Curly Hair Advice

Tips I’ve learned recently.

GET A HAIRDRESSER WHO UNDERSTANDS CURLY HAIR. Hairdressers who do not understand how it works will tell you false info. My hairdresser told me to stop using my products everytime i shower and as expected my hair went frizzy af.

Learn your hairtype! Different shampoos can be suited to you’re specific hairtype. For example, I am type 3, so I can’t use type 4 products for kinks and coils.

SHOP IN THE ETHNIC HAIR SECTION! I don’t care if you’re white, I don’t care if your straight haired friend said it was cultural appropriation, by some genetic test of fate we got ethnic hair despite not being ethnic so suck it up buttercup and go buy some Aussie hair creme cause god ur gonna need it. If you’re POC, hell you already know this was really for the curly gurlies who’s ancestors were mf vikings like me.

DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAIR DURING THE DAY. DO YOU WANT FRIZZ? I DIDNT THINK SO!

Relating to the last one, don’t let people mess with your hair. I’ve had friends just grab brushes and start brushing without asking or wetting it first and GUESS WHAT! YA CANT! They mean well so just politely tell them that your hair cannot do that.

Get a wet brush cause normal brushes will NOT do the job. If you can find a brush for your hair type even better!

Get a silk pillowcase! Especially if you move in your sleep like I do. It prevents tangles in your sleep.

Another sleep option is to get a hair bonnet. Relating to number 3, personal hair care isn’t cultural appropriation. Again, if you’re POC you probably already know.

Don’t straighten your hair! I did this and my hair looked like a frizzy mat. It’s probably best to go the curly route for special occasions, you’ll get wayyy more compliments that way ;)

Try to enjoy having curly hair. It can seem taxing a lot of the time, but that hard work equals hair that looks perfect and natural :)

Hiya folks. Todays the ffxiv hair contest winers were announced and of of the styles I made won.

The one who will be implimented in game will be Natural curls.

These were made with my friends in mind (because I love them and they deserve more actual natural curls) while taking into consideration the lack of curly hair, the textures I know they would be able to make and how it would look like on non poc wols

The winning hair

This was the first and more simple one I made. I started out with the base shape then painted it over with a natural curl hair brush.

I wanted to make a texture I felt i’ve seen the devs make in Highlander/Midlander hair but no where else.

I simplified it for the quickly drawn examples … I have a feeling the end product might be closer to those instead of the more curly version. Here is to hoping no.

The ones I made but did not win, so wont get in game

The curly swoop

This one was actually requested by one of my friends.

She wanted me to try a hair still she wanted to have in real life. Due to the reasons stated on top, i had to loosen up the curls of the swoop to make it work with what i knew was a texture they could pull off and also work with non poc characters.

Old school ponytail

This one was inspired by nostalgia from when I was in grade school.

I remembered those hail tie balls so well and associated them with fond memories.

Sadly I didn’t think i could do my original idea of the thick cute braids i associated these with in a way that the game would make it not look racist/work with non poc characters so I focused on just the curls. It ended up reminding me of Terra from FF6 but more curly.

In the end. I’m glad Natural curls won. I really hope they get the texture right and curly.

I still feel awkward cause i’m white woman who submitted these. But I did them with love and support for my friends and to yell at SE to add more poc hair (wich i saw a shorter dreads hair and also a really elegant brais with poofy curls won so i guess my plan worked?)

I just hope this will make them make more hair with poc in mind so the players can eat well.

The whole transandrophobia discussion thing is weird bc it feels like it's a bunch of poc and jewish trans people being like "here are my experiences of how specifically being MASCULINE had affected me, and the discrimination and violence I experienced based on that. And here is how that relates to me being a racial/ethnic minority"

And then a few loud white trans people going "ohhh you wanna be oppressed so bad you *slur*. This is why there aren't any poc in your movement it's because REAL poc understand intersectionality"

The racism my beloved Simon had to face….my baby. 🥺💔

Although painful to watch, it felt incredibly validating. It was so annoying watching some people say this show was “only about class” while dismissing the BS that Simon had to go through. The abuse was ten fold because he’s POC and S3 finally exposed that.

That being said, and on a more positive note, it was so incredibly sexy when Simon sang happy birthday to Wille in Spanish (he feels safe with him!) and when Wille admitted to fantasizing about stroking those beautiful curlssss (and then actually did it). 🥹❤️‍🩹

man i fucked up. i just fuckin... fucked up.

I very specifically asked for my hair cut with a particular tool and that is exactly what I got. a very sweet and tender gesture performed just as i requested. unfortunately that tool took off SO MUCH MORE HAIR THAN I WAS PREPARED FOR.

now it's short and the curls are GONE and I am feeling dysphoric in a way I haven't felt in a long time. 😭😭😭

what do I even do with this situation besides 1. even it out tomorrow, which will make it even shorter, and 2. wait for it to grow out? fuck!

I try so hard everyday to be perfect for myself to be better than everyone who raised me, who’s related to me, who know the old versions of me.. it’s never enough.

no one not even myself will ever see me as perfect or enough. no one will ever see me as more then my body, or what i can do for them. The ungratefulness of my family is insane. not one friend who genuinely wants to be friends with me. Everyone wants and or needs something. no one is content with just being in my presence and i in theirs. everyday of my life i wish i never called 9 1 1 that day. every fiber of my being wishes i died that day.

Life gets better sure; but new problems arise. they may not be has big in comparison to ur old ones but they are there and they nag and claw at your body until u fall apart.

toh finale soon and I just wanted to say. I hate amity so much she's the worst character ever gus deserved all her screen time luz deserved a cooler gf and also willow should've beaten her ass for the bullying she had to endure because of her. i mean technically she didn't do anything wrong I just can't stand her ugly mug god she's so ugly like they really butchered her design. and she's annoying. her siblings r cool though.
