A confederation of First Nations that includes 23 in northern Alberta has established a new law it says replaces "all government authority" over its children.
The Sovereign First Nations of Treaty No. 8 in Alberta said in a media release Friday that the Nehiyaw and Dene Nations of Treaty No. 8 Adoption and Private Guardianship Law now protects its member children "ensuring they cannot be taken without written and willing consent from the child’s parents or guardians and (from their) First Nation."
Grand Chief Ivan Sawan said the group introduced the law, while it continues to develop its own child and family services laws, "to protect our children and youth."
"Currently, our children are being stolen from our Nations," Sawan said in the release.

Some traditional Cree hairstyles. Trans people who are neither men/women may wear any hairstyle they think fits their gender expression.

pompadour style, with two braids in front of ears
low twin braids with side bangs, and side part
two small braids worn at side of face while rest of the hair hangs loose

Does anyone know any media that was produced in Cree/nehiyaw? I want to increase my fluency and I personally don't know any books/podcasts or shows in Cree.

The Umbilical, Capital Ship of Oskinehiyawpwat aka. the New Iron Confederacy (Science Fiction). A future where the nation of Oskinehiyawpwat have taken over northern plains of North America after climate change induced societal collapse. The Nehiyapwatak traverse the skies in floating in air ships over the plains where grains and buffalo are cultivated for food and materials. The majority power is gotten from solar panels on aircraft and biofuels from alge farms which are some of their only permanent structures. The umbilical is the largest ship with 60 000 people, most ships carry anywhere from 1000 to 20 000 people. The only ground city is their capital of Amiskwaciy with 100 00 people however the majority of their population of 2 million live in the skies. Any materials that can't be grown or synthesized are recycled, scavenged, or bought.

when you walk through my door
(excerpt) by marilyn dumont
“let there be sound of death and birth at the same time.
the hot wind licks my body, licks
the rustling grasses on the hill where i watch you drift by
i want to hold you the way the swelter holds me.”

I just read your bio and had no idea you were Cree! There are not many native writers so finding out you are is amazing. Do you live on a reservation? Do you speak Cree? I am very interested in Native American cultures so I would love to hear more about it. Love your work too btw! :)
ahhh, thanks!! my mum is Cree (as is everyone on her side of the fam w some Slavey and Ojibwe), but my dad is Welsh. i don't speak a lot of Cree, though. i know some words and phrases, like enough to get by but def not fluent. i'm a member of Swampy Cree First Nation, and moved back fairly recently to live with my grandma (kohkom).
i don't know too much about the culture, unfortunately. me and my mum moved away when i was about 8ish and lived mostly in cities (off Cree Ntn). so outside of knowing what we are, i didn't have much exposure to it, bar some holidays/family get-togethers when we'd go back to visit. i probs know more about Six Nations/Oneida from my step-dad than i do Cree, tragically!

Those Dark Age edits type of facism doesn’t work on me because 700 years ago I would still be a transgender commie.
