Nice to see you more active lately! I recognize your blog name on my dash cause you’ve written some of my favorite adult Zadr fics! Truly incredible works and a great story. The way you write their dynamic is so so good.

As for Dib and Zim, I can give you a fanfic idea I’ve been thinking about for ages but I don’t know if I’ll ever do anything with.

I’m not sure how familiar you are with Gravity Falls, but multiple dimensions exist in the show, and one version of Gravity Falls that exists in the extended canon is nicknamed “A Better World” (major spoilers contained in that link), and I have thought a lot about setting a Invader Zim/Gravity Falls crossover in that universe.

(Again, major spoilers ahead for Gravity Falls)

The main idea being that after high school, Dib applies to Ford’s International Institute of Oddology and is immediately hired. Dib does this partly because he loves that Ford is a well known and successful scientist that deals with the paranormal, and partly to spite his father, because Membrane absolutely hates Ford and thinks he’s a fraud lol.

And while Dib is a little nervous to go all the way to Gravity Falls at first, (what will happen if he’s not around to foil Zim’s plans!!) Zim ends up following him and setting up his base in the Gravity Falls woods because he equally doesn’t trust Dib teaming up with another paranormal researcher, plus he rapidly gets bored af without Dib around to be his rival.

Of course Dib tells Ford all about Zim, and while Ford believes him that Zim is an alien, he doesn’t think that Zim is an immediate threat, so agrees to keep an eye on him, but won’t drag him in for containment until he proves to be a danger. Instead, he convinces Dib to use this as an opportunity to build up research on how paranormal beings and aliens integrate into human society (convincingly or not).

Zim, meanwhile, might start to realize that he’s in a bit over his head when it comes to Gravity Falls and its inhabitants. Real gnomes?! The Hide-Behind, magic, minotaurs, unicorns?!

Of course, because I’m me, the fic would ultimately end up zadr (probably through some joint close-calls while dealing with the supernatural wildlife in the forest, or a tussle ending up with the both of them falling into the Bottomless Pit for an hour with nothing to do but talk to each other.)

I also love the idea that eventually, Zim just goes without his disguise in GF because all the townsfolk there are so used to the weirdness at this point that they don’t even blink. “Oh yeah Zim, Dib’s alien boyfriend. He’s a bit shouty and rude sometimes but he’s alright.”

But yeah, it’s a concept I’ve had floating around in my head for ages, but haven’t solidified enough to commit to.

A BETTER WORLD AU… PART TWO (find PART ONE here)

Content warning: mentions of death, violence, and potentially other dark themes… so heads up just in case!

Personally, I think the key to making this concept work in a really interesting way is time. Time where emotions can be sat accumulating without being fully expressed or dealt with - if the outsiders have fallen out with the oldies, then maybe they're not checking in with Dinah as much, or at all anymore - leading to those emotions festering and growing with each sticky situation, bad conversation and stressful encounter. The outsiders are all pretty stable characters - so enough negativity and stress need to build and build until the loss of Bart ultimately shatters all the control which kept them on the side of help, not harm…

Below is the version of the events I'm currently seeing in my mind…

The outsiders find there's a sudden increase in negativity accumalaing on their socials, they ignore it and carry on doing what they do, a mission goes wrong which puts the outsider in a really bad light - which causes negativity to grow, they then discover the failed mission was orchestrated by other ally heroes who’ve been hiding things from them for whatever reason - which really pisses them off and they cut ties from the League and other teams, the online negativity gets worse when threats start being sent to different members of the outsiders and then to their loved ones, tensions rise exponentially at this point - they're angry, scared, stressed, concerned - some insist on ignoring, others (Jaime) want to retaliate - I see Jaime getting the most worked up about it all but Bart's the one who manages to calm him down, all searches for this threat turn up empty for whatever reason - they're impossible to find - which only increases the tensions, all come to a head when Jaime finally sends a threat back to their mystery threatener, Bart and Ed get ambushed by a number of masked assailants at the MHYC and both inhibitor collared, footage is sentout of the pairs capture and it's a race to get to them in time, they both get a beating but bart gets the worst of it as he goes up against the orchestrator of this whole hate campaign - he's lived through a reach apocalypse - he's not gonna back down to someone who hides behind some dumb mask, Jaime is the first to arrive and races to get to them but it's too late - BANG! - Bart's body drops limply to the floor and the world is in silence - Ed's free of the cronies who now argue with their leader, he's in tears cradling Bart, the cronies vanish from the room - not having signed up for murder, and the unmasked leader remains - not having noticed Jaime's arrival yet - he points the gun at Ed to remove the other witness, that's when Jaime snaps and every emotion he's been harbouring for weeks/months(?) explode all at once, he tackles the dude away from Ed, separates him from the weapon, then gets him pinned to the wall, they exchange words, a number of staples go through bone to pin him in place, then there's the briefest hint of hesitation - until the guy mocks that he wasn't capable of such darkness - to which Jaime responds - you have no idea what I'm capable of… and that's it - he goes through with it and takes the guys life without remorse… he collapses down next to Bart for what feels like a second before Ed's telling him to run before anyone can question him on what he's just done, it takes a moment but Jaime flees just as others finally show up to take in the dreaded scene…after that Ed is questioned on what happened that night - he refuses to rat Jaime out, the search for Jaime begins, Bart is mourned and given a hologram, and the world becomes divided by speculation on what happened with Blue beetle - did he kill the killer, or did the killing kill him? While there are people who oppose what he did - there are also those supportive of his actions - including a number of fellow teammates and those closest to Bart…

With time comes resentment and division. There comes the questioning of events, criticism of choices, dwelling on what ifs, douting, blaming, distrusting, all sense of unity is lost when tensions are left unresolved - and in this au, they definitely remain unresolved - leaving nothing to ever be the same again.

With that, we move onto the second name I have in my head, which is Ed, and I'm actually seeing him as the batman in this scenario - the one who finds the earth 16 dimension, but ultimately ends up helping the heroes escape… and maybe more. Ed's desire to see Bart again would put him on the path of building a way to find his lost love - maybe he even experiments with combining his own power and technology to create something capable of travelling between dimensions. He would be highly motivated to keep the new Bart safe - even if it means deceiving, then imprisoning him and the others to do so. All his justifications lie in creating a world where Bart would never have been killed because of some online troll - all he wants is to protect those he cares about - he's guided by his heart - and his heart is what eventually reminds him of reason when finally face to face with himself… also, an Ed version of the batman vs batman scenes would be seriously cool!

While both Ed and Jaime would be united in their mission to create a better world, I’d say they would have very different means of acting within it. Jaime would be more consumed by his rage - possessing a desire for total control after feeling so robbed of that control during the deception-hate-campaign-Bart-being-killed situation, he would be the face most associated with the justice lords and the one with the most influence. Whereas, I imagine Ed to be much more reserved - only partaking in public/group engagements if absolutely necessary. He prefers keeping to himself, working on his own projects - like his secret search for Bart, but also, he holds a lot of respect amongst the metacommunity thanks to the work he put into maintaining the centre, therefore he continues guiding those who ask for it. This difference in attitudes is what ultimately causes Ed to end up helping the earth 16 heroes and Jaime to need defeating by them - just like the blue beetle of Bart’s apocalyptic past - he is lost to the darkness… also there needs to be a moment where Earth16!Jaime finds out about JusticeLords!Jaime and he’s just like - Seriously?! Why is it always me who turns evil and makes the world into some kind of apocalyptic hellscape?!

Now, I realise this is all very Ed and Jaime focused - which is simply because my brain just naturally gravitates towards them when conceptualizing - so like I said all the way back in part one, the others would still be involved just as heavily but my brain has not thought that far. One last thing I did consider is when Ed chooses to side with Jaime maybe the likes of Livewire, Wendy and Looker would follow him too - immediately playing into their trust and loyalty towards him for helping them get to where they are… l like to think Ed has some kind of bond with all those who came to Taos.

Ok, I am definitely gonna stop talking now! I'm sorry I lost myself in this concept but it’s been so great to think about! To the Anon who sent me the ask, I hope there’s something of worth amongst all this ramble that helps with your au - take whatever you like from it - and thanks again for sending this idea to me, I really have enjoyed exploring it!!!

imagine what if all the byers (or at least will and jonathan) are staying with the wheelers during the upside down apocalypse in s5. holly, being the little 6 yro that she is knowing no personal boundaries, has been snooping in mike’s room when he’s not home and found the letters he wrote to will. 

as the byers are moving into to the wheeler household, holly beams and  jumps up to hug will because she hasn’t seen him in so long ”will!” and greets her just as enthusiastically “hi holly! how are you?” still smiling she says “good! i have something for you!” will looks at her surprised “you do?” she grins ”yeah!” she starts bounding up the stairs to get whatever it is she has for him. as she gets to the top of the stairs she yells down “i found it in mike’s room!” 

mike who had been half listening whips around when he hears what holly just said. realizing what she might be referring to he yells and tries to stop her “hey! holly! wait! stay out of my room!” but its too late as holly is now coming down the stairs with a stack of envelopes in her hand and she hands them to will “see! they all have your name on them”

will takes them from her hand and looks at them confused. meanwhile, mike behind him has turned white as a ghost and started to panic as he looks at all his letters to will that are signed “love, mike” and where never meant to be sent are now in the hands of their recipient
