So there you are, on the base ship, minding your own business, and you get a an unknown broadcast. It's a loop of something nobody can understand, followed by a tone pattern.

Could be anything. Probe, surveyor satelite, signal beacon that's not compliant with local standards.

But then the assigned Human, who's there to pick stuff up and do Human related things, gets all twitchy, which is never a good sign.

"What if it's a distress call?" They say.

Well so what, what if it is? They should use the standard format. What if it's Thotari assassins? What if it's just a bit of space junk that's been drifting around for the last few Millenia?

But the Human's got all the telescopes - Visial, Radio, Wuth Effect and Gravitic pointed out that way. And now they're convinced there's something up.

And before you can sit down, convene committee and discuss this, CC the agenda to Dr. Kraant and log it all, the crazy human has undocked the cargo manipulator pod, re-named it the Carpathia for inexplicable reasons.

Worse, they overclock the engine. That little cargo hauler should reasonably take 15 Time Units, around 18 human hours to intercept, but at that speed they'll be there in 7.

Clearly Humans cannot be trusted with tech. The wear on the engines will cause the maintainance schedule to be brought forward by months!

You bring this to your supervisor, one of the annoyingly laid back Tsin.

They ask you what the human said and you play them the recording:

Human: Somewhere out there, someone's hurting. Carpathia out.

"Oh" says the manager, "That makes sense."

So you take it to their manager, that big Atrix, who surely is more sensible and she calls the human up:

Atrix: Did you really steal the cargo hauler.

Human: Yes.

Atrix: Because...?

Human: I think that's a distress call.

Atrix: And you overclocked the engines?

Human: Yes.

Atrix: How fast are you getting that thing moving?

Human: 212 vu per second.

Atrix: Huh I think that might be a record. Look, crank it down and run the Nitrogen tanks through the coolant manifold... About 23 pu will do it and you should be able to brake harder. Up to 1.2 gu

Human: Earth is 1.4 gu. I can go up to uhhh 4.

Atrix: ... I'm not sure that tug can take that! Wow! 4? Comfortably?!

Clearly they're all in on this crazy off-the books stuff.

At least it wasn't the Thotari. Some species nobody ever heard of with some weird take on point to point drive that blew enough hard radiation through the front of the ship when they braked out of superluminal space that it pretty much turned the hull to metal vapor, and now everyone has to learn about a whole new species who will argue that their way of doing things that aren't in the regulations is OK for them.

This is why you don't go running off to save people! Think of the PAPERWORK!

Author's note

When the Titanic finally sent up flares and radio'd for rescue, The Carpathia was the only ship that actually went to help.

The crew and passengers just went from 0 to Maximum Rescue instantly, and moved the entire ship to the site of the Titanic pretty much faster than technically was possible. They moved hundreds of thousands of tonnes of steel and wood, pretty much out of sheer spite because reality told them they couldn't do that.

( If we're talking when muses are interacting with him, then uhhh a lot of what makes Kamui develop and grow as a person is through the way someone treats him. Say.... someone decides to be selfless, they have patience with him despite how twisted he acts, and how rude he tends to be. If someone decides to repeatedly be nice despite that it's something that'll eventually have an effect on him. It's not something that's immediate though. Like the first time he meets someone and they're nice he'll just think 'Wow! This person is stupid lmao'

But if it's like repeatedly over the course of time, he's going to start having thoughts like '????Why are they constantly nice to me????' and it's going to be something he starts craving, he'll even start being less rude to them, albeit he's still going to be blunt and honest no matter what. However, he's not going to admit he's enjoying this person's influence on him. He'll keep telling himself it's all for his benefit. He's the type that you gotta really spell things out for him, since he thinks things like 'friendship' or 'romance' is stupid, pointless, yeah. So, I definitely think behavior towards him immensely impacts how he develops as a person with them and in general. :)) Since it'll also mean he's willing to listen to their opinions on things he might have a negative opinion towards. And sometimes it'll make his opinion on those things change. It really depends on his respect for the person, which is reallllyyy hard to earn without being persistent lol.

This goes the same for when he's in a relationship and the other person doesn't like something he did. He will take it into consideration.

Does he learn from his mistakes? It depends on the consequences of those mistakes.

Say, he gets hurt really badly from a fight that he's in a coma for maybe like a month. He's not gonna learn, he's gonna try to fight this person again and again.

But if... he says something REALLY out of pocket to a person he's become attached to and It hurts their feelings, and he ends up not seeing them for a while. That's something that'll end up really bothering him. He'll likely try doing stuff to hopefully get back on good terms with this person. Probably using food, or maybe flowers.

So yeah, he does learn from mistakes. It just depends on what happens because of his mistakes :D

Does he wish for love and affection for himself.... ah... well.... In general he sees those things as POINTLESS. his mindset is that those things only make someone weak, but whether he likes it or not he craves for it a lot. He misses being cared for with unconditional love, he wants that more than anything. It's just HARD to get him to accept and acknowledge all of that.

Well, this isn't hard - obviously my answer is going to be Flash Thompson. I don't know why it's apparently so difficult - he's not really that complicated of a character. Not compared to a lot of Marvel mainstays. But so many people either make him JUST a bully or JUST a hoo-rah America military man. And by that I mean both fans and canon writers. But Flash contains so many multitudes! He's worked in schools, he's a mentor, he's a coach, he's charisma incarnate, he has so many ways he can help people. And I love him.

Uhhh I'm not gonna do this with an image because I don't save these kinds of things lol. But I did once see a long post (and I mean lengthy) describing in detail - mind you, withOUT actually giving any canon evidence or issues or really anything to back up their argument - why Eddie Brock nor the Venom Symbiote should ever be shipped with anyone else, ADDITIONALLY stating that if you were to, say, add another person to that relationship, that you fundamentally are misunderstanding the whole point of """"symbrock"""" and, largely, Venom as a concept. I don't remember specifically the last person I blocked that wasn't a bot, but I do know that I will block people in the Flash Thompson and Harry Osborn tags at the drop of a hat. ...oh wait! 10. worst part of fanon

Wow, loaded question. Probably the racism. And the misogyny. Both of which are still rampant! It's something I, myself, am still trying to work on, so it's not like I'm excluded from my own frustration. But I think what's even worse is people who pretend like it's NOT a problem, that fandom is a magical problem-free space.

I'm also just now realizing that the question says fanon and not fandom but I think my statement still stands. To try and actually answer it though, uhhh I think the worst thing about fanon is when it literally becomes canon. Stop doing that, Big Two.

I don't understand why so many people in the Venom fandom make fics where the host (Eddie, because nobody writes about anyone else) is the one going through the gestational cycle when there is a new spawn rather than the symbiote. It is literally so much funnier and also makes so much more sense to make the symbiote the pregnant one. "but kita it's can-" SHUT UP THE SYMBIOTE WAS THE PREGNANT ONE (it's called "choose violence" asks for a reason 💖)

okay. okay okay. so i just finished s1 of shadow and bone and started s2 (tho so far im only one episode in). and what can i say except im really into it? and also i now have a lot of feelings. 

first of all i appreciate alina and mal being young and also naturally a bit naive but also not stupid? when they accused each other of not sending or reading the letters and then just, you know, talked and hugged it out instead of drawing out the drama? really neat. i love it. love seeing some healthy understanding. babies. and can i just say how graciously mal accepted the fact that alina was very obviously isolated and manipulated and didn’t blame her for it one bit? yeah. that hit me in the feels when i did not expect it bc frankly i mostly started watching it after seeing some unhinged kaz gifs. 

and, uhhh. kaz. ouch and also wow. he’s now my son who has 72 mental illnesses and is banned from most public spaces. my man has committed murder fraud burglary and probably arson and looks like he hasn’t had a minute of good sleep in about at least seven years give or take a few months. he’s a badass he’s canonically disabled he’s a criminal he’s a poor little meow meow he’s a bastard he’s a traumatized kid in a neat little hat. love him. he needs all the hugs and can’t get one.

Tw's-Needles, drugs, doctors, you are sick(allergies), reader is selfish and ignorant in this one a bit because they go to work and out in public even though they're sick

 You sneezed. Again and again and again. You coughed. Again and again and again. You've been like this for a couple of days now. Sneezing and coughing non-stop. You put off going to the doctors office for far too long. You knew this, but would never admit it. When your best friend offered to take you and even pay the co-pays of whatever medicine could get you better, you declined. You were always the type to put yourself last. This time was no different. You were a master at budgeting and planning- but nowhere in your 6-month financial forecast were you prepared to handle being sick. But going to the doctors office and paying for a prescription? You were scared how much it would cost you. You couldn't risk it. Finally, you were ordered to go to the doctors office. By your boss....She saw you hacking behind your desk. When she asked you,

"Are you okay?"

You involuntarily responded with 4 sneezes in a row. She demanded you go to the doctors and said she wouldn't schedule you until she saw a note stating you were in the clear. And begrudged, you did.

So here you were, with a pile of tissues in the trashcan and a handful of clean ones in your hand.

"(Y/N)!"

The nurse called out. You got up from your chair and followed her to a a private room. She smiled as you took a seat on the bed. Sitting in a rolley chair, she got started on the computer.

"So..."Click,click,click. 

She typed. Wow, that's annoying as hell.

"How long have you been like this?"

You sneezed,"Uhhh....A couple of days."

"Do you remember the exact day?" She asked.

"Ummm....Since Monday." You responded. It was Friday.

The nurse nodded.

"And is it just sneezing and coughing? Is there anything else?"

You shook your head, "Yeah, just sneezing and coughing...."

"Okay....I'll call Dr.Iplier in to take a look at you..."

With that, she left. A creature of habit, you opened Candy Crush. You were on level 135. You were about to beat the level when the door swung open. Not even looking up, you closed the app and shoved your phone in your pocket. You wanted to get out and get back home asap.

"Hello,(y/n)!" Dr.Iplier smiled at you, shutting the door. He took a seat in the rolley chair and looked over his clipboard. He hummed as he read over the papers.

"Hi..."You wheezed out.

"Five days of coughing and sneezing until you came here?" He asked without looking up. You nodded, laughing, "Yeah." 

Another coughing fit. He clicked his tongue in disapproval.

Well, sorry...

"Alright....Well, I believe I'll have to check your throat, ears, and eyes. Just in case there is some sort of infection going on...Wow!"

He looked up at you finally, "You missed your last 2 checkups. What happened? You didn't wanna see me?" He joked. Maybe it was whatever you caught messing with your senses, but it seemed like he doubled down on the entirety of your facial expressions when you replied.

"No...I just have bills. And checkups are expensive...."

"I understand. Truly, I do. I have a good feeling that the cost of adequate medical treatment won't be an issue for you anymore though," a smile played on his lips. You went to ask why, but he just winked- and moved on to checking your eyes.

This part was always the awkwardest for you. Eye-contact was a struggle as it was. But mix that with a suave confident man for a minute? Absolute death.

"Say-"

You already opened your mouth, just wanting to get the appointment over as quickly as possible. And the eye-staring contest. He peered down your throat, telling you there was no redness or anything else alarming. He then checked your ears. A soft giggle left your lips, this part always tickled you. He smiled, then checking your other ear. You could feel his body heat. He put his hand on your shoulder, 'to get a better look' as he explained. You didn't care, as long as it didn't slow the appointment down. Before you were kicked off your parents insurance, you visited him regularly. At-least 6 times a year, usually coming in when a cold or something lasted longer than a couple days. His hand was warm, you noticed, and just as quickly as it was placed on your shoulder, it was gone. Then he checked your eyes.

"Wow...."He murmured, sounding stunned, "Such vibrant color in the irises... I doubt you'd ever need to see a ophthalmologist."

"Now..."He said aloud, putting on a stethoscope, turning to you, "let's check your heartbeat. Make sure everything's good in there."

Dr.Iplier placed the stethoscope on your chest, closing his eyes. He placed his hand next to your right thigh on the bed.  His chest was close to yours and his sleeved arm brushed against your thigh. He told you to take deep breaths, moving the stethoscope, again, and again, giving small smiles each time. He then put the oval shaped metal on your back. You couldn't see his face now, after half a minute, he faced you.

"It looks like you just have some seasonal allergies with a minor cold strain," He informed you, "I can give you an allergy shot and start you on some antibiotics. You should feel better after a couple days."

You sighed,"How..ummm..much would that cost?"

"I understand,(y/n),"He smiled,"I think we had an extra one come in the shipment, no-one will know if it's gone...I'll give you that dose if you promise me one thing!"

You began to sniffle, it was so kind that he was willing to help you out. "Yeah?"

"You'll make your health one of your top priorities again?"

"Deal."

"Alright...I'll go get that needle and vial now. Also, one question before I give you the dose, are you sexually active?"

You shook your head, "No,no. I don't even have a boyfriend."

How strange.

He left the room, smiling ear to ear, seeming happier. Sure, it was an odd question. But you didn't even have the slightest education in this stuff. You turned on candy crush again, finally beating the level with only 1 turn left. You put your phone in your bag once you heard the door swing open again. Dr.Iplier set the needle and vial down on the counter, put on gloves ,and got a disinfecting wipe. You rolled up your sleeve so he could disinfect the area on your upper arm. He got the needle ready, asking softly,

"Do you want me to count you down?" His umber eyes were honest.

You shook your head, "No, thanks. Just get it over with, please."

He shrugged," Alright..."

You hissed as the needle entered your arm. The slow, steady flow of the allergy medicine entered your blood stream. You held your breath and then realized he was holding your hand, giving it squeezes. It was distracting you. But what distracted you the most was the way his hand felt. Warm, and almost clammy. What was he nervous about? You were the one getting the shot. The needle left your arm. But his hand held yours a bit longer, but then left. You started to get ready to leave, but he placed a hand on your shoulder.

Stop moving and listen.

"You might be dizzy and unsteady for a few minutes, my dear..."Dr.Iplier informed you.

"Oh, sorry..."You sheepishly laughed.

"It's alright, just stay here for a couple minutes until the effects kick in..."He told you. He left, telling you he was getting the paperwork. You turned to your phone to play the addictive sweet game again, but you decided against it. It'd probably only take a few minutes for him to return. You checked the clock, one minute had passed. Then two minutes. Then 3...And with each passing minute you felt dizzier. 

So dizzy...Was it supposed to be like this?

You laughed quietly, it was just the side effects. It had to be. You glanced at the clock. 5 minutes. By now, you couldn't even stand up. You called out his name softly, not being able to say it any louder than a whisper. You called it again, but quieter this time. After about 10 minutes, he came back, closing the door. Your eyes said it all. Watering, begging him to end the confusion and give a reason why your body was so slow.

"Dr.Iplier?" You whispered shakily. Dr.Iplier pushed you gently down on the bed, looking at your concerned face. He smiled, lifting up a hand to run your side.

"Sweet Y/N, I'm taking you home today. Last names are too formal for this special occasion. Please, call me Edward," He requested. 

You were confused, having a strong urge to run.

Escape

"I've been sick too..."He continued. You stayed quiet, trying to stay aware of your surroundings.

"I've been lovesick, Darling." He trailed off, planting his hands on both sides of you, his chest just above yours. His eyes were filled with pure admiration staring into yours. Your eyes began to close and you let out a whine.

"None of that, Sweetheart... You're the safest you have ever been before and ever will be..." He checked the clock on the wall.

"I'll make sure you never ever get sick again, my dear...."He promised you, turning back to look at your tired face, "Even if I have to bathe you every day, even if I have to give you a shot everyday, even if I have to make sure-"

He trailed a hand over inner arm, where your veins lied,

"-you take your vitamins and medicine everyday."

2022 Plans and Goals: Review

Let’s have a look at my goals and see how they went!

1. Pass the Bergenstest ✅

I did indeed! And I got C1 overall. The goal I’ve had in Norwegian for years is finally ticked off :D

2. Pull all my skills up to C1 level ✅

Technically I got B2 on the writing sections of the Bergenstest, but I'd got C1 on all my practice papers and think I could’ve got C1 had I actually slept the night before and remembered to take a drink into the exam. And given I got C1 everywhere else, I think I can tick this one off! That being said, I think my writing has maybe dipped back down towards B2 because I don’t practise at the moment. But hey, I don’t mind; I know I can pull it back up to C1 if I work on it.

3. Complete Norwegian Tutor and Enjoy Norwegian textbooks ❌

Wow yeah this did not happen in the slightest, I think I did half a chapter of Enjoy Norwegian? Whoops.

4. Intensively study another language for 3 months (?) ✅

I wouldn’t say I studied Japanese intensively, as such, but I did go pretty hard. This goal was more about adding a new language into my schedule, so I’m marking it as done.

5. Move out of my current house ❎

We’re still here, but things have changed. For one thing, I’m now the sole owner of it (I was previously a joint owner) and my boyfriend and I are very much looking to sell it by the end of 2023. Of course, I’ll be in Japan in 2023, so it’s not like I’ll be living in this house for much longer. Fingers crossed we can get the house sold and find our new home before/shortly after I get back!

6. Learn to fan dance properly ❎

Uhhh yeah I didn’t exactly work on this like I wanted to. I set myself some mini-goals and achieved none of them lmao. But I did do my first ever choreographed routine and I feel like I improved overall, so I’m marking this as ‘kinda’.

7. Go to the dentist ❌

I tried. I can’t believe how bad dental care in the UK is (you know that stereotype that Brits have bad teeth? It’s actually kinda true, and now I know why!) Not a single NHS dentist taking new patients in my city, or for 50+ miles around me. Which would’ve meant having to pay, and that shit’s expensive. I’m so fucking disappointed in the UK honestly.

8. Prioritise my health more ❌

I had a really good run in July/August/September. Then I got covid, everything went to shit and I’m even worse than before. Idk what I weigh or my fat % right now but it’s worse than this time last year for sure. Oh well, hopefully I’ll get into some good habits when I’m in Japan.

So that’s 3/8 achieved, 2/8 kinda achieved and 3/8 not achieved. If I give myself half a point for each ‘kinda achieved’ goal, I achieved 50% of my goals. Could be better, could be worse. Time to look ahead to 2023!

Azure Moon - Chapter 10

We are now in part 2 of Azure Moon

Story

Ashe is worried about what will happen between the Kingdom and the Alliance after the war a bit but... why? Listen, we know Claude is a snake but we don’t really have a reason to be suspicious of the Alliance this time around. 

An NPC talks about all the commoners who have been promoted to high positions in the Kingdom. Wow, it’s like all the lords wanted to make these changes to their lands or something...

Gilbert was sent to the Alliance? No, give him back. I don’t share my dilf harems.

The Central Church is helping refugees from the Empire, the very people who once attacked them. Jesus, this game has two routes where the Church is “evil” and yet this route is just tearing all that down. 

Whoa, the main theme of Houses (and Foldan) is a motif in the background for the camp music. Did they do that too for the other routes and I just wasn’t paying attention? Totally possible. 

There is an NPC who was helped by Dimitri. He lifted a wagon out of the mud for her, and she didn’t find out till later that it was the king. Cute. 

Yuri says being hired was a formality- he has friends and family in the Kingdom so he’s happy to be back. 

There is an Imperial General in the camp that joined the Kingdom. Says Ferdinand and Hubert are missing. They are 100% dead, I tell you. Lame....

Uhh.... What do you mean, Felix, that you thought the emperor’s actions were rash but not totally unreasonable? Do you mean the war? Uhhh, no one was liking it six months ago. Unless you mean the reforms? I have no FUCKING clue but you better not mean the war was not unreasonable.

Some NPC is talking smack about Kingdom food. But dude, we ARE in a war. Grub is war food, deal. 

I’m disappointed we didn’t get... more out of Miklan’s death. Sylvain does mention his mom is taking is hard since she loved him as if he was his own son, but I feel like... there should have been more? Disappointing. 

Seteth doesn’t really have issues about people not being religious but he would like to see the faith spread. He has issues with the Western and Eastern Churches in their own ways

Damn, Dimitri passed out for three days after the last big battle? Poor Dedue, must have worried him sick

Randolph appears in a side map. This boy will die soon, I know it, lol

So the Empire is now just destroying fucking everything. And they suspect the emperor is a mere puppet. 

And now the Western Church is attacking? Oh, whoa, now the main map has changed. I’m trying to remember if GW did something similar. I don’t recall, honestly. I’ll have to check back on my recordings, but I don’t think so. 

A little annoyed that they are doing the ol’ switcharoo, a surprise attack and changing targets. Not as bad as GW did but still, annoying.

Ah, the Slithers are involved. Cornelia’s people rearing their ugly heads. 

Shez is really wondering how he is related to Thales, Tomas, and Cornelia. 

Ah, we recruit Balthus this time. Interesting. 

Metodey is on this map! My evil son! And he’s an Imperial General and not just a bandit this time.

Oh wait, Balthus is an ally, not an enemy? Very interesting indeed. I think that makes more allies you can recruit than the other two routes but I’m not sure. Technically he did join the other side but he’s decided to not help them since they are killing innocents. 

We aren’t even in Kingdom territory, they are just killing anyone really.

Myson! 

Metodey is dead. Myson says that we are only descendants of inconsequential beasts. 

Even the Western Church is like “nah man, I’m out of here, this slaughter sucks”. But we took them out for being assholes anyways. 

Whoa, Myson actually approaches Shez, asking how he got the power of Epimenides. Hmmm... his core? I guess that’s what is implanted into Shez. Then the asshole fled. 

Shez is starting to fear his power. He’s is sure he is connected to the Slithers now. 

Man, this route is doing a better job with the Slithers and Shez tbh. 

But I think SB still does the best with the Byleth/Shez dynamic, alas. 

Claude. Hi there. 

He’s trying to make it look like they are attacking the Empire to keep them distracted as we try to take back the monastery. I... kinda forgot that’s what we were doing, lol. 

Ah, those traitorous houses are keeping their lands for now, but have new people in place to keep them from being assholes again. 

No one really trusts Claude though. Which is a bit odd, since they really haven’t done anything to warrant this distrust in this route. 

Rodrigue is asking if Dimitri can strike down his stepsister.

“In a way, she and I are no different. Starting wars of our own volition”. UH, NO. HOLY FUCK, I AM SO TIRED OF THIS ROUTE INSISTING THEY STARTED A FUCKING WAR. 

FUCK YOU.

Whoa, Patricia left a note behind. 

It was a request from her to another traitorous house to help her kill her husband, and as well as express sympathies to the changes Lambert was bringing that the house was going so suffer through.

Dimitri says Patricia always looked past him, as if she was looking for something else entirely. 

“There is no guarantee that a parent will love their child” True, but cold as fuck. Did Patricia every truly love Dimitri? 

Shez would rather die than kill Dimitri (much to Arval’s horror)

Paralogues

Catherine, Ashe, and Yuri....

Catherine and Ashe talk about what happened in the past (but we don’t get to see it. Well, we learn about it in Houses anyways). 

Then Ashe went off. Now he’s in trouble, Ashe is surrounded. Catherine and Yuri are worried about him. 

The enemies are after Ashe. House Gaspard in particular. They probably think of him as a traitor. 

Yuri has a lot of confidence in him. He roots for him because they both came from nothing. 

Ashe starts to doubt himself and his chosen path. Thankfully, Yuri is very supportive and snaps him out of it and encourages him. 

Pallardo? Wtf, why is he here as the commander? 

Did we kill him? Will he not play a role in the main story like the other two routes? 

Well, it’s weird that Pallardo is the one who started the attack... like, why? Weird. A little forced, but I like the idea behind the paralogue overall. Just wish it wasn’t fucking Pallardo. 

Ok Yuri and Ashe.... now kiss.

Dimitri and Felix A - The only thing I find disappointing is I wish we got a bit more main story build up to this one But beyond that.....

Sylvain and Ashe A - Sylvain wants to steal Ashe for his territory (but Ashe only serves Dimitri). Dimitri, however, has asked Ashe to consider taking over Lonato’s territory instead of being a knight forever. Looks like Ashe is seriously considering it, especially for Lonato’s legacy. I like this support, seeing them being friends and stuff. Ashe is right, though, Sylvain has always been a serious man deep down. 

Dedue and Annette A - Dedue is stressing over the fact that the gap between him and Relic users is so big. He’s opening up. He’s jealous. But Annette says he is awesome (and he is!) because he can really just do about anything- sew, cook, garden, swing a big axe, woo Dimitri....

Mercedes and Ingrid A - Cute support. Not much to say, really. Just nice. Ingrid is looking out for her squires by being strict. Mercedes brings sweets. Mercedes just being a big sister, really. 

Mercedes and Annette A - A much better support chain than from Houses. Friends forever <3. Travel together, grow old together, and many more things. 

Annette and Shez A - Shez hasn’t seen sheet music before. Oh, and a mercenaries dying was singing Annette’s song till his last breath, smiling. That is fucking depressing as shit. 

Shez and Seteth A - With many saints resting at the monastery, it must be really hard to know that Seteth can’t go back to his home. To him, it was a safe haven at last, only to be taken away. Seteth at least is trusting Shez now. 

Shez and Flayn A - Flayn and Seteth were alone, only each other, for a very long time. Poor Flayn, she just wants a normal life, but being a dragon basically means she won’t be able to, huh?

Shez and Sylvain A - “I feel bad we roped you into this war” Uhh... Sylvain? Shez is from Foldan. The war is literally ALL over. He was roped into it by literally existing there. But you mean the battle on the kingdom side, fine, just bad wording. But Sylvain says they are fighting for their homes. The Kingdom is a rough place, but it’s theirs. Oh, and he’s still working on that gun. 

Shez and Felix B - Shez has a hard-to-read fighting style because he developed it himself. That’s... that’s it, really. Felix’s style is.... apparently “reacting to how things play out” which is how... fighting works, Shez.

Ingrid and Shez A - There has been some prosperity in the Kingdom despite the war. And Ingrid is thinking about how she can better help Dimitri in the future, like teaching farming, even if she couldn’t be a knight. Shez is going to have a hard time being everyone’s personal merc (he throws his offer to quite a few people in their A support). 

Shez and Felix A - Rodrigue taught Felix the fighting stuff. But it’s their family style of fighting for generations. But Felix is too keen, he feels like Shez talks to someone in his head in battle (and he is, lol). 

Felix and Ingrid A - Aw, Felix was worried that Ingrid may have gotten injured and came to check. And it’s nice to see Felix might be fucking learning a lesson, about “sentimentality” and maybe the dead helping the living. Then Felix suggests she go put flowers on Glenn’s grave. I liked this one. 

Felix and Sylvain A - Felix defended Sylvain when someone soldiers were talking smack about him. Felix, you tsundere. But uh, Sylvain, why did you have to play that role? You really honestly didn’t have to. That’s just bullshit. Holy fuck, Felix is blushing now, saying how Sylvain helps Dimitri and himself. 

Annette and Ashe A - Annette really wants to be a teacher. That’s it, really. (Maybe an implication there are more schools? Idk).

Ingrid and Sylvain A - Sylvain is such a big brother, lol. He is happy to see Ingrid eat a good meal. I mean, I know they can become a romantic couple, but eh. The four of the childhood friends are family. (Makes her death in SB hit even harder). 

Dimitri and Bernie A - What a waste. 

Literally, it’s just Flayn’s support about Dimitri eating food that tastes bad because he literally can’t taste. 

Except annoying as fuck. 

Shez and Dimitri A - Hm. Well, Hopes really want to push this idea that people don’t have a choice in life due to the way things are. Like... being a prince. Which is what Edelgard wants to end. So does Claude, technically. But... Dimitri’s choice in Houses when he decides to live for himself is to quite literally... to make his people life a happy and peacefully life. It’s really no different than what Hopes Dimitri wishes to do, honestly, just that he’s viewing it a bit differently. 

Plus, the truth is is that people sometimes don’t have a choice. That’s just life. I don’t have a choice to work. I have to work, I have to make money. Some people are rich enough to have that choice.

What about someone who has to care for another person? They didn’t get a choice either, unless they decide to abandon that person. 

The reality is is that life is not fair. And we must choose to live life we can with what was given to us. 

And technically speaking, Dimitri CAN abandon the throne if he really wants to. He just has too much of a strong sense of duty to even do that. 

I also think people are putting his “Upon my death” thing a little wrongly. Yes, he would be “happy to die”, but he also says he would be happy knowing that he created a world of peace for his people. Sure, it comes with his death, but it’s the idea that he could look back and see that he was able to make a difference throughout his entire life. 

It’s is a bit dismal since he can’t think of anything else, but I think most of the discourse around this particular line is just focusing on the wrong aspects of it. The real issue should be not the death part, but that it’s all he could think of. That he can’t focus on the more simple pleasures, the things like feasting with friends or watching a sunset. That’s the bigger issue. 

Dedue and Ingrid A - Dedue is a fucking giant, lol. But my man is a fountain of wisdom. “It’s human nature to generalize” Yup. This is a great support. Also, nice to see Ingrid’s love of food playing a bigger role in these supports. Oh...  oh no, Dedue is going to scold Dimitri for just walking around and going to places like a random inn, even if it’s run by a Duscur person and even if Ingrid is by his side, lol. Poor Dimitri. Poor Dedue.

Marianne and Ingrid C - Why wouldn’t Ingrid know that a horse would need more hay than oats? She’s... grown up around pegasi and shit.... :/ Also, I haven’t talked about this much, but Marianne basically being able to understand animals in such fine detail is basically a superpower. Is it a Crest thing? They never attribute it to Crests but surely it’s basically a crest thing. 

Dimitri and Mercedes A - Mercedes shows Dimitri the town she took shelter in. Dimitri hides the fact he is king, as he usually does. Basically, she is showing him what he is protecting. Places like this village, a nice little place where everyone is accepted. Then Mercedes teases Dimitri that she will just introduce him as someone very important (making him flustered, since it implies they are together). Of course, she was just teasing. Not really a ship I care about but it’s sweet. 

Shez and Dedue A - Very cute, just Dedue earning the trust of fellow Kingdom Knights, and that Dedue trusts Shez despite his powers. (Followed by if he did betray him or Dimitri he would cut him down in an instant, lol)

Shez and Catherine C - Man, I wish we could actually meet Count Charon. Catherine is basically just super loyal to Rhea, and for Shez to challenge himself and make his past self proud. 

Felix and Raphael C - Felix is being weirdly nice and sharing his food with the hungry guy. “Meat buddy” kek. And Petra is mentioned. Can you not get this support if you don’t recruit Petra, or does the line change? 

Catherine and Dedue C - Dedue is a little suspicious at first cause Catherine showed up out of nowhere. It’s a town of Duscur people and they don’t follow the teachings of Seiros. But Rhea decided to help the town out of the goodness of her heart, nothing more. (The town suffered a major fire). 

Damn, more “starting a war in the process for us” why tf does everyone keep forgetting the Empire started the war? 

Seteth and Yuri C - Yuri is investigating the Ten Elites because he doesn’t know where his Crest has come from. He had heard the Ten Elites did not get their Crests at birth so he wanted to start there. Seteth encourages him and says that not to hate the power but to cherish it. But Seteth clearly knows something more. 

Yuri and Dimitri C - “A funny knight” lol, cute way to describe Dimitri. (But what kid says “obtuse”, damn educated commoner kids, lol). (Also, Dimitri completely unfazed by being called “idiot”). Yuri is pissed that Dimitri is waltzing around unprotected and unguarded in unsafe streets, since if he dies a huge war of succession will break out. But Dimitri wants to learn about the commoners as much as possible, to see how they live and to understand them better. Then, Dimitri asks Yuri to protect him then, which Yuri finds amusing and agrees. 

What I find particularly ironic about this support is that Yuri says the area isn’t a outright slum but still dangerous to the king. However, in Houses, Dimitri quite literally lives in slums for 5 years. Dimitri in Houses def understand the common folk better than probably any nobles, and maybe even some commoners. 

Catherine and Dedue B - Catherine is impressed that trust between Duscur and the kingdom is there. Then they compare Rhea and Dimitri to each other, that they can’t abandon people in need. (Also, Catherine says that she not religious at all). And apparently Rhea and Dimitri are often seen with children. (Which is funny, because Dimitri worries about being with children since he doesn’t know how to act with them, yet he enjoys being with them). Damn, this entire support really tears down the “RHEA IS EVIL” nonsense, truly. 

Damn, but what a way to end that support “But if they cross swords, we would kill each other without hesitation.” Damn girl calm down.

Sylvain and Ignatz C - Some culture lore, there are different painting styles across the nations. Apparently the lady in the painting (an Imperal painting apparently) looks kind, like Lady Rhea per Ignatz’s words. Sylvain thinks the lady might be Miklan’s mother since she is from the Empire. 

Also, Sylvain is interested in fucking everything, kek. Saint Macuil is apparently associated with birds (lol, makes sense). Kingdom is also not super good with art, not in their general interests. But Sylvain is (despite it originally being because he wanted to impress the ladies).

Annette and Lorenz C - Lorenz mistook Annette for a maid years ago when they were back at the school of sorcery. And was an ass about it years ago. I still like Lorenz but yeah, he’s sometimes an ass to commoners. Lorenz left the school not long after that because of the Tragedy. 

Sylvain and Yuri C - Apparently, the two of them have been keeping an eye on each other. Sylvain has been waiting for Yuri to make a wrong move. But Yuri respects Sylvain, despite calling him cunning and very dangerous. But he’s right, Sylvain is dangerous, despite all the smiles and playing a fool often. I would even argue Sylvain is more dangerous than Felix or Dimitri. Those idiots wear their hearts on their sleeves. Sylvain is sneakier. In a way, Sylvain is kinda the Hubert to Dimitri, the clever one who keeps their ear to the ground and swords pointed to the backs of those they don’t trust. Except, Sylvain isn’t as evil or doesn’t stoop nearly as low. 

Whoever wrote Sylvain for Hopes really knew the character. I’m impressed. 

Annette and Ignatz C - Annette’s model literally just materialized, lol. Anyway, Ignatz is worried if he’s a good knight or not. So asks about Gustave, who is legendary. Apparently, he was just a soldier over 40 years ago at the royal castle. Lambert, who was still just a kid, was fucking around and fell off a ledge. Gustave saved his life by fucking throwing his spear and pinning the young prince’s clothes to a wall, saving his life. That got him promoted to being a knight. Then he changed his training to throwing a spear at leaves to a tree trunk. This motherfucker never missed a day of training (and it’s no wonder his training regiment with Dimitri was so... intense.). Ignatz becomes... disheartened. Who can blame him? Gustave doesn’t have a Crest but the dude is a legend. Why isn’t he as legendary as Holst?!

dumbledore is 116 years old at the time of his death (1997). he was 18 years old when he met and fell in love with grindelwald (who within the span of like several months to a year? went from being his boyfriend to uhhh a budding war criminal and his arch nemesis) (1899 BTFW).

Hiii zalyy. Uhh i just saw your recent post and i wanted to say that youre under no obligation to write if you're not feeling it or just don't want to anymore. You already know this but I just wanted to put it out there because forcing yourself to pump out works is exhausting and something i hope you never have to do.

I also want to add that it's okay if you don't post often. Like I think that was implied but like I hope you don't feel sad for not being able to post your ideas and works. You have your own life outside of tumblr and being here is something you do out of your own volition, not a responsibility. Uhhh basically wanna say i hope that you don't feel sad or stressed about the the time you take between posting fics!

That said, i want you to know that i truly enjoy your writing. i saw this a few days ago along with a similar ask, so im really sorry it took a while to respond…but can i just say i feel so touched that you actually wrote a whole ass essay to me 😭😭 like wow. you certainly didn’t have to go this far because i am literally NOT worth it, but thank you so much for this anyway ;;

its weird how i always initially view writing as a hobby, and then at some point suddenly look at it only to feel like i’m being obligated to do it,, or at least satisfy people for the sake of it. i mean, i like writing, i like making people happy, i have a shit ton of amazing drafts left without completion, but at some point it does get taxing,,, and at the same time the urge to write starts to get sort of inconsistent. i like it but i hate it 😭 and probably the weirdest thing about it

that said, reading stuff like this actually motivates me to write some stuff again — not because i feel guilt tripped into staying — but because things like this make it feel worth writing, knowing that someone out there is still willing to read and interact with any of my works. and it’s upsetting to see how some passionate and talented people on tumblr decided to quit or put a pause on writing, because they felt like they gave a lot of effort producing all these amazing fics for nothing.

i definitely have the better hang of juggling real life and writing this time, and i’m hoping that during this (potentially) last month, i won’t feel too stressed or burned out by it like i did before.

1) Who is your favorite character to write for and is this the character you find easiest to write for?

I love writing for Carmen if it wasn't clear already. She comes easily to me and its easiest too put her in scenarios tm. I actually don't often write for others but I really want to experiment with it.

2) What is your favorite fic of yours?

Hmmm. Good question and one I'm not sure I know the answer to. I like Upon the Sword, and I also really like a few of the shorter ones like the cardinal and the kitten and and the world was framed with red. currently a few wips are occupying my headspace as well

3) What fic of yours do you think is underrated?

uhhh and the world was framed with red I guess. I'm happy with all of my fics though. i think i could have made that one more engaging and have better street appeal tho

4) What fic of yours were you surprised by how popular it was?

well, I started out writing on wattpad- I posted two chapters of a fic and came back months later (i forgot lol) to a bunch of requests for me to continue. that really surprised me, and the relative popularity of upon the sword and love, carmen surprised me there too.

5) Do you like one shots or multi-chapters?

I like both but I usually do multi-chapters :D

6) Do you outline your fics? If so, how?

very, very chaotic bullet point lists usually. I will generally jot down an idea I have and if its lucky ill come and write down some base plot points. from there i'll usually fill in points for an "arc" and then set off (or start the fic and then fill in the plot...more usually. oops). one time for i think hearts and stars i did a full 20+ page document full of character outlines, motivations, emotions, and relationships with others plus plot, character goals, brainstorming, notes, title ideas, tons of blurbs, scene ideas, and even a mini screenplay format scene which i eventually added back in.

7) How do you edit your fics? What do you look for in your edits?

I usually write chunks at a time and when I start a new writing section I read the entire thing over and edit what doesn't read correctly for me. If something doesn't work and its a really big mistake I either ignore it (wow such writer lol) or entirely rework the plot to fix it lmao

8) Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorporate it into your fics?

Uhh sometimes, yes. It sort of depends on what you mean- when I get injured, I take pictures of the blood or bruises for future reference. I write detailed synopses of pain and unique traumatic medical experiences, plus any depressive or anxious episodes I may go through. Uhmm lets see...I do a lot of research for some bits of the story and I'm often inspired by other things. they help me incorporate a sense of emotion and some realism. i also take inspiration from romantic body language I see portrayed in real life and media because I have 0 experience in that department

9) Do you visualize scenes in your head before you write them? (Can you picture the setting, character body language etc)

oh GOSH yes. currently for say you'll share with me one love one lifetime the scene I have planned for the (eventual) chapter 3 has been runnign through my mind for...maybe months. I plan out a basic action first, usually- in this case a specific consequence of carmne's injury and build a scene around it- who, where, the reaction, the aftermath, how to make it gayer, and how to make it tie in with everything else.

10) How do you feel about writing plot, setting/description, inner thoughts, dialogue?

hate plot honestly. could do without it, but you cant is the thing so i usually wing it (im trying to get better lol). i thrive on setting and description, LOVE that shit. inner thoughts are very fun to do and I like trying to weave a lot of emotion in there. dialogue is...ok. usually i feel a bit awkward with it unless I really get lucky (like a bit of dialogue I feel pretty proud of is the scene in hearts and stars where ivy asks carmen why she doesn't see herself as a person in chapter 11 and i think that confidence is reflected in my reader's reactions from what I've seen :3)

You are either the worst influence, or the best. You are both. Both of those things. 

Well shit, okay, it’s Spicy Ben Takes time!

So you know that thing in fandom where Ben gets credited as Klaus’ babysitter, the voice of reason that has managed to keep Klaus alive all these years? The viewpoint that Klaus is going to fall apart post-s2 without Ben there to help take care of him? I’m here to say that canon suggests the opposite is true.

Having someone watching you limits your freedom to make your own choices — or to put it another way, having someone watching you is an extra factor to weigh during the decision-making process. Unfortunately, people are complicated and messy and the Hargreeves are especially so, and so that extra factor is not always going to weigh in favor of making better choices.

And Ben and Klaus are siblings. 

There might be nothing more powerful than sibling-induced stubbornness. There was some musical artist that my older sister liked that I said was bad, and then when I realized they were good actually, I kept pretending to hate them until some time after we’d both graduated high school. In turn, because I listened mostly to movie scores, my little brother declared that any music without lyrics was bad and all sounded the same. He had to listen to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 and the opening track to The Dark Knight and tell us that they sounded so alike that he couldn’t tell them apart. 

He HAD TO do this. I don’t have a name as good as the Cain Instinct to describe it, but I submit that the inability to admit fault in front of a sibling runs as deep, if not deeper. It’s something to do with pride, probably, and more importantly the second part of this phrase: you can’t admit that you’re wrong or you’ll never hear the end of it. You aren’t going to fall out of touch when you graduate or whatever, this person will be around for the rest of your life reminding you of this fuckup whenever it benefits them, for forever.

So, to take a common fandom scenario, if Ben says Klaus should go to rehab and get clean? Klaus can’t just do that, especially if Ben has said it before and Klaus established that his side of issue was that he didn’t want to. If Klaus decides he does want to go to rehab after Ben has been on his case about it, then Ben can claim for the rest of forever that he’s the reason that Klaus is sober now, and that would be super fucking annoying when dealing with addiction is such deeply personal work. It’s a lose scenario however you slice it (which is very typical for sibling stupidity — it’s a fight that you lose as soon you decide it’s worth fighting over).

Now okay, let’s back up and be clear here. Klaus falling prey to sibling-induced stubbornness isn’t Ben’s fault. I’m not suggesting that Ben is actively standing in Klaus’ way, or that Klaus would have made the choice on his own to go to rehab had Ben not suggested it first. I’m saying that Ben’s presence simply makes it a harder thing to do, a larger mountain for Klaus to climb, on a journey that is already intimidating enough on its own.

And Ben is always there. There’s no space for Klaus to go off on his own and cool down and admit to himself that he is being stupid. Irritation can only build and build for years with no relief — irritation on both sides. 

So, yeah. Very unintentionally, Ben advocating for Klaus’ sobriety may in fact be a hinderance to that sobriety being achieved in actuality. Klaus might have more motivation to make good choices and less inclination to make bad choices when he doesn’t have a brother constantly watching over his shoulder.

But don’t just take my word for it! There are a few spots in canon that bear this interpretation out. I first got this in my head when I compared the ending of s1 and s2 — instead of leaving Vanya alone, Klaus comes out to join her in s2, which prompts the others to come as well and seems to turn out better than s1. No moons are exploded in the making of s2. Of course Ben is not the only difference in the situation, and of course we don’t know if Klaus would have made a similar choice if Ben was there advocating for it. What we do know for sure is that Klaus is capable of making good choices on his own.

We also see a couple of times that following Ben’s advice is not always a great choice. In s2, telling the cult the truth doesn’t do anything useful, and going after Luther in 1x07 gets Klaus killed. It seems like the time that Klaus was living his most well-adjusted healthiest life was when he was in Vietnam, without Ben. 

This is all to say that no, Klaus does not need Ben to be able to take care of himself. There’s more reasons to believe that Klaus will fare better without Ben’s constant presence. Surely there are aspects of his life that will be sadder, and emptier, without the brother that was such a fixture of his life for so long. But there will absolutely be parts of his life that are better, too. That’s one of those things that makes loss and grief so painful and guilty, isn’t it?

So actually maybe this is all to say, I would really love to see some more fandom takes that explore this complicated, flawed dynamic, and less of the one-dimensional ‘Babysitter Ben’ trope. Ben Is a Nuanced Individual With Flaws and Whose Actions Sometimes Cause Unintended and Unfortunate Consequences, and All of This Makes Him More Interesting and None of it Makes Him Evil 2k21!! (is that still a thing people do?)
