based on.... certain news about certain star wars tv shows, i've been thinking how one of the Defining Characteristics of star wars media i enjoy is, well, Having an End Goal.
it's a line that runs through, and i'm not saying it's causation, but...
Lucas didn't have everything planned out in the OT, obviously, but he knew where they were going (ending the Empire). the PT had a specific end goal from word one (the Fall of the Republic). the clone wars: the end of the PT. rogue one: the beginning of ANH....
all of my favorite parts of star wars, right there.
whereas... the parts of star wars without an end goal are just kind of... Well. Look at the ST, which went so...the way it went that we haven't seen any follow-ups for it. look at tbobf, which had no goal, no direction (to the point that it got hijacked halfway through by another show).
there are exceptions to this rule, of course. the Solo movie, for example, arguably had an end goal, it just...fizzled anyway.
and OWK, i'd argue, didn't really have an end goal (at least, not an immediate one. ANH is still ten years distant), but it appealed to me for whatever reason (sad ewan mcgregor).
anyway, i just have been thinking about this while cleaning and now it is all typed up and it really holds true, for me, so....

If I had the time I would go through video and debunk all of the jabs the OP unsubtly digs at the Jedi masters.
Legit the first minuet in and he calls Ki-Adi-Mundi a psychopath. Like bro. I don’t think you armchair psychologists actually understand the words that passes through your mouths.
youtube
Looking at the comments I’m filled with rage ngl.
Tumblr media
There is no tapping into the dark side for the good of others. The dark side isn’t some quaint power boost that people can use Willy nilly and come back without consequences. It corrupts absolutely. There’s no such thing as “oh lemme just tap into this side of the force that corrupts absolutely to save people uwu” when it would usually become “oh shit I tapped into the dark side cuz I wanted to save people but it twisted my desires and in the end I ended up not only not saving the people I wanted to save, but also wrecked destruction onto other innocents.”
Tumblr media
Also congrats on grievously misunderstanding what Vaapad is OP. It’s a twist on Form VII the Ferocity form (aka forbidden Jedi kata since if the practitioner isn’t firmly in the light the passion channeled can and will corrupt absolutely). Mace Windu created this form as a way to channel his own personal darker emotions. It doesn’t control him as the original form VII does. Literally we have Sidious saying that Form VII is closer to a Sith Form than a Jedi Form since it can and will corrupt the practitioner. Mace Windu did not use the dark side when using Vaapad. There’s a reason that the other “co-creator” of Vaapad when he fell to the dark side and tried to use Vaapad to defeat Mace still failed. It’s because Vaapad is a firmly light side Form and using the dark side of the force when using the Form will mean you fundamentally fail At understanding the base of the form.
Tumblr media
Why can’t Star Wars fans understand that there is no “balance” between the light side of the force and the dark side? The light side is balance. The dark side is an abbreviation on the natural state of being. And comparing Emerald Lightning that Plo Koon uses to Sith lightning, a technique that is STATED, to be a twisted abomination of five usage, is disingenuous and a bad faith reading of the comics.
I could screenshot every comment on this video and write essays on how they’re wrong but I actually value my time and I really do not want to engage in media that I disagree with. Blah blah echo chamber, what of it? If people can be blinded by their own beliefs that grey Jedi exist I can also refuse to engage in it. I clicked on the video thinking it would be a nice meta explaining the different colours we see in KOTOR and the new Ashoka show but instead I get a very thinly veiled Jedi bashing video.

Back in my day, you had to sift through thousands of probe droid reports with the best hope being that you'd find a lead to the location of the Rebel Base. And yet, we still found the Rebel Base.
Nowadays, no one can find anything without an ancient map of some sorts directly leading to a specific individual and various supernatural nonsense. Worse still, the new generation has no idea whatsoever how to handle incomplete maps. They fall to pieces if they can't find the last piece.
Do you know how many pieces of a map to Luke Skywalker Captain Needa and I received during my career? Absolutely 0. You worked with what you had, and if that went awry, you were Force choked.
Do you know how many special Force sensitive tricks I had access to in the event that I could not locate Grand Admiral Thrawn? Absolutely 0. If I needed to contact him urgently, I called the Chimaera and was transferred 15 times with a total hold time of 6 hours before finally reaching his voice mail.
And so, next time I hear another living soul complaining about missing map pieces, I am going to throw my caf at them.

i think dave filoni was so humiliated by fans roasting him for admittting he doesn't have any idea where the mando story is going that he was desperate to change the subject so he decided to distract everyone by saying the dumbest possible thing he could think of and the first thing that came to mind was "luke isn't really a jedi" because literally what other explanation is there for that string of words

It confuses me so much when I read/watch someone complain about the Ghost crew being so prominent in the Ahsoka show.
They are a big part of her story! She would quite literally be DEAD without Ezra's intervention, so doesn't it follow that she would keep her promise to come find him?
And if we are going to have Thrawn as a major live-action villain, they can't just not address the two seasons he spent going up against these people.
It just reads as a bunch of people who wouldn't watch Rebels because it's a "kids show" being butthurt when they realize that it's an important part of canon.
(Sorry for the rant....I just have a lot of feelings about this show)

I am once again filled with extreme rage and frustration at Her Universe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I discovered these pants thanks to an IG reel that has the tagline “this one’s for our Rebels fam” immediately showing the faces of….Ahsoka and Bo Katan. Seeing the full design we see that both Kanan and Zeb have been cut in favor of two characters not apart of the Ghost Crew while trying to pretend these pants are “for Rebels fans”. Bo is only in two episodes of all of Rebels and Ahsoka is only really their in season 2. It is also certainly a…choice to Have Ahsoka at the very top of what is supposed to be Rebels merch. The order of characters also is….a choice. It’s placing two characters not even in the Ghost Crew above the actual Ghost Crew (or who was allowed to be apart of the merch) with Ahsokas placement seemingly positioning her as…well Kanans replacement which is a reoccurring theme with merch having Ahsoka replacing Kanan and it feel’s especially gross and ableist given how Filoni used Kanan as a human sacrifice to bring her back.
It seems no matter when the merch is from certain members of the crew are consistently getting cut out and it’s so frustrating. Regularly their is “rebels” merch only showing Hera, Sabine and Ahsoka. It’s really more of a girl power thing but they want Rebels fans so they pretend it’s Rebels merch. These stupid pants can’t even have that “excuse” because Ezra and Chopper are on them. It’s just Kanan and Zeb who are cut out and replaced for some bizarre reason I can’t really fathom. It’s almost like Her Universe wants Ahsoka to be the leader but they realized how fucked up it would be to only replace Kanan so they tossed in Bo to try and pretend that’s not what they’re doing. How can they market this as something for the “Rebels fam” while cutting out a third of the Ghosts crew? Let that sink in, a third of the crew is missing and replaced but somehow this is Rebels merch?
Ontop of all of that the Ghost Crew members allowed to be on this merch just look wrong. The proportions of Hera’s head vs Leku are all wrong, this is what she looks like in the show
Tumblr media
She has a long and pointed chin and her Lekku don’t extend that much further past the bottom of her chin.
Tumblr media
Taking a close up look at the merch her chin is much shorter and rounded and her Lekku are significantly longer. This also causes the spacing to feel wrong and inconsistent with how much empty space this creates between her and Ezra below her.
Sabines helmet is also missing quiet a bit of detailing that Bo’s helmet for some reason is allowed to have.
Tumblr media
I think this is the helmet they’re supposed to be recreating but again details are missing while Bo’s details are correct.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The colors seem wrong so they couldn’t even get her right lol. But my bigger point is the argument that they had to cut out details just doesn’t hold up at all given Bo’s have those details. And if for some reason they couldn’t then just…use Sabines face not her helmet. If you can’t get the helmet right don’t use it.
Tumblr media
Chopper is unfortunately so blurry it’s hard to comment on him properly but poor Ezra looks sickly with his skin tone. This is what he normally looks like in show.
Tumblr media
And in the patch his skin is lighter and well yellow looking. Ahsoka is conveniently the only character they seemed to bother getting the details right on and it’s frustrating, this is supposed to be Rebels merch but really it’s just more Ahsoka merch with other Ghost Crew members slapped on so they can pretend to care when they just don’t.

On the one hand, I deeply hate that the Rebels Sequel was shunted over into Ahsoka, but on the other I don’t even know what story they could tell with Ahsoka at this point. She’s not interesting, at all. Filoni has sucked every good part of her character out to make her look like the perfect Grey Jedi (does not actually exist per the lore of the universe) and all the characters she actually had semi interesting relationships with are dead.
Anakin’s gone, Obi-Wan’s gone, Padmé’s gone, if Rex isn’t gone he’s ancient, and since she’s not sticking around with Luke there’s literally no one left but the Ghost Crew. So she’s shoved into Rebels 2 and eventually Felony gets his grubby little hands on it and it becomes an Ahsoka show.

Rey: *Lifts rocks with the Force and holds back a ship*
"Oh my gosh look at how OP she is! That should take years, decades of training! Actually not even Yoda himself could do that, she's breaking the entire Star Wars universe! Mary Sue! Feminist girlboss power fantasy! Kathleen Kennedy self-insert!"
Ahsoka Tano: *Is connected to the all-powerful World-Between-Worlds such that she can just accidentally fall into it to save her life, kills Jedi-hunters in a single move, is declared to be better than all the other Jedi by virtue of some nonsense training Anakin gave her, also holds back a ship piloted by a Sith Lord, survives all the eras of Star Wars, and looks ready to inherit the position of Daughter thus exalting herself into godhood.*
"Now that's how you do a female character! Not a Mary Sue like Rey Palpatine!"

I thought the Kylo/Rey we got in canon was super lackluster but it had potential. Fanon Kylo/Rey is so much better.
I think they had so much going for them in the first two movies, and the third movie was just a mess with less intensity. The Last Jedi is my favorite sequel movie, partially because of how intense and raw their connection is.
I actually haven’t looked too much into Reylo fic (shame on me!) but yeah, I can see how fanon could keep that intensity going.

Felony saying that everyone in the universe can access the force if they tried hard enough makes me want to deck him in his fugly face
He’s ruining all established canon in real time. Speed running the absolute destruction of continuity of the SW universe and people are still rooting for him and his blorbo self inserts like there’s no tomorrow. Literally the whole reason I no longer engage in Ashoka content is because he massacred my girl and made her so one dimensional that my Mary Sue self insert fanfics OCs I wrote when I was 14 looks well developed compared to the absolute bland “girlboss kick ass take names” personality Ashoka has right now.
There were so many opportunities for him to explore the absolute potential of angst and conflict within Ashoka in this new series, to give her character a believable story of grief loss and growth yet he threw it all away because he wanted his OC to be the specialist girl that ever lived. This series could’ve been used to explore Ashokas conflicting feelings regarding the Anakin that taught her and was a mentor to her whilst trying to connect it to the monster that killed her family and hunted her culture into almost extinction and tried to kill her, a person he confessed to love as a sister, on Malachor. It could’ve been a good send off to a great character, to have her face that the Skyguy she put on a pedestal in her mind was in actuality the worst sort of scum and have her try to come to terms that just because she can forgive him for being the genocidal maniac he was and still hold love in her heart for who he used to be and also understand why the Jedi, her family, wasn’t the reason for their own downfall.
But alas. We got another series of “the Jedi caused their own downfall!!! Anakin did nothing wrong ever and him killing all my family and everyone I’ve ever known is so not his fault!!! It’s definitely the fault of the unbending stuck in the past council!!!”. Instead of a series that could’ve made Ashoka’s “departure” (literally never going to happen with felony at the helm, he’s going to find a way to make her immortal and then show up 200 years in the future to be the protagonist of another light v dark fight since she’s his special SI) from the series tie in nicely thematically and canonically with every other Star Wars media we have, he decided that the best way to have this series go down is 1) everyone is force sensitive if they tried hard enough ig and 2) the Jedi were bad!!! Their protocols don’t work! They were mean to my little meow meow Anakin Skywalker the greatest Jedi of all times™️ therefore he got to kill them all!!!!
Got a bit off topic but I’m still so mad that he had this chance to make Ashoka truly experience growth like the first 5 seasons of TCW yet he decided maintaining the badass rebel without a cause aesthetics for her was more important then good story telling.
Honestly though, my main problem with this series is that he decided that apparently everyone in the universe can be force sensitive if they “just tried hard enough”. Like your Midichlorian Count no longer matters since even if you were Force-Null you can still be special!!!!
This takes away any and all urgency in the Jedi Fallen Order games. It makes Cals journey absolutely redundant. It throws away all the tragedy contained in having inquisitors being force sensitive kids kidnapped from their parents and tortured till they give into the dark side. If all beings are able to use the force in his universe then there are no consequences to the inquisitors not finding the Holocron that holds the names to all force sensitive children in the universe. There would be no need to them to chase Cal and the Mantis Crew throughout the universe to obtain what they have. They could’ve just went down to any random level in Coruscant and take homeless Force-Null kids and train them.
Even better! It makes the entirety of the KOTOR games redundant!!!! Oh and I guess the hidden path is also redundant since everyone can be force sensitive and no one truly needs more saving from the empire over others :/ totally not like these kids that were saved by the path would’ve been taken and tortured into inquisitors, definitely not since EVERYONE is force sensitive nowadays or is it just the ones Ashoka trains herself because she’s the “living embodiment of the daughter uwu she’s so special and unique look how well she can train a non force sensitive to be force sensitive!!!”
Everyone in the Star Wars universe has Midichlorian’s in their blood. That is a fact. It is also an established fact that the amount each person has is different and is not determined nor dependent on lineage. Force-Nulls typically range in the 1000-3000 count and you need 7000 to be force sensitive and higher to be accepted into the order. (The order isn’t the end all be all of force cultures, Rouge One shows that Jedha’s force culture isn’t restricted to only force sensitives as the Guardian’s were never specified to be only a religious order of force sensitives. And high canon doesn’t depict many other force cultures but we know that there are many force cultures in the universe that co-exist with the Jedi with which the Jedi weren’t in opposition towards; literally not even the witches of Dathomir were oppositions anywhere outside of the battle fields.) You don’t need to be force sensitive to be part of a force culture (Jedha literally has pilgrims who come far and wide to make a pilgrimage to the holy site and not all of them were force sensitive), Sabine could’ve very easily been taught the tenets of the Jedi without retconning her to be force sensitive or making everyone in the universe force sensitive.
Tumblr media
No where in either the EU or High Canon did anyone ever say that you have to be force sensitive to be a badass or to make a difference. Hera did not hold the title of the best pilot in the universe just for some rat of a man to come and say that Anakin was the best because *muh force sensitivity!!!!* Some of the most heroic and most influential (good or bad) people in the franchise are Force-Null! And that’s great! It means that the force doesn’t make anyone better than anyone else! It’s a quirk of the universe! To retcon that everyone can and is force sensitive if they tried hard enough is literally cheapening everything the franchise stands for. Andor did not literally give us an entire story about how Force-Nulls in the Galaxy makes just as much of a difference as force sensitives for felony to come out and say that “you know what??? Midichlorian’s are a scam! You get a force sensitivity! You get a force sensitivity! Everyone gets a force sensitivity!!!!”
Sabine was great as she was in rebels, why cheapen it with “oh she’s actually force sensitive all this time!!!” When we could’ve stuck with badass Force-Null Mandalorian can kick your ass five ways to Sunday with her paint bombs and blasters you force wielding asshole!!! Like why even do that felony. Do you want people to hate her??? Nvm ofc you do, you need Ashoka to be the best in every way possible even if it means ruining every other beloved character in this franchise👍

I found my nephew reaching out his hand in an attempt to grab a cup of caf by "using the Force". He claims that if one tries hard enough and care enough about grabbing the cup of caf, one can use the Force to achieve dreams or something like that.
I kindly reminded him that all trying hard and caring enough gets you in life is a 4-hour nightly sleep schedule and permanent eye bags. He did not appreciate this information. He says I'm being cynical, but Stars know that if this "Force" business worked the way he said it did, I wouldn't have had to walk the length of a 19-kilometer ship for a cup of caf during beta shift.

“Controversial show” lmfao my dudes I don’t know how to break it to you but outside of tumblr and Twitter, people do not hate the bad batch
Like I get why we’re upset with bad batch, im not a fan of the whitewashing either.
But if you actually step outside which I know is rare for some of y’all and actually engage with casual Star Wars fans (literally from coworkers to random people on the street with Star Wars related merch) you’ll learn most people feel one of two ways about the bad batch
1. They haven’t seen it
2. They have seen it, and find it at the very least mildly enjoyable or just okay
That’s it. That’s literally the vibe the majority of people who go outside not online feel about the show
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m not saying you can’t dislike the show, or feel upset about the designs of the characters. I get that, and that’s justified.
But don’t act like The Bad Batch is Last Jedi levels of controversial in the greater public discussion lmfaoooo
