danny and ivy are about the same age in my little version of a canon universe so they would call themselves twins. i never really defined either of the features i don’t think but for me personally i think of ivy as this feisty little blonde with a fuckass bob she pulls off SO well, constantly wearing pink and flowers just to turn around and destroy someone

and then danny i imagine him to be like a young josh hutcherson (bridge to terabithia era, maybe a bit younger) except w more prominent freckles and a bit darker hair

so anyways.

they don’t look alike at all so that’s what is so fucking hilarious about it but they’re like “we’re twins!!! best friends!!! brother and sister!!!”

clarisse doesn’t really care, she comforts danny as best as she can and tells him he doesn’t have to love it as long as he can protect himself so she has some piece of mind, she’s kinda confused as to why danny’s is technically ares’ kid but also like that’s her kid…. so she really don’t care

she definitely wasn’t born with that natural effortlessness that danny and clarisse have, but she works 10x as hard and absolutely loves the feeling of a sword in her hand she has the PASSION and that is much more important than natural ability tbh

anyways. every once in a while y’all will have sleepovers and you barely fit it’s hilarious… pretending that camp counselors once again have a room at the back with a slightly bigger bed

clarisse is in the middle, you’re on one side, danny on the other, and ivy is fully spread out sideways on top of y’all

ivy and danny are just walking around camp like they own it bc they do, clarisse is scary and will get them whatever they want bc the twins will flash puppy eyes at you who will then flash puppy eyes at clarisse and then she’s helpless 🤷‍♀️

+ As the self-proclaimed 'master of music', Dylan is always sharing songs with you. He gets so excited when he listens to something new and it makes him think of you, he has a long ass playlist of songs in your name.

+ He kinda dreads the serious stuff in relationships, he wants everything to stay upbeat and lighthearted.

+ This means you're probably gonna have to take the lead communication-wise, it makes him super uncomfortable to talk about his real feelings.

+ He's such a good support system, though! He appreciates the balance between you two and it affirms his belief that you two are "meant to be".

+ Good at hiding it, but he is riddled with anxiety most days. Some handholding and a couple kisses would help him a lot though (his words, not mine lol).

+ PDA makes him nervous!! He tries to put on a tough face but you really should go easy on him if you guys are in front of other people, even his friends.

+ While working at the camp together, he'll use up most of his energy trying to get you to goof off with him, it doesn't matter how hard you try to stay committed to your responsibilities, you always end up somewhere secluded with your hands all over him. This results in a lot of reprimanding from Chris and too much teasing from the counselors.

+ "I can understand young love, Dylan, but your job comes first! The kids are counting on you, your friends are, I am… blah blah blah"

+ Chris makes such crappy arguments you're leaving your cabin that night to meet up with Dylan again.

+ He loves the thrill from disobeying authority, it makes him feel like a carefree kid again. It's why he likes to tease you a lot! He just loves playing around and wants to make you laugh.

+ Speaking of playing, the kids at the camp see him as one of their own since he's one of the few counselors who will take full part in their shenanigans. It's pretty cute until you find yourself being targeted by a child army under Dylan's command.

+ Takes the most pride in his humor, he adores the sound of your laugh so he'll do anything to hear it again and again.

+ Not necessarily the jealous type, but he can feel threatened if he sees you laughing a lot at someone's jokes.

+ Absolutely loves that he's taller than you even if it's only by a couple inches, he'll take any opportunity to remind you just how small you are compared to him. His signature move is coming up behind you and stretching his big arms over your whole frame to get what you were reaching for.

+ If you're taller than him, he's constantly standing on his tippy toes to close the gap. He secretly likes being smaller than you because he's usually the biggest person in the room and this lets him take on a different role for once.

+ He wants you to take the lead when you two get intimate, despite the attitude he can catch with the others, he's always been more than eager to do whatever you tell him to.

+ He's really so sweet, he loves being good for you.

+ Dylan's also got that secret smart side he likes to keep tightly under wraps unless he gets to flex in front of you lol. He's can't help but get cocky when he sees how impressed you are with his random quantum physics facts/rants.

+ A man who needs a lot of reassurance. It's hard for him to believe you actually want to be with him considering the fake personalities he plays into in order to 'protect' himself.

+ Needs someone who can see him as he is, who really likes him for him and not the persona he created to get through his nervous start at the camp.

FINALLY getting around to answering these! since im better at them, heres some college age headcanons that apply just as much to how i view them in the show!

DIPPER PINES

transmasc. duh. of course

parents are INCREDIBLY supportive, super understanding. hes on hormone blockers in the show and starts HRT as soon as hes able, getting top surgery and bottom surgery in his early 20s

bisexual! ran into a guy junior year of highschool and went oh GOD. this is wendy 2.0 im going to die

NERD.

LOVES board games. so much. not just dungeons and dragons and monopoly im talkin everdell, wingspan, cascadia, catan. he loves a good think. he also loves dragging everyone else into playing them with him. he always wins. almost always, anyway

absolutely adores college and everything about it hes a little freak. totally ends up being the president of a few clubs, co creating some, etc. made an occult club AND a hiking club at his college

loves doodling, loves horror. his teachers? not so much. they try not to look at the weird ass creatures he draws on the margins of his very well written homework.

probably goes into something smart. like biochem. or um. stem. im (author) is a liberal arts major all i do is write gay fanfiction.

PSYCHOTIC ASS DORM ROOM. he barely decorated it like a classic college male but has a conspiracy board and thats it. which is full of strange shit hes seen outside of gravity falls. to be fair its very well documented and somewhat neat, just…. strange decor. he lives in a single (introvert)

COVERED in tattoos, but always abides by the suit rule (all tattoos need to be able to be covered by a suit to be professional. he knows this bc hes a neerrrrddd). he has really sick sleeves of runes and other occult like things hes found interesting. he has cipher related tattoos as well and also even got ford to design a few.

he has PROMINENT eye bags. he will never fix his sleep schedule

ended up working as a summer camp counselor for a while right outside if gravity falls! the kids loved him but he couldnt stand the heat and bugs all the time so he only did it for a summer or two

even after turning 21 he doesnt actually drink that much, hes a craft beer enjoyer and likes to make it himelf (Much later in life)

ALWAYS stays in touch with mabel. if anything happens in either of their lives you better BELIEVE theyre already on the phone with eachother

medical marijuana card holder

smokes to help eith his anxiety. it works WONDERS

coffee drinker but actually Does put cream and sugar is coffee. sometimes. other times hes too tired and just thugs it out

MABEL PINES

NUMBER ONE TRANS ALLY EVERRRRRR she loves her brother so much

pansexual!! she loves cool people, thats her motto

went to a fashion design school, is loving it despite drowning in work

began dying her hair in cool ways through highschool, now she always has some of her natural color present but goes a little crazy on the highlights

found out about huge dangley joke earrings. went absolutely crazy. has an entire space on her desk dedicated to her many many earrings. she has babies, knives, bags of doritos, aliens, glow in the dark ones, anything you could imagine.

fantastic at fashion design. stuggled a lot with the fancier stuff but her teachers were floored when they let her go wild on casual comfy wear. she excells in combining fashion and comfort in really exciting and colorful ways.

a party girl through and through, loves clubs, raves, concerts, anything!

video game lover as well, cracked at pvp games.

still boy crazy, just less so (has had like. 10 college boyfriends)

literally the sweetest friend ever. she loves hosting movie nights and tea parties (bc who wouldnt. theyre awesome)

tea drinker, loves floral teas with honey

HATES. black coffee. a starbucks frap girlie 4ever

has been scouted for modeing multiple times and only accepted when it was a commercial with puppies

love love loves making friendshio bracelets. knows all the patterns, all of her friends have a hefty amount of a bunch of different ones because she just keeps making them

HAPPY END OF KINKTOBER! UWUSILLYGIRL'S BIG HUGE THANK YOU POST!

hi!!!!

first and foremost, i'd love to thank everyone for such a fabulous kinktober. i was tentative about doing something within the community; i was worried no one would participate, or i would be organizing an event "wrong", or that people would feel limited by my prompts and suggestions. you all made sure that absolutely NONE OF THESE FEARS WERE WARRANTED! everyone came with the COOLEST shit.

here is a brief collection of some of my personal favorites; either just stunningly written, fascinatingly done, or personally my cup of tea (and i will not tell you which is which! lmao!)

A SHORT LIST OF SOME FANTASTIC PIECES (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER):

@aicosu's "KNOCK KNOCK": oxy-addicted, adhd, dopamine hole eddie and fastidious, nerdy, ex-fundamentalist chrissy meet at the glory hole of a seedy sex arcade. visceral, headachey, and so hot.

@staceymcgillicuddy's whole series was awesome, but i LOVED their "humiliation + bladder control" prompt especially. nasty and mean!

@jewelledfoxes' also had banger after banger, but i really loved their bottoming from the top prompt, "i'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck" .

the anonymously posted "if loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right": the most charming, sweetest little take on hybristophilia a girl has ever seen! chrissy sees eddie being very evil and bad (read as: harmless graffiti) and is simply swept away by his raw criminality. so cute, soft, silly, fantastic.

@chrissy-n-eddie's "Bottom Bunk", a one-shot using "gender bend" and "spit" to give the CUTEST DAMN SAPPHIC CAMP COUNSELOR PUSSY EATING FIC TO EVER EXIST MAYBE EVER? THEY'VE GOT SUNBURNED NOSES! THEY'RE IN LITTLE YELLOW T-SHIRTS!

@bettercraic went big-brained as all hell with their jonathan/nancy/eddie/chrissy voyuerism installment, "let's make a team". quick and sexy.

@erythromanc3r wrote this mean and insane and nasty one-shot, "kiss me where you bruise me" that is the hottest anything ever. you're never gonna guess what i loved about it (kidding. you will. it's mean.)

FINALLY! i would like to thank those who stuck to THEIR OWN HARD LIMITS, CREATED WHOLE SERIES, OR WANTED TO DO SOMETHING ELSE! we had some people make whole cohesive (@hunter-gatherer-stuff) stories, we had some people come in and write about pimple popping, we had people write shit (@badlydrawnlips) based on my own indulgent little kink dynamics (sorry, couldn't not mention that one... so baller), and best of all, we had people write their own stuff when the prompts were not for them. that made my heart so happy.

A FINAL PERVERT'S NOTE:

if you are working on a kinktober series that's gonna take more time, if you have prompts in process that you suddenly have the urge to finish, if you wake up in a cold sweat on december 3rd and just NEED to write about spit, fucking do it and tag it. i love you so much. every day is kinktober if you are a true pervert. take your time, love your life, remember that fanfiction (like art in general!) should be an enjoyable effort and made under your own rules!

Okay but theoretically if HSMTMTS season 4 is set around fall 2020 then does that mean that Ashlyn and Maddox are now college/ out of HS gfs?

Like Imagine Maddox is still working as a P.A. For Quinn and Ashlyn is studying acting at whatever the big Salt Lake college is and they have a dog and EJ is now working as a T.A. for Miss Jenn or another teacher at East High and Emmy’s in senior year now so she’s still doing musicals with Miss Jenn.

Ricky and Gina are obviously headliners for Quinn’s projects because after Mack left who else was gonna play Romeo? But Quinn likes their chemistry. Ricky still claims to have never seen a musical despite now having been in three.

And seb and Carlos are now making long distance work, off and on, because Carlos got sort of Scouted for his choreo skills and went from helping smaller theatre companies with their choreo to working with Broadway shows, so sometimes when Carlos is really busy with a project Seb will travel back to salt lake to help with his families farm and visit.

(I didn’t give Seb a Job because I can’t think of what he’d do. He’s just too like “sweet boy oblivious” and I don’t know what to do with him. But he has a good time for sure.)

Kourtney and Jet are planning to move in together after Kourtney graduates from Louis (Lewis?), but until then they do weekend visits when they can, sometimes to Lewis , sometimes to salt lake, and Jet perpetually follows Maddox and Ashlyn around bc he doesn’t know what to do with himself without Kourtney. They pretend to be annoyed but they secretly find it hilarious and endearing.

Big Red and Antoine got together officially after Big Red gets him to admit he’s not French to the rest of the Drama Dept. and that he’s sorry for causing trouble. Big red and Carlos also become friends again in the same way they were before after Seb and Carlos get back together, and it has a lot to do with how fond he actually is of Big Red bc he knows he’s not a bad guy. (I need this to be more than a HC because I still cannot believe they ruined his and sebs characters like that for the drama.)

During the Summers Maddox works at Shallow Lake as a full fledged counselor alongside Dewey wood because she just loves camp so much and she’s still Dewey’s favorite camper. Val helps when she can but she’s got a full job as a psychologist and doesn’t have the same flexibility as Maddox does with Quinn. EJ is a counselor too bc he gets time off in the summers being a teachers assistant and all. He spends his summers following Maddox around when he gets free time and missing Val when she’s not there. Maddox gets having feelings for Val but if she hears “Val used to call me EJ” one more time-

EJ and Val are still going strong and EJ is making plans to propose to her once his teaching Job is finally sorted out and he isn’t just a trainee anymore. (This is just cause EJ needs a win.)

(Also, when Maddox is away at camp, Jet and Ashlyn hang out. They usually do movie nights which consist of Ashlyn sharing her favorites, and Jet sharing his. Jet really likes Spider-Man, Night At The Museum, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Ashlyn likes Grease, anything with Bette Midler in it, and the Spiderwick movies.) (they also watch baking shows together and yell at the screen when the contestants mess up their bakes when times running out)

Miss Jenn and Mr.Mazzara are the IT teacher couple at East High. This goes on for a about a year before Principle Gutierrez says that they either need to be married or someone has to quit bc it’s not in accordance with the schools policy. They have a small gathering that ends with Karaoke at the bowling alley. All of the Drama kids attend, and they finally meet Miss Jenns mother from all of her increasingly concerning stories.

Ricky’s mom and dad get back together, and they squash the divorce stuff. They are now happier than ever. (Ricky also might need a win idk)

Nini has a thriving music career. She’s just as successful as Olivia is irl.

Oh! And Natalie Bagley is ruling the world or something. That feels like something she would do. Maybe she’s president.

it was counselor free time, and obviously you had to spend it with emma. she was your best friend, plus you loved her energy and how she could just be so positive and sunny. she confided in you one day that her confident, unafraid persona was just a front, and you two became even closer. your first thought was to look in the theater, since she was assigned to it. you opened the doors and there she was, instructing people who were holding props and carrying them in their respective areas. even some of the kids were helping.

you walked up to emma, and tapped her on her shoulder. she looks over at you, and smiles.

“aah, (y/n)! you weren’t supposed to see this until it was finished! buuuuut since you’re already here, i suppose i could fill you in on what’s going on.” she exclaims.

“oh, yes, please do. that would be marvelous.” you responded while watching everyone set some of the stuff up.

“it’s a play! i figured since i’m the theater coach, it’s only fair to do so!” she did a twirl of excitement. “also, you’re the lead role!”

“i’m not necessarily opposed,” you slowly turned your head towards her beaming face. she was so pretty when she was excited.

“good! you better not be, i spent an entire month writing the script!”

you laughed and asked, “alright, alright, now what part am i playing?”

she explains your role and the deadline to memorize your lines, she also explains that she and the other 8 counselors all had parts in the play, some of the kids did too. she didn’t let you know anyone’s part, though, because she wanted to keep it a surprise. but she did let you know that she told the other counselors that it was for the kids, which made them oblige.

the night of the play...

“can you please tell me who the love interest is gonna be? i got my parts completely memorized, everything’s set up properly, i did everything you asked; i even wore this stupid costume!” you spoke, frustrated but laughing at the same time.

“hey, watch it. i made that costume, in case you forgot. plus, it looks good on you. you’re welcome.”

emma was also in a costume, and it suited her well.

“oookay, places everyone! the show’s about to start!” she quickly ran off to get into her position.

everyone was seated in the chairs of the auditorium, ready to watch, and your scene was the very first one. the scene included you calling in your love interest to the stage. after all of the waiting, you were excited to see who it was going to be.

you walked onto the stage when given the cue, and called out for the “love of your life”. when they came, it was quite literally the love of your life.

which was...

it took a lot of convincing from emma to get abi to be your love interest for the play

she kept overthinking what you would say, she thought you’d judge her

but she couldn’t deny emma’s puppy dog eyes, and she most definitely didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to be with you

she was very very shy at first, so you secretly exchanged some encouraging words which made her smile and boosted her confidence

when the scene was over, you told her how great she did and she could not stop beaming

she repeatedly tells you how hard and fast her heart is beating

you let her know she did great, and she had to resist the urge to kiss you (she would never initiate it because she’s too scared of being rejected)

so of course, emma being the little sneaky devil she is, added a kiss scene as the ending scene of the play

poor abi’s face was red when it was time

you both went through with it

the kiss was soft and sweet

and the audience clapped

when you two pulled away, abi was so so soooo shy

she took your hand and led you off-stage, where you two would confess to each other and become official

...nick!

now how emma got nick to be your love interest was a set-up.

she made a bet with him, saying that if you slept in today, he’d have to be in her play (she told you to sleep in the night before)

so now he’s here

she didn’t tell him you were gonna be his love interest, so when he sees you he almost explodes

he stutters on his words a little bit, and you nod to let him know he’s doing great

soon enough, he becomes bold and confident

he flirts with you his character flirts with yours with ease as he’s no longer afraid

you take this as your chance to be bold as well, which flusters him

of course emma makes you kiss at the end, so when it’s time he stares at you

it’s only when you nod and let him know it’s okay to kiss you that he actually does

the kiss was sweet and gentle, as if he was scared to hurt you

and everyone clapped

after the play was over, nick visited your cabin and then confessed to you, and you reciprocated the action

nick smiled to himself while going to bed that night

oh goodness

all emma had to do for him was tell him you’d be the love interest and he signed up immediately (its not like he had a choice)

when he came on stage, he was so dramatic but you gave him the most adoring look and when he saw your face he literally melted

after seeing how sweet you looked when he was being silly, he kept doing so, and the audience loved him!

he was so ready for the kiss scene that he almost rushed his parts so the scene could hurry up and arrive

he made sure to practice his parts a lot because he didn’t wanna embarrass you

emma shook her head watching him, but smiled when she saw the way he looked at you and how you looked at him

he arrives with full blown confidence, so you don’t need to boost his ego

when the kiss scene arrives, he whispers “finally”

jacob was prepared for this moment but hesitated because he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable so you just kissed him

the kiss was energetic and you both couldn’t stop smiling

when the audience was clapping is when he confessed

you confessed too

and you left the auditorium holding hands

now you were definitely not expecting this

ryan saw your stunned face and gave you a look that said “i know, i’m shocked too”

emma asked him to join and he said “only if (y/n)’s in it” as a joke

emma took it seriously.

and here he is now

you couldn’t help but laugh, and he almost thought you were laughing at him

that was until you winked at him and motioned him to come closer

he tried to be expressive, but failed

he wasn’t good at acting. like at all.

but that’s okay, because the audience loved him anyway

you smiled at him the entire time, and he couldn’t help but smile back

ryan’s a little anxious because he’s never done this before, so you should boost his ego (he deserves it)

when the kiss scene arrives, he kinda freezes

you had to kiss him because he was beginning to chicken out

the kiss was soft and impassioned

the audience clapped

he only confessed when you two were alone

you confessed as well

and listened to his podcast whilst sitting next to each other, your head resting on his shoulder

I just saw this poll that was apparently the product of a debate among non-Americans as to whether or not summer camp is real. Americans were supposed to select one of several answers describing how real it actually is and what their direct experience is with it (like "I've been to one" or "I've heard of them but never known anyone who went"), as if to prove their claim. One option suggested it was only for rich people. Never in my life did it occur to me that the reality of summer camp was up for debate, but I also never thought about the economics of it. As a kid I was just glad I didn't have to go; forced-fun is really hard on me still, I hate even friendly competitions because I am literally incompetent, and I couldn't imagine being in a situation where I wouldn't ever be alone for days or weeks at a time. We had to go to band camp, which was just a day thing at school for a month or so, and I'm sure that was a combination of our parents just wanting to get rid of us and also wanting us to have extracurriculars on our record. But it never occurred to me that proper sleepaway summer camp was out of our price range, probably because wealthiness was not part of the cliche of summer camp.

Like, the 1980s was the era of a film subgenre called snobs versus slobs, a prime example of which is the movie MEATBALLS, which pits kids at a working class summer camp against the rich jerks at a much ritzier camp nearby; the stereotypical vision was that summer camp is for everyone, but the rich people versions are less wholesome, farther away from the American-as-apple-pie camp experience god intended. I also recall a Saturday morning cartoon called Camp Candy, in which John Candy was the beloved counselor of an earnest little camp that was under threat from a rich developer--again here, money is the enemy of the salt of the earth, egalitarian decency of summer camp. ERNEST GOES TO CAMP involves scrappy juvenile delinquents at a camp that is antagonized by a greedy strip mining corporation, so money is only a theme insofar as "camp" represents something common and honest that is antithetical to contaminating wealth. The standard summer camp narrative is most often about underdogs trying to save something they love, and not about rich people either finding their souls or getting their comeuppance (unless they're the bad guys who are generally not "real", sincere campers). Personally, my closer cultural connections are with FRIDAY THE 13TH and SLEEPAWAY CAMP, which take place in rural New Jersey; nowhere is there the idea that Jason Voorhees' mom was rich, and although there's evidence of wealth regarding the first family you meet in SLEEPAWAY CAMP, the prevailing image is not of snotty prep school students, but of regular, somewhat coarse suburban kids who don't mind skinning their knees and getting their hands dirty and eating cafeteria slop dished out by a filthy pervert.

I do get the idea (just now, from searching the internet) that summer camp is exorbitantly expensive nowadays due to inflation (and probably escalating greed, just like with everything else), but even though it can involve room and board etc for days or weeks, I never acquired the prejudice that camp in general was only for the upper crust, like I'd assume about ski school or uh sailing lessons or I don't know what. And I mean there's a lot of stuff like that in mainstream media, where e.g. blue collar families have homes and possessions that are WAY too nice, or something like that. It's just something film and TV creators do to make things more inviting and less depressing, I think, and that can skew popular conceptions of how expensive certain things actually are. But I'm looking at a Reddit right now confirming my perception that versions of summer camp were available to middle class Americans in the 1960s-80s, and that the idea that the price tag of it would compete with college tuition is pretty recent. But it's still funny to me how often I see people on here assuming that if they've never personally experienced something, no matter how often they've heard of it, then it's probably not real. That's some protagonist syndrome shit right there. Just because you've seen an artificially enhanced version of something on TV doesn't mean it's a fake idea contrived to make an idiot out of you. You can do that all by yourself.

HI!! that's a complicated question because it really depends on who you are and what your needs are. kids are adorable and hilarious and i find their company extremely fulfilling, but they're also LOUD and EXHAUSTING, and you need to have a certain tolerance for screaming, grabbing, bluntness, and (if you work with toddlers like me) the occasional poopy situation. if you have sensory issues like me, I'd strongly recommend establishing a set time and place to recharge every day, (or even bringing headphones if you're able to) and setting clear boundaries, like "my body needs space right now," "i don't like being touched there, thank you," etc. (which also teaches them consent/setting their own boundaries as a bonus). if you've never really worked with kids before, you might look for opportunities to substitute, or even volunteer at libraries and whatnot to get a sense of how it feels for you. i feel like everyone remembers a teacher from their childhood who just hated their job and made it everyone's problem, so don't be that person. i guess what I'm trying to say is that it's important to put your wellbeing first, or you'll be miserable, and that will rub off on the kids.

personally, i love how kids are naturally curious and blunt. they will just say whatever. and it IS extremely exciting and fulfilling to watch them learn and grow in real time, because they absorb information SO FAST. it's important to be observant and patient and non-judgmental and kind, because they WILL emulate your behavior. every single day I'm delighted and surprised by one of them saying something sweet out of nowhere, supporting or comforting a friend, resolving a conflict on their own, pronouncing a word like CRUSTACEAN that's way beyond their usual reading level, or randomly asking to hold my hand or sit on my lap when they've never done that before....

HOWEVER. do not tell my employers i said this, but I'd eventually like to work with slightly older kids, like 6-8 year olds, because i feel like that's the age range where they've kind of had a chance to develop personalities and hobbies and interests (beyond favorite colors and animals and whathaveyou), and they're starting to learn how to make jokes and insult people but they just go about it in the funniest way possible. and their imaginary games have extended plotlines, and theyll sometimes just decide to write an entire comic book or movie script in an afternoon. and you can actually hold a conversation with them, wheras toddlers will often just lose interest and walk away if they don't immediately grasp something. you also have to be very direct with toddlers, which is something I'm still getting used to just because i really dislike talking down to people of any age or size. like do NOT get me wrong, i LOVE my 3-5 year olds, but i do miss babysitting 8 year olds from time to time. and age is something to consider, again, especially if you're squeamish about bathroom stuff. *shudders and stares off into the distance*

anyways that was probably a way longer answer than you wanted and just a bunch of nonsense words. tl;dr the answer is Yeah. If you want. ❤️

finding your blog has inspired me to do this during my gap year. I'm not enjoying school atm so I'm hoping to catch break from academics and jobshadow or work as a junior camp counsellor. i'd love to know more about your story. also, do you have any tips or advice?

Hi friend, that's awesome! I totally understand not enjoying school and really wish I'd taken a gap year at several points.

My story is that I grew up in Girl Scouts and did a lot with it. I moved for college but worked at my childhood day camp for two summers. I also ran events for my local council while I was in college as part of a student group. Then, in winter 2014-15, I realized I wasn't happy in my path and applied for a job as a curriculum writer. Then I applied for summer camp and became the CIT (counselors in training) director. The next summer I was the director (long story) and then did two summers as assistant director while I was in grad school.

When I graduated, my current job became available. I applied and was hired. I've been in this position ever since. I run events, support parents and volunteers, work with the community, and more. The blog encompasses both camp stuff and my work stuff (as well as some random stuff from my life).

I have tons of tips, and they're in a variety of tags. One is my tips and tricks tag, which I've included on this one. Camp asks is another one, because those are all the questions that people have asked over the years. Some top tips are:

Take care of yourself. You can't pour from an empty cup.

You will get better the longer you do something, including being a camp staff. Your first year won't be perfect, but do your best.

Kids come first when you're on duty. Like, don't neglect your basic needs, but also you are responsible for them and need to act like it.

Every kid is different and has something they bring to the group. It's your job to bring that out.

Will Solace x Nico Di Angelo

Warnings: Angst/comfort, mentions of negative self image, and also infirmary stuff!

Will was tired to say the least, as the head counselor of the Apollo cabin he had a lot on his plate. Not only did he have to help out the new Apollo children but also the current ones. He felt like a mom at times, struggling to stop all her kids from accidentally dying. Oh and he also was one of the head healers at the infirmary. He spent all his time helping others but no one ever really helped him. Of course he had friends and of course he had his siblings but none of them ever really picked up on his stress or negative thoughts. The dark circles under his eyes went unnoticed as well as the constant yawning.

Will had managed to get away from the busy day he was having. Opting to chill near the strawberry fields. He even picked a few to snack on, safe to say he knew this break wouldn't be long. Camp Half-Blood seemed to have a dramatic increase in new campers, Will didn't understand how the gods could have so many kids all the time, this meant that he had a lot more to do. A Lot more people to show around, explain things to, and also a lot more children that end up injuring themselves.

He always kicked himself mentally when he sighed at the new campers asking him for help. He was supposed to be a bright eyed, happy-go-lucky Apollo kid. Yet he wasn't happy, he was stressed and in a constant state of self loathing. Will felt water drops on his hands, looking up at the sky he saw it was still bright and sunny out. He was crying. In the middle of the Strawberry fields. He felt stupid. He was fine and a little work wasn't the end of the world. He tried to find the motivation to get up and go back to the infirmary but he couldn't. He couldn't stand the thought of going back to the bloody noses, and the bruises, and the whining.

He didn't want to. He just wanted to stay put in the fields. Streams of tears came out of his eyes, the stress of everything was too much. He put his head against the tree he was sitting next to and let himself cry. This was fine, he was fine. No one was around anyways.... Or so he thought.

"Hey you okay Sunshine?" Will knew whos voice it was. Nico Di Angelo, a child of Hades and someone Will was quite enamored with. Will quickly wiped his face, "Yeah, I'm great... It's just really hot out, some sweat got in my eyes." Will resonded sheepishly. He wasnt trying to lie to Nico, he just didnt want to burden him with his problems. "You sure? Cause from where I'm standing it seems like you are hiding in the strawberry fields crying..." Nico sat down next to Will. Will looked at Nico, who was wearing some black jeans and a black shirt (He never wore his camp half blood shirt) with a skull on it. He gave Nico a small smile, "I'm just stressed I guess...". Nico nodded and looked around the camp. Everyone was doing their own thing, they didn't notice the pair at all. "You do alot for the camp, I'm not suprised you're stressed. You should talk to Chiron about some time off or something..." Nico's suggestion was nice but Will couldn't stand the thought of not being useful. He didn't want to be dead weight. "I'm fine. I just...." Will couldnt find the words he was going to say. Nico faced Will and gave him a concerned look. "Please stop overworking yourself. It's not healthy and you're supposed to be a doctor or whatever..." Nico joked with the blonde. "I'm not a doctor, I'm just a kid they put in charge of the health of countless other kids..." Will sighed. "Yeah, but you're damn good at your job, Solace." Nico's compliment made Will's cheeks burn. "Thanks..." Will looked away from Nico trying to hide his blush.

A horn could be heard in the distance, it was dinner time. Will sighed, he would have to go back to everyone, put on a smile and pretend all over again. The moment with Nico was just a moment. It wasn't permanent. "Guess it's time to eat..." Will sat up and got on his own two feet. "Thanks for talking to me Nico." He started to walk away until he felt a hand grab his wrist. "Wait... You can sit with me if you'd like. The hades table is always empty..." Will smiled at Nico and nodded his head. "Yeah, I'd like that alot Nico." Nico gave Will a small smile and closed the distance between them, wrapping his arms around Will. Nico had his head against Will's chest considering he was a few inches shorter than Will.

Once again tears threatened to leave Will's eyes, but for a different reason this time. He returned Nico's hug and placed his chin atop of his head. The two stayed there for a few minutes. Just enjoying the embrace of the other. That night at dinner Nico and Will talked on and on about everything. Nico even convinced Will to talk to Chiron about his stress. Safe to say there were a lot more moments in the strawberry fields for Will and Nico.

“y/n, you have no idea how nice it is to just sit down and hang out with you! i feel like we haven’t really done this since you were at least, 11, when you first started babysitting dusty and the boys!” dustin’s mother beamed at you.

“claudia, you are honestly so right! i’ve just been so busy all the time, you know when i’m not with the kids and stuff.” you said sweetly, finishing the glass of lemonade she handed you.

“oh! sweetheart let me take that for you.” claudia said, about to get up.

“no, no, i’ve got it! you just relax, it seems like you’re always doing everything! i mean when’s the last time you had like, i don’t know, a vacation of sorts!” you inquired, taking her empty glass to the sink as well.

“you’re so sweet dear, really!” she sighed.

to give context, you had been sat at the henderson house for about an hour now, in all honesty you could’ve just asked her when you first got there, or even over the phone! it’s just that you thought it’d be good to check up on her, anyways, so you figured why not kill two birds with one stone.

“actually! speaking of a vacation,” you turned to face her, leaning against the sink. “did dustin tell you that i’m going away at the end of this week?” you asked her.

“oh! no, why? is it something for college?” she inquired.

“no, i’m actually going to be a summer camp counselor this year! i’m shocked he didn’t tell you! being that he wanted to go and all.” you snuck in at the end.

“really? he didn’t say anything about it..” claudia trailed off.

“probably just too nervous to ask you! what with everything that was going on a few months ago…well here’s the flyer! steve and nancy are actually coming too! and two of our other friends.” you said handing it to her.

“the wheeler’s are going? well, i’ll talk to dusty about it when he gets home. tell him that he can start packing and things like that! i’m sure he’ll be real excited.” she beamed.

“so you’ll let him come? oh that’s great! now, i don’t know how the cabin and counselor system will work, but just you know that i’ll keep an eye on him.” you beamed back at her, making her nod.

“oh! it’s already 4?! time just flys by talking to you, huh?” she said getting up, mumbling about preparing for her bridge club meeting, being soon.

“well i’ll get out of your hair then! and could you tell dustin to call me when he gets a chance?” you asked sweetly.

“sure, dear. have a good day!” claudia called out.

convicing karen wheeler wasn’t too difficult, being that not only you were going, but nancy and steve as well? great!

now the only real issue was mike. when you originally spoke to the kids about it, not only did mike think you wouldn’t be able to make his mother relent, but he also was pretty adamant on not going, anyways. hence why right now, you were standing in the wheeler’s basement going back and forth with him.

“y/n, i’m not going to your stupid summer camp!” mike groaned as he plopped down on the couch.

“but- you said that if i could convince your mother you’d go!” you complained.

“well, i guess i lied then! besides i need to stay here with el!” he replied, getting off the couch just as quickly as he sat, and started pacing around, just wanting this conversation to be over.

“oh my actual gosh! mike you’re the worst sometimes , you know that?!” you groaned out in frustration, before realizing what he said. “besides, el’s going too!” you slyly added.

“please, you’re trying to tell me that you got hopper to let her go?” he scoffed, crossing his arms, and standing in front of you.

“not yet, but you know i’ll be able to.” you scoffed back, crossing your arms and standing up too.

“it’s too dangerous! why would you want to do that! you want her to get hurt or something?!” he started to yell and- hell no you’re not about to take it.

“okay you know what michael, sit down!” you exclaimed using your “babysitter voice™”

“oh please, i’m not 9 anymore, that’s not gonna work on m-“

“sit!” you yelled.

he dropped himself back on the couch, pouting like a child. well at least he sat ��🏾‍♀️

“mike,” you took a deep breath, trying to calm down. “you know me, and you damn well how i am, right?”

he nodded slowly, looking at his lap.

“mike, look at me, i have, and i always will, protect and defend you kids with my life, and you know that.”

he tried to hide his smirk, as he remembered the time that you made one of his bullies in elementary school, piss his pants, after the kid threw his entire lunch tray on him, hurting him in the process. the kid got away with it by the school, because he pleaded and pleaded that “it was an accident!”, and “apologized”.

but when 14 year old you, walked to pick the boys up from school that day, you knew it was no accident. so you made mike, point out the kid who did it, leaving the boys to watch on the sidewalk, as you marched up to him, got in his face calmly whispering something, as the kid looked more and more terrified the more you spoke, before he burst into tears, running up to mike, apologizing profusely, then running away to god knows where. mike always wondered what you said to that kid, but you never told him..

“ha! see, you’re smiling which means, yes! you know that i wouldn’t let anything happen to you guys and i certainly won’t let anything happen to el!” you calmly said sitting in front of him, on the floor.

“fine. if you can convince hopper to let el go, then i’ll go too.” he relented.

“ahh i knew you wanted to go mikeyy.” you teased, getting up. “now give me a hug, now that we’re friends again!” you joked, being that you used to make the boys do that when they were younger and would argue with each other.

“ew, no way! i’m too old for that crap!” he tried getting off the couch, and walking past you, until you pulled him into a hug anyways. he didn’t want you to know that he was actually kinda comforted by being hugged in a non-life-threatening situation for once.

“alright, i won’t torture you anymore. don’t start packing last minute, kid.” you said, letting him go and walking towards the basement stairs.

“you didn’t even convince him yet!” mike yelled out to you, referring to hopper.

“you know i will though!” you called back, saying bye to nancy, who was packing in her room, and mrs. wheeler, mr. wheeler and holly, as you passed them making your way out of the house.

as you settled into your car, and began driving to the sinclair house, your walkie crackled to life, dustin’s voice came through it repeating your name frantically, asking if you were there.

“hey dustin, i copy, what’s up.” you asked, hoping nothing was wrong.

“are you a witch? or an enchantress or something?” he asked incredulously, as he was currently in his room, looking for what he should pack for camp.

“only in dnd.” you joked. “i’m assuming you’ve spoken to your mother then, i told you i could do it.” you chuckled, turning onto the sinclair’s street, and parking in front of their house.

“i just don’t understand how.” he replied.

“yeah, me either.” max said, tuning in as well. “my mom came home from the grocery store, and just told me not to start packing for camp too late, so you’ve definitely got something going on with you y/n/n.” she said sarcastically.

“that was actually a coincidence.” you said honestly. “alright, i’m at lucas and erica’s house now. over and out.”

you hopped out of the car, praying that your charm and credibility as a babysitter, would be enough to convince them.

back in your car, on the way to the byers house

the sinclair’s were a success ! you’re not sure how you did it! but you did, and that’s all that matters, now going to joyce before hopper was completely on purpose.

see, if joyce says yes, then before you even get to hopper tomorrow (because you’re too tired for any more of this today and you’re sure that convincing joyce may take a little longer than the other parents did.) he’ll already know about it, and you’ll either just have to do a little coaxing or not even have to do anything but deal with his grumbling !

you pull up to the byers house, get out, and knock on the door. thankfully will opens it, already knowing you were coming.

“hey y/n” he greeted you with a hug.

“heyy will, is she busy?” you asked, hugging him back. as you two walked into the house together.

“not really, she’s in a good mood, and she’s watching reruns of cagney and lacey, in the living room.” he said.

“alright, did you tell her about me going?” you asked, as you two peeled around the corner and spied her laughing at something happening on the screen.

“yeah, i even gave her the flyer and everything, but she caught on and just said that she’d need to lay down some ground rules with you, if i really wanted to go.” he winced.

“yeah, your mother’s smart, well! wish me luck kiddo. and maybe even watch and learn.” you whispered, straightening up and walking into the living room.

“hi, joyce, i hope it’s okay that will let me in?” you asked.

“y/n , you have a key. and you know that you’re allowed here anytime.” she replied sweetly, looking at you and patting the spot next to her for you to join her.

as you did, she started talking again.

“so about this summer camp, i’m sure you already convinced the other parents, except hopper, and i really want will to have a normal time for once. so i’ll let him go…” she got straight to the point.

“that’s great! but..” you urged her to say what else was on her mind.

“no buts! he can go.” she said nonchalantly, shrugging her shoulders, turning her attention back to the t.v.

you were still staring at her, waiting for her to say what she was thinking, and you didn’t wait long because a mere 12 seconds later-

“however-“ she said pausing the t.v. and turning to face you again, making you laugh.

“is there anyway you can work your magic, and make sure he ends up with one of you kids, and not just some random counselor?” she asked, wringing her hands together.

“yeah, i’ll check the list and if so i’ll do something about it.” you nodded.

“great! then i guess i’ll call hopper and tell him about it, you know, make it a little easier on you.” she smiled, turning back to the t.v.

“ohh thanks joyce! you’re a life saver. alright well i’ll see you. have a goodnight!” you told her, giving her a hug and leaving the couch.

as you walked back to the front door, you fist bumped, will and told him not to start packing last minute.

“i don’t get how you do it, but i just hope i’m that good with parents that day.” he joked, walking you to you car.

“yeah, i’m sure you will be, whoever you end up dating’s parents will just love you.” you joked back, getting into your car, and starting your way back home.

i am average height (5'4 or 162 cm), i am american, and i dream of writing movies, specifically sports movies. i love formula one, but soccer is where my heart lies. i specifically love watching european soccer. i love la liga and the rivalry between real madrid and fc barcelona. my family is from spain, and southern europe. i speak spanish, french, am currently learning portuguese, and hope to one day speak italian. i have a deep love for learning languages.

i have to main sides of my personality, on one side i enjoy my alone time, im a sensitive girl, and i really like reading, a bit of knitting, journalism, and watching tv. relaxing stuff like that. on the other side, i love talking with people, working out, partying, and music. im also an utter foodie, and currently studying journalism in miami. in relation to that i love the beach, and i get slightly sad in winter (obviously since i live in miami i don't experience that as much, but i used to live in a cold place).

ive worked with kids a bit, and adore sweet children, and hate bratty ones (yes you shouldn't hate children but i was a camp counselor). i think i love animals more, and i realy enjoy seeing new places. i do have a bit of expensive taste, and i enjoy the feeling of working hard and earning something (i do like being slightly spoiled of course, what girl doesn't).

Honestly, the new Helluva Boss episode was…not terrible, but I think had some misplaced priorities. Both in the characters and production-wise.

My big edit is that the A and B plots should’ve been flipped. I would’ve way rather had this serve as a big jumpstart to the no doubt long-standing conflict between Blizø and Barbie Wire. They didn’t even need to show what their big fight and split was all about — just some flashbacks to their closeness as kids, some stuff from the circus, and ideally a bit of an idea how Blitzø’s visits while Barbie was in rehab usually went.

So, yeah, that’s the big thing. Barbie and Blitz was the more interesting conflict with more narrative importance and should’ve been treated as such this episode.

The other big problem…for an episode that supposedly focused on Millie, it felt like way too much time was spent on Moxxie’s self pity and self consciousness. Obviously those problems have always been there for him and won’t disappear entirely overnight, but this was such a juvenile kind of frustration and jealousy that it felt pointless. Not to mention we have had that storyline before.

I think a much better approach would’ve been if Moxxie was seriously investigating the murder, and maybe getting way too into it and dramatizing it. Like, even with a clear suspect, Moxxie with his love of drama and theater might assume that Jimmy was being set up as a scape goat and keep looking for another suspect, or else try to also find a motive and any accomplices (which, also a neater way to tie Barbie back into that plot!).

Point being, don’t make Moxxie so obsessed with the approval of a bunch of teenagers and so butthurt that his wife is getting attention instead. If the goal is an M&M relationship conflict, that could’ve been done instead by having Millie frustrated that Moxxie drags out their mission for his own drama, or Moxxie feeling like Millie might blow their cover. Heck, why not have Moxxie be panicking over the viral attention Millie gets, since he and Blitzo got taken hostage/arrested by the government goons in season 1?

That’s a valid reason for him to not like that Millie is getting so much attention, in addition to the investigation maybe going awry. He’s worried that she’s gonna get them caught, this time by a government that’s better prepared to fight demons.

Millie’s part of the story I think mostly works fine. It could’ve used some more elaboration as to why she cares so much about getting positive attention — she felt like her family wasn’t satisfied with her current career? Competed for attention with many siblings and a busy farm all her childhood? There was also room for something compelling with how she liked being adored instead of feared, since we saw in the Harvest Moon Festival that she’s kinda shunned in her hometown for being so violent.

It’s just that Millie always has been self assured and confident, so the sudden need for validation felt out of left field. But overall it was a valid plot line and it worked as it was. I just think the AestheticsTM of the summer camp movie musical got way more emphasis than the actual plot of the show.

So, yeah. In this case it was some good ideas that were just sloppily executed. Far from my favorite episode, but I did still enjoy it — the new character designs (the dead camp counselor, Barbie in her demon and human forms, “Millerd and Moxxine”) were honestly good enough to forgive plenty of the plot boo boos.

Although he was shy and very sensitive as a kid, when he grows up he learns to be less anxious about meeting new people and starts making friends easier (this is kinda already in the strips too)

He loves the great outdoors, just being outside in general

He was a Boy Scout as a kid too, he loved learning about things like building fires and catching fish

Fishing is also a great hobby of his

But more than that, he loves nature! Bugs and fish and birds and any kind of wildlife

He must own like 20 baseball caps and hats and stuff

He also loves Hawaiian shirts and patterned button ups

When he was a teenager he went back to the summer camp he went to as a child and became a counselor

He enjoys the responsibility and the opportunity to work outdoors

Even if the kids disrespect him and the CITs don't listen to him.

And who does he meet at summer camp as a fellow counselor? Peggy Jean.

He develops a major crush on her but is too shy to say a thing

His best friends are Franklin, Peppermint Patty and Marcie and of course Charlie Brown and Linus are his friends to

Roy and Peppermint Patty have a masculine girl/feminine boy dynamic in my mind

He and Franklin often hang out and are best friends when they're older

Ok, it's inevitable that I bring up the fact (that you'll already know if you're in the Peanuts discord) that in my au Roy gets drafted into Vietnam (because my au takes place in the 70s) I can't undo this now that I've done it and we all have to live with it

ok i want to talk about bluey for a minute. won’t be my new focus ofc but. i want to talk about it.

specifically what makes it So fascinating and legitimately Good to pretty much All age ranges. both overall and for me personally. therefore,, long post. buckle up :)

also i just want to say that liking bluey when you’re older is only weird if you/people Make it weird. if you’re just enjoying it for what it is (ie the things that i’m gonna talk abt in this post !!) then there’s no reason you can’t like it!! ((basically i’m very afraid of being judged for this so i have to keep telling myself that it’s just like liking any other piece of really well done media. bc like. bluey Is well done. on so many levels))

that being said. bluey. it’s fuckin Incredible across the board. here’s why:

first things first: the Content of bluey. it doesn’t treat kids like they don’t know anything. in fact, pretty much everything in bluey is shown through things most kids already Do. like 99% of the time bluey episodes are just about kids Existing and doing kid stuff like playing games (which bluey and bingo do a LOT of) and interacting with their friends, parents and community as a whole! and the way it Does that is so realistic to how kids actually act (trust me. summer camp counselor here).. it’s got all the randomness and creativity that kids always have when they express what’s in their heads!!

so then bluey Takes that and puts it into something that is enjoyable to watch for virtually anyone.. bc for kids, that’s what they Do so it’s relatable to them…

but for other age groups it’s nostalgic. like i watch bluey and i’m reminded of a) my kids at camp :) and b) myself when i was younger… and it’s just a cool way to get some of those memories back.. like the barky boats ep!! my school did the “buddies” thing too :) that one is one of my favorite eps in the whole show for that reason!!

and that’s also why watching bluey can legitimately be so Healing too.. (or on the other hand can make you realize you have more Issues than you thought. also speaking abt myself here lol) because the heeler family is So healthy (like holy shit their communication is incredible) while still being realistic (they Aren’t perfect!!) so it’s like. you watch it and it’s like. woah. this is something that Could’ve happened. it is possible. and even when you’re older you can watch bluey and take stuff out of it, parent or not..

(also i want to mention chili and bandits marriage, too. not just the way they parent but how they also just genuinely have a good marriage!! and seeing that is so nice bc like. they may be cartoon dogs but i still want what they have yknow)

i think bluey can also make people more… empathetic?? i guess,, towards kids. like i like kids just fine. don’t want to Have any when i’m older but.. bluey provides a better understanding as to how they Work. it shows their thought processes through the games and decisions the heeler sisters and co make so anyone older who watches (parents or otherwise) can interact with them and Understand them better. the whole show is really good abt tackling generational gaps like that too. it goes back to the communication the heeler family has. like seriously. it shows it makes a difference!

also i love how it shows that bluey has this Habit she does to process events.. she’ll basically make whatever Happened into a game to help her understand better and she’ll just do it all exactly how it happened in her actual life. she does it in daddy putdown (the ep where chili had to leave for a night to go to a baby shower) and copycat (bluey starts out just copying bandit but then they find a hurt bird, they took it to the vet, but it still died) and i just think that’s rlly cool that bluey Does that..

last Content thing i want to talk abt is just how amazing the way bluey covers heavier topics like death, even if it’s just an animal (copycat) and infertility (onesies) is. it doesn’t go Too deep, but still deep enough for kids to understand that it’s important to Know about more real life stuff too yknow.. camping kind of does this with the whole language barrier between bluey and jean luv too.. it just kinda Touches on things so kids can understand that other situations exist (i guess that’s the best way to say it??) without getting Too heavy! and i think that’s just really cool.

(not to mention that the storylines of so many bluey episodes are so fucking beautiful and heart wrenching in the best way. the story telling across the whole show is just Gorgeous!!)

anyway. there’s gonna be a part 2 to this where i talk abt the Aesthtic aspects of bluey,, but for now. here’s this :)
