The wind picked up and they were close. Giggling pattered off into the calm sounds of Yunmeng’s summer; the lapping of water against wood, the creaking of the bamboo shades hanging from above, the jiggling of Jiang spirit bells in the wind.
Their eyes met just before their lips did and suddenly it was no mere peck anymore. Suddenly the world was full of colours Qin Su had never dared to see before.

We’re back! (And for everyone expecting this to come out 3 days ago, I'm sorry, we failed, but we are here!)
Ever find that one song that always makes you think of a favorite character, pairing, ship, or friendship? This is for the songs that won't leave your head when you read a fic, the songs you play on repeat incessantly, the ones that get added to those character dedicated playlists we all have.
So why not have an exchange where someone listens to that song, over and over and over, and then writes you a fic on it?

“Perhaps, though I can't say I'm any less angry than I usually am. Just better at not unleashing it wantonly.” Jiang Cheng kicked an offensive clump of grass. “I've learned though, on matters that were purposefully kept from my knowledge that I can't blame myself for not knowing, y’know?”
Lan Xichen regarded him quietly without answering. Could it really be that simple?
“At least that's what I think. But perhaps I'm not making much sense.” Jiang Cheng winced.
“Not at all,” Lan Xichen smiled gently. “If anything, you’ve given me something to ponder. Something that makes my previous involvements less…bleak.”
Jiang Cheng smiled. “I’m happy I could help, Zewu-jun.”
Lan Xichen found himself taken aback. Jiang Cheng's smile wasn't something sardonic or sneering like he'd seen in the past. But once again, it was a hint at a youth he'd seen long ago. It was hesitant and boyish, a refreshing sight after so many memories of fox-curled lips plastered to the sparks against snow.

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?
Oh yeah... this one, They Say Time Heals Everything, but I'm Still Waiting. It's a fic I wrote for the MDZS Mixtape exchange the other year, not my original assignment (that had been the WangSang fic I did for a prompt by mars, a real joy to write) but a pinch-hit I picked up since my first was done so quickly. The pairing was WangXian - not the reason it was so hard, but didn't help (I'm not exactly known for writing them much, and then mostly in the background) - and the song choice wasn't a bad one, but... the lyrics kept wanting to go in a direction that I did NOT want to go in, leaned toward an interpretation of canon events I definitely do not subscribe to, and I kept overthinking it and worrying that the giftee was going to be expecting something and I'd be giving them something altogether different and they would be so disappointed, and I hated the idea of disappointing them. I did the best I could and sent it to a beta, and the beta indicated many places it needed work, so that was more work. The biggest irony - the last scene was something I did completely in self-indulgence (post-canon one braincell trio + lwj reunion), and when the giftee responded, that was the bit they liked most. Ugh! If I'd just stopped overthinking things and just went with my guts from the beginning and tried to have fun with it, it would have gone so much easier. But it felt like such a chore, and probably the fic of mine I re-read the least tbh, if only for the sense memories of frustration involved in it.

Kay's comments: What an amazing story this was!! It was poetic and beautifully written. The scene and mood setting just really got to me. Disclaimer that I'm biased since this story was written for me and it just ticked all the right boxes, so of course, I love it. It's post-canon established Wangxian, but most of the chapter depicts a nightmare Wei Wuxian is having, remembering his time in the Burial Mounds. Really delivers well on the hurt/comfort.
Excerpt: Darkness is either a reprieve or an agony.
In the Burial Mounds, surrounded by bone and writhing, ravenous death, the darkness was all that existed. In those dark, desolate months, Wei Wuxian was weighed down by a fog of confusion and chaos, trailed by shadows that had red slitted eyes and sharp rows of bloodstained teeth. There was nothing to cling onto. There was no escape.
It was an unending nightmare. He drifted in and out of consciousness - the only stars that accompanied him were the ones that shone bright from memory, more a cruel taunt than anything else. Yet somehow, those ragged threads of bygone days were all he could follow out of that hell; the scattered light at the end of the tunnel. The stars he yearned and bled to see again.
He could not die there. Wei Wuxian refused it.
