Mairimashita! Iruma-kun s2 ep19
Tumblr media
Nice! It’s a Clara-centric episode with some bonus Azz trying to impress Iruma! I mean I don’t have anything against Ameri and I’m happy she got lots of moments with our protagonist but I just want Azz and Clara to get their chance, too you know?
This episode is fun and cute! Plus there are songs in it, too since it’s about Clara’s family.
Tumblr media
Clara’s house! Iruma and Azz are staying over for a while after what happened in the last episode. The Valac residence is located at Gaya-Gaya Forest where lots of strange creatures and plants live! According to Clara, her family knows the place really well.
And I just realized that this is the first time the boys got to visit Clara. It’s just they’ve shown us Clara’s family and this house a lot that it slipped my mind that to Iruma and Azz, this is the first time they’d be seeing it.
Tumblr media
The typical welcome in the Valac home! They did chants, too weirding out the boys especially Azz. Urara isn’t home again this time so he’s represented by a drawing. I wonder which school he’s in since it seems theirs isn’t on vacation like Babyls.
Tumblr media
Clara’s mom tells the boys to relax and feel at home. She says she’s happy because Clara brought friends home for the first time (and sorta mentions this is a first overall for their family or something). In a way that’s kinda sad that it either meant not many people wanted or thought to visit or Clara just didn’t have anyone to invite before Iruma and Azz.
On the other hand, this is almost the same reaction my own family has whenever I brought home some classmates to do school projects. I don’t have irl friends lol so they’re like “Big sis has friends?!” because my classmates would introduce themselves as friends instead of just classmates.
Tumblr media
Iruma and Azz give Clara’s mom some souvenirs from the Walter Park trip as a present (I dunno about everywhere else but this is a Japanese thing if I remember correctly and people here in the Philippines do it to whenever they visit sometimes). Iruma gives a small box of sweets and Azz gives them a huge replica of Walter Park's castle made out of chocolate. The kids immediately crowd at Azz for the chocolate until told to calm down.
I could understand them though. My siblings and I too would do the same cause that seriously looks cool and also it’s chocolate. We could devour that in a few days.
Tumblr media
After being let in the house, Clara’s brothers immediately asked the boys which one is their sister’s boyfriend which freaked them out. The brothers think that Azz would be a good catch (cause he is with being good-looking, rich, smart and popular. They don’t even have to know all these things cause Azz just looks it) but remembers that their sister is already interested in a guy named-
Clara promptly cuts them off and drags them away.
Tumblr media
We get some glimpses of what’s inside the Valac house and see a lot of strange-looking objects. Clara’s mom explains that those are brought home by her adventurer husband and that they came from those trips.
I wonder what kind of adventures and if any of the items are magical or cursed. I mean this is the Demon World so it’s possible.
Tumblr media
The mom finally brings out a photo album! She happily shows the boys Clara’s baby pictures. Azz notes how baby Clara looks like her own baby siblings. The resemblance isn't just with looks but with personality as well! Clara is embarrassed of course but Iruma says the photos are cute which made Clara happy.
That said, she’s still embarrassed letting Iruma see the photos and takes the album away. Her mom immediately brings out another one! In an attempt to stop her mom from embarrassing her any further, she reminds them that it’s shopping day.
Tumblr media
Iruma, upon hearing it’s time to buy food, says that he’s hungry so perfect timing. Clara and Azz, upon hearing that Iruma is hungry decides they’d make the food for him. It seems we might get shokugeki part 2!
Tumblr media
The idea of shopping at the forest baffled Iruma and Azz as they didn’t think there’s any supermarket here. Clara and her family explain that the so-called “supermarket” is actually what the entire forest basically is. They could get fresh produce from here and there’s so many kinds! The entire family, along with Iruma and Azz go “shopping” and are all armed with baskets to fill.
Tumblr media
A song number! As expected from the Valac family lol. I knew there’d be one. The song explains the stuff they could get in the forest and how the place is akin to an actual supermarket. There are many types of food and some which looks like regular food could be found in the unlikeliest of places. I mean, they get their meat from trees. But it’s also dangerous in here so they have to be careful.
Tumblr media
When shopping is done, Azz and Clara compare the stuff they got which they’d use for their food battle. Apparently, the stuff Azz got which looks good are actually terrible tasting compared to the weird ones Clara had gotten.
Clara’s mom tells them that there is a creature in the forest that is called Shabu-Shabu which is known as the “Ultimate Ingredient”. It could be found in the Cave of Rewards which is shown in the map up there. Iruma thinks it must be delicious and so Clara and Azz decided they’re gonna get it for him.
Tumblr media
The main trio plus Clara’s brothers all go to the cave (Clara’s mom went home cause the babies are asleep) to find this creature. The brothers tell Iruma and Azz that they should stay back as they think they shouldn’t trouble the guests. Clara immediately tells them that Iruma is actually pretty strong as he’s the Hero of Walter Park after all (Azz agrees). Iruma downplays this and says everyone did their best so he’s not the only strong one.
The brothers are amazed and asked Azz what he did at the Walter Park incident. Azz remembers what had happened with his fight alongside Sabnock and how they had to retreat and with this, he wasn’t able to give them an answer.
Tumblr media
The Shabu-Shabu appears! It looks like a chimera composed of shark, pig and lots of vegetables - the complete meal! That's why it's called Ultimate Ingredient lol. Almost everything you’d need in the kitchen all in one large and dangerous package. It even has seaweed mustache. XD
Tumblr media
Their prey is also a predator and so the Shabu-Shabu captures Clara’s brothers using his mustaches in order to eat them. Azz tries hitting it with his fireball but it kept deflecting it with a Chinese wok lol. With that not working, Clara uses all the ingredients she got from their shopping trip in order to distract the creature. Once it was busy eating, Azz cuts off the mustaches and frees the brothers.
Tumblr media
Azz thinks of what to do next. He wants to defeat this creature for Iruma and it doesn’t have any hostages anymore so he’s free to try but he knows it’s too strong. He remembers the stuff Sabnock told him at the park and decided it’s best to just retreat for now. He summons his familiar to help them escape but he thinks to himself that he’d try and get stronger after this.
Tumblr media
As they were leaving, Clara’s mom arrives and instant KOs the Shabu-Shabu for what it did to her kids. The kids are of course, surprised by this.
I’m happy they’re still acknowledging that adults are stronger than the kids. Most other shounen anime would go with the “these kids are special and they could totally win this without much proper training” but this one decided to be a bit on the realistic side. Sure the kids aren’t strong yet but they do realize this themselves one way or another and strive to be better and stronger. If they continue trying to grow then they’d end up really strong, too. It would be fun to see that development especially for the kids of the Abnormal Class who didn’t really think much of themselves before as they’d prove to others and themselves that they are capable of amazing things.
Tumblr media
They were able to go home safely and Clara’s mom cooks while Clara watches and Azz takes notes. Oh and they did use the Shabu-Shabu as it’s shown that it’s skull is outside the house haha. Iruma was able to eat a ton of food!
Tumblr media
The day ends and it was time for bed. They were tired after the long day so they declines Clara’s invite for a pillow fight. Clara then offered to do a sleeping ritual to them which is something she does for her siblings which always works. They had to lay their heads on her lap though which they immediately decline for obvious reasons. Clara doesn’t pick up on this and pulls Azz down to lay on her lap and he quickly falls asleep in the middle of complaining. Iruma gets pulls down, too and Clara starts singing a lullaby. Her singing sounded really good, too! Iruma falls asleep to this and Clara bids them good night.
Aren’t they cute? It looks so sweet.
Tumblr media
The next morning, the Valac family plus Iruma and Azz went out to gather food for their breakfast. While the trio is getting vegetables, Clara’s mom takes a photo to put on another album about her daughter. It’s so cute!
Also, Azz who was weirded out by the events of the day before seems more comfortable now and is happily participating in the stuff the Valac family does.
Tumblr media
Overall it was a peaceful time. And then we get this cliffhanger showing us that Ameri’s dad is on his way to the Valac residence for unspecified reasons.
---
That episode was really fun! Its more slice-of-life-y becoming the sort of breather episode after the previously intense battle heavy arc. It also lets us know more about Clara’s family and about Clara herself. I hope Asmodeus gets an episode like this, too.
Despite the episode being a bit more on the relaxing side, it has moments that continues Azz’s development that was happening in the previous episodes. He did take to heart the stuff Sabnock says and decides to be better. I think it’s a fun cycle that Sabnock, the self-proclaimed rival of Iruma, learned to become a better person cause of Iruma himself and taught this same lesson to Asmodeus, the self-proclaimed greatest ally of Iruma. Many shounen anime rivalries like this end up with the person learning the lesson because of their rival to be a bit bitter about it but here, they actually really appreciate it and don’t hold any grudges. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate how it’s done in other stories. All I’m saying is that seeing something different from time-to-time can be nice, too. It shakes things up a little.
I did feel a little bad when Azz couldn’t give an answer when the brothers asked him what he did during the attack on Walter Park, though. But he actually thought about it and didn’t try to lie or anything. He admitted he needed to get stronger and promises himself that he absolutely will.
I went “Aww~!” at the many heartwarming moments in this episode especially when it came to Clara’s mom. Seeing the phot album near the end made me smile so much. The scene where Clara sings to her friends is really nice and sweet, too.
The previews show that the next episode would be Ameri-centric again. This anime has so many ships revolving Iruma that it makes me wonder if this could count as a harem anime (but since that’s not exactly the overall focus of the story, it doesn’t seem like it and I only remember when the show hints that the girls like Iruma). So far Iruma has got Ameri, Clara, Kerori, and Eiko who has blatant crushes on him (with 3 out of 4 admitting it to themselves). If you’re wearing shipping goggles then there’s also Asmodeus and Kiriwo-senpai. But the one who gets the most focus when it comes to romantic development is Ameri. She gets moments and sometimes episodes that gives a spotlight to her feeling for Iruma (and there are moments where Iruma looks like he’s close to feeling the same way).
I’m wondering if this means Ameri would be the official love interest. Like, I guess it makes sense with all the development and I don’t hate it but still... it kinda makes me sad that the ships I do support for Iruma are shot down already haha. Ameri fans are so lucky! I wish Clara and Azz are given this much fighting chance, too cause so far, Iruma only thinks of them as friends.
Alright, this has gone on too long. Thanks for reading!

How to find Motivation in Sports Anime
Tumblr media
The human body is a very complex structure, every organ in your body, every ligament and every nerve works to keep us healthy. And like a machine that needs to be oiled and tended to have it last for a long while, our bodies need nutrition in many ways to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
Today, we are going to talk about exercise and how we can gather the motivation to get up and work on our physical health from nothing other than sports anime.
You heard me right!
While watching anime is ironically an activity you will most likely perform while sitting or laying down, let us look together why physical activity is important, how that relates to anime and what to do after striking the match of motivation!
We hear it from everyone around us, especially people who are active themselves and even doctors.
Exercise is good for you! It’s good for your body and mind!
But why is that so?
Well firstly, like the example with the machine suggests, our body responds extremely well to exercise if it is done correctly. In this instance it is always better to start slow and look at what is best for yourself which might differ considering your age, gender or other attributes.
Rigorous and controlled movement of your body makes you sweat, which might be unpleasant at the beginning if you don’t like much exercise, but we can’t really see what’s happening on the inside. As you move more and more, your blood circulates a lot quicker through your body to deploy oxygen into your organs. If you're actually interested in an anime more on that note, here's the link to Makii's Hataraku Saibou post!
With your oxygen levels raised, you’re straying further from the possibilities of heart diseases and even heart attacks. It also helps to lower your blood sugar and insulin levels which is very beneficial for prevention of diabetes or for people who used to smoke, as it prevents withdrawal symptoms more efficiently.
It’s not just the physical aspects of your body that are being mended, but exercise is also an extremely good measure to enhance your mood and mental health. Not to say that sports will solve all of your problems in an instant, but look at it this way; while exercising your body releases chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins in your brain that not only elevate your mood but are also essential for your general well-being. You even exterminate substances that make you feel worse, which is why oten after a workout you tend to feel exhausted but a good kind of exhausted.
Another great factor to include is sleep schedule!
Often enough we are torn between wake and sleep, as we can’t really get our mind to shut off after a long day. After some tough exercise your body will automatically deplete its own energy resources, as it's naturally easier to fall asleep when you’re tired. The longer you have built up your routine of including exercise in your life, the better your sleep schedule will adjust!
If actual units of exercise aren't your style, don't worry! There's a variety of things you can try, even stretching can help a lot in regulating your physical health and is a great way to wind down as you focus on each of your muscles.
Now after all of these facts about exercise which will probably sound a bit dull, how do we incorporate anime into this?
Tumblr media
Do you know that feeling when you watch a new anime and you just want to dive into that world to see it for yourself?
Anime often incorporates a great deal of hype element, keeping us on our toes while watching so we stick with the extremes that are being displayed no matter the genre.
It’s the same with sports anime, right?
Just as much as the shounen protagonist in a fantasy world wants to defeat the villain and save humankind, the drive behind that one athlete to defeat everyone and win his favorite tournament is just as strong! In this case, we can even relate more to the anime character in a sports anime as his world is definitely closer to our real world as well.
Especially since we’re often shown the narrative of the underdog who fights tooth and nail to become the strongest, we can look at ourselves and think “If they can do it, I can too!”.
Of course the reason for the underdog becoming so strong is the intense workload they put on themselves to see quick and amazing results.
Another great thing sports bring are the teams.
In anime those teams can become more than just friends but more than a family, and to see so many different people work together is also a huge motivator.
Our brain immediately sees what can happen after a portion of hard work and that is precisely why we are suddenly so motivated after watching an episode of our current favorite sports anime. We envision ourselves what it could be like to be part of a team, dream or goal that we would do anything for.
Constant challenges and emotional outburst are not only part of the show that is animation, but also exist in real life! People dedicate everything they have into their sport just as much as an anime character might! Or they won't! Sometimes it's all just for the sheer fun of it all, and if the stiff rulings of a team feel more confining to you, be sure that there's those happy go lucky teams everywhere in real-life as well as in anime!
The sheer rivalry between characters that have only their sport in mind is immensely empowering, and therefore a good reason to start your own journey into a new sport whichever kind you might prefer.
Now if you can’t or don’t want to grab onto your next volley- or baseball or catch the next bus to your track field or gym, there’s other ways to blend a bit of healthy exercise into your life!
Hobby teams of most sports are able to be found almost everywhere, but if you have a busy schedule and simply joining a club is too much right now, try to trick yourself into sneaking some exercise into your daily life! You might for example take the stairs instead of taking the elevator all the time, or try to do short span runs or even jumps while doing some other activity! How about leaving essential stuff like food or your water bottle scattered around your place so you'll be forced to walk around to get it?
Try to see it as your personal ‘I have to become the best hero/player/fighter montage’ if the exercises seem dull! Imagine how some of your favorite heroes in anime have done the same so far!
An easy way to motivate yourself is to get friends and family involved! I myself have a hard time getting myself to exercise regularly on my own, but as soon as another person steps in the obligation kicks in and so could your motivation!
Another way that’s a bit less social but just as effective could be to exercise while watching a show you would watch anyway. Or rewatch something old you’ve had in your mind anyways, you could even try an audio book or something else in the background to get you through your reps!
And one more thing to conclude: it is never too late.
Tumblr media
Don’t let yourself be discouraged by people telling you that you can’t do something. Whatever the reason might be, anyone can do anything if they just set their mind to it properly and stick to their goal with discipline.
I’m the last person who would call herself the epitome of discipline, quite the contrary, but there have been people in my life who have always taught me not to give up and stay positive, so I shall give you the same wisdom!
Now let’s go out there and take matters into our own hands! Until the next teatime!
This tea is so good! Wanna share?
-Nissa

only had 3 hours of sleep for 4 days binge watching diamond no ace someone hELP
Tumblr media
i read the manga years ago but didn’t finish due to a bunch of chapters not yet translated at that time, so i started out with season 1
first season, this made me realize how precious bakamura & chris senpai is i want to cry at how chris mentored that loud mouth and brought the sunshine out of his cold eyes T___T ALSO I DIDN'T REMEMBER MIYUKI BEING THAT COOL?? A TOTAL BIAS WRECKER!!! seidou vs inashiro game DID NOT HURT!! AS!! MUCH!! AS!! BEFORE!!! THANK GOODNESS bc i would've clawed my eyes out again if that pain was repeated BUT i'm so glad and content how the third years were still visible in the next season, lessening the frustration i mean that team had such a good relationship my heart still weeps
second season, it was really surprising how seidou turned out to be a better team because the previous one already seemed unbeatable & strong AF i'm so hyped at how harucchi stepped up his game with kuramochi. bakamura's batch also got promoted in the first string and tbh i didn't really had much hope for this new team, only expected the fall tournament to be just like a stepping stone in prep for the summer YOOOO I’M SO DUMB TO ASSUME it really changed the game when the team all decided to win for the coach.. miyuki made me cRAZY with his out of this world clutch batting and to think he’s the captain cleanup catcher what a GENIUS that MIYUKI BOY
third season, THE BEST SEASON SO FAR i can vividly remember all the good episodes, the best moments in the series since this time - the regrets, the joy, the trust, the expectations, and the sincerity in each game literally begged for more, the feeling every time bakamura steps at the mound especially in that last ep, wow, that automatically made me read the manga again! and how the bakamura & furuya rivalry progressed was amazing, the character development between the two - the hard climb to being an ace, it was such a ride. can't help thinking how the author would conclude this summer!! also, the new freshmen have interesting personalities, giving a good start for the new batteries (im so soft for muramura battery) since u know... miyuki is...... AHHH I CAN’T EVEN SAY IT!!
ok i just had to express here idk where else sorry for the long post i really wish more people would watch this anime bc it’s real shounen to the core ;__;

a hero under construction
A.k.a. “yep I really went and tried to defend Bakugou ‘hey there bad decisions, it’s me, ya boi’ Katsuki in BnHA chapter one, if you can believe it. No, I don’t know why I suddenly felt the pressing need to do this either.”
So as you may know from sources such as: This Entire Blog, I like metaing about Bakugou. All sorts of meta! I have talked about Bakugou and Deku. Bakugou and Mitsuki. Bakugou and Determination, and Bakugou and Redemption.
But one thing I have not ever really talked about is Bakugou And That One Time He Told Deku To... You Know. The Thing. Because lol. That was so bad. You guys. Everyone agrees. Fandom doesn’t debate about this. That was a shitty, shitty thing.
And look, I’m not going to debate it either! Not really. But what I will say is that Bakugou Katsuki has always been my favorite BnHA character. Literally from the moment he was introduced. And I don’t feel like I’ve ever really adequately been able to explain why. I don’t gloss over his actions -- or at least I don’t think I do -- but to me those actions also don’t define him. Anyway, out of nowhere I had the sudden impulse to talk about this, so I’m gonna try and take a stab at it. Here goes.
So here’s Bakugou on page one of chapter one:
Tumblr media
oh no baby what is you doing.
And then later on, all grown up! Not really though. But you know, older.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, he really was my favorite right from this moment. Quote:
“YOU ASSHOLE, TWO SENTENCES IN AND I’M ALREADY POSITIVE YOU’RE GOING TO BE MY FUCKING FAVORITE. YOU’RE SECRETLY SENSITIVE AREN’T YOU. WITH A TRAGIC PAST. OR SELF-ESTEEM ISSUES THAT YOU’RE OVERCOMPENSATING FOR. YOU SON OF A BITCH. YOU PIECE OF SHIT”
He absolutely was a piece of shit too, the little fucker.
But anyway, the point is, I knew right away. And it’s not like I just went “OH MY GOD WHAT AN ASSHOLE I LOVE HIM” or anything lol. The thing is, it wasn’t Bakugou himself that I immediately fell in love with on the spot. It was his inevitable redemption arc. That shit was written in the stars from day one. It was inescapable. You do not introduce the main character’s antagonistic childhood friend (you can put air quotes around “friend” if you like), who wants to go to the same school as him and seems to be living a charmed life up until this point with everything going for him, and who is, to be blunt, a Humongous Shithead, and not have a redemption arc planned for him. Some things are just fate, guys. So anyways, yeah, I saw that and I immediately went “oh my god, it’s going to be so good,” and I decided right there and then that the only expedient thing to do was to go ahead and make him my favorite right there, before the proverbial ink had so much as dried.
Like, to put this another way. You know Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban? Specifically the part where Harry explains how he was suddenly able to cast a perfect Patronus charm in order to save Sirius and his own past self? “I knew I could do it this time, because I’d already done it... Does that make sense?” Anyways, you see, what happened here is sorta like that. When I first saw Katsuki, he was not immediately my favorite. But I knew that he would be, because two decades of reading shounen manga has helped give me a sixth sense for honing in on this very specific type of character arc. Rivalries, character development, the works. And pretty much the second I laid eyes on this little shit, I fucking knew he was gonna have that kind of arc. And if he did, he would become my favorite. So I thought I’d save time and make him my favorite right there and then. So I did. And I’ve never regretted it. Basically, I don’t love him because of who he is; I love him for who I have faith that he will become (and in the more recent chapters is, in fact, becoming).
Anyways, now that we’ve established that, just understand that all of this was in the back of my mind the whole time as I went on to read the rest of the chapter, and indeed, the series. So! Katsuki then goes on to brag about how he’s going to be the first AND ONLY!! student from Aldera Jr. High to get into U.A., before he blows up the main character’s desk for absolutely no reason. Which, by the way, their teacher just kind of sat back and let happen. You know, I tend to give the U.A. faculty a lot of grief, but maybe I should ease up on them some. The standards for teaching in this society are really kind of abysmal.
Anyway, so we should probably just fast-forward to The Thing already.
Tumblr media
Oh Deku, honey. Nah that ain’t gonna happen.
So then,
Tumblr media
Like, just in case it wasn’t clear enough before. Katsuki is, in fact, being a big ol’ anus.
And just in case it still wasn’t clear enough!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I know fandom has zeroed in on the scene that takes place one page after this, but truth be told, I feel like this was arguably even crueler than that. If only because he went right for the thing Deku values most. He knows how important those notebooks are to him. This wasn’t just the physical destruction of Deku’s property (which is bad enough); it was also a direct attack on Deku’s aspirations. He’s trying to stomp them out. He specifically stayed after class to torment him just for that purpose.
Anyways, he goes on to reiterate that he’ll be the first and only student from Aldera to go to U.A., and then he tells Deku “don’t you dare get into U.A., nerd.” Which is what this entire scene boils down to, really. Bakugou, despite giving Deku endless grief for being quirkless, and repeatedly telling him he doesn’t stand a chance and needs to face facts, in truth feels threatened enough by Deku applying to U.A. that he goes to all of this effort just to try and scare him off. He doesn’t tell him “you’ll never get in”; he doesn’t even say “don’t try to get in.” It’s specifically, “don’t you dare get in.” Even here, at his very worst, at his most arrogant and cruel and physically violent, we can see hints of the insecurity that’s secretly at the root of this entire thing.
Anyways. And then...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hahaha okay sob so we have finally come to this.
Look. I’m not gonna turn around and start defending this. I absolutely will not. The actions are indefensible. What I will defend, however, is the fourteen-year-old boy who made them. Because he is just that -- a fourteen-year-old boy. In other words, a kid. A very stupid, mean kid, who was old enough to know better. Youth doesn’t excuse everything. But I’m not going to condemn a child for life because of the shitty things they did at age fourteen. Fourteen is a very stupid age. No offense to any teenagers reading this! There are plenty of teenagers who do manage to navigate adolescence without temporarily losing their fucking minds. But I think it’s fair to say that just about everyone makes at least one or two mistakes during that period. Most people wind up with at least a few regrets. Which is honestly a good thing. It’s natural. If you don’t screw up at least once or twice growing up, you don’t get the chance to learn from it.
Anyway, so yeah. That’s my defense. He’s a kid. Maybe to some people it’s a weak defense. And yeah, maybe I’m too forgiving! Again, though, I’m not saying it’s in any way okay. What I am saying is that I don’t believe in one-strike-and-you’re-out. Especially if it’s a child. Yes, some people never change, and they keep on being shitty people for the rest of their lives. But for the most part, people are trying their best. And for kids and teenagers especially, I’m just about always willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and trust them to keep trying to do better. Kids aren’t completed works; they’re still only rough drafts. And this applies to Katsuki as well. He’s still an effort in progress. A hero under construction.
Anyway, though. Basically you either cancel Bakugou after this scene, or you don’t. If you don’t, then let’s go ahead and keep moving forward. So how does Deku react to all of this?
Tumblr media
Honestly, I think this here is a scene that doesn’t always receive its share of consideration. There are two things that stand out to me here. First, that Deku’s reaction to his former friend telling him to jump off a roof is to get frustrated about what a stupid fucking thing that was to say, because Katsuki could get in trouble for it. Never mind that this asshat just burned your notebook and joked about you killing yourself! He’s angry because Katsuki didn’t fucking think for two seconds before saying something which could have potentially had such devastating consequences for him, let alone Izuku.
Just. Okay. So not that this makes it any better, mind! But it is worth pointing out nonetheless, because it’s a definite Thing in fandom for people to sometimes retcon Deku’s reaction to this and make this one incident into The Single Biggest Issue From Their Entire Fucked Up Childhood. Like, I’m talking about those fanfics where it somehow gets out that Hey Guys, One Time Bakugou Told Deku To Kill Himself, and Deku is all angry and tearful about it, and Bakugou is super guilty and Ashamed, and everyone is horrified and there is Fallout and Drama and so forth, and then usually some kind of reconciliation afterwards. Which is nice. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice to have that kind of catharsis. But what I am trying to say is that I think fandom perhaps places more weight on this one particular incident than the canon does. Or the characters, for that matter. Because while Izuku has every right to feel horrified, and Katsuki by all rights should probably be losing a bit of sleep in his guilt over this, the reality in canon seems to be that neither of them ever treated it as that big of a deal. Possibly because it never occurred to either character for even an instant that Izuku might actually go through with it. I honestly don’t think Katsuki would have said it if he’d thought otherwise. Not that that’s an excuse either, because there was no way for him to actually know. But just trying to get into his mindset here, I honestly don’t think it entered his mind that Deku would try it. And clearly Deku never entertained the thought either. So in that regard, Katsuki basically just got very, very lucky.
Moving on to the second of the two things I mentioned, what does hurt Deku more than the go kill yourself implications, I think, are the I literally do not give a shit about you implications that naturally accompany a statement like this. And that, more than anything, is the sentiment I think Katsuki was actually trying to get across. I don’t care about you at all. I have so little regard for you that it wouldn’t bother me if you died. Which of course is equally as terrible a sentiment as the other, if not more so. It’s an exceptionally cruel thing to imply. But it’s what he wanted to express, regardless. Because, again, he has an entire dissertation’s worth of insecurities when it comes to Deku, and as we learn later on, he’s gotten the idea somehow that Deku is purposely mocking him and trying to knock him down a peg. And so this is his retaliation; his way of trying to deal with what in truth is his own self-imposed baggage. Meanwhile Deku is just trying to mind his own business -- contrary to popular belief, I think he has gotten the message by this point that Katsuki doesn’t want him following him around -- but he still refuses to relinquish his own dream of getting into U.A. and becoming a hero, no matter how out of reach it may seem. And so he puts up with the abuse, because he can’t fight back, but he’s not willing to back down, either. Basically things are tense!! And shitty!
Anyway, so that’s pretty much my breakdown of The Thing. This meta isn’t done yet, though! Because obviously no “Bakugou in chapter one” meta would be complete without an analysis of what I'd argue is actually the much more important Thing that also happens in this chapter. Namely, this:
Tumblr media
Hahaha. Welcome to being a character in shounen manga, kid. When that karma train loops back around, it loops hard.
So! Bakugou stomps around some alleyways with his fellow middle school lowlives grumping about how Deku pisses him off. It’s worth noting that he already understands he’s done something wrong, here. His buddies even call him out on it -- “you went too far today” -- and his only argument is that “it’s his fault for messing with me.” He knows he was a shithead. Rather than denying it, he’s already moved on to trying to justify it. Really he’s just got too much pride to admit he went too far. It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s actually one of the reasons he’s so angry in this scene, even. He knows he done fucked up, and that just pisses him off more. Anyway so then he suddenly gets eaten by a giant blob, which. Yeah, this is BnHA. That can sometimes happen.
Let’s go back for a moment and talk more about the “GO KILL YOURSELF” thing! In real life, how would you deal with that situation? Like, imagine that it’s your job to discipline this kid. And assuming also that you work at a school that actually has policies about bullying, rather than teachers who just sit around filing their nails while the kids blow up each other’s desks. But anyways, my guess is it’d probably be some combination of suspension, detention, and/or community service, etc. But here’s the thing -- punishment can only go so far in dealing with the underlying issue. The real goal is to change the behavior. So there should be some measures to address that as well. Mentoring, behavior contracts, counseling, whatever. You don’t want the thing to happen again. You want the pattern of behavior to change.
Anyway, because BnHA society has massive problems which no one seems interested in tackling, this of course doesn’t happen, and Bakugou appears to get away scot free as far as Official Consequences For His Actions. But, because this is shounen manga, and we can’t just let our characters carry on not developing, something does happen instead which fortunately gets the ball rolling toward Redemption in its own unorthodox way. Namely, Katsuki gets eaten by the aforementioned giant blob, and Deku saves him.
That’s right! That Deku! Who, and I cannot stress this enough, bears absolutely no responsibility for Katsuki’s predicament at all, despite what he might think. Deku, whom none of us are worthy of in the slightest. Deku, despite being powerless, despite having no quirk, is the only person to try and do anything at all to save Katsuki, who -- and I can’t stress this enough, either -- is fucking dying. Like, holy shit. How the hell did this whole thing go from zero to fuCKED UP!! in such a short period of time?? just. !!
Anyway, so remember the part earlier where I said like a dozen times in a row, "he’s just a kid”? Yeah, I feel like that bears repeating just one more time.
Tumblr media
Yeaaaaah. Fuck me so hard. Like hell there was ever even a chance of me ever not adopting this toxic fucking shitnugget after this. Just go ahead and fade me now. I know what my weaknesses are, and they are: This. Just, all of this.
Because here’s the thing about Katsuki: he tries to be tough, but he’s not. Not really. Not yet. He’s strong! He’s determined! But he’s still young, and far more fragile then he’d ever want people to think. All of his shitty behavior stems from the fact that he’s much less sure of himself than he puts on. He’s someone who has always been the best, and wants desperately to be THE best, and it also just so happens that he has absolutely no idea what he would do if he wasn’t. If he ever failed. If he wasn’t strong. And he’s scared shitless of it, and every last one of his most despicable actions stems from that fear.
But because he’s so bullheaded, he stubbornly refuses to acknowledge any of this, and persists in applying the only solution to this problem that he can think of: just fucking get stronger, and also CRUSH!!! anyone who dares to get in your way. If you’re afraid of being weak, then just don’t be weak. Don’t you dare. And so he doesn’t. He persists in Being Strong even to his own detriment. Even when it destroys his closest friendship. Even when it reaches the point where he can’t take joy in anything less than total victory. Even when it warps him into someone others see only as a villain. As Uncle Iroh once said, Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source.
So he tries to be tough. And he puts up an incredible fight, honestly. This thing is suffocating him. We know from Deku’s earlier POV just how painful and frightening of an experience it is. But he fights back regardless. He doesn’t give up. But he’s terrified. We can see it, in this scene, in case it wasn’t already apparent. He’s struggling, he can’t breathe, no one is helping him, everyone’s just watching. He’s not strong enough to beat this thing on his own. He’s a child, and he’s dying. Like, fuck, though.
And I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this is probably the first time in his life that Katsuki has ever actually felt helpless. All his life, he’s been afraid of being weak, but he hasn’t ever actually been weak, though. But this, now, is something he’s actually powerless against. For the first time in his life, he’s up against something that not his quirk nor his intelligence nor his sheer stubbornness can get him out of. And the ironic thing is that he’s spent his entire life mocking Deku for being useless and weak. But here, for this one critical moment, the roles are reversed. Katsuki is now the one who is powerless.
And it’s Deku who comes to save him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fucking look at how Horikoshi devotes an entire panel to the notebook flopping down on the ground, though. The same notebook Katsuki burned earlier that day. Because Horikoshi likes to really get in there and make you feel that searing irony deep in your bones.
Tumblr media
Why, indeed. And we already know the answer, of course. No need to delve any deeper into that one again. Deku has many reasons, but truth be told, he only ever needed one.
Tumblr media
That’s it. That’s all the reason he’ll ever need. No further questions asked.
And then All Might springs into action and rescues them both, and the whole dramatic scene ends. With both of my kids intact, much to my relief.
So, to recap! (1) Katsuki burns Deku’s notebook and tells him to off himself, because he’s a fucked-up little turd with a raging case of gifted child syndrome who was not thinking about any of the potential consequences of his actions, and also was just being a straight up jerk. (2) Katsuki then receives a karmic bitchslap in the form of A Giant Sludge Man, Come to Devour Him. And finally (3) Katsuki is saved by none other than the kid he was being a straight up dick to!
So after all of that, I think there’s only one thing we can say, really, and that is: Katsuki did you learn your lesson!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
KATSUKI WHY.
Lol okay, but. In all seriousness, I think it’s pretty clear here that he does realize that Deku just saved his fucking life after he, Katsuki, behaved like a piece of flaming hot garbage to him for eleven years. He understands the implications of that. Otherwise he wouldn’t have chased him down afterwards just to scream at him, “YOU ABSOLUTELY DID NOT SAVE MY LIFE!!” before stomping off to go sulk some more. Like, clearly he gets it. It’s just that his pride won’t let him acknowledge it out loud.
And it would be easy to look at this and say, “smdh, clearly he hasn’t changed a bit even after all of that.” Except that in the very next chapter,
Tumblr media
And it would also be easy to say, “well woopty doo, he’s not actively deriding and bullying Deku anymore, finally, after a dozen years, and all it took was for Deku to save his fucking life. HOLY SHIT HOW ALTRUISTIC OF HIM, WHAT A GENEROUS FUCKING GUY, WE’RE NOT WORTHY, etc. etc.. And okay, yeah. Point made. I get it.
But still. Change is change. He realizes that what he did was wrong, and so he changes the behavior. As trivial a gesture as it might seem in comparison to the LITERAL DECADE OF ABUSE -- it’s still a gesture. It’s the start of something. A sign that he is in fact capable of learning, and that he might not be beyond redemption. And much in the same way that I won’t cancel a fourteen-year-old kid for doing shitty cruel immature fourteen-year-old kid things, I’m also not going to deride someone’s baby steps. Just because he doesn’t transform overnight into Deku’s devoted loyal follower doesn’t mean he’s not changing. It’s a process, is all. But one very much worth supporting and encouraging. Because Bakugou Katsuki plays redemption arcs on hard mode; but in spite of that, as with everything else, he plays to win. And when you’re starting from so low, the only thing you can do is rise.
Deku once said that Bakugou as a child was neither “bad” nor “good”, but that after he got his quirk, “he started down the path towards ‘bad.’” And from there, it took him another eleven years to course-correct and painfully start back on the path towards “good” again. But, crucially, he did. And that, right there, was the hardest part. Once you’re back on course, the only thing you have to do is keep moving forward, and not quit. And if there’s anything Bakugou excels at, it’s that. This one thing, he is very, very good at.
He’s still learning. But this is why we trust in the power of redemption arcs. As the saying that I just made up goes, Once a shithead, not always a shithead. You have to believe in the potential. People don’t write stories about characters who only ever stay exactly where they started from on square one. They just don’t. And Bakugou will not. He has not.
And I for one can’t wait to see the good this kid can do.

OOC - Summary of Moonlight Mist
Overview:
Moonlight Mist is a manga project that Koji Matsuba (Shinobu’s father) started a year after marrying Kotoha Marukichi, though he had been writing notes privately as a hobby since he was in high school.
The story begins with a class of middle schoolers taking a field trip into the nearby Forest of Mystery. While the trip is only supposed to last a day, five students wander away from the class and end up becoming lost in the woods: Aki Akakawa, Yukito Aotani, Haruka Midoriyama, Seitaro Kishima, and Mirabelle Champrose. As night falls, they make camp near a river and hope for rescue to come soon. However, a dense fog descends upon them as they sleep uneasily.
They awaken having been somehow transported to the Myst Continent, a world seemingly taken right out of their fantasies of dragons, elves, and magic. They learn that the land has been in turmoil for centuries. There had been a great war between various powers both mortal and divine, and in the dying breaths of a god the land was cursed. Time now stands still: Day and night never change, leaving different regions in perpetual light or darkness. The seasons have been frozen as well, wreaking havoc on the climate of the continent.
The populace has had centuries to adapt, but tensions still run high as factions fight over resources and territory. The lost students find themselves struggling to stay safe in an unfamiliar land riddled with both overt dangers like bandits and invaders, and more subtle political threats like a king’s iron rule.
But they have one defense against it all: An oracle declares them all the Divine Children foretold in a prophecy by the dying god. In legends passed on through the populace of Myst, it’s believe that heroes born from another world will appear in their land, ushering in an era of justice and mercy. Of course, interpretation of these legends can vary greatly. Some people take the “divine” and “justice” parts very seriously and believe they are demigods smiting the wicked, and some people resent the idea of foreigners upsetting the centuries-long status quo…
The lost children, ambushed by lowly soldiers of the corrupt King Albinus, are protected by the oracle who gives her life up for them. From this sacrifice materializes five jewel-empowered trinkets that awaken the students to magic powers of their own. They transform themselves into the heroes of legend, styling themselves after the heroes in their own stories back home, and fight off the attackers.
The adventure sees the students grappling with the duties that have been thrust upon them so suddenly, while also searching for a way back home. Their morals are often challenged throughout the journey: Is Yukito right when he says that their priority should be getting back to their world safely, or is Aki right in saying they should take long detours on errands and missions? Can Mirabelle give up a life of luxury living among dragons, do the right thing, and go back to save her classmates? Is there a way to make everyone happy when addressing centuries of multilayered strife between different people? And is everyone truly bound by the destiny assigned to them?
Several arcs in, there have been some major shake-ups in the story. First, Aki, Haruka, and their companion guide Kuromura manage to find a way back to Earth after a grand battle, but are separated from the rest of the party, with Yukito forced to take up leadership of the other group. Worse still, they find out that the fantastic creatures and people of Myst have also found their way to Earth and show every indication of wanting to conquer this land, too. Magic and mundane are now in war with each other, and the students find themselves fighting to be the saviors of two worlds.
After everyone is reunited, they learn of a royal commander who is actually a human girl from their world. In fact, she is the long-lost cousin of one of their own. Kikyo finds herself owing a life debt to Seitaro after he rescues her during a disaster, and this begins her own arc as her loyalties slowly begin changing. Ultimately, Kikyo joins the heroes as their sixth party member, and they stand united against her former king.
Currently, the story is in the middle of an arc that examines the heavy weight laying upon child heroes. They face scorn from people who see them as mere foolish children, or who hold them to the same responsibilities as hardened adult veterans. They’ve been so far away from their normal support networks that they don’t know what to do as normal teenage problems begin creeping up on them. And there are hints of strife between the students themselves: Kikyo has not been fully forgiven by everyone for the crimes she committed under the king’s orders, and Yukito is asserting himself as a more capable leader than Aki.
With the king now personally invested in seeing their entire group eradicated thanks to Kikyo’s betrayal, what will it take for these lost children to endure the trials ahead…?

Characters:
Aki Akakawa: The primary protagonist of the story. Like many shounen hero, he’s impulsive, hotheaded, and stubborn, yet ultimately brave even in the face of the highest odds. He is gifted a ruby pendant infused with a magical power that lets him become The Hero Crimson, who is designed after the typical warrior class in RPGs.
Yukito Aotani: A cold and aloof classmate that Aki has formed a sort of rivalry with. While in school it began as somewhat friendly competition over test scores (Yukito always won in everything except sports), the dire threats of their adventure brings their personality conflicts to the forefront, putting their friendship on the edge. With his sapphire bracelet, he becomes The Archer Indigo, filling out the ranger archetype, right down to having animal companions he seems to like better than people.
Haruka Midoriyama: Aki’s childhood friend. They used to be inseparable, but middle school saw them being sorted into different homerooms; Haruka’s time off was further devoted into her track team, and as a result they’ve started drifting apart. She is just as boisterous as Aki, but it comes tempered with her attempts to nurture her peers – whether they want her help or not. Her emerald ring lets her transform into The Thief Verdant, a dashing and nimble rogue. And, yes, her name is a reference to the Midoriyama of Sasuke fame, though this isn’t directly acknowledged in-universe.
Seitaro Kishima: One of Haruka’s classmates from her homeroom, who is a shy nerd with a lot of anxiety about being outside or in the middle of crowds. With his topaz brooch he becomes The Wizard Gold, keeping a safe distance from danger as he used mage powers to rain havoc upon foes. In recent issues, Seitaro has begun the reasons behind his anxieties, from the tragic disappearances of his relatives to his growing discomfort with the changes adolescence brings.
Mirabelle Champrose: An exchange student that’s quite popular in Aki’s year… among anyone that isn’t Aki himself. Or Yukito or Haruka or Seitaro. Mirabelle’s charming elegance goes hand-in-hand with a fussiness and an unwillingness to do physical labor, something that becomes a frequent problem during their adventure. Despite it all, she truly cares about the people around her and slowly learns how to get along with them, and as The Priestess Rose she dutifully heals their wounds, even when they’re feuding. She still fawns over the garnet earrings that empower her, though – girl’s gotta have her jewelry!
Kuromura: A fox-like creature that the oracle cared for as a stray animal. Despite that, Kuromura is very much sapient and can talk out loud, serving as a guide, a mentor, and a voice of reason as the students try to find their way through this unfamiliar world. Curiously, Kuromura has a black opal set into their head, but they cannot remember ever being able to cast magic…
Albinus Frost IV: The king of the Frostbitten Crown who continues his family’s bid to expand influence over all the land. Safely entrenched in the bitter-cold mountains to the north, he sends armies out to conquer their neighbors, steadily taking over town after town. Though he claims to be doing this all for the good of the citizens, refugees fleeing from the towns he takes say that he imposes strict control on them all, keeping villages under martial law as his guard closely monitor financial spending, food rations, and communications with other towns. Woe betide those who are vocal about their displeasure; reports suggest many dissidents have disappeared without a trace.
The Diva: First seen clad in full armor, the Diva is a commander of Albinus’s armies, using her music to enchant soldiers with strength and bravery. In time she is revealed to actually be a young human girl, and even later her true identity is revealed to be Kikyo Shimori, a cousin of Seitaro’s who went missing with her family eleven years ago during a hiking trip. In reality they accidentally wandered into the mist world, and Kikyo was somehow separated from her parents (who she assumes are dead) and raised instead as a bard-slash-spy for the Frostbitten Crown. After an arc in which Kikyo’s loyalties are called into question, she finally defects from Albinus and puts herself at great risk saving Seitaro’s life from his generals, resulting in the amethyst circlet materializing before her. With this, Kikyo awakens to her power as the Diva Violet, and thus proves herself a true ally of the team.

Trivia:
The most popular ships in the fandom are Aki x Haruka, Aki x Yukito, Yukito x Mirabelle, and Yukito x Kikyo. There is also significant support for Aki x Kikyo, Haruka x Mirabelle, and Seitaro x Mirabelle.
Shinobu happens to have a few advance spoilers in regards to canon ships: Aki x Yukito is endgame! The original intention was to make Aki x Haruka canon, but over the years both the in-character dynamics and Koji’s own feelings about his work have changed.
Shinobu also knows that future issues will, over time, make it clear that Seitaro is definitely not cis and is likely nonbinary. Koji started writing this arc as a way to try and connect with Shinobu, especially during some of the rockier month of their relationship when Shinobu was questioning if his parents even cared about what he wanted in life. At times he acts as a sort of consultant, helping his father understand what Seitaro might be feeling right now.
Haruka is another character based closely off Shinobu. At the beginning of the story she symbolized Shinobu the ace athlete: Always determined, always energetic, always ready to give 100% in any situation. As the reality of Shinobu’s life became clear to Koji, he’s since taken a more nuanced writing with Haruka, acknowledging the constant pressure that she faces as both and athlete and as the caretaker of the group. Much of her arc now is her and her teammates learning to accept that just because she’s their emotional pillar doesn’t mean that she’s invincible, and that’s okay.
An anime adaptation of the manga is in progress, and is currently in the earliest arcs, before the temporary group split.

Manga artists Munakata and Mikoto and their feuding assistants Fushimi and Yata.
Yessss I like this. So imagine they are both super popular mangaartists who are always jostling for the top seller spot, like oneweek Munakata is top and next Mikoto is and it’s this huge rivalryeven between their fans. Somehow the two of them are always beingcompared even though they have completely different styles andgenres, like Mikoto writes an action-packed shounen jump stylefighting manga and Munakata writes a popular shoujo romance (if hehas a weakness in his drawing style it’s that it looks more like oneof those old-school style shoujo series were everyone has very shinyeyes and he overuses the sparkle screentones. The story is sogripping that he has a ton of readers anyway). The two of them alsohappen to rent the same studio and live in the same apartment whichmeans they are constantly running into each other and having tointeract, to say nothing of various events and interviews. Munakatalikes to make pointed comments about the complexity of his story andhow he has the next 1000 chapters planned out, all of his interviewsinvolve him dropping hints so subtle that there are tons of forumsjust filled with people trying to decode his words. Mikoto meanwhilewhen asked what’s going to happen next in his manga will just shrugand be like ‘dunno’ because he makes shit up as he goes along andit’s fine.
The two of them do have several assistants of course – Mikoto needsassistants, otherwise he’d never have time for sleeping on the couchwhen he’s got a deadline (OMG Mikoto totally has the Miura/Togashistyle 'one chapter and then TIME FOR A SIX MONTH HIATUS’ thinggoing on because he’s tired and needs a break. Munakata has releaseda chapter every week save holidays for years and never taken even somuch as week off). Yata is a young aspiring manga artist who looks upto Mikoto a lot, like he owns every volume of Mikoto’s first lesspopular series which was canceled halfway through and never finished.Fushimi is also an aspiring artist, the two of them meet in middleschool and make like their own manga called 'Small World’ which theyonly share with the two of them. They both manage to get hired to beMikoto’s assistants but Fushimi quickly finds himself having issues,Mikoto’s art style is very detailed and full of action lines andmeticulously choreographed fight scenes and Fushimi’s art style leanstowards clean and static, less action lines and more gorgeouslyarranged single panels and expressions. Plus on top of that Yata’sstopped having time to work on their manga and only talks aboutMikoto’s instead and how lucky they are to get to work on it. Finallywhen Munakata offers Fushimi a job Fushimi takes it, breaking thingsoff with Yata and destroying their art supplies in front of him(“There go your Prismacolors, Misaki”).
So not only is there a rivalry going on between Munakata and Mikotobut Yata and Fushimi are at odds too, and of course they always runinto each other because they work in adjoining studios. Sometimesthey’ll run into each other while bringing the new pages to thepublisher and they both argue over whose new chapter is the best,Fushimi’s always mocking Yata for only being able to draw boneheadedmanga about friendship and heroes while Yata thinks Fushimi can onlywork on frilly girls’ manga even though he maybe has been known toread it on the side sometimes just once okay his mom likes it shutup. Ooh and imagine both Munakata and Mikoto working Yata andFushimi’s issues into their comics, like one of the girls inMunakata’s comic betrays her best friend because she’s afraid oflosing her and tries to make the friend hate her but really she’svery lonely and feeling forgotten. Meanwhile one of the heroes inMikoto’s manga is betrayed by his partner and wants to hate him butcan’t stop wanting to know why he left and desperately wants him tocome back. Fushimi and Yata continue to work on the pages completelyunaware of the fact that Munakata and Mikoto are writing about themand meanwhile the fans are loving it and shipping it and writingletters begging for the two friends to reconcile. Munakata makesFushimi read the letters to him, Yata reads Mikoto’s letters becauseMikoto doesn’t have time for that he has sleeping to do.

Bittersweet Misfortune
The parents -
Who first brought up having/adopting kids?
Kesil. He’d admit some time while he was dating Veritas how he dreamed of having his own family one day. Although he admits that with the circumstances of his life that it may never happen. Boooooooooy, I have some news for you.
Which parent is most overprotective?
Veritas. She is so worried over her kids. She’s worried period. She is still afraid from when she lost Lectum and her parents left her. Losing anyone is her fear and because of her and Kesil’s professions as well as Kesil’s blood, the danger is present. Of course, she doesn’t blame Kesil for it but it does make Veritas have to consider plans with the twins carefully and back up plans to be a thing.
Which parent is most supportive?
Both? Kesil and Veritas were determined to be better than their parents. How? They didn’t really know but it started to roll around when twins started getting old enough voice wanting things. At first they were their usual selves and made the kids cry. So they tried. Tried to figure out how to be supportive towards what their kids wanted without bringing the harshness they just naturally have.
Which parent expects the most from their child?
Neither? Veritas just wants the kids to grow up happy and not causing too much terror to where they are. Kesil wants the kid to do what they want to do with themselves since he never had that choice.
Which parent is more likely to spoil their child?
Neither. They’re learning parenting not pushovers. They know hard love and maintaining a fairness towards their kids.
Which parent does the child go to to get their way?
Depends on what child you’re asking. If it’s Roza, she’ll run to Kesil as his mindset is usually on board with hers. If it’s Blair, he’ll got to Veritas as he usually can explain his reasoning in a way that makes sense to her. And if we include Magnus, he’ll go to Veritas too since Kesil admits that Magnus’ personality can reflect some kids he had a ‘rivalry’ with, never good for negotiation.
Which parent is the best at singing lullabies?
Veritas. Kesil is okay at singing. He isn’t terrible, he isn’t godly at it. However, he finds Veritas has the better singing voice so lets her do it. Although these can be hums sometimes.
Which parent finds it harder to let go?
Veritas. As explained with her fear, she doesn’t want to let them go. She doesn’t know what would happen to them and she won’t be there to protect them. It is terrifying but she knows she has to let go eventually or the kids–especially with Roza–might come to resent her reluctance.
The kid -
What the kids name is and the meaning behind it.
Roza - Rose, named because her face was a rosy color when she was born.
Blair - Plain, field, battlefield. It was an arbitrary name that Kesil liked although he joked about where he got it from to Veritas once.
Magnus - Great. Also an arbitrary name that both Veritas and Kesil thought sounded alright. Kesil doesn’t know but it was one that was ‘suggested’ to him in his head.
What traits the kid has that doesn’t reflect their parents.
Roza - Empathy because of her foresight ability, she feels others whereas her parents either lack or have killed that trait for their jobs.
Blair - Sense of duty as his parents never had to commit to anything they didn’t seriously want to do. Because of the type of power he possesses as well as the clash between his elven and vampiric blood, he feels he needs to get a grip. Or others, not just his family will be in trouble.
Magnus - Almost everything about him. He’s well-mannered and polite and it throws his parents in a loop because they’re kinda assholes (both purposely and accidentally). He also seems to fit in with people…even those in high society well, which neither know HOW he learned it since they dislike them for various reasons.
What the kids favorite clothing style is.
Roza - Whatever’s comfortable
Blair - Hipster af
Magnus - Dressy casual
What their favorite cartoon is.
Roza’s favorite cartoon would probably be any shounen anime that happened to actually make it overseas. Action-packed and taking down baddies, she’s all in for it. Blair couldn’t name any that particularly stuck out to him. They all were interesting but none that really popped out to him. Magnus actually probably liked the most horror/mystery like cartoon he could feasibly watch without crossing into more adult content.
What skills their parents try to pass down to them.
Both Veritas and Kesil taught the kids how to fight and how to at least handle and disarm the weapons they knew. Not necessarily for the kids to abuse the knowledge (although they have) but because they never know where enemies lurk.
What their future might be.
I can see Roza actually willingly going into the bounty hunter business. She enjoys it, more or less, but doesn’t want to be hired just to kill like the freelancer biz might do to her. Blair would probably take on a normal life, like his parents kinda hoped they’d go down. Probably go through schooling and find something he likes. Magnus would be something inbetween his siblings as he would more than likely end up in the Realms Security Bureau (the same that Samir works for) as an agent that specializes in diplomacy.
The family -
Who the child’s godparents are.
From Veritas’ side, most likely not. She doesn’t seem to have that many companions. From Kesil would probably be his rival/friend, Ishiguro Kooji, a scion to a powerful family in Japan.
Do their parents plan on giving them any siblings?
Well in some cases, Veritas and Kesil surprised the twins with Magnus soooo. But no, they never planned on giving more siblings.
What is the child’s first pet?
Blitz. She was a dog that Kesil eventually convinced Veritas to allow the kids to have. She loved the twins but was a terror around the house. It tended to take anything left out and made a mess of it. Kesil couldn’t fall asleep planning in the living room anymore but at least the kids have a faithful companion, I guess?
How do they get along with any extended family members?
They love to get visits from ‘uncle Arty’, particularly because he put up with the kids’ antics much easier than their parents did. They know of their grandparents but do not visit them often. Even when they do, the kids act a lot more reserved around them. The exception is Lyudmila and Isamu, who end up watching the kids if Veritas and Kesil had no choice.
Can a Fire Bird Love a Broken Bird
The parents -
Who first brought up having/adopting kids?
Neither, actually. Noita is terrified at the thought of a family that isn’t like the one she has with her boys. She doesn’t think she CAN be a capable parent and thus would never think to bring it up. Amara secretly wants to have a family of his own. Root being secretly. Because he is a phoenix, he is somewhat afraid to have a family because what if he dies before he ever raised the child? Not risking it.
Which parent is most overprotective?
Both? Amara doesn’t care about his safety but when it comes to his little birds? All bets are off. He tends to get concerned by Noita’s lack of concern towards taking the kids on dangerous ventures. However, that’s not to say she doesn’t care, just that her concern would focus on the wider scale, usually the situation being the Rose, anti-magic coalition that’d take her kids and either imprison or kill them.
Which parent is most supportive?
Both. As pointed to in the thread where Taika and Selim visit their parents before ever dating, they both say that Amara and Noita are supportive of them. They are encouraged to pursue what interests them and even if neither have any expertise in the field, they’d search for someone to show their children what they’re fascinated by.
Which parent expects the most from their child?
Neither. Overall, Noita and Amara are pretty chill parents, letting the birds fly their own paths with them watching from a safe distance.
Which parent is more likely to spoil their child?
Amara. That’s not even a question. He’s never gotten to have a family (one he remembers at least) and so having one with Noita is so important to him. He’s excited for every bit of parenthood and pours so much attention into the kids. And he is unashamed of spoiling them.
Which parent does the child go to to get their way?
Amara. Both because he’d actually spoil them and because Noita is difficult to debate with.
Which parent is the best at singing lullabies?
Both. They serenade the children to sleep and I doubt the kids will find any other singers the same as their parents. And from their time traveling, their parents have learned a lot of songs…probably enough that they could go a year without singing the same song twice.
Which parent finds it harder to let go?
Surprisingly, Noita. She will let them go when it comes time but on the inside, she’s torn up about. While she’s seen so many good things alongside Amara as well as adventuring, she knows that there’s a lot of wickedness and she can only be there whenever the kids tell her or she finds out.
The kid -
What the kids name is and the meaning behind it.
Taika - Magic. She was named because magic personally is such a life changing and wonderful thing in Noita’s life…much like Taika was when she was born.
Selim - Undamaged or ‘to be safe’. He was named as the name just came to Amara’s mind, not really knowing it’s an Egyptian name and thus one he’d probably come across before.
Emrys - Immortal or immortal one. …well, he is a phoenix. Although, it was supposed to go with the Amara’s name meaning ‘unfading’ or ‘eternal.’
What traits the kid has that doesn’t reflect their parents.
Taika - Lack of ‘estranging’ air. Noita always pushed people away so that’s nothing new. Amara I saw as being friendly and all that but always having this slight ‘lonely’ air about him. Taika lacks both of these.
Selim - His inner spazzing. It is much like how Marinette from ML would be but neither of his parents have it? They’re either too level-headed or naturally calm to have it.
Emrys - Lack of wanderlust. It’s not that he doesn’t like traveling but he’s not as into running around everywhere and that free spirit sort of thing like his family tends to be.
What the kids favorite clothing style is.
All of the kids favor functional clothes although both Taika and Emrys prefer warm colors compared to Selim who likes darker colors.
What their favorite cartoon is.
If this were a modern au, I would say that Taika like all girl team shows like Totally Spies. Selim probably skipped cartoons and watched cooking shows. Emrys probably liked the most visually strange series for some reason.
What skills their parents try to pass down to them.
Noita teaches them how to fight since that’s always a useful skill in her eyes. However, both she and Amara teach the kids how to survive on the land and figuring out how to find civilization too.
What their future might be.
Never thought about it and not sure what they’d end up doing. Selim being the exception. I always saw ‘Rune’ becoming an outlaw...although nearly everyone knows that Noita is Rune so the king just made that for formalities. However, the name Rune became synonymous with those that wished to be a masked/cloaked vigilante. Selim has used this on occasion and Amara knows it.
The family -
Who the child’s godparents are.
Tannim is probably the only named godparent that any of Amara and Noita’s kids have although the boys in general take care of them.
Do their parents plan on giving them any siblings?
Depends on which setting with go with. Selim could be the only child. Taika and Selim could be the only kids, with Selim being the younger sibling. Emrys could be a last addition. In all more than one cases, no they hadn’t planed to give any siblings.
What is the child’s first pet?
Tempest. A pipe fox that was gifted to the kids from Lady Vadoma. She comments that it is cuter and more powerful than the ‘mutt’ Noita used to have, referring to her ‘pet’ ferret, Leftpaw. It is closest to Selim because of his spiritual power.
How do they get along with any extended family members?
What family? The kids only know of Noita and Amara’s friends as their family. Noita doesn’t mention her family outside of her deceased brother and grandfather so they probably would never recognize any other family. Amara obviously doesn’t know his family. However, if they ever met Khepri, they’d be taken by her because they’d never met another of their kind that wasn’t family. She’s so good to them too.

BnHA Chapter 121: New Semester
Previously on BnHA: After an intense shounen throwdown, Kacchan emerged victorious. Then All Might showed up and revealed he had been spying on them. He explained to Katsuki why he chose Deku to inherit his quirk, and told him what happened at Kamino wasn’t Katsuki’s fault. Then he gave him a mini hug, no big deal, I didn’t cry or anything. Anyway, he told Deku and Katsuki that heroes need to have Katsuki’s strength and Deku’s spirit both. And he told them that if they could recognize each other and raise each other up, they would both become the best heroes. At this point that was more than good enough for me, but then to cap it all off, Kacchan was officially inducted into the Club of People Who Know Deku’s Secret, and the circle of trust was expanded. Ugh, this whole little mini-arc has been incredible. Where do we even go from here.
Today on BnHA: All Might lets Kacchan in on The Whole Deal with All for One and all that stuff. Kacchan and Deku become Official Rivals™. Aizawa grounds them and sends them off to bed. The next morning the rest of class 1-A (i.e. the actual good kids who don’t cause trouble and don’t sneak out to beat the living shit out of each other in the middle of the night) heads off to the opening ceremony for the new term. Kacchan and Deku have an actual conversation with no shouting and no crying and no one is getting punched or dying or whatnot! It’s less than ten sentences long but MY GOD PEOPLE IT’S A START. Class 1-B shows up for two seconds to remind everyone that they still exist. Rat Principal gives a long and boring speech and mentions the word “successors” exactly once. All Might is all, “successors, eh?” and has a flashback to when he was first hired by U.A. prior to meeting Deku, and Rat Principal was all “hey we got someone for you here.” WHO COULD THIS MYSTERIOUS PERSON BE.
(As always, all comments not marked with an ETA are my unspoiled reactions from my first readthrough of this chapter. I’ve read up through chapter 151 now, so any ETAs will reflect that.)
I wonder if I’m emotionally prepared to continue this shit. well here goes
haHA WE’RE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SCENE OMG. IT’S STILL GOING. SURE, WHY NOT. I LOVE IT, LET’S CONTINUE
All Might says he’s sorry Bakugou ended up learning his secret. not in a “why does this asshole know” way, but in a “that’s a huge burden to have been carrying” way
so basically All Might understands how heavy that was for him along with everything else, so he’s apologizing
Kacchan says it’s no big and it’s too risky to tell anyone else anyway. yeah no shit
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
HE’S GETTING THE SAME TREATMENT AS DEKU. THE FULL STORY ABOUT ALL MIGHT AND ALL FOR ONE
which, yeah. seeing as Kacchan actually met All for One face-to-face, he knows about that part of it even more intimately than Deku
and also if he understands the whole thing and knows how long it’s been going on, it might ease some of his lingering guilt just a bit more. because All Might’s right, it really was something that was going to happen eventually no matter what
you guys I’m just really enjoying Kacchan being part of the inner circle so much. this means he gets to be in on all important plot-related things from here on out. because you can’t very well trust him with this and then not keep him in the loop moving forward
(ETA: although I’d like them to do a better job of this! granted I’m still like 60 chapters behind, so they might have caught him up on the specific thing I’m thinking of by this point. but if not, I’m officially launching Keep Kacchan in the Loop 2019 dammit. who do I need to get in touch with. what’s Horikoshi’s email)
anyway, obviously they’re not showing the whole scene because IT WOULD TAKE SO MUCH TIME!! but please show me Kacchan’s reaction now
okay good they’re showing it
lol now that he knows, he’s even more annoyed that Deku went and blabbed to him on their second fucking day of school lmao
(ETA: to be fair, it’s only because he went and challenged Deku and practically blew him up and then had a meltdown after. on their second day. and now we have this shit happening at the start of their second term. they still have two more terms and then two more years of this. will they survive?? will we survive?! stay tuned!!)
and All Might’s telling Kacchan again -- because yeah, he already did, but this is important for him to understand -- that it wasn’t his fault
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and obviously words alone can’t make that kind of feeling go away completely. but he understands it in full now and knows the whole story, and to hear All Might tell him so firmly should help a lot
and now there’s a character development moment happening! no big. it’s just Bakugou having possibly the single most important and defining moment in his life which is going to change his entire course from here on out haha. it’s cool. I’m cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ETA: even higher. implying that Deku is now the one to beat. the goal post. the watermark. just casually acknowledging it. “chosen one.” no bitterness, no jealousy, and no underestimating him or chalking him down as not worthy either. even as he declares that he’s going to surpass him, he simultaneously recognizes that Deku is still going to be right up there with him at the top. of course. he’s the one All Might chose. how could he not be.
yeah, don’t mind me. I’m just gonna bask in this moment for just a sec. I fucking love rivals, guys. I really, really do.)
how fucking great is this. how fucking perfect is this. they hashed everything out and it didn’t wreck their dynamic or make it stale or boring. on the contrary, it now has more potential than ever before. they’re still rivals. they’ll still push themselves to become better while setting each other as the benchmark. and thus pushing each other to become better as well. but the confusion and hostility and resentment is gone. this is healthy rivalry. they’re not going to all of a sudden become buddy-buddy, but they understand each other now, and there’s a balance there that was missing before
Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOU SEE, THEY CAN STILL SQUABBLE AND ANNOY EACH OTHER. but it’s so much purer now
Tumblr media
THANK YOU ALL MIGHT. THE REAL MVP
can I just say, in hindsight, Kacchan’s emotions were going to come bursting out of him at some point no matter what. you could see during the fight how hard he was struggling to control them and to clamp back down on them, but he kept losing that battle and breaking down. but All Might is the reason he and Deku were able to resolve things so calmly and healthily in the end. he took full advantage of the fact that they both respect him so much lol. he’s such a good dad and I want him to take both of these kids out for ice cream
-- oh my god
speaking of good dads
well actually this one’s more of a mom
Tumblr media
children you’ve interrupted this man’s beauty sleep and I’m afraid you must pay
also
Tumblr media
can we just stop and appreciate it for a little bit. why does his hair look better in his off hours than it fucking does at work, honestly. were you just bored and wanting a change of pace. I guess it doesn’t really matter does it
does Aizawa’s ponytail have a fanclub you guys. asking for a friend
All Might’s telling him to hold up a sec and that it was his fault! wow taking one for the team
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also can we take another moment and appreciate how fucking cute lil Deku and Kacchan are, being sat down and scolded like the troublemakers they are
now we’re having a quick flashback to All Might meeting Aizawa outside
Aizawa’s telling him about the fight, and All Might is all “I think I know what’s going on, can you leave it to me?”
and yes, just a reminder that even though Aizawa always seems to know everything, and even though he’s a trustworthy guy, he doesn’t actually know about One for All (even though I’d argue that he should, since Deku is his student too)
so now he’s confused and asking what this has to do with All Might, and
Tumblr media
I fucking love so much that Kacchan gets to be a part of these moments now omfg
good thing All Might is a smooth fucking operator
Tumblr media
fucking look at this master at work, though? he sticks to the truth enough to keep the whole thing plausible, and manages to let Aizawa in on the fact that Bakugou’s mental health has been shaky lately, so now he knows about it too and can be on the alert for it if it becomes an issue again. and he even helps make it so the boys will hopefully be in less trouble
so Aizawa looks a bit more understanding now (but like. still Aizawa though), but he says “nonetheless, rules are rules” and that he’ll dole out an appropriate punishment
fifty points from Gryffindor. but at least he won’t fucking expel them lol
Tumblr media
who do you fucking think
Kacchan’s owning up to it because he’s a good, honest boy who owns up to his shit and doesn’t try to weasel out
and Deku is also just such a good fucking kid because he immediately adds that he fought back. yeah, after about a whole chapter’s worth of Kacchan diving at you trying to blow you up, and only after he broke down and started fucking crying and you realized it was a therapy fight
anyways. so they’re grounded
Tumblr media
TWELVE YEARS DUNGEON. EVERYONE, DUNGEON. SEVEN YEARS, NO TRIALS
lmao this is why he’s the mom. the strict disciplinarian these kids fucking need
I want to read Bakugou’s written statement of regret so bad
(ETA: I imagine it being a single page with giant font containing only two words: “I REGRET.” he feels it’s sufficient. Aizawa just stares for a moment after Kacchan hands it to him. and then he just shrugs and he’s like, “eh. okay.”)
Aizawa’s also yelling at them to go to the infirmary if they need to. because yeah they beat the living fuck out of each other. Bakugou’s face got folded in on itself, and he slammed Deku into the concrete from like three stories up lmao
buuut, he says to “heal your selfish injuries by yourselves” and not to bother Recovery Girl. yeah as if they want to be chewed out by anyone else tonight
Tumblr media
what are you going to do with these kids I swear. omgggg I love this
so now it’s morning and news spreads fast
Tumblr media
lollll I love it!! so much!! the best!
Tumblr media
GIRL YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW. IT WAS A WHOLE THING. BUT LONG STORY SHORT, YES
Deku says... it’s hard to put into words. ffff
now Iida’s telling them off. because he also thinks he is their dad. poor BakuDeku dealing with dads scolding them left and right
Shouto’s asking Bakugou what he’s going to do about the provisional license supplementary lessons and Bakugou says it’s none of his business. sorry for caring
but really Shouto don’t worry. he just likes to go about his character development the hard way is all
so now everyone’s leaving
AND WE’RE STICKING WITH THESE GUYS
Tumblr media
I have no idea what’s going to happen but I’m loving it so much
BAKUGOU IS INITIATING CONVERSATION!?!?!?!
(ETA: nope, Mangastream got it wrong. it should be Deku asking Kacchan what he thought of his shoot style. I would have just posted FA’s scan here instead, but then my reaction wouldn’t have made sense)
Tumblr media
NO I DON’T KNOW, WHAT ABOUT HIS SHOOT STYLE
there’s a really long pause, which it turns out it just Bakugou not knowing how to do this without being awkward about it
Tumblr media
nothing to see here, just Bakugou fucking Katsuki giving free advice to his rivalfriend Deku because they have a healthy rival relationship. just a little thing we like to call Character Development. it’s how we do things here in BnHA. we develop our fucking characters
so Deku’s asking him about it, and Kacchan’s like, ‘how can I make sure this is still surly’
Tumblr media
heeeeee
:))))
(ETA: and now I am going to post the correct translation though because I love this part.
Tumblr media
:))))))))))))
I now have a headcanon of Kacchan following through on his vow to adopt Deku’s “observe everyone else and learn from them in order to get stronger” philosophy by starting his own stalker notebook (in secret. obviously. no one can ever know). because if it works for Deku then he should at least try it, goddammit. only his notebook doesn’t work at all because his observations mostly consist of things like “fuck this asshole” and “her quirk is such bullshit” and “when he punches it pisses me off.” one day the others find it and they’re just like “holy shit Bakugou I can’t believe you have a burn book.”)
Tumblr media
I expect we’re going to see a lot of the back of Bakugou’s head during these moments in the future lol. I don’t mind. LET HIM KEEP HIS DIGNITY
so now we’re cutting to U.A.
they’re heading to one of the training grounds and Iida is telling everyone to move swiftly and DON’T BREAK THE LINE!!!
Tumblr media
IIDA FUCKING TENYA YOU’RE A PEACH
(ETA: he wakes up at night in a cold sweat thinking about this)
ah, interesting. Ochako says Aizawa wasn’t at the entrance ceremony either
(ETA: so far this doesn’t seem to be plot related that I can recall, so I’m going to assume he just wanted to skip out on the boring speeches and have a nap instead)
here comes Monoma. I was wondering when he would hear this news
Tumblr media
what are the odds he failed his own damn self
lol Kirishima’s asking the same thing
but Monoma’s laughing
oh snap
Tumblr media
oh yeah!? well! our kids had character development! so
lmao Todoroki can’t handle the shame
Tumblr media
HE’S LET YOU ALL DOWN
oh my god finally it’s that pony girl from before! I definitely looked at those bonus pages too soon lol
she has a weird accent. it’s cause she’s American, I remember that from her bio
anyway she says that their two classes will have a class together during second semester. like a one-time thing? or like a regular class. because that’ll be nuts
(ETA: I think that maybe this is either happening right now in the manga or just wrapped up, because I feel like there was a lot of class B stuff making the rounds on tumblr over the past couple of months)
Monoma’s whispering something to her
omg
Tumblr media
NO DON’T STOP. TEACH HER MORE
oh shit look who it is!!!
Tumblr media
Sero says he seems a little “rougher” now. does he? idk
he should have been put in the hero course after the sports festival. and since they’re showing him again and it’s the start of a new semester, can I dare to hope that they’re about to rectify that?
so all the students are lined up for the opening ceremony, and the Rat Principal (whose name I finally memorized in spite of my best efforts. but to me he’ll always still be Rat Principal, so there, Nezu) is waving at everyone
he’s rambling on about how everyone needs proper sleep. wow what a captivating speech
Tumblr media
this is followed by a page of All Might and Thirteen, which I’m going to post because it does a great job of showing something I was trying not to get too excited about during the BakuDeku fight
Tumblr media
namely, the fact that All Might has finally, FINALLY started wearing clothes that actually fit him omgggg
and the fitted shirt/vest/rolled-up sleeves combo looks damn good on him, I gotta say
anyway, so yet again an authority figure is lecturing everyone about the effects of All Might’s absence and how they’re going to face great difficulties moving forward
honestly, by this point they fucking get it. we all get it. shit’s tough
he’s mentioning hero internships that the second and third-year students are engaged in, and I figured it was just more of the same that the first-years did in the previous semester. but Mina and Tsuyu are whispering to each other, and it seems like they don’t know what this is about, so that’s interesting. maybe they do longer internships in the second and third years since they have their provisional licenses by that point
Rat Principal is still talking. I’ll just post the rest of the speech so I don’t have to paraphrase it
Tumblr media
yes, everyone is very invested in making sure the new generation of heroes is prepared for the new post-All Might society. it’s great, but we covered this exact same thing less than ten chapters ago at the end of the provisional exam arc. so this is kind of a retread now
now RP is finally stepping down from the podium and bragging about how he kept thing short and sweet. ahaha. funny. jokes
and All Might is reflecting on RP’s use of the word “successors”
and remembering what Bakugou said to Deku the previous night
Tumblr media
and he’s flashing back to, I guess, his job interview with RP when he agreed to come teach at U.A.
flashback!RP is sliding a piece of paper toward All Might
Tumblr media
and now All Might’s thinking that U.A. used to contact him every once in a while regarding his search for a successor
oh my god
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m almost positive that this is the guy with wings that I’ve seen in fanart and shit. oh my god
(ETA: lmao it is not. however, now I’m for reals almost positive that I’ve been spoiled on who the wings guy is, which was bound to happen since it’s been two and a half months since I read this chapter, and I’ve only gotten 30 chapters further in that entire time. and also because once I caught up with the anime I gave in and started reading fanfic. so basically I have only myself to blame)
so Rat Principal thought this guy was worthy of being All Might’s successor, huh. well, he might not be wrong about that. in fact, even though Deku is officially the one who inherited One for All, I’m gradually becoming more and more certain that the next “Symbol of Peace” won’t be a single hero at all, but rather multiple individuals, and possibly a whole new generation. but at the very least, I envision Deku and Kacchan being at the top together, the same way Batman and Superman lead the Justice League and Iron Man and Captain America lead the Avengers. and I can just see the other students from U.A. forming a team just like that, and that team being the new Symbol of Peace that keeps evil at bay and brings hope to the world
so yeah. successors. a whole lot of them. at least I hope so
haha and that’s the end of the chapter but I guess we have to skip the bonus content since I already posted it! Tsunotori Pony, who has horns similar to Mina and seems to have nothing to actually do with ponies whatsoever, and who is from America. and is adorable
