In your Murase Lives ADA!Chuuya AU, Dazai still joins the ADA eventually right? After he loses both Ango and Oda (like how Chuuya left when he only had Dazai left, but Dazai seemed to be better with his new friends).
How do they react to that? Does Chuuya help Dazai join? Do they acknowledge that they knew each other before (well, I feel everyone could tell)? Is Chuuya happy he left? Or is he mixed about them working together again? Is Dazai feeling mixed up because Chuuya left him (but now after Odasaku he understands it better)?
I was trying to think of this had been mentioned in your comics on them but I didn’t think it’d been mentioned except in the intervening years Dazai had to deal with Mori’s complaining about Chuuya’s defection.
I talked about it a little bit in this post:
If Oda dies the same way… it’s a fun question. Dazai would leave, Dazai would still refuse to work for the government, so his options are limited. I can’t imagine Chuuya leaving at 16, join the ADA, and the mafia not knowing a thing about it? So what would Dazai do? Chuuya left and joined a group and now that group is his only option in Yokohama. If he wants to join them, he’ll still have to wait two years for his records to be erased and hidden. And he knows Chuuya is gonna be there, and he knows him!! How frustrating and stressful is that wait going to be? I’d like Chuuya to be gone when Dazai first joins, so Entrance Exam can still take place in a similar way. Maybe he accompanied Ranpo on his contract out of town? I do wonder if he’d confront Dazai publicly or in private… I’m still not sure how much he told the ADA about his own origins.
To expand on that, Entrance Exam the novel is quite different from the anime. Ranpo is on an investigation in Kyushu until the finale of Kunikida and Dazai's investigation to find and stop the Azure Messenger/Apostle. Ranpo shows up in person in time to deduce where the bomb was located (and Dazai tests his "ability" by pinching his hair at this moment). It's a key moment for Dazai because it's the moment he decides the ADA is the real deal and they just might be what he's looking for (this exam went both ways).
oh no this is gonna be long and turn into an improvised analysis of Entrance Exam
So, that's the thing: Dazai was very much testing the ADA for the entirety of his entrance exam. He was figuring out clues and coming to conclusions much faster than Kunikida was, but he wouldn't tell him outright: he was artfully slipping half-clues into his conversations with Kunikida to see if he would pick up on them. And he did! Which made him a good potential partner! Because Dazai didn't expect the ADA to be on his level, but wanted them to be able to work with him. And then there was Ranpo who very much was on his level and Dazai fanboy'd about it.
so. my AU.
It's funny, since Dazai joins at 20, and Chuuya left at 16 (almost 17), that they still get their 4-year gap. Except! this time the roles are reversed and Chuuya wasn't quite concerned about hiding (that's a whole other subject). I can't imagine Dazai watching Chuuya "betray" (leave) the PM on his own without consequences only to join some do-gooders not too long after and not get curious. Wanting to study him under a microscope and all.
So Dazai would have some knowledge from observing the ADA and Chuuya from a distance. Basic stuff like what they do and roughly who works there. I would expect canon Dazai to have had similar knowledge before his entrance exam, but who knows.
There was probably something reassuring in Chuuya seemingly having found a place in the light after everything he went through. But it would also a good excuse for comparison and self-depreciation. Fortunately, Dazai is motivated by Oda's words and a never-ending need to one-up Chuuya. Imagine the embarrassment if he gave up on his best chance of helping people because he was afraid of facing Chuuya.
Now, Let's say Chuuya was accompanying Ranpo on that investigation out of town. When they get back, it's to a crisis, and a Dazai who has been there for a while.
Ranpo was the one to figure out Chuuya's past in this AU, he knows about his (short) time in the mafia, but Dazai and his ability were a well-kept secret of the PM. Chuuya wouldn't spoil that: he didn't leave out of hatred for the mafia, he left out of grief and because he had that opportunity. It would probably take Ranpo 3 seconds to connect the missing dots once Dazai is revealed: singularity -> can't stop it -> has been used 3 times -> still alive -> something to stop him -> nullification -> Dazai.
Everything hinges on Ranpo and what he knows of this new recruit before meeting him: Fukuzawa and Kunikida are suspicious of Dazai being sent to infiltrate them, Fukuzawa is willing to kill Dazai over these suspicions, Chuuya would recognize Dazai instantly and also get suspicious and, depending on his reaction, seal his fate.
FORTUNATELY we know Fukuzawa talked to Ranpo beforehand and canonically Ranpo took one good look at Dazai and decided he was fine. So I say Ranpo kept Chuuya distracted for the rest of that day. Kunikida still fake-shot Dazai, they still got the airplane back up (hush about Chuuya who could have caught it), Dazai still made an excellent impression on Kunikida, and everything went as smoothly.
Which would bring their confrontation to afterwards. The big finale with Sasaki happens a few days later, but Dazai vanishes during that time, presumably to investigate and corner her. That does leave us with the perfect opportunity for Dazai and Chuuya to cross paths (Chuuya would have heard Dazai's name at some point) and confront each other. I did mention Chuuya had a bit of a dark justice/vigilantism phase during his time with Murase before the ADA, and Dazai's objective at that moment is to bring an end to Sasaki by his own means, as the justice system would never be able to reach her, so... 🤝
Another fun thing about Entrance Exam is that Kunikida is always just on the verge of figuring out what Dazai's deal is, but Dazai keeps being stupid and annoying exactly during those moments, so Kunikida throws his doubts out the window along with Dazai every time.
In short, Ranpo would know Dazai and Chuuya used to know each other, skk would have their confrontation in private and shake hands over doing what the system can't handle, and Fukuzawa and Yosano might be able to connect the dots themselves after a while of watching them, but keep it silent.
Our beloved Kunikida came in too late to know Chuuya's backstory and had a similar instant annoyance and teamwork chemistry with Dazai that Chuuya seems to be also experiencing, so to him this is just Dazai weirdness. Any subsequent addition to the ADA would have no reason to question them.

Ok so now that I've spent some time thinking about the whole "Chuuya was never a vampire" twist, I... still don't like it. For many reasons.
Here's my explanation; if you want to read it, please do. I strive to be fair. I want to wait for the manga release before making a verdict on whether it's bad writing or not, and I also want to see the start of next arc to see where they're going with all this.
If you don't want to read it, and you're having fun with the twist (it is funny. I will admit that much), then skip this and keep having fun! I don't want to ruin anyone's enjoyment.
First of all. It makes no sense. There are things that just do not add up. There was never an indication this was a possibility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bro. Did you put on costume makeup for the texture under your eyes? Did it wash off after nearly getting drowned and you had to frantically reapply it behind Fyodor's back and that's why we couldn't see your face for several chapters. Did you take it off again for your dramatic reveal here at the end? I demand smeared undereye makeup Chuuya in the manga when it releases hbfsdjhbfv
Ok this was more a joke. But here's what really irks me.
Tumblr media
From what I can recall, this is. True. He needs to have made contact to manipulate gravity. It's also re-established in this very arc.
Great. So how the fuck did he slow the elevator? He was with Fyodor in a separate room! This makes no sense. Did he leave to stop the elevator and Fyodor was like "oh chill. ok come back soon"??? What?!
Here's another thing I want to address:
Tumblr media
@ticklinglady I had this same question. However, on thinking on it again, I do have an answer that makes sense - they had to buy time for Sigma to use his ability on Fyodor, to gain knowledge on him about what he knows, and what his ability is. <-I feel confident in saying this is going to be important later. Sigma will still have a role to play and we will find out more about Fyodor!
Alright. Moving on to the themes, and why this also doesn't work (at least for me).
The theme in this arc is very much to do with the contrast between trust vs control. This is Fyodor's failing when it came to Dazai, and it is established very early on as the major contrast between them, in the Sky Casino arc. The vampires, though it seemed silly and random, fit nicely into that theming. And the conclusion, where Dazai showed extreme faith in Sigma and the Agency members (and what an interesting contrast that is; to have someone show faith in ordinary humans when his foil is a man who has faith in god but not humanity), that fits into that theming also. Ok, so this was an extension of that right? Showing faith in Chuuya, as always.
Yeah, no. I want to direct your attention back to this here.
Tumblr media
This line is the one that had everyone going "oh man skk is going to fuck you up for that". I made an entire analysis back when this chapter first came out about the themes that we saw, and Fyodor's utter devaluing of the effectiveness of people beyond just their skills and abilities (it's here, if you're curious). This is why I suspected that, since Dazai and Fyodor are intellectually matched, it would have to be Sigma and Chuuya to catch Fyodor off guard - because he only values what people can do, not who they are.
Well, we got a little with Sigma, before Fyodor took control of the situation again. (Rip buddy.) Sigma's tenacity and unwillingness to fall for Fyodor's manipulating him away from helping the Agency was based off his personal choice and free will. He managed to shoot him! Fyodor was reduced to a cheap trick to get close enough to stab him! There was a certain level of payoff.
But Chuuya? I want you to think for a second. What did he actually do? Not a single part of this was Chuuya's idea. It was Mori's - he was at the very least sent undercover under orders, if not sent to Meursault under orders. He didn't even glue his own fangs in apparently. Now let's go over what he did. Why was it so necessary that it be Chuuya there? Well, obviously because gravity manipulation was needed to slow the elevator and the bullet. Oh... hm. So. His ability. Was what was needed, huh?
But it was necessary for it to be Chuuya because of the bond between him and Dazai, right? Oh. Wait. So, Chuuya's personality and goals don't matter - only his ability to read Dazai.
This twist makes it so Chuuya as a person doesn't actually throw a wrench into Fyodor's plans at all. All that matters is that he is Mori's executive and Dazai's partner. I guess he was "utilized" after all. I thought, with his characterization in Fifteen and Stormbringer, that we were moving away from this characterization of Chuuya only by his bond with Dazai. Do you want to scream.
You might be saying, okay, but at the very least it showed the depths of Double Black's bond! ...did it? Not really, at least not to me. The only impressive part of any of this was Mori's preparedness. This was barely an skk plan. It was a Mori plan. Double Black placing their lives in each other's hands is a Tuesday for them. This is nothing we didn't already know. And truthfully, it goes nowhere near the level of sheer trust we saw in Dead Apple. Mori sent Chuuya in sure, but it was only after everything settled down that he realized that Mori suspected Dazai would need help. Before that point, it seemed everyone thought Dazai was dead except Chuuya. Chuuya chose to jump out of that plane. Chuuya chose to risk his life. It showcased his personality, his free agency, and the level of trust they had far, far better. And it was emotionally satisfying! Dazai was extremely grateful that his trust paid off! Chuuya was somewhat conscious during Corruption, enough to weaken his own punch and shout Dazai's name! Dazai prevented Chuuya from having his ability be separated from him by the fog! They are an unbeatable team... but they were still left exhausted, and had to rely only on each other. How does what happened in this latest episode compare to that in a way that makes me believe they've actually outmaneuvered Fyodor?
Listen. I'll take twists that don't really have a great build up if they further the themes or character development, or it just makes for good drama. There's an interesting pay off, at least, so I say "okay, okay. Could've been done better, but I'll let it slide for the intrigue." But here? Nothing. It was boring. Are you bored.
Anime watchers were probably more fine with it. Maybe it was a little disappointing, but oh well. But manga readers have been having this plot dragged out for years. A lot of said fans (including myself) were excited to see Chuuya become main series relevant and receive present day development - and it seemed like we were going to get that with the recent publication of not one, but two Chuuya backstory novels, and the drama of this arc pitting Dazai and Chuuya against each other. Instead, this did absolutely nothing of interest for his character. Why was he even here?
Which brings me to the last point, which is the characterization.
Going back and re-reading this entire arc now, it becomes one big stage performance. Ok, fine, it's a little funny. But now there's hardly anything of value to these interactions. The only ones that actually matter are Fyodor and Sigma, and Fyodor and Nikolai. All that buildup to drama between Double Black, to another incredible display of trust, to something shifting and changing from the status quo... all that build up, and nothing has changed for Chuuya, or for Double Black. The show of trust wasn't even that dramatic really. Are you bored still.
This also weakens Fyodor's character to me. Fyodor witnessed their incredible show of trust in Dead Apple. I assumed he was prepared for skk-typical bullshittery, you know, being a genius on par if not greater than Dazai. You're telling me he was so overconfident he completely missed that Chuuya wasn't a vampire? Really? Fyodor really had nothing in place that would verify whether the vampires were actually under control? He wasn't constantly checking for a plan? It really was just red eyes and fangs, and he thought that was fine? That's it? Ok.
Truthfully, I was kind of :| about several of the preceding twists in the Meursault arc, particularly the dagger Fyodor pulled out when he started acting to Sigma, and the door railing being preemptively crushed by Chuuya before the drowning started. The dagger was actually ornate in the manga, which raised several questions - it couldn't have come from a guard. It made me think there was more to that interaction than just Fyodor pretends to have a split personality and that there was actually something to that knife. Well, it was made to be a regular knife in the anime, so I guess theorizing across those lines are dashed.
What bothered me the most though was the crumpling of the rail to stop the door from completely closing. There was no indication of this in the manga. None. No one could've predicted that - because it's stupid. The water filled so fast it couldn't get out of the crack in the door, even though it was huge??? Dazai was in the control room - you're telling me that there was no security camera focused on the door??? You know, where you would position a security camera??? It was dumb to me, but I was willing to roll my eyes and move on because I was expecting a good payoff to all this, and well, it was funny.
But now, the whole arc is one extended joke skk were playing on Fyodor. And you're telling me that's how our major antagonist goes out? Our major antagonist of several arcs? Be for fucking real.
And depending on when Dazai figured it out, it may even cheapen earlier scenes. If he found out after the elevator slowed like people have been theorizing, I could accept that. That's fine. But I need people to recall: in the actual episode he states "it was all an act".
Is Dazai probably lying to save face? Sure. But as of this moment we actually have no evidence it wasn't an act from the beginning. Remember that Ango was communicating the whole time with Dazai. Remember that Mori was involved and helped Tanizaki and Kenji get to safety. It's entirely possible it was all premeditated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One last suggestion: the plan name was "Good-bye" as suggested earlier. This means that even if Dazai didn't know from the beginning, he knew by the time of his speech to Chuuya as he was drowning.
This means that his whole scheme with Sigma was not an extremely dangerous, life-risking play on his part at all (@daz4i has gone to explain why this sacrificialism isn't good for a suicidal character, which I recommend reading, but nonetheless it was still notable characterization for Dazai). And what about this?
Tumblr media
Even his own flashbacks and memories were, what? A lie? A performance? For whom? Not for Fyodor, that's for sure.
For us. The readers. For the people who are invested in these two and their dynamic. For the people who wanted development between them, because there are actually issues there that have not been resolved. People wanted Dazai to show real concern. Chuuya is still bitter, even if Dazai thinks everything is fine and the same since he left. There was a tease that we're going to get how Chuuya felt when Dazai left the Mafia at some point in the future. People were making angsty art and writing and getting really excited because all the prior interactions had appeared to be set up for the payoff of this drama.
Tumblr media
We get an introduction in the dungeon. We reveal their partnership and fearsome reputation during the Lovecraft fight. They perform flawlessly in Dead Apple. Throughout all this, they need no communication. They read each other and respond in tandem, always... but there's still an underlying tension in the way they do not talk to each other. I, and many others, had thought the prison escape arc was the breaking point for some development, since their prior appearances were all meant to establish them as a team, and this arc dealt heavily with the breaking of established things.
But no. Deus ex skk is perfect. They have no issues or flaws. Do you want to scream again.
Anyways. I recognize I'm probably just very disappointed right now and by tomorrow, I probably won't care anymore and will just roll with it. I think I was extra disappointed because while I tempered my expectations for, say, Yosano and Kyouka's involvement (sigh...), I fully expected skk would be handled well, being the fandom faves and where the money is at, so I guess I took the disappointment that much harder.
However, I'm eager to see how the manga tackles the ending, and if we will get any extra cues or better pacing there that may make me not quite so bitter. If it's any consolation, I do think we'll be getting Chuuya focus at some point in a future arc, and while I do think Fyodor is dead, I doubt he will have stopped haunting the narrative. He'll be back in some capacity. I'm pretty certain he's still the mastermind.
And I'm curious about the next arc and what's happening there. Maybe some things will be revealed later that will help smooth out the flaws here.

Are you taking requests? If not, ignore this.
If so, could I request Dazai x Reader where the reader's ability is to go unnoticed? Not invisible, but no matter what they do, they're ignored, and no one even acknowledges they exist.
If that's too specific, sorry
I just need some Dazai content, but I'll be fine if you skip over this
Hello hello don't worry about it being specific dear I really loved your idea. In this the reader is Dazai's girlfriend and she can control her ability but doesn't want to deactivate it. I hope you like this piece. Enjoy reading♡

"Don't you ever get tired of following me all the time?" asked Dazai.
He was walking down the wide alley that overlooked the sea in Yamashita park, hand gliding along the frosted railing. The sky was a stale grey. A few days have passed since New Year's eve and the fizzy magic of winter was starting to fade away as people returned to their jobs. It was the middle of the day and the street was almost vacant.
"You know I could never get tired of you" Dazai could hear the click of your lighter.
"And I see you'll never stop smoking either" he chuckled lightly, finally turning to face the sea as he rested his forearms on the metal railing.
"You know me" you beamed, copying his position.
Dazai needn't see your face to know that you bore that dreamy look on your face. He was well accustomed to all your expressions and mannerisms: the way you'd hold your cigarette between your index and middle finger, the inner side of your wrist slightly turned upwards, the smile that curled your lips right before stepping next to him in a crowd on people in attempt to surprise him; the inevitable shadow of longing in your eyes.
He's had more than ten years to study, observe and learn everything about you by heart. And so did you. You were the only person who truly knew him, who's been by his side through all those years. He was probably the only one who knew you at all.
Your ability allowed you to go unnoticed, which meant that no one actually acknowledged your presence. You could be right in front of a group of people and they wouldn't even see you, their gazes sliding past you as if you were a mere plastic wrapper. Thanks to his ability, Dazai was the only one who knew of your existence.
"Did you miss me, Osamu?" you asked in a playful voice, your head tilting to the side and you inhaled your first smoke.
"You know I did, Y/N. I always do"
And he wasn't lying. He's gotten so used to your constant presence that whenever you were gone it felt like a vital part of him was missing. But you'd always return days, weeks or months later with the same smile on your face.
For a while, when things were tough, Dazai actually throught you were his guardian angel, a being sent from heavens to watch over him. After all, how could you have found your way back to him weeks after he left his hometown and came to Yokohama, or during the days following his departure from the Mafia? But no, you were no angel. Your skin was warm; a heart was beating in your chest and that was proof enough that you were real.
The man finally tilted his head to the side, taking in your figure: you haven't changed at all since the last time he saw you.
"Well, did you miss me too?" he asked in plain voice.
Your gaze followed a stray seagull that flew past the high masts before meeting his. Dazai inhaled sharply as his eyes darter around your face. Your emotions seemed to live just below the surface of your skin, the intensity of your gaze completely disarming him.
Your lips quivered, fingers squeezing the filter of your cigarette. "Of course I missed you." you said in a low voice.
Just then, silvery flakes began falling from the puffy clouds. They fell lightly upon your mahogany hair, catching the shallow light of the sun; you glimmered like a jewel.
Almost mechanically one of Dazai's hands cupped one of your pink stained cheeks in a gesture of familiar affection, the touch burning your frozen skin. You were there, you were back. And you leaned into his touch and closed your eyes.
His heart started beating faster when you snaked your arms around his neck, pulling him into a gentle hug which he quickly returned. It was hard for him to admit how much he missed the comfort of your embrace, that each part of him felt that he belonged in your arms. Hugging you felt like coming home.
"Hey, Dazai" you whispered against the crook of his neck "Is it okay if I stay with you for a while?"
"You still gotta ask?" he responded with a chuckle. "Didn't I already give you a key to my apartment?"
"You did, but I didn't wanna barge in." you said as you pulled away from him, leaving him yearning for your touch.
"Nah, don't worry about it." Dazai winked at you playfully, causing a smile to rise to your lips for a brief moment. Then you returned to watching the sea.
The water always mirrored the sky and during winter, its hues of inky blue and green were replaced by a vast body of grey that stretched towards the horizon. Pearly waves shimmered in the sun as they rolled closer to the shore.
"I was actually thinking of staying for longer now. If you'll have me" you unexpectedly confessed.
The former mafioso knew what you were proposing: to live together like any normal couple. Except you were no regular couple. A grin stretched his frostbitten lips as he recalled the last time the two of you tried to move in together.
Whenever one of his friends came over he would wander around the apartment with a dazed look on his face.
"You got a girlfriend or something? And you didn't tell me?" he'd ask in a condescending tone, pointing at the clothes and other objects scattered around the apartment. Naturally, he wanted to introduce you, to show you off to his friends but you just wouldn't agree to show yourself. And so, to spare himself the trouble, Dazai played it off by saying that he had a one night stand the previous day.
He knew he couldn't go through that again but he also wasn't willing to let you go this time. No, not again. Taking a deep breath he closed the distance between you and took one of your hands in his.
"Y/N. I'm only going to let you stay if you're gonna stay for good. I'm done playing around like this. I don't wanna go to bed each night wondering if you'll come home tomorrow or not, I'm sick of that. I want you in my life and not just as a ghost. I want you to show yourself to the world, to meet my friends and do all the normal stuff couples do. It's either that or you have a week until you leave."
It took all the courage he had in himself to muster up those words. For so many years he didn't know how to say these things to you so he felt relieved that he finally managed to. But now, anxiety rooted itself in his heart as he watched your expressions for any changes.
You giggled lightly, flicking the bud into the sea of grey with the grace of a practiced gesture. "I didn't take you as a man who gave ultimatums, darling. But I'll stay."
Your hearfelt words made your partner's knees wobble in relief.
"It'll be a bit hard for you to step back into the world but we'll take it slow and we'll figure it out together, okay?" he asked with a wide smile on his face as he cupped both your cheeks with his hands.
You gave him a reassuring nod, leaning in to place a tender kiss on his lips. It was electrifying, like being struck by thunder. Dazai's digits peeled away from your frozen visage only after your lips parted.
"Well then I guess it's settled. Let's go home, you must be freezing" he said as he took your hand in his, intertwining your fingers and for the first time in many years you stopped using your ability.
You actually felt no different than before. If it hadn't been for the gaping mouth of a teenage boy that passed by you, you wouldn't have realized that you weren't unnoticed anymore.
"See, my belladonna. You've been hiding this pretty face of yours for too long."
A rosy blush tinted your cheeks upon hearing Dazai's words. Hand in hand, you strode off the alley; enveloped in a drizzle of snowflakes. You were going home.

If it isn’t too big of a request what if like Akutagawa was taken hostage by an enemy as bait to lure in the PM and I know Akutagawa can easily break free but this particular enemy has a member with an ability similar to Dazai’s meaning they can nullify someone’s ability just very differently.
Scarlet Witch! Reader upon hearing (Aku and reader are together) this goes on a rampage and drag Dazai off his ass to help them with rescuing Aku since Dazai’s ability will cancel out that other persons ability. Reader does most of the killing as some members were assigned to guard the prison Aku was in and Reader goes like “You want my lover, you’re gonna have to fcking kill me!”

"they.. fucking.. what?!"
port mafia executive nakahara chuuya recoiled at your harsh tone of voice as mori and his other subordinates when koyou ozaki reported that akutagawa had been kidnapped by the enemy organization.
even mori was taken aback by your sudden outburst, knowing how calm and collected you usually were and how you were never hostile. this was the first time they'd seen you snap and break as you always spoke softly and were very polite.
"[surname]-chan, put everything back down," mori sighed, shaking his head as he stared at you, unfazed by the pieces of papers and other furniture that were already floating in the air as they glowed red with your fingertrips twitching with agitation as an ominous pressure wafted in the atmosphere.
"[name], you heard the boss," your mentor, chuuya, exclaimed as he placed a hand on your shoulder, "i'm just as pissed as you are, alright? take it easy."
"how am i supposed to calm down when he's out there gravely injured and was taken in as a hostage to bait the port mafia in?" you raged, your eyes now furiously glowing red.
chuuya sighed, wondering if his temper and arrogance had rubbed off on you as you scoffed and glared at him before stopping your red psionics from making things float in the air with zero gravity out of rage. well, you were his subordinate, and possibly his younger sibling, given that he was only four years older than you and that you shared a brotherly bond with him.
"i understand how much akutagawa means to you, [surname]-chan," said mori, clasping his hands together, "but you must not let your emotions get the best of you."
despite mori's and your mentor's words, you were so consumed by rage that their words merely passed from one ear to the other.
you couldn't sit still as mori discussed what needed to be done with you and chuuya, but you already had other plans as you twitched and cracked your fingers, which they found uncannily similar to dazai, especially kouyou when dazai threatened her once.
"what are you doing, kiddo?" chuuya asked, raising a brow as red wisps of psionic energy oozed from your fingertips.
"i'm going to find.. and i'm going to kill every.. last one of them," you murmured as you stood up from your seat, your red glowing eyes boring into mori's with a death threat.
with that, you abruptly left the office, swinging the doors open with your red psionics as you extended your hands.
"o-oi! [name]! where the hell are you going?!" exclaimed your mentor, "[name]!"
chuuya rose from his seat to pursue you, but was abruptly stopped by mori. he said, blinking as he spoke calmly, "there's no need for that, chuuya. i was going to send [surname]-chan to get akutagawa and bring those fools to their knees anyway,"
"that damned kid.. tch, does [name] even realize the illuminati has a member with the equivalent ability to dazai's ability?" scoffed chuuya, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"i believe in [surname]-chan, so you should as well. after all, you're the mentor," mori smiled, almost sinisterly. "and for another thing, [surname] [name] isn't the port mafia's scarlet witch for nothing, chuuya-kun," he reasoned.
Tumblr media
it was exactly what mori had in mind.
there was only one person you were going to approach in order to get akutagawa back.
you learned earlier in koyou's report that the illuminati, the enemy organization, had an ability user capable of nullifying any ability, which is why akutagawa was taken in, but the conditions are unknown, unlike this ability user you knew who does the same thing but with physical contact.
you wouldn't risk going after akutagawa and tbe illuminati empty-handed if you weren't certain that your chaos magic and other set of abilities wouldn't be nullified, whereas the one you were familiar with truly wouldn't.
inside the agency office, atsushi and the other detectives were taken aback, wincing at the sound of their door swinging open by red psionics pushing it.
they were all taken aback when they saw a familiar figure, you, to be exact, dressed in a dark red leather coat—the scarlet witch of the port mafia—standing in the door frame, hands extended out.
as you walked inside, or more accurately, stomped, the heels of your boots clicked against the pavement, everyone stood up. they could feel an ominous aura radiating from your body and couldn't move, but dazai osamu simply sat in his seat, legs propped over his desk, arms behind his head, headphones on, singing with his eyes closed.
you sighed at dazai and flicked your hand, using your red psionics to take his headphones, jolting him back to reality, prompting him to exclaim, "oi, what gives—ack!"
but dazai came to a halt when his shirt collar was yanked upwards, forcing him to rise from his comfortable sitting position, which was now floating mid-air as your red psionics took hold of him.
"well, if it isn't [name]-chan?" dazai's eyes widened slightly at the sight of you, blinking as he tilted his head to the side, "what brings you to the detective agency?" a small smile rose on his lips.
everyone was taken aback by how unaffected dazai was by your presence, and how casual he was with you—he even knew your name.
you scoffed at his friendly smile. you still don't understand how this man managed to leave the port mafia and live a renewed life as if he hadn't been a monster who made your boyfriend's life a living hell in the past, but as much as you hated it, you needed him to help you.
as you heard weapons being unsheathed, you hardened your gaze and flicked your other hand up. at that moment, kunikida's gun and yosano's machete were yanked from their grasps, as was kyouka's blade, which she whipped out as she summoned demon snow to her side.
you glared at them all for a split second before shaking your head, snapping your fingers to drop the weapons to the ground as you turned back to dazai, speaking in a calm tone of voice and folding your arms across your chest, "i'm not here as your enemy, i'm here as a client."
"a client?" dazai held a baffled yet amused look across his face, "how interesting, [name]-chan."
"yes, your client," you confirmed, twisting your hand before dropping it to your side, releasing dazai's collar and allowing him to return to his seat, "and whether you like it or not, dazai, you're going to help me bring back someone."
"bring someone back.." dazai's eyes blinked at you for a moment before it dawned on him who you were referring to, "oh."
yes, of course. that would explain why you were practically blazing with rage.
"hmm, alright. i'll help you out, [name]-chan," dazai said with a smile, standing up from his seat and removing his headphones, "who am i to refuse a client in need of my assistance?"
"hey! you can't be serious about assisting a port mafia member, dazai!" kunikida exclaimed as he looked at you, "don't you remember the last time we took in a client and it turned out to be an ambush?!"
"i'm confident of assisting our client this time, and besides, if [name]-chan really wanted to, we would have been hurt by now," dazai explains with a sigh, shoveling his hands into the pocket of his brown coat, "the scarlet witch of the port mafia can kill in the blink of an eye."
with that, you turned your heel and walked out of the office, pushing the door open with your red psionics.
as you picked up dazai in the air again, dragging his ass with you, leaving kunikida and the rest of them speechless, wondering how and why in the world dazai was so eager to help you, and even more so casual with you.
Tumblr media
you and dazai were on the way to where akutagawa was after he deduced where he and the enemy organization were after you gave him the information you obtained from the mafia. however, dazai asked you a question.
"you know what i don't get, [name]-chan?" dazai began, tapping his cheek with his index finger.
"what?" you asked, scoffing at dazai's familiarity in addressing you.
"why me? you do realize you have that hat rack as your mentor. hell, and your wiggly-woos too," dazai explained briefly, folding his arms across his chest and tilting his head as he stared down at you.
"because the illuminati has an ability user like you. they can nullify abilities and that's why ryunosuke—i mean—akutagawa was taken hostage," you explained to dazai, your eyes narrowing as you looked away, "and the thing is, i don't know if i can work through their ability like i can with yours. i don't know the conditions, and you're the only one who figured out their exact location."
"and how certain are you that i can nullify an ability user similar to mine to help you out?" dazai chuckled, raising a brow at you.
"because yours only requires physical contact, whereas the said ability user's must have a different condition, and in any case a singularity would occur," you sighed, looking up at him, "of course, you would know how to react quick."
"you sure have grown up, [name]-chan. the last time i saw you, you were still quite young, serious and introverted, practically fragile as a glass too," dazai commented, staring down at you with what appears to be a soft gaze that made you scowl, "but still cunning and intellective as ever, and even way back in the mafia, you were the only one with guts to talk like that to me, and it was real amusing."
"don't talk to me like you're that familiar with me. i am not happy to see you at all, dazai," you said bitterly as you and dazai came to a halt in front of the massive steel doors in a secluded forest area somewhere in yokohama.
"ughh, chuuya's attitude has rubbed off on you, [name]-chan. when you were little, you weren't even that hostile to me!" dazai grumbled, childishly pouting, "you're way meaner now!"
"shut the hell up before i take your mouth away!" you yelled, a nerve protruding on your temple from agitation.
you straightened your back and stared at the massive steel doors, shaking your head. you cast a quick glance over your shoulder at dazai, who was no longer acting childishly, but was instead glancing at you with a curt nod, signaling that he was indeed ready.
you extended your hands, blasting the steel doors open with your unrivaled red psionics. as soon as you did, you and dazai were met by a swarm of guards armed with firearms and katanas.
"well, this is unexpected. i was expecting more from the port mafia," the gifted said as he banged against the bars of the cell akutagawa was in, causing him to wake up fairly weakly, his half-lidded, hazy eyes meeting yours, "and you must be this hound's little darling too. well, that's bad, i plan on keeping him around like this."
for a brief moment, your eyes softened as you discovered your beloved in a cell somewhere in the place, battered and bruised, chained like a dog in the cell as the ability user you were expecting stood right in front of prison.
"yes, i'm his little darling alright," you said as dazai stood behind you as you stepped into action, tilting your head.
your [color] eyes then glowed red menacingly as you scowled with your calm voice rising into a higher, and harsher tone, "you want my lover? you're gonna have to fucking kill me!"
you extended your hand to the guards charging at you. with your red psionics, you blasted and tossed them in the air before slamming them to the ground, causing a crater to form and debris and soot to scatter as a result.
instead of simply using your magic to fight harder, you incorporated it into a skillful close hand-to-hand combat, which surprised dazai enough that his mouth was slightly parted.
a smirk crawled across akutagawa's bloodied and exhausted features as he looked at you proudly as you moved sharply with fast precision as your red psionics simultaneously blocked hits of bullets and blades aimed at you as you used them all against the guards.
you even mind-controlled one of the guards to decapitate himself before manipulating his corpse to fight alongside you against the rest of the guards. all the while, you were using him as a shield and didn't care if blood was gushing out from the blades piercing his abdomen and decapitated head.
it was morbid but impressive—so much so that dazai smirked. he had always seen you making the most of your long-range combat ability, but it appears chuuya, your mentor, has changed that drastically. your fighting style now resembled chuuya's.
you now discarded the body and attacked, expertly dodging the other guards by either sliding and ducking fast only to snap their necks or manipulating their bodies to finish each other off with their own weapons.
the enemy organization's ability user stiffened for a split second as you effortlessly crushed a man's skull with your red psionics. as blood splattered on your face, you remained unfazed.
you kept walking as another who was still alive tried to shoot you from among the bodies. however, his limbs twisted and bones broke instantly when you twisted your hand. the last guard screamed in agony as his body mangled and exploded in a burst of blood.
"you know, i would have crumbled by now if i were you in your shoes," dazai mocked the ability user at the end of the area who was standing right beside akutagawa's prison as he trailed after you from behind and laughed.
your eyes held no warmth or remorse. the illuminati member saw only one thing in you: a mindless killing machine of the port mafia with one goal in mind, and that was to get your lover back at any cost.
your aura reeked of bloodlust and enmity, and it was comparable to the boss of the port mafia.
"hell hath no fury like a belladonna scorned," declared dazai as he soundlessly moved right behind the ability user who was frozen in fear at the sight of you.
before the ability's conditions illuminati's member activated, which turned out to be marking the surroundings with glowing violet runes, dazai nullified it, and even if the singularity had caused him to cancel out his own as well, dazai was quick enough to grab his arm behind his back and force him to yield.
you came to a halt and tilted your head, your eyes glowing red as you stared at the man dazai was holding. a smirk crawled across your lips as you turned your heel and walked past akutagawa and dazai.
despite your desire to revel in the vulnerability and helplessness of the gifted was who possessed a similar ability to dazai, your priority was not him.
dazai watched the ability user stiffen up before his neck broke, which dazai assumed you killed him from inside his mind, and looking at it—it wasn't snapped. you literally broke it.
you made your way to the cage prison where akutagawa was and immediately used your magic to break the bars and chains on him. as soon as you did, you knelt down to akutagawa's slumped figure against the bars and began to mend his wounds and injuries, which he visibly flinched at given how strange it feels to be stitched up at the molecular level.
"i'm sorry. i know, it feels weird, but i have to," you exclaimed, your tone of voice now hushed and calm as you no longer bore an emotionless and monstrous look, "just hang on tight for me. okay, ryuu? look, even dazai is here."
"dazai?" akutagawa raised his head weakly to see the bandaged man in a brown coat now standing behind you, looming over you.
"you look like a mess," dazai said to akutagawa as he blinked at him, but he immediately let out a surprised yelp when yanked his hair using your red psionics, "ow! [name]-chan!"
"that's for ryuu," you said, your eyes slightly narrowed at dazai, before returning your gaze to akutagawa, who was now sitting up as his wounds and injuries healed.
"thank you," akutagawa said quietly in gratitude, and you smiled back, but he couldn't help but stare at you as you finished patching him up with your magic.
that's right. even if dazai was right there, akutagawa focus was on you; this is how you know akutagawa is truly in love.
you also knew that akutagawa wasn't one for hugs and physical contact, so you were doing your best not to fling yourself at him, especially since quality time and acts of service were more of his love language.
but that seemed to change just this once.
your eyes widened in surprise as akutagawa leaned in, wrapping his arms around you, his cold body warming up at the close distance between you two, unfazed by the soot and blood all over you. he was just as happy to be reunited with you as you are with him right now.
"ryunosuke.." you muttered in surprise before smiling and tightly embracing him back.
"it feels nice once in a while.." akutagawa held a smug look, chuckling as he glanced at you.
dazai smiled as he watched you and his former subordinate reunited. now, if there's one thing you have in common with him, it's the way akutagawa makes you feel alive and warm, bringing light to your eyes. it was the same thing he had witnessed after leaving the mafia.
however, it amused dazai to see how quickly you transition from a fearsome and terrifying force to be reckoned with to such a sweet and loving darling to akutagawa every single time.

[ author's notes ! for reference, i also used the delted scene of multiverse or madness wherein wanda was supposed to fight the masters of the mystic arts in hand to hand combat. i hoped you enjoyed reading this. thank you for requesting <3
p.s. ! i also added in a small detail in this writing, which is reader being chuuya's subordinate (again) but also his little sibling figure. i figured it'd only make sense because akutagawa used to be mentored by dazai, so you should have chuuya as your mentor lolol. that's all, bye-bye ! ]

needing a real backstory for kunikida
Tumblr media
"he was a math teacher" it's the shadiest thing I've ever heard
saw a video with "christmas kids" by roar on my fyp, with basically traumatized ada and fukuzawa being the dad everybody headcanon him as, and all the comments were like "and then there's kunikida the ex math teacher"
... there are people out there who consider kunikida as the normal and non-mentally-ill detective? the "only normal one"? man's one of the less normal of the group, and the thing that helps making him so strange is his damned backstory
the non existing one, yeah
(and he wasn't really a math teacher, he dropped out of college and was a teacher like two days a week, it was just a side job)
he's the most passionate about protecting people and the one who most values their life (yes, the kids getting killed and bombed, yes. he is deeply traumatized, yes), and everyone thinks of him as the best person at the agency, Ranpo made it clear in season 3.
(his morals are... even if you don't like the concept of morals, he's a little fucked up like anyone else. he's the one who was ready to leave a homeless 18ys orphan on the streets cause he could have caused troubles to the agency (at the end he did but he deserved all the love in the world so nothing against him) and proceeded to attacked said orphan in a restaurant and in front of everyone when atsushi said he knew something about one of their cases. So yeah, just the way he's always screaming ab "the agency reputation" is kinda suspicious, especially when he doesn't consider asl something dangerous for their reputation tackling a teenager on the floor. he cares about the agency's reputation, but in his own personal way)
(he's about to break atsushi's arm like it's a spaghetto. even if he just wanted it to be an... incentive to talk, it was mad man. dazai osamu had to stop him)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(or the oh so famous mischaracterization where he's the most polite person in the world? he's there talking shit about dazai every two panels, and ends up being rude to almost everyone)
Tumblr media
or just his relationship with dazai.
he hates the way dazai always tries new suicide methods and talks abou it while they're working (we all know he hates it cause he cares but let him think we believe he does it just "for the agency reputation") but he doesn't hate Dazai. one thing I hate is fanfictions where Kunikida is a fucking asshole who treats Dazai badly for no reason (the "stop nagging me" trend cause he tells dazai to work? that's literally the most normal thing ever happened in this story).
He respects him and recognise his intellect and EVIDENTLY trusts him. just this part up here, it's the first chapter and he has that look that just tells "im gonna trust for this" (we know you care for him stoop) (not comparing them to soukoku, that's another thing. stop talking shit about one of the two partnership just because you ignore the bond both chuuya and kunikida share with that lucky man) (wish I was him)
(and Dazai definitely has some sort of respect for him. Kunikida has been exposed, like everyone else, to some real atrocities and still respects his ideals in every way he can, and from Dazai perception he's the definition of human, just like Chuuya. I like to think that the years spent with Chuuya teached him a lot of things like this, and him more than anyone else would respect the strength Kunikida has. he probably still think of him as a little naive, but is our man really so innocent? he knows that his ideals cannot always be respected. he doesn't believe in a stupid utopia where the world he wish for is real, and he makes compromises with this truth)
(love the duo)
Tumblr media
his respect for Fukuzawa is the thing (with his ability) that messes everything up even more. he hates authority (gonna kin him rn) and is something almost foregone, since he values so much human's life. it's impossible for him to enjoy something like politics and politicians with the way he lives, and at the same time he respects so deeply Fukuzawa, that is in fact authority to him.
so
some could say it's because Fukuzawa trained him so they know each other but than how did fukuzawa starts training a college student? how the hell did these two met?
I refuse to think it was something normal like idk, Kunikida was interested in martial arts and met him and they drank something together. and even if it was something "innocent", fukuzawa's history with dealing with teenagers (kunikida joined the agency before he was twenty) is "you're traumatized, I am too, let's become a family and heal each other" (not really but almost just trust me) so yes, he saw something in kunikida so he wasn't just a nobody who ended up here like nothing
maybe Fukuzawa knew that he was what the Agency needed, someone so strong and human, ready to die for what he believed in, working with people who all had a twisted sense of morality
Tumblr media
he's so silly
and his ability.
just
yeah he has the "poor growing up" vibes (and I say it as someone who is definitely not rich and has had their bad months) and I believe in the "abilities generated from trauma" theory, so someone who can create small and daily things out of paper definitely had a problem having them in other ways, and used his ability to survive. so stop saying he's not traumatized, everybody in this manga is so shut up
(we need the real backstory) (we're not gonna get it cause Asagiri at the end of fifteen wrote a paragraph talking ab how he loves to see fans making headcanons. so yeah gonna headcanon his childhood till I'm dead)
(his relationship with Katai is suspicious, I'm not talking about our man obvious homosexuality but the bond itself. gotta work more ab them) (I'm joking) (or am I)

i love this oh my word. i looked up the meaning to the song, and i feel like it’s very fitting for arlecchino and this scenario. for the arlecchino bit i also referenced the one show from the itallian theater since not a lot is known about arlecchino from genshin. also, i hope you don’t mind that i threw in some headcanons! thank you for requesting <3
Tumblr media
With a S/o Like Arlecchino from Genshin; PM!Osamu Dazai and Chuuya Nakahara
Format: Headcanons and Scenario
Potential Warnings: Mentions of blood, violence
Here’s a link to the song mentioned.
Tumblr media
First things first, you’d be the backbone of your relationship. You’d make sure that the two of them stay in line, and you’d make sure that they don’t try to kill each other over the littlest things.
The two of them would obviously know about your distain towards the Port Mafia. You have made it very clear that you would betray the mafia in a heartbeat if it was beneficial to you.
Now, since Arlecchino is a harbinger, let’s say that you’re an executive for the Port Mafia. You’d be known for leading a squad that specialized in vigilante-like work. This is what originally what drew Dazai in because he’s never seen someone try to do some good while being in the mafia.
You attracted Chuuya by being stern with your underlings, and how strong you seemed on the battlefield. One day he was assigned to work with you, and he was pleasantly surprised by your physical strength.
How all of you got in a relationship was quite tricky. Originally it was Dazai that confessed to you first, but Chuuya ended up overhearing and decided to interrupt the conversation by confessing his feelings as well.
You had to calm the two down, then lectured them about getting all worked up over something as idiotic as this. Eventually you made the two apologize to each other and made them make an agreement.
The relationship wouldn’t be as bad as it may seem. Dazai and Chuuya both put in effort to not fight while they’re in your presence. Every now and then you’d find them arguing over you in private, but once you gave them a cold glare they’d immediately stop talking.
Scenario…
“But (Name)..!” Dazai whined. “You already spent a lot of time with Chuuya! Do you love him more than me?”
You let out a prolonged sigh. You then pinched the bridge of your nose. “Osamu, I already told you. We were sent on a mission together. He didn’t take me on a date or anything of the sort. Do you understand me?”
On this particular day Mori had sent you and Chuuya out on a search and eliminate mission. Chuuya’s ability allowed him to cause a lot of collateral damage, so it was perfect for this particular mission. You only sat down somewhere behind him and watched as he tore through the enemies defenses.
The mission went well, and the two of you returned home without any injuries. As of now Chuuya was in the shower cleaning off some blood while you sat in the living room with Dazai holding onto your shoulders like it’s his lifeline. You almost felt as if he was going to crush your bones from how hard he was holding onto you.
“It’s not fair! You’re always sent on missions with Chuuya instead of me!” He continued to whine.
You put your hand on Dazais face and pushed him away from me. “It’s the bosses orders. There is nothing I can do about it.”
Dazai sighed as he flopped down onto the couch. He started to pout as you picked up your phone. You then started to scroll through some books that you wanted to purchase.
The man let out another sigh, this time louder than the last. You directed your gaze back at him, glaring daggers.
“If you’re so unhappy about the arrangements that Mori have made, then I highly suggest talking to him about it. I absolutely hate it when you act like this,” you said with an unamused expression.
Eventually Chuuya emerged from the bathroom, wearing comfortable pajamas. You glanced up at him then looked back down at your phone. He didn’t seem happy in the slightest.
“I could hear you whining from across the god damn house!” Chuuya raised his voice as he pointed at Dazai. “Do you know how fucking annoying you are?! I was just trying to take a nice and relaxing shower, but you just had to ruin it!”
You glanced up at Chuuya once more. He immediately stopped his yelling.
“Are you done? I dislike it when you engage in fights while I’m around; you know that,” you stated. You then looked at Dazai. “And you need to stop whining whenever something doesn’t go your way. It annoys the both of us. Are we done here? Good!”
You stood up and then grabbed Dazai and Chuuya. You immediately gave them a soft hug.
“You two will be the death of me,” you said contently.
Chuuya hummed as he wrapped his arms around the two of you. Dazai followed suit, squeezing the both of you rather harshly.
“You’re gonna break my bones!” Chuuya exclaimed.
“No I won’t!”
You only sighed. Tonight was going to be a long night of meaningless bickering.

Ello o/, I love your works so much fjridnddknd /pos. May i req (if you're ok taking requests) a the reader pretends to be a client but actually a member of the agency but the ADA doesn't remember the reader because they have an ability to make anyone/everyone forget they exist and use it to protect the agency also dazai is the only one who remembers them. It can be a headcanon or a scenario thank you! \o/
hehehe the angst potential on this one was too good to pass up. I tried my best on this but it isn't my faveorite. Still I hope you enjoy <333
Tumblr media
It was sheer torment, an excruciating agony, to be the sole guardian of your memory. Every recollection of your name, your voice, your gentle touch, your boundless kindness, felt like shards of glass piercing his soul. Your last words to him before you vanished echoed relentlessly in his mind, a haunting refrain, as he watched you stroll through the bustling streets of Yokohama, like you were simply ordinary.
He felt his heart break to see you again after so long, looking to Kunikida and Atsushi for some sign that you hadn't done what he was so worried you had. But there was nothing- neither showed the recognition he was waiting to see.
He stared until he caught your eye, people moving past you both as you saw the man you least wanted to see in the world.
The only man who knew what you were
The only one you'd loved
You looked at him with a million unspoken words in your eyes- I'm sorry....Please forgive me...Please let me go
And he said nothing.
///
A year prior, you had woken before the sun. You'd left Dazai with the softest kiss you could, biting back tears as you slipped from your bed, whispering apologies under your breath and forcing yourself to do what you knew was necessary.
You'd suspected the Port Mafia was on your trail for information you had given up years ago- suspected that Mori had wanted you punished for giving up that information since you'd vanished with Dazai so long ago. But now, it was more than just a small murmur in the back of his mind. Mori had been actively gunning for you; his men had followed you, stalked you, threatened you in your home, and worse, threatened every innocent person in the Agency that knew nothing of the danger they were in.
So for their sakes, you were running. You were forcing yourself to vanish, and trying to believe you weren't making a mistake. Your ability had gone into effect already; everyone else you knew now no longer had any memory you'd ever existed. But Osamu Dazai wasn't everyone else. That was part of why you loved him so much.
And it was why you had to leave.
You couldn't risk his life, couldn't risk him knowing anything for fear of the Mafia seeking him out to question your whereabouts. He needed to know absolutely nothing. And you were going to make sure of it. You'd slipped from your bed that morning, trying to stop the tears that ached to spill down your cheeks, You forced yourself to kiss him goodbye, forced yourself to leave behind the only love you'd ever known, and told yourself it was for your own good. You had to sever all ties, no matter how much it wounded you.
You abandoned your life that day and left your heart behind in that bed, vanishing into the early morning mist.
///
Even after all this time, after you'd convinced yourself that you'd let go and could return to the city, your heart still clenched when you felt Dazai's gaze, just as it always had. In the past, his eyes had brimmed with love, overwhelming you with their intensity, making you look away for fear of being consumed. Now, they were wounded, carrying a pain that was too much to bear. You couldn't bear to meet his gaze for a second longer, for fear that you would rush back into his arms, longing for him to hold you once more.
But you couldn't.
Because he couldn't be yours anymore. For his safety, for his own good, he had to remain distant. To love you was to invite danger, to plunge into an abyss with no bottom, sinking deeper even as your lungs screamed for air and your body yearned for light. And so, you faced the hardest choice of all.
With a heavy heart, you turned and walked away, brushing away the tears that clung to your eyes, knowing this was the final farewell. He would never forget you, never forget the pain of watching you choose to leave.
In the end, you were both wounded, the dagger of your departure carving just as deeply into your own chest as it did into his.
You ensured that your last memory would etch itself into his heart as a burning ember of resentment, enough to stoke the flames of hatred, making him despise you so intensely that he would never yearn to see your face again.
He would never see your tears, or know how you ached for him. It didn't matter.
None of that mattered anymore.

Dazai X Odasaku!Sister Ch8
Tumblr media
Chapter 8: "I'll Be Here To Welcome You"
Summary: Oda's sister finds herself at Dazai's port mafia apartment after he offered to let her stay the night. He tries to get a reaction out of her but fails miserably, or does he? (Part 1 of 2, this one is more fluff and the next part will be very angst.)
Warning: pm! fifteen year old dazai, Dazai self destructing, Odasaku death mentions, Dazai is rough but for a purpose, manipulative behavior from both sides, underage drinking, talks of suicide. I gave Oda's sister a name but you can imagine it as y/n.
(This is chapter eight of my fanfic "Timeless" which is now on A03. It carries on from the three part intro I posted a couple days ago. I'll link it below to fully understand the story. Asagao's ability is to stop time for up to six seconds.)
Three Part Intro Here: (just cause the first chapter is so long)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
A03 Version Here:
Word count: 5k total
As the two kids made their way through the city streets of Yokohama, Dazai’s fingers tightened onto Odasaku’s sister’s wrist in order to drag her to their next destination.
He had tried to walk in front of her but after a couple blocks it was clear that Asagao’s blurry eyesight along with her drunken giggles betrayed her with each step, bumping into nearby strangers and random walls. And though it was quite funny to watch, the boy also didn’t really wanna treat a concussion tonight.
But Dazai also didn’t really like the connotation that hand holding had either, the touch far too personal and intimate for his liking. So, he settled on her wrist, pulling her behind him like some sort of puppy on a leash. It wasn’t like Asa seemed to mind though.
No, in fact it was like the girl was in her own world, smiling like an idiot the entire time as they turned another corner only for her to finally speak since their time at the bar. “Hey, Osu. Not that I’m not happy about your offer or anything but now that I think about it, isn’t it gonna seem suspicious for me to go to your house like this?”
Dazai only shook his head though, pausing his steps for a moment in order to pull his arm towards him so the Asagao would stumble forward and meet him halfway. “Don’t worry your pretty little head about it. I do this all the time.”
And stumble she did, the girl gasping at the sudden move only to place her hands onto his forearms for support so she didn’t completely fall on her face. “You do?”
Nodding back, he hummed, not minding the touch as it wasn’t gentle or intimate in any way. “Mhm. Does that make you jealous?”
Asa only turned her head though, clearly confused by what he was trying to say. “Why would I be jealous of that?”
Lifting his fingers up, Dazai’s thumb and forefinger moved toward her cheeks before forcing her head forward in order for him to give a low mischievous smirk.  “Because of the things I do with those women.”
He was messing with her obviously but there was also some truth in his statement, because he did play around with women, he did take them to his port mafia based apartment and then leave them on the street once he was done like nothing had happened.
Dazai used them, he took the attributes that benefited him and then he threw them away without so much of a thank you or a call afterwards.
And now he was doing the same thing to Oda’s sister..well in a way.
He was using her for her ties to his best friend, and the only difference was that Asa was fully aware of it. That didn’t make it right though. Even Dazai could understand that much.
But all that self awareness didn’t stop him from halting his evil ways. What could he say? Bad habits died hard. This was all the boy knew how to do anyways and it was Asa’s fault for ever agreeing to such a toxic relationship to begin with.
Asagao only frowned though, her icy blue eyes batting in pure innocence between his fingers as she replied softly. “Why would that make me jealous though?”
Then all at once, she watched the feared port mafia executive gasp in order to reel back before slumping over in a childish pout. “Ah! Asa-chan, you’re so mean! Girlfriends are supposed to be mad and cry and throw things when boyfriends talk about other women! It’s like you don’t care about me at all!”
The girl only blinked in surprise though, her drunk haze not allowing her to connect the upset in her brain. She thought their relationship was already pretty clear. “But we aren’t really boyfriend and girlfriend though, we are just using each other..”
Yet that’s when Dazai gasped once more before dramatically falling to his hands and knees in order to look up at her and point to his bandaged face. “That doesn’t matter! It’s the principle of the thing. I am an attractive man so it’s only natural you’d be jealous of my history of sleeping with other women and taking them to my place like I'm doing right now with you.”
Didn’t she get it, didn’t she understand that he was treating her just like any other slut and whore that crossed his path? She wasn’t special to him, he had basically told her that to her face and she still wasn’t jealous? He thought she said that she fell for him.
Asa only crouched down to meet him though, her hands wrapping around her knees before giving him that same candy coated sweet smile she always did. “Oh! I couldn’t do that though. What you’ve done in the past and even the present doesn’t bother me. I already know where we stand so you don’t gotta worry about that, Osu!”
Narrowing his eyes in skepticism, Dazai then watched in real time as his insults and mockery dissolved before it hit her face causing the boy to sigh heavily.
She should’ve been mad at him, it would’ve been so much easier than whatever this was.
She had already let him get away with so many things. Why couldn’t she be normal for once and threaten him with the disgust like he deserved? Why was she instead always staring at him with the cute innocent little smile, the one that made his heart twist and turn with self disgust?
Lifting his hands up once more, Dazai than pinched the blind happiness from her lips, pushing her cheeks together in a goofy fashion in order to drop his act with a grumble. “Boo, you’re no fun Asa-chan. What kind of reaction is that? I wanted to see your cheeks get all puffy and your face get all red!
Asagao seemed to think about his sentence for a moment before her own fingers moved to her cheeks in order to puff them out in a fake pout to try and simulate what he was looking for only for Dazai to snort and shake his head in exasperation.
Ah damn it, she was such a cute little drunk. Wasn’t she? Wanting to please him like this even though he was just messing with her. What a loser.
So much so, Dazai then closed his eyes pushing her head down with his hand, rubbing the top of her hair in a messy fashion before standing back up. “Don’t push yourself, darling. You’re gonna pass out like that and I’m not gonna carry you.  Besides, we are here already.”
Reaching his hand out, he then reattached his possessive hold around her wrist before pulling her back off the ground in order to walk up to the massive glass building in front of them.
Asagao felt her head spin at the motion before her blurry eyes couldn’t help but focus on the sight before her. And even with half of the view and alcohol in her system, the girl could tell that the place was intimidating, the building looming over her in silent wait.
She didn’t have much time to process it though as Dazai’s body pushed her past the entrance and into the lobby only for the two kids to be met by a row of lined up black suited men, their heads immediately bowing to the sight of the executive. “Welcome back, sir.”
Dazai completely ignored them though, his posture stiff and ever watchful as Asa gave them a polite smile and bow of her head in return with a small greeting of her own. “Oh, hello. Nice to meet you. I’m..”
Yet that’s then the boy simply tugged her arm forward in order to practically push the girl into the nearest elevator as fast as possible, her unsteady legs stumbling into the wall with a squeak of surprise.
It was rough, yes. But this was how he treated all the other girls that he brought back and it couldn't look any different. No, nothing could raise suspicion that this was more than a typical one night stand. Otherwise their escapade would be reported to Mori.
And that was a headache he didn’t want to deal with, knowing that her existence would cause Mori to dig his claws into the poor innocent Asagao without hesitation.
Hell, she probably shouldn’t have even been here in the first place. Ango would've definitely killed him for it, and not in a fun way.
But living on the edge of danger was an exciting thrill Dazai couldn’t pass up. He knew he could be smarter than Mori. He knew he could fool him, and that enough was reason to test his little theory and win.
But in order to do that, he had to make this little act believable. That’s why he didn’t bat an eye at his rough demeanor, simply stepping into the elevator only to watch his idiot lackey subordinates try to follow.
Oh no, he couldn’t have that. Seems like they were already suspicious of his intentions. Asagao wasn’t normally the type of girl he would’ve brought back after all. She was dorky and naive, usually the sluts he picked were stupid but but clearly experienced.
Turning his head back to the men, Dazai spoke, his voice chilling and final. “That won’t be necessary.”
And for a moment, the men hesitated, their steps pausing before glancing back to the red haired female and then back to their boss in reply. “But sir..”
Realizing he needed to prove his intentions, Dazai then turned back to Oda’s sister before closing his eyes with conflict. He had a plan, he knew how to get them off his back but he also knew that Odasaku wouldn’t have approved.
But desperate times caused for desperate measures.
And to make matters worse, his silent stare seemed to cause Asagao to sense the tension as well, her head turning in drunken confusion before lifting her hand out in concern. “Osam..”
Yet before she could finish his name, Dazai’s hand grasped onto hers forcefully in order to push his body into hers as Asagao’s back slammed against the wall of the elevator before he shifted his head to obstruct the view of the subordinates.
Then he slapped his hand over her surprised mouth before pressing his lips roughly to his own hand, the distance practically nonexistent as Dazai’s handmade barrier became the only thing keeping the two from skin to skin contact.
But from the way his head was turned, the men only saw the executives body and hair in order for them to make the connection in their mind that Dazai had ravaged her lips in a possessive claim of ownership.
The move only lasted for a second before the executive allowed his hand to drop from her lips in order to place one shushing motion in its place and turn around towards the watchful eyes with cold resolve. “I said, I wanted to be alone. Or do I need to repeat myself?”
All at once, the men jumped in clear fear before immediately bowing in apology in order to click the elevator button with a gasp. “Sorry sir, please enjoy your night.”
Then the door closed, leaving Dazai and Asagao alone as the cocky victorious boy turned towards her with a teasing smirk. “Now don’t get carried away, Asa-chan. You know why I did that right?”
Yet the moment he turned to her, it seemed like Asa was frozen in place, her entire body as still as a statue, almost like she was in some sort of state of shock. “Y-Yeah no. I get it. They were suspicious so you had to…”
Nodding back in confirmation, Dazai then lowered his eyes before deciding to mock her even more, his hands resting on the wall a couple inches from her head. “Of course, that’s just a little sample. If you wanted, once we get to my place I could remove my hand and we could continue where we left off?”
Yet a second later, the boy simply freed her from his prison in order to give her a goofy defensive stance. “Just kidding! I know better than to expect that kind of reaction from you.”
She hadn’t given him anything when he played the jealousy card so Dazai was sure that it would be the same here. It seemed like the girl had no self awareness that he was a man at all. She didn’t see him that way apparently, which was annoying in itself.
Was he not handsome enough to make her heart race? Surely any other woman would’ve swooned over the chance to kiss him. So why wasn’t she the same?
Giving up completely, Dazai then shrugged his shoulders before the elevator dinged as the boy made his way out without a care. “Ah well, now that’s over, let’s go.”
Yet the boy got halfway across the floor before turning around in order to realize that Asagao was still standing in the elevator, her body just as stone still as before.
Well, that was weird, even for her.
Backtracking back to the place, Dazai then turned his head in confusion, “Asa-chan?”
At the sound of her name, Asa seemed to jump back to life, her speech stuttered and small with every approaching step. “O-Oh yeah, sorry. Just give me a second. My legs feel like jelly for some reason.”
Feeling himself stop right in front of her, Dazai then frowned before poking his finger straight into the forehead only for the girl to immediately collapse like a tower of cards, her legs giving out from underneath her before she giggled pathetically on the floor. “H-Ha ha sorry...I don’t know what’s gotten into me. You can just leave me here, I’ll catch up..”
The boy only watched in stunned silence though, seeing the seemingly unchanging Oda Asagao crumble to her knees by a simple fake kiss in order for his lips to twist into a smug smile.
So she does see me as a man after all.
And this time it was Dazai that crouched down to meet her, his lips letting out a small airy chuckle of pure amusement and relief before placing his hands onto his knees in reply. “Aww, Asa-chan. You’re so cute. I didn’t know you could be so flustered by me.”
Finally finding use of her muscles, Asa then frowned before covering her entire face with her hands as Dazai saw the very bright pink hue of her entire face. “I-It was just a surprise, that’s all. That and the alcohol mixed together are making me weird.”
The boy knew it was more than that though. Sure, she probably was more aware of him because of the alcohol but that blush on her cheeks was definitely because of their almost kiss. Ah, Asa-chan was always amusing him in the best ways.
He couldn’t get sick of this even if he tried.
Because of that, Dazai only rolled his eyes, not taking her words at face value before reaching his arms forward in order to hook them under her armpits. “Sure sure, whatever you wanna call it. Now come on, up you go!”
Lifting his arms up, Asagao’s body then followed him, hosting her upwards until she was back on her feet before she stumbled into his chest. Wow, he really did a number on her, didn’t he? Poor princess couldn’t pull herself together,
Dazai laughed in response, placing his hand to the back of her head in order to ground her to reality “So needy, love.”
The girl only shook her head though, muttering a reply into his jacket. “Smmorry..”
The words were muttered but he knew she was apologizing in some sort of way. Ah, damn it. Just when he thought Oda’s sister couldn’t get any more adorable she surpassed it.
Thinking about his spontaneous kiss, Dazai felt his own eyes lower. This was kind of his fault in the first place. He didn’t give her any warning about what he was going to do. And though it was obvious that Asa didn’t hate his plan, she was certainly stunned by it.
And normally his response would’ve been to step back and let her fall on her face but after their night at Bar Lupin and the blind words of faith he uttered about him, Dazai tried something different.
This was his fault after all. “Ah well, I guess I’ll take responsibility this once.”
Then the boy simply reached down before hoisting Asa up by her legs in order to push her over his shoulder, much to her surprise. “O-Osamu, what are you..”
Dazai only cut her off though, voice smug. “Not another word, love or I’ll drop you.”
That seemed to be enough to get her to pause before Dazai simply walked around the corner and opened the door to his apartment, not even bothering to flick on the light and throw the poor red haired girl face first onto the sofa and rid himself of the overly out of character act.
Asagao only groaned at the impact though, feeling the soft cotton assault her face.
Yet that’s when his phone started to sound inside his pocket only for the boy to pull the object and read the text with a frown as Asa looked up from the cushions. “Who is that?”
Sighing heavily, Dazai then shoved the object back in his jacket before replying shortly. “Mori. He probably wants to know why I missed the scheduled raid today.”
At that, Asagao turned her head, anxiety in her eyes as she tried to process the sentence in her drunken brain. “What? Why did you miss it? Oh no, it’s not because I fell asleep on you, right? I told you you should’ve pushed me off. I didn’t wanna get you in trouble with your boss.”
Dazai only shook his head though, unbothered by her stress. “Relax, love. I skip boring things all the time. Besides, it was worth it to hear the anger in my dog's voice! You did me a favor.”
He then chuckled to himself, still pleased with the trouble he caused Chuuya only for Asa to speak out of his psychotic glee. “You should go smooth things out then.”
Frowning at her words, Dazai then leaned forward in order to teasingly run a couple fingers through her messy crimson locks. “And leave my favorite girl all alone on our first night together?”
Asagao only shook her head though. “I don’t wanna keep you from your job. Plus it would be bad if they came looking for you, right? I’m not supposed to be here.”
She was making him see logic, something that Dazai didn’t really want to face. The last thing he wanted to do was go see Mori and listen to his old man nagging, but she was right. If he didn’t show up then the boss would probably come to him, and that’s what he was trying to avoid.
Looks like he had no choice. Just great.
Humming in distaste for the truth, Dazai then leaned forward, his voice slightly threatening and low. “Then will you promise me you’ll be a good girl and wait for me here?”
Asa didn’t seem shaken at all, her eyes playing in confusion under her large framed glasses. “What do you think I’m gonna do?”
At that, Dazai couldn’t help but smile, telling her the absolute and honest truth. “I don’t know, and that’s the best thing about you, Asa-chan. I can’t predict you. You’re an enigma in the most interesting ways.”
And she was, she really was. To Dazai, Oda’s sister was the most unpredictable force he had ever met. Sure, there were moments he could guess, there were circumstances where he could control her in the way he wanted, but there were others that left him completely and utterly speechless.
When she said that he was a good man, when she called him precious, when she confessed that she would’ve joined the port mafia for him, they played on a strange complicated repeat inside his brain, the boy still unable to process them in any sense. She was dangerous in all the best and worst ways possible.
But the most dangerous part of it all was that Asagao was completely oblivious to it all. She had no idea what kind of impact, what kind of unraveling her seemingly insignificant words had on the port mafia executive.
And to prove his point, Asagao only smiled in response, the gentle and kind nature in itself absolutely earth shattering as she hummed back. “I’ll be here to welcome you home..”
Not wanting to get uncomfortable by the proximity of her light, Dazai then quickly took a step back before immediately heading from the door before he changed his mind.
How foolish of her, the audacity to say such a thing. This place wasn’t his home.
He didn’t even have one of those.
Shaking the thought from his mind, Dazai then looked back at the unmoving girl before speaking back threateningly, knowing it wouldn’t shake her in any way. “You better keep to that, love. Breaking a promise with the devil is a fate worse than death..”
And just like that the mafioso disappeared from the apartment completely.
------
After a couple minutes, Asagao finally started to gain feeling back in her legs in order to sit up from the darkened sofa with a sigh. What was wrong with her? Why did she have to act so stupid in front of Osamu? Stupid alcohol, usually she was cooler than that.
And more she thought about it, the more she felt her hands run over her face in an embarrassingly flustered groan. Osu kept having to look after her, first with her mistake of falling asleep on his shoulder and now when he carried her because she couldn’t stand.
Just great, Asagao, you keep inconveniencing him.
And to be honest, the fact that he was still sticking around was a complete mystery to her. Usually people got sick of her by now. It was probably because of their deal, that had been the only reason he was tolerating her this much.
So much so, Asagao wanted to do something for him. Either for an apology or in some sort of appreciation for him showing her that wonderful bar and dealing with her this long. But what? What could make a scary mafia executive happy?
Thinking about the idea, the girl then scrambled over to the light switch on the wall in order to flick the object and be greeted by Osamu’s apartment for the first time.
Then without meaning to, Asagao’s eyes widened at the sight before her.
And even without her full vision, the girl could feel the cold and empty nature of his place, like no one had ever actually occupied it. The walls were bare simple white, each room massive and yet just as lonely as the last.
Sure, in theory this place was a dream, a playboy's penthouse, an expensive luxury, dripping with rare future/views of Yokohama, but in actuality it just felt like an empty shell. Did Osamu even sleep here half the time, or did he choose somewhere else?
Because to her, it seemed like the latter.
Wanting to see if she was right, Asagao then gripped the ends of her glasses before slowly taking them off only for her to quickly slap them back on with a horrified gasp. No, she was right. This place was just as sad as she thought it was.
It really was a reflection of who he was on the inside, a depressed, struggling, suicidal boy that was crying for help only to be met with ear chilling silence.
The very sight caused Asagao to dip her head before an idea flashed inside her head. What if he came home to something different this time, what if she could change this empty sad feeling into something else? Would that make him smile?
Would that give him the same happiness she felt tonight at Bar Lupin?
Quickly thinking back to conversations she overheard back home, Asa's eyes then filled with determination before moving outside of the apartment and down the elevator in order to reach the main lobby they had walked through before.
Yet her thoughts were quickly stopped when she came face to face with those very same subordinates from earlier, their eyes looking at the girl with cautious confusion as she beamed. “Oh, hello! Remember me? We’ve met before, well kinda...anyways don’t mind me! I’m just gonna..”
Although that’s when the men seemingly stepped into her path before speaking roughly. “Dazai has ordered that you go back to his apartment and wait for him to return. I suggest you listen before things get bad for you.”
He was threatening her, but Asa hardly cared, the girl was more interested in the first part of his sentence. Ah, Osamu knew she wouldn’t stay put. Smart boy. “Oh, did he? And what were his exact orders?”
The man’s voice was straightforward. “To not let you out of our sight.”
Humming in response, Asa then rocked her back on her heels before answering sweetly.  “And if I don’t listen?”
At that, she watched the port mafia men take another step closer to her, something that didn’t cause her to shift at all. “Then tonight will be the last night you’re alive..”
His fingers then brushed towards the gun on his side as Asagao resisted the urge to snort at his piss poor attempt of a threat. How unoriginal. “And how would your executive feel about you ending the life of his girl?”
This time it was the subordinates turn to laugh, their voices laced with venom. “He doesn’t care about some no-named slut. You’re only here for one reason and then you will be disposed of like all the others.”
Asa only placed a finger to her lips though, thinking about the insult before answering a second later. “Right, but are you really sure about that? Because if you are wrong I can imagine the punishment from Dazai won’t be very pretty, once he finds out you killed his favorite toy after being ordered to keep an eye on me.”
And then she watched as the man’s muscles started to tense, his next steps hesitant as Asagao resisted the urge to sadistically smirk under her breath. Got him.
She hated this manipulative part of her but in situations like this it made things quite useful. Besides, these guys had it coming with that insult.
This was for Osamu after all. Because of that she knew she couldn't let these rude men get in her way.
Pushing even further, Asagao then guided her hand down towards the gun on his waist before throwing his own threat back into his face. “But if you truly think you’re right then go ahead and shoot me, mister scary subordinate. Just know you might be skinned alive for it later...”
Then she waited, she waited for her words to sink into his stupid little brain. It was foolish on his part to assume such things about Osamu after all. She knew this guy didn’t have the confidence to put a bullet in her brain without consequence.
It was a huge risk, one that very few would make.
And a moment later, she watched him cave, the subordinates' stance shrinking back only for Asagao to clap her hands in a victorious fake cutesy laughter. “Ah, I knew we could come to an understanding! Now, chop chop, I could use some extra hands for this and since you need to keep an eye on me anyways this is the perfect opportunity!”
And just like that, step one for Osamu was complete.
Don't worry Osu, I'll make you happy for sure.
----
(Like I said, this is more of a part 1 cause the next chapter connects to it. It will have a different tonal shift though and deal a lot with Dazai's character so I split it up. )
( Also don't worry, Dazai and Asa are fifteen currently in this story and though it's implied about his past with women, being in the mafia and all, I'm not gonna write any of those things cause he's a minor. Them staying the night at his place is more of a subversion type thing which will make more sense in the next chapter)
Thanks for the love on this! This is my first bsd story and you've all made me feel so welcome! It hasn't even been a month and we are almost at 500 readers on A03. I'm gonna cry. <3

Character: Edgar Allen Poe x female reader
Warnings: one (1) single curse word, angst to fluff
Recommended you read part 1 first
You stared back at your reflection in the mirror, fighting with yourself whether or not you were really going to go through with attending. It’d be a shame not to go after you spent so much time getting ready- and you know Dazai was looking forward to going..
But could you really put on a smile and have a good time after getting your heart broken yesterday?
You sighed as you leaned back in your chair and turned to stare out the window. The thunder clouds from earlier had yet to release the heavy downpour that had been forecasted but it had started to drizzle. Still, not enough to cancel the gala, unfortunately.
The gala..
Yesterday Kunikida and Dazai uncovered a huge financial scheme happening inside a major corporation. As thanks, the CEO invited every member of the agency to attend the gala they were holding the next evening - they even allowed each member to bring along a plus one.
Of course, when the president revealed you could all invite someone to go, there was only one person who came to mind - your good friend and occasional co-worker Poe.
You had long since developed feelings for the eccentric young man. He occupied your thoughts, your dreams, and when you could manage it - your free time as well.
You loved hearing him passionately explain the plot he was working on for his next novel, swooned when he kept your favorite treats in his home and Karl was never anything short of an angel when you came and visited.
You couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment you fell for him, but you figure it must have been sometime soon after you began working together.
You remember becoming fascinated with the typically shy and reserved man the first time you witnessed one of his bursts of confidence and enthusiasm. Something about watching Poe - who struggled to get out ‘hello’ when you first met - transformed into a passionate excitable man who just captivated you.
You had gone over yesterday evening with the intent of inviting him to go with you as your date. He had been working in his office when you knocked on his door and came to stand in front of his desk. Your heart was pounding and you could hear yourself trip over your words as you told him about the gala and your ability to bring a plus one.
And in just a moment your heart went from rapidly beating to feeling like it had stopped altogether.
"A plus one? Well…I'm sure the man you choose to bring will have a wonderful time."
Had you not been obvious enough? You know he can be a little oblivious when it comes to social situations but the man is a mystery fanatic and detective!
You looked like a nervous wreck and your body language was sure to be giving off all the right signals. So the only logical reason he would have brushed off your obvious implication was that Edgar Allen Poe didn't return your feelings after all.
"Are you going to go?"
His question had pulled your focus away from your heartache and back to the present. He had returned his focus to the document he had been writing, but you knew he was still listening to you. At times you thought he seemed completely distracted and as if there was no possible way he could've heard you, only to respond to your comment or question with an answer that could only come from someone who had been listening intently.
Was this your fault? Had you completely misread the situation and made a rushed assumption? But you could've sworn you'd seen a page or two with your name written at the bottom just barely hidden under stacks of papers on his desk before..
"Oh..I'm uhm..I'm not sure yet,"
The smile on your face had been forced as your brain panicked and grabbed at any and every possible excuse you could come up with.
"But I suppose I should call Dazai back if I am going. Wouldn't want him to change his mind."
You had faked a laugh to cover the cry you felt coming, but seeing as he hadn’t commented on its authenticity you assumed he had bought it. Your good friend Dazai had asked if you wanted to go with him and was well aware of your feelings for the mystery novelist. Asking him had been his idea in the first place so you supposed it was only fair he be your scapegoat as well.
He had paused his writing for just a moment before his focus returned as he hummed, "I think you should go…I'm sure you'll have a lovely time with him."
You could've sworn you felt your broken heart shatter at his insistence you go with another - you were right, there's absolutely no way he likes you back. After all, what man insists the girl he loves goes out with another man?
You sighed as you moved over to the window.
The drizzle had begun to come down harder and the massive thunder clouds had blocked out the sun and darkened the already dim evening sky. It’s too late to cancel now- you had bought the dress and spent over half an hour looking for these shoes, not to mention all the time you otherwise spent on your appearance. The sound of your phone ringing tore your attention back to the present and you walked over to your dresser to see who was calling you.
Furrowing your eyebrows in confusion, you picked up your phone, “Hey Kunikida, what’s up?”
What man insists the girl he loves goes out with another man?
A stupid one- at least that’s what Ranpo had called him when Poe told him the full story.
Poe sighed as he slouched over his desk, elbows propped on the surface and chin resting on his clasped hands as he sat listening to the rain and brooding. Ranpo had taken his leave earlier that afternoon to get ready for the gala he was being dragged to, and Poe had yet to move from his seat at his desk.
The desk is currently covered with letter upon letter written for none other than you- who he had practically shoved into the arms of another. He sighs as he remembers his stupidity from the day before. Of course the thought had crossed his mind that you had been there to ask him to accompany you to the gala, though the rational part of him prefers to label this thought as a hopeful delusion rather than a reasonable conclusion.
You could have any guy you wanted- so in what universe would you be crazy enough to choose him?
He hummed as Karl rubbed against his foot, smiling as the cozy little racoon nudged his leg with his head before jumping up to sit on his desk. Poe sat back in his chair and watched the raccoon shuffle about on the wooden surface before he paused, picked up one of the letters, and jumped off his desk and ran out of his office.
Usually when this happened Poe would scramble to catch the mischievous animal and retrieve the letter before any permanent damage could occur, i.e Karl giving it to you.
But what did that matter anymore? If he had a chance with you he had long since thrown it away, and with the gala beginning in less than an hour he highly doubted he’d see you before then anyway, so there really wasn’t any harm in Karl stealing the love letter.
The little rascal was probably just going to hide it or leave it somewhere for Ranpo to find and ridicule anyway.
*Ding* *Ding* *Ding*
‘The doorbell..? Surely it can’t be Ranpo- unless he got lost..oh dear’
Sighing, Poe stood from his desk and made his way out of his office and to the front door.
Poe didn’t get many visitors- actually it was safer to say he got none besides you and Ranpo, so to have his doorbell rung at nearly 7 pm on a friday evening was nothing short of strange.
Unlocking the door he left the chain connected and slowly pulled open the heavy door, “Hello- Y/n?!”
You smiled as you laughed, arms crossed tightly over your chest as you tried not to shiver.
“Hey Poe..mind if I come in?”
Nodding he gently shut the door and made quick work of the chain before yanking the door back open and quickly ushering you inside.
“What on earth are you doing out in this weather? And where is your coat?!”
Without hesitation he shrugged off his cape and gently draped it around your shoulders. After he was sure it wouldn’t fall off he gently placed his hand behind you and guided you towards his living room, where he had thankfully started a fire in the fireplace that afternoon.
“Last minute work issue I’m afraid, I’m not bothering you am I?”
Poe huffed as he continued to guide you down the dimmed hallways, frowning at your now damp hair and clothes, “Of course not, you know quite well you’re never a bother to me.”
You felt your cold cheeks heat up for just a moment before memories of yesterday's defeat resurfaced in your brain, effectively making those feelings sink back down to the pit that had yet to leave your stomach.
Sitting you down, Poe paused before he took the seat next to you.
“So…what can I do for you Y/n?”
You sighed as you wrapped the cape tighter around your shoulders, “I got a call from Kunikida asking about a report I had done on the recent embezzlement case, and when I started looking for it, I realized I must’ve left it here yesterday..”
Your hands played with the hem of his cape as your eyes drifted over to the candy bowl sitting on his living room table, your favorite candy stocked full inside the crystal serving dish. A small smile began to surface and the dreadful feelings of adoration once again began to swell.
You figure he must have noticed your longing stare since he practically jumped in his seat before getting up and bringing the bowl closer to you.
You gave him a smile before chuckling as you grabbed a piece of the candy, “I’m surprised you have any candy left after Ranpo’s visit this afternoon.”
Poe sighed as he set the bowl back on the coffee table, “I try to keep the candy for him and the candy for you separate, though when it comes to Ranpo and his sweets, it seems my efforts are almost always in vain.”
You hummed in agreement at Ranpo’s usual antics. You opened your mouth to say something but found nothing- why were you even here?
Kunikida had made it clear on the phone this was something that could wait till the morning, yet somehow you found yourself grabbing your keys and hurrying out of your apartment towards Poe’s home. The document wasn’t confidential information, and the rain had certainly been a deterrent- not to mention the apparent rejection you had experienced the previous day.
And yet here you sat, partially drenched on his living room couch, sitting in silence because you didn’t know why you were here but couldn’t will yourself to leave.
“I-I’ll go look for that document- you said you left it in my office?”
You shook yourself out of your thoughts and nodded, thanking him for taking a look while you tried to think of another reason for your being here.
Shortly after he had left the room and your thoughts had once again begun to spiral- you were interrupted by a small chirping noise. Whipping your head towards the arch way you softened when you realized it was Karl, who was holding a letter in his mouth.
You beckoned the racoon over to you with a smile, “Wow, he found it quick huh! C’mere Karl! C’mere baby!”
The racoon happily pranced over to you and bounded onto your lap, settling down and practically buzzing at the attention he was receiving from you.
You paused your petting of Karl to open the letter he had placed in your hands, ‘hmm…that’s strange..it’s addressed to me but..’ you turned over the envelope before flipping it back around to double check the neatly written cursive of your name, ‘It doesn’t look like the document..’
Furrowing your brow you gently opened the letter- it hadn’t been sealed, just loosely tucked into itself.
Pulling out the lone piece of paper you felt your eyes widen as you realized it was a letter..in poe’s handwriting..addressed to you..
‘Oh my- is this…is this a-’ You felt your hands stiffen and your heartbeat begin to pick up speed.
You wanted nothing more than to read it, but at the same time you couldn’t think of anything worse than reading it. Taking a deep breath you stilled yourself before unfolding the neatly folded stationery and began to read.
“To my dearest Y/n, I apologize I have not said anything sooner, and I loathe myself for being such a coward I could never dream of being capable of telling you of the feelings I hold for you. I hadn’t meant to fall in love with you, but the more time I spent by your side and the more I learned of your thoughts and your goals the more my heart yearned for you to be mine. Of course I know there’s no chance of this dream of mine ever coming true, if there was I would put the proper postage on this envelope and stop shoving these letters into a drawer in my desk..”
You sucked in a quick breath in an attempt to stop the tears from forming in your waterline. Your eyes scanned the page, then scanned it again as your brain still struggled to fully comprehend the words you were reading. ‘These letters..? There’s more?’
A pained gasp pulls you out of your focus and directs your focus to the now petrified man standing opposite of where you sat, slightly crumpled report in hand as he stood before you his shoulders stiff and hands obviously shaking.
“I-I uhm…I can explain..”
His quiet voice filtered off into a whisper, and a tidal wave of fear and sadness washed over your being as you watched the fear of rejection consume him. Was he really so oblivious he had managed to miss all of your hints? Did he really not know how much he meant to you- how much you loved him??
He sucked in a quick breath before lowering his head and his voice, “I’m sorry.”
Before you could react he turned on his heel and rushed out of the room, long legs carrying him much too fast for your liking as your brain struggled to comprehend what all had just transpired.
“To my dearest Y/n…”
“...feelings I hold for you…”
“...hadn’t meant to fall in love with you…”
“...my heart yearned for you to be mine.”
“...he does love me..” You blinked before your body was thrown into overdrive as you set down the letter and jumped from the couch, beginning your sprint down the hall towards his office.
Panting you groaned as you opened his office door- only to find it empty. Turning around you briskly walked down the corridor towards the slightly open door. Was he really that scared of your apparent rejection..? Wait- hadn’t HE been the one to reject you just yesterday?!
Huffing you took in a deep breath before lowering your head and beginning your light jog into the near freezing rain. You know he had closed the door when he let you in, so it being left open meant he had to be out here somewhere- but where?!
You put the hand that wasn’t holding the cape above your eyes like a visor as you desperately scanned the property, eyes jumping from place to place as they searched for his white blazer and shaggy brown hair.
‘Where is he?! I have to find him- he needs to know i’d never reject him in a million years..he needs to hear how much he means to me…he needs to know someone loves him more than he could ever imagine..’ You felt your heart rate pick up speed as tears began to form behind your eyes.
“...I could never dream of being capable of telling you…”
“...I know there’s no chance of this dream of mine ever coming true…”
You felt a single tear slip past your lash line as you stopped at the entrance to the garden.
Scanning the area you let out a breath when you finally spotted him- leaning against a tree as he appeared to be catching his breath.
You tried the gate- it was locked.
Had he locked it behind him?!
“Poe!” You watched him jump at your calling of his name, “Will you open the gate?! I really need to talk to you!”
He froze up before violently shaking his head, “Y/n, I would rather appreciate it if you could save your rejection for another day- today has been quite emotionally taxing and I would like to have the weekend-” You groaned before muttering under your breath before looking up to meet his gaze.
“Edgar!”
His rambling ceased at the use of his first name..when had been the last time someone had called him by it?
You laughed as you wiped the water that had begun to pour down your face as the storm intensified its downpour, “I’m not going to reject you!”
“What?! I can’t hear you!”
“I said- oh for goodness sake will you open the damn gate?!”
Cringing at your tone, he sulked away from the tree he had sought refuge under before jogging towards the gate of the enclosed garden.
Fishing into his pocket his hand trembled as he unlocked the gate, frown deepening as he braced himself for the oncoming humiliation and heartbreak and- *oof*
He felt the wind almost get knocked out of him as your damp (but slightly less so than his) body crashed into him. His eyes shot wide open as your arms locked around his waist and your head tucked close into him. He almost panicked as he struggled with deciding what he was supposed to do with his arms before gently wrapping them around your shoulders.
“...it’s alright…you can be honest..you won’t hurt my feelings-”
“Why are you so sure I’ll reject you?”
He looked into your eyes expecting to find anger, irritation, annoyance.
People had always been quick to judge him for his interests, for his reserved personality, for his quiet tone..it seemed as if nothing he ever did was enough, as if no matter how hard he worked or how ever many cases he solved it would never be enough-
He would never be enough.
Yet here he was- having just had his feelings for the woman he loved ripped from his chest and handed to her, yet she wasn’t sneering or looking down on him. She wasn’t ridiculing him for the words he had written on the page nor were her eyes full of sorrow or regret as if she was about to turn down her long time friend. Her eyes were gentle as her hands held firm around his waist and water dripped down her beautiful face and wetted her lovely hair.
You smiled before reaching up to cradle his jaw as you softly directed his gaze to meet yours.
“Edgar,” You felt your heart burn at the blush that began creeping onto the apples of his cheeks.
You took a deep breath before removing your other hand from his waist to mirror your hand on his jaw, now softly holding his face your thumbs softly rubbed over his jaw as his hands softly but firmly held your waist.
“...I liked your letter..no- I really liked it,”
You could see his lips pulled tight into a frown as he swallowed thickly. You could tell it was going to take some convincing before he truly believed you- so be it, you loved him more than you could have ever imagined loving anyone and at this current moment the only thing you wanted was for him to know just how much you cared for him.
“What I’m trying to say is- I loved your letter…but I don’t love it nearly as much as I do its author.”
You watched as his eyes widened before they closed as he let out the breath he had been holding, a soft smile and look of content in his eyes as his striking lavender gaze met- and held, yours.
“I’m…very happy to hear that..you had me worried..”
You huffed a laugh, “I had you worried? You darted into the pouring rain in the middle of a thunderstorm!”
He cringed before the redness on his cheeks deepend as his hands gripped your waist, “Hey- don’t try and pin this on me! Who opens a letter that isn’t properly addressed to them?!”
You rolled your eyes, “It had my name on it..also…what did you mean by ‘letters’..are there more-”
“That’s hardly important right now- what about your date?”
You shook your head, “It was never a date- Dazai got rejected by the waitress and wanted to be sure he’d have someone to be his designated driver, I said yes because I thought you had turned me down.”
Poe paused, “...oh..and the gala? Ranpo told me it started at 7 and it’s less than a quarter till..”
You sighed as your hands began to comb through his wet hair, “I hadn’t really wanted to go in the first place, I was already looking for excuses when Kunikida called me.”
He nodded before clearing his throat.
“Well…if you’re not busy..”
You could tell he was trying hard to maintain his composure as his eyes locked onto a random object far off and his hands began to fiddle with the side seams of your gown.
“..would you care to join me for dinner?”
Smiling, you grabbed one of his hands while the other gently turned his face so you could give him a sweet kiss on his cheek.
“I’d love that…maybe after you can read me some of those letters-” “Absolutely not! Now then…let’s go get dried off before we get sick.”
*across the city at the gala..*
“Where is Y/n? She’s going to be late and make the whole agency look bad-” “Kunikidaaaa relax! She’s not late,”
Kunikida sighed as he adjusted his glasses before returning to writing the schedule for the night into his notebook.
“Very well then- as long as she’s-”
“She’s just not coming at all!” *snap*
The rest of the agency members watched as Kunikida strangled the chuckling Dazai, berating him for misleading him and causing him to make an error in his scheduling.
“Relax, she’s doing something much more important.”
Kunikida paused in his throttling of the irritating man before turning his attention towards Ranpo- who had paused his snacking to give his two cents about the situation.
“More important than representing our agency? And just what might that be?” Ranpo smiled before hopping down from his seat on top of the table and sauntering back over to the refreshments table.
“Ensuring a friend of mine is happy enough to keep stocking his office with sweets!”
Big thanks to my gorgeous genius beta reader qui😩💕💕 @i-just-like-goats

More on Sigma since yall ate up the last post tysm guys (*´꒳`*)
Anyways as I was saying Sigma has done some shit that proves he’s not a UwU baby and here I’ll explain to you more.
Sigma, unlike the rest of the DOA doesn’t want to just jump to violence, that’s not his thing since he knows his ability really isn’t meant for combat. Though he will still do it as seen multiple times. It also never once says he regret hurting/killing multiple innocent civilians. “Oh but Dazai said he didn’t see Sigma as a terrorist at all 🥺🥺 therefore-“ nope. Shut up 😍. Compared to Gogol and Fyodor, Sigma is not a terrorist. He hasn’t done nearly as much as they have, but he still is. Now I’d like to bring attention to the fact that the casino is actually Sigma’s REWARD for the use of his skill. Therefore, due to his part being over in the plan as Dazai said, he had no reason to fight on the frontlines. Yet he still did it to protect the casino, which was being used for terrorism and stuff. Hmmmm…. If he was an UwU innocent baby why would he do this? It’s because he’s not please shut up I’m actually losing in from people acting like that. Just note this past section is only from the first few pages of the 18th novel. We’re no where near close to being done!! Remember when The hunting dogs asked him to shut down that casino? Here is his reaction to that:
Tumblr media
I personally don’t think this is how any UwU baby would act… idk just my thoughts. He literally yelled at them, didn’t even try to politely explain why he wouldn’t do that he just told them to fuck off. Now we have Tachihara and Teruko walking along just doing their job (stop hating Teruko for doing her job it makes me so mad) and just getting stabbed by a random civilian. Here we see Sigma, literally making stuff up as he’s using people as literal weapons whilst knowing damn well you’re not supposed to do that. He literally uses the fact that as police Teruko and Tachihara can’t hurt them as a way of ENCOURAGING people to harm literal government figures. He had no hesitation to do that to people, unlike when he hesitated to use the plane on the casino, showing that at this point he is valuing a CASINO over HUMAN LIVES (B-but the casino is his home 🥺, ok and? Would you manipulate innocent people into literal weapons to protect your house? I don’t think so) It’s important to note that this is the only thing Sigma really owns, so he is defending it in a state of panic. It still gives him no right to do such things though. No I’m not trying to make Sigma sound like a bad person he’s my favorite bad character and it physically hurts to see all the mischaracterization I cry myself to sleep bc ppl r like this. As Fyodor said: “You won’t find a scarier thing in the world than a common man who is desperate” and we know that bc sigma said “If it’s for the casino I’ll do anything” here’s a little reminder:
Tumblr media
Now yeah he was having a little breakdown about it, like who wouldn’t. Can someone not show emotion without being called UwU soft? Seriously? If you were in that situation I bet you’d want to spring outta that room crying too. And yet here we are, he’s still using on and you know how? He’s shooting at Teruko with big ass guns. I don’t think owning those is legal in the slightest.
Tumblr media
(Pardon the fact its in Russian I got this off of Pinterest)
This is not legal. Firing these is not legal. And here is the most important part. The sonic gun and this is gonna be in bold bc it’s one of my leading points He showed no hesitation to kill Teruko in one of the most painful ways for a hunting dog to be killed. He forced her to puncture her eardrums as a last result of survival, as he says “This is all apart of the plan” showing that he planed ahead of time to try and kill a hunting dog. This is not something someone who is innocent would do in the slightest. He is well prepared to kill someone without regret. He decided to save a casino instead of his self, and attempted to take Teruko down with him.
And then we get to the part when he gets saved by Atsushi. He says he didn’t mean to stab the chief. Ok fine he didn’t mean to do that, but he still did it even if he regretted it. Can people not show regret for their actions? Goddamn ok. Also the way he spoke to Gogol- that’s not innocent at all he was downright hating on him. “I hate dealing with this decay member the most” bro even was like: Why didn’t you die man. In no way in his speech does he act soft at all I can’t see how you people got that. Maybe it was from his confused reaction? Or something. And just know this it only the 18th novel I’ve covered so far. I’ll do more in a later part :3 but anyways thanks for reading this I hope both sides of ur pillow are cold and I hope this helped you understand sigma better!!

What if Sigma is The Book?
(Spoilers up until chapter 103 of the manga)
Alright, so I’ve been mulling over this idea since freaking March and I figured I’d finally share it.
I have an alternate idea of Sigma’s origins than what we have been told from Fyodor in the manga, and though it may sound a bit odd, I believe that this would actually make a lot of sense.
This post includes why I believe Sigma may be the actual Book itself that has been transformed into a human.
Why I Think Sigma is The Book
1. Memories
We know Sigma has no memories of his life prior to when he was ‘born’ three years ago. While the explanation that ‘of course he would have no memories, he is a made up person someone wrote into The Book’, does make complete sense, it could also be plausible that the real reason Sigma has no memories, is because The Book (him, before being transformed into a person) was mostly, if not completely blank.
Metaphors about a person’s life being their ‘story’ are made all of the time. Every new experience and thought a person acquires throughout their life is written down chronologically and over time, forms the story of their life.
For Sigma, each of those empty pages in The Book become an emptiness inside of him. A place where memories and experiences should be, but aren’t. He’s a completed book with no content. An adult with no memories.
Dazai actually furthers this ‘storybook’ metaphor during his conversation with Fyodor in volume 18.
“It’s like, he’s a book that starts in the middle.”
(Dazai speaking about Sigma in the official english translation of volume 18)
2. Being Used
Sigma and The Book share a parallel experience of being used by others to further their personal agendas.
Throughout his entire three years of consciousness, Sigma was manipulated by everyone he ever encountered, which is something he is aware of, as he states in this manga panel:
Tumblr media
Likewise, The Book is desired for the exact same reasons, to be used by others for their benefit. So far in the story, we have seen multiple people fighting over The Book, as if they have some sort of right to it. As if The Book and the power it holds is up for grabs on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. People feel entitled to it. And the only thing stopping them is the others who also want The Book.
Sigma is treated in a strikingly similar way to this. He’s treated as an afterthought. As just a vessel his ability can be utilized through at the hands of others. His slavers thought so, and it seems that at least in Sigma’s eyes, Fyodor, Nikolai, and Dazai think of him this way as well.
Even right now, it feels as though Dazai and Fyodor are fighting over Sigma, just like they are fighting over The Book.
Because of this parallel in the narrative, I personally would find it rather fitting if Sigma is actually just The Book transformed into a human, rather than a product of it.
3. Ability
Sigma’s ability allows him to receive the information he most wants to know from his target, and in exchange, give the information his target most wants to know.
This ability is incredibly odd in its nature, as it seems fairly disadvantaged to its user. Few other ability users have such a high drawback to their abilities,  abilities typically seem to solely benefit their user.
I also find it quite interesting that the nature of Sigma’s ability works very similarly to how The Book itself operates. This idea of an ‘equal exchange’ where both The Book, and the person who writes in it, need to put in effort in order for reality to change.
During A Sunday Tragedy, the DoA had to use their own means to get the ADA to the building where the hostages were being held. Only then did The Page come into effect, switching the ADA with the terrorists under the white hoods, and altering their memories. It would have been much easier if the magic book teleported the ADA where the DoA needed them, but that’s not how The Book works. An effort made by the person who writes in The Book is one of the conditions that needs to be met in order for The Book to work.
So, this ability of information exchange makes perfect sense if Sigma is the human-form of The book itself. As a human being, Sigma is bound by the laws of nature and physics. Unlike The Book, which has the power to conjure floating casinos from nothing, Sigma in his human-form can only offer what he already has at hand (that being any knowledge he has learned).
4. Volume 18 Manga Cover
Tumblr media
The manga cover of volume 18 features Sigma front and centre, one hand on the opened pages of what is most likely ‘The Book’ and the other hand around his right eye.
To me, it almost feels like the hand around his eye is symbolizing that Sigma is the ‘eyes’ of The Book. That he is the link between The Book and the outside world.
Also, the way his hand is placed over the open pages could possibly be read as a protective gesture. Like how one would cover their vital points, or wounds, to protect themselves from harm.
If Sigma is The Book in human form, then this image could be alluding to that. Sigma as a human is able to interact with the world, he can see, hear, and think. The presence of The Book could represent his soul, his heart, and brain. It’s his core he needs to protect.
Atsushi and Sigma
So far, Atsushi has been sought after because he is supposedly the guide to The Book’s location. This ties Atsushi and The Book in a thematic sense.
Atsushi is the main character, and as Sigma seems to be quite important in this arc, so it would make sense to tie his story to the main character.
We already had an interaction between the two of them, where Atsushi was trying to save Sigma from falling off of the Sky Casino. And their brief interaction happens to be one of, if not, the only positive interaction Sigma has ever had with another person, where he had not felt as though he was being manipulated. Yes, Atsushi wanted Sigma to tell him where the page was, but he was very open and honest about that being his goal, he wasn’t trying to trick Sigma into helping him like others have.
If Atsushi and Sigma are going to be brought back together, then I think a reveal that Sigma is actually The Book itself would make a lot of sense. It would verify that whole idea that for some reason, Atsushi’s tiger is perfect for locating The Book. And since both Sigma and The Book are sought after and exploited for their power, having Atsushi stand up for/protect Sigma from this abuse while simultaneously offering him a sense of belonging would help tie up both Sigma’s character arc and the hunt for The Book all at once.
Atsushi feels for Sigma because he sees a bit of himself reflected in him, and since The Book is so important in this series, personifying it through Sigma would be perfect, as it would then extend Atsushi’s sympathies for Sigma to The Book as well.
Right now, Atsushi really doesn’t care about The Book at all. All he wants is to be left alone. He’s only caught up in this whole mess with The Book because people who want it think he can help them get it. He’s an unwilling participant in this whole exchange.
The Book is of interest to Atsushi only because the DoA wants to use it to destroy the world. But Atsushi has no connection to The Book itself past this. He’ll work to keep it away from those who want to use it to protect the world he lives in from changing, but that’s all.
So personally, I think having a reveal that Sigma is The Book would be really cool for Atsushi’s character. He can choose to protect The Book because of his personal connection to Sigma and a desire to protect Sigma from harm and abuse.
-------
Alright, that’s all I’ve got. Well… Not technically… I’ve been trying to write out this idea for literal months now but for some reason my brain just doesn’t want to?? I’ve cut around 8-9k words from this. I think the reason I’ve struggled so much with this post is because most of the points I make could easily also be supportive of Sigma being born from The Book like cannon suggests. So by supporting the idea that Sigma is The Book, I am also simultaneously providing support that could be interpreted as Sigma being born from The Book.
So I’ve tried to make this post as bare bones as possible, and it’s still a bit iffy. But hey, it’s just a fun idea I thought would make a cool reveal if it turned out to be true.
Anyways as always, please feel free to share your thoughts or ask questions about this theory or any others!

ᴅᴏ ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴꜱ ʜᴀᴜɴᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴅᴀʀʟɪɴɢ? ᴄʜ.1
Hi guys here is the first chapter, of my soukoku fic where Chuuya goes back in time to stop Dazai from leaving the Port Mafia. This is not going to be accurate to canon timeline, since this is my own fic it will follow whatever crazy plot/ timeline I create lol. I will be doing my best to keep the characters not OOC, however if there are some OOC moments sorry! Without further ado enjoy!!! Let me know what you think! ~Lighting 24680
It was a dark night on the streets of Yokohama. Fog covering the stillness of the water under that fateful bridge where a certain bandaged soul had found a men-tee of who with that encounter had found a family and a home. This bandaged soul of course has a name, a name both feared and respected even in the darkest parts of the city where only the dangerous and gifted go. That name is Dazai Osamu, and for Dazai's men-tee Atsushi and co-worker Ranpo it was a name invoked to aggravate the dark and dangerous such as a certain Port Mafia executive and the Port Mafias "dog". Of course for a person as calculating and broken as Dazai he was given a title to fit after all as the former youngest executive of the Port Mafia he didn't make it with nothing to show for it. The Demon Prodigy didn't make it there without memories that haunt even him.
Only one person had ever come close to understanding the complicated and hidden mystery of the person behind the mask of the Demon Prodigy. Of understanding Osamu. That title was a facade hated by it's owner as much as it's owner hates himself. For all his faked exuberance and mischievousness with a smile perfectly crafted to never slip, Dazai is disturbingly emotionless with an intelligence that had and will save him and the agency from destruction countless times. He's emotionless in the way that a mirror in a dark room will always show you a reflection but it will be shrouded in shadow. Until with no warning the door to the room is opened and cracks of light shine on the mirror and suddenly your eyes that were dull and blank now have light in them and for a moment you can see into the mirror before the door is slammed shut again.
There was only two people who had been able to open that door before and only one remaining who still can. This person as you can imagine is special to Dazai, not that he'd ever willingly admit to his rival being able to see him in a way only one other person has, not that he'd ever admit to caring for the Port Mafia executive he'd once called his partner. No he'd never admit to caring for Nakahara Chuuya...at least not by saying it outright.
Currently said executive is speeding along the roads in a red glow telling of his ability "𝕱𝖔𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖙𝖆𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖊𝖉 𝖘𝖔𝖗𝖗𝖔𝖜" a set look laid upon his face as he drove on his beloved motorcycle to the looming tower of the Port Mafia headquarters where he had been summoned from a mission by his boss, the bastard leader of the Port Mafia Mori Ougai. As Chuuya slid off his motorcycle and sped through the doors and into the elevator, blood left over from his previous mission slowly dripping down his coat he wondered what his boss had called him for he'd asked well not really it was more of a demand than anything to come meet with him immediately. Chuuya's face went hard with wondering what was so horrible that his boss had demanded him to immediately meet him.
As the elevator dinged and opened letting him onto the floor where his boss' door faced him. As Chuuya opened the door he found his boss sitting at his desk awaiting him. Before Chuuya could sit down or ask Mori what was happening and what he needed to do three words left Mori's mouth that left Chuuya stiff and shocked still, dread and irritation filling him. "It's about Dazai".

Bsd Quick Analysis: No Longer Human
Spoilers: light novels and movie
---
Spark notes version: Dazai does not need to be in direct contact with the target, but it's still very complicated.
The most important aspect of Dazai's ability we have seen exhibited so far is touch. In any case in which Dazai has nullified another character's ability he is in contact with the user or the ability itself.
Tumblr media
Scenes such as this really make one question how real abilities truly are. Where did all the force go when the abilities dissipate? Perhaps since the fact it was generated by the abilities themselves, 'No Longer Human' absorbed the force of them too.
Dazai explicitly states, in his and Chuuya's fight with Lovecraft, that his ability is absolute and without exceptions. I believe in the dub he even goes on to say that no ability can affect him. Throughout the series any ability that he nullifies, he's had either contact with the user or contact with the ability's physical form. Various forms of contact, but more or less a direct touch. We see this in his fight with Randou in which the subspace walls cannot be reached by him, so he is unable to nullify it. (As to my limited knowledge of the light novels, this scene plays out a bit differently and may be the pulled thread in my tapestry of a theory/analysis.) Or how when Q's power was activated Dazai needed to touch Q or the doll to disable it and touching an affected individual wouldn't disable it within said person.
Tumblr media
Randou avoids ever trying to activate his ability on Dazai. Even the old mafia boss zombie uses a long-range scythe and never touches Dazai.
This leaves us in a stump when it comes to the newest chapters and the time stopping ability. Why doesn't it work on him?
We have a good handful of abilities that are without physical corporeal forms. 'Flawless', 'All Men Created Equal', the time stopping one, to name a few. And whether these abilities hold effect on Dazai boils down to intent. 'Flawless' would work on Dazai (as long as he's not touching Oda) because 'Flawless' has no direction other than providing its user with 6 seconds of foresight.
But 'All Men Are Created Equal' and the time stopper ability have targets, Agency members and the whole of time respectively. Therefore, they would directly effect Dazai were he not immune, his ability only working because the ability has intent to affect him. I would assume that the abilities would be be nullified if Dazai touched the user.
We've seen Dazai nullify abilities through direct skin to skin touch and through clothing. Such a thing seems to be contradictory. Here is where the theory fully comes to light.
Tumblr media
Clothing does not stop 'No Longer Human', though there does always seem to be a slight delay when clothing is in the way. This is also seen when Dazai nullifies Steinbeck's ability.
'No Longer Human' spreads upon human contact, seeking out other abilities.
If Dazai touches a target with skin to skin touch the ability is automatically nullified, just as it is when he touches an ability itself. (He can nullify an ability by touching the target's hair with a fraction of a second delay.) Clothing acts a barrier (or path in some cases, such as in the light novel 15) between his ability and another person's, and therefore delays the nullification of an ability. It does not stop it. Multiple layers of clothing creates a longer delay, and clothing created from the skins of animals will block the nullification in full (such as leather gloves).
Dazai's ability is always active, it's not as passive as it is often made out to be. When he touches another person it is drawn to consume the other ability, to smother it.
Tumblr media
Dazai touches Chuuya's skin directly on their first meeting because he is aware if the delay in 'No Longer Human' and of Chuuya's prowess and quick reaction time. He does the same when nullifying Corruption. And obviously not because of gay thoughts.
I read somewhere that in 55 seconds, that it is explained that there is a 0.5 second window before his brain dies that Yosano’s ability 'Thou Shall Not Die' can heal him. In Dead Apple his ability is unaffected by the 'Dragon's Breath' mist (another formless ability with intended targets), and only once his heart rate begins dropping to critical levels was his ability able to separate from him and create the singularity. (In my quick analysis of the fog/mist, I talk about this a bit more, alongside the meaning of the ability) It's canon that abilities can continue to exist without or outside of the users, (a topic I'd love to address) and this is what happens in Dead Apple.
Tumblr media
I would argue that 'No Longer Human' is part of Fyodor's plan to rid the world of abilities (using the Book). And is the only reason Dazai is still alive. The events in Dead Apple are good enough proof of this.
Dazai has no control over his ability. He can't turn it off. He can't choose when to use it. In a prior Quick Analysis I made, I mentioned that the abilities are a reflection of the user (I have an excellent and thought out theory on this.) The outlier here would be Dazai. As is known, 'No Longer Human' is the antithesis of all abilities. If an ability is a reflection of a person's self, of their humanity, 'No Longer Human' takes that from them. 'No Longer Human' is a parasite to other abilities and Dazai is it's host.

"Did I seriously just get paired up with a ginger-haired brat..?"
Prompt: First meetings
Reader is non-binary
Meaning you can use any pronouns ya want ^^
________________________
Is this actually happening right now..? Right now, a man standing up at about 5'4 feet had just gotten a call from his boss whilst he was searching around his local grocery store. If the people close by said man would look closer they'd see that he seemed pretty pissed.. beyond pissed actually, and all of it was because of a certain boss of his. "You're being serious boss? You know I don't need no partner.. not after that bastard!-.. Mph.. tch, fine I am coming over. That partner of mine better not be annoying, alright.. I'll be there as soon as I can boss." As the ginger-haired male closed his phone, a scowl and hard glare could be seen directed at anyone and anything at the moment.. to the bystanders nearby since the male had a mask on they wouldn't exactly know what had caused the male such agitation that they seemed willing to kill anything in the vicinity. But oh if only they knew that this man.. was an executive in the most feared underground organization there is out there. The Port Mafia. --------------------------------------------
Executive: Chuuya Nakahara Ability: "For the Tainted Sorrow"
--------------------------------------------
Arriving back to HQ, Chuuya was already in what he usually wore when he went to work. And well, he's still aggravated about the entire 'new partner' thing his boss, Mori Ogai had set up. Since when did he need a partner..? He was perfectly capable on his own, granted he can't use his ability to its fullest extent without that bandaged bastard anymore.. no, NO!!! No thinking about that bastard Chuuya, he's in the past!! Anyways.. right now as he passed what seemed to be endless hallways and corridors he had finally arrived at his boss's office.. and before entering the male had become slightly curious about who this new partner of his.. though, it wasn't to the extent that it got rid of his irritation of having to have a new partner. But alas, once Mori has made a decision there was 'no one' stopping him from making it. So, he got himself together and knocked on the office's door gently before entering once given permission to do so.
--------------------------------------------
Before the ginger-headed fancy hat came... "Mori.. I don't need a partner. How many times do I have to tell you this already?!?!?" The guards nearby the port Mafia boss's office all froze at the loud screeching shout they heard coming from inside the room.. now they all saw who had entered though sadly they had a hood on so they could only see the figure of the person and some small details that were quickly shown before they disappeared as well.
'(h/c) hair, (e/c) eyes.. 5'4 to.. 5'5 it seemed with their shoes on, in height and.. to what gender they were..? They had no idea, though from the aura they gave off.. they were someone not to mess with alright' Now, back in the room. A (h/c) haired person had their hands on Mori's desk glaring though not really threateningly at the boss of the port mafia. "You know how I run and work, a lone wolf. I get work done faster! And I only have to worry about myself, and not worry over somebody else while we're in a life-or-death situation!" The black-haired male behind the desk merely smiled at them, hands clasped together as a.. somehow cheerful aura surrounded the male. "But (y/n)-chan!~ It's such a great opportunity!! Besides, the person you're going to be partnered up with will be a great match for not only you but your ability as well!" The person who Mori had just called (y/n)-chan backed away from the desk with a 'tch' their arms crossing over their chest as they sighed as the man.. their mentor's friend.
-------------------------------------------- Assassin: "Y/n L/n" also known as 'Lobo solitario y ágil' or just 'Lobo' in short. Ability: "Shifter of Dark Speed and Atoms"
-------------------------------------------- (Y/n) (L/n) is a well-known assassin and yet despite that fact no one has seen their face whilst they're on a mission, the only thing proving that they actually were there is the multiple bodies all bloodied and or cut up after a torture session for information. They were good, really, really! Good, though another thing to take note of when it comes to (y/n) is the fact they do not like working with people, ever. Even if they were one of the two last people on earth, they'd stay away from the other one and survive by themselves gladly. A reason for that may be because of the fact they slightly hate humans in general.. the dumb ones especially, or it may have something to do with their experience with humans. Either way, they don't like them end of story. Unfortunately now, they had to be partnered up with someone named.. uhh dang what's that guy's name again.. oh right, Chuuya Nakahara. Whoever they were Mori wouldn't stop boasting about how well their abilities would go together.. like.. how..? Their ability is mostly wolf related, meaning they can conjure up wolves ten times the size of regular ones and control them, become a wolf with them too... and what else.. right, the full form of their ability allows them to control shadows or.. atoms of people under shadows too. Whilst the Nakahara guy is gravity manipulation, the full form of being able to let 'Arahabaki' apparently some destruction God..? Loose and well have the amount of power to destroy an organization overnight.. yeah.. it was polar opposites in their opinion. Then again, the control of shadows and atoms does include but is not limited to.. lifting people up, swallowing them whole leaving them in darkness, controlling their atoms to disappear causing injuries, and.. well controlling people with their own shadow or when they're under a shadow using their atoms or the shadow itself Gravity manipulation is kinda similar to it.. some similar factors that are pretty close to it they suppose.. the atom and shadow thing seeing as it does help them control people in some.. gravity sense way..? Though it isn't gravity more so shadow and atom controlling them.. but.. You get what I mean!! Ehem, back to the situation. Right now, Mori and (Y/n) were just waiting in the office for the executive to arrive, seeing as Ogai decided to be nice enough to send the guy a warning call before they arrived back.. and with (Y/n)'s ability.. Their hearing and senses were all heightened so they heard the words Nakahara was saying, and honestly.. they slightly agreed with them- but at the same time was curious about who 'that bastard' is.. honestly they had a gut feeling seeing as they had some background info about the Port mafia props to his mentor. Natsume Soseki or what they always call him. Natsume-sensei. Fortunately Natsume-sensei's former..? Students/friends...? (Y/n) honestly has no idea but something like that since they seem to treat him like a mentor as well.. going back to the topic- the assassin has met the two. Mori Ogai and Fukuzawa Yukichi They've even had the chance to be trained by the two- then again the injuries and bruises that came along with the training were bad.. very bad. But it was all worth it, in the end, cause look at them now, one of the most well-known and best assassins out there. So they supposed the pain and suffering were slightly worth it-? Because the training also gave them the ability to defend themselves so that's also cool.. Alas, as much as they wanted to just stand in silence in the office of the port mafia boss in front of them. There was a knock.. and that had represented the fact that.. Their future 'partner' was there.. hurray.. --------------------------------------------
To say Chuuya was shocked, irritated and overall pissed at the entire 'new partner' thing would be such an understatement right now. As soon as they saw (Y/n) some kind of dislike immediately grew in him.. and no it wasn't because they were like 2 inches taller than him.. hah!! No way.. .... ...... ....... OKAY FINE MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OF THAT BUT COME ON!! MORI COULD'VE AT LEAST PICKED SOMEONE SHORTER THAN HIM-.... MAN!!! (Y/n) on the other hand, having done a quick look down at the male was.. slightly disappointed....? Not really, just.. you know the feeling where you were expecting something else but you get.. this- Hm, never mind they were disappointed. Not only that but they did not like that glare they were giving, and of course, being the badass and best assassin out there they weren't about to back down. So.. the pair had a glare off. .

Which lasted for at least a couple seconds before Mori decided to break the silence between the two.. "Well now.. go on, introduce yourselves to each other. You guys are going to be assigned partners from now on." (Y/n) heard the 'tch' sound coming from the midget, but they could honestly care less.. tell them again why they decided to work for both the Port mafia and the Agency..? Oh right.. cause sensei told him to look out for both of the organizations.. right.. Why..? They had no idea, and well honestly it was strange cause Natsume-sensei said a thing along the lines of: 'You have the power to connect them all, to protect them, don't let it go to waste young one' Wise right..? But what they were confused about was, what power they had, cause shadow and atom control being the most powerful thing his ability can do is definitely mediocre to other powers.. guess they'd have to find out huh.. Biting back at their pride they poked a hand out towards the shorter ginger and glanced at them as.. unthreateningly as they could. "I am (Y/n) pleasure to meet you.. partner." Blue eyes stared and glared back hard towards (e/c) eyes but.. nonetheless, he shook their hand. "Chuuya Nakahara, the pleasure is mine really.." The two gave each other's hands a threatening squeeze before letting go, facing Mori bored whilst the man smiled and hummed happily at the two's introductions. "Now now~ That's better, well (Y/n) that's all you're needed for this day. Besides, I heard you've got another place to be at tomorrow morning right? Another 'interview' correct?" Now, (Y/n) was at least glad Natsume-sensei had decided to leave out letters to the pair before his disappearance that they'll be joining both of the organizations at the right time. Cause they'd be dead meat if they did so without the two leaders of the organization knowing Natsume-sensei planned for them to go anyways. "Yeah yeah copy that, welp see ya around ginger-midget of a partner. See ya Mori-san." Turning around they started to walk towards the exit not before having to have a shadow stop a punch coming from a certain ginger. "WHAT DID YOU CALL ME YOU-?!?!? OI!! WHAT'S THIS!!??" Staring at them.. dumbfounded, they pushed the executive away and continued their walk to exit the office. "My ability, honestly though.. why did I have to get paired up with a ginger-haired brat?" Before Chuuya could bite back another remark about the name, (Y/n) had already exited. .

. "WHY THAT BASTARD!!! I'LL GET THEM BACK FOR THAT!!" -------------------------------- The following day..
'FUCK!!! I AM LATE I AM LATE I AM LATE- AHHH!!!!! WAIT CRAP- AM I LATE..?!'
A (h/c) haired person stared down at their watch that was securely strapped around their wrist.. which was a good thing cause with all their running around it would be a shame if it would break because its owner was reckless and it got off their wrist into the street.
Possibly getting run over by some car, as this person glanced at their watch over and over again.. they had come to the realization that they were indeed late for their work interview at the local Detective Agency.
Honestly, they weren't expecting the interview to be this damn early in the morning but well- it seemed the agency really liked being on schedule and getting things done as soon as fucking possible- Cause dang it, who interviews people at 7 in the morning..? Scratch that it was supposed to be 6 but they changed it last minute because of the interviewer's partner.. oh well at least they weren't going to be the only one 'too' late. But dang they didn't want to be later than they already were, so.. they ran, there weren't any people around so thankfully they were able to use their speed to their advantage-.. before of course accidentally bumping into somebody. Normally the assassin's senses would be on top-notch but not this early in the morning no, yeah no way.. they were a night person- I mean, you saw how their ability works. Look at the damn name! Backing away from the person they had bumped into, completely oblivious to the fact their speed was gone since they had touched someone with a nullifying ability. Glancing the male up and down before backing a few steps behind them to apologize quickly and get going as soon as possible. 'GET IT TOGETHER (Y/n) APOLOGIZE THEN GET OUT OF THERE YOU'LL BE LATE- WELL LATER THAN YOU ALREADY ARE NOW!' "Woah there-! What the.. oh? Well hello there, are you alright?" ______________________________________________________________ To be continued..?~ ----------- Note: so~ did you guys enjoy?~ ^^" Hehe, I know you did~ and well if you noticed anything then yes- maybe it's foreshadowing a fic.. maybe or maybe not.. who knows~ for now have these headcanons and go and think about what will happen next~ Farewell for now little birds~

An au whare tekken and bungou stray dogs take place in the same universe and the characters from both series interact
(Bungou stray dogs Season 4 spoilers for a certain characters backstory so scroll down and don't look at the post or just don't look at the post if you don't want spoilers)
The bsd characters would be pretty surprised to find that there are non ability users who are fully capable of fighting
Atsushi would understand jin with his struggle of trying to control the devil gene but be conflicted with him as well since he did cause wars and chaos in the world
Dazai would ask Lee if he knows any beautiful ladies he can commit suicide with, Lee was disturbed by that question at first then composes himself and answers
Lee: well yes I do know one beautiful lady you could commit suicide with
Dazai: really?:D
Lee: and her name is mental hospital
Dazai: you know what i'll pass 😑
Kunikida would talk with lars about how he wants to live up to his ideals and the justice it brings, lars would encourage him to keep fighting for his ideals that there are people he won't be able to save but he's gotta save who he can, Kunikida takes those words to heart
Lei wouldn't belive ranpo's claims of being the best detective in the world and assume he's just a little kid, ranpo would be annoyed by that tell him he's 26 and proves to him that he is a great detective by using ultra deduction guesses things and surprises lei as well as impress him
Xiaoyu and alisa would act like big sister figures to kyouka showing her some clothes shops ,eating crepes with her (with atsushi and lucy) and Xiaoyu would have kyouka pet panda whom kyouka would finds very soft
Yosano would dislike dragunov's nickname "the white angel of death" as that's what the soldier called her right before he died in her backstory other than that she's neutral on him
I honestly think chuuya and hwoarng have similar personalities but I think they would get at each other's nerves and hwoarng would challenge chuuya to a fight (which he losses every time cuz chuuya's very op)
Feng Wei would see kenji beating a bear that isn't Kuma (reason why kenji beated said bear was cuz the bear attacked him and kenji was trying to protect himself he even checked if the bear was ok after he beat it) be shocked of the farmer boy easily beating a bear with his own hands and since he like strong opponents he challenges kenji to a fight to test his strength which kenji is like "okie sure!"
Akutagawa and Miguel would get into a fight, akutagawa is surprised that a non ability user has stood up to him and thinks of knocking him out and bringing to mafia hq for questioning on how he was able to go toe to toe with an ability user (if your wondering why he doesn't think of killing him its cuz this is after season 3 akutagawa whare he promises atsushi not to kill anyone in 6 months) so he tied up Miguel and was about to knock him out only for Miguel thinking he would die since he was fighting a wanted killer said something quietly like " I guess I'll see you again soon sis" making akutagawa stop and ask him this
Akutagawa: do you have a little sister?
Miguel: yea what's it to ya?
Then akutagawa left Miguel by himself and leaved the place they were fighting in
King would see atsushi's tiger abilities when atsushi is dealing with some low life criminals and accidentally saw his scar they would talk asking him whare he got his scar from atsushi just remarks he got it in an orphanage whare the headmaster did that to him king would feel bad for him for what he's gone through and would also give him advice about some stuff, atsushi feels reassured and comfortable by those advices and also thinks his jaguar mask looks cool they talk for a while then they leave and king is more determined then ever to not only raise money for orphanages but also make sure the caretakers at the orphanage are not abusive bastards like with atsushi's caretakers at his own orphanage
