Sorry for my absence! I have been battling some shiznit which has taken up far more of my time and energy than I was willing to give it. Some of you may be aware that I suffer with multiple auto-immune disorders and two of them are quite closely related; #sjogrenssyndrome and #raynaudssyndrome You may remember that last year I lost my fingernail to a rather aggressive hangnail (#Paronychia) well recently I have been battling multiple digital ulcers on 3 of my fingers at a time alongside an increase in severity of my Raynaud’s attacks. My fingers are constantly cold, often turning white then blue and coupled with intense pain, burning and loss of dexterity. These attacks render my hands practically useless. You completely take for granted how debilitating the loss of use of fingers can be to complete every day tasks like dressing, working, cooking, opening things, lifting things, just generally ALL the things!! So yesterday I was seen by a #Rheumatologist who has prescribed me with a new drug call Sildenafil which is hopefully going to make a vast improvement to my symptoms 🤞🏾 You can imagine my shock and horror when I open the packet and read the leaflet to find out that this medication is mainly used to treat male erectile dysfunction! 🙈🙄 it better work - cos dealing with this pain is not really an option. Doing everything for clients, loved ones, friends etc and not taking care of myself. Even worse is that I have strongly advocated the need for self-care to all of those people. Infact it was something I actually thought I was good at, it wasn't until my health began to detiorate that I recognised the above! One of the few positives of having a chronic illness is that I have absolutely had to learn to make self care a priority. I still give to much and I'm rubbish at saying no, yet I am getting better at prioritising braking time for myself. JANUARY CHRONIC ILLNESS PHOTO CHALLENGE DAY 9 - INSPIRATION Ok so I'm going to be as cheesy af and say that these three are my inspiration. I'm not saying it to be cheesy but because they truly are. Last April I was at my lowest point, suicide seemed and felt like my only option. I felt as if both my physical and mental health were failing and that I was just a burden and hindrance on all those I loved. I contemplated suicide on many occasions, planned how I would do it, set a date and even started to write my goodbye letters. I got to the point of holding a blade against my skin and then I heard their voices as they came in from school and they inspired me to remember who I was, who I am. That very second I stopped what I was doing and went straight to my GP and asked for help! When I am low their laughter lifts me up, when I'm in pain their cuddles bring comfort, every day they inspire me to keep fighting.
