Children's Hospital Los Angeles receives $6.1M to study treatment of youth anxiety
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles receives $6.1M to study treatment of youth anxiety
Anxiety disorders affect one in five youth. Generally, a child is treated with either cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or medication. But despite the high prevalence of anxiety, there is no study-based evidence to compare the success rate of medication versus CBT. Some success has been demonstrated with each treatment type but not all patients respond sufficiently to a given therapy. If a child…

Soliloquy: If only I were in Spring
I’ve been waiting many a season to come across him. A myriad of times I was bemused by all I encountered. I remember stopping, settling down for a while only to soon realize that I had been lost. Of course, I kept going but as I traveled my skin became more arid and now there are creases that weren’t there in my summer. I look into the mirror and I see my spring because that’s how I feel! That’s…

YOUTH part 2
: Part 2 because it's too long. My output is about 3 pages long in bond paper so I'm going to seperate them in parts. Again, please do not repost. Thanks.
Regulus: (Bothered by his request but still follows) I can see the moon and the stars…How is that related to what I was asking?
Lolo Asyong: The moon. Look at it. It gives us light even in the dark night.
Regulus: What do you mean by that?
Lolo Asyong: Light, Reg! Light! Even if it’s dark and cold, it gives us light to this world. No matter how much you shine, if it’s too much, it will blind you! Look for the light, Reg. The light will help you…always. (Smiling) The light is beautiful, that…you should know. Those noblemen, they shine, but some were admiring them shine too much, they were blinded by it. Behind those masks there is always a crack…a flaw. Get off their masks and you’ll see.
Regulus: (Thinking) So that means we should always know our responsibilities and roles…right, Lo?
Lolo Asyong: Enlighten me, please
Regulus: (A curve showing in his lips) I mean…we grow as the years pass by, right? We should also know our roles and our responsibilities. We go through different threads. That’s why we should know our priorities. Always. It isn’t every time there would be someone who will be with us. Sometimes we have to do things alone. We need to strengthen ourselves for the challenges and find someone who we can trust. So if I can’t have all the money, time, and energy or shine so that people will praise me, I should take what I have and cherish them with the time that I have.
Lolo Asyong: (Grinning) Yes, you are right. I am very proud of you, Reg, my boy.
Regulus: Thank you. (Smiling)
Lolo Asyong: One more thing, Reg.
Regulus: Yes, Lo?
Lolo Asyong: Remember what I told you. Remember what you said. Do not take them back. Ever. Remember everything. If you want to grow up, never forget your youth. Can you do that for me, Reg.
Regulus: (Slowly nodding) Yes, Lo. I will.

basket of doubts on legs
wires outside on a night like houston; elevator water dripping down in parameters -- pirates without faces, knives without teeth, pipes devoid of fruit filling or custard or sugar.
barely able to move like a person, no truth to my fiction in tangents and eyes; i'm eating lettuce sandwiches with a side of fear salad. the whole thing groans like a sinking ship.
once you really get into it, you don't have to be lying face-first in a puddle of beefeater to still be the thing you swore you'd try to avoid being. (empty pages in books on fire.)
i'm walking past all the old, magical, mysterious buildings; cobblestone streets and all the streetlights i used to believe in --
gentle fireflies and the sound of summer evenings buzzing with a soft kind of electric crackle; like an invitation to something life-changing and wonderful. taxi cabs passing by the center of town in full color
