Verlaine and N are Fucking Liars and Chuuya is NOT a Clone
Tumblr media
So, it has come to my attention that there is a whole hoard of people who’ve read Storm Bringer or heard from people who’ve read it who think Chuuya is a clone. But he’s not.
For those who haven’t read Storm Bringer: Please do. I’ll do my best to contextualize stuff, but I’m not sure how it’ll turn out.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Exhibit A: The Photo of Chuuya as a Child
Tumblr media
At the beginning of the novel, the Flags give Chuuya a photo of him at age five (along with a bunch of other documents). It’s a gift so they can put Chuuya’s mind at rest about him being human.
Later, Verlaine says the photo is fake, but guys, Verlaine is obviously lying. He offers no evidence other than saying that the Flags are trying to manipulate Chuuya. He’s saying this because he wants Chuuya to leave the mafia and come with him. He believes that if Chuuya doesn’t think he’s human, he won’t have a reason to stay. I don’t think Verlaine actually knows whether or not Chuuya is human.
When they go to N’s laboratory, Chuuya recognizes N as the man standing next to him in the picture, which, in my opinion, actually proves that the picture is real. It just suggests that the government had their eyes on Chuuya for Project Arahabaki from the beginning.
Exhibit B: N and Chuuya’s Clone
Tumblr media
When Chuuya meets N in the lab, N takes him to a room with a glass tank. The glass isn’t black the liquid inside it is, and when the liquid is drained, it reveals… Chuuya. A second Chuuya.
N tells Chuuya that this is the original Chuuya Nakahara, and that Chuuya (OUR Chuuya) is his clone.
*Clears throat* this… is total bullshit.
Remember that N was specifically trying to break Chuuya emotionally and force Arahabaki out of him. It’s also why he tortured him.
He had guessed that Chuuya would be invested in whether or not he was a born-and-bred human. And he weaponized that against him.
N did nothing but lie the entire novel. He lied to Verlaine about knowing about The Secret of Gentle Forest, he lied about his own autonomy in conducting the experiments, he lied the second we met him by saying that he was Chuuya’s father. He had everything to gain by lying to Chuuya.
Exhibit C: Chuuya’s Parents
I rarely see this brought up, but we actually see Chuuya’s parents at the end of the novel.
Chuuya’s father is, you guessed it, some kind of doctor and is ex-military. Don’t forget that N was working for the Japanese government when he experimented on Chuuya. N was probably a colleague of Chuuya’s father and that’s why he’s in a photo with five-year-old Chuuya.
His parents think their son is dead.
Exhibit D: The Pencil Lead Scar
In the SB epilogue, it’s mentioned that Chuuya has a scar he doesn’t remember getting. One on the base of his right wrist.
In the backstory about his parents, it’s explained that when Chuuya’s parents’ son was in school, he got in a fight with another student. The other student stabbed him with a pencil, resulting in a scar on the base of his right wrist.
Mori explains to Chuuya that pencil lead will stay in the body for years. I can attest to this (I have a pencil scar on my foot from when I was 8).
This implies that Chuuya (OUR Chuuya) is not the clone, and really is this couple’s son. Asagiri took the time to point this detail out because he wanted us to have an answer to the question of Chuuya’s humanity.
In conclusion:
Now whether Chuuya is or is not a clone isn’t the point of his arc in Storm Bringer. It’s about him learning that it doesn’t matter if he’s a clone or not. I just don’t like that people are running around not actually understanding what they just read.

OK SO,
YOU KNOW HOW ARAHABAKI IS IN CHUUYA RIGHT? AND HOW HES UNLEASHED USING CORRUPTION, WHICH CHUUYA IS LARGELY UNCONCIOUS FOR?
OK. WHAT IF CHUUYA BREAKS FREE FROM THE VAMPIRE THING USING CORRUPTION? SINCE BAKI IS SO DESTRUCTIVE IT WOULD BE ABLE TO BREAK THROUGH BRAMS CURSE THING RIGHT????
SINCE HES TOO IMPORTANT AND A FLESHED OUT CHARACTER AND THERES SO POINT ASAGIRI WOULDNT KILL HIM RIGHT NOW. AND IN STORMBRINGER THEY TALK ABOUT CORRUPTION AS A TYPE OF “FACTORY RESET” FOR CHUUYA. WOULDNT THE VAMPIRE THING ALSO BE RESET BY PROXY? LIKE WHAT IF HE ACTIVATES CORRUPTION AS A REFLEX OR A SURVIVAL INSTINCT??
WE ALSO KNIW THAT HES A GOOD SWIMMER FROM STORMBRINGER WHERE IT STATES THAT ALBATROSS TAUGHT HIM TO SWIM.
SAME THING FOR AKUTAGAWA AS WELL. SINCE RASHOUMON CAN EAT THROUGH ABLILITIES AND WILL REFLEXIVELY PROTECT AKU AS SHOWN IN THE BEAST AU. ADDING ON TO THE FACT IS HOW RASHOUMON IS SHOWN TO BE ABKE TO ACT INDEPENDENTLY FROM HIM IN DEAD APPLE. WOULDNT IT BE ABLE TO EAT THROUGH THE VAMPIRE THING??? IS THE VAMPIRE THING ACTUALLY AN ABILITY??? Please send help :((((
Oh hi! I recognize you! (what is that pfp)
First off I read this three times over and can't stop laughing
Secondly! I will do my best to help!
I wholeheartedly believe that Chuuya is going to be a-ok. (Physically anyways. I'm unsure about emotionally but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it I guess.) And I do think he'll probably have to activate Corruption (Dazai's "it's unfortunate it had to come to this" is probably due to a mix of Chuuya being in very real danger without a cohesive backup plan and forcing his hand when ordinarily he gives him a choice). I'm unsure if Corruption would necessarily break the vampire infection though. The "reset" pertains to the command logs set by the researchers; I don't think it would necessarily reset ability effects. I could absolutely be wrong but either way, it doesn't exactly matter. The release of Arahabaki overpowers Chuuya's conscious will and it needs to be nullified by Dazai anyways, so regardless of whether Corruption actually disables the infection, it will have to go away when No Longer Human becomes active.
It will probably be a survival instinct activation, as you've said. Rimbaud's attempt at killing Chuuya and taking the raw power did not go so well, and there was also Atsushi's desperate transformation into the tiger when Shibusawa tried to kill him as a child in a last ditch effort to save his own life. And it can be activated without the command phrase "Oh grantors of dark disgrace..." (at least, in that one scene from DHC in Dead Apple). However... much as Chuuya definitely knows how to swim... the room is filling with heavy water, which may be denser and thus easier to float in, but also they will soon be unable to breathe. So. Yeah.
I'll tell you what does concern me most though. Chuuya has to activate Corruption to save himself, that seems pretty clear.
However, Chuuya already looks exhausted.
Tumblr media
Like. He's sweating. Panting even, a little, and his brow is furrowed. He's not doing anything that should have him this exhausted, especially since he never looks all that tired after a fight unless he's been severely injured... which to me implies he's trying to fight the vampire infection - has been fighting it this whole time, probably. If that's true, then Chuuya is already under a lot of mental and physical strain. Going into Corruption in that state, when normally he goes into it with close to full alertness and energy... he really might not last as long as usual in that state. I suspect Dazai will have a very narrow window of time to nullify the ability. (Again, I don't think he'll die but still.) With Dazai also on a time limit due to the poison... idk something there I'm too tired, sorry.
As for Rashoumon: I'm with you, op, it seems a little more alive to me than many other abilities (barring perhaps Byakko). I don't quite remember when it acted independently of Akutagawa in DA outside of when it was separate from him... if you could remind me I'd greatly appreciate it! I absolutely believe Rashoumon to be a deeply protective ability, for many of the reasons you've mentioned. It also is a good reflection of Akutagawa's own soul I believe: versatile, aggressive, protective, direct, always hungry (for necessities? for recognition? either works).
However, I believe it wouldn't be able to help Akutagawa in this case since the threat is internal, not external. We have no reason at this point to assume that the infection isn't an ability (in fact, I think it has to be given the lore that Bram gave us in his last appearance). In the end, I'm still hoping that Akutagawa manages to fight off the vampire infection through sheer force of stubborn will and spite. (I have an earlier post where I suspect his promise to Atsushi might help snap him out of it; it's here if you're curious.)
I hope that helped!

Ooooh I’m really curious about all your fic titles—what are “I said run” and “You break it, you buy it” about?? :0
"I Said Run"
"Run," he growled out, speaking as if his voice were coming through gravel.
"The ability only makes you attack those you care for, those that you love. I think I'll be fine, hatrack. You hate me, remember?" Was the quick and easy dismissal Dazai offered up, and how could he be so idiotic. Didn't he get it?
"I said run." Chuuya's chest was heaving, his breath coming too quickly, and the ground surrounding him was beginning to buckle and crack.
"No. I think I'll stay here, to keep you from hurting anyone you could actually care about."
"You don't get it do you?" It was asked through a pained throaty rumble.
And as Chuuya struggled to focus on anything other than the undeniable urge to kill and the whisper-screams of Arahabaki, he caught sight of Dazai's confused frown. The idiot really was clueless.
"I care about you, dammit. I love you, how oblivious can you be Mackerel!" Chuuya snarled as his body took up the red glow of Tainted, his hand slammed into the wall and it fractured beneath his hand.
Dazai's eyes were wide, pupils pinpricks of shock.
"Now run."
For all the control Chuuya had over his mind, body, and Tainted Sorrow, it was useless in the face of this mysterious ability.
Long story short, Chuuya has been hit with an ability. Now he is uncontrollably hunting down the person he cares most about.
---
"You Break It, You Buy It"
Dazai feels a trickling of what he assumes is pride and accomplishment, as he successfully breaks into Chuuya's apartment. Not that he ever doubted that he could break into the redheads home, but Chuuya had changed security in light of Dazai's recent break ins and it was nice to know he hadn't grown rusty. He now had to bribe two door men rather than just the one and Chuuya had added a second pass code in the elevator to reach his penthouse. All in all, Dazai's ex-partner knew him very well and it left said detective feeling marginally warmer.
Dazai stilled out of habit to check the number of occupants in the apartment. After a moment he decided it empty, due to the lack of noise and the absence of shoes, hat, and coat in the genkan. Sliding off his own shoes, purposely ignoring the shelf, and keeping his coat, Dazai limped his way further into the apartment.
He turned into the kitchen, avoiding the living room for now, finding a wine glass Chuuya had set out for later. An idea began to take shape in his mind. He hadn't really had a plan sides annoying Chuuya with his presence when deciding to come to the mafioso's apartment, but destroying the other's shit never failed to amuse the detective. Chuuya's violent reactions were always enough to distract Dazai from whatever was on his mind.
Chuuya finally stops putting up with Dazai's shit, after the other takes it a bit to far. Relationships take communication, and neither of the emotionally constipated idiots quite know how to do that with eachother.

Storm Bringer Spoilers (2)
I translated another part from the novel to give a bit more insights on Dazai’s scheme this time. This time from the perspective of Adam, the AI inspector. Even though it may sound contradictory to what Dazai told Verlaine before, I personally think that they were not all lies, which is kinda sad and terrifying at the same time.
Feel free to re-translate it if you want. Just note that I am not 100% confident with my translation and some of the meanings might be lost through bridge-translation.
[CODE;03]
....
A rain of bullets flew towards me. I opened the shock-resistant shield from my forearm. This shield is like an umbrella. It is coated by a superalloy that is resistant to heat and shock. It can ward off most small-scale mass attacks. It is a custom-made product that was designed to withstand the high energy of Arahabaki. All the full metal jacket bullet slid through the surface of the shield and landed behind me. Three shots didn’t slide but stopped when touching the surface, peeling off the alloy surface with their kinetic energy. But the damage was minor.
I leapt with my shield still raising. I stepped on the soldiers’ rifles and did a double leap. Upon landing at the wall behind them, I bounced back and hit them from the back. It was a light attack that can break some ribs, I knew it from the sensor. First one down. While I was still above the soldiers, I bent my leg like a sickle and swept the legs of another one, knocking him off the ground. When he fell down, I injected him with a dose of medicine from the needle on my finger. That made two.
However, while I was busy suppressing these two soldiers, the other one had more than enough time to raise their guns. Three of them were aiming at me. My hands were both on the floor and bearing my body weight, I couldn’t raise my shield. I did a high-speed search for a countermeasure. None of them would make it in time.
I ended up not needing a countermeasure.
The soldiers spasmed with the sound from an electric shock and dropped their guns. After a few seconds of agony, they lost their strength and collapsed.
I didn’t do anything.
Behind the soldiers, from the corridor on the other side of the door, I saw the savior who saved my day. That was someone I really didn’t expect.
“How boring.”, that person said as he lowered his Taser gun. “You use electric to knock down people, but all they do is to collapse. Boring.”
“You are... Port Mafia’s...”
Dazai Osamu.
The person who brought Chuuya-sama to the Port Mafia.
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Inspector. Where is Chuuya?”
The boy of the same age as Chuuya-sama asked me, as he threw off the Taser gun.
“Chuuya-sama is...”
“Well, based on the time, has he been caught? Or is it about time he was rescued?” Dazai-san walked over the unconscious soldiers and came towards me. “If that’s the case then it’s not fun at all. I couldn’t see Chuuya weeping when he was tortured.”
“Tortured? Chuuya-sama?”
So Chuuya-sama was captured and tortured? It’s possible. But how can this boy know all of that? Why is he here in the first place? If I remember correctly, Dazai-san is the nullification ability user, the trump card against Verlaine. And I am pretty sure we tried to contact him because of that but couldn’t get through at all. So why is he here, right now?
“You will ask me why I came. I will answer, “Because it is a part of the plan.”. You will ask me what the plan is. And I will answer, “Everything. From the beginning to the end, I have this whole Verlaine incident in the palm of my hand. And then you will ask what I mean by that.”
In order to understand what Dazai-san said, I analyzed the information with high priority by my processor. However, Dazai-san’s thinking was even faster than that. I had to give it my best just to catch up with him.
“I will then say, everything literally means everything. All Verlaine’s targets, including the detective and the researcher, were decided based on the information that I gave him. It means his assassination planning procedure is also my procedure. Now you will ask me, “Why did you do such a thing?””
That’s it. That’s exactly what I want to know. What Dazai-san said just now strongly suggested that he had joined hands with Verlaine. There is a high possibility that he was the one who pulled the strings behind the death of the detective, and Chuuya-sama’s current serious situation. In another word, betrayal. Depending on his response, it might become another battle here.
However, Dazai-san’s final answer was far beyond my expectation.
“To buy time, before Verlaine could get to his final target. His final target is Port Mafia’s Boss, Mori Ougai. Mori san was supposed to be the first in his list, but thanks to me handing him the list, he has been changed to the last one. Thanks to the time I have bought, I am almost done with a plan to reverse-assassinate him. But before that, I have one last thing to finish.”, Dazai-san said with a smile as he reached out his hand and helped me get up.
Then he stared into the middle of nowhere, and said with the eyes of a wizard who could see through everything, “Chuuya will kill N at this rate. Then he will cease to be human. But I want to see Chuuya suffering as a human. So I’m going to stop him.”
***
The alarm went off as if the disaster that will destroy the world has finally come. The emergency lights went red and the scene of the facility changed completely. It is like we were inside a monster’s stomach. The wireless feeds were released to all the general staff and the warnings were being called repeatedly on all lines.
Intruders in the Lab area. The internal information staff are to dispose of the prescribed materials and leave the premise immediately. The operation staff are to be ready for action with first-class equipment. This is not a drill. This is not a drill.
I continued my work, while removing the noisy warnings from my hearing options. We pushed the unconscious Shirase-san into the equipment storage room. I closed the door and applied the electric lock.
“I have changed the lock here into the time-varying encryption type. That way, Shirase-san will be safe for a while.”
“Thank you. Next is Chuuya.”, Dazai-san said so then walked away as if he didn’t care about Shirase-san at all.
“Please wait, Dazai-san.”, I called out to him. “About Chuuya-sama, you just said “as a human being”? Do you know if Chuuya-sama is a human or not?”
I somehow had a strange expectation that a person like him would know the truth. I didn’t have any reasons, but I felt that. It’s human’s arrogance to think that intuition and inspiration do not exist for us machines. If it’s something humans can do, then I can do it too.
“I don’t know.”, Dazai-san said simply. But his eyes slightly narrowed like he was having some deep thoughts. “Both N and Verlained said that Chuuya was not human. But I think there is more than that. Because I have read this notebook, this Rimbaud’s Memoir. To some extents, the incidents this time all started from this memoir.”, Dazai-san said, taking out an old leather-bound notebook from his pocket.
Rimbaud’s Memoir!
I quickly scanned the notebook that Dazai-san had. This might be the real thing. This might be. Rimbaud’s Memoir is a kind of journal that the dead spy Rimbaud kept in secret before his mission. It contains information related to the spy missions during the Great War, so even though there were rumors about it, there was no information that it has ever been found.
“Just what have you done to get your hand on that?”
“You can try to ask, but I will just tell you lies anyway. Because I am a liar.”
A mysterious smile appeared on Dazai-san’s face. I ran him through my lie detector sensors but there was no responses. His vital signs are almost the same as of a sleeping person. The output data is too normal for such a condition. This is not normal. Just who in the world is this boy?
“We do not really have time to hold a tea party and chat here. We have to find Chuuya first.”, Dazai-san scratched the back of his neck and said with a dim voice.
“How can we find him?”
“Finding Chuuya is always easy.”, Dazai-san smiled as if he already saw through everything. “We just look in the direction with the loudest noise.”

Summary for Code:03 is here! I hope you guys will enjoy (spoilers, not really!)
Recap: Murase-officer was killed by Verlaine, so Chuuya and Adam were going to find out why he had become Verlaine's target.
From the blue mobile phone acquired from Murase-officer's pocket, Adam believed that the phone was not the original but got replaced by someone, and hence Adam inferred that Verlaine was the one who did this in order to wiretap his call, and Adam was able to get the recording of the final call on Murase-officer's phone.
'It's me, brother,' that's the voice of Murase-officer.
'The gravity guy is here, just like what you said. Wait! There is one more person! Who is this? What's his relationship with Chuuya! Call me when you hear this!" and that's the end of the call.
This recording took place shortly after Verlaine invaded the police station.
'That's very interesting,' Adam was sure about something, 'With reference to my record, his brother was supposed to be dead already.'
Murase-officer's brother, was dead in April 14 years ago. He died in an accident while conducting an experiment. His name was not on the official record, nor there was any photograph of his appearance, so let's call him N for now.
'Officer-san's brother, participated in the research of Arahabaki?' Chuuya said.
The creator of Arahabaki...? Adam could not handle such surprise in his mind. The trio (Chuuya, Adam and Shirase) continue to deduce the hints they have. They supposed N was probably the only survivor as all scientists were dead during one explosion of the experiment. Now they know, Verlaine's next target was N because he was the only one left who knew the secrets behind Chuuya. Henceforth, they have to find N now.
'Hey, you...' Shirase looked at Adam with a terrified face as if seeing a ghost. Adam was confused, but the next second he realised, that was Adam himself talking.
'I am the one who needs your help,' Adam's mouth moved, 'Adversely, you need my help too. I am the one whom you called N.' The man who called N hacked into Adam and delivered this message.
'I can no longer speak to you in such a way, come here, I want to meet you. I will leave the address in this machine.'
'Hey, wait. Meet us? What do you know?' said Chuuya
'Everything, Chuuya. Everything about you.' that voice spoke as if a god with a very calm voice, 'I am looking forward to meet you,' and the connection was lost.
-
They have arrived at their destination. It was a huge and broad place underground, as big as a tennis court, and there were firewalls built  in the surrounding with guards guarding the front gate. Chuuya, Adam and Shirase were stopped by the guards and demanded to do a blood check before they could proceed for security purposes, but of course, Adam was spared from it.
After finishing the check, they finally saw N. That person that stood in front of them, was exactly the one who stood next to Chuuya in the picture that the Flags gave him.
'I am the director of the Arahabaki Project. The military named me as N because this is the initial of Nakahara.'
'I am your father.'
-
'What do you think ability is?' The group were in a corridor of the facility.
'We, researchers, frankly speaking, don't really know what ability is. How embarrassing,' N proceeded.
But there were few things that were confirmed. Other forms of life apart from humans, such as animals or plants, are not able to possess ability. Also, when the human dies, the ability that he has will together vanish from this world. Every ability has a maximum of output of power, and the military wanted to know so badly how we could break the limits. Yes, there is a way to break the limit, and that's called ability singularity. This is a phenomenon that occurred as a result of two or more contradicting abilities interfering with each other. Which means usually it requires at least two ability users to create such a phenomenon.
However, there is one type of ability user that is able to create an ability singularity on his own. They are able to do so because their ability itself consists of theoretical contradiction. The first person who discovered this was a German scientist, and he named this type of ability 'self-contradicting ability'. To be precise, this ability allows the user to amplify the output of their own ability. Since the user can continue amplifying the power of their own ability, it gives them an unlimited source of power, which breaks through the limit of ability. However, this user also needs to take the risk because once they are granted infinite power, the high density of the energy will create a distortion in space and collapse it into a gravity vortex, and can never go back.
There was an intense competition between Germany, France and Britain on investigating this subject. Since Japan was the ally of Germany, Japan also acquired various techniques and reports regarding this topic. Since most of the countries were running out of resources by the end of the war, they were eager to take theories into practice, and the most advanced country on this topic was France. They successfully weaponised ability singularity, and they found out that the most effective way to control it was heart, in other words, the human's soul. Yet with such huge energy, it was afraid that ordinary humans were not capable to manage it, but ironically, only humans are capable of possessing ability. Therefore, the French scientists came up with a solution, and that is to create a homunculus with a soul, and that’s how Paul Verlaine came. Years later, the Japanese government also obtained the related information and hence proceeded to conduct a similar experiment, which later what was known as the Arahabaki Project.
-
N wanted to show Chuuya something, but it was considered top secret. So he asked Adam and Shirase to wait while he and Chuuya would go somewhere else.
While going to another room, Chuuya told N that he recognised this place. However, N told him that it was just the No.2 Laboratory which had the same design as No.1 Laboratory, and it was destroyed during the Arahabaki Project. So what Chuuya remembered was actually the environment of the No.1 Lab. Meanwhile, Chuuya recalled some of his memories in this facility. He recalled that he had been staying in darkness for a long time. Yet, he heard 'Invaders!' 'Lock area 8 and 15!' one day. He used to be inside a cradle and locked from the outside world. But that day, someone broke the cradle and a hand touched Chuuya. That's Rimbaud's hand, and next to him was Verlaine.
'You are a miracle, Chuuya,' said N.
N showed something to Chuuya, and that's a cylinder which has a size similar to Chuuya. The container was transparent, and it had some blue and black liquid kept inside it so it was quite difficult to see through.
'Who is inside!' Chuuya yelled, but N didn't say a word.
N pressed a button via a remote in his pocket, and the liquid began to drain, and Chuuya was shocked to see what appeared in front of him.
What inside the cylinder, was Chuuya.
The Chuuya inside the container had his eyes closed, and quite thin. His leg was locked by two chains respectively that linked to the bottom of the cylinder.
'May I introduce, your original,' said N.
Chuuya's jaw dropped.
Tumblr media
Suddenly, the teen inside the cylinder was in pain, and could not breathe. He cough badly and almost had his organs cough out.
'Hey! Are you alright!' Chuuya yelled.
'No way he would be alright,' said N, 'he had his living-saving fetal aqueous solution drained after all.
Chuuya grabbed the controller from N and pressed all the buttons on it, but nothing happened. Shortly after, that teen died, and his body including his skin, flesh melted together into a blue-black liquid.
All of a sudden, Chuuya felt dizzy and fell down.
'I designed you, so I know you the best. No matter how strong you are, you are incompatible with poison,' said N. Chuuya realised that poison was injected during the blood check. He was furious and tried to punch N. Yet, a bullet hit Chuuya's forehead, and he lost his consciousness immediately.
-
On the other hand, likewise, Shirase also felt dizzy. Adam noticed Chuuya might be in trouble as well. After keeping Shirase in a safe placed, he proceed to search for Chuuya.
-
In a room of nothing, Chuuya's upper clothing was deprived, and he was bleeding. The most serious injury he had was on his chest. His hands were locked up by chains that connected to the ceiling, and electricity went through his body via this chain. Under the order of N, Chuuya was injected with midazolam, and continued being tortured.
N revealed that Chuuya was the only experimental product in the country that consisted of a safety measure - in order to activate his full ability, a spell was needed. Once Chuuya said the spell, his personality will be erased and overridden. Such that Chuuya would be free from pain and darkness. And the spell was-
'O grantors of dark disgrace, do not wake me again! I will endure my solitude, arms seemingly already useless,' N said the spells.
'O grantors of dark disgrace, do not wake me again...' Chuuya repeated after N as if an automatic robot. This was the result of the midazolam.
'Very well,' N smiled
'I will...WHO ARE YOU?' Chuuya yelled.
'Raise the power,' N ordered the assistant to give Chuuya another electric shock, and Chuuya screamed.
-
Chuuya was not in a stable state of mind. He saw different kinds of illusion. He saw Dazai, Piano Man, Albatross, Ice Man, Lippmann and Doc, and the members of sheep. He was blamed by such an illusion, and his value of existence was denied.
The last person who showed up was Verlaine.
'I will kill this researcher,' said Verlaine in Chuuya's illusion. He gave his hand out to Chuuya and said, 'come here,'
'Why...' said Chuuya
'Didn't I tell you when we first met? I am here to save you,' Verlaine replied, 'Go, my brother. Kill N and take your soul back from this crazy world.'
-
Adam was dealing with the soldiers that were attacking him. At once, a teenager showed up in front of Adam, and he's Dazai.
'Nice to meet you Mr Inspector,' Dazai greeted, and he continued, ' "Why are you here?" I believe that's what you wanna ask me. I will tell you. That's a stage of the plan. "What's the plan?" you may ask, and I will tell you, everything.'
Dazai explained that the documents that he gave to Verlaine was the information about Murase-officer, N, and everything else. The purpose behind this was to save time, because Verlaine's initial first target was Mori. Hence, by manipulating the information, Dazai can squeeze out extra time and assassinate Verlaine back.
'According to the plan, Chuuya will kill N, and will not be a human anymore. However  I want to see Chuuya as a human, so I am here to stop him,' said Dazai.
-
A fight broke out in the laboratory where Chuuya was staying, and other people were evacuated from the facility.
Chuuya had immense hatred towards N.
'W...wait! I can't help with it! It's all work! I never ever once wanted you to suffer on my own!' N cried and tried to escape from Chuuya.
'Don't listen to him Chuuya,' Verlaine showed up in the entrance.
Chuuya was holding a chain on his hand tightly, and threw it out with the speed of sound and stabbed the target: Verlaine's chest.
'W...what?'

'Didn't see that coming right, Verlaine. It's true that the researcher is harsh, but you killed Piano Man and the others after all,' Chuuya said, and the 'brothers' had a fight.
There was a mass explosion everywhere inside the room. The punches were able to create tiny suns and the gravity made the room collapse.
Amid the fight, N, who was injured nearby, yelled to Verlaine, 'If I died, you would never know your secret!'
' I am not joking, everything. Including the one you wanna know most - the Secret of the Gentle Forest,'
'How do you know this!' Verlaine shouted.
But there was no spare time for them, All of a sudden, a skeleton appeared. That's Chuuya's original, and that's what the body left after dying and melting in Chuuya's arm just now. It was connected with the tube and wearing a coat. The skeleton was under the control of N and launched attacks towards Chuuya, and he couldn't move
Shirase, who woke up and found Chuuya, surprisingly appeared and saved Chuuya by plugging out the tube from the skeleton. A while after, Adam and Dazai also found where Chuuya was. The battle was paused.
All of a sudden, the light in the room was turned off, but turned back on a few seconds afterwards. Yet, Verlaine and N were gone, and the ceilings of consecutive multiple floors above were gone as well.

Thoughts on Chuuya’s Character Song
I was going to do Atsushi’s next, but I figured I may as well do soukoku together. Also, this is really fucking hard with a hilariously limited understanding of Japanese and trying to cross reference poem translations with song lyrics, my god. Complaining now out of the way, this song is half as depressing as Dazai’s and twice as sexy, so buckle up, y’all. It’s a long one :p
No matter what kind of cliched game it is, I'll play until the end But I won't be satisfied with a scenario by a third-rate writer
Ah, an opening line that fits Chuuya to a tee. So, I figure he’s opening with the acknowledgement that many of the people he knows likes to treat him like a chess piece--namely, his boss and Dazai. He knows he’s just a player in the schemes of others, but he doesn’t particularly care about the fact that he’s being jerked around as long as it’s for some greater purpose. His tone seems to indicate that he resents this, at least a little, but his fiery dismissal says that it doesn’t matter to him in the end.
GOOD BYE, tainted clothes are no longer to be worn I simply wanted a way to kill time
Alright, multiple ways to interpret this bit. Goodbye in english, and a reference to the poem his ability is named after with “tainted”. The argument could be made he’s referring to Dazai, considering the title and references made in Dazai’s character song.
I’d actually argue he’s talking about the Sheep. It feels like he’s casting off his past with that organization, dismissing them with the words that they weren’t really important to him--just a way to kill time, even though we know that their betrayal cut him deeply. And it’s why he’s saying goodbye, and dismissing them as a part of his past. It’s an interesting parallel to the way Dazai talks about Chuuya himself in his own song, because the both of them have pasts that they’re trying to run from.
'In languor dreams of death' ... who was the one that said it?
That would be you, Chuuya. At least IRL Chuuya, in his very fancy poem “For the Tainted Sorrow”. But why this line?
I’ve puzzled it over for a while, but I don’t have a conclusion. Interesting that he opens with talking about death, though, considering how he brushes up against it almost every day by nature of his job.
The world is a bird cage, faded in colour Even if I lament, I can't get out of this prison
This part is also oddly reminiscent of Dazai’s song. Chuuya’s saying that he feels trapped, like a bird in a cage that no longer interests him at all, and that he can’t escape no matter how much he laments. Which is an interesting translation choice, considering his Sheep Song poem can also be translated as “Lament of the Lamb” (though the words themselves in Japanese differ, so I can’t call this an actual reference).
BUT NOW, DARKNESS MY SORROW I have not yet fallen apart So, as I laugh off this imposed inconvenience Let's overturn even the heavens and the earth (GRAVITY) Within the darkness, a shadow of a hat lightly dances
But Chuuya doesn’t care. So what if he’s trapped? So what if escape is impossible? He’s still alive, he’s still holding it together. So he brushes it off as something that doesn’t really impact him much. This song seems very much like a massive middle finger to the shitty cards he’s been dealt. Chuuya’s saying that despite it all, he’s still going to turn the world upside down.
Part of me thinks the reference to the hat is a Rimbaud reference, since he got the hat from Rimbaud and it originally belonged to Verlaine. I feel like this is Chuuya acknowledging how those two people have influenced him, which...we don’t know about yet, as his backstory is still mostly unexplored.
Even if I get tired of the night and tear off my shackles That eye who sees eye to eye with Kierkegaard is also here
This is Chuuya saying that if he gets tired of the Port Mafia (remember, the night is the PM’s domain) there’s still someone who will make sure he can’t leave. After some googling, I’ve realized Kierkegaard is a Danish poet. But who is Chuuya referencing, who sees eye to eye with Kierkegaard? I’m pretty sure it’s Mori, but the JSTOR article I made an account for is 45 pages long and I’m working my way through it slowly. I’ll get back to y’all on this bit, but for now, I’m 90% sure this is Mori.
WOW OH [The best view worth more than a ten-billion masterpiece...] Let's stop messing around already
Ah, Chuuya, always ready for a fight. And this is definitely a reference to Dazai. This is what he says when he sees Dazai for the first time in four years, coming down the stairs to see his old enemy/friend/partner chained to the wall. If you need a memory refresh, it’s the scene where Dazai says “✨CHUUYA!✨”
Why, of all people... is the KEY CASE in that person's hand? In the moment we clashed, the one in control is me I will manipulate even the weight of this cut-short life
Who is “that person”? I’d hazard a guess that it’s Dazai, considering the previous line. The first line is him lamenting that Dazai seems to always have the answers, always to hold the key. But the next part is Chuuya reasserting his control. It’s Chuuya, fiercely defiant to the end, flipping another middle finger to the guy who keeps coming into his life to turn it upside down. Even his own mortality doesn’t faze him in the least. To Chuuya, it’s another obstacle to overcome.
LONELY DARKNESS MY SORROW, once it is opened by the key I'd rather just fall than go back to being alone Staring at the destroyed cage of this self, (GRAVITY) Slowly, I sing, "Not bad at all."
Chuuya, I love you, but why so many goddamn metaphors? Let’s break this down.
Firstly, there’s a swap from “darkness my sorrow” to “lonely darkness my sorrow”. Ignoring the key part for now, we can look at the second line where he says he’d rather fall then be alone again. I think this is a part of his trauma from how he was alone, with Arahabaki/as Arahabaki, for so many years. Chuuya very deliberately surrounds himself with people--first the Sheep, then the PM. He hates to be alone. And it’s an interesting counterpoint to Dazai, who always feels alone regardless of who he’s with by sheer virtue of how isolated his brain makes him feel.
Secondly, the cage metaphor. So the cage from earlier also seems to double as a metaphor for Chuuya himself, which makes sense. He’s technically a vessel for Arahabaki, and so inner conflict has been a part of his identity from the beginning. So once someone (possibly Dazai, possibly Mori, possibly even Rimbaud if you want to focus on how Rimbaud freed Arahabaki) frees him, it’s like he destroys the things that are holding him back. And he’s fine with that.
I’ll address the themes of destruction and the repeated screaming of “GRAVITYYYYY” at the end.
Even though it feels like I might be trapped, there is no room for sentiments I'll push myself to the limit and dye everything jet-black
Again, this is Chuuya brushing away his limitations. He’s still going to fight in spite of it all. He’s very goal oriented, liking to take action more than sitting back and thinking about it.
The world is a bird cage, faded in colour Even if I lament, I can't get out of this prison BUT NOW, DARKNESS MY SORROW I have not yet fallen apart So, as I laugh off this imposed inconvenience Let's overturn even the heavens and the earth (GRAVITY) Within the darkness, a shadow of a hat lightly dances.
And then this bit is just a repeated part, nothing new here. So, a few concluding things.
Firstly, Chuuya and Dazai sing about each other very differently. Chuuya seems to be almost nostalgic about Dazai. But Dazai rejects him entirely in his own song, and it’s an interesting counterpoint.
Secondly, the repeated themes of destruction and fighting. It’s honestly all Chuuya’s ever known, and the thing he’s best at. At this point, it’s a part of his identity, so it makes sense that it’s in his song.
Third, and this part interests me the most. Chuuya’s ability is gravity manipulation, right? And gravity is an attractive force that draws objects to things with the greatest mass. I just feel it’s kind of fitting, that Chuuya--terribly scared of being alone--has a power that brings people towards him.
Just a thought.

Life is a series of moments.
Meeting you was arguably the best moment of Chuuya’s life. Being with you was probably the best decision he’s ever made. Every moment with you was fleeting, but precious.
Being a Port Mafia executive didn’t allow for a lot of free time, especially not for someone as formidable as Nakahara Chuuya. Most days he is worked to the bone, and he can’t seem to refuse orders no matter how much you nagged at him to take care of himself.
You never once made him feel bad about it though. No matter how many times he’s showed up late to meet you, or how many times he’s had to cancel dates. Even when he had to celebrate your birthday late because something urgent came up that Mori absolutely needed him to handle that night.
Chuuya always made up for it. Always surprising you with his sweetness, although you’ve never expected him to do anything for you. The mafia was very important to him, and you knew that. You accepted that, why would you have agreed to be with him otherwise? You understood very well that it meant busy schedules and danger, but you loved him more than you would ever allow yourself to be petty or scared of his enemies.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Life is a series of moments; some more fleeting than others.
Chuuya remembered all of them. Some were small yet important moments.
The first moment he saw you walk into the cafe. All he had wanted was to spend lunch alone, away from headquarters, away from all the headache. You were a soothe to his migraines, something he had not bargained for. Thank god the cafe was packed and he was the nearest to you; you wouldn’t have sat with him otherwise.
The first moment your hands brushed against each other on the first date; it was a simple movie date. The cliché hands brushing against each other on the armrest kind of thing. Where he would usually gag upon thinking of such things, when he replayed it in his head with you as the subject, he’d always smile at the memory.
The first moment your lips found each other, the way your tongues danced in harmony with the taste of wine still lingering in each other’s tongues. How could he ever forget? It was the first time his heart pounded so loudly he felt it might jump out of his chest. That was when he asked you to be his girlfriend. And you gave him the answer he prayed for.
The first moment you slept over and it was filled with innocent intimacy— Chuuya’s chest pressed up against your back, his arms wrapped around your waist and the scent of your hair permeating his senses. He remembered you chuckling as you told him to quit looking at you and sleep, and he remembered the way goosebumps formed on your skin as he whispered, low and raspy, into your ear a “goodnight, my princess.”
Then there were subtle moments that slowly spiralled into something bigger.
The first moment he visited your parents with you, and they had been so warm and welcoming. Had it not been for them, Chuuya would have never known ‘parental love’. They were people with such kind souls; they accepted him as an ability user, said that he was welcome anytime, even if you weren’t there with him. And he immediately knew where you got your kind nature from. They never expected anything more from him than the usual; to treat their daughter right. And damn right he would. When you had gone to the restroom they looked at him with such genuity as they said they’d be blessed if they ended up with such a sweet son-in-law like him.
The first moment you talked with him about the possibilities of having a family, expecting him to freak out but instead he agreed. He’d be honoured to have one with you. And you told him he’d have to come up with a heck of a proposal to lock you in forever. The both of you were aware of what a lie that was, though— you’ve had each other’s hearts since the first few dates, there was no way you’d say no.
But the moment he treasured the most? The life-changing moments.
The day he actually did propose, in a simple humble way— in front of the only people who mattered: you and your parents. He had asked for your parents’ permission to take your hand in marriage beforehand, and they easily agreed, welcoming him with open arms. He still remembered that being the first day your father called him ‘son’, and they had shared the warmest hug he’s ever felt from anyone other than you.
The moment you said ‘yes’ and the both of you had tears in your eyes. He had slipped the ring through your finger and got up from his knee, hugging his now-fiancée, your parents clapping in the background.
“I’ll protect you forever, my princess,” Chuuya vowed.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
But life-changing moments could mean both good and bad, and that day set the tone for the rest of Chuuya’s life, whether he liked it or not.
“Okay but promise you’ll be back later?” you had asked him, getting up to send him off at the door for yet another mission.
“I promise, my princess,” he replied, smiling at you and giving you a quick peck on the cheek. Chuuya noticed your wide grin and arched a brow. “What’re you so smiley about? Has all the wedding planning got to your head?”
You playfully punched him on the shoulder and looked around to make sure no one was near— the both of you had been at your parents’ house to ask them for opinions on the wedding. It was coming up in a month and everything was almost settled. Almost.
“Hmm, I’m not too sure about it yet, but I’ll leave it as a surprise when you get home later,” you teased, sticking out your tongue.
Chuuya let out a resigned sigh, ruffling your hair. “Fine, I’ll try to be back as fast as I can then,” he told you, giving you another kiss before he turned to go.
And he did make it back.
Just not in time.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Please be okay, please be okay.
It replayed like a chant in his head as he continued to make a beeline to get to you. Flashes of your smile crossed his mind as he sped through the city on his bike, tears already streaming down his face. He prayed and prayed for your safety, although the rational part of him knew that it was useless. The only one who could do anything was him.
He should’ve caught on sooner. The enemies were buying time by drawling out the fight with him. They were angry at the Port Mafia— more specifically, with Chuuya— for killing their leader. And they wanted him to pay for it.
But they knew they weren’t going to get his head.
So they went for the next best thing: you.
Their earlier conversation replayed in Chuuya’s head, no matter how much he begged for it to stop.
“You’re the vessel of a god, of Arahabaki, aren’t you?” the new leader had taunted, unfazed by Chuuya’s presence. “You’ve never known fear, or danger, have you? To be weak, to be... human.”
“Get to the point, asshole.”
“I don’t really have one, except...” and he had grinned, the most triumphant grin he’s ever had. “I know your weakness.”
Chuuya had rolled his eyes. “Then come at me, if you dare,” the redhead had coolly replied, completely unperturbed. But the next sentence that had floated to his ears might as well have killed him.
“Oh, I’m not going to do shit to you, boy,” the leader had revealed. His grin had grown even wider. “Let me show you how human you can be.”
And he did.
The sight that greeted Chuuya when he got to your parents’ house he’d never forget. White mahogany door wide open, the lock broken, no lights on and the biggest kick to the guts? Even a few feet away from the house, he could see the blood spattered on the floor.
As he rushed into the house, it played in his mind over and over again — your smile, your laugh, the way you moved, the way you loved; all the moments you spent together, or even when you were apart and all he could think of was you. Now, he wasn’t even religious but he was praying to god that you were safe.
But life was harsh. It dashed his hopes in a matter of seconds. Because moments later, he had your lifeless body in his arms, tears streaming down his cheeks and your blood getting on his face as he tried to kiss you awake.
“No, no, please come back to me, please wake up,” he mumbled, over and over, touching your bloody face and kissing your eyelids, hoping that they’d somehow open. “I haven’t made you my wife yet please get up, princess.”
But your body temperature said you’d been there for a few hours already. It was pointless.
The moment he gathered the courage to look around the room, he wished he didn’t. There, just a few feet away from you, at the edge of the living room, next to the kitchen counter, your parents lay beside each other, hands clasped together, bodies as lifeless as yours.
And as his eyes caught on to what you had been holding onto as you died, Chuuya’s heart fell.
It was your ‘surprise’ for him.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Life is full of fleeting moments.
Life, in itself, could be fleeting.
A month later, he brought flowers for each of you. He’d been diligent this time, in visiting your graves everyday. You had no other close family members, so he’d had to settle everything. All of you were next to each other, and as he looked at your gravestones, an image of the four of you having your last meal together at your parents’ house flashed across his mind.
He stifled back the tears. No, not out here. Not again. Chuuya had already lost count of how many times he’s grieved for too long at the cemetery. Not today. No. Today was supposed to be your wedding. Yet here he was, standing on your grave.
Chuuya clenched his fist at the thought, and then remembered the flowers he brought. He brought one for each of you.
He placed a bouquet on your father’s grave. He had tied a note to it, saying ‘It would’ve been an honor to be your son, dad.’ Chuuya couldn’t hold his tears in any longer as he thought about the way he had so warmly welcomed Chuuya into the family. The way he called him ‘son’, how they’d just watch tv together in the living room while you and your mother would be preparing their favourite meal. He remembered your father whispering to him, “you know, I never thought I wanted a son, until I met you.” They had shared a hug after that. “You’re a good kid.”
Chuuya clenched his fist. If there was something he could hit he would. No. How could he be a good kid? His mere involvement with his daughter led to their entire family’s demise. How could he be good? How could he have ever deserved to be called ‘son’ by the man who gave him the kind of love he wished he always had?
The tears didn’t stop there, because they got even heavier as Chuuya turned to look at your mother’s grave. He placed another bouquet on her’s, the note tied there said ‘You’re the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, and I’m so glad your daughter took after you.’ Because it’s true. He’s heard of the sacrifices your mother’s made for the family. How she put everything she wanted aside for you and your father, so you could each live out your dream while she stayed put and became the mother and wife that you both needed. Chuuya never spent a lot of time alone with her, but he remembered your father telling him, “I’d die for her. I’d kill anyone who tried to come near her.”
You should’ve killed me, you should’ve turned me away. You shouldn’t have let me be with your daughter. It’s all my fault.
And as he walked over to your grave, he held two bouquets. No, he didn’t miscalculate. He put one down, to which the note said ‘If I could’ve done it all over again, I would’ve loved you right.’ Chuuya fell to his knees as he recalled everything about you; every memory he had with you. How close you two were coming to being blissful. It had been a month since that fateful night, and today was supposed to be the day of the wedding.
Slowly, he pulled a note out of his pocket and looked at your name carved in the headstone. “Hey princess,” he whispered, trying hard not to choke on his tears. “We, uh, never got to do this so let me read you mine, okay? But only if you promise not to laugh.”
And he laughs at how stupid he was being. He wished you could laugh, and tell him how silly it sounded. But you couldn’t. He still read it out loud for you anyway.
“Never in all my life, did I think Id be so lucky as to be able to marry someone like you. You’re my best friend, my confidant, my lover, my home. I’ll follow you wherever you go, and I promise to support you in whatever you do. I’ve always wondered how you always seem to make me feel at home, and I found the answer in your parents.” Chuuya looked over to their graves, more tears threatening to spill out. “Mom, dad, I’m so glad I’m finally able to be a part of your family now when I’ve never had one. You have both taught me what it means to be a good parent,” and the redhead turns his attention back to your grave, softly calling your name. “I promise I’ll be the best husband, and I promise to put you... and our baby first.”
And then he placed down the other bouquet right next to yours. “How silly of me, vowing to put you both first but failing to protect either of you,” he choked out as he cried.
That night he lost everything. The only real parental figures he ever had, the love of his life, and the only one he could possibly love more than you.
He stared at the note on the last bouquet: ‘I wish you could’ve seen the world, I would’ve given you everything, my child.’
Chuuya lost what was, what is, and what could’ve been, all in one night. All solely because he existed.
He felt everything; grief, loss, terror. He’s dying on the inside. He’s never felt more human.
And he thinks he’ll never recover.

It Was Worth Trying by MidnightLightHowlite | Art by Misa

Seeing Dazai float face down in a river was not all that unusual. True, it hadn't happened in four years, but the view was not exactly a foreign one. No, what was foreign was the fact that Dazai seemed to be shorter. And younger. And didn't remember him. In retrospect, Chuuya probably shouldn't have let the boy call Mori because that allowed his boss to put him on babysitting duty.
(Or Dazai gets deaged. No romance will happen till they are both the same age again.)

There had been something very weird, very off about the new recruit. He had popped up out of thin air a few months ago, wrapped from head to toe in bandages. Not a word of what he did before, saying he wanted to join the sheep. He wasn't strong or skilled, and truly, there was no logical reason for Chuuya to pay him any mind.
But then the Port Mafia put a huge bounty on his head and things started to get interesting

Fifth-grade classmates Q and Aya are convinced that their older brothers would make a perfect pair if they’d just stop fighting for five minutes. Dazai and Chuuya, who have been dating for over a year, find this too funny to correct them.
Dazai takes in his younger sibling, Q, after they’re removed from their father’s home. Overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising of a child when he can barely keep himself alive some days, Dazai leans on his partner, Chuuya, to help lead him through. It’s a good thing Q gets along so well with Chuuya’s younger sister, but Dazai thinks he might die of laughter if the pair try to “secretly” set him up on another date with his own boyfriend.

Chuuya laid in the hospital bed, his consciousness slipping away slowly as he patiently awaited his demise. The doctors had assured him he wouldn't feel a thing but for some reason he couldn't shake this feeling his chest. An subtle pain which at this point had coaxed his stomach into a frenzy. Something was wrong but there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it.

All his life Dazai felt like a tool, a pawn that was just tossed aside when not needed. He was looked down on and felt useless, so slowly a fire ignited within him and turned him into a merciless person also well known as a "Soulless Demon".
He always believed he was destined to do wrong until one day when he finds Chuuya who proves him wrong.

Dazai smiles. He catches him when his vision finally goes dark and the next thing Chuuya wakes to is emptiness in his heart and a stack of neatly folded clothes.

Dazai stared at his subordinate and the white tiger passed out on the ground, dismayed. It almost worked. This was the fourth person they've went to. There was one more person Dazai could take Atsushi to but he had enough reason to guess that it wouldn't work.
Dazai made a face.
There was one person Dazai knew who could do the job. He'd successfully commit suicide though before that gremlin ever found out he had such thoughts. The taste of metallic filled his mouth. He held in the urge to spit it out.
His ears rang as he imagined a shrieking voice yelling his name like it was the worst insult one could come up with and the mirage of fire that surrounded those blue eyes and foul mouth. Ugh, he was so annoying even in his imagination...and short.
Sticking a pinky into his ear to clear out the haunting voice, Dazai went about gathering up his apprentice and the tiger. Maybe fate would take pity on him and this next trip would solve their problem...
He could feel the cursed blood laughing at him all the way back to their hotel room.

Quatervois (n.) a crossroads; a critical decision or turning point in one's life
Chuuya didn't expect to see a man hanging from a tree.
Chuuya didn't expect to meet the man again.
Chuuya certainly didn't expect the man to be the crown prince of the kingdom.

The transition Dazai and Chuuya routinely make between their heated arguing and completely seamless teamwork is being disrupted by their changing relationship. Which is an issue, because the two of them have been assigned to what could possibly be the most important undercover mission of their careers. Will they be able to strengthen their partnership for the better, or will it crack under the ever growing pressure?

Dazai has been chosen to become a part of the elite Bloody Valentine Task Force, even if he personally thinks that it’d be a lot more fun to stay at home with his boyfriend. Especially since it took years to convince Chuuya to finally move in with him.
It’s just a coincidence that Chuuya’s agreed to move in with him the moment he’s been chosen to become a part of the Task Force, right?
Resolving the Matter in Spirit by ASentientSlug | Art by Tomomorey

Dazai's boring, everyday life ends in an accidental double suicide, but instead of facing the sweet release of endless sleep, Dazai finds himself in the Spirit World, where nothing is familiar and dangerous, soul-eating spirits lurk behind every corner. To get out, Dazai must confront the ghosts of his past and the ghosts of his present when one very familiar and yet very dangerous spirit takes Dazai under his wing.

It all started with diamonds.
Chuuya thinks he would've been just as attracted to it if it wasn't for the equally shiny police badge in his pocket.
It all ends with a silver bullet.
For someone as talented in the dance of crime, Dazai has developed quite a bias about the jewels that would catch anybody's fancy.
Diamonds? They're overrated. Old. Boring.
Rubies? Sapphires?
Now those—
—those are worth getting caught for.

Usually, whenever Chuuya jumped, he flew.
This was not one of those times.
(Or, alternatively, where Chuuya breaks into Dazai's mansion as a thief, and comes out as a kidnapper. Even though he's also sort of a kid. And it's also not kidnapping.)
(Not when the victim bribed the kidnapper to take him.)
“You do know that the treasure doesn’t exist, right?”
“The what?”
“The treasure. You know, the one in the rumours. It doesn’t exist.”
“…are you screwing with me?”
“No?”
“I’m not an idiot. If there’s no treasure, why else are you here then?”
“Um…this is my house?”
(Also featuring: Chuuya and the different types of falling.)

Avatar The Last Airbender/Korra AU: The world has changed. Technology can meet nearly every need, to the point where bending is considered a relic of the past, and with it, the Avatar. In fact, no one has seen the Avatar for nearly 100 years, and most people prefer to keep it that way.
Nakahara Chuuya, Prince of the Fire Nation, more than understands what it's like to be considered a relic. After the Fire nation moved to a parliamentary system, the title of Fire Lord is a largely ceremonial one, and Chuuya struggles under the burden of an office that restricts his every move without giving him any actual power to enact change.
When he runs away, intent on finding his own path, it seems like fate when he runs into Dazai Osamu, a mysterious man who claims he has a way to cure the unexplained illness Chuuya has suffered from his whole life.

By the power of great ancient magic, supernatural beings are aptly hidden just behind the eyelids of humans. Vampires, witches, weres, faeries – all of them live and exist out of the fairy tales books.
Humans' eyes are just shielded into not comprehending their true nature, their magic, and their trickery. To protect them, the Gods say. But Dazai has always known that he’s no ordinary human. From the gift of seeing beyond the magic veil to the peculiar dreams to the aching, hollow feeling hugging his chest in a tight embrace – he knows he’s different.
What Dazai doesn’t know is that this isn’t the start of his story and the stranger with glowing blue eyes that have always been the center of his recurring dreams. What Dazai doesn’t know is that this is not exactly his first life. Dazai doesn't know a lot of things. But with time, he will come to know that he doesn't mind dying the second time for Chuuya.

Title: In Blood we are Sealed (Oneshot)
Rating: Mature
Fandom: Bungou Stray Dogs
Fandom Event: @soukokubigbang
Artwork by: @redzeverin. The awesome Masterpiece!
Pairing: Dazai Osamu/Nakahara Chuuya
Character(s): Dazai Osamu, Nakahara Chuuya, Nakajima Atsushi, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, Akutagawa Gin, Oda Sakunosuke (mentioned),Ozaki Kouyou (mentioned), Yosano Akiko (mentioned), Arahabaki, Kunikida Doppo (mentioned)
Warnings: Blood, blood usage, blood as paint, blood magic, Magic AU, Chuuya’s potty mouth, Dazai’s an asshole.
Summary: Dazai stared at his subordinate and the white tiger passed out on the ground, dismayed. It almost worked. This was the fourth person they’ve went to. There was one more person Dazai could take Atsushi to but he had enough reason to guess that it wouldn’t work.
Dazai made a face.
There was one person Dazai knew who could do the job. He’d successfully commit suicide though before that gremlin ever found out he had such thoughts. The taste of metallic filled his mouth. He held in the urge to spit it out.
His ears rang as he imagined a shrieking voice yelling his name like it was the worst insult one could come up with and the mirage of fire that surrounded those blue eyes and foul mouth. Ugh, he was so annoying even in his imagination…and short.
Sticking a pinky into his ear to clear out the haunting voice, Dazai went about gathering up his apprentice and the tiger. Maybe fate would take pity on him and this next trip would solve their problem…
He could feel the cursed blood laughing at him all the way back to their hotel room.
Or a magical AU where Dazai inadvertently gets Atsushi cursed and they have to go to Chuuya, a powerful witch in his own right, to break it.
