My pro-Allison rant... Kinda...

Unpopular opinion S3 Allison isn't THAT bad... I mean yeah she's a bitch and was horrible throughout the whole season but I feel like the hate for her is way overblown, like somehow even worse than for S1 Luther when it aired... Like, yes, you can hate a character for their actions but it seems like everyone is convinced that her character is destroyed forever, that they won't give her any chance of forgiveness, and that other people shouldn't even be allowed to like her or use footage from S3 in edits or whatever (????). I understand that sexual assault specifically is a trigger to many people, but even then that was clearly something she didn't think through and you can see in the scene itself that she realized she shouldn't have done that (and stopped it before it could go further, like let's remember that it didn't go past a kiss, I know that she still violated Luther's consent by rumoring him, but again, you can definetely see on the scene that she didn't think it through, stopped it and even ran in distress... I know she didn't apologize which she should've but she also didn't stand by it like she did with all her other shitty actions like killing Harlan). I also feel like you have to consider that, at least in part, it's just shitty writing. I see a lot of people saying "Actually this makes total sense based on pre-s1 Allison that we never saw but was implied to be trash" or "it was like that in the comics", but that doesn't change anything, because for me the real bad part is the fact that the writers clearly don't understand the weight of everything she did, because, outside of Viktor being mad at her for killing Harlan, and Five being mad at the deal, she doesn't even get any shit from anyone. They had Five somehow defend her murdering Harlan (??), and everyone just acted like it was just some personal sibling conflict between her and Viktor that they should stay out of, or even considered it a good reason too just because Ben wanted it... And the thing with Luther is only acknowledged once. So, I really don't think the writers intention was to make her an unredeemable monster. I feel like in the next season the characters will mostly brush it off and forgive her, kinda like they did with Viktor ending the world, killing Pogo, slashing Allison's throat. Or Lila trying to kill everyone. Which is not me giving them shit. It's more about pointing out the pattern of the writing in this show for huge fuck ups to be forgiven like that. The difference is that S1 Viktor succeeded in being sympathetic for the audience because we could easily empathize with his trauma and understand that all he went through is what made him "go bad". I think the writers' intention was for that to be the case with Allison too over her grief for Claire (and Ray), but it just didn't work because they went too far, and made her so easy to hate.

[disclaimer. this post was from a handful of months ago but it prob still applies. it’s also pretty angry!! sorry abt that lol. i do realize that most people doing this aren’t aware or trying to be malicious. it’s kind of a rant post. originally i wasn’t gonna post it but my mutual said i should lol. anyway here it is]

okay the cross tagging in the tua fandom has gotten way out of hand. i’m just really frustrated right now because this is ridiculous. if you want someone to see your post, tag it correctly. don’t add a bunch of random fandom related tags about characters that aren’t even mentioned just so you can get more notes.

there is actually a Reason for this alright? it’s not just rules for the sake of rules. when you tag in an unrelated tag, it clogs it up with posts that aren’t related (stay w me here). so if someone’s looking through their favorite character’s tag they don’t want to see a random incorrect quote in the general fandom NOT EVEN MENTIONING THE CHARACTER. when it gets really intense, it’s difficult to even find posts that mention the character (cough cough the ben hargreeves tag cough cough)

tagging is an organization system that helps people find stuff. you are making it ineffective and frustrating to use by crosstagging. please stop.

pls do not:

-tag “character a” in a post about “character b” and “character c” because they are all in the same show/book/video game etc

-tag an incorrect quotes post with every character in the fandom. (you know who you are. yes i’m targeting iq acc’s because they do this A LOT but lots of ppl do it!!)

-tag a general post about tua with the characters (this one has nuance, like many other things in the world. just use your best judgement like i trust you!!!)

also usually i wouldn’t tag a fandom post about fictional characters with the actors that play them??? like it would have to be a v specific situation so idk why people do this. you are not writing analysis of emmy raver lampman?? hello??

anyway lmk if you have any more tips. i’m not the tagging police (ACAB) so take everything i say with a grain of salt because i am not the ruler of the tua fandom or tumblr! i’m just seeing a problem in this community that i know other people are bothered by. alr live your life just be considerate of other ppl while ur doing ur thing 👍

it’s really not something that you have to obsess or worry about whether you’re doing it just keep it in mind!!!

That did it. That line made me feel so icky. My headcanon? I think he held two conflicting views: he and Dolores had real sex, yet he was still a virgin. I read his insanity regarding Dolores as permeable. Logically, he knows what she is and what he was doing, but she feels real emotionally so he chooses to live in the reality where they're a loving couple. Because Five knew Dolores's anatomy wasn't really suitable to fulfil his needs, Dolores also knew that. I imagine they had an agreement: if she and Five ever escape the apocalypse, he is free to sleep with other people. I don't imagine he stayed a virgin long after joining the commission. In one of my fics, Alias Number Five, I have him having an awkward but sweet first-time with a sex worker in New Mexico.

Alright I’m seeing a lot of people saying that “oh we’re only coming after Allison cause she’s black what about the other characters and what they did?!”

No. NO. It’s not cause she’s a black woman at all.

I wanted to fucking murder Diego in season 2 when he wouldn’t shut up about JFK and ACTIVELY tried to ruin shit.

I wanted to lock up ALL the sibs (besides Klaus and Ben) in season 1 for the way they treated Viktor but I also wanted to fucking deck him myself because he was being a little BITCH.

People keep talking about Allison losing Clair and how she’s justified in killing Harlan bc he killed their (the umbrellas) mothers, and therefore killed Clair, first of all no he didn’t kill Clair she just never fucking EXISTED in the fucking first place bc Allison didn’t exist.

BUT THEY ALSO FORGET THAT ALLISON DIDNT EVEN HAVE CUSTODY OF CLAIR BC SHE ACTIVELY AND ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS RUMORED HER OWN FUCKING DAUGHTER AND HER ORIGINAL HUSBAND DIDNT STAND FOR THAT. AND IN SEASON 2???? SHE DIDNT GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT CLAIR CAUSE SHE FOUND RAY.

As soon as she’s back in the future (a completely DIFFERENT future like Five tries to tell them but they’re all literally dumbasses) she’s immediately all about “finding my daughter” and “finding Clair” BITCH YOU DIDNT CARE ABOUT HER FOR LIKE 2/3 YEARS WHEN YOU WERE WITH RAY!

I’ve never liked Allison, I kinda hated Luther and even the rest for treating Viktor the way they did but for the first 2 seasons I actively disliked multiple characters choices/actions. But what Allison did was unforgivable and I despise that she got her happily ever after (at least for now) while the others suffered/are going to suffer and I hate that they kept choosing to trust her.

hot take: the key to understanding what the hell happened to allison is that they writers were trying to give us what we should've gotten with allison in earlier seasons, that they were too cowardly to do at the time.

s1 allison should've been bitter, irrational, out of control and compulsively rumoring people to deal with the loss of custody of her daughter. we should've seen allison use her rumor to force herself onto someone, but that someone should've been patrick, in a flashback showing how they got together. and we should be seeing allison eat herself alive with guilt over it, not coolly breezing past it. juxtapose allison's denial over what she did to patrick with what she did to vanya. furthermore, she should've lost faith in vanya after the throat-slitting, shouldn't have advocated for her in the basement, and should've been trying to kill her with the guys in the climax. the gun was five's to point at the white violin.

s2 allison should've been hyperfocused on escaping the past and returning to claire. no centrist civil rights plot, no plotfiller fanservice marriage to raymond, no conveniently having her rumor back. she should have spent the season learning to live without her powers and the fear she lived in during the 1960s should've been shown to us when she was actually in the 1960s. she should've been cold to vanya for disabling her and killing her daughter. and like in the comics, allison should've made a deal with the devil [the commission, not reginald] to do something that makes the family take sides against her [orchestrating the jfk assassination] to secure the repair of her vocal cords/return of her power, save five and luther from obliteration, and gain her and her family's return to the present... only to realize the commission screwed her and sent her to a future where claire doesn't exist.

which would have opened the door to s3 allison grieving her daughter's loss, getting a romantic culmination with luther after two seasons of buildup, and reopening her relationship with vanya/viktor since now it's just as much allison's own fault for losing claire, she has her powers back, and she's also done some heinous shit driven by grief and desperation, she'd be open to showing vanya/viktor compassion they'd need given that 7's plotline ought to have been evaluating whether to ditch the umbrellas for the sparrows, a la the comics; since the family is capable of forgiving allison for her commission betrayal, they can do the same for the white violin ending the world.

and... great that those clowns finally realized how poorly they treated her character, but it's too late. the only way to do those things they should've done was at the cost of assassinating and regressing her character.

this is not an anti allison hargreeves account. this is an anti season three allison hargreeves account. and by that, i mean the way she was written for a majority of the season.

and before anyone comes at me for being ”anti black” or ”anti female” let me make this clear: i am a young woman of color who watches the umbrella academy. i understand that all of the hargreeves are flawed due to their upbringing and i understand that each and every sibling has their respective issues. i understand that allison has been through several traumatic events in a short period of time, including discovering her daughter no longer exists. that does not mean i support things like allison nearly assaulting luther (if you think that’s okay get off my blog immediately and i mean immediately) or her behavior towards viktor and harlan. the writers did her extremely dirty all to set up her ”villain arc” and i couldn’t even watch some scenes at all because they triggered my anxiety.

allison used to be one of my favorite characters, but now she makes me extremely uncomfortable because of how she was written and that makes me sad.

Ayo so I tottaly get Allison being emotionally distraught in season 3 it makes sense, I don’t like it though. The shit she pulled?? I’m not fucking with it. I was all like wtf girlie I liked you for a bit there. (Lowkey really wanted to see an actual scene of her beating the shit out of conservatives instead of flashes) Like she just when downhill FAST after Viktors coming out. Like Bitch wtf are you doing. Like yeah you lost people. Yeah it hurts. Yeah this is 3 consecutive times of just stressed out—but guess what—SO IS EVERYONE ELSE HERE, Five hasn’t gotten a break in 30 damn days!! Like I know you need time to process this shit but like killing Harlan is comparable to a hypothetical Viktor killing Claire.

And she thinks she didn’t do anything wrong? Like “I’m hurting so I’m going to make sure my brother feels the same damn way I do, (even though he also lost the love of this life too) and I’m not going to apologize but get angry at him because Harlan was genuinely accidentally responsible for all of this?” Like how the fuck is that okay.

Also how quickly all the sparrows die off?? I’m sorry but that was just uncool with me. I liked Jayme and Alphonso’s dynamic, I wanted to see more of it! I like Marcus he was so cool! And Fai? LOVE HER I WANT MORE SHES SO BADASS. What where some of the sparrows big crime fighting stories? Like I wanted both of the entire families coming together in some way shape or form to the boss battle. I wanted Sloane’s family to see her get married, not just Ben.

And don’t get me STARTED on how underwhelming the ending to this season was. Like so just Allison gets her happily ever after with her daughter and Ray? Like um okay. Luther doesn’t get a happily ever after with Sloane (that was obviously stated) and Everyone else is just screwed over on Hargreaves-topia?? Sorry but no thanks. Also there is NO mention of Davey at ALL in this season or even Klaus offhandedly mentioning what ended up happening to him. I want ANSWERS people!!

Like I’m unsure if there is going to be a season 4 or not, everything seems mostly tied up (however messily that is) but if there is here is some genuine shit I want to see happen.

-Allison being happy with Ray and Claire, realizing something is missing. Her family. She tries to reconnect and no one wants to see her. She then tries reconnecting with Viktor and he straight up tells her off. Like a whole, “I don’t care if you feel bad. You hurt us. And you aren’t even sorry because only you got your happily ever after. I hope you feel bad that we aren’t in your life. After all, you chose this.”

-everyone reconnecting with birth moms/Biological families/biological family history

-Sparrows somehow meeting up together and just being happy together

-*slams drink down on table* MORE HIMBO LUTHER, I LOVE HIMBO LUTHER, WE ALL LOVE HIMBO LUTHER
