And can we talk about how the makeup is... non-existent? In this series to make you understand that someone is a vampire they apply on them goggle eyes and expect from us to not fucking start laughing at their clown faces. Now, it's true that the wigs were horrible in some scenes and the makeup wasn't always flawless, BUT THEY PROVED TO ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN EFFORT. While this producer is like "these ones are very stupid fans, they won't notice a damn thing because they only care about the show to be gay and to hear some random angsty sentences about how good it is to kill like God and blah blah blah" and put some lens found in the swamps in Louisiana, attached to their eyeballs to make them appear like a cross-eyed cat with rabies.

And believe me, I want it to be gay. It HAS to be. But I also want quality. They think they can exchange the two things. I EXPECT quality from a story that has as absolute protagonist BEAUTY. EXCELLENCE IN DECADENCE. HEDONISM. And now you tell me: but they have low budget!! NO. NO. I WON'T BE TOLERANT. Because if you have in your hands a project that you recognize as something with an enormous potential like this story and you KNOW you don't have enough budget for it, then you drop it. If you have respect for art, then you leave it to someone who has the means to make it flourish. But they didn't. And you know why? Very simple. Because they are exploiting the fame and the potential of this story to rebrand their whole company (which they also kind of admitted themselves but with more innocent-looking words, of course). Yes, they're still using the potential but only like 5% of it, which is the max their miserable company can handle. And you know why it will work? Because the potential of these books is so enormous that even that percentage is enough to attract the attention of an average amount of people, even to just have something to watch while you eat. And they know this. 😉✨

They know that Amc is not that famous. It has too few big names and if you take a look at all the other series that they produce you'd have a taste of how low their writing skills are. So the vampire chronicles was a juicy prey to use, to give luster to their name. The only inconvenience was that extraordinarily talented people to work with in the writing process and in the creation of settings and costumes are too expensive. So they downgraded everything, knowing that with the right strategic decisions in the advertising process, they would have bought the attention of the public. They also know that people's taste is generally mediocre and therefore they eat anything that the producers present on their plates, but that's for another time. Another strategic decision has been to shift this bookseries from horror to... fantasy? Gothic romance? Can we call it gothic if it's an insult to the gothic genre?? We can only call it edgy emo romance I think, because with those random edgy sentences about God and blood while such low quality goes on the screen makes me only think about two emo boys in love.

SO, since this is edgy emo romance now, they know that the audience the series will be exposed to is muuuuuuuuuch larger. And this will allow AMC to be known even more and much faster. It will give them prestige and status. So with some changes here and there on display, here you have the perfect advertisement done studying what people say on social media (and therefore not because they're genuinely good people who did the changes because they are 😇evolving✨😇), the perfect kind of targeted audience (which is us internet people who think we're so out of the schemes!! We're so smart!! Superior to normies!! We absolutely can't fall in marketing traps, am I right??? 😉😉😉). Horror is not only the splatter, the gore. It's also the psychological state it makes you live in. This means that the characters are abusive. Manipulative. Verbally violent. But Amc knows that people on tumblr dot com expects to receive life lessons by the same fucking monsters who would actually eat them alive if they met them in the streets. They know. They know. And they're exploiting this weakness that alters your judgment, your artistic taste. Not to give an example. To earn money. They understood that this is the new way to earn money with a tv series now.

And now you'll say: gnignignigni but what's the problem?? At least they're doing something good, I don't care if they do it just to earn money. YOU SHOULD CARE, YOU DUMB FUCK. Because when things are done in this way, representation is done awfully. In an artistic product there's no art. No quality, just a product to sell. Not something that will make history in the human race, but only one product in the sea of many others. Exploiting this era, in which we consume any type of tv series just because they're tv series, the trendy thing of the moment. They know this series will be watched for this reason too. The quality of a tv series for us it's not important anymore. We watch it anyway, like dogs who eat anything even when it's bad, what's important is that it's food right? That it's a tv series, right?

Even when it's sold repeating the key words that people on the internet write in their essays on tumblr dot com when they feel like playing the role of the sociologist. You really think you're too smart to be fooled, uh?

you're in the habit of denying yourself things.

if someone asked you directly, you would say that you love a little treat. you like iced coffee and getting the cookie. you drink juice out of a fancy cup sometimes, and often do use your candles until they gutter out helplessly.

but you hesitate about buying the 20 dollar hand mixer because, like. you could just use your arms. you weren't raised rich. you don't get to just spend the 20 dollars (remember when that could cover lunch?), at least - you don't spend that without agonizing over it first, trying to figure out the cost-benefits like you are defending yourself in front of a jury. yes, this rice cooker could seriously help you. but you do know how to make stovetop rice and it really isn't that hard. how many pies or brownies would you actually make, in order to make that hand mixer worthwhile?

what's wild is that if the money was for a friend, it would already be spent. you'd fork over 40 without blinking an eye, just to make them happy. the difference is that it's for you, so you need to justify it.

and it sneaks in. you ration yourself without meaning to - you don't finish the pint of ice cream, even though you want to. the next time you go to the store, you say ah, i really shouldn't, and then you walk away. you save little bits of your precious things - just in case. sometimes you even go so far as putting that one thing in your shopping cart. and then just leaving it there, because maybe-one-day, but not right now, there's other stuff going on.

you do self-care, of course. but you don't do it more than like, 3 days in a row. after that it just feels a little bit over-the-edge. like. you can't live in decadence, the economy is so bad right now, kid.

so you don't buy the rice cooker. you can-and-will spend the time over the stove. you can withstand the little sorrows. denial and discipline are practically synonyms. and you're not spoiled.

it's just - it's not always a rice cooker. sometimes it is a person or a job or a hug. sometimes it is asking for help. sometimes it is the summer and your college degree. sometimes it is looking down at scabbed knees and feeling a strange kind of falling, like you can't even recognize the girl you used to be. sometimes it is your handprint looking unsteady.

sometimes it is tuesday, and you didn't get fired, and you want to celebrate. but what is it you like, even? you search around your little heart and come up empty. you're so used to denying that all your desires draw a blank.
