Anakin and Ahsoka are “pick-me’s.”
Don’t worry, I’ll elaborate.
Anti-Jedi folks will always, always, lift these two assholes up as “better than all the rest of the Jedi.”
They’ll say that they have “empathy,” and “compassion,” and that they “care about the little people and not just the politicians in the Senate”—or whatever the fuck else they wanna say—all because Ahsoka and Anakin “Aren’t Like Other Jedi™️”
Now, theoretically, you could say the same thing about Qui-Gon, Kanan, Cal, etc. except for the fact that they themselves don’t believe that.
They loved being Jedi, they viewed themselves as being Jedi, they loved their fellow Jedi and the Order. They didn’t betray their family, they didn’t blame their family for their own fucking genocide or basically call their practices stupid because “look how much better I am teehee.”
Qui-Gon, Kanan, Cal…they loved the Order and being Jedi in a way that Ahsoka and Anakin didn’t.
Ahsoka’s change is partly Anakin’s fault, since she only changed after being his padawan, but that doesn’t change the fact that now she’s so entrenched in her own ignorance that she truly believes that the Jedi brought on their own genocide because they didn’t train non-Force-sensitives.
So yeah, Anakin and Ahsoka are massive pick-me’s and y’all are too.

The "Strictness" of the Jedi
Ahsoka Tano: I was just reckless on the battlefield, violating orders to retreat and had to be forced to pull out.
Mace Windu: You'll be performing extra chores at the Temple for a little while.
Ahsoka Tano: I just lost my lightsaber and am too embarrassed to tell my Master about it.
Jocasta Nu: Well that's alright dear. Here, why don't I introduce you to Master Sinube our expert on the underworld, he'll help you find it. We won't even tell your Master.
Ahsoka Tano: *Spends the investigation threatening people, beating them up, and being consumed with impatience and fear.*
Master Sinube: That's alright, we'll use this as a learning opportunity. I'm going to teach you patience! Then bring you to a youngling class to pass the lesson on.
Ahsoka Tano: I lied and snuck my way onto the Citadel mission purely because no one had done it before and I wanted to be apart of it.
Plo Koon: No problem, I'll cover for you.
Ahsoka Tano: I just spoke out of turn to the Jedi Council.
The Council: Whatever. And we blame you for this, Anakin.
Ahsoka Tano: I muddled an investigation into a bombing, beat up Clones who tried to arrest me, worked with a known Sith Assassin, and broke out of prison.
Jedi Council: We award you with Knighthood at the age of sixteen.
Ahsoka Tano: I demand an army to invade a neutral planet because an ex-terrorist asked me to do it!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Okay sure, let me talk to the Council.
Ahsoka Tano: What? The capital's under attack? I don't care! Just give me the army already!
Anakin Skywalker: Here you go.
Ahsoka Tano: I'm not apart of the Jedi Order anymore.
Jedi Council: We'll still share relevant intelligence with you while you deal with the crisis in Mandalore.

Perhaps one of the most unintentionally hilarious parts of the Ahsoka show being SO FUCKING Pro-Anakin to the point of excusing genocide is that it really shows that all of the people who thought Ahsoka was the "normal" person about Anakin who would actually try to kill him while Obi-Wan was too attached to do it were probably always dead wrong about her characterization. This girl will literally just excuse anything he ever does, no matter how heinous, and just pretend it never even happened.

So this is twice now that Ahsoka has avoided placing any blame on Anakin for his own choices. She claims the reason that she didn't finish her training was because she walked away from Anakin, and while that's sort-of true, it's by no means the WHOLE truth because it conveniently leaves out that Anakin allowed her to be a victim of Order 66, destroyed the entire Jedi Order, became a Sith, and then tried to kill her AGAIN on Malachor. So while she DID walk away from Anakin and her Jedi training, she also never gets the chance to come BACK because Anakin decides to completely abandon being a Jedi at all and decides Ahsoka's life is totally worthless.
And of course this episode she decides to blame the JEDI for their own destruction rather than acknowledging that they were completely and utterly betrayed BY ANAKIN.
This girl needs to sit up and recognize that Anakin was a piece of shit SO MUCH, I am OVER her pretending like he wasn't, I really am. Someone shake her until the sense finally comes loose.

Ahsoka does have a direct conection to the world between worlds the other characters don't, to be fair...
That is such a copout.
Do you know why Ahsoka has a "direct connection" to the World-Between-Worlds? Because Filoni wrote it that way. Ahsoka just "falling in" to this liminal space because he's dedicated to making her better than everyone at everything ever.
I don't know if everyone knows this or not, but this show is basically Rebels season five. This was the plot they were going to use for the follow-up season. That's the whole reason Ahsoka was rescued, to fill in for Kanan since he was killed off. The Ghost and the Phantoms were going to go and find Ezra and incidentally Thrawn.
That's also why this Marrok character looked like the Eighth Brother we saw on Malachor.
The only reason Ahsoka is so special is because Dave Filoni is writing her that way.

the concept of "grey Jedi" doesn't work because the force is light and dark, not black and white. By definition, colour value might be a spectrum, but darkness is absence of light. Everyone is grey! Star wars has clearly implied that nobody is perfect and everyone comes in shades of of grey, everyone is flawed and imperfect. The jedi are all technically grey! However, they are "light" because they, as jedi, choose light, choose selflessness, choose goodness.
Textbook fandom interpretation of "grey jedi" is either A. Someone who uses both the dark and light side or B. Someone who is light and does good but doesn't follow the jedi order.
A. doesn't work, because the dark side isn't just defined by "being emotional" or "Thinking of yourself", it's literally stuff like murder and torture. You can't claim to be "good" or "light" or "better than everyone" while also condoning murder at the same time.
B. You don't have to be a jedi to use the force! You don't have to be a jedi to be in the light! Like it's not illegal, the jedi order respects non-jedi force users as long as they don't commit human rights violations! the Jedi are the majority of force users, but they're not the only ones who can use the force. The jedi themselves are aware that there are many different interpretations, and the only intervene when it. yknow. involves murder and torture and the like. calling non-jedi lightside users as "grey jedi" doesn't really make sense because they're... just technically normal jedi. And if they're not associating with the order, then they're just lightside force users that are not jedi? Why would they call themselves jedi if they themselves don't think they are jedi or associate with the jedi???
Like in Ahsoka's situation, she's not a "grey" jedi, she's a light force user that doesn't follow the jedi order. In fact, saying that she's a "grey" jedi is basically just saying that she's a regular jedi? That doesn't make her better or worse or special, disagreeing with the council doesnt make someone better or worse that the other- what does matter is her actual actions. Which, as aforementioned, is lightside. The jedi order is also light. They can coexist, yknow, one is not superior than the other, they're both light. And it's not uncommon for people to disagree with the council. That's the entire point of the jedi having a "council"- to provide different perepectives and healthy debate and come up with the best decision for everyone. You can't please everybody, that's entirely normal. There's a reason why the council discusses instead of having one person make all the choices. The jedi are people too, they're also flawed. You can be grey and choose light, that's what the jedi choose to do.
tldr everyone is already grey, but light and dark is a matter or choice.

Is anyone tired of Ahsoka’s entire existence being based around Anakin? Like yes, Anakin being her Master is significant but the way canon is going these days would make it seem like Ahsoka literally had no life or relations outside of Anakin. Like what about her relationship with Plo Koon? What about Obi-Wan? Yoda? BARRISS?! Like Ahsoka had MANY relationships outside of Anakin and has spent more time away from him than with him as his apprentice. Ahsoka is her own woman who has her own unique fighting style, her own set of talents, her own experience, etc. But no all she’s ever seen is “Anakin’s apprentice.” Like Thrawn only sees her as a threat because Anakin was her Master. Baylan’s only source of taunting Ahsoka was bringing up Anakin. Like it’s non stop and it’s like did Dave forget that Ahsoka is way more than that or…? I’m just personally tired of it. I didn’t grow to love Ahsoka because she’s Anakin’s Padawan, I grew to love Ahsoka because she’s AHSOKA!

Certain people treat Anakin choosing to leave Shmi as something that caused debilitating trauma in him that affects him every moment of his life
Yet no one considers Anakin loudly rejecting ahsoka to her face upon their first meeting as traumatic
Interesting, i wonder why

In light of the new Ahsoka show pissing me off, I have decided that---at some point after I finish up mitptt and get going again on bcc---I'm going to write a spite fic.
----------
In said spite fic, Ahsoka---at the age and time she is in the Ahsoka show---goes back in time to the Prequel Era, where her younger self discovers her.
Now, it's obvious that older Ahsoka- (who we'll call O!Ahsoka) -is younger Ahsoka- (who we'll call Y!Ahsoka) -at a different age, so O!Ahsoka can't really lie her way out of being discovered. After that becomes obvious to her, O!Ahsoka figures- "Oh the Force must've sent me back in time so I could save myself and Anakin from the stupid dogmatic Jedi!" -and decides to do just that.
Then, after O!Ahsoka basically treats the other Jedi- (barring herself and Anakin, and maybe Plo) -like shit, shits all over the Order and their practices, and just generally acts like an ass about everything and shows a surprising amount of ignorance---Y!Ahsoka is like- "What the fuck is wrong with you? Have you forgotten that these people are our family? Have you forgotten how the Force works? Have you forgotten why we practice certain things? What the hell?"
So O!Ahsoka tells her everything---all of her opinions on why the Jedi and especially the Council are bad/hypocritical/whatever/etc, everything that happened in The Wrong Jedi arc, how Obi-Wan was apparently "playing politics" and "betrayed her" or whatever, everything Anakin did and what that lead to, how Anakin's actions are apparently the Jedi's fault, etc---in hopes that hearing all of that will turn Y!Ahsoka against the Jedi and make her help her "save Anakin from them."
Cue Y!Ahsoka going off.
Y!Ahsoka absolutely rips O!Ahsoka and her arguments to shreds---defending her fellow Jedi and their beliefs, both through logical emotional arguments, and just expressing her shock that O!Ahsoka could so easily forget all that they were taught and be so fucking callous about the death of their family.
Y!Ahsoka then uses the information that O!Ahsoka has given her to help her fellow Jedi stop Anakin from fucking everything up and killing them all---as well as take out Palpatine and win the war.
All the while also having an identity crisis because- "how could she turn into such an asshole???" -but everyone, particularly Obi-Wan, helps her through that.
Meanwhile O!Ahsoka has to deal with the fact that she actually is wrong and an asshole, and also work out her own issues in a healthy way instead of just ignoring them, absolving Anakin of any agency, and blaming the Jedi.
----------
This fic will also be full of a healthy dose of Rex finding out what Anakin makes him and his brothers do---how easily he was ready to cast them aside---and, after dealing with all of the bullshit that Anakin has been pulling throughout the war, he decides that he's just fucking done with him.
He just walks away from him, decides that he's not putting up with any of this anymore.
In a similar vein, I'm thinking about Padme also learning about this stuff and---paired with Anakin's now super erratic and crazy behavior, plus they've just recently "made up" from the Clovis stuff---she does some serious thinking and finally sees Anakin for what he is, and makes the decision to leave him because she hates the person she's become by being with him.

One thing that kind of annoys is when people talk like Barriss's random betrayal was somehow planned all along.
Like please tell me again that Dave Filoni had some master plan all the way back in Season 2 to introduce a cameo character (Barriss is not his creation she was there was a cameo) where she's depicted as selfless, compassionate, and a better Jedi than Ahsoka. Someone willing to lay down her life for others and face said death peacefully without any lingering trauma as she's fine the next episode.
Then completely forget about her for two whole seasons just to drag her back in S5 to be a purely evil villain because Dave needed someone to betray Ahsoka and he realized she was the only friend he'd given her that the audience remembered. Specifically because everyone liked her so much.
There's no arc here, no master plan, no convoluted character work, or tragic story of lost faith. Just a sloppy, hastily written arc meant to boot Ahsoka out of the Jedi before the show ended so she could survive Order 66. Just for Dave to have her circle back to the Jedi so she could directly survive it anyways.
Barriss wasn't (and still isn't) on some character journey. She was just a victim of circumstance.
Also no. Her acting calm doesn't mean that she was actually "repressed :(" by the meanie Jedi.

Honestly, I WISH Ahsoka was the kind of character people think she is, who could/would get so angry at Anakin that she'd just straight-up murder him. I WISH that's the way she was portrayed, I WISH she was written as someone who is so broken and so far from being a Jedi anymore that she can be pushed to a murderous rage against someone she used to love who betrayed her. I WISH they cared enough about Ahsoka to make her the character fans seem to think she is, she'd be a lot more interesting.

Remember when Ahsoka loved the Jedi?
Remember when she still respected them enough to wish she could get advice from the Jedi Masters she'd known, like Yoda or Obi-Wan?
Remember when she thought of them fondly enough that she didn't blame them for being betrayed and murdered by one of their own?
God, I miss those days.

The attachment issue, Luminara and Anakin
So you know there is moment in clone wars where Barris and Ahsoka get buried under a ton of rocks and their teachers argue about how going rescuing her.
This moment I believe was made to show the problem when the attachment part of the code gets interpreted to it´s extreme conclusion imo.
Here Luminara talks to Anakin about his "attachment issues" that he needs to "let his apprentice go" obey the "will of the force" etc and you know, in normal circunstances, she would not be wrong about telling Anakin "letting go" of people who died some years or even days ago even if it definitely is insensitive and the last thing a grieving person would like to hear at that moment.
Tumblr media
The problem here is that she is already talking about Barris and Ahsoka as if they were already dead mere minutes after being buried by rocks and in this particular case, not looking for them after a crash like that, could count as the reason WHY they died, in these cases time is essential to rescue as much people as you can because their oxigen could be cut or they could be crusched etc and I believe a Jedi Master like Luminara would be aware of this but she is too busy criticizing Anakin on his "attachment issues" instead of looking for both padawans with her jedi senses.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Anakin is so used of this happening of having this discussion with the Jedi Order, that he no longer argues with Luminara, he already had this same discussion with Obi-Wan hundreds of times so instead he barely pays her attention because HE IS TOO BUSY looking for Ahsoka to make sure she is still alive to RESCUE HER AND BARRIS but he also takes the time to comfort Luminara when she believes Barris is already dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For her part Barris is already getting ready to die almost as if it´s the WILL OF THE FORCE, it isn´t, this made me sad because she truly ressembled the clones who told Plo Koon about no one going looking for them because they are expendable, in Barris case it isn´t the will of the force, she is giving out way too early and is telling Ahsoka to do the same but they are Jedi, they are trained, they can try to scape or call their masters for help which is what Ahsoka does because that´s what Anakin teached her.
Tumblr media
In the end Luminara IS HAPPY for getting her padawan back but she still believe she was 100 % right about giving anakin the attachment issue talk not considering the actual circunstances at all, Anakin is happy because Ahsoka and Barris are alive and Ahsoka is happy because she is alive and her master came for her just like he said he would in cases like this one.
Tumblr media
But you know who ISN´T COMPLETELY HAPPY? Barris, she is grateful for being alive but she also expected, maybe, a little more worry from her master? who she loves as a mother?
I love how this goes unsaid because before this incident Barris was criticizing Anakin as well, about his "war mongering ways" and while she has not changed her oppinion about him she looks a little bit jealous of the kind of relationship Anakin and Ahsoka have, not because she wants Anakin to be her master, in fact Anakin and Barris are almost the same age but because she would like to have that kind of relationship with Luminara.
Tumblr media
This is what I meant when I sa that while in theory the Jedi code is functional, in practice and in it´s interpretation it´s become unbalanced and it´s become a reason for the Jedi lose their balance as well because they have become so dettachted, they have become used to let their own or other people die way too early imo and this is part of why Anakin really could not agree with them, people should care for others, after all that´s what his Mom teached him "the biggest problem in the galaxy is that no one helps each other" right? and in this particular moment he is 100 % right and gets to rescue everybody, for his worry and compassion, those are some of his best qualities and as a jedi he put them in practice to honor his mother.
This also brings the question, does Anakin have attachment issues or he has a problem with the Jedi interpretation of attachment? some food for thought.
