Award Season is among us. Our reviewer Actor, Producer and Journalist Alex von Roon can't wait to check out the contenders starting off with HBO' s "Succession". How do you like Alexander as "Ken" in the Hit Movie "Barbie"? Von Roon did work with the director before and enjoyed her performance in "Greenberg"
For "Bild am Sonntag" Alex also met SAG Award nominee Tony Shalhoub on set in his trailer. Some comments were very interesting. We wonder how Mr. Monk would deal with a pandemic such as Corona.
Below please find the complete list of nominations courtesy of SAGAFTRA. Which are your favorites? Comment below.

Seriously, if this is true... I'm just going to guess that Hayley Atwell has blackmail material on Feige....
I try not to speculate in public about real people too much because it's hard to know what the power dynamics are behind the scenes.
Objectively, though, studios are motivated by money. This is why Sharon/EvC's role was cut for ScarJo in CATWS, who's a much bigger box office draw and a fan(boy) favourite with her Black Widow. In this context, the choice of pushing PC long past her (literal) expiry date is...odd, and I really doubt it's all to do with the Stucky panic. Is HA the biggest box office draw out of the current cast of actresses? No. Apart from the MCU franchise, she only has a couple of TV shows under her belt. Meanwhile we've got Zoe Saldana, Natalie Portman, and even Awkwafina who have all starred in blockbuster movie productions before coming into the franchise. Is HA the most critically acclaimed out of the current actresses? No, the best she got was a Golden Globes nomination in 2011. Meanwhile we've got Oscar winners Brie Larson, Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong'o, not to mention veterans like Cate Blanchett and Michelle Pfeiffer and Tilda Swinton. Even younger actresses like Florence Pugh and Hailee Steinfeld have more award clout and critical acclaim outside of the core MCU audience.
Is PC really that interesting a character that we want to see a fourth iteration of her, as suggested by this article? Fuck no. Aside from the subjectivity of that statement, very little of her remade story has been new or fresh. It's simply a rewrite of pre-existing canon with her as the awkward OC insert. Meanwhile we've got far more interesting characters in Nebula, Nakia, Monica Rambeau, Maya and Yelena that I'd love to see more of. Which brings me to...
HA's famous "wait their turn". It's 2022. The classic White privileged well-educated able-bodied lady from the 1940s has had her turn in 6 movies (3 CA + 2 Av + 1 DS) and 2 seasons of AC and 1 season of What If. It's time for other women's stories.
And yet the studio keeps going back to her.

Marvel Fans Squint at New MCU Concept Art “Leak” Online
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
It’s time to flick an eye over a recent Reddit post and explore a new Marvel “leak” that seemingly gives us a quick look at concept art for some of the studio’s more imminent projects, including Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Are there spoilers ahead? Who can say. That’s a very existential question.
Briefly muting the chorus of voices screaming “legit” or “fake” is probably a requirement here, as it is with most “leaks” that make their way online. Marvel has been known to tinker with things right up until the last minute, so even some of the real concept art we eventually get to clap our eyes on doesn’t typically fit the mould of what we end up getting.
This new “leak”, which was supposedly offered to a toy manufacturer by Marvel, gives us a fuzzy peek at two of its upcoming Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye, which are both currently filming stateside. There’s also that aforementioned glimpse of art bits for Doctor Strange 2, but we’ll get to that in a bit.
The “leaked” images have been circulating on social media for a while, and have been subject to much scrutiny from fans, so let’s have a gander…
A NEW LEAK pic.twitter.com/Yb7b0VRaWe
— Zane ‎⧗ (@avengersavenue) March 25, 2021
Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Clint Barton in Hawkeye, which will also introduce Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop and Lucky the Pizza Dog. Black Widow‘s Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) will also make an appearance, and the art in this “leak” certainly seems to fit with the behind the scenes images we’ve seen of the show thus far.
Alaqua Cox’s Echo appears to be in the line-up, too, and recent reports have claimed she’ll get her very own spinoff series after Hawkeye, so it seems she’ll be a fairly major addition to the MCU going forward.
Ms.Marvel
Meanwhile in the Ms. Marvel row, we have art for Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan along with her character’s various fan costumes, and what looks to be Aramis Knight in his rumored Kareem/Red Dagger attire.
This series will set up Captain Marvel 2, with Vellani returning in that sequel as Kamala. There’s been no confirmation yet from Marvel that Brie Larson will guest star in any episodes of the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series as Carol Danvers, but it does feel slightly inevitable.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
This is where the “leak” gets more intriguing. In the Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness part of the image, we can see art for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme, Benedict Wong’s Wong, Xochitl Gomez’s new MCU addition America Chavez, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo and Wanda Maximoff as the Scarlet Witch.
It was confirmed long ago that Elizabeth Olsen would co-star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange sequel, so it’s not exactly a surprise to see her here, but – as many fans have already pointed out – this isn’t Wanda’s more elaborate new costume from WandaVision. However, the costume mismatch could easily be explained away via WandaVision director Matt Shakman’s admission that the team were still working on wrapping post-production on WandaVision while it was in the midst of being released.
The most interesting part of the “leak” is the final character included in the Doctor Strange 2 images. Anyone familiar with the Doctor Strange comics is likely to instantly shout “Clea!” and for good reason. The character is a big part of Doctor Strange’s story going all the way back to 1964’s Strange Tales #126, and the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension has been heavily rumored to show up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Here’s the thing about Clea’s introduction in the sequel, though: we’ve had absolutely no casting news for the character to date, and given that the film has already been in production for some time, we suspect that the reason we don’t yet know who’s playing Clea is because …it’s Rachel McAdams.
McAdams featured in the first Doctor Strange solo movie as Dr. Christine Palmer, but it was kind of a thankless role for an actress who deserved much more. It certainly wouldn’t be out of left field for McAdams to become Clea at some point in a film about the multiverse, and much of Phase 4 revolves around themes of transformation – Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch, Sam Wilson becomes Captain America, Loki may become the God of Stories, and Jane Foster will become Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Something to think about.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });

This started out as a whole thing about Brie Larson. She’s started a YouTube channel and i figured I'd follow it just for kicks. I’m not a huge fan of massive Hollywood stars invading more accessible spaces but, technically, they’re the “You” in YouTube, too. I can’t be too mad at that. Of course Google is going to cater more to their brand, mostly because they bring in the duckets and understand PR so they know ho not to cause an ADpocolypse, but it’s still mad sh*tty. Larson’s first post was just her being goofy, trying to figure out how to even be a YouTuber. You kind of see a side of her that i figured was there, but never really was able to confirm. Brie Larson is the poster child for Millennial geekdom and i find that adorable as f*ck. Which is why i don’t understand the MASSIVE waves of hate she’s getting from the community. Cats are reveling in her perceived failure, it’s actually insane.
Now, before we go any further, i just want to be clear; I am a fan of Brie Larson. I think she is excellent at her craft. Ma is from my hometown and it’s always great to see someone make it out of this cowtown. I believe she has every right to her opinions and the fact that she voices them from such a visible platform, makes her one of the most endearing and real celebrities in an industry maligned by the phony. Brie ain’t quite Russell Brand but she is very vocal about the unjust sh*t she sees and will totally let you know it. That, i think, is why she garners such vitriol. Look, I'm a black dude living in the US. If she gets on TV and says f*ck white dudes, I'm inclined to agree. But she didn’t say that. What she said was there needs to be more voices making film, different perspectives in the arts. White dudes dominate the industry and she’s tired of seeing that movie. I don’t understand how that’s a controversial statement. It’s true. We need more dynamic, more diverse, storytellers making films out in the wild. The thing is, that one statement earned her the ire of every entitled white boy with time and and the internet. These motherf*cker decided to take that personally and we were off to the races.
When Brie Larson was announced as Captain Marvel, i was okay with it. I thought Charlize Theron or Katee Sackhoff would have been a better look but i get it. Larson is young and can portray the character for years to come. Kind of how Florence Pugh is going to take over Black Widow duties from Scarlett Johansson. Pugh can be that character for close to a decade, as can Larson. Once again, however, the interwebs were set asunder with rage and malcontent over the Cap Marvel announcement. It was f*cking ridiculous to me. Sure, she didn’t look the part going into this but neither did Gal Gadot, the latter turned out to be the best thing going in that trainwreck DCEU. Larson grew into the part, put in the work to look the part, and is committed to the role. She did her research, consuming massive amounts of the comics, trying to find Carol’s head space, which was a goddamn feat. Captain Marvel is as controversial as Brie Larson, herself. And it’s just as stupid.
Look, i adore Captain Marvel. She’s my fifth favorite Marvel character after Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Laura Kinney, and Illyana Rasputin. In that order. Captain Marvel grew on me during the whole Mighty Avengers and Disassembled story lines from years ago. I have no love-loss for Bendis but that cat did wonders for building up more obscure characters, Carol being one of them. I also like what he did for Luke Cage, too, but that’s not what this essay is about. I’ve been a fan of this character since the early 00s and have rode this Carol train for years. I jumped on bored when she was rocking her leotard, which i miss terribly, took my time to dig up the back issues where she was in the original red and blue digs and moonlighted as Warbird for a bit. Then, Marvel Now happened and f*cked it all up. Carol went from this attractive, uber-powered, mess of a woman to a cold, manly, aggressively stupid caricature of herself. The Carol Danvers i had grown to love, with all of her faults and trauma, became some sort of butch nightmare and the poster child for why Woke Marvel was failing. I don’t think that’s fair.
Comic Carol was on her way to becoming a real force in the Marvel universe. She had learned there was worth in her strength, one she had to drag out through deep introspection and an understanding of who she really is. No longer was she just a gender-swapped, copyright placeholder that no one knew what to do with. Now she had agency. Now she was a force. Now she was relevant. Now tore all of that away. After Marvel Now, all of that growth and nuance was thrown out of the window. She became the idealized version of what the SJWs thought a “Strong Woman” should be. Marvel gave her a massive push in an effort to  cater to this burgeoning Tumblr dynamic and it failed miserably. Marvel wanted that Steven Universe crowd and they tried real hard to get it but that sh*t did not work. The changes to the universe weren’t extreme or feminist or PC enough. Courting a fanbase that had no longevity, Carol was sabotaged and thrown to the wolves. That’s the environment we were saturated in when Disney announced Larson as Carol for the MCU. It was a perfect storm of Nerdrage, one that has not died down in any capacity all these years later for either Brie or Carol.
I don’t think the feminist slant given to the Captain Marvel movie was actually such a big deal. I think the vitriol that flick faces stems from the combined maliciousness both the new version of Carol in the comics and Brie Larson, herself, garnered. It’s kind of crazy the massive tantrum everyone decided to throw over this movie. Cats were looking for this thing to fail as some sort of petulant schadenfreude ignoring the fact that this movie wasn’t made for them. As frustrated as i was with the ludicrous discourse, i knew this movie wasn't for me. his wasn’t my Carol and i was good with that. Unlike Marvel who pandered to the trend of PC nonsense, the MCU had a clear vision in mind for the audience they wanted; Young girls. They wanted a character who was strong enough to hang with Thor, stand equally with Iron Man, and have the respect of Captain America. Captain Marvel was the best option. She would be the tentpole hero of the MCU going forward and i accepted that. I went into the film with that understanding and, on my way out, i saw, firsthand, what this movie meant to the target audience. There was a little girl, about nine or so, gushing abut how cool Captain Marvel was. She as ecstatic to see a girl like her, kicking so much butt. In the face of that, every entitled argument you have against the character falls apart in my eyes. Captain Marvel is to young girls and woman, as Black Panther was to us black folk. It’s the same energy.
Do i think the film could have been better? F*ck yea, i do. I think the script should have had one more revision and the directors definitely felt out of place. They’re good at their jobs, they mostly make A24-esque fare, but a massive, multi-million dollar, space epic connected to the most popular film franchise in history? Nah, these cats were way out of their depth. I think Feige dropped the ball on this one, a rare miss. I think Kathryn Bigelow, Patty Jenkins, Lynne Ramsay, Claire Dennis, or  Lorene Scafaria would have constructed a much better film, both visually and narrative wise. I think if the movie was better as a whole, a lot of the controversy and vitriol would have been neutered. Carol is written quite wooden and a little pretentious. The interactions between the supporting cast feels forced. The overall narrative is fine but definitely could have been embellished at parts. Captain Marvel is boring and i don’t know how that happened. You have one of the strongest characters in comics, with a distinct, visually appealing powerset, and you make her movie boring? Really? More than anything, though, is the absolute mistreatment of Sam Jackson and Nick Fury.
The writing reduces Nick Fury, the mind behind the entirety of the Avengers Initiative, to lap boy sidekick in an effort to up Carol’s own stature. That sh*t is poor writing and it’s mad frustrating to see. I hate narratives that have to job established characters, in an effort to push new additions. I just wrote a whole goddamn thing about that with Punchline, Joker’s new “partner”. It’s bogus, cheapening the character and opens up an avenue for bad-faith complaints. Rey Palpatine is another great example. Her entire character is built on the slow, methodical, violent, destruction of the Skywalker legacy. Interestingly enough, that character was launched in the same environment as New Carol so i understand why the movie is the way that it is. I don’t agree with it, but i know why. It was an incredibly poor choice to introduce Captain Marvel in this way, however, and she’s never recovered. Brie has never recovered. You want a 90s buddy-cop space opera? Lethal Weapon with Skrulls and starships? You need your Murtaugh and Riggs to stand on equal footing. That was not the case with this flick. Having Nick Fury job to Carol Danvers for two hours was the wrong way to go about all of this and i think a different creative team could have made something truly excellent.
It’s nuts to me that this is even a thing though. Brie’s personal controversy is so f*cking stupid, i choke every time i think about it. How are you mad she stand up for herself, her gender, and everyone else in a position of persecution? Don’t you want though with a platform speaking up about the inequities of our country? I feel like the same people who hate Brie for her vocal advocacy, are the same people who stan “All Lives Matter” when ever someone says Black Lives Matter. That sh*t feels like the same energy to me. I feel like the criticisms launched at comic Carol have real validity, even if most of them are just whiny man-children who miss the leotard. I miss the leotard, too, but come on? We’re passed that now. I do think, when written well, Carol can be a force in the books. Her run as part of the new Ultimates was pretty chill I think she needs that in order to be her true self, until we establish a true self for the character. It’s weird to say but Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel previously, has been around for fifty years, and no one has any idea who she is as a character. I think Captain Marvel in the MCU, both the character and film, are hated for the wrong reasons. The fact that no one has any idea who this character is, makes for a lousy cinematic experience. The team put together in an effort to flesh this character out, didn’t have the creative capacity to do so and we were left with little more than PC tropes and Feminist agenda. The MCU let both Brie and Carol down in that regard.
Brie Larson isn’t a terrible person and she deserves more respect put on her name. She an accomplished actress with a bevy of awards and accolades to her name. She’s been in great films like Room and Scott Pilgrim, never once garnering a controversy. The fact that she speaks her truth, a truth the establishment doesn’t want to hear, should not disqualify her talent or the fact that she seems like a really chill person. Carol Danvers is a dope ass character with an amazing amount of potential. When she’s written well and not traded upon for trends, she can have real staying power. Her abilities open up a plethora of interesting, creatively fertile narratives yet to be written. Disregarding her just because Marvel decided to gamble on the pretentious third-wave feminism wave is shortsighted and makes you look like a childish brat. You’re entitled to feel however you want but let’s be clear; Brie Larson and Carol Danvers deserve so much better.

MCU Movies in Development: A Master Post
Last Edited: May 01, 2019
Since Endgame is coming out this month, I thought that I should make a master post of all of the MCU movies in development, as a sort of companion piece to my DCEU one. So, without further ado, let’s get to it.
Confirmed Release Dates:
Spider-Man: Far From Home - July 5, 2019
Tumblr media
The Story: After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker goes on a school trip to Europe with his friends. While abroad, he is recruited by Nick Fury to team up with Mysterio to battle the Elementals.
The Crew: Jon Watts (director), Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal (producers), Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers (writers), Michael Giacchino (composer), Matthew J. Lloyd (cinematographer)
The Cast: Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Zendaya (MJ Jones), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), J.B. Smoove (TBA), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Martin Starr (Mr. Harrington), Marisa Tomei (May Parker), Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio)
Unknown Release Dates:
Black Widow
Tumblr media
In February 2014, Kevin Feige stated that after exploring Black Widow's past in Age of Ultron, he would like to see it explored further in a solo film. Marvel has done some development work for the potential film, including a "pretty in depth" treatment by Nicole Perlman, and by May 2016, Feige stated that Marvel was "creatively and emotionally" committed to creating the solo film. By January 2018, Jac Schaeffer was hired to write the script. That July, Cate Shortland was hired to direct, with Johansson reprising her role as Black Widow. By February 2019, Ned Benson was hired to rewrite the script. Filming is expected to begin in June 2019 in the United Kingdom and last until that September. Florence Pugh and David Harbour have been cast, and Rachel Weiszis in talks to star.
The Eternals
Tumblr media
By April 2018, Marvel had met with multiple screenwriters to craft a film based on the Eternals, with a focus on the characters Sersi and Ikaris. Kevin Feige stated that a film based on the group was "one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate." A month later, Matthew and Ryan Firpo were hired to write the script for the project. By late-September, Marvel hired Chloé Zhao to direct the film. Angelina Jolie is in talks to star. Filming was originally set to begin in August 2019 in Atlanta, but was later pushed to September 16, 2019 and will last until January 2020, the movie will have a new shooting location in London.
Doctor Strange sequel
Tumblr media
In April 2016, co-writer C. Robert Cargill stated that Marvel felt some initial ideas for the film from him and Scott Derrickson highlighted too much of the "weird stuff" associated with the character to feature in an origin story, but told the duo to hold onto them for potential future films. In October 2016, Derrickson confirmed he had plans for a sequel, saying, "I love the character, I love the visual possibilities, and I know the comics so well—[the first movie is] the tip of an iceberg. There's so much progress that can be made." He would like to follow the example of The Dark Knight and "bring in a villain where you really got to go deep [and have] a more visceral experience". Benedict Cumberbatch added that he had signed on for at least one more Doctor Strange solo film. Derrickson hoped to feature Nightmare in a potential sequel, and expressed interest in further exploring the characters Jonathan Pangborn and Hamir in a sequel, after their smaller roles in the first film. He also explained that he is "kept in the loop" on how the Avengers films will use Strange, because of his close relationships with Kevin Feige and Joe Russo. Jon Spaihts has also expressed interest in seeing Clea appear in a potential sequel. By April 2017, it was reported that Derrickson would return for a potential sequel, beginning work on it after fulfilling his commitments to the television series, Locke & Key. Despite no official announcements, Benedict Wong said in October 2018 that he expected filming on a sequel to begin by the end of that year. By December 2018, Derrickson had "quietly" finalized a deal to return to direct the sequel, with Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, and Wong confirmed to reprise their roles from the first film. Marvel is beginning to search for a writer, with a plan to begin filming in early 2020.
Black Panther sequel
Tumblr media
With the release of Black Panther, Kevin Feige said "there are many, many stories to tell" about the character, and that he wanted Ryan Coogler to return for any potential sequel. Coogler added that he wanted to see how T'Challa would grow as a king in future films, since his reign only began recently in the MCU, while in the comics, he has been king since childhood. In March 2018, Feige added there was "nothing specific to reveal" in terms of a sequel, but that there "absolutely" were "ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one". By October 2018, Coogler had completed a deal to write and direct a sequel to Black Panther. Letita Wright will reprise her role as Shuri in the film.
Shang-Chi
Tumblr media
By December 2018, Marvel was "fast-tracking" development on a Shang-Chi film, which would be their first Asian-led film. Chinese-American writer David Callaham was hired to work on the screenplay, with Marvel Studios looking to hire an Asian or Asian-American filmmaker to direct. By March 2019, Marvel hired Destin Daniel Cretton to direct the film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Tumblr media
In November 2014, when James Gunn said he had the "basic story" for Vol. 2 while working on the first film, he also said he had ideas for a potential third film. Despite this, Gunn was unsure in June 2015 if he would be involved with a third Guardians film, saying it would depend on his feelings after making Vol. 2. In April 2016, Kevin Feige said the future MCU films are "still a big chess board for 2020 and beyond, but certainly I would say Guardians 3 is [one film that's] up there. I don't know what exactly the order will be." In March 2017, Gunn stated there would be a third film "for sure. We're trying to figure it out," also adding, "There are no specific plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But we know unless something goes horribly—which is always possible, you never know—I think that Marvel would want to make another movie." He also reiterated he was still unsure if he would be involved with the film, and that he would figure out his involvement and his next project "over the next couple of weeks." The following month, Gunn announced he would return to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
However, in July 2018, Disney cut ties with Gunn following the resurfacing of old, controversial tweets from Gunn. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, and Karen Gillan issued a statement in support of Gunn. Pratt, Klementieff, and Bautista are expected to reprise their roles, though Bautista threatened to leave his role if Gunn's script would not be used. Filming had been expected to begin in 2019, for an expected release in 2020. In early August, Variety reported that Disney was in no hurry to find a replacement director for Gunn, and is waiting for an A-list filmmaker to become available, even if it means pushing the film's original February 2019 production date. Later that month, production was put on hold, and delayed to February 2021. In March 2019, Disney and Marvel Studios reversed course and reinstated Gunn as director. Filming of Vol. 3 will commence once Gunn has completed his work for the DCEU film The Suicide Squad.
Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel
Tumblr media
Ahead of the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Peyton Reed noted that he and Marvel were "hopeful" about a third film, having discussed potential story points. Michael Douglas also expressed interest in playing a younger version of his character Hank Pym in a prequel, something which Reed already teased back in 2015. In February 2019, Douglas said of a possible sequel, "There's been talk [about another Ant-Man]... [but] there's been nothing formal right now that I know of."
Captain Marvel sequel
Tumblr media
In February 2019, Brie Larson expressed interest for including the character Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in a sequel to Captain Marvel; Feige previously said he had plans to introduce Khan to the MCU following the release of Captain Marvel. The following month, Feige said he had "pretty amazing" ideas for a Captain Marvel sequel. Feige added that a possible sequel could explore the time gap between the end of the first film and Danvers' next appearance in Avengers: Endgame. Lashana Lynch expressed interest in reprising her role as Maria Rambeau in such a sequel.
Thor: Ragnarok sequel
Tumblr media
In January 2018, Chris Hemsworth indicated his interest in continuing to play Thor, despite his contract with Marvel Studios scheduled to end after Avengers: Endgame, saying the next month "if there's another great script that comes along" he would consider playing the character again, and later added, "I’d play this character for as long as anyone would let me," crediting Taika Waititi for revitalizing his interest in Thor. He and Waititi had discussed what they would want in a potential fourth Thor film by then. By April 2019, Tessa Thompson believed that a pitch had been made for a sequel to Ragnarok that involved Waititi returning.

An up-to-date look at the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tumblr media
Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Disney
Expect a lot of sequels.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe closed out its “Infinity Saga” last summer with the releases of Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, which ended a 23-film cycle of big, ambitious, and thrilling storytelling. Despite what felt like a logical beginning, middle and end to its first few phases of films, Disney and Marvel have no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Captain America, Iron Man, and some of the other key Avengers from the last decade-plus are now set aside for characters stepping forward into bigger roles — such as Black Panther and Captain Marvel — and characters we have not seen in this iteration of films yet. With Disney’s merger with Fox, characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four are on the way with Marvel Studios now having the rights to the majority of the storied comic company’s intellectual property. This comes after decades of heroes’ film rights being divided among several studios.
Here is the full list of projects that are currently in development for the next phases of the MCU.
Theatrical Releases
Black Widow (November 6, 2020)
There had been rumors for years that Scarlett Johansson would get her own solo film and now it is set to lead Marvel’s “Phase Four” as the first-post Infinity Saga movie. However, this film is set to take place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Other cast members include David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh, among others. Taskmaster will be the villain in this movie, who is known for his ability to copy the powers of the heroes he is facing.
The Eternals (February 12, 2021)
Marvel is never afraid to throw something new and weird at its audience, and did so with massive success with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. The Eternals is set to tell the story of a race of human-god aliens created by beings called Celestials that have lived on Earth for 7,000 years among us. The cast includes Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angeline Jolie, Gemma Chan, Lauren Ridloff, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, and Kit Harington, to name a few from the massive lineup. Chloé Zhao will helm the film.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (May 7, 2021)
The MCU has a way of existing as genre films inside of a superhero film packaging. To name a few examples, we have seen political thrillers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and heist films (Ant-Man), but now Marvel steps into its first kung fu-inspired take. Shang-Chi is a master of the martial arts and will be played by relative newcomer Simu Liu. We have actually heard of the Ten Rings before, as they were the terrorist organization introduced when Tony Stark was kidnapped in Iron Man. Then, we met its leader, The Mandarin, in Iron Man 3. Except we didn’t because that was a fake out. Tony Leung is set to play the “real” Mandarin and Awkwafina is also set for a role in the film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
Untitled Spider-Man Sequel (November 5, 2021)
Things were dicey here for a bit with Disney and Sony, who owns Spider-Man’s film rights, having a contract dispute in the summer of 2019. However, both sides came to an agreement and Tom Holland’s Spidey is back on track with Zendaya also set to return and Jon Watts directing once again.
Thor: Love and Thunder (February 11, 2022)
Thor is one of the only original Avengers set to play a role in the next phase of films and both Chris Hemsworth and director Taika Waititi are set to return. Tessa Thompson will also return as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman is making her return to the role of Jane Foster in the film. Foster is set to become the female version of Thor in this next installment with Christian Bale making his MCU debut as the film’s villain, though we do not yet know who he is playing.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022)
Doctor Strange’s solo outing was solid, but did not do a ton to movie the needle among MCU fans. That changed with the key role that he played in both Infinity War and Endgame and now he is back for another film centered around him. This time, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange will be joined by another Marvel hero in the form of Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Benedict Wong is set to return as Wong with Chiwetel Ejiofor also back to play Karl Mordo. The events of this film will be tied into the Scarlet Witch Disney+ series WandaVision (which we will discuss here a bit later). The film will be directed by Sam Raimi of the Evil Dead franchise and the 2000s Spider-Man films.
Black Panther II (May 6, 2022)
When Black Panther became the cultural phenomenon it was after coming out in February of 2018 — eventually earning a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars — it was only a matter of time before we got a sequel. Not much is known about the project other than Ryan Coogler returning to direct and the expectation is that the majority of the cast from the last film should return, as well. The rumor is that the sequel may feature Namor, who actually preceded Aquaman as the Atlantean/human hybrid character in pop culture.
Untitled Captain Marvel Sequel (July 8, 2022)
The only thing that is known about this film is that Brie Larson is set to reprise her role as the titular hero. Seeing as her solo film took place in the 90s and Endgame brought her into the present day, there is no shortage of possibilities for what her next outing might look like.
Unscheduled theatrical projects
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
After a brief brush with controversy over old tweets that saw James Gunn fired from the job of directing this movie, all sides came to an agreement and he was brought back. This is expected to close out the story thread of his iteration of the Guardians, but it is going to have to wait until he finishes work on DC’s The Suicide Squad, which he signed on to direct when he was originally fired by Marvel.
Untitled Ant-Man and The Wasp Sequel
A more recent addition to the upcoming slate of films with news of its development dropping in April 2020. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are expected to be back in their roles, and Peyton Reed will be back to direct after doing the last two films.
Blade
This was the surprise of all surprises when its development was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Mahershala Ali will be playing the role after lobbying Marvel to bring back the character, and the Oscar winner reaching out was too good for the studio to pass up. That is all we know about this film for now, but it has fans of the vampire hunter excited to see what Ali and the studio can come up with.
Fantastic Four
It is only a matter of time before we get to see Marvel’s iconic foursome of heroes hit the screen again after the Disney-Fox merger went through. After a few “meh” outings in the mid-2000s and a putrid reboot attempt in 2015, the characters are back where they belong. All we know so far is that the studio is developing the project with no other details available at this time. Fans have been clamoring for the real-life couple of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt to play Reed Richards and Sue Storm, respectively. You can add my name to the list of people who would love to see that casting.
X-Men
We are probably far away from the X-Men making their debut in the MCU, which is not the worst thing in the world. Fox’s franchise ran for almost 20 years and it is going to take some time for people to cleanse their pallets of the Hugh Jackman/Patrick Stewart-era of characters. They are on the way, but it is going to take some time and they might be the last of these projects that we see on the screen.
Disney+ Shows
These will appear exclusively on the Disney+ streaming platform, but Marvel maintains they will have cinematic budgets and that everything will connect to the theatrical releases, so this is a brand new layer to the MCU.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (August 2020)
Now that Black Widow has been pushed to the fall, this is the next MCU property we are set to see. This series is set to follow Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) after the events of Endgame, where an old Captain America passed his shield and mantle on to Wilson. Daniel Brühl is set to return as Helmut Zemo of Civil War fame and Emily VanCamp returning as Sharon Carter. Wyatt Russell joins the cast as John Walker, the U.S. government created successor to Steve Rogers.
WandaVision (December 2020)
As we mentioned before, this series is set to lead into the events of the Doctor Strange sequel with Wanda Maximoff involved in a big way. Paul Bettany is also set to return as Vision, as it appears that Wanda has created an alternate reality where they can live together among the backdrop of sitcom-style settings from multiple decades (yeah, it’s going to get really dang weird). An adult version of Monica Rambeau, who was a child in Captain Marvel, is set to debut and be played by Teyonah Parris. Randall Park and Kat Dennings are going to return to the MCU in their roles of Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis, respectively.
Loki (Early 2021)
Loki stealing the Tesseract in an alternate timeline in Endgame screamed Disney+ series, and now Marvel is doing just that. The series will see Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the God of Mischief as an alternate version of his 2012 self traveling back in time and altering history. Owen Wilson and Richard E. Grant are also set to join in some form or fashion.
What If...? (Mid-2021)
This is going to be an animated anthology series that explores how events of the MCU would have happened by changing different variables, a la if Peggy Carter was given the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. The original actors from MCU films will return to reprise their roles in a voice acting capacity for the series, which will star Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher. A second season has already been greenlit, as well.
Hawkeye (2022)
A limited series is set to come for the bow-and-arrow wielder with Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton, which would see him pass on his mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop (reportedly to be portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld).
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel has been a recent character in the comics with rapidly growing popularity among fans. Not a whole lot is out there on the series other than Bisha K. Ali being hired as the head writer. It is also possible Ms. Marvel is introduced in Captain Marvel’s sequel.
Moon Knight (2022)
Moon Knight is Marvel’s answer to Batman, except he has a dissociative identity disorder. So ... that’s an interesting concept. In addition to his Disney+ series, Moon Knight will be appearing in future MCU films, as well.
She-Hulk (2022)
She-Hulk is set to revolve around Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner/Hulk who gains powers after receiving a blood transfusion from him. Walters is a skilled lawyer and has often appeared as representation to heroes and other enhanced beings over the years. Another ... interesting concept. Marvel is reportedly looking for an “Alison Brie-type” to play this character. The lead writer on the series is set to be Jessica Gao of Rick and Morty fame.

The Ultimate Fashion Guide To The Oscars Red Carpet
If the Grammys were a water break in the 26.2-mile marathon that is award season, the Oscars are the final sprint. Only the best of the best are still going strong, wishing and hoping that all their hard work thus far will result in one of the trophies waiting at the finish line. And if you’re planning on winning an Oscar, there’s really no choice but to show up like a real movie star.  Sunday's event was a fashionable one, with many rumours already spreading throughout the day about what our favourite nominees would be wearing on the red carpet wearing. Will Timothée Chalamet, who will be presenting, show up in a corset like Twitter predicted? A girl can only dream. What about the rest of his Little Women cast? Sequins for Florence? Chain-link for Saoirse? And what couture frock will Cynthia Erivo choose for the final award show of her Harriet tour? Find out the answers to all your burning questions of the night by clicking through our best-dressed picks from Sunday night’s Oscars red carpet.
Timothée Chalamet in Prada
Nobody seems to be able to pinpoint who exactly Timothée Chalamet's Oscars look reminds them of. Is it Rory Gilmore's best ex, Jess Mariano? Christian Bale in Ford V. Ferrari? A West Hollywood valet? Whoever it is, no one can deny that everyone's favourite stylist-free actor can pull off a brooch, a vintage Cartier design from 1955.
Margaret Qualley in Chanel
It’s hard to imagine that Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood actress Margaret Qualley could ever one-up her past Chanel looks, and yet again, she's done it, this time in a feathered LBD.
Rebel Wilson in Custom Jason Wu
Rebel Wilson is channelling all of Old Hollywood from Oscars’ past in this sparkling gold off-the-shoulder gown designed just for her by Jason Wu.
Regina King in Versace
If Beale Street Could Talk, it’d give Regina King one hell of a compliment for this form-fitting Versace gown.
Lucy Boynton in Chanel
From the Peter Pan collar and tuxedo bib to the mini black bows and pearl hair accessories, Lucy Boynton's Oscars look is checking off all of our boxes.
Margot Robbie in Chanel
Are armbands making a comeback? According to Margot Robbie's vintage Chanel dress, they most definitely should.
Renée Zellweger in Armani Privé
The Judy star was as much a shining ray of light as the character she portrayed in this white, one-shoulder Armani Privé dress.
Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen
Between the cut-outs and hand-slashed lace, Rooney Mara's Alexander McQueen gown was moody yet lovely, and totally set Mara apart from the rest of the attendees.
Brie Larson in Celine by Hedi Slimane
The Captain Marvel star gave her superhero costume a fancy-pants upgrade courtesy of this sequined, blush-pink gown-and-cape combo designed by Hedi Slimane for Celine. Photo by Amy Sussman/Getty Images.
Florence Pugh in Custom Louis Vuitton
Florence Pugh joined a slew of attendees who chose to wear high-low silhouettes on tonight's red carpet. And while we wouldn't exactly say that we're excited about the early 2010s trend making a comeback, this teal Louis Vuitton number has us reconsidering our disfavour.
Cynthia Erivo in Custom Versace
The Harriet star has had quite the red carpet run this season, shining in everything from custom Thom Browne to Valentino haute couture. This white and silver gown, though, which includes everything from a thigh-high slit to a voluminous petticoat, is her most dramatic one yet.
Kristen Wiig
Dressing like everyone's favourite one-pan pasta dish is a surefire way to elicit double-takes the red carpet. Leave it to comedian Kristen Wiig to end up looking like a little more than just a snack.
Scarlett Johansson in Oscar de la Renta
ScarJo chose one of this season's hottest runway trends to bring to the red carpet: corsets. This peek-a-boo silver number is designed by Oscar de la Renta.
Saoirse Ronan in Gucci
Saoirse Ronan received her first nomination when she was 13 for her role in Atonement. Out of all her Oscars looks, though, this lilac and black Gucci gown with a jellyfish peplum is her best one yet. Even better, it's partially recycled: The black portion was taken from the BAFTAs gown she wore just last week.
Maya Rudolph in Valentino
Cut us a slice of this Maya Rudolph dazzling pumpkin pie-hued Valentino gown!
Natalie Portman in Custom Dior
For the 2020 Oscars, the Black Swan actress paired a custom Dior gown with a cape adorned with the names of three female directors who were snubbed by the Academy.
Penelope Cruz in Chanel
This high-low Chanel LBD, which was inspired by a vintage 1995 gown from the same house, is as classic as the iconic actress wearing it. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.
Sandra Oh in Elie Saab
Remember when Carrie Bradshaw got stood up by Aleksandr Petrovsky in Paris. But like Bradshaw, Sandra Oh's night — and her epic Elie Saab gown — is only just beginning. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.
Olivia Coleman in Stella McCartney
The Crown and The Favourite star Olivia Coleman looks as regal as the monarchs she portrays in this velvet, long-sleeved Stella McCartney gown.Photo: Amy Sussman/Getty Images.
Billy Porter in Giles Deacon
You know what they say: Dress for the award you want, which is exactly what the golden Pose star Billy Porter is doing tonight.
Julia Butters in Christian Siriano
Even bigger than her dreams of making it to the Oscars was Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood actress Julia Butters' lifelong goal of wearing Christian Siriano. And tonight, both dreams came true.
Laura Dern in Armani
We're getting "really good loving energy" from this pink and black Armani gown, glazed with black drip-drops on Marriage Story actress Laura Dern.
Kaitlyn Dever in Louis Vuitton
Booksmart actress Kaitlyn Dever got a head start on her Valentine's Day look with this red Louis Vuitton strapless gown made of sustainable Tencel.
Beanie Feldstein in Custom Miu Miu
Beanie Feldstein is an absolute vision in this square-neck custom Miu Miu gown *chefs kiss*.
Billie Eilish in Chanel
When she won the top prize at the Grammy’s last month, Billie Eilish wore a slime-green rendition of a leisure suit from Gucci. She continued that theme for the Oscars with a Chanel boucle two-piece that’d freak out the other ladies at the country club.
Janelle Monae in Ralph Lauren
Janelle Monae never slacks on the red carpet, and this rhinestone-encrusted hooded Ralph Lauren gown just raised the dramatic bar for everyone else.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Black is always a popular colour during the Oscars, but Charlize Theron’s two-piece Dior gown stood out, with a sky-high slit and a sexy droop shoulder.
Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?

Upcoming Marvel Movie Releases: Complete MCU Phase 4 Schedule
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
We’ve got everything you need to know about the upcoming Marvel movie schedule all in one place! The Marvel superhero movie plan now stretches all the way to 2023 (and beyond). The amazing thing is, it’s even more ambitious than we anticipated, with new movies getting announced all the time. It looks like even something on the massive scale of Avengers: Endgame was only the beginning. How can anything ever be bigger than that crazy Avengers: Endgame finale?
Well, it looks like we’re going to find out…eventually.
We’ve compiled as much information as we can find on every Marvel movie coming out in the next few years in a handy release calendar for you. This is where you can check out all the details on Marvel Phase 4 and beyond. You probably want to know a little more about the future of the MCU and all the other Marvel movies in development. Well, we’ve got you covered! However, be advised, almost every single MCU Phase 4 date has recently shifted because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which is wreaking havoc with every industry in the world, so update your calendars accordingly!
These dates have already shifted several times recently, and the most recent changes affect Black Widow, Eternals, and Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Don’t be surprised if they continue to move as things develop with the pandemic, but hopefully by the time Black Widow is ready to come out, we’ll have reached the end of this nonsense.
WandaVision
release date: December 2021
Yes, technically this isn’t a movie release, but with all of the release date changes, and the fact that it has been over a year since the last actual MCU release, we’ll take the good stuff where we can get it. And make no mistake, WandaVision very much appears to be the good stuff.
Ever wonder what happened to Wanda after she went all Scarlet Witch on Thanos in Avengers: Endgame? Well, you’re gonna find out in WandaVision, which appears to depict a grief-riddled Wanda dealing with the death of Vision in less than healthy ways.
Elizabeth Olsen is, of course, back as Wanda, and so is Paul Bettany as the Vision. This show is going to have serious ties to the MCU, with elements that will be important for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Captain Marvel 2 having prominent roles. The trailer is packed with MCU strangeness, which we wrote about here.
WandaVision is the first of a number of MCU focused shows coming to Disney+ over the next year. 2021 will also bring us Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. Since these will also be vital to the future of the MCU, we’ll add them to this calendar as they get release windows and/or trailers get released.
Black Widow
Release Date: May 7, 2021
The Black Widow movie was heading for a May 1, 2020 release before the coronavirus outbreak, but Disney and Marvel have decided to delay it until the industry’s infrastructure is back to some semblance of normal. First they bumped it to November, but now we have to wait almost a full year from that originally scheduled date before we see Natasha and friends.
Cate Shortland directed the film, and Scarlett Johansson stars, with Florence Pugh and David Harbour alongside her. One of the movie’s villains is Taskmaster, and we wrote a little bit more about him right here.
Natasha Romanoff will get a prequel movie of sorts here, as we catch up with Widow around the events of Captain America: Civil War. Will the plot affect her character’s ultimate fate in Endgame? Do not count on it.
We have more information on the Black Widow movie right here.
Morbius
Release Date: March 19, 2021
Spider-Man spinoff Morbius is Sony’s next big Marvel release, and it’ll officially be the first spinoff to properly connect to the MCU.
Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa directs from a script by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, as former Joker Jared Leto plays the anti-hero biochemist who finds a cure for his rare blood disease by using vampire bat blood. As you can imagine, there are consequences: he turns into a living vampire, for one.
Um…don’t be surprised if this one ends up moving off this date at some point at the rate we’re going.
Read more about the character of Michael Morbius here, and find everything you need to know about his upcoming movie, right here.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Release Date: June 25, 2021
Andy Serkis (Mowgli) steps behind the camera for Venom 2, which now boasts the catchy title of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, replacing Ruben Fleischer as director this time around. The first film, buoyed by a terrific showing at the Chinese box office, made an absolute ton of money, despite being released to mostly scathing reviews.
Venom 2 will follow up Sony’s 2018 Spider-Man-less spinoff film, but will likely be more connected to the MCU this time around, thanks to a renewed deal between the company and its Marvel Studios partners. Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, of course, and as you can probably guess from that title, he’ll be facing off against Woody Harrelson’s villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage!
This one was originally tentatively scheduled for October, 2020, but has been shuffled away for the moment as studios continue to move release dates around because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Read everything else you need to know about Venom 2.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Release date: July 9, 2021
Simu Liu has been cast as the titular Shang-Chi and Tony Leung as The Mandarin (hey, that name sounds familiar! But this time, we’re getting the real Mandarin on screen). Destin Daniel Cretton is directing from a script by Dave Callaham. Given its “Ten Rings” title, Shang-Chi should be steeped in Marvel lore!
This has been delayed twice. Let’s hope that’s the end of it. At least it has resumed production!
We have more info on the Shang-Chi movie right here.
Spider-Man 3
Release Date: Nov. 5, 2021
While the next Spider-Man movie doesn’t have a title yet, it’s happening, and the best news of all is that it’s happening in the MCU! Marvel and Sony solved their differences, good sense prevailed, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will remain a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No other details, not even a title, are available at this time, but we’ll update this with more information as it becomes available!
Say it with us now: this date is probably going to move, especially because November also sees the release of…
The Eternals
Release Date: Nov. 21, 2021
The Eternals has completed principal photography and is on post-production. Chloe Zhao is directing from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.
The cast features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight.
This one was another victim of the release date shuffle, having moved from February of 2021 to November of that year. We’ll get to see Jack Kirby‘s wildest creations eventually!
You can read more about The Eternals movie right here.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Taika Waititi, who gave us the delightful Thor: Ragnarok, will return to write and direct. Chris Hemsworth will be back, but will it be as Thor? Natalie Portman is your new Thor (yes, you read that right, Jane Foster will wield the hammer…just as she did in the comics!). Christian Bale has also joined the cast. We have some guesses about who he might be playing, but we’re not totally sure yet.
We have more info on Thor: Love and Thunder right here.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release Date: March 25, 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it will open up the storytelling possibilities in the MCU like never before. And that’s just based on the name alone. Scott Derrickson was scheduled to direct, but has bowed out because of “creative differences” with Marvel. But the good news is that Marvel found a suitable replacement in none other than Sam Raimi, who of course has plenty of superhero experience thanks to his Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s! There are also a few rumors doing the rounds that Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo could be introduced in this sequel. We’ll keep an eye on that and update this if there’s any substance to them.
We have more information on Doctor Strange 2 right here.
Black Panther 2
Release Date: May 6, 2022
Black Panther 2 is still on Disney’s release schedule, despite the tragic, untimely death of star Chadwick Boseman. It’s unclear if Marvel plans to recast the role, but that seems like a difficult, even unwise proposition at this time.
Ryan Coogler will return as director, but there are no other details currently available. We have more information on Black Panther 2 right here.
Captain Marvel 2
Release date: July 8, 2022
WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell has been tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel 2. You know what else is really cool? Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta will direct!
We have no idea where we’ll find Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in the sequel to her hugely successful first standalone MCU entry. Will she be fighting to loosen her former Kree pals’ iron grip on a pre-Avengers galaxy? Or will the follow up film see her fighting for justice in the present?
Read more about Captain Marvel 2 here.
And then there are still some dates that Marvel has announced that they have yet to match projects to. Those dates are…
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel
Release Date: October 7, 2022
Is it technically an MCU movie? Nope. But with all the legal weirdness going on between Marvel and Sony, and this franchise’s very multiversal concept, who’s really to say that it ISN’T an MCU movie either, right? In any case, the sequel to the best Spider-Man movie of all time is coming in 2022 with Avatar: The Last Airbender mastermind Joaquim Dos Santos directing and David Callaham writing.
There’s also an “untitled Marvel movie” still technically scheduled for this date but…that is almost certainly not gonna happen now. Expect whatever that project was to move to one of these below dates or to some other currently unspecified date on the calendar.
Feb. 17, 2023
May 5, 2023
July 28, 2023
Nov. 3, 2023
Some of those dates could very well be good fits for the following films…
Ant-Man 3
Peyton Reed will return to direct the third installment of the Ant-Man saga, perhaps the most unlikely trilogy in Marvel’s entire arsenal. Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and you can almost certainly expect Evangeline Lilly to return as The Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
The villain of the film? That will be Kang the Conqueror, who will be played by Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors. The inclusion of Kang opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities for the MCU, and may even tease the arrival of the Fantastic Four down the line! We wrote more about those possibilities right here.
We’re also going to need fast confirmation on Michael Pena’s return as Luis, though. Luis is key…
This will probably slide in to one of those 2023 release dates above.
Blade
Well this one was a surprise. In 2019, Marvel announced that they will be rebooting the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali playing the titular daywalker. Ali’s True Detective co-star – and former Blade villain – Stephen Dorff is excited to see what he can do with the character, and so are we.
We have more info on Blade here.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Avengers: Endgame left the team in an interesting place. We broke down some of the story possibilities right here.
After a tumultuous period which saw James Gunn fired and then rehired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, he will become the first Marvel director to ever complete a trilogy for the studio. However, Gunn can’t even begin filming Guardians 3 until he finishes production on The Suicide Squad for DC, as well as an HBO Max Peacemaker prequel. Once those projects are finished, he’s free to return to the MCU.
We have everything else you need to know about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 right here.
And as for those others? Well, we’re still waiting on word on Deadpool 3, as well as movies to bring the Fantastic Four and the X-Men into the MCU. Could any of those 2023 dates do the trick? It’s very possible! We’ll keep updating this with new information as it becomes available.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });

so...Callum who?
Why are we starting with obscure, indie actors at all, you're asking. (That is, if you're even reading this.)
Simple answer is I've been tackling filmographies for so long, the obvious landmarks were covered in my early teen years (Ah!), so we're now on the hunt for fresh talent.
And you can never go wrong with indie talent.
Mostly.
Florence Pugh is another one I wish is more known. Her work in Lady Macbeth merits the EE Rising Star or so better than that. (More on Lady Macbeth later- getting ahead of myself here.)
Tumblr media
Back to Mr. Robillard Turner (those middle names, I swear!) I'm not going to regurgitate to you the basic facts you could find on Google, Wikipedia, or his IMDB page (which I've gone through. Obviously.)
Tumblr media
Each actor's filmography has its character, a long-running trait--you could say it's typecasting but it's not. More of reincarnation of a role in varying circumstances. Depending on an actor, there could be a specialization he/she really excels in. An example that comes to mind is Kirsten Dunst's spunky, vivacious nature (see: Bring It On, Wimbledon). Sofia Coppola's smartly cast her against type as a withdrawn teacher in The Beguiled.
With Callum, I'm still figuring it out. And it's been two years since I last watched (and first saw--without realizing that it was him. Dude was sporting green punk hair.) Green Room, that film in which Patrick Stewart is a neo-nazi (if you miss Anton Yelchin, aka Star Trek's Chekhov, and you're partial toward punk rock, what are you sitting there for? Rent this ASAP.)
Tumblr media
*By landmarks, I meant Daniel Radcliffe, Johnny Depp (huge sorry. Pirates made me do it) Heath Ledger, Jared Leto (Gods of War was on TV), Ben Whishaw, Ewan McGregor, Colin Firth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, James Franco (I'm sorry, it was a phase!), Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale, Ezra Miller, and later Dane DeHaan, Charlie Hunnam, and Daniel Bruhl, Harry Treadaway, Matt Smith, David Tennant, Gael Garcia Bernal, We're not talking broadway actors here. That'd be long.
*Anne Hathaway, Imogen Poots, Romola Garai, Anya Taylor-Joy, Hayley Atwell, Alicia Vikander, Rinko Kikuchi, Emma Stone, Margot Robbie, Lizzie Kaplan, Lena Headey, Eva Green, Rachel Weisz, Kaya Scodelario, Melanie Laurent, Lea Seydoux, Ellen page, Keira Knightley, Brie Larson, Anna Kendrick, Karen Gillian, Rebecca Hall, Gugu Mbatha-Raw
AND MORE. I can never finish the lists (thank).
Up next: Leaving (2012)-- In which Helen McCrory (the babest) as Julie Ranmore is irresistible, and poor Aaron Hughes, like us mere mortals, is powerless (it is that type of soap-opera, yes - but these two’s acting definitely elevated it to a degree.)
Tumblr media
PS. Maybe he’s obscure for now, but Callum’s rumored to be in the running for playing Newt Scamander’s older brother in the next Fantastic Beasts. Boom.

Coming Attractions December 2019
Tumblr media
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released. These are the movies what will be hitting your local cinemas this month:
December 6th
The Aeronauts - Theory of Everything stars Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne reunited for this true story about early aviation and the use of gas balloons. The film begins a limited theatrical run this week but it will be much easier for everyone to find on Amazon Prime beginning December 20. The film got great reviews out of the Toronto International Film Festival and I can’t wait to check it out later this month.
Playmobil: The Movie - Originally this animated film based on the German building toy was set for release in January of 2019, 11 months ago. Then it was delayed to April, and again to August before finally being set for December. The film was still released in Europe this past summer where it was met with abysmal reviews and bombed at the box office. I doubt it will fare any better here.
A Million Little Pieces - Remember back in 2006 when it revealed that Jame Frey’s 2003 best-selling memoir wasn’t in fact a memoir at all but instead was a fabricated fictional story? Well, they made a movie out of it (the book, not the controversy). Here’s hoping the film, from the director of Fifty Shades of Grey and the vastly underrated Nowhere Boy, begins with a title card that says “Not Based on A True Story.”
December 13th
Jumanji: The Next Level - After making almost a billion dollars worldwide in 2017, the Jumanji gang is back for a new adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and am eager to see if this sequel builds that film’s success.
Black Christmas - There is no more suitable release date for a Christmas-set slasher movie than a Friday the 13th in December. This is the second remake of 1974′s acclaimed horror film of the same name, after the 2006 Black Christmas which received mostly negative reviews. Hopefully, the inclusion of horror producer Jason Blum will lead to a better outcome for this new version.
Uncut Gems - Opening in limited release today, and set for a wide release on Christmas Day is Uncut Gems, the crime thriller from the Safdie brothers and starring Adam Sandler. This film is earning universal acclaim, will a lot of that focused on Sandler’s performance. Keep an eye on this one.
6 Underground - Hitting Netflix today is the action thriller 6 Underground starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Michael Bay. Usually, Michael Bay’s over-the-top action films are perfect for seeing in a movie theater, so I am curious how 6 Underground will play for audiences at home.
Bombshell - Directed by political true story maven Jay Roach (Recount), Bombshell, starring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, tells the story of sexual harassment at Fox News by Roger Ailes (played by John Lithgow). Bombshell is set for a limited release this week before going wide on December 20th.
Richard Jewell - Clint Eastwood directs the award season bait, Richard Jewell, the story of a man at the center of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. So if you are looking for a movie about why you should distrust your government and the media, Eastwood’s newest film caters to you. All that aside, the film looks great is already garnering positive reviews and buzz for its leading man, Paul Walter Hauser.
December 20th
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - Here is it, the end of the Skywalker Saga. Episode IX. After Rise of Skywalker, there will be a three-year gap in Star Wars movies with the next film slated for December 2022. But don’t worry, you still have new episodes of The Mandalorian and other shows coming to Disney+ to hold you over.
Cats - Nope.
December 25th
Spies in Disguise - Featuring the voices of Will Smith and Tom Holland, this animated comedy follows the world’s best spy as he teams up with a young genius who accidentally turns him into a bird. Oops.
Little Women - Greta Gerwig directs this eighth film adaption of the 1868 novel of the same name. The most recent adaptation in 1994 starred Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Christian Bale, and Susan Sarandon. This new version has an equally impressive, if not superior cast, of Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, Timothee Chalmet, and Meryl Streep.
1917 - Opening in limited release this month and set for wide release on January 10th is 1917, the World War I drama from director Sam Mendes and cinematographer Roger Deakins. The film has earned early rave reviews from recent press screenings and could be the final entrant in the crusade for Best Picture.
Just Mercy - Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, and Brie Larson star in this true-life legal drama. Just Mercy premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to generally favorable reviews.
Now for a quick look ahead to January, my top picks for next month are Bad Boys for Life, Underwater, and Dolittle.

All of Marvel’s Big Announcements from San Diego Comic-Con
Let’s just face it—we live in a superhero world. Over the last few years, there’s been a steady rhythm: one Marvel movie barely leaves theatres before another one rolls in. And if the latest announcements from Marvel Studios are anything to go by, we’d better get used to it. While Marvel’s hegemony isn’t necessarily what we want for the future of the film industry, there is some good news: the studio seems to be making a concerted effort to push for a more diverse array of stories, bringing indie film directors on board as well as a slew of talented women and actors of colour.
Over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige unveiled a slate of new movies and projects as part of the franchise’s “Phase Four.” (Quick recap: Phase One introduced its marquee hero vehicles, including Iron Man, Captain America and Thor; Phase Two expanded the universe with Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy; and Phase Three began brought forth more diverse stories like Black Panther and Captain Marvel.) By the looks of it, Phase Four is going to be the MCU’s most diverse and boundary-pushing undertaking yet. The announcements—and accompanying hysteria—were major: Mahershala Ali! Angelina Jolie! The franchise’s first Chinese superhero! Its first openly queer superhero! Read on for all the biggest announcements out of SDCC this year, and what you can expect to see hitting your screens over the next few years.
Canadian actor Simu Liu cast as the lead in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
In the ultimate example of wish fulfillment, Kim’s Convenience’s Simu Liu tweeted at Marvel in December 2018 when news of an Asian-led superhero film first broke, throwing his hat in the ring. Half a year later, the Canadian actor/stuntman has been announced as Shang-Chi, a character often referred to as a master of Kung-Fu in the comics. Awkwafina and Tony Leung are set to co-star, and if that weren’t exciting enough, Marvel has tapped indie director Destin Daniel Cretton (whose previous works include Short Term 12 and The Glass Castle, both starring Brie Larson) to helm the film. Liu, who screen-tested for the film in New York just two days before SDCC, still seemed slightly in shock. “I feel like I was kind of this social experiment,” Liu told the crowd. “Like, ‘Let’s just take this guy, this ordinary guy living in Toronto, let’s tell him he’s going to be in the next Marvel movie, and give him, like, four days to prep for it.’”
Thanks for getting back to me https://t.co/FFRuM03p20

Natalie Portman takes over as the new Thor
Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will both return for Thor: Love and Thunder but in a surprising twist, it turns out Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will take over as the titular character. Fans of the comic books would have seen this coming, though, because as Variety notes, a 2014 comic-book storyline saw the astrophysicist (and Thor’s love interest) taking on the title of Thor, Goddess of Thunder, when she’s deemed worthy of the superhero’s legendary hammer, Mjolnir. “We love the story—it’s one of the best comic runs recently,” said Feige. “[Director Taika Waititi] would flip through and read that run while he was doing Ragnarok. And I think when he agreed to come back and do another Thor, he was like, ‘How do we–?’ This is a very big movie that’ll be folding in a lot of elements. That is a huge important part of it. He pitched it to us, and we were totally in. We loved it. We’d been in touch with Natalie. She’s part of the MCU family and we put [her] and Taika together. It took one meeting and she agreed to do it.”
Mahershala Ali is the star of the Blade reboot
It’s been over 20 years since Wesley Snipes appeared on our screens as Blade, a superhero who protects humans from vampires. After two more films with Snipes at the helm, the torch is now being passed on to Mahershala Ali, who will play the protagonist in the upcoming resurrection of the cult film. While the two-time Oscar winner was their “dream casting” for the role, it turns out it was actually Ali who approached the studio, giving Marvel a call shortly after his Oscar win for Green Book. “When Mahershala calls, you answer,” Feige told The Hollywood Reporter. At a subsequent meeting, Ali expressed his interest in taking on the role, and well, here we are.

Tessa Thompson as MCU’s first openly queer superhero
It looks like Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, a character who’s already been established as bisexual in the comics, is finally going to be out and proud on screen. ICYMI, Valkyrie inherited the King of Asgard title from Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in Avengers: Endgame and over the weekend Thompson revealed what might be next on her agenda. “First of all, as new King, she needs to find her queen, so that will be her first order of business,” she told a room full of screaming fans.

The Eternals reveals a star-studded cast
“We wanted to do our big ensemble like we did in Phase Two with Guardians, and that’s what Eternals is,” Feige told CNN. The cast boasts some serious heavy hitters including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani. It also stars Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry and Lauren Ridloff, who will portray the franchise’s first deaf superhero. Beijing-born indie director Chloe Zhao, whose last film The Rider was hugely acclaimed at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival—is on board to direct.

The Black Widow prequel is finally confirmed
After years of rumours, the Black Widow prequel outlining the Russian assassin’s origin story has been confirmed. Starring Scarlett Johansson (as a human, though, not an animal or a tree), Rachel Weisz, Florence Pugh and Stranger Things’ David Harbour, the film will explore Natasha Romanov’s shrouded-in-mystery past. “I think you’ll learn about what Natasha is afraid of, and I think you’ll learn about what parts of herself she’s afraid of,” said Johansson at the panel. “You really see her in, like, a pretty broken-down place, and she kinda has to build herself back up and pull all the pieces together in this film. It gets kind of gnarly, but good gnarly.”

Marvel’s Phase Four Plans Are Officially Revealed at Comic-Con
“Avengers: Endgame” may have closed a chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the blockbuster factory is not slowing down and only expanding in scope and diversity.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige led a marathon presentation at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday night, announcing plans for the first two years of “Phase Four,” which will include Natalie Portman taking up the hammer as Thor, making Angelina Jolie an immortal for “The Eternals” and rebooting “Blade” with Mahershala Ali.
The stars assembled in the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H as Feige ticked through the release calendar for 2020 and 2021 movie by movie, giving official cast lists, release dates, titles and logos for everything from “Black Widow,” the “Doctor Strange” sequel, “Thor 4” to “Shang-Chi” to “The Eternals.”
“I’m so excited to be here,” Jolie told the crowd.
She said she’s going to work “10 times harder” than she has on any of her other action roles because she knows what it means to “be part of the MCU” and “part of this family.”
Jolie, who is playing the character Thena, was joined by her “The Eternals” cast mates including Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek and Brian Tyree Henry, as well as director Chloé Zhao.
“I just really, really wanted to make a Marvel movie for so long,” Zhao said.
It’s set for release on Nov. 6, 2020, after “Black Widow” kicks things off on May 1 with Scarlett Johansson, as well as “Stranger Things” breakout David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh. Audiences got a look at some early footage from the Cate Shortland-directed film showing Johansson and Pugh in some Bourne Identity-style hand-to-hand combat.
Marvel also revealed that newcomer Simu Liu will be playing the lead role in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and coming to theaters on Feb. 12, 2021. He’ll star alongside Awkwafina and Chinese actor Tony Leung, who is playing The Mandarin.
“This is the craziest, craziest dream,” said Liu, who was literally cast on Tuesday.
The third film of 2021, after “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which director Scott Derrickson said will be Marvel’s “first horror movie,” is perhaps the most anticipated, however: “Thor 4.”
Portman, who played Jane in the first two Thor films, will be remerging as the female Thor. She ran out on stage to thunderous applause and accepted the hammer from a kneeling Taika Waititi.
Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will also be returning for the Waititi-directed “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which is set for release on Nov. 2, 2021.
Feige brought out some familiar MCU stars from Tom Hiddleston and Sebastian Stan to Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner to tease some of the upcoming Disney+ “event series” including “Hawkeye,” ”The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” ”WandaVision,” ”Loki” and the animated series “What If…?”
Fans were excited to learn that the little girl in Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, will be joining “WandaVision” as a grown woman played by MCU newcomer Teyonah Parris.
The energy in Hall H was electric for what was easily the most high-profile and anticipated presentation. The audience only knew going in that Feige would be joined by some “special guests.”
Tense security guards managing the estimated 8,000 people in the room even inadvertently snapped at “Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who were trying to figure out where to go in the melee.
Although the studio took a year off from Comic-Con last year, it has a long history of announcing some of its biggest plans at the fan convention.
Nine years ago, Marvel wowed Hall H when the Avengers, including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, appeared on stage for the first time together. It’s also where the studio introduced Brie Larson as Captain Marvel three years ago and brought the house down with the first look at “Black Panther.”
And even though the presentation hardly took a breather, there were still a number of upcoming films, some rumored and some confirmed, that they couldn’t get to including “Black Panther 2,” ”Guardians of the Galaxy 3,” and even, Feige teased, “Fantastic Four” and “Mutants.”
“But all that stuff is rumored,” he said with a smile.
He closed out the presentation dropping the “Blade” reboot news and Ali’s casting, which hadn’t yet even become a rumor to speculate about. Wesley Snipes played the character in the 1998 film.
Ali came out on stage and put on a “Blade” baseball cap as the crowd went wild. No other details were revealed about the project.
Marvel’s impact on Hollywood over the past 11 years is hard to understate. This year alone, three of the top five movies are Marvel properties (“Avengers: Endgame” is No. 1, “Captain Marvel” is No. 2, and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is currently No. 5 after just three weeks in theaters).
They also account for three of the top five grossing domestic release of all time, unadjusted for inflation. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” holds the first place spot, but then comes “Avengers: Endgame” at two, “Black Panther” at four and “Avengers: Infinity War” at five.
And combined, with over $22.3 billion in worldwide earnings, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is by far the most successful franchise of all time.
With the recent partnership with Sony on Spider-Man and the Walt Disney Co.’s acquisition of Fox, all the missing pieces (including X-Men, Deadpool and The Fantastic Four) are coming together too under the Marvel Studios banner.
Feige also said Saturday that in just a few days, not accounting for inflation, “Avengers: Endgame” will also surpass “Avatar” as the highest grossing film of all time.
He even brought his top Marvel Studios people out on stage to celebrate the moment of having completed the 23-movie “Infinity Saga.”
“We started here,” Feige told the room of screaming fans. “I never thought it would happen, and it never would have happened if it wasn’t for you.”
