Rereading Catching Fire after having read TBOSAS is interesting because Snow's entire pr strategy around the quarter quell is based entirely on his way of thinking and fails precisely because of its flaws

He puts Katniss in her wedding dress for her interview because he wants people in Panem to know that nothing will save them, because what he sees is a stupid kid who stepped out of line and needs to be eliminated for it

But because he thinks compassion, sympathy, and treating other humans like valuable people are stupid, worthless weaknesses for inferior people, he fails to anticipate that the rest of Panem will see one more injustice done to the Districts, and a hand twisting the knife as hard as it can for no reason

He fails to anticipate that even in the Capitol people have hearts, and there's only so long you can spend watching the same people on TV before you grow attached to a couple of them in some way, and thus will be sad when they die unnatural and unfair deaths (and maybe even start wondering why the rules can't change after all)

I've been binging Batman Beyond recently (Terry ily so much) and thought about how- bc of the JLU twist which I think isn't even canon to the comics BB verse but shhh bare with me- he'd technically be Damian's half brother??? Which is just so ridiculously soap opera to me. I need them to interact in a silly time travel adventure so bad you don't even understand (ID in alt)

You know, I feel like the falling out between Katniss and Gale is framed as a choice between him and Peeta for romantic interest and there's a part of it that is that

But at the same time I think Peeta not being in the picture romantically wouldn't have prevented it, and the two of them wouldn't have worked out in the long run even if they gave it a go

Gale thinks too much like the Capitol for that

ETA: Like. He's definitely a hero and what's left of district 12 owes their lives to him AND there's no guarantee that under Coin's government he would have turned to horrible things... But he showed a knack for it and for coming up with ideas that were ultimately very similar to the way Gamemakers think and that's too opposed to how Katniss looks at thing for them to work, Peeta or no Peeta

#literally the scene of Nami reading Zoro Noland’s book at the Baratie is my favorite addition #cause East Blue Nami is so damn prideful so seeing her do something that seems silly-#(reading to someone who isn’t listening)#-is such a fun way to mark her progress as a character #I can see her being the one to remind Sanji of Zeff’s advice and the act of reading to Zoro being a way to process the sort of.#hit to his pride and even self-perception that is Zoro’s interference in Thriller Bark.#why did Zoro stop him? Why would Zoro want to die in his place? Choose his dream instead of his own?#(maybe because he knew that sitting by your friend still body- helpless- is the worst feeling in the world)#Aside from this though I can specifically see the book being about the All Blue working #cause its a reminder about what a wonderful dream Sanji has.
