Summary: Castiel, angel of the Lord, has been saved by a cat. He didn’t intend to keep it. He didn’t mean for the green-eyed cat to work its way into his heart. It’s becoming a bit of a theme. Yet, here he is, smuggling a cat into the bunker.
Cas and Dean have been doing a dance for nine years—circling each other, one step forward, by one step back, changing direction, never getting closer, never too far apart. However, when you throw a cat into the mix, the next move becomes a lot harder to predict.
Excerpt: “So,” Dean says, “Cas has finally decided to settle into his room. The one we assigned him, like four years ago.”
Sam looks at Cas for clarification. “Oh, I just bought a few things from the local store to liven it up. That’s all.” He looks back down at his meal, a little embarrassed, having to embellish the lie even further. Technically, he isn’t entirely lying. Livening it up could include having a live animal in there.
“Unlike Hermione over here, who is still living out of a bag.”
“Hey! I unpacked my books.”
“Aaand, you just proved my point,” Dean says, around a mouthful of food.
Sam huffs but doesn’t antagonize Dean further, for which Cas is grateful—happy to enjoy Dean’s good mood.
“You’ll have to show me your room after dinner. I can have a look the next time I’m in town and see if there is anything else that might work.”
An icy dread fills his chest at Dean’s words. He can’t show Dean his room. There is a cat in there, and he didn’t actually buy anything new for the room.
“What did you end up getting so far?” Dean continues, oblivious to Cas’ existential crisis.
The logical, reasonable part of his brain seems to have stopped working. He can’t even think of one thing he might want to add to his room. His brain is stuck on—There is a cat in my room. There is a cat in my room! I have nowhere to hide it. It won’t like being stuffed in the cupboard. It won’t be quiet, and then Dean will find it, and then he’s going to kick me out, and I’m going to be homeless, and the cat will be homeless out and…
There is a smear of ketchup on Dean’s cheek.
It is not that surprising, considering the amount of burger Dean insists on shoving into his mouth all at once. But, in that moment, Castiel sees his out. He redirects.
“You have a little something,” Cas says, indicating with his hand on the side of his mouth, “on your cheek.”
Dean’s face flushes slightly, and he wipes his cheek—the wrong one.
“You missed,” Cas says, reaching out without thinking. He swipes across Dean’s cheek, collecting the red sauce on his thumb before sticking it in his mouth to lick it off.
Dean freezes.
Castiel freezes.
Shit. Shit. Shit. What did I just do?
Eyes still locked on each other.
Sam clears his throat.

What is this?
'Quest tober is an event where people can request fics for a certain time period! I usually like to challenge myself, aaand I've certainly been slacking on regular requests, so I figured I'd give this a go for a second time. Audio Drama Sunday - 8th October ✨
Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I feel like we’re really in spooky season this week with all the horrors on offer from the audio drama community!!

🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (136) I looove when stories show escalating tension at the heart of the story through environmental change elsewhere!! And neither Danielle nor Clem knowing if the shaking was normal hurt my heart a little. They’re babies, your honour! I can’t wait for Danielle and Nikignik to chat again 🤞
HFTH does action SO well and the scene with Mort, Creep and Cindy was just masterful. I was cycling in to work but mentally I was right there. I really hope that Cindy’s plan works - I’ll not get into the ethics of utilitarianism here, but I’ll be so sad if her death isn’t ‘worth it’.
But HELL YEAH, let’s get Ralph back! Time to be useful, my man! Don’t fuck it up!
It’s safe to say that I didn’t have ‘Grug saving Diggory from the Phantom Radio Station’ on my end of S3 bingo. It is very interesting to me that they think their purpose is to die. I think it’s actually vital that the grave digger isn’t dead, but maybe that’s just me?
This final arc is such a white knuckle ride!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
🦀 @thesiltverses (33) We’re all in agreement that Val is absolutely terrifying, right? Right. Good. We’ve heard the noose tighten a little around Faulkner’s throat, but will he be a different man now that he knows Carpenter is alive? I’m so excited to hear this plan fail.

I usually want to have the upper hand as the listener and it’s so difficult to not know!! Mind or Matter: Mini-Comic 2 - Self Expression and Self Exhaustion (PLUS ANNOUNCEMENT)
The second style test/mini comic for MiOrMa is here! This time around I wanted to do a longer test than the previous one, and try plotting out a sustained conversation between two characters with more minimal backgrounds than style test 1, focusing on screen direction, keeping dialogue scenes visually interesting, and efficiency in less complex scenes! I'd say considering how fast I speedran this, that it was a success!
This mini-comic takes place somewhere around arcs 4-5, after some character development has happened for one Jackie Verumie. I haven't put a lot of post-development content for them on this blog yet, as I wanna maintain an air of surprise and investment in reading the comic proper, even if you know where the character ends up, the journey is more important than specific detail spoilers!
Honestly this was kind of the perfect comic to round out pride month with, it's an incredibly queer narrative (hence my extensive use of genderfluid lighting), and I think despite this comic being filled with queer characters, Jackie is the one that fundamentally hits queer themes the most. Happy pride month!!

AAAND for the little bit of an announcement!
Unfortunately, concept work on MiOrMa will be slightly delayed. In the immediate future, I'm going on vacation for the next week! And, when I get back, I'm starting a new job for the summer! Additionally, for the month of July, I'm going to be doing Artfight! My username is Anatthema, if you'd like to follow me, I have almost all of the MiOrMa characters that actually belong to me on there! (I'm working on adding the rest of mine soon) All of this combined means that the projected estimate for the comic starting at the end of the summer is likely incorrect, as I still have a large amount of concept art to do, and my next month is going to be pretty loaded, but hopefully since I have a very light courseload first semester in school, my goal is to get the ball rolling some time in my first semester! (Gunning for October since it's the anniversary of me starting pre-production! I will keep yall updated on that one based on estimated post-artfight)

an update!
i'm back from my travels visiting @lunarriviera and @volturialice! and in a couple weeks i'll be leaving for my residency, which i'm a little nervous about because usually i'm neck deep in a project before a residency and so i get a lot of work done, but right now i'm just playing around with a few story ideas and making minor progress on fic wips. i'm going to put my faith in the universe and tell myself i'll have my agent's feedback by then and i can get started with revisions on Skinless. i guess a month-long residency is the best possible place to work on the unfun kind of revisions, so maybe that's not a bad thing.
since i'm not really writing, i've gotten into some new things:
i started playing honkai: star rail which is super fun and i highly recommend it for people interested in genshin impact who are hesitant to play because it's become so enormous, or who aren't interested in real time combat. honkai: star rail is turn-based combat and still in version 1.3. i started playing genshin in 1.3 also, and i've managed to keep up with it for 2.5 years but i can't fathom trying to get into it now, which is why i never recommend it to people. 1.3 is a great time to get into a hoyoverse game.
speaking of "so enormous it's impossible to get into," i finished one piece (live action) and loved it, so i started one piece (anime) and ngl, i'm a little daunted. a watch guide i read said i had to get to episode 44 to really decide if i would want to invest in watching the rest, but 44 episodes is itself a commitment. i've never really been able to get into a shonen anime, so i'm not sure if it's worth it. any insight here is appreciated.
aaand i started watching the F1 series drive to survive which is 8000% my shit. very excited to get caught up.
many, many people have asked if i've watched the bear. i watched season 1, loved it but not as much as people seemed to think i would, and i plan to watch season 2 soon.
i have a lot of unanswered asks which i'm trying to get through so i'm sorry if i haven't made it to yours yet. i can't guarantee i'll answer all of them before my residency but i'll definitely make an effort. and i'll probably have my ask closed through october so i can focus on whatever i end up working on.

So I got bitten hard by the writing bug at the end of last month and I decided to make it A Thing that I'd write a little bit of something every day, and I've now managed to keep it up all the way through November and I'm really pleased with myself. I made a point of not worrying about things hanging together, just writing whatever bits of random stuff were in my head at the time, and so far I've gotten one coherent fic out of it, I'm nearly 7k words into another with a solid idea of where it's going, and I have like 11k words of another thing that's so deeply self-indulgent that it may never see the light of AO3 but might actually end up being something of a longfic if I can continue to beat off the cringe with a stick.
What's especially wild is that, if you include everything I've written since I started this endeavour on the 28th of October, I've managed to write 50,000 words in just over a month. What The Actual Fuck
Turns out the secret to actually writing is just doing whatever the hell I want and seeing what happens and not worrying too much if it just ends up being for my own entertainment. Aaand also getting wildly obsessed with a new thing, since literally all of this is Rivers of London fanfic
Writing, man! I enjoy it!

ok a lot of things happened in the episodes of sams and laes shows: Earth was attacked by the Bloodmoon and had to have a new body, Lunar has cosmic powers, the cosmic beings that the original eclipse said would come after Lunar are on Earth, Ruin was apparently cured of the virus that drove him crazy at the end of October

oh yea! I follow ayyy-imma-ninja! and someone complemented on the desing they did- I didnt see it as I have the tag blocked- but im sure the new desing is a beauty! they are soo good with desings! )just look at their fairies!)
a friend told me of Ruin- I was actually sad to read that- like dude was such a cool villain.. but well- it had to be -sigh- ~ Ruined~
as for the Lunar thing.. im not even suprised- ever since he could talk to cosmic childs I knew the whole "robot" part was missing - that or my brain that connect how a robot can relate to magic so hard..
aaand for the last questions- I been avoiding anything Sams related! I have the tags blocked- so I dont have to see it- I been more happy that way! but again- is yall wanna chat about it! Im super ok with it
I blocked the tags so I dont know whats up- but sometimes the block fails or someone around me comment on it- and despite my attempt- the show is now forever stuck in my head.. :P

Firstly, welcome to all of our new writers! We cannot wait to get to know your characters and have you on dash with us. If you haven't submitted your account yet, you have 48 hours to do so, and if you haven't sent in the bio, you have one week (but are welcome to ask for more time if you need). As of 9:30PM EST, all pages should be updated, so if you need anything added, please don't hesitate to ask, happy to help.
Next up, a pause in acceptances! Simply because we know it can be awkward to join during an event, we are not going to be accepting on Thursday. But we will be accepting on Monday, October 30th, and you are allowed to reserve faces/connections and/or go ahead and send in an application to be added to the count in the meantime. Just be aware that there is a wait until acceptance day! But if you are okay with that, so are we -- this will be another free-for-all acceptance, so you do not need to fill a wanted connection.
Aaand lastly, tomorrow starts the Halloween Masquerade! I've posted a little crash course in the OOC blog, but we hope it ends up being a great time for everyone. Whether you've been here for a year or a day, everyone is invited to participate. xx

Aah I'd been meaning to ask if you were going to write more rescue-era Russingon! I love all your takes on it so much, I'm always checking your account to see if there's anything new <3
oh hey!! i'm so flattered you think of my russingon! <3
soo short answer: yes! i want to write more russingon they're on my mind always i'm just very distractible by many ships.
longer answer: depending on what you mean by "rescue era," i have some russingon i will definitely release for smut week (october 6th for that piece!). it's only about 1k and it's half maedhros having feelings and half them fucking about it, but it might hit the spot! it's set recently post-rescue, during a hunt they're on together.
i also have various other WiPs i'm hoping to finish at... some point? again, i'm not sure exactly how much any of them count as rescue-era, but i'll tell you about them anyways! here is a run down of my insanely long list of maedhros/fingon wips!
one of them is a sprawling Long Fic i'm thinking to shorten into a few key scenes, and involves fingon being captured alongside hurin rather than killed. i am very cruel to poor fingon in that one, but it has a (halfway?) happy ending.
there's another one set during the long peace that's basically hard bdsm (maedhros working out his control issues, lol).
i have an outline for an alternate universe exceptionally messy knobby story that involves both maedhros/fingon and maglor/fingon (at the same time, both are endgame) and a lot of post-rescue-adjacent feelings.
aaand i have a "fingon getting ready to go to rescue maedhros" fic that doesn't actually involve maedhros directly, but is, in its own way, about them.
my energy for the ship is pretty high, honestly! it is just the trouble of "finish something you write" that keeps getting me lol. and, as always, sometimes i'm just hit with a short little one shot and it happens overnight.

For the Weird Artist Ask Game; 4, 29, and 30?
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
Oh, there are quite a phew ! Of course, even if I CAN draw realistically if I focus hard enough it is still had so whenever I have favorite characters moreso if they are part of my OTPs but are drawn realistically, like Skeleton Warriors characters, I tend to give up midway and just draw semirealistically instead mixed with my own style and because I am quite perfectionist loving to draw fanart in the media's style instead of mine it upsets me therefore I unfortunately rarely draw about it lol. Also architecture designing, I would love to be able to make up sick looking houses or castles but my mind is limited in that field and I don't want to plagiarize anyone so in the end I just draw super cliché ones or basic shapes and it annoys me greatly
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
Basically most of my favorite movies. The Lion King (even if I used to draw a lot as a tween !), Bambi, Roger Rabbit, How to Train Your Dragon, Frozen, Emperor's New Groove, Shrek, Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2, Princes et Princesses, Ice Age, Ice Age 3, Corpse Bride, Brave and so on and so on I have a lot... all gorgeous or hilarious or both, but I have 0 inspiration and don't feel like it, being just a viewer for them instead of an artist or writer makes me content
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
Usually anything related to my own original art, characters and stories. Sometimes when I am lucky they do attract, notably during October challenges thanks to the tags, but usually (and I can't blame because I do the same) people go with more familiar themes such as fanart. In a way I am bit disappointed, and in another way I am also aware it's normal and am glad the right people get to enjoy them anyway. Aaand my paranoid ass is at least relieved it loweesrs chances of plagiarism
