal Family channel. Ches is near Heavy (they get along quite well and I'm sure Heavy aspires to be like Ches in many ways), Dee (we can see his classmates/friends near him, they're all about his age), and we can see people related to Glam on the left side of the image (including Ches!), and Vicky's - on the right side (notice how the hell sign is also there)

Now, I'm not absolutely sure about this one, but it's still kind of weird - look at the image on the right (it's from ArtWave 2021 btw) - wouldn't it make more sense to put PinkHair near Dee? Also, Curiously enough, not only is she not close to Dee on this image, but she's also standing next to Ches.

Though this whole thing could be explained by art theory (too many small things in one corner of your drawing isn't great composition wise lol sorry PH) but I still can't quite skip this point

2. Remember the "MOM" lady? Fun fact, she has the exact same pearl earring that PinkHair has on the screenshot.

3. I'll put all similarities with her supposed parents in this point: Mother: * She's also pretty uh.. glam? for the lack of a better word? Or feminine in a traditional sense, yeah I think that's a better way to put it. Like colors they prefer to wear for example, and jewelry. Characters like that aren't common in Metal Family * She's gotta be a blonde. I can't imagine her being anything but blonde. If she manages to maintain that hair color as a brunette I'm just straight up assuming her character arc is gonna be killing God because these kind of people are capable of anything. I fear them with every fiber of my being. * I can't say for sure because of the shading, but it seems like they both have gray eyes, and she also has darker skin compared to most MF characters. Though, it's likely that Mom just applied a lot of fake tan Ches: * We know that Ches for sure has darker skin * AND grey eyes * There's also some possible personality similarities but I'm not sure if you can compare a child to a parent they've never really known in this way

That's about it, I suppose, I hope there isn't that many grammar mistakes and logically unfinished parts and whatnot in this post I forgot to edit lol x) I'm not sure how to end this post other than to remind you guys that almost all the points in this posts are inspired by the "тупая теория" highlight on the dee_girl_metalfamilyfan's Instagram page, so go check them out and subscribe, they post Dee x The Quest Girl fanart and and always credit the artists. Hello! Here’s another collection of anon ask answers all put together in one big post.

This might be strange considering how upbeat yall are about the fandoms for your games in general, but is there any particular trope or ship you WOULDN'T want us writing/drawing/etc. in relation to your stuff? (IE, any canon you don't want us 'overwriting' or something like that?)

Of course we would want the fan content people make to not be racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, harmful, etc. But in terms of generally doing non-canon pairings or adding in headcanons or stuff, we really don’t mind that. People are welcome to have fun and explore their own ideas.

for the 1.2 Android update was it meant to download as a separate app? I really want to keep my previous save files but they don't show up (also thank u for the updates I'm really excited to get back into the game!!)

We had to change the name of the file and unfortunately for some phones that meant it’s treated as a brand new game. I’m sorry your saves didn’t transfer over to the new version. You can try to look up your specific phone and see if there’s a way to access save files for games on your device and then transfer those saves over to the new build manually. It may or may not be possible.

I'm having some trouble figuring out how to get the update from Itichio without losing my save files? Is it the same game or a folder I can put in the properties? Sorry if this question is not worded well or if this isn't the avenue you'd want to take technical questions on

Hey. I really loved playing our life. It was a fun experience and I never thought I would like it this much. I do have a question, I am currently replaying the game and I am choosing choices I never chose at first. In step 2 during the road trip arc, I decided to ask Cove about what he liked to see on people. One of his response was anklets and black eyes. My MC have just happens to have black eyes. Do Cove say black eyes cuz my mc have it or it was just a coincidently programmed into the game?

He uses your eye color intentionally! If you changed your eye color he’d change what he said.

Will step 4 have 10 moments like steps 1-3?

Step 4 is only an epilogue. It plays like the openings/endings of the earlier Steps where it’s a bunch of scenes all in a row, there aren’t any individual Moments.

In the new ol, there are two main love interests... Would it be possible to pair them together or is that weird?

You can’t stay single and pair them together. If we are going to add all the extra content to have a route where the two LIs get together, it’d be a full poly route where them and the MC were all dating. And that’s not a for sure option yet because it’d add a lot of extra complications. But either way, in OL the relationships all gotta be about the MC, haha.

In OL2, there will be extra LIs in form of DLCs? Like Dexter and Baxter.

Maybe! We’ll see how it goes.

Since Cove will have 2 diff body types in s4, will the storyline and dialogs reflect this? Or all of it will be the same? Btw love the game and sorry for bad english. Hope this doesn't sound rude 😅

Some descriptions and pieces of dialog will change, but it won’t impact the story really. And you don’t need to apologize! It’s all good.

Will you ever release the transparent sprites of the Our Life characters?

Probably not, I’m afraid. They’ve got a lot of pieces and it’d just be kind of hard to deal with, aha.

Something I was curious about, what was your inspiration for making a game with so much customization?

Initially, the idea was just about having a romance where you actually grew up with the LI. But it was pretty stressful to try deciding how fast the relationship would progress with it taking place over such a long period of time and with no real storyline carrying it. People might not wanna play a game where the characters don’t get along as kids, but other people might not bother with a game where kids immediately liked each other. So the obvious answer came, just let the player pick themselves how it goes. From there we simply continued to add more flexibly with the MC due to the same thought process of wanting to make sure people were onboard with how their life was going.

What made you decide to change the artstyle for ol 2 so much? I of course respect all your decisions and will buy the shit out of everything related to ol 2, but i love the original style and i m honestly not a fan of the styles shown on patreon, despite me liking the painterly style in general. (I don t mind the style being changed, just that the examples shown so far all feel like there s something wrong with them.)

We’ve always used different art styles for each of our projects. They all have distinct looks from each other. It’s just nice to do something new. I’m glad you really like how the first game looks, though. And those samples were only general concepts, rather than the exact options being decided between. We wanted to see reactions to different options. The art style we’re going with won’t be exactly like those, though I personally like all of them. I think players are gonna enjoy the style Our Life: Now & Forever when it’s revealed.

Hey! Is it ok to ask what gender ourlife2 protagonist will be and if we'll be given the same opportunity to customize an MC? Totally understand if you're keeping this under wraps for now if u don't wanna say!

OL2 will have the same type of MC customization as OL1, but even more refined! So their gender will be up to you.

Hi! I happened upon Our Life on Steam by pure chance. It is such a great game, I am super excited about the DLC, and I just want you all to know that you are awesome! :D I have a question, and I'm sorry if it's been asked before. Do you have plans of making more games similar to Our Life, with customizable player character? The customizable player character was probably the one thing I personally have been desperate for in romance VNs. So glad there finally is one and would love to see more.

Direct is blunter and more teasing, relaxed is lighthearted and goes with the flow.

Step 4 will have the Cove Wedding DLC and the Derek and Baxter romance DLCs each add a lot of new content to Step 4, though they’re also partially set in Step 2 and Step 3 respectively. The NSFW DLC happens in Cove’s room.

I keep wondering what would've happened if Mr. Holden met Lizzie first instead of the MC. I can't see that turning out well somehow lol.

It wouldn’t have made a difference. He met the MC’s parents first and they told him about their two kids. He wanted the MC specifically to be Cove’s friend because the two were the same age.

Even though we have a way to go I'm really excited for OL 2! I was curious though, is the next main character going to be adopted again? I thought it was really clever to make the first main character adopted so when players are customizing, they can make them look how ever they like without worrying about pesky genetics. Just wondering!

The OL2 MC is not adopted. We wanted to go for a new dynamic. Instead their parents are their biological single mother who is partially customizable and an off-screen sperm donor father. So the mom will look generally like the MC and any other traits not from her can be assumed to come from whoever the father was.

What kills me in fics is when you have tags going like "Good brother Jason", which, cool, but in the same story there's " Dick TRIES to be a Good Brother" LOL way to switch the dynamics. I also tend to stay clear of the ones where the centric character seems to have a platonic relationship tag with everyone (including the ones where they're antagonists in canon like Jason & Tim) except Dick. You can feel the hate/dislike/prejudice a MILE away.

Yeeeeeeah. You are definitely not alone. Like pretty much every Dick Grayson stan I’ve ever talked to on the subject stays the hell away from any fic tagged “Dick Grayson tries to be a good brother.”

LOL like....it’s basically what I was talking about in that older post I just reblogged a few minutes ago. That thing where Dick’s actions or choices in a canon story or fic aren’t judged on their own merits but are rather inherently weighed against some hypothetical perfect choice that he DIDNT make and so he’s basically evaluated based on how much he falls short of that mark each time instead of anything he actually did.

Sorry not sorry, but I’m just not interested in stories that TRANSFORM the character most commonly referred to as the emotional glue of the family and the only one who consistently even CARES about them all being a family....into the fumbling incompetent relationship disaster man who at best gets credit for at least putting in an attempt at being there for his family.

Especially not when Bruce and Jason and Tim are praised for doing the bare minimum in canon when it comes to family interactions while everything Dick ACTUALLY did is just completely ignored and overwritten in order to make his Failure to People Good the narrative obstacle to be overcome.

Now, the “Dick Grayson Tries To Be A Good Brother” tag applied to Tim-centric fics in particular tho....hoo boy I am out of there so fast there’s a Kool-Aid Man shaped hole in the wall and not a sign of me as far as the horizon.

Like, currently my Pet Peeve Thermostat is set to Battle for the Cowl-referencing fics that don’t use this tag but very much are in that spirit. You probably know the ones, like their summaries suggest they’re open to considering Dick’s side of the situation but turns out the author at most is throwing him a “well at least you tried not to suck” bone while still reading him the riot act for very much still sucking.

Because what drives me up a flipping WALL here in particular, when I naively click on a link that seems different from the usual and ignore the voice of experience because I’m just desperate enough for Tim and Dick food that doesn’t just go on and on about how Dick ruined their brotherhood and it will never be truly repaired....

What makes the fruit bats in my belfry go absolutely B-A-N-A-N-A-S is not just the super fun realization that Psych! You thought this fic might be different but it’s actually the same!

Nah.

It’s how much people, both writers AND commenters, just absolutely LOVE to reference Tim’s shitbag parents and how emotionally abusive and neglectful they were (all true and valid, btw, let’s be totally clear about that)....but bringing them up here specifically to emphasize just how great Dick’s ‘betrayal’ was and how what he did makes him no better than them.

It’s like. Oh. I see.

So because after twenty years worth of stories about Dick dropping everything the second Tim needs him, whether it’s for help or just advice or even just reassurance or comfort or ANYTHING ....because after two decades worth of content showing Dick absolutely doting on Tim in their EVERY SINGLE interaction and buttressing his self confidence at every opportunity, never passing up a chance to call him his brother and emphasize that they’re family and he loves Tim and is so proud of him...

Because after all that there’s a story whose very premise forced Dick to choose between two kids, both still very much his brothers and their shared father’s sons even if one was new to him and didn’t have the same history the other two had....

Because by the very nature of the story Dick had no choice but to prioritize one over the other due to them both hating each other and Dick already being stretched to his absolute limits trying to live his dead father’s life and take on everything Bruce used to do at the cost of giving up everything Dick had chosen for his own life and wants and priorities, all while dealing with his own grief....

And with it being inevitable that the boy he DIDNT choose to prioritize was going to be hurt....

Because after twenty years of never failing to put Tim first the second Tim needed him, never even putting HIMSELF first OVER Tim....because for the first time Dick felt that someone else he felt obligated to, felt a responsibility towards, actually needed him MORE than Tim....

And for that reason and that reason ONLY, Dick picked that other boy, all while trying his best to tell Tim that he still needed him, still valued him, all the things that Bruce DIDNT tell him when he took Robin not even because he thought someone else needed it at the time but simply to take away, with absolutely nothing Dick said in any way negating or contradicting any of his many, MANY assurances to Tim over the years that they were brothers and always would be and with them still very much legally brothers and with concrete ties to each other that declared them family even WITHOUT the connection of Robin....

Because after and despite ALL OF THAT, Dick picked the brother that he didn’t know and frankly didn’t even LIKE, because he knew no one else was going to pick this kid and he also knew he’d already picked Tim a hundred times before and hoped that at least all that HISTORY of past focus and attention he’d given Tim to help build him up, give him foundations to build further upon, that hopefully at least that history that was still there, still relevant, still something Tim had actively benefited and grown from in ways Dick now hoped to help Damian....like surely this would be of at least SOME significance to Tim, SOME kind of proof of how much Dick loved and valued Tim....

Because one time and one time ONLY, Dick DIDNT put Tim’s needs first, not because he didn’t want to or because he was being selfish or short sighted or simply didn’t care, but rather solely because this one time Tim’s needs were in direct opposition with the needs of another young boy Dick saw as his responsibility and in even greater need and with even less of a foundation than the one Dick had helped Tim build....

This puts Dick on the same level as Tim’s shitbag parents, the ones who are infamous for (and practically synonymous with) emotional abuse and neglect. Dick’s basically interchangeable with them now. Certainly no better than them. Tim’s entire emotional well-being rested on Dick and Dick alone and nothing he’d provided Tim with in the past counts, just this one moment in time right here right now, that’s the entirety of their relationship see, it all comes down to this and nothing else, and because Dick didn’t put Tim first, no matter WHAT his reasons or how much he wanted to, he has officially failed Tim as hard as the neglectful parents who did nothing BUT neglect, ignore and just not give a shit at all, simply because they couldn’t be bothered to.

Yeah.

That’s neat.

Thanks so much for stopping by anon and for leaving this really cool question! I’m such a sucker for parallels and symbolism, so I do have a few opinions about these characters (Sansa, Dany and Jon under the cut – no opinions about Aegon) and had a lot of fun writing them down!! ❤️

Arya

What I really liked, and what stood out for me the most (in the show), is that after Arya accepted that she wasn't No One but indeed Arya Stark of Winterfell and came back to Westeros, she very much took on Ned's appearance. She gets dressed and wears her hair the same way Ned does, and shows confidentially that she takes right after her father, where her being the only one in the pack (beside Jon) who inherited the Stark-look (long face, brown hair, and grey eyes) wasn’t something she was actually proud of as a child.

There are many more parallels between these two (the Baratheon friendship, the dislike of the southern culture and the people at court, their sense of loyalty, …) but what I like most is her understanding of the death sentence and how Arya has internalized Ned's teachings. The one who speaks the sentence must also carry out the killing. It is the opposite of what she is taught by the faceless men and in the end it is also one of the reasons why she realizes that she can never be truly No One. Which, I guess, is why she showed her face to every one of her kills that was on her list of names (at least in the show, but I'm sure it will be similar in the books).

I never thought much about the parallels to Lyanna, except that she also had the typical look from the north and was also much wilder than is expected for a noble-born woman. Probably it is one of the reasons why Ned encourages Arya’s nature instead of scolding her for it. But I think it says more about the relationship Ned had with either his sister and his daughter.

As for Cate I think the most striking parallel is probably their cunning. Which Sansa also inherited from her mother, and Ned unfortunately never managed to master, because he is too driven by honor. As women, all three are underestimated in this world, and yet (and perhaps because of this) manage to outsmart the men around them. For example, when Arya names Jaqen H'ghar as her third name in order to escape from Harrenhal, that was pretty damn clever and something that her mother would have done as well.

Also, and sadly, their desire for vengeance is something that shapes and drives both characters (referring to Lady Stoneheart in the books) too. Because of that, I'm really curious if they will ever meet (if the next book ever gets published) and if there will be any revenge for Arya against the Frey's at all.

Sansa

Just as Arya takes on Ned's appearance, Sansa does it with Catelyn's in the later seasons. I think this is particularly interesting because in the beginning, during her time in KL, she copied Cersei's hair and clothes, and later she copied Margaery’s. It shows her role models at each stage and it's particularly striking that at the end she takes on her mother's look, just as Cersei adapts that of her father Tywin.

Even if the comparison between Arya and Lyanna is drawn much more often, I always found that Sansa and her aunt have much more parallels. The beauty of the two is something that is often highlighted in the story, emphasized, for example, as Rhaegar names Lyanna the queen of love and beauty at the tourney at Harrenhal, similar to Loras giving Sansa a rose at the Hand's tourney. I suspect that for both women this circumstance has led to their intelligence and other abilities being greatly underestimated, if not overlooked, in their very male-dominated world.

Fortunately, Sansa has the chance to evolve into self-empowerment, which I think is the main focus of her journey, whereas Lyanna died way too early to achieve that. She was forced to marry a man she didn't want (Robert), (as was Sansa btw), so Lyanna saw the only way to prevent that in running away with Rhaegar. And I can imagine that early Sansa, the little romantic that she is, would have made a similar decision.

I don't like that many say Sansa acts like Cersei in the later seasons because she admires her. I don't think that's the case at all. Cersei only acts out of self-interest (and sometimes, especially in the books, quite stupidly). Sansa, on the other hand, does what is right for her people. She combines her mother's strength with her father's understanding of the Northerners.

She is cunning as Cate, which is not a bad quality per se, and develops an understanding when someone tries to manipulate her. At the same time, she always has the well-being of her people in focus, which Cersei definitely doesn’t. Which is why I think Sansa is a good queen and is just right to take Robb's place (the obvious choice if she were a man) and Cersei is absolutely terrible at her job.

Jon

I have to say, for Jon it’s almost the hardest to give an accurate answer, because the character (especially in the later seasons) differs a lot between book and show. Regarding the show, I would say that Jon doesn’t have much in common with his birth parents, because he really is the reincarnation of Ned, the honorable fool, as he calls himself. Always trying to do the right thing, even if it goes against his heart’s desire.

Rhaegar, on the other hand, does exactly the opposite in the plot for which we know him best. And even if his relationship with Lyanna is often categorized as incredibly romantic, it is one thing above all: selfish. Show!Jon couldn't be more the opposite.

Jon is a good leader, as Rhaegar was, or at least is praised to be. Both have melancholic tendencies, and at least book!Jon, has a tendency to sarcasm (at least in his thoughts) where it is said about Rhaegar , he often had an ironic undertone in his voice (according to Jaime)

Rhaegar is musical, interested in the fine arts, Jon doesn't really show interest in that. What they do have in common is a belief in something that is more than what the eye perceives. For Rhaegar this means believing in prophecies and such things, and Jon is not atheistic either, even if he lives out his beliefs in the Old Gods less than some other characters. Both of them are highly valued by their followers and I think also for both of them this is a quality that shapes their character a lot.

Still, I have to say that for me the background of Rhaegar and Lyanna's relationship, the consequences especially for Elia and her children, but also for the whole country will always be in the spotlight.

I've already read several metas that say book!Jon takes more after his birth father because his motives and actions are also less moral (e.g. only giving food to the people of the Free Folk who are willing to fight for the Night's Watch – a huge difference to the show version). Still, I would say Jon is more pragmatic than selfish, another area where Rhaegar would have needed to catch up if he’d been given the chance.

Daenerys

Whereas it was more difficult for me to think about Rhaegar's positive qualities in relation to Jon, I have to say that it was easier for me in relation to Dany. This might be because Daenerys is so frequently compared to Rhaegar as a compliment. Not only in her looks, but also with her intelligence, her determination and in the love that her people have for her. Ser Barristan calls him determined, deliberate, dutiful, and single-minded, all positive qualities that also apply to Dany.

As for Aerys, it's also hard to draw parallels. As I said in another post, I think the Targaryen madness is not really madness (being crazy) but more an obsession, whether it's about religion, dragons, or with Dany, her desire to liberate her people. What we know about Aerys, however, shows that he was indeed sick, paranoid, after his captivity. That is something different and not something I see or suspect with Dany.

What I have found, though, are explanations about the young Aerys, which at some points apply to her:

In his youth, while not being the most intelligent, nor the most diligent of princes, he was described as having an undeniable charm. He was generous, handsome and resolute, although somewhat quick to anger.

In the same paragraph, however, it is said that he was vain, proud, and fickle, qualities that made him easy prey for sycophants and sycophants. While Dany is proud, she quickly develops over the course of the story into a person who sees through the manipulation attempts of those around her and is clever enough to avoid them.

There might be a possibility that through a traumatic experience (like for Viserys selling his mother's crown) her obsession finally drives her to take more drastic measures to achieve her goal. However, I think it's unlikely that Dany actually drifts into absolute madness like her father and burns down an entire city without thinking. She is much too reflective for that. Should she actually go completely ‘Fire and Blood’, then I think it will be a very conscious decision, rather than an impulsive one.

“I had a fun time too.” You lied straight through your teeth, with a smile on your face to make your statement look more convincing.

You had just returned from your sixth date with Genma, and you were the most cruel human possible for leading him on like this. Given, he was a player back in the academy and broke many hearts but he had now redeemed himself and parted with the playboy ways. Your intuition told you he was genuinely falling for you but you couldn’t reciprocate, constantly giving yourself the excuse of just one more date.

But how to give your heart to him when it already belonged to another?

He pecked your lips lightly and gazed into your eyes, then stepped back and continued, “So I was wondering if you would come back to my place for dinner next Friday?

He looked like a golden retriever yearning for its favourite toy, you didn’t know how to say no to him.

Of course, you weren’t dumb. You knew what he was hinting at. The next level of your relationship was physical intimacy. You were sure this was the longest Genma might have dated someone without indulging in uhh, lovemaking.

You knew he was trying to be patient with you, because you had never gone that far with any of

your previous relationships, third base was foreign territory to you. You knew this was a well known fact among your colleagues but you were over the initial embarrassment now.

But the question was,

Were you ready for that?

He was one of the most sought after bachelors in Konoha, alongside Izumo, Kotetsu, Kakashi-

Kakashi of course.

Kakashi was coolness personified and you were not even kidding. Almost every one wanted to either be him or be with him. Both applied to all possible genders. Even as a kid, he was a once in a millennium prodigy, the pride of ANBU during his youth, famous in every Ninja village across the world. He was a celebrity for goodness sake! He had his own horde of fangirls and fanboys alike. Kakashi had single digit failed missions in an entire record of few hundreds at least. It was almost an insult to give that skilled shinobi a mission below A rank. You both started alongside ay the academy and you were nowhere near his match. Both as an opponent and a partner. That too in both senses, as a team as well as a couple.

You were sure you were one of the many girls pining after him. Sometimes, you gave yourself false hope that even though you weren’t in the same circle at academy, he might have noticed you, crushed on you, felt the same adoration for you.

But who were you kidding? With a exquisite range of beauties lining up at his doorstep to create his progeny, where would you even stand?

“(Y/N) babe? You alright?” Genma asked snapping you out of your thoughts and you almost forgot he was standing in front of you, actually paying you some of his wanted attention and your younger self might have almost felt giddy about it, but you felt nothing but horrible. Horrible because you couldn’t return the enthusiasm and love Genma was offering to you with a pure heart. Horrible because you couldn’t find it in yourself to be brave enough and confess to someone you wanted to be with so much. Horrible because you knew, somewhere deep inside, that your favourite fantasies of love would never come true. But Genma didn’t deserve this either, he didn’t deserve to be treated this way, and the sooner you told him that, the more heartbreak you would be saving both of you from.

“Genma I have mission on Thursday, which might extend up to weeks. I’m sorry-” That was the truth. It might buy you some time as well to figure out what to say to him.

“Hey, it’s okay, not your fault doll. We’ll reschedule after maybe? That sound good?” He gave you a cheeky smile that you loved. Before any of this, you had been friends and he was a gem of a friend. Loyal, true and charismatic. You nodded a genuine smile up at him and suddenly hugged him, he was a good friend after all and you knew nothing would come in the way of that ever.

“Thank you.” You murmured in his chest and he kissed your forehead.

“Anytime.” He replied and left with a smile.

He knew you needed a friend at the moment and that was all he was being then, a good friend.

It was two nights before your mission when Genma suddenly asked you to meet him at the bar. ‘A casual hangout’ he said. But you knew that was obviously not the case.

You had dressed in a simple attire, a top and jeans, the basic only. You had thought it over the previous nights and finally reached the conclusion, you were going to tell Genma the truth. The exact conversation hadn’t played out in your head but you knew what lines to go along.

You would even tell everyone he dumped you and it would be okay if he never wanted to speak to you again cause you didn’t deserve even his friendship for being so ruthless and downright nasty.

But how would you survive without one of your true companions?

Well that was certainly your problem now, not his. Genma was immaculately kind and genuine and you were a cold bitch.

“This is clearly not working (Y/N).”

Well that wasn’t what you were expecting. You knew what he was getting at but juts so you were on the same page you dumbly asked, “What?”

He sighed and looked in your eyes, giving you a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“It’s getting kinda obvious. You do know I can read you quite well and I see there’s something you’re trying to hide, something that so clearly shows. I could tell you were moving on, well trying to at least. You gave your heart to him when we were just kids, while I gave mine to you. Funny how fate works?”

Neither of you laughed.

“But I guess this is some sort of karma. And it’s going to hurt me for a bit of time. But I’ll be okay. I can’t see you like anymore though. I really hope he appreciates all the love you have for him. And comes around soon. But stay in my life nevertheless.”

You didn’t realise when you started crying, but your face had heated up and you streams of tears tried to cool it down.

With a shaking sob, you replied, “I don’t deserve you Genma. But I Know you’ll find another and be just fine. For your sake, I really hope you do. And Thank you.” You wrapped your arms around him while tears landed on both your shoulders.

It must have been so incredibly hard for him to do this yet he never failed to amaze you. You were proud to be a part of his life. You tilted back and looked in his glazed eyes, stood on your toes and pressed your lips to his, one last pasting kiss. There was so much emotion in it, from both sides that you knew you’d never forget this moment ever.

Genma really knew like the back of his hand, you never even said his name but both knew who you were talking about.

Kakashi always sat at the back of the bar, where he could drink his beer without the prying eyes of others trying to see his face. He rarely drank, lest he was with his friends but his heart was aching right now. He had messed up his mission yesterday because he couldn’t think straight after he saw (Y/N) looking as gorgeous as ever With her sleek (f/c) dress and cherry red lips. He might have drooled, he did actually, but gained his senses when he saw Genma accompanying her. He quickly hid, masking his chakra and looked at the happy couple. It was his fault, if anything for never acting on his feelings.

What good are your worldwide achievements if you don’t have a family to share them with?

Both his parents were taken away from him at a very young age and he had no relatives. Studying too hard, over exerting himself and being bratty became his coping mechanisms. Since his early childhood, Kakashi was very independent and self-confident, at times even appearing arrogant and condescending. Despite that, Kakashi was very perceptive and intuitive, quickly realising the situation for what it was. After his father's death, Kakashi became more stern, aloof and cold toward others, dating was never something he considered important, it didn’t even cross his mind. The only people he ever let into his life were a handful of classmates like Gai, Asuma, maybe even Kurenai to some extent but romance was out of his story, At least he thought it was.

He first realised his love at some festival being celebrated in Konoha, when his bored eyes saw you all dressed up, beside your group of friends. You were laughing so wholeheartedly that even tears pooled there. He was thankful for whatever had you wheezing so hard. Sure, he always thought you were attractive, he knew how to appreciate beauty, but for some reason that laugh created a domestic picture in his head and he knew wouldn’t mind listening to it again.

That night he thought about you, like really thought about you. Reminiscing about every encounter you both had ever had, and he fell harder for you the same night. He remembered how you approached him after his father’s passing, the only person whose eyes held true sadness apart from his real friends’ circle.

He knew a lot of his admirers left him gifts at his house, expensive chocolates, cards, bouquets but he knew their intentions were never genuine. But he also remembered that among the lot, were homemade cookies and chocolates. They never had a name but he connected the dots when he found out your distant aunt had some sort of bakery. It was conformed when he saw you travelling through Konoha with several baskets in your hands, Your teen self trying to figure the addresses. He might or not have followed you. Some were your aunt’s deliveries while you brought some of them to your friends’ house and one last basket which you left at his doorstep.

You never approached him after to take credit, or with some other purpose. You didn’t even contact him in academy the next day.

He found himself wishing way too often that you did.

As much of a genius as Kakashi was, it took him way too much time, more than he’d like to admit, several years exactly, to realise the extent of his feelings. It happened when you started to date someone. It never crossed his mind why you never dated before but he wished it could go back to that. He caught you with your date kissing in a park and he swore he heard his heart break. Like really, really break. Then the intellectual finally figured out his Love.

And he knew he screwed up.

You see her when you close your eyes Maybe one day you'll understand why Everything you touch surely dies.

After that realization, you plagued his thoughts. He thought he would confess if your relationship ended but he was a coward. And he hated himself for it. He knew how shit his reason of losing you if he confessed was, but it was effective. The amount of close people he had lost just amplified his fear. He couldn’t afford to lose you, even if it pained his heart to admire you just from afar.

He was an exceptional ninja and his alert senses identifies your chakra as soon as you entered. Even in casual clothes, you were the prettiest thing he had ever laid eyes on. His gaze followed your short walk to the bar countertop where he found Genma and his mood turned sour. He was once again reminded of all he couldn’t have.

He observed the couple from a few feet behind his crush, and he saw you both hug suddenly. His heart broke all over again when he saw a tear roll down Genma’s cheek and you pulling Genma in a hot, steamy kiss. Though you both weren’t aware, you made quite a scene in the bar and everyone was gazing right at you both. Kakashi quickly paid for his tab and ran out, breathing heavily.

What if Genma proposed? That was a bizarre thought because he knew you’ve been dating for just over a month but Kakashi didn’t know how relationships progressed. That night found him lying awake in his bed and he came to a conclusion.

That he’d be damned if he let you get away without even trying.

PYROC VS FATHER PAUL

Ya bitch needs an art break bc im getting angry about voices existing as i try to keep myself entertained. Today is NOT a god one for sinking into repetitive line work and that’s just about all i have on the table atm

SO! Im gunna do a little thinking about my little meow meows all fucked up by religion. Just a comparison for my sanity and interests. Pyroc is my baby i wrote him for the first time years ago. Five?????????? Whadda hell. Going on six.

ANYWAY john joined religion because of his trauma. His sister died and he felt lost. He was unmoored in this fishing village and looking for reason looking for hope. Hed had his heart broken and trying to make sense of tragedy on his own was totally beyond him. Thats why his interactions with riley in AA are SO good like. He knows that confusion and he knows the rhetoric that’s supposed to combat it. Only it dooesnt work for riley.

The same sort of thing happens for pyrc, only inverted. Loss urns him away from god and religion because its SO strong in his family and not only is he loosing trust in god, but his kin as well. He’s suspicious there’s mre they arent telling him, at the point of his fathers death. And he agrees to, on the surface, absolutely wholly throw himself in to being the second the family and the village need. But he’s keeping his treachery under wraps.

That’s one of the coolest things about father paul imo is like. That slow unraveling of what is. Frankly. An awful half assed plan, driven by fear and loneliness and desperation and dementia and love. Even VERY obvious things like. Taking down the newspaper photo of his young self ‘slip’ by him. I think, on some level, its DEEPLY intentional. He wants people to CHOOSE this. He wants people like bev. He wants people who see him and are in aw of him beating god. Of killing death. He wants to be worshiped and adored and for people to come to him willingly, no tragedy driving them to his arms.

Pyroc also wnats to be worshipped, but he ALSO wants to do the worshipping. He really longs for an element of almost????? But not quite??? Subjection?? He wants to be shown something and for a Great Voice to tell him, unquestioningly and unerringly that it is GOOD. Full stop. And then he wants to spend his life worshipping it. But this booko is an exploration of how….. no such thing exists. And more importantly no great voice exists either. There is nothing wholly good, nothing wholy evil. His lack of faith in himself once he becomes god is him starting to understand that as well. Thats on purpose baked into the lore. The starting point was ‘what if god was a position and in order to get promoted you had to be a murderer. No matter what’. He understands things are not wholly good, at that point. I onder how long it will be for him to realize they are not fully evil as well?

Bc pruitt does hm hm hm an interesting move. Where he takes something the narritve is very sure to communicate is EVIL no wiggle room just fact. Even if its driven by animal instinct its. Evil. And he makes it, not just good, but HOLY. And god i LOVEEEE that for him i ADOREEE that what a MOVE. Driven by desperation and dementia and relief and ‘if god saved me than maybe i can be good despite loving and sinning and maybe if i defeat god then i will be Thee Good’. SO sexy of him. Im really fascinated by his morality. He seems to have an understanding of the shades of grey in some respects??? But if he had a BETTER one with more forgiveness in his heart i feel like hed have left the church anyway after sarah was born??? Even if millie didnt ask him??? That might just be my own sensibilities creeping in but ….. like he culd have seen her on the weekends. He can do other jobs. Hes straight (??? Not totally convinced of this) he could have just dated her that makes me crazy. LIKE OBV HE HAD LINES HE THOUGHT THAT WOULD CROSS AND HE HAD INTERNALIZED THE CHURCH AND THE RULES AND SHE WAS MARRIED AND ECT ECT i know he couldnt have really but. Thye were straight. They coulda.

Im not gunna do fantasy homophobia bc i think its …………….. Boring. But i think some element of??? The vindlegaurd line MUST be passed along and for that particular rules must be applied. But thats also boring as hell :/ maybe i can work in my parthenogenesis lore?????????? I bet pyroc would love building that spell in any universe. That’s the sequal when he goes to magic university in helsin. But yeah i do like the concept that. Anyone can have a baby thru magic its just a time and energy commitment. Just a matter of wanting it enough together. Every baby is so deeply wanted and its mere existence is proof. Thats dope i love that. HMMM to be decided at a later date when im deeper into the story i think. I still havent figured out fully how and where and why orion is going to be invovled and if???? Pyroc and orion are even going to be romantic??????? Im torn im TORn…….

Thikns about john bonding w sarah over science and learning and starts wEEPING…. Like theres some surity beloved. Its just a matter of uncovering. I think sarah felt that same thirst for answers and hunted them differently. Her faith is in logic and science. I loveeee her god. Every scene w her and her dad absolutely RUIN me like!!!!!! SHE DOESNT KNOW!!! SHE DOESNT KNOW HOW LOVED SHE IS!!!!!! I hope at hte very end she saw the blood as the gesture of love it SO clearly was and not him trying to poison her. God i love that she spat it out. GOD. Thats about being gay, btw. Spits the religious offering that could save you across the gasoline soaked church floor like BABE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we as a collective should talk about the possibiites around sarah/erin more. Bc their defiance combined would be. Earth SHATTERING for crockett.

In the future pyroc gets a kid. Ever since that campaign where Enemy ended up playing his daughter im like. How did i NOT know this idiot wanted nothing more in the entire world than to travel it with his daughter. I dont care how or why hes getting a kid. Hed be so doting and awful abut it. He would need orion as a co-parent for the kids self esteem to be normal levels. thINKS ABOUT PAUL GETTING TO RAISE SARAH AND JUST ABSOLUTELY GASSING HER UPPPPPPPP HANGING EVERY DOODLE SHE EVER MADE ON TEH FRIDGE. BOASTING ABOUT HER SCEINECE PROJECT OT ANYONE WITHIN EYESIGHT EVEN THOUGH ‘WE K N O W JOHNWE WERE ALL AT THE SCEINCE FAIR’!!!!!!!!!!! Let these fuck ups be doting fathers im fucking begging. That scene where paul is like. You take ccare of everyone on the island sarah. Its more than being a doctor. You comfort them.

HM HM comfort is such a thing for Miss Bitch like!! He sees it as a Good Thing. He tries to bring it for riley by asking to hold the AA meetings on island ((also manipulation. Obvously also manipulation. I wouldnt have bene shocked if he was slipping the vampire blood into the coffee every meeting either. But thats just a theory. A game theory.)) ANYWAY he sees comfort as hly. The church gave it to him when he needed it. The angel gave it to him in the cave. Feeling safe and warm is HIGH on his list of priorities and what makes him hand over respect.

I think pyroc has lived a very comfortable life in SO many ways, but in none he. Activly recognizes. A key part of his character arc his him…. Opening his eyes to the world around them. Seeing the privilege he has and being like. Wait. This isnt Right. We have to change thi. And when no one agrees ti shifts to I have to change this. With Violence. A little revolutionary <3 it only costs the life of his whole ass family

Thats more fun comparison ground like…… paul is SO much about I know whats right and there is a cost but i AM ignoring it. Like HE KNOOOOWSSSS he knooooows he just doesnt want o See. I’m not sure if im going to surprise yroc with the ……megadeath of. His whole family. Or if it’s a choice he has to activly make. I think a choice makes it more compelling, more layerd. It has to be in the moment though, becaus ei think thats. A key difference between them. Pyroc wouldnt do it.. hed just leave hed peace out and do what he could in small ways. But he wouldnt do his big stand off with god. Hed shrink his goals in order to not hurt his family. Out of love?? Intimidation?? Some instinct wihtin him that balks at the idea of disobedience??? I think even he doesnt know. But i LOVE john becaue he jsut decides to lie. He closes his eyes and says i am being stupid on purpose. I think thats PERHAPS more compelling than good guy coward pyroc BUT!!!!! Thats who he is rip to ths little man. Cant change him now hes a whole ass child in my head. The PLOT i can change. Him….. not without massive character development <3

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MM set my brain on FIRE!!!! Im so glad nano is coming up. I love sharpening pyroc against the comparison of other AMAZING characters. Favorite Scenes from Each Episode of Loki (Spoilers Ep. 1-4)

Episode 1: Loki watches his memories

After Loki escapes and comes back to his cell, he privately watches the rest of his memories, from his mother and father’s deaths, to his reconciliation with his brother, and then finally, his own death. This scene was absolutely beautiful, and Hiddleston’s acting was amazing. You can see everything he’s feeling in a series of subtle facial expressions, and seeing him start to cry as he watched his parents die, along with that music, did something to me. Then he started smiling sadly when he realized that he would he reconciled with Thor, and I just really liked that. Loki was watching his redemption arc, and realizing that he could become a good person. He isn’t just some pure evil monster.

But then, his joy slowly morphs into dread as he watches Thanos choke him, and the little gasp and look of shock, terror, and horror as we hear his neck getting snapped gave me chills. Then there’s just a shot showing the tape has ended (which was just a visually appealing shot to me btw), and it really solidifies the fact that that was it. He just watched himself die. It really hit me like a truck, and I just *chef’s kiss* perfect.

Episode 2: “He’s hiding in apocalypses”

Such a simple scene, but I really like it. The buildup to the moment he realizes the answer is really well done, and his salad metaphor was hilarious! I just found it so clever, and watching the gears turn in his head was great. As he explained, everything just began to dawn on me, and I couldn’t help but laugh when I understood it because it’s just “oh my god that’s smart!”

Episode 3: What is love/Loki sings

This was just absolutely beautiful. I was really impressed by his voice, and the raw emotion in this scene at points. Like in the first episode, it really dives into his mind and psychology, and I love it. At the end of the day, Loki’s just a really lonely person, and this scene helped me realize that. Also, yeah I mainly just liked his singing voice cause it’s really pretty.

Episode 4: Frick it, let’s just talk about the whole episode (Heavy Spoilers)

I loved this episode so much. I couldn’t decide on a scene. I think my #1 favorite was the memory prison where Loki just let everything out to Sif. It was kind of the thesis of the show, and conceptually it’s really interesting. It wasn’t his worst or most painful or sensitive memory, it was something he barely thought about.

Or was it? Because what Sif said was actually a lot, and is probably one of the most hurtful things you could say to Loki at the end of the day. And it’s hidden in a small, meaningless memory, but it’s so important. It might not have hurt him at the time. Hell, it might not have hurt him before this. But (and this applies to anyone) if you replay that kind of memory over and over again on repeat, you’ll start to internalize it and think deeper about it. What starts out as something meaningless quickly grows into something deeper, and that’s what happened in this scene.

I liked this scene and concept so much, I made my own little version for a new OC of mine, and it plays out very differently, but it carries the same idea; insignificant memory hits harder when replayed.

Then there’s also what Loki said. He finally grew tired of it and just admitted what he was feeling, and it was amazing. I think I even clapped. It was great. I could analysis it here, but I’d need to rewatch the scene and I can’t right now. But what I vividly remember is Sif’s response. He just told her all about his feelings of loneliness and isolation and his fear of abandonment, and what does she do? She looks him dead in the eye and word for word repeats what she’s said dosens of times: “You’re alone, and you always will be.”

This time it’s more venomous, and she just coldly walks away. Damn. The previous times, she kneed him in the face after punching him, but for this, she doesn’t even need to, because that was a far more effective knee to the face than any of the others ever were and ever could be.

My second favorite scene that episode was when Sylvie confirmed for Agent B-20 (I think that’s her name?) that her memories were faked. I really felt for her in that scene, and even though I didn’t like her before, I legitimately felt really bad for her. The fact that is was raining really hard also gave off a good effect for when she started to (probably) cry. Then she just says “I looked so happy” and it just. I’m suffering.

I also loved when Agent Whatishisface says that if he could go anywhere at any time, he would go back to where he came from. I just found it beautiful, and it solidified he and Loki’s friendship. AND THEN HE DIES. I did find it interesting that judge lady looked away because even though she made the order and she found it necessary, he was still her friend. But anyways, that hurt. Especially after Loki’s reaction. He barely fought back because one of his only friends just die in front of him trying to help him. He looked legitimately hurt in a very human way. It’s one of those moments that shows that, while he’s not a good person, Loki really doesn’t like seeing other people die outside the heat of battle. It just reminded me of the moment in episode 3 when he said “they’re just gonna leave these people to die.” He found it unfair and unjust that they would let innocent people die like that.

I don’t know why I keep on thinking about this. I think it’s just because it’s the most normal reaction I’ve seen from him. He expresses his grief in a normal way that is just like how anyone else would react in that situation.

Another moment I liked is right after that, Sylvie finally asks why she was taken, and judge lady just says “I don’t remember.” Oof. Just a slap to the face. Something that ruined Sylvie’s life was so insignificant to the lady, she doesn’t even remember why it happened. And then Sylvie’s reaction is just pure pain.

And finally, the part where Loki McFucking dies. That shock me, and they might as well have just stabbed me cause that’s what it felt like. They better bring him (and the detective) back next episode. Or at least eventually.

Why C+B=R doesn’t work...

*rubs hands*

This is going to be fun…

I’ll start with busting the evidences that the theorist gave to make their theory believable (I’m not trying to mock them here btw don’t get me wrong) and continue with other factors why they simply do not work.

1)Follies done for love.

So the first thing the theorist talks about is Catelyn’s Tully morals and stuff, then they give Catelyn’s thoughts when she learns of Robb and Jeyne’s marriage as one of the evidences.

Only then came her belated remembrance. Follies done for love? He has bagged me neat as a hare in a snare. I seem to have already forgiven him.

-A Storm of Swords, Catelyn II.

They claim that the “follies done for love” is actually about Robb’s parentage.

“Brandon knew how to take what he wanted. Seems like he begged some,

(We will wed on my return he vowed) and she agreed,

hence the follies done for love.”

This could have been a good comment of the paragraph if we didn’t have a much better and realistic cause for her thoughts which is Jaime. Catelyn freed Jaime to get back her daughters, the daughters she loved fiercely, and she believes they are under Cersei’s claws, who she also blames for her husband’s death, and I don’t think I have to talk about the love Catelyn bears to Ned, for I never shut up about it. (Mind that Catelyn was unaware that Arya had escaped from the capital when she freed Jaime.) So no, passing off Brandon’s bastard as Ned’s isn’t the follies done for love, but freeing Jaime Lannister.

2)I did so gladly.

Here, the other evidence is that she marries Ned gladly and in a haste, because she’ll pass the child as his own, and she shouldn’t be far along or showing by the time they marry.

“When Brandon died shortly before they were to wed, Catelyn now having realized she is pregnant does not want her baby to grow up a bastard, so when told she must marry Ned in a haste, she does so gladly, planning to tell him that the child is his own.”

The problem here is how they interpret the word “gladly”.

Highborns rarely have the chance to choose whom they marry, especially if they are a woman and it’s their lord father who had arranged the marriage for them. (The Queen of Thorns, we all know she’s just another level.) Keep in mind that Catelyn is the favored child of Tully, (I love the Tullys but sorry Hoster that’s bad parenting 101) she is probably even more loved than Edmure, the heir to the Riverlands, and being his precious child, he wants Catelyn to be happy, for she deserves the world (FACTS!). But the man is also ambitious as fuck, she wants both daughters to be the wifes of high lords, and mother high lordlings. This is a great chance at hand, probably that comes very rarely too, considering the heir to the North has always had a Northern marriage. But Catelyn, being the dutiful daughter she is (Family, Duty, Honor) answers the way it would please her lord father.

And when Lord Hoster promised her to Brandon Stark, she had thanked him for making her such a splendid match.

And when Brandon was murdered and Father told me I must wed his brother, I did so gladly, though I never saw Ned’s face until our wedding day. I gave my maidenhood to this solemn stranger and sent him off to his war and his king and the woman who bore him his bastard, because I always did my duty.

She marries off Ned “gladly” because she has always done her duty, not because she wants to pass Brandon’s bastard as Ned’s.

3)Jon Snow…

“Another issue is the way that Catelyn treats Jon. Jealousy is understandable, but it's very uncommon for a woman and a mother, with maternal instincts, to treat a small child so badly.”

The whole Jon Snow/Catelyn relationship is severely misunderstood, and I think that is why this is mentioned in the theory.

The thing is… Catelyn rarely even treats Jon. She simply ignores him to at least make his presence bearable. Jealousy comes a long while after Jon is born and brought to Winterfell, and that never makes a change to Catelyn’s behaviour.

She might have overlooked a dozen bastards for Ned’s sake, so long as they were out of sight. Jon was never out of sight, and as he grew, he looked more like Ned than any of the trueborn sons she bore him.

-A Game of Thrones, Catelyn II.

Her problem is not Ned banging another woman in wartime, it’s that this child is in her home, where her trueborn children lives. He lives pretty much in the same luxuries with her own children. This might be bold of me, but there is no other ACKNOWLEDGED (The Baratheon (!) children are out) bastard in the Seven Kingdoms who lives in much luxury under such conditions (like Ned lacking a true born heir, etc.). As their marriage and relationship progresses, my parents (Ned & Cat) fall in love and this is where you can assume the jealousy comes in. She loves Ned dearly, fiercely, and it not only breaks her heart but makes herself feel as if she’s not enough to see that Jon remains in Winterfell, no matter how many sons she had bore him. Aye, she is aware that Ned is bestotted with her, but just like everyone, she has her dark moments where she wonders if she could never fill the hole that the bastard’s mother had left behind (Let’s not forget to mention that she doesn’t even know if she had ever left his heart at all). Despite being a fictional character, Catelyn is still human, and no one can ever blame her for being a human. That is what makes her a greatly rounded and complex character in the first place.

It is also confirmed by George R. R. Martin that Catelyn has never abused or mistreated Jon in any way, other than the time she snapped at him when Jon came to bid Bran farewell.

“Mistreatment” is a loaded word. did Catelyn beat Jon bloody? No. Did she distance herself from him? Yes. Did she verbally abuse and attack him? No. (The instance in Bran’s bedroom was obviously a very special case.) But I am sure she was very protective of the rights of her own children, and in that sense always drew the line sharply between bastard and trueborn where issues like seating on the high table for the king’s visit were at issue. And Jon surely knew that she would have preferred to have him elsewhere.

“Keep in mind that the only way a bastard can threaten a trueborn 1st son is if the trueborn son is actually a bastard.”

Umm, no? The kid is a danger to all, especially if something were to happen to Robb. After all, Catelyn’s other children are also a part of the line of succession after Robb.

“In the show Catelyn says: “All this horror that's come to our family, It's all because I couldn't love a motherless child”.”

I think I have talked enough about how this scene totally ruins Catelyn’s character, and my opinions on this matter can be understood pretty clearly from the explanation I made about Catelyn and Jon’s relationship. The show is full of bullshit, and this is just one of them. (see my twitter account for this)

4)EvEn CeRsEi?!

“When Catelyn discovers Cersei's children are bastards who are not Robert's, she thinks:

"Would even Cersei be so mad? Catelyn was speechless."

Why EVEN Cersei? Why not simply say Cersei?

She can't believe another woman did the same thing she did, which is to let her husband raise another man's child, as his own.”

LMAO, she is talking about the freaking Targaryens!!! Cersei is literally the queen of the man who dethroned the mad incest supporters and she finds out that his wife is doing the same exact thing! Don’t you guys think it’s ironic? Well, I wonder what makes Catelyn so shocked...

(Oh and by the way, Cersei, baby you were so right..)

5)16,20,50 & Some Height Issues

“This is what Catelyn thinks about Robb: “Let him grow taller, she asked the gods. Let him know sixteen, and twenty, and fifty. Let him grow as tall as his father, and hold his own son in his arms. ”

So let’s ask ourselves Why these numbers? Does Catelyn just pick them out at random or is there meaning behind them? They certainly don’t seem to apply to Ned and yet they fit perfectly when applied to Brandon Stark  -Brandon was 16 when he met Catelyn and they fell in “love” -And was 20 when he died. -Although Rickard Starks exact age is unknown, I believe this is who Catelyn is thinking of when she says 50, Robbs Grandfather who died with Brandon.  So here we have Catelyn's thinking of Robb's life: may he live to meet a girl and fall in love, may he not die at 20 like his father or die at 50 like his grandfather. may he hold his own son in his arms, something Brandon was never able to do.”

This is one of the most well-thought evidences, but it’s wrong nonetheless.

Brandon Stark was born in 262 AC, and Catelyn was born in either 264 or 265 AC, we do not know the exact year.

So yes, he died at 20, but Catelyn was 12 when her father promised him to Brandon. That makes Brandon 14 or 15 when they met and “fell in love”.

Oh and the mention of “tall”:

““ Catelyn watched a breeze stir his auburn hair, so like her own, and wondered when her son had grown so big.

Fifteen , and near as tall as she was. ... Let him grow as tall as his father"

Catelyn specifically noted how disappointed she was with Ned's height, compared to Brandon who was tall.

Brandon being taller than Ned doesn’t mean Ned is short. Considering the average height for men is 5’9 today, someone who is 6’3 is tall. A man who is 6’1 is tall as well, but shorter than other. This is the same case. Ned is never mentioned to be short, he is just shorter than Brandon, who is mentioned to be tall.

5.1)Fall in love

Oh, and just fyi, Catelyn was never in love with Brandon. Yes she might have liked or even loved the idea of him and their live together, but never really loved him.

6)When possessive pronouns confuse the f out of you

so Why say HER son?

This is how the sentence should have been like,

Given the premise that Ned is Robb's father:

"not knowing whether Ned would ever see him. His son.”

Or:

"not knowing whether Ned would ever see him. Their son.””

So ok, I’ll admit that this is the best one by far. There’s nothing I can say to deny them, though Catelyn does mention the children as “our” and as Ned’s son as well. And while might imply, it does not give the theory %100 accuracy.

7)Nine moons

Catelyn thinking about Robb:

““Brandon Stark had bid her wait as well.

“I shall not be long, my lady,” he had vowed.

“We will be wed on my return.”

Nine moons since ‘Ned had lingered scarcely a fortnight with his new bride before he too had ridden off to war with promises on his lips.’ I think this was pretty clear but okay. Considering the huge hate towards Catelyn, I’ve come to a conclusion that Martin’s works are very open for misinterpretation.

8)A son

““he had given her a son.” He did give her a son, instead of a bastard.

By marrying Catelyn, Ned has effectively turned her Bastard into a son.”

I think this would have been again one of the best well thought, if Catelyn mentioned more than words to Brandon as well. She basically said that Brandon just left her with words while Ned gave her more. If Brandon gave her bastard, she wouldn’t have just said “words”. Yes, she might not have mentioned it as “a son” but there would be more than that.

9)Lord Dustin is Actually GRRM in a nutshell

GRRM’s like of hot women is known, and “hot women” by classic standards are big breasts, a slim waist and wide hips. They are big guys. Ned Stark is a lucky man. Don’t overread. Not to mention that Catelyn tells herself that she’s given her maidenhood to Ned. Yes, maidenhood does mean an unwed woman, but it is also the synonym of “maidenhood”.

9)First time

This is, again, a controversial remark, I personally believe that it’s her instinct. She felt it. Though, the way it could work is very simple.

Her moon blood might have been early due to stress or coming after a few days they wed anyway. This was a time of war and they didn’t wait till women were most “available”.

10)Timeline…

Ok so I was going to continue with the other stuff that the theorist had mentioned but this is getting too long and I’m getting bored. So let’s bust this theory with the simplest thing: Timeline!!!

“Age: Brandon died in 282AL , Rob was born in 283AL. Time wise, it's plausible.”

“they had spent that year apart, Ned off at war in the south”

This way, because she gave birth at Riverrun without Ned, Ned would not know exactly how long after he left Robb was born.

Robert's Rebellion timeline is speculative, at best.

This is how I think it went, in chronological order:

1. Catelyn and Brandon Conceived Robb at Riverrun.

2.Brandon left for KL, and died.

3.Ned married Catelyn BEFORE calling his banners, to make sure he has the Riverland's support. Riding all the way North from the Vale, only to go all the way back in times of war seems unlikely. Ned probably sent someone in his name to call his banners, while he went to wed Catelyn. This would place their marriage likely far less than 3 months after Brandon left Riverrun, probably around 6-8 weeks after Robb's conecption.

4.Ned goes to war.

5.Jon is born.

6.Robb is born.

Brandon dies In the early-mid of 282 AC (With the words arriving, Rickard coming to Kl) since Lyanna’s abduction happens early in the year. Then Aerys demands Ned and Robert’s heads so Jon Arryn calls the banners and Ned returns to the North and Robert leaves for Stormlands to call the banners. Then, The Battles of Summerhall happens, followed by Robert’s defeat in the Battle of Ashford. Having retreated to the Riverlands, The Siege of Storm’s End starts and we know that the defenders were already in bad shape “by year’s end.” Ned and Catelyn marry after the Battle of the Bells, since it is a double wedding and we know that Jon Arryn loses gallant cousin and heir, Ser Denys Arryn, so he needs a young wife to produce an heir. This means that Catelyn and Ned married in the early 283 AC.

If Brandon had impregnated Catelyn, she would have been heavy with child by the time they married, and Robb would have been big enough to know he’s not Ned’s by the time he meets Robb. I think this is the biggest evidence that this theory simply does not work.

11)Significance of Parentage

Robb getting in the list of the secret parentage reduces the significance of parentage. There are way more believable parentage theories (and canon ones like the Baratheon (!) children) out there that concerns other families, and they have much more evidence other than the crumbs here. Everyone being a secret bastard takes the excitement of the better ones like R+L=J or A+J=CJ (love this one, don’t think it’s true but love it anyways).

In conclusion, even if I’m wrong, and Robb is actually Catelyn’s son (though I know Catelyn to be better than that, there’s a reason why I stan her) it makes literally no impact to the storyline. Robb is dead, Ned is dead, Brandon is long dead, Catelyn is dead, at least the part of her that made her Catelyn is. How other people will be aware of this is a dilemma as well. There has to be a good reason for Bran to look from the eyes of the Godswood of Riverrun. The only way this can have an importance is Jeyne being pregnant, (The chances are quite low on this one.) though not much would come of it anyway.

hope you don't mind me asking, do you have any Isaac and Miria headcanons? i'd love to read some from you. you appear to have a good grasp on the characters, and great love for them. :)

some of these will probably get into theory territory as well, because i’ve had the novels sitting in my mind for years now, and there are a few details i’d like to mention (beware of baccano light novel spoilers, just in case).

this could get a bit long, so you can read it below the cut:

i’ll write my headcanons/thoughts in no particular order. more people might have come to similar conclusions, but i don’t think i’ve seen any posts or had any discussions with anyone regarding these (at least in depth), so!

- i like to think that miria and isaac ran away from their then (seemingly) unhappy lives after they got to interact with each other for quite a while, and not spontaneously upon meeting for the first time.

there isn’t much evidence to back this up beyond some characters commenting that they “were probably runaways” or that “maybe they eloped”, so they might have escaped together on the spot, since we already know they can be very impulsive. however, i get this feeling that their bond took some time to develop, and i’d love to see some of their interactions as isaac dian —and— miria harvent before they ever became isaac & miria, if that makes sense.

i doubt they met too long before their string of robberies, though? this is such a weirdly specific and probably meaningless thing to pinpoint, but in 1935 miria asks isaac if he’s ever been to the circus, and he responds that he does remember animals, but he doesn’t remember if that was the circus or the zoo. this hardly means anything, but their circumstances overall don’t really make me think that they’ve known each other since they were too young.

- whatever optimism and general exhilaration regarding life isaac has is innate. on the other hand, miria has mostly acquired her own sense of hopefulness over time, with isaac’s help.

miria is a 100% confirmed literal ray of sunshine and this indisputable. it just hasn’t/doesn’t always come to her as effortlessly as it may seem. bloody to fair isaac and miria magic show color page.png

this is somewhat related to the next one (and also the last point i’ll mention at the end of this post):

- when isaac gets arrested and he and miria get separated in 1934, they’re both having an equally hard time dealing with this.

okay this one is like. obvious ksjksk. but i wanted to talk about how they deal with this situation, because at first glance it looks like miria got the shortest end of the stick here. and in a way, that might be true! i’ve already mentioned that miria herself has been shown thinking about how much isaac helped her to be happy, and narita has been deliberately vague regarding the nature of their silliness, on top of hinting at the possibility of their shenanigans being a kind of mechanism to escape the harsh realities of life from the rolling bootlegs (very first novel), if i recall correctly.

(btw:

i recall that somewhere in the 1935 arc, graham starts talking with the usual “let me tell you a sad, sad story” prelude. however, isaac and miria are upset by this, and they tell him that he shouldn’t tell sad stories, because if you do it, your happiness will run away. meanwhile, this part in cloudy to rainy living rent free in my head:

that being said, i couldn’t help but feel like isaac was having an equally bad time, even if he displayed it in a different and not so blatant way. while i was rereading the novels after i got to buy the official english release, i felt very strongly that something was definitely wrong about their separation, which, again, is obvious to us readers and to the characters who know isaac & miria. but it extends beyond that. there was this general feeling of knowing that whoever came across an unaccompanied isaac would magically feel like there was something missing. i don’t know how else to explain this. he’s still full of energy and optimism and he’s fueled by his desire to reunite with miria, but every time he’s shown hesitating or doesn’t reach a satisfying conclusion while thinking about a frivolous topic, it hits you like “oh... right” (firo didn’t help much on that last front, either, so miria and isaac must have had to discuss what exactly happens to fellas who don’t believe in fairies after their reunion... lol)

in short, he needs miria just as much as she needs him. this is something i’ve seen other people mention as well: isaac might be the “force” factor in their relationship, but that force won’t amount to much without miria’s “direction”, and viceversa. the lift each other up, and they keep each other grounded, too.

i’m also remembering isaac and sham’s conversation and just. there’s a self-esteem/confidence factor in there. Fun Game of Spot the Difference

and this is getting ridiculously long, so i’ll spare you from having to read my dumb thots about isaac’s (possibly real) fear of miria not liking him, as the narrator implies, which i subconsciously ended up linking to that one impossibly crack ending in the ds game, where you pick the option of him not knowing frankenstein’s monster’s real name, so miria leaves him after realizing how “cheap and uncool” he is LMAO

- isaac’s father might have been an academic of some sort, as well as a stern man who disapproved of his son’s flighty and childish tendencies.

???????? besides miria’s implied tragic backstory, the most we know about both of their pasts is that isaac comes from a wealthy family with whom he seems to have a bad relationship with, so even though i’ve tried to work out other details (his parents’ provenance for instance?) i can’t really elaborate on this. even if isaac’s knowledge on the topic is pretty scrambled (to put it nicely lol), he knows a lot about “the orient” as he puts it, and the “dian” surname is pretty unique so who knows!👀 i’ve only mentioned his father because isaac, too, has only mentioned his "old man” twice so far in the novels, if i’m not mistaken. in my opinion, it also speaks volumes how flustered isaac got when molsa apologized to him, because it was the first time someone older than him has done this. and this is pretty arbitrary, but if isaac started robbing and getting into trouble before he and miria even met and/or before he got kicked out/ran away from home, that whole deal about “being used to dealing with policemen” (in the unofficial translation i read back in the day it was something along the lines of “this isn’t my first time being interrogated by the police”) in 1934 would make sense, i guess, considering that miria didn’t realize what was going on at the moment even though she’s a fairly perceptive person.

anyways it’s too bad we don’t know that much about miria on this front, also!! i get the vague feeling that she might have also come from a wealthy family (probably not a good environment, though), since in 1935 it’s mentioned that the closest they’ve ever gotten to working/having a job was when they were digging for gold, apparently. that’s why i can’t really think of anything too specific regarding miria’s past and upbringing... i have a feeling that she might have felt alone, trapped and/or overwhelmed. let’s just hope that when she said her bruises would heal up fine with ice in 1935 it had nothing to do with this “i should have died” business :(((

- even though isaac and miria love their friends and would do anything for them, they aren’t particularly attached to anyone (or any place) besides each other.

this is more of an observation than a headcanon, but i find it really interesting: they would definitely do anything for their friends, and they do enjoy life very intensely, but that’s precisely why they don’t seem to be fixed in one singular spot? basically, i feel like they’re the personification of “home is where the heart is” taken to the extreme. they could go anywhere and do anything as long as they have each other, and they will never make any attempts to actively do things that make it easier to label their relationship, such as getting married, which is heavily implied by firo (i think) in 2002 bullet garden (i think!!). that’s also part of the reason why i’m sure they’d never find themselves commiting to things like taking care of a pet, or a child; it’s more like they instantly “adopt” everyone they run into, as if they’ve always been friends, even if they won’t meet again for months, years, or ever again. anyway, isaac and miria are extremely good and they are literally going to be happy together forever and ever! they don’t need to prove that.

that doesn’t mean they’re not sentimental, though! i like to think that they keep some meaningful objects that remind them of fond memories of their friends. and this is hardly canon because it shows up in the anime And in a background at that, but shoutout to the rocking toy horse in their california mine lol.

- miria knew about her own immortality (as well as isaac’s) before the 2000s.

THIS IS PROBABLY MY SPICIEST TAKE and i tried to back it up in the next point of this list. i still keep thinking i’m reading too much, into this but

i can’t stop thinking about the implications, folks

which brings us to:

- miria is smarter than isaac is and actually has a fairly good idea of when he’s making stuff up, but is happy to let him take the lead.

i won’t deny that isaac and miria dedicate a huge chunk of their day to doing moronic stuff, and they are pretty dumb, but i feel like people don’t give them enough credit for how perceptive they are. even though that’s true of the two of them, i feel like this mostly applies to miria.

among other things, we’ve learned that she knows ronny isn’t human and has supernatural powers (wow), which is why she comes to him for help after isaac’s arrest. she’s very good at paying attention to small details, such as the kind of programs ennis watches on tv, or chané’s feelings, when the two talk in 1934. miria also “really knows her way around japanese” and has been shown to --apparently?-- multiply large numbers in her head in 1935... while isaac was talking about how good of an idea it would be to use the martingale betting system. not to mention how isaac stated he “doesn’t know how to count money” earlier in this arc. my god ksdjgjks. i want to know what’s up with this, if anything.

so, yeah! there’s probably more stuff that i could mention, but i am exhausted lol. thank you for your patience anon, i have no idea how long this has been sitting in my inbox. always happy to get baccano questions <3 i apologize for any typos/errors and the like.

I’d like to make the point that the light god, the dude who killed Oz repeatedly and abused Salem to the point that she became the villainous being that we know today, is somehow on the “Heroes Wiki.”

You know, not like she demanded special treatment, tried going behind his back and tried to destroy him and his brother all because she demanded that the cycle of death not apply to who she wants.

Incorrectly might I add as both the Light and Dark gods are not portrayed as directly opposing each other. So you’re mad you ‘had’ to use a show’s meme...incorrectly.

Let’s get this out of the way for any of idiots out there: Salem was NOT responsible for Humanity 1.0′s death. She may have provoked these two asshats, but she wasn’t the one who

1: Loaded the gun.

2: Aimed the gun.

3: Fired the gun.

By the same logic, people say Yang murdered Adam. How does that go with you again?

What did Salem do?- She just stood up to them and, inadvertently, gave them a target.

She directly lied to the first iteration of humanity after being punished for lying to the gods and being directly told she shouldn’t have done that all over demanding her husband be brought back to life even though God knows how many people die and aren’t brought back by the gods despite having just as much reason to want them back as Salem.

As far as I’m concerned, these gods were the villains of the story, and what I wouldn’t give to see Yang punch one of them in the face.

When making these “Godly” characters, it’s okay to give them flaws. In fact, that’s what makes the Greek Gods, Norse Gods, Japanese Gods, and Egyptian Gods so interesting. They have flaws, weaknesses, and more relatable personality aspects that makes it seem like we could have the guy responsible for the ocean’s tides as our next door neighbor, or the adorable little dog across the street as the one responsible for the sun coming up… and beating up a fish in a giant mech suit. Goddamn, I want to play Okami again.

I got off-topic. The point is, is that it’s okay for these Gods to give flawed advice… Provided that they gave advice at all.

See, Light God was insensitive to Salem’s plight, and in all likelihood, used the same rhetoric that her father used to lock her up in that tower as an excuse to just brush her off.

Salem: (falling to her knees) Please... Please, bring him back to me.

God of Light: I understand your pain, but you demand of me that which I cannot make so. Life and death are part of a delicate balance.

Such terrible rhetoric.

BTW, funny how you mention the Greek Gods. You want to know what the role of most Greek Gods are in their home myths?

Living Embodiments of Punishing Pride.

Helena Of Troy’s mother, Narcassist and Echo, Odysseus, Arachne, Midas-

Most of the targets of the gods were people who dared to act arrogant and like they were better/deserved more with the Gods smiting them for their fatal sin. Even the Gods themselves weren’t exempt from this, as many of them fell prey to their own pride and arrogance with the few (mostly) unscathed Gods being that way because they were significantly less prideful. Fuck, the Greek Gods came to be because Chronos was so cocky he could just eat his kids that it never occurred to him that his wife Rhea would trick him.

In fact, an always noteworthy story I remember was the tale of Orpheus and Euradyice, where a man traveled to the Underworld using his musical talents and demanded to have his wife brought back to life. It ALMOST didn’t work but he was just able to convince Hades on the condition that he not turn back on his way home. Spoiler Alert, he did out of a lack of faith in Hades, his wife WAS following him but he lost her because of it.

I bring this up because the Greek Gods were the INSPIRATION for the Brothers and I’d bet dollars to donuts that Orpheus’ tale was the inspiration for Salem and Ozma. You try to act like you know something about these things but completely ignore that hubris, the thing that fucked Salem over, was a running theme in the source of her backstory.

So when Salem goes to Dark God, and he does fulfill her request, it’s honestly like Salem is now picking a side. Except, it turns out that Dark God actually has to answer to the Light God.

God of Light: I know we have our differences, but I have not come here with the aim to control you. The same, however, cannot said for her. This woman came to you only after I denied her pleas – pleas that would have disrupted the balance that you and I created. Together.

The younger brother ponders this revelation.

God of Darkness: Then it seems I owe you an apology. Allow me to correct my mistake.

No he doesn’t. But nice cut context.

Does the relationship between the gods seem… manipulative to anyone? Like… The Light God (Fuck it, let’s call him “Lumin” for now, I’m not typing out that whole thing) is abusive to his brother?

Considering what I quoted above- Nope.

Acording to… I think it was Qrow, possibly in a WOR, the Dark God (Let’s call him “Ebon” because that’s a badass name, and I’m honestly not in the mood for “Light = Good, Dark = Evil” to be the underlying theme here) made his creations first. then Lumin was all “I can make something too!” and made humans to one-up his brother.

RWBY Volume 4 Episode 8 “A Much Needed Talk”

Qrow: They were two brothers. The older sibling, the God of Light, found joy in creating forces of life. Meanwhile, the younger brother, the God of Darkness, spent his time creating forces of destruction. As you can imagine, they both had pretty different ideas about how things should go. The older one would spend his days creating water, plants, wildlife. And at night, his brother would wake to see all the things that the elder had made and become disgusted. To counteract his brother's creations, the God of Darkness brought drought, fire, famine, all he could do to rid Remnant of life. Life always returned. So one night, the younger brother went and made something - something that shared his innate desire to destroy anything and everything.

You misrepresent the show AND got it backwards. The God of Light created things first, then The God of Darkness and Humanity was a joint project.

Why should we consider you at all reliable, especially given how easy it would be to research this?

No in fact, The God of Darkness is kind of a jackass. But nice job portraying your delusions as the exact opposite dumbass.

But regardless of that relationship, Lumin basically acted like that one abusive parent who destroys all of the child’s toys just because they went to the other parent to do something that the first parent was callous in denying them to do. Sorry if that brought up any bad memories for people.

More like they took the toy away when the child tricked the other parent into buying it even though the first said no.

Not to mention the relics. Outside of their purpose to resummon the gods, they don’t really do much. But these are literal artifacts left behind by said gods.

Plus, Lumin give Oz an impossible task of uniting humanity. It’s like he wants Oz to fail because he just wants an excuse to wipe them all out again.

How is it impossible when Humanity was united BEFORE SALEM?

Lumin treats humankind as an “experiment gone wrong” as if he’s just playing with peoples’ lives for his own amusement. If anything, Ebon is more sympathetic because he actually listens to their problems and wants to help them out.

Yeah-

The God of Darkness created the Grimm that make Remnant such a horrible place to live and was the one that killed all of humanity.

God of Darkness: My own gift to them... used against me.

The God of Light looks away in disappointment as the God of Darkness squeezes the sphere within his hand, creating a massive shockwave that envelops the world, smiting everything and everyone in its path. Humanity has been turned to dust, only Salem remains due to her immortality.

How is he more sympathetic?

Meanwhile Lumin is all “Sucks that your man died. Now get out.” at best.

We get it- You’re delusional.

Let’s take a look at another set of flawed gods in the form of The Norse Pantheon. Namely, Odin, Loki, and Thor. In myth, these guys were all given tasks that were basically impossible. Thor was tasked with drinking the ocean, and failed. Odin wrestled with time, and was brought down. And Loki lost an eating contest to fire. These flaws and weaknesses in regards to their hubris are part of them.

Meanwhile, Apollo lost a love to Eros because he said that he couldn’t shoot as well as him but I guess you’d assume Eros was the bad guy.

I mentioned this briefly in my “Done dirty: Oz” post, but Oz was basically brought back to cause conflict. Because… I guess Lumin was bored?

Or you know- a second chance to have the gifts of the Brothers again.

But the narrative wants people to see that Lumin and Ebon are “All good. All caring. And all knowing.”

Which is a load of bullshit. The narrative tries to paint Salem as some unsympathetic witch who couldn’t let go. When…

1: The woman was abused and locked in a tower until Oz came to rescue her.

2: She was willing to fight God to get him back. If anything, that shows true love. If you want my opinion, if you’re not willing to deck a deity in the nose for your loved one, then you don’t care about them (Take that, Abraham. Willing to sacrificing your own son just because your God told you to. Bet you wouldn’t see that from Amaterasu).

1. Doesn’t matter. There have to be people living just as bad if not WORSE than Salem and lost loved ones- it’s literally the rules EVERYONE has to abide by.

2. No, she tried to fight two gods because she was pissy. She never tried to fight them until AFTER lying to the God of Darkness and lead people to their deaths. All in the name of a legendary HERO, someone who WOULDN’T want to be brought back after all this death.

What I’m saying is that these gods are detached. Which would be an interesting aspect if the narrative had bothered to show that as being a bad thing.

So were the Greek Gods. Not the point of either one.

Then again, this is all being told by Jinn, a creation of the Gods (Namely Lumin). So maybe there’s some bias in there where they’re trying to make Salem out to be irredeemable while the gods are the undisputed good guys- and holy SHIT!- Jinn’s in on the gaslighting.

i mean… I still want everyone to eventually realize that Salem was gaslighted into being the villain of the story. because that sounds way better than the “Abused woman lashes out and becomes evil” angle that they seem to be going at.

Funny thing there- You literally can’t redeem Adam OR Salem and keep the other evil without looking hypocritical because they committed the SAME FUCKING SINS.

But given the writers’ ability to handle racism (or lack thereof), I don’t exactly have a lot of confidence in this.

But they also looked into a lot of fairy tale aspects for their characters…
