Bouncing Back Poem
“How are you going losing your baby weight?”
Your eyes review my body with fear.
I observe you glancing at my stomach,
your judgment is quite clear.
You must be telling yourself,
she’s let herself go.
You think that my worth is determined,
by the dimension of my torso.
It highlights to me the message that society tells mothers every day.
Thinness is a sign of success and extra weight must go away.
It’s true I’m different,
I’ve transformed, mind, body and soul!
I don’t want to go back to the same person as before,
that is just not my goal!
I want to treat my body like the friend she deserves,
My friend that has housed and fed my two baby girls.
Who has grown and changed and met each of their needs.
I don’t want to punish this friend who has provided my most precious gifts to me.
I realise now the judgment that you show
Says less about me and a lot about you.
Sometimes I doubt myself - The shoulds come in.
But I remember I don’t want to model to my daughters that the only goal is to be thin.

Exploring How Mother-Baby Interaction Flourishes in Postnatal Yoga
The beauty of motherhood lies in the profound connection that is established between a mother and her baby, and this bond blossoms during the precious postnatal period. Postnatal yoga emerges as a unique and nurturing practice that not only aids in physical recovery but also enhances the mother-baby connection. In this article, we delve into the heartwarming world of mother-baby interaction within postnatal yoga, exploring how it nurtures, strengthens, and celebrates the unique bond between a mother and her baby.

Mother with her baby daughter practice yoga at home
The Sacred Postnatal Journey
The postnatal period, often referred to as the “fourth trimester,” is a time of profound transformation for both mother and baby. It is marked by physical healing, emotional adjustments, and the blossoming of the mother-baby bond. Postnatal yoga, tailored to meet the unique needs of new mothers, provides a safe and Child Nutrition space for the mother and her baby to connect on a deeper level.
The Dance of Mother-Baby Interaction in Postnatal Yoga
Baby-Wearing: One of the most remarkable aspects of postnatal yoga is baby-wearing. Mothers use soft carriers or wraps to securely hold their babies close during the practice. This physical closeness fosters a sense of comfort and trust, allowing the baby to feel the steady beat of their mother’s heart.
Shared Poses: Postnatal yoga classes are carefully designed to incorporate the presence of the baby into the practice. These gentle poses are safe and accessible for both mother and child, focusing on bonding rather than complex yoga maneuvers. Examples include
Baby in Savasana: During the relaxation pose, Savasana, mothers place their baby on their mat beside them, encouraging skin-to-skin contact and relaxation for both.
Baby in Downward Dog: In Downward Dog, mothers gently lift their babies, encouraging them to stretch and explore while maintaining physical closeness.
Eye Contact and Vocal Interaction: Postnatal yoga classes emphasize the importance of maintaining eye contact with the baby and verbally engaging with them during the practice. This nurturing interaction strengthens communication, trust, and emotional connection.
Gentle Touch and Massage: Incorporating gentle touches and baby massage into the practice is soothing for the baby and allows mothers to connect with their baby on a tactile level. These moments provide physical comfort and promote bonding.
Shared Breath: Breathing exercises are an integral part of postnatal yoga.    Mothers often synchronize their breath with their baby’s natural breathing patterns, creating a sense of unity, calm, and connection.
The practice of mother-baby Massage interaction in postnatal yoga is a profound and heartwarming experience. It elevates the yoga practice from a physical exercise to a shared journey of connection, trust, and well-being. These classes provide a nurturing environment where mothers can bond with their babies while simultaneously tending to their own physical and emotional Health
In the intricate tapestry of motherhood, postnatal yoga becomes a graceful dance where mother and baby move together in harmony. Through gentle poses, shared breath, loving touch, and mutual presence, mother-baby interaction in postnatal yoga flourishes as a powerful tool for deepening the extraordinary bond between a mother and her child. It is a celebration of the love, trust, and connection that define the beautiful journey of motherhood.

The Benefits of Pregnancy Massage for Physical and Emotional Well-being
Pregnancy is a remarkable journey marked by profound changes in both the body and the mind. As an expectant mother's body undergoes a series of transformations, nurturing care becomes essential to ensure not only physical health but also emotional well-being. In this context, pregnancy massage emerges as a gentle yet powerful practice that offers a myriad of benefits for both the body and the soul. Beyond its physiological advantages, pregnancy massage provides a soothing sanctuary where mothers-to-be can find solace, relaxation, and a deep connection with their growing baby.
Tumblr media
A Delicate Touch for Physical Comfort
Pregnancy brings about various physical discomforts, including muscle tension, swollen limbs, and back pain due to the shift in the body’s center of gravity. Pregnancy massage, designed to address these specific needs, employs gentle and nurturing touch to alleviate these discomforts. Skilled massage therapists use techniques like Swedish massage and gentle stretches to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation, promoting a sense of physical comfort that is often elusive during this transformative period.
Supporting the Body’s Changing Needs
The human body undergoes remarkable changes during pregnancy, including hormonal shifts, weight gain, and postural adjustments. Pregnancy massage adapts to these changes, focusing on specific areas that bear the brunt of these transformations. For instance, lower back and pelvic pain can be alleviated through targeted massage techniques that ease the strain on the muscles and ligaments. By providing tailored support, pregnancy massage assists in maintaining optimal alignment and reducing the risk of common discomforts.
A Pathway to Emotional Well-being
Pregnancy is not only a physical journey; it is a deeply emotional one as well. Hormonal fluctuations and the anticipation of motherhood can give rise to feelings of anxiety, stress, and even mood swings. Pregnancy massage plays a pivotal role in promoting emotional well-being by triggering the release of endorphins—the body’s natural mood enhancers. As the soothing touch of massage envelops the expectant mother, it creates a serene space where stress melts away, fostering a sense of tranquility and emotional balance.
Enhancing Prenatal Bonding
The connection between a mother and her unborn child is a profound and sacred one. Pregnancy massage provides an opportunity for mothers-to-be to deepen this bond by creating a focused, intimate moment with their baby. Through gentle strokes and deliberate touch, the massage therapist can facilitate a sense of connection between the mother and her growing child. This experience can foster a deeper emotional attachment, allowing the expectant mother to communicate her love, care, and positive intentions to her baby.
Preparation for Labor and Postpartum Recovery
Beyond the pregnancy journey, massage can also offer benefits in preparation for labor and postpartum recovery. Prenatal massage helps to relax and soften muscles, potentially aiding in the ease of labor contractions. Additionally, it can alleviate edema and improve circulation, promoting quicker healing postpartum. By nurturing the body throughout 9 months pregnancy, massage contributes to a smoother transition into the postpartum phase, where self-care remains crucial.
Pregnancy massage is a nurturing practice that transcends the physical realm, reaching into the emotional and spiritual dimensions of the expectant mother’s experience. Its gentle touch offers relief from physical discomforts, nurtures emotional well-being, and enhances the intimate bond between mother and child. As a holistic approach to pregnancy care, mother baby massage celebrates the journey of motherhood by creating a serene space where both body and soul find respite, renewal, and a deeper connection to the miraculous process of bringing new life into the world.

Postnatal Newborn Screening Tests
Tumblr media
It is not difficult to identify certain issues, disabilities, and abnormalities in the baby before birth with the doctor's checkups that begin when the baby is in the mother's womb. There are various diagnostic methods available for this purpose. With the help of ultrasonography, some hormone tests conducted on the mother, and a specific test called "amniocentesis" where samples are taken from the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby, some chromosomal and organic anomalies, as well as functional problems, can be detected beforehand. In some cases, termination of pregnancy may also be an option based on these findings.
Newborn Screening Tests
Newborn screening tests are a series of blood tests, hearing tests, and other tests that are performed on newborn babies to check for certain medical conditions that may not be apparent at birth. These tests are usually done within the first few days of a baby's life and can help detect and treat potentially life-threatening conditions early on. Some of the conditions that can be detected through newborn screening tests include metabolic disorders, genetic disorders, and hearing loss. The exact tests that are done may vary depending on the state or country, but the goal is always to identify and treat potential health problems as early as possible to give the baby the best chance for a healthy life.
How are the tests done?
Newborn screening tests are done through a simple blood test. A healthcare professional will prick the baby's heel and collect a few drops of blood onto a special card. The blood is then sent to a laboratory for testing. The process is quick, easy, and generally painless for the baby. Some states also require a hearing test as part of the newborn screening process, which involves placing a small earpiece in the baby's ear to measure their response to sounds.
Not an Intelligence Test!
Some families do not see the importance of newborn screening tests and even consider them unnecessary, and this is a fact. Unfortunately, this test is commonly referred to as an "intelligence test," which contributes to this attitude. Experts warn families and emphasize that these tests are not for measuring intelligence. Rather, they help in the early detection of two critical diseases that could cause several problems, including mental retardation, later in life. Detecting these diseases in the first few weeks of life could prevent their progression. Prenatal tests are not sufficient for detecting these diseases. If left undetected, these diseases could cause brain damage that cannot be reversed. Read the full article

Postnatal Period - Issues, Self Care & Treatment | Solh Wellness
The postpartum period, also known as the postnatal period, is critical for new mothers to adjust to their new role as carers. This period usually lasts 6 weeks after the baby is born. It can be challenging for new mothers because they experience physical and emotional changes that put them at risk for mental health problems.
This blog will address postpartum mental health issues as well as how families and society can help new mothers.
Tumblr media
Mental Health Problems
During the postnatal period, many new mothers experience mood disturbances, with approximately 85% of women experiencing moderate and transient symptoms.
Ten to fifteen percent of women experience severe depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues such as PTSD, adjustment disorders, and postpartum psychosis.
PPD is the most common mental health issue among new mothers, characterised by symptoms such as chronic sadness, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty sleeping or concentrating.
Another common mental health problem is postpartum anxiety, which manifests as excessive worry or fear, racing thoughts, and other physical symptoms such as heart palpitations or shortness of breath.
Postpartum blues, also known as "baby blues," is a common and temporary condition that affects many new mothers, causing mood swings, tears, exhaustion, and difficulty sleeping.
How can individuals, families, and society help?
Families can be extremely helpful to new mothers during this difficult time.
Cooking, cleaning, and caring for older siblings or pets are all beneficial activities.
New mothers' support can be greatly improved by providing emotional support, listening to their concerns, encouraging self-care, and assisting with breastfeeding.
Society can also help to reduce stigmas associated with mental health issues like postpartum depression and anxiety, as well as encourage open dialogue and acceptance of these conditions.
Mothers' postpartum self-care advice
Self-care is essential for new mothers recovering from childbirth and adjusting to their new roles.
Rest, hydration, and a healthy diet should be prioritised for new mothers.
They should also accept assistance. Don't be afraid to ask for and receive assistance with household tasks such as cooking and cleaning from family and friends.
Take care of their mental health; if you are suffering from postpartum depression, seek professional help.
Consult your doctor about postpartum exercise options that are both safe and effective for mood enhancement and recovery.
Spend time bonding with your baby by making skin-to-skin contact, talking, and cuddling with him or her.
Postpartum Disorders Treatment
Counselling: For postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, talk therapy or counselling can be an effective treatment option. It can help mothers process their emotions and develop coping strategies.
Medication: Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications may be prescribed to help control the symptoms of postpartum disorders. These medications may be safe for breastfeeding mothers, but you should talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits.
Support groups: In a safe and welcoming environment, support groups can help mothers connect with others going through similar experiences. Join the MomMeTime support group at Solh Wellness, which is holding a month-long campaign to raise awareness about mothers' mental health.
Exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate rest can all aid in the improvement of mood and symptoms.
To summarise, the postpartum period can be difficult for new mothers, and the support of family members and society is essential to their physical and emotional well-being. If a new mother is experiencing postpartum depression, she should prioritise self-care and seek professional help. By assisting new mothers during their postnatal period, we can promote healthy outcomes for mothers and their children. We are excited to launch a new 'Solh Fiesta' campaign in May to commemorate 'Mother's Day' by focusing on women's mental health and well-being. Throughout May, we'll host daily mindfulness exercises, expert sessions on mental health and parenting, and fun contests, culminating in a grand finale on May 31st with numerous experts.

The Role of Pregnancy Massage in Bonding with the Unborn Baby
Pregnancy is a remarkable journey filled with anticipation, joy, and a profound connection between a mother and her unborn baby. During this transformative time, various practices and rituals can deepen the bond between mother and child. One such practice that offers numerous benefits is pregnancy massage. Beyond its physical and emotional advantages, pregnancy massage plays a vital role in fostering a deep connection and bond with the unborn baby. In this article, we will explore the unique role of pregnancy massage in nurturing this precious bond.
Tumblr media
Facilitating Relaxation and Emotional Well-being
Pregnancy massage creates a serene and calming environment, allowing expectant mothers to relax and release stress. As the mother experiences physical and emotional relaxation during the massage, the soothing touch stimulates the release of endorphins, commonly known as “feel-good” hormones. These endorphins help to elevate the mother’s mood, reduce anxiety levels, and promote overall emotional well-being.
The unborn baby is intricately connected to the mother’s emotional state. When the mother is relaxed and at peace, these positive emotions extend to the baby, creating a tranquil and harmonious environment in which both can thrive.
Heightening Body Awareness
Pregnancy massage enables expectant mothers to become more attuned to their bodies and the changes they are experiencing throughout the 9 months pregnancy. The gentle touch and focused attention during the massage provide an opportunity for the mother to connect with her physical sensations, encouraging a deeper understanding of her body’s needs and responses.
This increased body awareness creates a pathway for the mother to develop a profound connection with her unborn baby. As she becomes more in tune with her body, she can better recognize and appreciate the movements, kicks, and subtle cues from her baby, strengthening the bond between them.
Promoting Positive Communication
Communication is not limited to words alone; it can be expressed through touch and energy. During pregnancy massage, the therapist’s skilled touch, coupled with the mother’s intention, creates a gentle form of non-verbal communication between the mother, the therapist, and the unborn baby.
The nurturing touch along with other things like Garbh Sanskar conveys love, care, and positive energy, which the baby can sense and respond to. The unborn baby perceives this touch as a form of acknowledgment and connection, reinforcing the bond between mother and child.
Encouraging Mindful Presence
Pregnancy massage offers a sanctuary for expectant mothers to immerse themselves in the present moment. As the mother focuses on her breath, the soothing strokes, and the sensations in her body, she cultivates a state of mindful presence. This presence allows her to fully embrace and cherish the special connection with her unborn baby.
By practicing mindfulness during pregnancy massage, the mother is not only nurturing herself but also establishing a profound connection with her baby. The baby, in turn, experiences the mother’s undivided attention and love, fostering a deep sense of security and belonging.
So, pregnancy massage is a powerful tool that extends far beyond physical relaxation and pain relief. It holds a unique role in nurturing the bond between a mother and her unborn baby. Through the facilitation of relaxation, heightened body awareness, positive communication, and mindful presence, pregnancy massage creates a nurturing environment for the mother and an opportunity for the baby to experience love, care, and connection.
As expectant mothers embrace the benefits of pregnancy massage, they can embark on a transformative journey of bonding with their unborn baby. The profound connection established through this gentle and intentional touch fosters a sense of love, harmony, and anticipation, enriching the experience of pregnancy for both mother and child.
