“I’m sorry,” Kon says, voice painfully tight and this close to cracking. “I didn’t–I was gonna–”

He was gonna . . . what, exactly? Tell Clark? Because actually, no, he really wasn’t. He was never going to. 

He never would’ve, if he’d had the choice. 

“Talk to me, Kon,” Clark says, gentling his grip on his wrist and stepping in closer. Kon feels nauseous. Feels weak and stupid and like the worst fucking person he could possibly be. Feels like a fake. 

Like a liar. 

He’s always, always been a liar. He was born one. 

“I’m not a real guy,” he manages, digging his fingers into his arm. “I mean–Cadmus made me wrong. Like, they fucked up and I–I came out wrong. So I’m . . .” 

“When you say not ‘real’ . . .” Clark trails off, just barely frowning. Kon ducks his head. Stares down at the blurry dirt. Doesn’t fucking cry, because he’s not that pathetic.

He’ll cry when Clark can’t see him being pathetic. 

“I mean I’m trans,” he says. “I just–I’ve got, you know . . . I’m pre-op, or whatever. So I can still–so I’m pregnant.” 

Does Clark even know what the fuck “pre-op” actually means? He’s a smart guy, he knows a lot of shit; he must, right? He’s got the eidetic memory thing going for him, if nothing else. And it’s, like . . . kind of intuitive anyway, right? 

God, he doesn’t want to talk about this. He doesn’t want to have ever had to talk about this. Why does he have to talk about this? 

“Okay,” Clark says, his own voice a little tight now. He doesn’t let go of Kon’s wrist. “Kon. That’s not–that doesn’t make you not a ‘real’ man. Not to anyone who matters. Certainly not to me.” 

“I’m pregnant,” Kon says bitterly, choking on the words. “I didn’t–I’m not–I’m not a real man. I’m not–I’m just this fucking fucked-up idiot who can’t even use fucking birth control right!” 

“I can take you to the Fortress. Get either prenatal care or an abortion set up for you. No one you don’t want to tell would have to know either way,” Clark says very, very gently, and alright, apparently Kon is going to be pathetic enough to cry in front of him, he realizes as his eyes start burning with definitely-not-heat-vision. “As far as I’m concerned you can stay up there ‘til they’re born, if you want. Just tell everyone they’re a binary clone too, or that I let you use the birthing matrix to make them.” 

Kon is going to do a lot worse than just cry a little, actually. 

He can’t even say anything to that offer. He just bursts into helpless, body-wracking sobs, and Clark wraps him up in his arms and tucks his face into his shoulder as he strokes his back. 

Kon doesn’t know how he feels about the fact that both of the people he’s told about this so far have offered to lie for him about it. 

Instead of getting mad at him for lying about it, he means.

I personally fell in love with Trip Fontaine. Very cute in that 70s fuckboy kind of way and I loved him as Trip even though he did my girl Lux wrong

But there's been a resurgence when Oppenheimer came out bc baby...baaaaabyyyy 😭 me and the bestie kept trying to stay focused but it was HARD and I could not place where I knew this man from and then when I got home I went OMFG HE LEFT LUX ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD TRIP FUCKING FONTAINE but Josh in Oppenheimer was sum serious. I needed him to bend me ova the desk. Need that extra credit. We kept calling him Clark Kent bc he was definitely giving a Clark Kent vibe in this movie. Just smart and sexy for no reason!

Your books shelf looks so fancy! Would you be willing to recommend one or two from your shelf of a paranormal bent? Plz?

I'm not quite sure what kind of paranormal you're looking for, and most of my recs are of the werewolf-y kind, so let me start with the non-werewolf stuff

Not Dead Yet by Jenn Burke - a sort of paranormal PI type story featuring a half-ghost MC. This trilogy is very well written and there's great world-building, but there is a plot decision in the third book that mildly infuriates me.

So this one, I give 8/10 just because of that.

NOX by Adrienne Wilder -- This one does include wolves, but the story is so unique I don't consider it part of the werewolf genre. I haven't started book 2 yet, but this one was great. I read it last year, so I can't recall a whole heckuva lot, but from what I remember, 10/10.

Forbidden Desires by Piper Scott & Virginia Kelly -- A light-hearted / humorous series about dragon brothers finding their mates. Book 2 has some secondhand embarrassment moments, but overall, I liked this series. You have to go into it expecting a "crack taken seriously" vibe, but if you don't expect too much, you'll enjoy it. Fair warning, there is egg-laying. 7.5/10

Poisonwood by Sam Burns -- About a very reluctant incubus who falls in love with a reclusive bear shifter. The other books that come after are good as well, but this one is my favorite. 8/10

Sam Burns' other stuff is good, too. I haven't read it all, but there's usually a magical element to their books, so you can't go wrong.

Wolves of Kismet is a particular favorite of mine. An A/B/O story about a freshly formed packed, complete with newly bitten wolves. Which is rare to see in the genre! I give this one a 9/10, too.

Speaking of wolves, a quick rundown of some of those series:

Mismatched Mates by Eliot Grayson -- This author writes in first POV, but they're the only person I've found so far that does it well. This whole series is basically dedicated to the "soulbond or die" trope with a few exceptions toward the end of the series. There is a lot of world-building, some big battles, magic users, and a more traditional take on werewolves. aka, no Omegas to be found here. But I very much like it, 9/10

Kindcaid Pack by Kiki Clark -- This one is a shifter story, not just werewolves. There's tigers, birds, cougars, etc. I don't often like ones that include a menagerie of animals, but this one is good. It's also another 'verse that doesn't include Omegas. I don't know if that's a pro or a con for you, but it's worth mentioning either way. 8/10

Omega Required by Dessa Lux -- This one hits all my H/C buttons, and you know how I am about that. A good A/B/O story with world-building and hurt Omegas in need of comfort. I like the second book, too, but this one is the one I tend to think about when it's time to re-read the series. 9/10
