I read a lot of criticism of Steven and Duncan's behavior at Landcon, but I can't help wondering how anyone can be so harsh on these two people without having the slightest idea of the real context of what happened on stage. The Landcon can be compared to a rock concert, and you have to understand that every year the same question is asked: what's he wearing under his kilt? So he provided a direct, visual answer to that question. Steven Cree is a man of heart, and those who criticize him have never seen him jump off the stage to shake hands and hug that cancer survivor who thought she wouldn't be there with us because of her illness. You haven't heard him talk about a very moving scene he had with John Bell, and how he confided to us that he wouldn't have played it with such intensity if he hadn't been a father in real life. Duncan Lacroix, whom you all consider an alcoholic, may not know that he is fully aware of his drinking problem. But for those who don't know that alcoholism is a real disease, did you know that, in his own words, OL saved his life, because before he was on the show, he was homeless and collected cigarette butts for a living? It's not gossip, he told us. Duncan is a very shy and gentle man who is totally supported by the OL family, he has been married and is now single, his favorite place is the Isle of Skye and one of his greatest joys is meeting the fans. So all critics should buy a ticket to next year's Landcon, come and meet these people and find out for themselves who they really are. My twenty cents on that one.

Pt. 1

Ever since Miggy appeared through a portal into your lives, things had been chaotic.

You needed to believe things were chaotic good, but with two Miguels you truly didn't know what to expect. Your grumpy faced Miguel often barked orders with a strategy in mind, while Miggy just gave in the heat of the battle and things somehow ended up working.

But at the end of the day everything resumed into a bunch of

"Te dije que hicieras caso!" (Told you to obey)

"I obey orders from none. You specially"

God, as handsome as they were, they were annoying. The constant clashing had also played a huge part in your almost-lover/boss situationship with you. Everytime they bickered like loud vexing parrots, you left them be.

At the begining it was fun to watch them rant and banter, but as things evolved into something more tense and borderline dangerous, your own share of mental force was drained.

You barely hung out with them anymore, adding to the already snapping short temper of your Miguel.

Miggy looked suspicious, and truly wondered if things had been too much for you to not be around.

His eyes however widened in knowing pain as a flurry of memories paraded on his mental runway. He watched Miguel, or at least another variant of him, having and enjoying a little girl he knew so well. Little Gabriella.

"Stay away" He growled, but how could he?

How he could do such thing when another variant of his little girl was there, happy on his shoulders, freshly out of a soccer game.

His own Gabriella loved hearing him play the guitar, just as much as he loved serenading her. His Gabriella loved to make patches for him to add at his jacket. The two had matching patched up vests. In every universe his little girl was beautiful and loved. Like it should be.

"I fucking told you to stay away!" Miguel growled as his punk counterpart held his hands in defense while dodging a hurling chair thrown his way

"I lost her too, Y'know?" Miggy laid on his chair as Miguel grabbed him by the collar of his vest. Fangs bared, tight grip and nose flaring.

"I miss her too."

With a grunt, Miguel let him go.

"You don't know what you're talking about."

"C'mon, jefazo. You might fool everyone under your command. Even our princesita. But you don't fool me. I am you, remember? Estás bien pendejo si crees que puedes engañarme." (You're stupid if you think you can fool me.)

"She's a constant reminder of what I do." Miguel pointed at the screens, "And why people should fucking follow orders."

Miggy rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Could you shop talking about work second for a moment? Let's focus on-"

"She's gone. Nothing to focus on, besides the multiverse."

"I know what it feels like. To suddenly lose-"

"Tu?! Tu no tienes ni una puta idea de lo que se siente!" (You had no fucking idea to what it feels like!)

Miguel roared, as Miggy frowned with a scowl only to his chest to bump against his, retaliating.

"¿Crees que no, cabrón? I lost her due an asshole policeman doing a misdirected gunshot just cause he mistook me for a criminal. He shot in the air, and it got her. It was aimed at me!" (You think I don't, dipshit?)

He palmed his chest before ripping the velcro patch Gabriella had made for him and tossed it on his hands.

"You fucking think I don't know how powerless you'd feel while watching your little girl dying right before your very eyes?! "

"Al menos tuviste algo que sepultar." (At least you had something to burry)

Miguel mumbled and his punk counterpart stilled.

"She vanished in my hands." Red and blue clad shoulders slumped heavily. A burden he still carried to this day.

Silence stretched for a bit too long, before Miguel sighed and turned his back on him.

"You stepped in when none wanted to."

Miggy rubbed his neck as he offered his best comfort words.

"That's what a real father does."

Miguel cleared his throat and turned to face him "We wished we could save everyone."

"But we can't." added Miggy with a solemn face.

"Now you understand why I do what I do?"

"I've always understood that, though guy. Still, is fun to give you shit for it"

Miguel dismissed him with a roll of his eyes, but a newfound level of mutual respect settled between the both.

"Specially when our princesita was caught in the middle of our antics."

"Again, there is no ours in here. Give her space."

"I think we've given her enough of it."

"No."

"Yes"

Miguel grunted, annoyed as he followed him.

"No, no, that's not how you do it."

"It's my turn, I kiss her however the fuck I want to."

Bossman Miguel spoke as he cupped your reddening cheeks, making your flushed lips, that glistened over a new make out session invited him to deliver another desperate and breathless kiss.

Meaty lips guided yours in a pace you've grown to know well, just as Miggy nuzzled your neck playfully. The tip of his nose roaming up and down, for him to give a gentle nip at your earlobe.

You groaned into Miguel's mouth, and whimpered as you begged for air.

How had you ended up in this predicament after such a parkour of emotions displayed between them? Lyla had shown you their conversation, glad at least they learned how to share something that found them a common ground.

And then Miggy had waltzed in your work bay, smothering your lips with a breathtaking kiss as an apology for the troubles caused and it only triggered Miguel, that showed him what a real kiss was.

And now it all resumed into this moment. The three sitting on your couch, that sometimes acted as your bed, taking turns to make out with you.

Miggy's turn arrived as he turned your face, placed a gentle hand on your cheek and kissed you. It was soft and chaste at first, but then his tongue pried your mouth open. Soft and moist muscles fighting for a chance to top you, and he did.

Earning a lovely and delicious mewl from you. Rough and calloused hands roamed up your sides and waist

"Let her go, that's enough"

Miguel grumbled as he had to pry away your needy lips from his counterpart.

"Who did it best, cariño?"

Your head felt like it had detached from your body and floated like a balloon as your Miguel nipped at your neck softly and Miggy mumbled the sweetest things to your ear. You certainly couldn't decide, even if your life depended on it.

"A tie."

Both scowled.

"Guess we'll have to find out differently, then."

Miguel's steely stare fixed on you with a suspicious glint in his eyes, as Miggy licked your earlobe.

Where were the anomalies when you needed them the most?

You gulped at your ongoing demise.

Wolf Moon - January 24-25, 2024

Shake off the cold and sing to the sky, witches - it's time for the Wolf Moon!

Wolf Moon

The Wolf Moon is the name given to the full moon which occurs in the month of January. The name is said to be derived from the sound of wolves howling with hunger while prey is scarce in the midst of winter. Given that we now know that wolves howl mostly for communication, my personal opinion is that people huddled in their homes during a very dark and dangerous time of year probably noticed these sounds a lot more readily with little else to occupy their time as they waited out the winter, and thus were set to worrying about ravenous beasts invading their villages and farmsteads. (It's worth noting that wolves preying on livestock was a very real concern for most people outside major cities for many centuries, so this isn't entirely unfounded.)

The name also calls to mind the howling of the wind during winter storms, or whistling around the eaves during the long cold nights. And for those of us who might not have been careful with our spending over the holidays, I might cite a tongue-in-cheek reference to the wolves being at the door when those credit card bills come due.

[For those not familiar with the phrase, to have "a wolf at the door" is a saying that refers to some imminent hardship or disaster. In modern parlance, this is usually applied to poor finances or looming bankruptcy.]

This month, the moon peaks at 12:54pm EST on January 25th, so the moon will likely appear to be full on the nights of the 24th and 25th, depending on where you are in the world.

Some North American indigenous names for the month of January and its' moon are Cold Moon (Cree), Center Moon (Assiniboine), Severe Moon (Dakota), Ice Moon (Catawba), and Spirit Moon (Ojibwe). Other names include Mantis Moon (South African origins), Quiet Moon (Celtic), and Moon After Yule (Anglo-Saxon).

What Does It Mean For Witches?

As a new year dawns, it's time for rest and reflection before we set out on the next phase of our journey. While the cold weather lingers, take some time to sit by the fire, literally or metaphorically, and take stock of where you stand, what resources are available, and what you plan to do with them.

Check in with your near-and-dear following the mad rush of the holiday season as well. Make sure that friends, family, and community members around you are doing all right. Offer support and kindness where you can, but don't overextend yourself. It's your time to recuperate too, and it is good and healthy to set boundaries which allow time and space for yourself.

What Witchy Things Can We Do?

Winter is a prime time for storytelling. Back in the days before internet or television or radio, people would often read to each other or tell tales to pass the time. Consider re-reading a favorite book that inspires you or exploring some region of folklore or mythology you've been meaning to look into. If you have children who are of an age to enjoy stories, read them some of your favorites or introduce them to something new. Share stories and discussions with your witchy circle too!

While you're at it, take a moment to examine the role that folklore and stories play in your practice. If you subscribe to a particular mythos, be it through deities or just general belief, consider which parts of it resonate the most with you and why.

Consider also the lessons of the winter season - the necessity of rest between periods of growth and activity, and the role of death, cold, and darkness in the natural cycles of life. What do these things mean to you and your practice? Are they a source of fear or fascination? Do you come alive in the winter or bundle up and wait for spring? How can you best remind yourself to pause for breath as the year goes on?

And of course, the beginning of a new year is an excellent time for goal-setting and divination. You're making resolutions for your mundane life, so make a few for your craft while you're at it, and pull out your cards or runes or pendulum for a New Year forecast on how things might go.

How are the gang’s relationship with their parents(and extended family)

OH BOI this took a lot especially because I had to think and RETHINK relationships and stuff, but here we go!

Abby's Family

Abby lives with her parents since she's still studying (and a minor too). They're still in a good relationship, as close as ever, and with new people around the house! Her older brother Jacob and his son Simon are living at her home since Jacob got a new job at Mr. Boss' company (his other kid and wife are living at their house in the next city, but they see each other in the weekends and often visit them at Abby's home!). Only problem is with Cree: since she got married in secret, she's seen less and less at the house, also because she moved with her new husband. Her and Abby don't talk anymore after a huge fight they had some years before. Jacob too doesn't talk to her too much, for some reason.

Also, they all love Hoagie, he's always welcome in the house! Sometimes they force Abby to invite him over...

Wally's Family

Wally too still lived with his parents and Joy at their house, but things are not too good. Wally doesn't have a good relationship with his mother anymore, they mostly scream at each other and argue a lot. His father keeps out of their arguments, doesn't even try to mitigate them anymore at this point; if they start, he just takes Joey to the living room to watch TV or something. Sydney has a better relationship with him, even if Wally never wants to talk about his problems with him. Teenagers...

At least things calm down when Kuki's over; they all love the girl!

He's incredibly close to Joey. The two spend a lot of time together, Wally allows him in his room whenever he wants, plays with him sometimes and also lets him sleep in his bed!

Also, since Lou and Syd reconnected, sometimes he hangs around the house too, if they need a babysitter for Joey. Wally... tolerates him. He's good at videogames, at least.

Kuki's Family

Kuki too lives with his family: her parents and Mushi. Her parents are still strict and serious, maybe a bit demanding now that she's in high school, but she handles it pretty good most of the times. But things are not good. Her parents barely talk to each other without arguing, and it is starting to take a tool on her. Also, they don't like Wally at all, considering him a "no good imbecile punk".

She isn't allowed to have him at home, Kani also doesn't want him to get NEAR the house, so sometimes Kuki has to get out without them knowing. But they ALWAYS get to know what she does, and it's because Mushi always tells on her.

The little girl somehow managed to get out of her lifelong grounding, and is now her dad's favorite girl. She's like one of those Delightfuls: a spoiled educated kid who always does what adults say.

Hoagie's Family

Hoagie still lives with his mom, his grandmother (when she wants to hang around) and his brother Tommy. Everything's fine on this side, luckly! His mom still works at Mr. Boss' company, but managed to become Head of Marketing, so she has a lot to do and not too much time to spend home. Hoagie makes sure everything is always ready and clean, cooks for everyone (and he's even GOOD at it!), takes care of laundry and makes sure Tommy showers AT LEAST once at week. He's the man of the house! Especially since no one knows or cares where his father is, at this point.

Abby's always welcome to their house, but Betty always asks to invite her when she's home too, so they can talk! She loves the girl!

His grandma usually hisses at her. Tommy too.

AND FINALLY I CAN ADD Nigel's Family

After getting his house back when he turned 18, Nigel lived alone in a house that slowly started looking like a messy prison: dirty dishes, clothes everywhere, dust and cracks. The only rooms that were intact were his parent's bedroom (which he started to sleep in) and his old bedroom, that he never entered since he went back. Penny arrived at the right time, as he needed something to get himself together and remember why he was still there and fighting in the TND: for the sake of kids all around the world. The same kids his parents protected as long as they could. Penny claimed the bedroom and is thinking of adding mermaid touches EVERYWHERE. The house still needs cleaning tho.

You groaned once more, passing your hands through your face trying to rub the sleep off of it, you stared at your laptop screen, fast-reading the words that laid on your essay document.

"Buenos dias, bonita" You heard your two years boyfriend, Pedro, come inside the living room

You yawned before replying "Buen dia, amor"

"¿Como dormiste?" (How did you slept?) You nod smiling feeling his lips on top of your head

"You know the answer to that" He laughed

"Have you had your coffee?" You shook your head yawning once more

"I got up straight to this laptop" He hummed going to the kitchen "You have training today?"

"I do" He says "in the evening though" His voice sounded far away

"Can we go outside to have some lunch?" Without realizing it, you started rubbing your forehead not being able to find how to continue your work.

"Claro que si, amor. Do you wanna go to that new restaurant?"

"Sure, let's try it out. Meli says it's nice and the food's good"

"That we have to prove it by ourselves" He came back with your favorite Mickey Mouse mug, a plate and a big smile on his face. You smiled back at him.

He sat down next to you, pushing his chair closer to yours and kissing your lips for the first time in the morning.

"What are you doing?"

"Ensayo" (Essay) You replied with your mouth full of the beard with strawberry jam he putted into them.

"Hablar con la boca llena es malo" (Talking with your mouth full is bad) He mocked your tone as you rolled your eyes at his teasing.

"De igual forma, me amas, tonto" (Either way you love me, silly) He smiled nodding kissing your full of food lips "¡Pedro!"

"What? I don't care about it!" You laugh swallowing your food, you turned your head to the screen shaking your head at your boyfriend's antics "Amor"

"What?"

"Don't pinch your face" He pushed your hand down and away from your face as you turned over to him

"What?"

"You're pinching your face, bonita. Are you already stressed this early in the morning?"

"Your comment didn't helped me"

"I'm sorry" He sighed "Vamos, bonita. Stop doing damage to your pretty face"

"I just can't help it! You know how I get!" He got up and grabbed something before showing it to you

"That's why I brought a hand ball for you to grip it tightly repeatedly whenever you get too stressed"

You sigh "I know you did, amor. I'm sorry, I completely forgot about it"

"Your nails scratch hard, que te lo digo yo" (I'm telling you that) He said as you smirked knowing what he meant from that "I don't want you to damage your pretty face and leave it with scars. It's bad"

"I just can't help it, Pepi" He pushed the ball into your hand

"Bueno, start helping it. You grab this little ball and grip it repeatedly over and over again" You smiled "If I have to stay at home and watch you then I will. We gotta take care of each other, you'll see you'll stop that lil habit of yours"

"Thank you, bonito"

"Don't worry mi amor; health is always at the top of the list, including your facial" You smiled leaning up to kiss him

"Te quiero"

"Y yo a ti" He smiled kissing you back

Hello skyella nation. I have some headcanons for these girls I love them

- butch x femme!!!!

- sky is a lesbian in my eyes, she was more coming to terms with it during PI. Ella is a girl kisser too. At first she was just supportive but once she came to terms that Dave wasn’t interested in her and started noticing sky… she internally panicked. jkwheksk

- Ella calls sky her Prince Charming as a cute pet name :^) knight in shining armor is another cute one. Sky calls her princess or sleeping beauty and other cute things like that. Lots of fluffy pet names between the two

- Ella’s favorite way to be kissed is every time they get home from a date night she dramatically flops onto the couch in some extra pose and has sky bend down to kiss her. Think of sleeping beauty

- they ride those double seated bikes and sing together. Butterflies and birds follow them everywhere they go

- once sky becomes a successful Olympian she gets rich and her and Ella can now go to Disneyland all the time if they want

- I always have to envision my ships as parents in the future… they’re such cool moms. They adopt a daughter and Ella is a great stay at home mom, they do arts and crafts. Their kid is set for life too because of sky’s career.

- they don’t have pets they just have birds and animals that follow them around everywhere they go. Also did I mention that skys car is a convertible and ella has a pink Lamborghini. Something very very pink.

- sky wears the suit on their wedding. Ouhhh their wedding is so cute too. It’s all fairytale themed and when they kiss sky dips her and it’s adorable 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I LOVE THEM.

- every Halloween they go as princess and knight

- Ella likes to dress up sky and normally sky prefers a more masculine look but seeing how happy Ella is to dress her up as Cinderella is completely worth it. Envision them as that imagine of that girl sitting on top of another girl and doing her makeup. That’s them

- Ella has a nice garden that she tends to. Her and sky plant stuff together

- since sky knows the cree language, she teaches Ella some. Every time they see each other they whisper “I love you” in cree

Landcon 6 Day 1, Live blog (part 3)

Steven Cree is back for a new panel

To play the role of Ian, Steven trained a lot with the wooden leg in order to have the right physical appearance but he also thought a lot about the mental state of a person who would be affected by the same disability at that time.

What ending would Steven want for Jamie and Claire in Outlander? Steven jokes that he doesn't care because he doesn't watch the show but he hopes the ending will be satisfying for fans.

He evokes a possible ending for his own character, once again in a humorous tone, specifying that the producers will never agree nor the fans: Ian dies while making love to Jamie.

Steven Cree is disappointed to have to finish his question-and-answer session because panels are his favorite part of a convention.

It’s César Domboy’s turn to answer fans’ questions

How was Caesar chosen to star in Outlander? He says it’s a classic process through an audition. As Romann Berrux had played the role as a child, they looked for another French actor and he was on the short list of actors competing for this role.

César admits that, when he arrived in the series, he did not understand the Scottish accent. He had panic attacks and confided that he also learned Sam's text to know when it was his turn to speak.

The funniest scene to film? For César, it is one of the scenes from Brianna and Roger's wedding where Fergus and Marsali have to dance. They had to learn the dance for a week and shot the scene all night on a Scottish plain in bad weather. He remembers that the camera was placed very far away and that they suspected that we would not necessarily see them on screen, but they were made to do the dance again and again. In the final rendering, we see them for about a second in the background but they have a good memory of it regardless.

New panel at Land Con 6 with David Berry and Charles Vandervaart

Charles Vandervaart was still filming last night in Scotland and flew overnight to attend the convention. He can't say too much about the scene he was filming.

How did they manage to create the father-son bond so quickly? Charles says David was one of the first to hang out with him off set and they spent a lot of time together

David describes the character of William as someone who is strong-hearted and courageous. For his part, Charles describes Lord Gray as someone who is loyal, he is good to the people he loves and he does everything to ensure that they are safe and loved.

Charles tells an anecdote about his casting: after being chosen for the role, the production sent him to New York and he stayed there for three days just so that on the last day his eyebrows would be plucked. It was a wish of the production for the first scene he shot when William meets Brianna.

This is the end of the panels for this first day. The actors will now do their autographs with the fans.

I love her look and would wear the dress in an instant; she’s definitely one of my favorites in terms of loving the fashion, but I can’t figure out how it fits the theme. While the Gilded Age was a massive boom of wealth and culture in the United States, much of this success was built off the exploited lands and labor of immigrants, Black people, and Indigenous Americans. Quannah went and flipped that narrative on it's head. Many people went with the Glamour part of the theme, but she went with the gilded. I pulled some quotes from this article in Vogue from Lenise Omeasoo herself and Quannah's mother, Jody Potts-Joseph. I think they articulate the deep message and meaning far better than I can.

"Chasinghorse’s accessories—her intricate jewelry and feather hairpieces—celebrated the idea of Native community and love in a unique way. honestly, how talk abt them to friends sometimes arent my actual characterizations of their dynamic/relationship. But really they're spinning in my head like a microwave everyday, so my interpretation of them of them generally change depending on settings, aus, or just my mood.

The thing that draws me to them is the fact that Fanny seems like a loyal solider(quite literally), but to where she'd definitely throw herself off a cliff for her leader/command(for rachel only really.) Meanwhile Rachel is pretty oblivious to the length Fanny would go for her – and visa versa. They're devoted to each other, yet are scared to repair their fractured friendship at the same time(mostly on fanny's side).

also the fact Fanny was Rachel's runner up for her GOT fuels me everyday, cause besides this moment, we don't really get too many moments where rachel isn't pissed at fanny for reasons.

could just be her being harsh as it comes with a leader, cause welp, fanny does fuck up a lot. But with these interactions you'd think Rachel wouldve considered ANYBODY else – besides nigel – for her second choice. so 1000000000% rachel had to have ALOT of trust in Fanny to place her as a second in command of an entire global organization, despite her trackrecord of botched missions(which, honestly i believe is why Nigel had been Rachel's first choice, because while nigel had seen mostly sucess in his teams' mission, fanny had gotten the short end of the stick and just faces failure after failure from what we've seen.)

uhhh anyways!! Fanny fell first(unknowingly) amd by the time they become teenagers, Rachel ends up falling harder and depressingly misses her GOT while she's suffering in TND orientation.

TLDR: a shitty anaylsis(barely) on how loyal moonbabes are to one another and they have trust!! I'm not normal about them

Rachel: for reasons, honestly, I loved her since i was a kid. There's a lot to disect about her, and i love that, love her position, her personality, the kind of the role she plays, etc etc idk how to explain any of jt, or the specfics so you get this short ass summary instead

-also headcanon: her relationship with Harvey is rather strained, so Rachel tries to make it up to him by favoring him when it comes to mission assignments when he joined the KND, he also struggles to get her approval by completing them

Fanny: ashamed to admit, i cannot sit through a fanny episode withoht needing to pause and pace around – but like rachel, i like pretty much everything about her, she's interesing to disect as so much of her background is left up for interpretation. Like why did ahe join ths decommissioning squad? Why is she the way she is? Because of the decom squad or her time as a nurse, or just life in general bxns?

-headcanon: Her real name is Francine, and Fanny's a nickname because she thought it sounded less mature and didnt put too much thought in it's meaning in Ireland cuz she didnt live there that long (also her mother didnt have the heart to sit her down and explain it to her at her young age)

other global ops dont bat an eye to it, unfortunately Irish operatives cringe everytime they hear her name.

3. Chad is a loser. A failure. And i love him for that/j but actually, his entire character is interesting, and so much is left in the air for me to dig my teeth into and make up shit for him. One major headcanon i've convinced myself of for him is that he's related to rachel/harvey (cousins???)

-another hc: he's on the aromatic spectrum(shout to friend Amber for the idea cmdb)

4. Cree love her. I can forgive a woman of her crimes always xmsn one reason she's high up on the my list this week is she's interesting(duh), but like all the others she has so much character/info on her but little bits not filled to where i can just make up shit- canonically, i love her role, hsr character, she's an amazing villian/antagonist steals the show everytime - i'd pay warburton with my own money to write what she was like as a KND operative, she is quite skilled from the bits we've witnessed in flashbacks and in the present. One thing that runs through my mind is that Warburton in a Q&A, hinted that Cree probably wouldnt have scouted by the TND, that she was already trekking on a dark path while in the KND. BSJDB

-Headcanon: her and chad and steve have nights where they just hangs out and they watch stuff on Adult Swim. She probably likes South park

Harvest Moon - September 28, 2023

The summer heat might be hanging on, but it's time to get excited for autumn shenanigans all the same. Grab your canning supplies and your favorite cider mug - it's time for the Harvest Moon!

Harvest Moon

The Harvest Moon is the name given to the full moon which occurs closest to the autumnal equinox. It does not matter whether the moon occurs before or after the equinox or in which month it falls. In some years, this means the Harvest Moon may occur in October, in which cause the September moon might go by the name of Corn Moon or Rice Moon, depending on where you are.

In 2023, the Harvest Moon falls once more in the month of September. The same will happen in 2024, when the Harvest Moon will also be a supermoon! However, in 2025, the September moon will come early in the month, making it a Corn Moon. The Harvest Moon that year will be in early October.

The September moon is particularly beloved by farmers in the Northern Hemisphere, as it rises earlier and shines brighter than other full moons due to the relative angle of the Earth in relation to the moon during the equinox, which is helpful for lighting up the tail end of those long work days. In addition, the Harvest Moon may also appear full for multiple nights, providing additional illumination for labor or evening strolls. As such, while the peak of the Harvest Moon will occur in the wee hours of September 29th, it will appear to be full on both the 28th and 29th.

Other North American Indigenous names for the September moon include a number of variations of the aforementioned Corn Moon (used by numerous nations), such as Corn Maker Moon (Abenaki), Corn Harvest Moon (Dakota), and Corn Is Harvested Moon (Zuni). Other names refer to seasonal changes or animal behavior, such as Autumn Moon (Cree), Falling Leaves Moon (Ojibwe), Leaves Turning Moon (Anishinaabe), and Rutting Moon (Cree). Some European and modern pagan names for the September moon include Barley Moon (Old English), Singing Moon (Celtic), and Fruit Moon (general).

It's also worth noting that our Jewish friends and neighbors will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah this month, so remember to share your apples and honey and wish them Shanah Tovah (Happy New Year)!

What Does It Mean For Witches?

As autumn begins, we continue to reap what we've sown over the course of the year. What Witchy Things Can We Do?

This is the time for feasting, bonfires, and outdoor gatherings. September and October will give us a few more warm weeks before the weather turns cold and rainy, so make the most of it! Have a potluck supper with a menu made of everyone's favorite seasonal recipes. Visit a local farmer's market and bring home that fresh seasonal produce. Thank the earth for the bounty it provides and renew your promise to be a good steward of the land where you live.

Technically, this is the second "harvest" moon of the year, since the harvest of most seasonal crops began back in August with wheat and corn and late summer fruits. The harvest of corn and grain continues into September and is joined by additional late-season fruits and vegetables, the most iconic of which is the annual apple crop.

Apple-picking is easily my favorite autumn activity and it's fantastic way to get outdoors, get some fresh air, and come home with tasty produce for uses both mundane and magical. From cider to applesauce to pies, apples are delightfully versatile. They also feature in a number of folk traditions and party games which double as divination rituals.

Continue your preparations for winter by canning or preserving fresh foods, hanging harvested herbs and flowers to dry, or refreshing your stocks of moon water and magical oils. Make your own magical brews using a stock pot as a cauldron and soups, stews, punch, cider, and mulled wine as your potions. Kitchen witches, your time is NOW!

Wear the colors of the season boldly and revel in all the gifts you've received and joys you've experienced so far this year. If you've been particularly blessed, pay it forward to share the bounty with others. Reflect on everything you've accomplished, celebrate your progress, and maybe set one or two small goals for the end of the year.

And since the decorations are already appearing in stores, start stocking up for Halloween!
