i think people let nostalgia blind them a little when it comes to atla. don’t get me wrong, it’s great cartoon and i’ve rewatched it countless times but i also recognise it’s fine for the live action to make changes because that’s what happens when you adapt something. the live action is not perfect, but i had fun watching it and it feels like some people are just watching to nitpick and hate
Big agree. There are weak spots in the cartoon and also weak spots in the live action show. Are both enjoyable shows, though? Yes.
And that’s what I feel people can’t grasp. They’re like oooh they cut this, or why did they add that, or this character isn’t the same blah blah — and like yeah it’s not the same. I had zero interest in watching a replica with real people. I’ll just watch the cartoon and enjoy it
Like shows with real people have a lot of limitations, and not just because of budgets. It shouldn’t be news to people that there would be changes and a lot of stuff will get condensed, cut, or adapted in a different way. That was always going to happen.
I’ve seen people complain about Bumi and I’m like you know what I really loved the live action show Bumi. It’s a different take on it — him feeling bitter, showing obvious trauma from the pressure of ruling during a war that’s lasted this long, and being more unhinged rather than all super goofy guy like hey Aang just wait till you realise who I am. It’s different, more serious, and that’s okay. You can still enjoy cartoon Bumi. He ain’t going anywhere
Ppl complain about Katara, and like yeah I get it. She’s not as “fierce” in some aspects. But she suits this version of atla. She suits feeling more like a younger sister instead of a pseudo mum. She suits getting angry when Sokka treats her like a little girl rather than angry he doesn’t wash his own socks. She suits being paralyzed during fights at first because she has major ptsd and has been hiding her bending gif so long. It is realistic and fits the show, just as Cartoon Katara fit the cartoon and is still there. You can enjoy her. Cartoon Katara is not going anywhere
Like please will ppl stop looking for the things to complain about and instead see what we’re being given — an adaptation that is intense, funny, emotional and yes different.
We get Jet and the freedom fighters bombing places in omashu than wanting to flood a fire nation village. That’s not a bad thing. It cut out a whole lot of unnecessary stuff and also gave us an emotional scene with Jet and Katara. Did the part where she freezes him and says goodbye feel less dramatic? Yeah, honestly I would have been down to see her angrier. But I also think part of that is the limitations with special effects and waterbending (which always looks the weakest). the actress playing Katara is also dojng her interpretation of the character. (And can I just Jet was perfectly cast and I couldn’t imagine a better Jet)
So we didn’t get Sokka being with Jet? Who cares. Sokka’s story arc is focusing on different things. I loved how his interactions with Suki went. I love even more the scene where he’s listening in on Hakoda and Bato’s conversation and that line “some people aren’t made to be responsible for others lives” or whatever it was. It was so powerful.
And the cave of two lovers being resolved through family love? YES. I love that so much. Like thank you for giving non-romantic love a moment to shine. Katara and Sokka’s argument in that cave had so much weight and emotional intensity. It’s different from the arguments we get in the cartoon and that’s okay. Their dynamic is slightly different and that’s okay. THE CARTOON IS STILL THERE. YOU CAN ENJOY THE CARTOON OKAY
And honestly I could scream for days about what they’ve been doing with Zuko and Aang. I love them both so much and I love the extra stuff we’ve been getting with them. The Blue spirit stuff and that scene after was sooooooooo good. The little smile, the way they start to connect, and then Aang says t he wrong thing (bringing up Ozai) and Zuko lashes out and it’s just perfect ahhhhh
Also Zuko actually fighting back in the Agni Kai but hesitating to hurt his father was such a good choice. I love the cartoon for having him cry and beg to the end, but I also love the live actuon show for giving us something different. I WANT TO SEE THESE KIND OF CHANGES
And maybe I’m in the minority for that and I really don’t care if ppl think my opinion is rubbish. I love the cartoon. I love tye live action show
I wish ppl would understand that it’s okay they are different

I’ve seen a lot of people complain about how Gabe isn’t as bad as in the books, which valid complaint to have, but also. They had some good reasons for changing it.
You can get away with a LOT more in books than you can with visual media, because whatever you read is limited to the reader’s imagination. That’s why some notably violent kid’s books (Warrior Cats, Watership Down, etc) are still considered kid’s books. A child can still be terrified by those books, but ultimately they can only be as afraid as they are imaginative, and as long as the child is old enough to understand that fiction can’t physically hurt them, it’s fine.
But with visual media, you are only allowed that imagination if something happens offscreen. There’s a big difference between violence in words and violence visually. This is ESPECIALLY applicable to live action media, if the show came out as a cartoon then that might be a slightly different story.
Abuse isn’t fictional, they aren’t going to be as lenient with it as they might be with fantasy violence. Reading abuse isn’t as tense as actually seeing it on screen. So while Gabe’s portrayal in the book might be touching for kids with bad home lives, to have that same portrayal in the show could be potentially very triggering and scary. Remember, this is a show intended for kids.
Also, Disney can get very pissy over violence (especially violence based in reality). Most parents don’t want their kids to see realistic abuse, and if they complained enough about it, it could be a problem. Disney doesn’t like taking risks. If the show got too real, there’s a chance Disney won’t greenlight another season.
Does sanitizing Gabe’s abuse alter Percy’s and Sally’s characters, and create a mess for the Medusa plotline? Yes. Am I happy about it? No. But ultimately, I think it was one of the better options.

i really like how you gush over the prevalance of romance in ML. I hate how people say thats a negative in how the show focuses "too much on romance and not on the agreste plot", or that the ships are taking over the plot. like fam, its suppose to be having such a huge seat at the front
Thank you for the message honeybun and yes ML is about emotions and the platonic and romantic love between its characters and it's beautiful and we love to see it!!!!
The way self-proclaimed feminists will rag on ML being so focused on the cute shoujo romance as being "unfeminist," as if romance enjoyed by teenage girls isn't one of the things that grownass men love to ridicule more than anything else, is one of the most tragically hilarious bits of irony about ML "critics." Like yes you're sooo right girl, turn ML in to some grimdark hbo bullshit that men would take more seriously instead of a "silly teenage girls cartoon," how very feminist 😶
Nowadays I often purposefully make a point of bringing up the fact that I love the romance genre/kdramas/shoujo/etc. in conversations with men as a sort of test and guess what? 10 out of 10 times the immediate reflexive action is to scoff and be like "seriously?" and make fun of how stupid or cringe that is. Why is that? Why was the conversation totally normal and fun when we were talking about whatever stupid bloody shounen action or sports anime that they liked, but I bring up "girly" anime and suddenly its so stupid and cringe? Luckily I went in to those interactions expecting that reaction and have a talent for making men feel stupid so they backtrack real fast but I feel bad for any girl they might've subjected to the same bullshit who was made to feel stupid and ashamed of her interests. And when men DO like any of that "cringe" girly/romance stuff?? They feel the need to overexplain or be defensive or make excuses about it. This is just the widespread norm.
And ML "critics" have a bad habit of conflating their personal tastes with objective criticism. You don't care for shipping and romance? Fine, you do you. But ML is ABOUT the love story, so do yourself a favor and stop watching the show if you’re just going to keep acting like that fact is a flaw in and of itself. This is what happens when they're only used to a certain type of popular media, i.e. media that is approved by said adult men. Shoujo and similar types of Power of Love girl-oriented media were always niche and no one knew or cared about them outside of the specific target demographic because girls would gladly watch "boys' shows" but god forbid a boy ever touches a "girls show." Hell, that’s literally why Tangled had to be called “Tangled” rather than “Rapunzel” so they could get boys to watch without it being dismissed as a “girly princess movie.” Same with Miraculous technically officially being called “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir” instead of “Miraculous Ladybug,” even though the latter name is what was on all the concept material, because boys and girls are all down to watch something like Spider-Man but boys aren’t likely to watch a superhero cartoon titled after a girl hero unless the creators put the male hero in the title as well to prevent it from being labelled as a “girl’s show.”  ML is ABOUT the main ship and people don't know how to deal with that, they're not used to romance being anything other than a C or D or Z plot in something that's not branded as a romance novel or "chick flick"
If you're so interested in the Agreste plot and care less about shipping go watch Sam Raimi's Spider-Man for Harry Osborn or whatever. Oh speaking of which, for the people who whine about caring more about the Agreste plot over the angst it introduces to Marinette & Adrien’s relationship and how Marinette is being “forced” in to a story that’s “not about her”/”girlbossing her way in to the Agreste plot” and say Adrien should be the protag and how he’s “””clearly written more like a main character than Marinette is””” etc. etc.: So this character, Harry Osborn, the “red bug hero’s best friend who has a dead mother named Emily and a rich asshole mentally unstable supervillain father whom he doesn’t know is a supervillain and whom he wishes he got love and approval of,” who Adrien’s story was very unsubtly based off of? Not only was he not the protagonist or even a love interest, he dies in every version of the story! And even this story, which was not a love story and was in a superhero action series aimed at boys, put the majority of its focus on how the identity reveal of the rich supervillain father affected and put a strain on the best friendship/platonic love between his son and the red bug hero lmao.
It's almost like relationships and platonic and romantic love are deeply human experiences and thus interesting and moving to explore in stories and that maybe focusing on love and character relationships in a story isn't a bad or shallow thing 🤪

The feral porn debate is in full swing again because of the fox puppet going viral so I talked to a few people, and I think I’ve worked out why this keeps happening. It’s about jargon and fandom language, and about generational differences in that language.
Fact is, feral in the dictionary and feral in furry don’t mean the same things.
In furry, feral historically only meant that a character has the silhouette and body plan of the real world version of its species, but implies nothing about sapience. So some ferals are sapient, some aren’t, some are in the middle - and this is only really decided by the artist who wrote or drew the character and it’s personality. So you get some literal realistic actually-wild-animals, some busty four legged foxes with eyelashes and do-me eyes, and everything in between.
It was used mostly for the purposes of tagging media or applying a genre to help people find artwork that featured those design traits.
(SIDE NOTE: You’ll find Anthro was also interchangeably used to mean bipedal for this purpose, despite the fact that “anthropomorphic” can mean any human trait, not just silhouette. Which means Bugs Bunny and Todd, the talking fox from The Fox and The Hound, are BOTH anthropomorphic. Yet Bugs might be tagged as Anthro and Todd as Feral, solely because of their body plans.)
But out of furry, feral specifically means a wild animal mindset (aka, a real or perceived absence of sapience). It is also used almost like slang or meme language by younger generations, often used to describe being super excited, acting erratically, and similar emotions.
So all these young furries are coming in, with a very different definition for the word feral, and then getting all up in arms about feral NSFW because that non-fandom association with that word is there.
Over time, some slowly adjusted to the “body plan” definition, but only enough that they understand the concept of a fursona being quadrupedal. The idea of porn for this type of character still bothers them, because in the back of their minds they still make this non-fandom association with the word, and it is only further reinforced by a very real fear of being accused of crimes they didn’t commit (and becoming a target of doxxing or harassment).
So now people who aren’t even old enough to drink or be on e621 are inaccurately calling thousands of artists animal rapists because they drew a cartoon dragon with a penis.
The frothing rabid crowd grows, and the longer it goes on the bigger the stakes get. Then your career or fandom standing is over if you get caught admitting to having a crush on Kovu from The Lion King when you were 9.
Eventually we get asinine claims, like “pup play is zoophilia,” “all furry porn is zoophilia,” “nekos are zoophilia” etc (we are here - these claims are circulating on twitter and tiktok as we speak).
I believe sapience is the moral issue most are having and we need to talk about that, not torment regular people for being gay furries.
We also need to talk about ways to keep teens and children out of adult-oriented furry spaces. You don’t belong in this section because you aren’t old enough or emotionally developed enough to be around it. With that in mind WHY on God’s green earth are you exposing yourself to media you aren’t supposed to be looking at constantly and trying to form a moral opinion on it?

Jumbled Thoughts: Dream Sequences, Featuring Luz’s Nightmare From The Owl House
“It was just a dream.”
...Was it though? In reality, dreams are one of the few times we get to interact with our subconscious without the active conscious getting in the way of whatever it’s trying tell us. This is often confusing and weird though because, well, our brains are commonly confusing and weird. They can’t always properly voice their anxieties so it can often be a mess of imagery and scenes that follow a general theme but the point of it is lost. It is TRYING to say something though.
And for most media, that’s also the point. Now don’t get me wrong: A LOT of dream sequences out there are bad mouthed for good reason. Their points can commonly end up being just “Look at this shocking imagery!” before snapping back to reality. At best, these sequences are actually just reinforcing a character conflict we already had at least some inkling about, like when Zuko in Avatar sees himself as Aang in the mirror. It is mirroring how he effectively is trying to decide between himself and following the path of the Avatar.
That showcases the strength and temptation of the dream sequence though. Not only do you get imagery that otherwise would be impossible but you get to say a LOT about the character experiencing the dream through that imagery. Through their reactions. The imagery might be muddled but the character comes out clearer than ever. LOTS of great dream sequences have managed this, like Superman from The Justice League Cartoon or Batman The Animated series when both explored what a perfect life to the character was and their reaction to it being shattered. We’re not here to talk about a good example though. I could honestly theoretically stop this blog here if I wanted to just talk about the strengths. Clark Kent comforting his fake son, Bruce deciding to give up on a happy lie so he can continue pursuing justice and Zuko battling his inner demons all really highlight the strengths of this trope. Shocking imagery contrasted by inner conflict, clarity and even chaos. Images you couldn’t do otherwise that help reinforce the character, much like what a good backstory will do. It gives context for who they are and what is to come, even if none of it’s real.
I think most people would agree that those are the EXCEPTIONS though and that’s why I think it’s actually more important to talk about why so many of them suck. Because most people hear ‘dream sequence’ and expect it to mean nothing. That it’s just pointless fluff or a chance to give backstory. Hell, I’m going to be talking one dream sequence of The Owl House, also abbreviated as TOH, but they have a second one that is very little more than a flashback sequence with a commentary track until its end where it hardly feels like a dream and more like meditation, which are different in narrative structure and execution. Dreams aren’t the worst way to get backstory across but... It’s also a very blunt way because usually it feels less like and more like a flashback because the writer is just getting the job done.
And this is the crucial problem with most dream sequences. They’re... kind of lazy for most writers. Because you can say “It’s not real so there are no rules”, most writers will use it as a get out of jail free card to do whatever the fuck they want, regardless of the effort needed to sell it. Because there’s a key component those good examples have that most bad dream sequences lack.
Patience. And if we’re gonna talk about a lack of patience, let’s talk about Luz’s Nightmare in the finale for The Owl House. This would be the point where I say SPOILERS but... It’s a dream sequence. And a pretty shitty one at that because the writers, not the character, have ZERO patience for this. And if you’re expecting “They got shortened” because you’re more familiar with it: No. They had a lot of other options they could have gone with. This is literally just seven minutes of wasted time for the sake of shocking imagery. I need to have some patience though. First let’s just cover what happens in those seven minutes. The characters are pulled into the sky, darkness envelops the screen, Luz shows confusion, is told to wake up by a mysterious figure wakes up in the robes of the main villain, questions if this is a dream finds everyone turned to stone except her girlfriend who now wants to kill her. Luz says the line “This isn’t a dream, it’s a nightmare,” then cuts to two other characters also experiencing what are obviously nightmares, moves back to Luz who has a moment with each of her friends trying to judge her actions harshly before trying to kill her, then all together her girlfriend misquotes a book they both like, this confirms to Luz it’s a dream, the OTHER CHARACTERS also wake up, give Luz the answer to what she needs to do to get out, and then it’s over.
For a temporal anchor, the line “This isn’t a dream, it’s a nightmare” comes RIGHT at the two minute mark of this entire sequence. Even before then, we’ve had one reference by the character that this is a dream and a voice telling her to wake up. It then spends FIVE. MORE. MINUTES pretending like it’s a real dream sequence where Luz keeps finding a friend and acting like they’re just not acting like themselves instead of, you know... The fact that she’s already figured out what’s going on, and the show has explicitly stated, to the audience THREE TIMES that this isn’t reality.
Here’s the thing: From a structural standpoint, questioning the dream IS a good idea. It happens in a lot of dream sequences because it creates an arc. First there is the uncertainty caused by things suddenly being different, then a slow possibility that this may just be real and the character may just have to live in this new status quote and then something fractures or even shatters that, especially for the audience. This is when the fight to free Superman in Justice League begins because now the trick of “IF this is a dream” is gone, it’s time to start working to fixing that. This is also when usually the dream might start breaking down and so the characters get a line like “This isn’t a dream, it’s a nightmare.” TOH literally plays this backwards. It wants the line before cutting away from Luz to the other nightmares, who only get one weak appearance each that just destroys credibility further, without understanding that the point is to NOT cut away from the dream. Not until you as the writer have given up on selling this as reality. But then it explicitly goes on to have Luz act like she hasn’t figured out what’s going on. Which brings up the next issue: Clarity. If a character starts acting inconsistently, you start to lose the strength of the sequence. How are we supposed to learn from how they react to the dream, or even the imagery their mind chose (put a pin in that for a moment) if their actions aren’t clear? It’s a problem in general but when the strength of the trope is explicitly about providing character clarity... It’s a death knell. After all, even if the audience never buys into the reality, they might buy into the emotions or the ability to learn about the character in ways they wouldn’t otherwise.
But if Luz isn’t acting clear, well, the show brings in a lot of other characters during the sequence too. If they’re clear, even blunt, doesn’t THAT say something about Luz? Absolutely! That is a great call because it allows a chance to see what the character either thinks of other characters or what they perceive they think of them. So do the words stick in this sequence? Well, this is where the framing of a dream sequence is important and this is also where we need to pull that pin back out. For Superman, he is literally being made to live out his most ideal fantasy from something that is non-judgemental and so the fantasy is entirely his. Anything we see here is presenting things that Clark himself would want. Zuko is literally having a fever dream but there’s no supernatural force so those are his thoughts. As such, all the imagery and words are theirs. They’re a reflection of their psyche. For TOH, the frame is that the big villain, through another villain, is literally doing this to fuck with her. So... Nope! It isn’t organic in anyway. That’s why the fuck up is made actually that breaks the illusion. If this was based on Luz’s mind... Her girlfriend wouldn’t have gotten the reference wrong. Because Luz wouldn’t. But it’s a fabrication so the lines and reactions aren’t made by Luz’s subconscious, they aren’t a reflection of her, but whatever the big bad asshole (or someone being controlled by the big bad asshole technically) thinks will make her give up.
It causes the whole thing to be LITERALLY pointless. Seven minutes of wasted time that don’t even really say anything about the character. What’s worse... Is that it commits the other cardinal sin of a bad dream sequence: It presents something the viewer WANTS.
The idea of her friends finally snapping and actually putting Luz to task fits in with the theme of the show of “Fantasy vs Reality.” These are the consequences of her actions. Even if it were entirely internal, it’d still be satisfying to know the little ball of sunshine who wants to be the hero truly does fear the consequences of her actions as a root part of herself. Instead... She makes a joke based on another character getting a reference wrong and is immediately ready to fight. Even the cruel words haven’t shaken her properly so that she can’t let her nerd self get annoyed at a continuity error.
Then again, why would they? She has no reason to believe any of this and her reaction first was to call it a nightmare. To state explicitly that she knows it’s a lie. It’s almost like character consistency MATTERS.
This is almost a textbook example of the sort of scene that makes audiences go “It was just a dream.” It’s not something to think about. It says nothing. It accomplishes nothing. It’s just there for shock value. To get to do whatever you want while knowing the audience is probably waiting for something to actually happen that they need to care about.
And for a writer, that shouldn’t be a dream. It should be the greatest nightmare of all.

hi! autistic csa survivor here <3 theres a BIG difference between a healthy coping mechanism and posting and interacting with incest/cp online
we're aware that, like. yeah this shit is in fiction but it needs to be portrayed in a negative light like. theres a reason i have TRAUMA from csa........
im begging you go to therapy /gen
I am in therapy. This is genuinely how I cope. I work very hard with my therapist to make sure that this way I cope doesn’t actually negatively affect me. It doesn’t. Just because it’s unhealthy for others doesn’t mean it’s unhealthy for everyone. This allows me to explore my trauma and put it into a different perspective (such as a romanticized view, this can help put the trauma you went through into perspective) safely, rather than going out and putting myself in harmful relationships.
CP is harmful because it involves a real, breathing child who is being hurt. Anime girls and cartoons that are clearly cartoons aren’t children who can be hurt. I feel insulted that what I went through is being compared to anime girls.
My autism and depression disables me from being able to make my own private art, which is why published fanworks are important for me, it is often my only access of this content. I’m a writer and artist, but my frustration with those hobbies and my lack of motivation… it makes people sharing their own work essential.
There are other coping mechanisms. This mechanism isn’t a do or die for me, but it is the most effective one my therapist and I have found. Redirecting horrible intrusive thoughts I have about real people onto fictional characters WORKS. It’s not for everyone, I’m sure it has the opposite effect for a lot of people, but I’m not everyone, I’m a single person.
Seeing what I went through out in a positive FICTIONAL light helps me process my trauma because it forces my subconscious to go “well, shit, if this is what good looks like, then what happened DEFINITELY wasn’t good”. That’s overly simplified, but that’s the gist of it.
Outside of coping mechanism talk, censorship is just a slippery slope. Moral lines are blurred when it comes to very small things like the line between romantically charged and sexually charged, and it starts with censoring fictional problematic content.
Telling people to get therapy helps no one. Not only have I said several times I’m in therapy, it’s clearly just a ploy to seem morally superior. “I just want you to get help!” they say, ignoring the fact that what I’m doing IS the help. I share my problematic content when I am able to make it because I know others who need it but can’t make it themselves are out there.
I’m only bothering to respond to your ask because I feel like you have good intentions, and I feel like maybe my aggression in my other posts made it harder to listen to me. I get that. I find it harder to listen to people who are angry too.
I’ve just lost my temper because I’m tired of being told what’s good for me. Being told what’s going on in MY mind and MY brain and how I process MY trauma.

I took notes on the main character songs in rtc and I need to share them or I’ll rtscream
What the World Needs
Social Darwinism: The Song; they said it
The song is very superficial melodically (they took general pop music like Taylor Swift as reference for building it [when I say Taylor swift I mean something Shake It Off adjacent, I’m aware she has a diverse discography])
Repetitive melody
The lyrics don’t tell a story, it’s just her describing an idea
Structured as if she’s giving a speech about why she’s the best candidate to live again
She also has a lot of speaking parts in this song further pushing my point of this being a preconstructed speech instead of it being a song like the others
Noel’s Lament
This whole song is Noel creating a story of tragedy and he succeeds in that. Tragedy is defined as a singular disastrous event and when a character moves through a narrative while an omnipotent force is pushing for a disastrous and sorrowful conclusion. (See Webster)
(That point kind of contradicts my other look at this song but pay that no mind I did this one first)
This whole story is one ongoing disastrous event with Monique and everyone else being puppeted around to give Monique the most tragic and miserable time
Lowkey giving We Both Reached For the Gun
This Song Is Awesome
Techno rap song
Giving T-Pain; that was on purpose, ik
The piano part kinda reminds me of Eminem
Giving Blame It
Mischa expresses his anger through this style of music
I love Ricky and Constance singing the extra vocals it’s so good I love the idea of them being buddies
Also he said this song would be filled with curse words and I don’t think there’s a single curse word in this song
There is actually, I just checked
Well there aren’t any in the chorus and he said the chorus would only have profanity so 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️
Talia
He has a very traditional view of romantic relationships
^Reflected in the traditional Ukrainian style the song is in
“Кохаю, Я тебе кохаю” blaaaghhegehblalalalla
“Let rivers run wild, or let them be damned” AAAAAAA SHUTTTT UPPP AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Talia seems very distant the whole song; like she’s just an idea that Mischa loves, not an actual person
^That could definitely be because Mischa never got to meet her in person which really shows how superficial of a foundation this love is set on; it’s just puppy love
^He doesn’t actually describe her as a person and describes her as more of an idea
^She’s literally projected onto Jane Doe[‘s skirt] because Jane doesn’t have an identity similar to how Talia isn’t really given one either
Mischa only describes Talia in relation to his relationship with her and how much he loves [the idea of] her, nothing outside of that
But although his love for her has a superficial foundation, it’s very real and his feelings are very real and you can really feel it with how gingerly this song is expressed
The two genres (techno rap and traditional Ukrainian folk) mix at the end representing how angry Mischa is about never getting to meet his love
The “lalala” interlude part feels like if this musical were a dvd movie, this part would play at the menu screen
He uses this style to express his passion (love)
The melody when he sings Talia always reaches before falling. He never ends on a high note while singing “Talia”. Even in the end he finishes the song on a high note while singing “love”, not “Talia”.
He has love for her but might not ever know her. He never got to meet her when he was alive
I LOVE THIS SONG SMMM AARGEHVRVR HE. SHHSHENEM
Space-Age Bachelor Man
The peak of the album
Like since the songs follow the cadence of a roller coaster, this would be the tippy top before the plummet into The Ballad of Jane Doe
Over the course of this song, he gains more narrative control (primarily because the cat guys are giving him more govt power) and I think that makes it comparable to Noel’s Lament
Gives 80s cartoon, like He-Man but less appropriate for children
Feels very self contained, very separate from reality
The singer’s voice is very warm I love it I love it
Reminds me of nyan cat lowkey
When he makes a super high note, his voice falls after he hits it (B3 on “Tell us Ricky should we pull the switch”)(G#4 on “Let me be”)(A4 on “B-b-b-b-bachelor maaaaan” [kind of sounds like he says meow there which makes since cause cat ppl and what not]) which I think foreshadows the emotional drop from this song to The Ballad of Jane Doe
^Could also be referencing the fall to their deaths on the Cyclone roller coaster perhaps idk
Also he says he hits a G# five octaves above middle C which would be the highest note also showing that this is the emotional peak of the musical
Ballad of Jane Doe
The first part of the song, the melody ascends as reference to her death and also her reaching for an answer
She does an ascending minor harmonic scale, falls back down in chromatic and lands on thra (if you know solfège instead of numbers lol sucks to be you ig), then goes down a half step and comes back up to thra not actually concluding the melody because she’s still searching
The second part is more grounded representing her [head] hitting the ground
The third movement is Jane expressing anger for not being able to remember who she once was or the life she lived
The key changes from F minor to G minor (whole step change), but it changes halfway through her emotional change
Skeleton dance number
At the end of the song, she starts “Doe” on a high one (conclusive) then continues moving up a minor third, I think that represents her still reaching for help from anyone to remind her who she once was, though it’s inconclusive and she’d probably be searching indefinitely since this is the end of the song
What’s interesting tho is in the rtc slime tutorial, she doesn’t continue ascending at the end, she concludes the melody and does a curt inhale instead
Sugar Cloud
I think if Space Age Bachelor Man was the highest point of this roller coaster, this song is the fun loopy part before coming to an end
^Which would make sense given that Constance’s last moments before her death was her upside down relishing reality
This song moves around a lot, like note wise, Lillian Castillo really moves through her registers in this song
^And that makes sense considering after What The World Needs, Constance says she’s more of a melody person
^This is also consistent with her lyrics being pretty repetitive compared to other songs and some parts being grammatically incorrect
“It breaks ‘till you can’t break no more” (double negative)
And the lyric “I see the world with all its backwards upside down” really doesn’t make sense to me, but it doesn’t have to, it really just adds to the pure joy she feels that only melodies could describe
The song starts slow and builds gradually giving us a good tone transition from the last song and helps a lot with the emotional whiplash from the jump between Space Age Bachelor Man to The Ballad of Jane Doe
It kind of has a gospel vibe to it, especially at the end during the break down
Half step key change from D major to D# major
I love the chorus after the bridge aaaaaa
Ok I think that was it thank you for reading if you did I think I really outdid myself with this, christ

Random World Building Tidbits
The World and Society of Palette
The planet Palette is cylindrical in shape. Any and all globes worldwide are just tin cans painted to look like a planet. The poles are on the flat ends, like a battery but with stuff living on it. The other planets in their solar system may or may be shaped the same way, but the moon looks normal.
The show’s universe takes place in the mental realm, as do all other universes of fictional media. Every scrapped idea, including the three cancelled continuities, is a branching timeline from any given show’s canon series.
While the show does not take place on Earth, references to real-world places exist due to the mental realm causing reality to leak into the show.
Such reality glitches exist in all shows that can interfere with the show’s timeline and cause minor inconsistencies the characters are unaware of. These glitches are colloquially known as “retcons”, but the politically correct term is “colossal blunders by the idiot writers”.
While everyone is at least vaguely aware that they’re cartoon characters in the sense that it’s their species, very few people, most of whom are affiliated with the in-universe It’s Color Theory crew, know there’s a greater universe out there. As a result, the more prominent characters have absolutely no regard for the fourth wall and a stronger grasp of cartoon physics.
Despite everyone being color coded, a character’s aesthetic family (Tough, Goofy, Creepy, Beautiful, Cool, Cute, Savvy, and Plain) is the closest thing to an in-universe ethnicity any of the characters have…despite all of them being designed with an ethnicity in mind.
Similarly, Drewmans can be divided into three groups: Enactors (those who do dumb stuff), Inhibitors (those who prevent dumb stuff), and Accomplices (those who upload the dumb stuff to the internet).
Because everybody’s desensitized to the cartoon shenanigans that occur daily, characters usually only derive amusement from things that are deliberately meant to be funny in-universe…unless they’re feeling particularly sadistic.
Domesticated animals share the same level of intelligence as the more humanoid Drewmans and are generally considered citizens. Some are independent home owners, but most simply live as pets to avoid having to pay taxes. Wild animals are also fairly intelligent, but cannot speak and live relatively normal animal lives.
Reality will shift so that the more important characters are more likely to have interesting things happen around them. These characters typically have more familiar colors, which is why the the six main characters happen to be the colors of the rainbow.
The show’s tone directly affects how the show’s continuity works. In general, the darker and edgier the show becomes, the more likely it is for things to stick between episodes.
Drewmans aren’t killed when they die. This is a relatively recent development in the universe’s history due to a long period of peace after the Wartime Cartoon era about a century back keeping the tone positive. As a result, “killing” is considered an incredibly outdated slang word that has been phased out by the younger generations in favor of euphemisms such as “murder”, “make die”, or “encorpsify”. Dying forces them to wait as ghosts to respawn in the next episode, but on a slow day one can potentially recover between shots. However, they can still die of old age or if the aforementioned tone shifts strike at the right time. On a lighter note, being a hitman is a surprisingly lucrative career, and meat consumption is largely guilt-free.
Drewman Biology
A Drewman’s outline is a protective organ that is effectively a balance between an exoskeleton and the natural surface tension of a Drewman’s gelatinous flesh. Inanimate objects also have these organs, which is very weird. Claytonians such as Sylvester lack outlines and are essentially amorphous when not standing still, but can absorb outlines from their surroundings for added rigidity.
Drewmans are naturally elastic, and can temporarily shapeshift new body parts should they desire.
Drewmans can lob off and regrow body parts at will, the latter usually offscreen because it is considered horribly rude to look at somebody as they do so. Subsequently, they can take obscene amounts of punishment. The caveat is that their default character design is the base of recovery, so if they had a preexisting condition, such as being born without a limb, they’re pretty much stuck like that. On the flip side, the fleeting tone shifts can cause permanent changes to a character design…
Drewmans completely lack sex organs, except for when they don’t. It’s just a censor bar. Biologically, they’re genderless. If a Drewman feels romantic attraction, they’re pan without exception. Also, don’t ask how they reproduce. It only seems to happen when nobody’s looking.
Similarly, Drewmans only need to use the bathroom once every three or four months. When they do, the bathroom in question is almost inevitably closed for repairs.
A Drewman’s hair stiffens as it ages. Children may have hairstyles that change between episodes, but by adulthood it’s committed to a standard character design. Getting one’s hair wet can temporarily undo this, and there are a number of products specifically for this purpose.
A Drewman’s color can harmlessly stain objects they handle and even entire rooms through close proximity. This is only a temporary change.
The Dullsville Dirt and ICT’s Founding
Dullsville is a city in Euphoria as the most populous town in the state of Misery. The town was initially populated entirely by Plain Family Gray Drewmans, hence the name, but saw an influx of immigrants following the Wartime Cartoons and is currently among the most diverse cities on the planet.
The mayor of Dullsville as of a couple of years prior to the series is Elroy Reginald Berriman, a Royal Blue Drewman who stepped into the position after forty years of barely restrained anarchy due to absolutely nobody else wanting the title “Mayor of Dullsville”. His goal in life is to make Dullsville a (literally) picturesque town people want to live in…which of course brings him into conflict with Violet and the ICT crew, whose mere presence seems to bring chaos. As a side effect of the extended period of no real authority, the town’s youth, namely the small children, are remarkably more well adjusted than the adults.
Dullsville has two primary claims to fame. The first is its position as the “Supervillain Capital of the World”, due to no less than four distinct villainous factions being based there. The other is the Cosmic Latte Café, a world famous chain of coffee restaurants founded and somehow single-handedly managed by Brock Wipper, the Pitch Black Drewman whose face is unknown to the public despite running every CLC on the planet simultaneously. In the former’s case, Elroy actively hates the supervillain issue and has offered benefits to the superhero factions keeping them in line. The latter is of no concern to him, but he feels that a coffee shop that one could find anywhere isn’t the greatest tourist trap.
Due to the whole villain thing along with the ludicrously lax laws in Dullsville taking toon physics into account, crime rates are notably low, most emergencies being left to the various town superheroes. Only a sole officer is in charge of lesser crimes.
It’s Color Theory, Mayor B.’s main obstacle to a normal life, was founded by Violet Oobay, Gordon Monade, Angie O’Jayes, Rudy Razbry, J. Razbry, and Chloe Spearmin. The company, initially an outlet for a young Violet to publish her creative writing, started life as a small club consisting of the then eight-year-old Violet, Gordon, and a select few other friends in their childhood town of Happy Place in the state of Mind.
Over time, all but Violet and Gordon drifted apart, even Violet herself growing disillusioned with the lack of recognition the two had received, but the company saw new life after three relatively uneventful years in college, when a senior year Violet’s new freshman roommate encouraged (read: dragged) her and Gordon to continue their entertainment activities.
Violet and Gordon married soon after graduating and moved alongside Angie to Dullsville 2 years later, foolishly thinking it was a quiet town to raise their infant daughter. Instead, they immediately meet Rudy and J., twin stepbrothers who seem to personally know everyone in town and are charitable enough to let the startup trio move in. Inspired by the bros’ antics, Violet shifted her focus from simple writing to sketch comedy.
The final founding member, Chloe, was a then-child prodigy working as a company intern for college credit. Initially she only served as an assistant, but her increasingly impressive skills in inventing earned her a spot full time in the company, a spot she accepted since most other companies feared her. With her joining, the Founders of It’s Color Theory (FICT) had formed one year prior to the series’ start.
During that time period after Chloe’s admission, Violet started getting visions of a world on the other side. Visions of people trying to reach through the barrier between worlds to get to her. Visions of people who were invested in her success, even though they had no way of actually seeing her face to face. From then on, Violet’s life took on a new trajectory, starting with her spearheading a project to broadcast the city’s happenings to whatever extradimensional beings were interested. For months on end, Violet and Chloe worked tirelessly for results, but nothing came up…until it did. “Oh my muse, it works.”
Over time, more and more people joined the ICT crew, the first 24 being considered their core cast and longest serving members…but that’s a story for the future.

Roger Rabbit theory: the allegory of Judge Doom
Now, if you haven’t seen the 1988 masterpiece that is “Who framed Roger Rabbit.” (Based extremely loosely on the 1981 book “Who censored Roger Rabbit”) I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a great time had by both family and individually. But I want to talk about one of the characters invented for the movie, (As the original book was VERY different) The very imposing and remembered Judge Doom. Total spoilers for this character ahead, just letting you know now.
Tumblr media
Judge Doom is the main villain of the piece with an insane plan to build the first freeway (This movie being set in 1947) clear through “Toon Town,” a location housing hundreds of “Toons” IE, Quite literally, Mickey Mouse, Donald, Goofy, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and so on.
Tumblr media
This includes a number of original characters, such as the titular Roger, his wife Jessica, Baby Herman (Who works with Roger), And so on.
Tumblr media
However, Doom’s plan is to spray the only substance known to kill toons, “Dip” everywhere, which will kill all of Toon town’s residents, destroy their houses, and anyone not caught in the destruction or even humans who have a problem with it will basically be swept under the rug. Why? Because Doom’s idea for this “Freeway” is basically just that. Eight Lanes of high speed traffic, on either side of which are restaurants selling rapidly-prepared food, inexpensive motels, and billboards. Lots and lots of billboards. And all of it will be overseen by Doom’s company, Cloverleaf industries, of which he is the sole stockholder. His plan falls apart when his henchmen literally die laughing and one of the main characters of the movie (Eddie Valiant) kills him, once but-not-really, and again when, after being crushed, he reveals he’s actually a toon. Not just any toon, the one that killed Detective Eddie’s brother, so he has to dip him in a combination of self defense and possibly revenge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, We can see that Doom’s plan is a combination of genocide and gentrification. His utter apathy for his own people is pretty amazing, but overall this is a story of a greedy monster getting his comeuppance by the end and the winding road up to it.  But what if I told you that Doom, as a character, is not just a shadowy real-estate murderer, but rather, he is is also steeped in something deeply associated with Cartoons of the day and even now. Doom is, in a lot of ways, a reminder to keep in touch with our inner child. What do I mean? I’m glad you asked. Think about how dismissive Doom is to the plight of Toons, who are basically the people being used as a metaphor for racism in the story. He doesn’t care that all of these  people, animals, and living, thinking, feeling objects, are going to vanish at his hand. In fact, he relishes the idea all in the name of making money. These days, we see these kinds of people. Those that say things like “A good reminder that cartoons are inappropriate for anyone but children.” “I’m a mature adult, I must do mature adult things, your silly fantasies aren’t a good use of anyone’s time!” “If you play video games, you’re a loser!” Those sorts. I would posit that Doom is a metaphor for this line of thinking.
Tumblr media
Doom is also a toon though. In doing what he was about to do, he’d be reduced to one of the only of his kind in LA, possibly a great deal of the US. But he doesn’t care. The carrot at the end of his stick is money. Money. Money. Money. Now, of course greedy people exist, and and some of you would probably sell out some people if the money was good enough. Even if you know it’s wrong to do it. Doom, though, he isn’t just selling out his own kind. He’s selling out and trying to directly kill icons of childhood, artistry, mirth, fantasy, and lastly, fun. He’s not so much the fun police as he is the fun executioner. That’s his hand holding that cartoon shoe in the barrel of dip.
Tumblr media
But why? Why would someone go to all that trouble just to kill all of those things? It comes back to his answer in the first place. Money. His obsession with getting as much of it as possible, lives, livelihoods and people in the crossfire or in the way be damned, he’s getting it. If to do so, he has to leave behind or exterminate those who don’t know how great the stuff is, that’s what has to be done. This is why Doom hides himself as a human for most of the movie, so people won’t think he’s some jokester goofball. That he is worth taking seriously and respecting/fearing as a person. This is supported by a line Roger drops, “We Toons may act idiotic, but we’re not stupid.” Doom, as a killer who still used a cartoony means of doing it on Eddie’s brother, (Dropping  Piano from fifteen stories) was trying to start a new life with all the money from the bank job that lead to the chase where the death happened and was trying to leave being a toon behind in the pursuit of being seen more seriously and forcing the world to mature with him. That’s what he wants, maybe not as much as the money, but it’s definitely as a supreme bonus. He’s basically trying to kill what remains of himself from when he was still just a Toon. From when he was younger. Maybe he considers that life some kind of childhood he HAD to grow beyond. What is the best way to make sure you move on from something? Eliminate the ability to go back to it. Hence his plan.  When Eddie flattens Doom with a steam roller only for him to stand up and out himself, he embraces his toon powers in a last-ditch effort to make his plan go off without any further hitches, but if he didn’t need to, he never would have considering he doesn’t in the fight up to that point.
Tumblr media
He struggles against his innate Toon-ness. He’s not just an evil whack job, he’s a self-hating monster.  Doom is a walking metaphor, one about keeping whimsy. He made his life all about money and in the end killed a man, injured another, drove people out of business, and nearly committed some variant of war crime, I’m pretty sure. Doom is the ultimate metaphor for forcing yourself to be an adult and making your life all about money. Eventually, it’s the cartoons that stop him as well, as Eddie uses a prop mallet with a boxing glove to trigger the dip spray that kills him.  The only way to stop judge doom was with something whimsical and fun on top of the evil he was intending to do. With the very things he was trying to destroy, and using to destroy them. His undoing was half his own doing. It’s all very poetic in that way. Remember, don’t be like Judge Doom. Embrace the fun things while you have ‘em and keep them close to your heart. Don’t make money and just “Being an adult” your only goal. Lord knows what damage you’ll do to the people and things around you.

My Top 10 Favourite Fantasy Series
I just saw a top 10 fantasy series video that upset me so I am sharing my own (current) top fantasy series. Since it’s about series as a whole I am taking that into consideration instead of ratings for individual books. I am aware that this is really petty. I am counting series that aren’t finished but I read all the books that came out so far too. Also, some of the placements surprised even myself, but stay with me.
Some extras about fantasy series I want to read/continue at the end.
1. Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb
I doubt this will ever change. I read this series for the first time in 2018/2019 and I already reread most of the books in such a short period of time. I also didn’t have an obsession hit me this hard ever since I was a teen. It is very rare for me to get to these levels (thankfully to my poor irl friends that had no idea what I was talking about at the high of my obsession with this). Now, it is in normal levels of loving a series but at the time I even created another tumblr blog in order not to bother my followers because I swear this series was all I posted about. The writing is beautiful, the plot is very emotional and the characters are the most realistic I have ever seen in fiction. There are some things I hate about this series, but also many things I love and those are in greater quantity. Funnily enough this series sort of saved me because at the time I was having some suicidal thoughts but wanting to know where these characters ended kept me going and eventually I got better. Who says fiction doesn’t save lives? This is the most personal series to me and I doubt any other will ever make me feel the same way. As sad as it can be at times, it also makes me laugh a lot and the quiet talks between the characters by the fire give me a comforting feeling like no other.
2.  Discworld by Terry Pratchett
I might not have read all the books in this series. Not even close. But I read at least 10 of them so I am counting it! Since most of the books can be read as standalones anyway I feel like I am in my right. This series wouldn’t be this high if it wasn’t for Reaper Man, Hogfather, Men at Arms, Feet of Clay and the Witches series. I started with The Color of Magic and enjoyed quite a bit, which seems to be an unpopular opinion. However, that can’t compare with the later books and I see that now. The characters are very cartoon-like, but can be surprisingly deep at times and I love how Pratchett explores very real difficult themes through humour and imagination.
3. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
The one that is in most lists of this kind. The OG! I must say I am not the biggest fan of the Hobbit and I haven’t read the Silmarillion yet, but besides this trilogy (or one big book, whatever) I have read his essay on Fairy stories and the short Leaf by Niggle and damn me if the man couldn’t write. I know a lot of people struggle with his style, but this exactly the kind of beautiful evocative writing that I like and wish more authors would do. The big themes of Lord of the Rings are heart warming and there is still no place I would rather be but the Shire. I really like the characters too even if I have read the books a long time ago and ever since I have heard people say they aren’t the most complex. I remember the nature descriptions most of all and how Tolkien could be surprisingly funny at times. So, yeah, this warms my heart and I definitly need to give the Silmarillion a try someday. But, please do not talk to me about the world building. That is not the reason why I love this, but it seems to be a big one for most fans.
4. Pandora Hearts by Jun Mochizuki
I trusted two online friends and bought the beautiful box set for this series without having read it and I think the experience of reading it and having such a beautiful thing in my possession helped my enjoyment of this. Mochizuki’s style is very beautiful (and it was only improved in Vanitas), I really like her character and the plot - even though I saw some of the things coming - it’s magnificent. It builds slowly but it’s really worth it. The main character, Oz, appears to be the typical dumb shonen protagonist but very quickly the reader can see he is smarter than he lets on. I never saw a main character like Oz in other shonen manga. There are many characters I could praise and some I am upset about, like Alice. I feel like she could have had so much more development and it’s a bit sad that she didn’t. This series made me laugh, made me gasp and made me tear up, like all series should do to be honest.
5. The First Law by Joe Abercrombie
The reason this is in number 5 is because this man likes war and battle scenes too much. Those are not my favourite things. Still, I find First Law bleak but, most of all, funny. Abercrombie crafted some of my favourite characters like Savine, Jezal, Vick, etc. I have beef with many people in this fandom that doesn’t appreciate my favouries and only talks about the action scenes, but I guess that is the way it is when you get into a series loved by mostly men. I might have my criticisms of the books but Abercrombie knows how to wrap up the themes of his books. It all feels right for the kind of project he has. This series loses points, however, for not bringing me any comfort. The landscapes are mostly empty and I like my nature and quiet moments that are lacking in this.
6.  The Poppy War trilogy by R.F. Kuang
We could have had it all, but you had to write two books with added characters I didn’t care about and make the ones I cared about feel stale. The first book in this trilogy is still my favourite. Even though it has flaws I don’t think they are as many (and don’t bother me as much) as the flaws in the two books that follow. The first book was the only one to make me cry and I felt so much for Rin, who had a big character development that stabilized at the end of that book for the most part. This book had some shonen moments, it was funny at times and even a little bit gay. It was great. Then, the second book was a little less great and the third was just disappointing. I know Kuang was just following real historical events, but I still think it could have been done better and that some characters that lasted so little time were unecessary.
7.  The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
In general, this is a 4 star series to me. However, I feel so cozy and nostalgic everytime I read it. I didn’t even read this as a kid, I am in my 30s, but the plot and characters are very familiar to me and remind me of similar stories from my childhood. For that, I have to put it in my favourites for now. This is another series that wraps up so well thematically that I love it as a whole. It’s the coming of age of coming of ages and even though Taran is the protagonist, all the other characters are also interesting and fun to follow. I have some complains about it (mostly about Gurgi’s reverence towards Taran), but I still like it a lot. Doli of the fair folk is the best character, followed by Eilonwy.
8.  Greenhollow Duology by Emily Tesh
I didn’t think this will be in my top, but here we are. These short novellas are just so cozy, especially the first one. The nature, the kind giant man, the badass mother, the mischievous fae... it’s all such good vibes. The perfect ones for my tastes.
9.  Gentleman Bastards by Scott Lynch
Unfinished and I really dislike the second half of the second book, but I love Sabetha, Jean and Locke. Locke could be such an annoying character if he didn’t got kicked in the ass so much. I like that he has that know-it-all attitude but things never go his way in the end. I like my characters to be flawed. Pretty fun and interesting series that I wish would be continued and finished, but I am glad I have two and half books I really like.
10.  Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier
Another series of ups and downs. I still have the last 2 books to read, but I finished the original trilogy. I absolutely despise the second book in this series and that main character annoys me to no end. The fourth book also made me really mad. However, I love the first book and really liked the third. I even liked the romance in the third, which is a rarity for me with this author. Why must people with this talent for writing so beautifully use it to write crap? I swear Marillier has one of the most beautiful and evocative styles but then some of the character’s moral values do not align with me at all. Thank you for the side gay character reveal in the later books though. I wish that was explored, but I understand that we are just doing heterosexual romances here. This, like the one that came before, will probably not stay in my top as I read more series that I like better, but it’s here for now.
Series I want to continue:
Graceling Realm by Kristin Cashore (read 1 book)
Malazan: Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson (read 1 book)
Chocolat series by Joanne Harris (read 2 books)
The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin (read 2 books)

Pern series by Anne McCaffrey (read the first book in the Harper Hall)

Chris rewatches and liveblogs the awful The Last Airbender movie for the first time since it was released 13 years ago
ok I saw this once when it was in theatres when I was in high school and I never watched it again. I remember being disappointed and uncomfortable originally
I only remember Aang was pronounced differently and Katara was some blonde chick I remember literally nothing else so here we go
oh damn ok right away the bending animation is kind of giving but the weird cursive stylization of the element names in the intro… not a fan bc my bad Chinese reading self can’t read it and I wonder if that’s even like a real style lol I wouldn’t be surprised either way
Also like just KEEP the TV intro instead of plagiarising but a little to the left?? sorry I know I’m nitpicking
Why are Katara and Sokka like MAGA-white that’s SO uncomfy
Sokka is not giving me the correct vibes
Why would Katara go with Sokka to go hunting?? p sure that happened in the cartoon too but ???
Already changing my mind about the costumes and possibly the Sokka vibes
Okay Aangs tattoos fuck actually
Okay yeah the tone of this whole thing is so boring I can’t put my finger on it yet like something is DEFINITELY missing
Okay yeah the costumes suck
ZUKO??? why is his hair so boring why is his scar so tiny
Gran Gran is white too?? but all the other villagers aren’t lololol okayyyyy
First impression of the sets (like the SWT village were good) but actually they suck they make ZERO sense there are just like open windows and no door?? But it’s cold outside???
OH NO what did this film do to Appa I’m so sorry sweetie look how they’ve massacred my boy
IS THAT UNCLE IROH IM AHSJDKLFNFGSJSKD
EEROH again I guess that’s more accurate but WHY
The vibes in this movie are all off lolol how did Nickelodeon endorse this?????
Still not sure why this feels so flat like I really don’t care about anything happening?? Maybe bc the original show is so character driven and this movie hasn’t even let us get to know any of the characters?? I remember thinking the first time I watched this that it moves way too fast so I guess this all could come down to a pacing problem
Gran Gran’s explanation to like send them after Aang makes no sense at all actually
I know they were trying to be like accurate with the costumes (a laugh tbh) but I do think it was a mistake to get rid of the color associations
MOMO OH NO I’m so sorry sweetie
Again with the air temple set, the vibes are right but it doesn’t look quite like anything I ever saw in SEA or in research...
The sequence where he finds out the airbenders are gone is pretty good. Seems they could do more with that than in the show but okay now he’s having some weird vision with a dragon????
Wait Soe-ka? Knock it off w the names I s2g where is the franchise continuity
Are the gonna explain the weird ass dragon vision??
The FN ships are so bad
Zhao is not creepy enough. Asshole enough though.
I KNOW I’m nitpicking but even the food seems wack
Weird that the firebenders seem to be only able to manipulate fire here, not create it
I do wonder about the authenticity of the costumes. I’ve heard they suck but I’d be fooled which begs the question, why not just BE authentic to the cultures they’re supposed to represent
Is it the acting that’s flat here, the writing, or the directing? Whose fault is it??
Interesting choice to have the earthbenders imprisoned within reach of their own element. I kind of like that, showing how defeated their spirits really are
Of course they gave away Katara’s motivational speech
These bending motions CANNOT be based on real martial arts lmfao it seems so clunky
Wild how I just don’t care about any of these characters lol
The writing isn’t ALL bad like I actually like the way different plot elements were connected for the sake of the movie but the execution is just so bad
Princess Yue leads the NWT? Again… a Choice
Wild how they are leaving the best episodes out of this narrative. Like the ones that gave the characters life
LOVE that there’s an African-inspired Earth Kingdom village, I’ve been thinking about this concept a lot actually
Why does the Fire nation look like that?? Why does Ozai look like that??? Why are we introducing Ozai already I don’t like that choice either???
I HATE the Fire Nation aesthetic SO MUCH
Ozai is not evil enough AT ALL
I DO like the creative directions they took w diversity in the Earth Kingdom like in different towns
AGNI KEE I’m
Aww lil Azula is cute
What a weird ass way to fit in Zuko’s backstory. Again, I don’t find myself caring about it at all
Starting to really hate the bending actually. The elements don’t seem to be interacting w the movements of the bender at all
The statue room looks cool
The dragon again wtfff
The Blue Spirit. Cool but it doesn’t hit as hard bc we don’t CARE about Zuko or his past and tbh it probs won’t make any sense to a casual viewer anyway
Also why does his mask need to come with a wig I mean it looks so unserious
Iroh just creeps me out idek why
OH we’re blowing up Zuko’s ship NOW okayyy
Aww some Sokka/Yue vibes but it’s a real shame I don’t give a shit about this version of Sokka
I think one reason I don’t like this version of bending is it takes so much handwavinv before anything even starts happening
Not digging this NWT aesthetic either tbh
Pakku??? Why does he look like cheap knock off Theodin? Why is he like… nice???
Why is Aang trying to talk to this Dragon Spirit and not like… Roku?
Wild how the one thing they left the same from the actual show was how Zuko snuck into the NWT lol
Hate the spirit oasis, actually
Least helpful Dragon Spirit ever
Cool that iroh is the one who can make fire out of nothing (he obviously taught Zuko) but lolol what a random time to do that
Okay the scene between Yue and Sokka before she turned into the moon was nice. Probably the most emotion we’ve seen in the whole movie
More morbid that her body is still there though lol
And no Ocean Spirit to fuck things up??
Drowning someone w waterbending is very dark but actually a great touch
I like this idea of Aang mourning his people and using that to harness his waterbending and then he can beat the FN on his own without a spirit’s help. That’s nice.
Also the music for that scene was nice. The only good soundtrack all movie too
So he’s just scaring them with water?? Lmaoooooo not even like killing anyone they just all ran away?? that’s actually…. A fucking terrible plot point never mind
Sweet he gets another chance to like. Accept his role as avatar and bow back to everyone?
AZULA
Okay yeah that was AWFUL

So I rewatched one of my fave cartoons ever recently
eene is so far in the rearview mirror for me now that I forget a lot of what it was initially like when the show was airing on tv. Like I couldn’t remember why some people thought s4 was a step down from s3 (even though I agree s3 is my fave). But I read someone’s review of a twist of ed that jogged my memory. Basically the reviewer was disappointed that they missed the opportunity to change the status quo at the end. And it hit me that there are s4 eps that are waaay more enjoyable knowing that we get s5 and the movie later. They aren’t BAD they’d just be kind of a bummer if s4 really was the end. I really disliked take this ed and shove it because it felt like such a grim note to end on. So while I do like s4 this realization made me remember why it left some people sour. That being said I wish s4 got way more credit for its silly goofy eps! It definitely wasn’t all bitter.
-
Here’s a possibly hot take: if anything s5 PROVES their friendship is still strong. Like Edd has every reason to be busy with school things and still chooses to be attached to the hip with slackers like Ed and Eddy? It feels unfair to me that this season gets blamed for being this dysfunctional era of the show. There are iffy moments here and there sure, but there are way more positives imo. I’m a s5 defender. It does commit a few crimes (a couple eps feel boring and they do more gross jokes?) but it’s pretty great. My least fave season is s1 (it’s just a little undercooked sorry).
-
I kind of wish the line in Edd’s character bible re: always being ready for action was more popular with fans. He’s a stick in the mud in a funny way not in a stops the plot in its tracks way! He’s open to silly stuff even in the later seasons! He just has to complain and be annoying (affectionate) first. I remember some of those more hypocritical writing moments confusing me as a kid (like do you want to be here?? lol) but in hindsight it just doesn’t feel that serious anymore. Edd is there because those are his friends, he likes doing the scams, there’s no ‘guilty by association’ and he wouldn’t be better off with the other kids since people love to forget he’s an outcast too.
I wish I could remember more of what it was like pre-movie. It’s so easy to handwave away some interpretations now that there’s a legit conclusion.
-
It feels like the abusive households theory is more prevalent than the (lame tbh) purgatory theory these days. The only thing I disagree with is that I don’t think any of the Eds’ parents are like. hellspawn or anything. I think there is neglect in both Ed and Edd’s households but they don’t hate their kids they’re just imperfect. Less malicious intent and more… they could do a lot better lol. I think Eddy’s parents are pretty good (comparatively?).
Admittedly though Ed’s home life is super hard to pin down bc the iconic WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STAIRS moment is taken so seriously. But Kevin’s parents put chains around the tv and cookie jar when he gets grounded so like!! what is real and what is cartoony exaggeration in this universe!!
On that note I actually think Ed’s bedroom being in the basement is… really cool? It would be concerning if there’s a lot of mold down there, but I always thought a teen (pre-teen in this case) boy would love having a cool spacious lair for a bedroom. He has his own tv even! I’m willing to bet the boys spend the most time in Ed’s bedroom than anyone else’s (which is so weird considering Eddy’s is on ground level AND has its own door. like hello that should be the hangout spot).
I could talk more but this has been in my drafts long enough. Sometimes a 20yo Canadian cartoon can be so personal.

It’s ok, the questions & I ain’t going anywhere lol take as long as you need ;)
1: since they both love DBZ, what is their fusion name? (Since they’re fans, I can see them doing the fusion dance, acting like dorks :p )
2: speaking of dragon ball, what type of “busters” are they, both together & separate? (City buster, continent buster, galaxy buster, etc)
3: do they compare themselves to other best friends in media? Like SpongeBob & Patrick, goku & krillin, etc
4: in a previous post you made, mar’i & Jake loves to roughhouse, how do they roughhouse? (like armbars, wrapping legs together and tickling the feet, etc) & who would win in a friendly wrestling match between them & Chris in a free for all?
5: similar to the toliet humor in the previous ask, what’s the reaction to seeing nutshots, in cartoons, live action movies, and maybe in real life too?
6: what’s mar’i’s outfit? I can see her wearing a pink or purple version of the Robin or Nightwing suit.
7: not really a question but a story idea; based on the comic book: The death of Clark Kent & villain of the story Conduit. A bully or a “distant” friend of Jake is on the same basketball team but usually sucks compared to Jake himself, & gets emotionally abused at home by his father (why can’t you be good as Jake, you’re such a disappointment, etc) after days of being abused and being second best, the bully/friend “somehow” develops powers similar to Jake’s (probably was born to absorb energy and was a late bloomer like Jake) & wants revenge and make his parent(s) proud. If you read the story the death of Clark Kent you know what happens after. sorry for the long paragraph lol
Thanks for the answers for the past few months when I first started asking question, love the character headcanons & stuff. You can take a few days break if you want to.
Thanks for being patient my friend @gothicghost2000 . It’s very appreciated :-D
1. Ah yes, the Duo have two main candidates for a fusion name: SkyWing Or PhantomBird. Now as for combining their first names for a fusion, I see them coming up with “Chrayson’ or ‘Lor-And’r’. The latter ironically being translated as ‘Phantom Fire’
2. Chris at his base strength and power alone can easily be a city buster in terms of power level. At a maximum input of his base power, that increases to a continent buster. Then though you factor in the Nightwing entity. When about 15% of its maximum potential, it can be easily be a planet buster. At its above all maximum level and all restrictions are off, a fully powered and charged up Chris Kent with the Nightwing Entity reaches to an outright Galaxy buster level.
Then we get to Jake. If his Tamaranean strength and power is tapped into and his emotions running high, at 50%, he can be considered a city buster. At a 100% power level, Jake is capable of leveling entire mountain ranges across the continent. Though what makes Jake’s unique Tamaranean power something to watch out for is its unending ability to increase its maximum potential as he grows older. So if he’s a mountain buster at merely 10 years old, only X’hal can imagine how much he can bust at maximum once he’s 12
Now regarding them together, Chris obviously takes most of the power level count compared to his best friend but that doesn’t mean Jake is completely underneath Chris just by power level difference. Now matter the gap, they are teammates and best friends above all else which is what really matters.
3. The Duo mainly compare themselves to Gumball and Darwin Watterson from the titular Amazing World of Gumball and for good reason as their respective personalities can match up well enough with those two. While Chris is a lot brighter in his outlook and definitely less likely to jerkish moment as Gumball, both are known to have days of absolutely being so done with the way their bad luck ruins their day and they aren’t shy from sarcastic moments. Then there’s both Darwin and Jake, two guys who strive only for what they want being the best for everyone they care about. They stick by their respective best friends on their adventures and generally have a deep bind with said friends few people when their families can truly appreciate.
4. Really if anything, roughhousing is coded for Sibling tickle fights. Mar’i knows all of Jake’s most sensitive and favorite spots to scribble her fingers all across which get him bursting into uncontrollable blissful laughter every single time. And yes, her most common target one some nights when she playfully wants to tire out her baby brother are his feet, especially since they’re always sockless. Though Jake playfully in turn fights back with his own hands scribbling on his big sister’s own spots which get her laughing as well.
Now if there’s actually play wrestling involved and it’s between Chris, Mar’i and Jake, try as the boys might, Mar’i triumphs for certain with her ability to withstand most of the play holds the Duo can get in her and often waiting for her chance to strike after Chris and Jake go for play grappling each other.
5. The Duo cringe and wince so hard once the crunch is made, and both shield each other’s eyes. Sure Jake can resort to nutshots during superhero battles but even he internally winces as it’s always of the most painful things any man can endure.
6. Well….as once drawn here by our ever so lovely friend @spider-jaysart , I can for see a younger Mar’i dressing like this as Nightstar
Tumblr media
As for that suggestion though, I can see it as a prototype Nightstar suit Jake made for her which while she certainly appreciated it, she prefers something more in line with her their Mother suits up
7. 😲
OooooooO….A new idea for a rouge for the Duo I see. I’ll look into this story and Ill see more of what you mean but I like it a lot already. Heck canonically in New Order, one of Jake’s school teammates was actual the nephew of Dr Light so him having a classmate that’s either super-powered or linked to someone with superpowers isn’t far fetched what so ever. I feel a lot of Flash Thompson tones with this idea for a rival/rouge for Skybird XD

MY ATLA LIVE ACTION S1E5 THOUGHTS
EP4 - EP6
I think I’m progressively getting more confused with how they’re structuring this plot. At what point does an adaptation stop being a necessary rearrangement and starts being changed for the sake of change. I don’t actually have the answer to that, but I’m going to keep that in mind moving forward.
So there’s a lot going on in this episode, with an arc that again spans episodes 5 and 6 (as a guess). It seems the writers are bringing in elements from book 2, which they were doing before, but this time I’m not entirely sure as to why? I’m a little perplexed about it, I guess. Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was a fairly enjoyable watch, but I do think I would sooner rather rewatch the cartoon again before this episode.
There was a character officially introduced this episode that said some things that I feel directly conflicts with their character in the cartoon, and I’m finding it difficult to reconcile why the writers made this change.
Lastly, this was the first time in this series where I immediately noticed a parallel between Zuko and Aang, which was always something that Made the original series for me, so I appreciated its inclusion here.
As always, spoilers and live reactions under the cut.
judging by the description, we’re in the winter solstice proper now.
katara is advancing in a much more believable way now
are they gonna do the misogyny in the northern water tribe thing?
yeah this is def the opening to the winter solstice episode. does that mean we’ll go to the fire temple and meet roku after?
woah that shot with Aang on his knees in the burnt forest was the exact same one in the cartoon
“my name is sokka, rhymes with okka”
PIPPINPADDLEOPSICOPOLIS THE THIRD THAT’S CRAZY!! where was this in omashu
zuko’s being rude to his subordinates <3 love that guy
oh okay so the yuyan archers are being given to zhao. will this tie into pohuai somehow? should i expect to see the blue spirit next episode?
ozai is. talking up zuko?? to deliberately put down azula?? i mean. yeah okay i can accept that. if they’re making ozai turn on azula a little, then that means they might be setting up for an azula redemption arc down the line. i might miss the ultimate tragedy of her character, but tbh she deserves something good. it’ll be interesting to see how this affects zuko’s redemption arc as well
ooh the bear statues are nice. hei bai time
oh they’re. all in the spirit world? from just aang meditating??? that feels like that’s not how that should work, but okay
pirates, canyon guide? the callbacks, huh? we haven’t seen the adaptations for the waterbending scroll or the great divide, so are they implying that some abridged version of these events have happened in this version of canon offscreen? hm
june <33
HELP SHE’S FLIRTING WITH IROH
WAN SHI TONG???? love love love, he looks incredible!! that sure is a big fucking owl. why is he here though
has azula not figured out blue flames completely yet? they were orange, and flickered blue
i am enjoying this early azula arc, if not just because i love azula
they’re gonna adapt the bato episode, right? bc june is here. that might be coming soon, right?
hei bai <33 he looks great too
no bending in the spirit world
wait is this. an adaptation of the hallucinations in the swamp from book 2?? it’s kind of giving swamp. how much do we wanna bet that the three tailed fox was a representation for yue? i’ll bet it was the same actress doing the voice work
well. goodbye kya
face. stealer? koh is that you?
well fuck. no bato episode, sokka’s already been ice-dodging. bato is in this flashback, but at what cost. i guess this does eliminate that aang miscommunication plot point, which i did hate.
sokka. bullied?
this better not be real. hakoda would never say that. he Wouldn’t!! what the fuck. this better be a swamp-esque hallucination. i’m gonna be so mad. hakoda is a supportive figure in sokka’s life, sokka’s insecurities aren’t supposed to stem from the things he says, even if hakoda doesn't think sokka can hear. i would buy it if the village boys were the ones causing sokka issues, but in my opinion, hakoda should be part of the solution, not the problem.
koh the face stealer confirmed. this goes kinda hard
did anyone tell aang about the whole expressionless thing. what’s stopping koh right now
GYATSO????! this is peak gyatso he’s real
maybe. worry about your friends a little more though aang
“imprisons people in their darkest memories” huh. that means. hakoda was really saying that about sokka? hm
you uh. just gonna leave them there?
it’s good that they’re still paralleling aang and zuko. that was very nice, and also a staple of WHY i liked the cartoon in the first place.
liked: wan shi tong's design (he looked cool as hell), koh's design (appropriately scary), the general look of the spirit world, possible (unconfirmed) foreshadowing of yue in a swamp-esque style
worried about: if they keep adapting things from season two and cutting things from season one, what's going to happen in later seasons?
disliked: hakoda's characterization (i know it didn't seem mean-spirited and i know he didn't think sokka was around to hear, but in my heart of hearts he would never say that. why does bato seem to believe in sokka more than hakoda)

From the prompt “When I said it, I thought it was true”, given to me by @thirdymeowy
I didn’t really like him. I was just using him.
When I said it, I thought it was true. Knew it would always be true.
When we first met, he hated me. But gradually, despite his knowledge of what I truly was, he grew attached. He didn’t want to of course. He knew it was dangerous. But, still, he did, like so many others before.
Though, of course, attached in the way one is charmed by a cute animal or a cartoon character. No one ever treated you like a real person, which you suppose was fair, with the whole emotionless parasite shtick you had going on.
“So Fresh. Your pick on movie night tonight, huh? Let me guess, The Parent Trap?”
You take a moment to respond, lost in thought.
“Fresh?” Error sounds almost… concerned?
“Huh? Oh, uh yeah. Of course homeskillet! That one’s a classic brah!”
You try to keep your tone light and careless.
You don’t want anyone at all, especially not someone you need, to know about what’s been happening to you lately. With the whole… caring about people thing.
Oh yeah, you forgot to try to work out a solution for that like you planned. You had a whole two hours to burn after all. It’s not like you’d really be watching the movie. You could never be distracted by a story for long before noticing how unrealistic it was. People sacrificing others needs over their own? C’mon man, let’s be real here, that would never actually happen. No matter what people promise.
You had no idea how to fix it if you were really being honest. You spend your whole life above everyone else, and suddenly, you have to deal with these stupid feelings?? It just wasn’t fair! You had no need nor desire for them, and they only got in the way! They were almost as useless as you were without a host.
You notice the room is silent other than the movie, and are startled to see Error has fallen asleep right next to you. Strange, Error usually loves to make fun of “cheesy” movies like this. And you’ve never seen him sleeping.
You notice an odd feeling in your chest.
You can hear Error breathing next to you.
You can’t help but wonder why he bothers with you. You’re useless to him. So why does he keep you around?
You see his eyes sleepily blink open, and realize you’ve been staring at him for a bit too long and that an hour has passed.
“Huh, Fresh? What are you staring at?” Error sleepily asked.
“Huh? Oh, nothing. Just thinking dawg,” you explained, already feeling like you said something wrong. Was saying “dawg” overkill?
“Oh alright. Uh, if you don’t mind me asking… what about?”
Where could you begin? That you could suddenly feel for the first time in your life? That you actually enjoyed his company?
…that you were scared?
“I’m just glad to be around you.” You say instead, knowing you aren’t ready to seriously talk to him yet.
Maybe someday.
“Huh. That was surprisingly genuine.”
Error sounds fairly surprised.
“…thanks.”
