I sent you an anon that you replied to on April 1st, which was me asking how ex-TIFs are received back into womanhood. Your reply gave me a little foothold which ended up very comforting as I started coming out rapid-fire to all my friends as detrans. this is primarily a message for other people in my situation, who are afraid and might want a template of what you might expect will happen once you do come out with it.

Predictably, most of my friends dropped me; I've 3 friends left. Two of which continue to support trans people but can accept that i have different opinions (as long as i'm "not mean") and one of which has seen the gender critical arguments, accepted them, and agrees. So, heavy losses, but not total losses. My two siblings seemed to sigh in relief and reveal that they never believed in genderism at all, which is odd, because in my 10 years of being trans not one of them challenged me on it. my mom fell into heavy guilt over "letting me" do all this, although i was 18 when i took testo and 19 when i got surgery, so she really could not have stopped me, legally. i suppose she mainly grieves knowing that had she had the right arguments she could have saved her kid this, but i've told her she is not to blame and i hope she recognizes that.

i haven't received any real harassment, not from anyone that i PERSONALLY know, though my family has received... harassment targeted at me? my sister had a classmate begin sending her copious pro-trans propaganda (contrapoints videos) which she instructed should be sent onward to me (sis did not comply). hilarious how my 10 years of direct experience is suddenly null and void and i'm assumed to know nothing about transness.... 6 months ago i was helping people sensitivity-write trans characters. now, i'm told i can't speak for the trans experience at all, and that i do not know what it's like to be a transmasc person. told that i need to listen to the arguments more carefully, that i don't LISTEN, when i literally lived this for 10 whole years. girl, on god? they tell me i don't get it and need to educate myself. and have empathy of course.

but in general, detransing, i've discovered that there are PLENTY of people who do not actually believe in genderism but who will play along simply out of fear or social pressure. my friends aside, who i knew through "queer" circles, everyone in my family (expect my mom) has revealed they never actually believed in it. i think this might contribute to why trans people bully dissenters so badly. they know this is the truth, that no one really buys it. i think, subconsciously, i have known that too. i never downloaded grindr, i never went into the men's bathrooms. i knew that despite testo and surgery and pronouns i could never challenge men as an equal in their eyes.

interestingly, making new friends is not that hard. I lead with the fact i'm detrans and "don't believe in all that shit" and people are VERY eager to be able to, suddenly, voice their real opinions without being called transphobic. they begin with probing questions, uncontroversial statements like "i agree they shouldn't put males in women's sports..." but if you continue to agree and not punish this daring on their part, they will reveal, with much relief and enthusiasm, what they really think. most people, normal people, really do not believe it all? i'm a brash person and can take irl confrontations quite well, hence i feel safe putting myself up as a transphobe off the bat. and people are very into this. so. the old ass saying, just be yourself.... normal people will not volunteer anti-genderist opinions on their own but when i continue to state thing after thing they open up and agree and eventually feel safe enough to admit their own thoughts. making friends, especially with non-gendie women, hasn't been that hard.

i'm going to write another message about same-sex attraction in the genderverse, but it's also a can of worms so i will make it separate from this one. again, thank you so much, for having anon on and listening, and letting us listen to each other without fear. i would hug you. to be continued

My only comment is that I think most people play along out of kindness, it's not all bullying and fear, but that does impose a silence on everyone so everyone feels quite alone with their doubts.

one step closer and i'm real by @officialmood • daniel ricciardo/max verstappen • time travel, alternate universes (this fic is exquisite, every version of daniel that max meets is distinctly different and broke my heart in a multitude of ways. made my heart twist in the best way.)

all this happened, more or less by multi21 • charles leclerc/max verstappen • social media, canon divergence (so much fun and so inspired! charles is a secret singer-songwriter, told through social media posts and devastating lyrics, le castellet is in my head at any given moment. went with this for story hangover because i thought about it for Days afterwards and then charles literally put his music on spotify. drop the escalier des fleurs content charles!!)

I've sort of a similar question but in reverse to the recent ask that wanted to know how to open up about feedism to her boyfriend; I am a man who is very interested in bigger women, simply put. I suppose there are two questions at hand, really;

1) Tips on opening up on being into the feedism from the feeder perspective to someone who doesn't know about it? Taking it slow, like all kink, is a given.

2) Tips on, shall we say, seducing someone into feedism? Essentially, how do you hit a feedee up without looking like a creep? I'm assuming that the person seems compatible enough in other ways for the relationship to be more than just a wankfest.

Okaayyyy let’s address this one.

1) It really doesn’t matter whether you’re a feeder or a feedee- my advice on “coming out” as a feedist remains the same. Show them a copy of the jar of kinks and be prepared to defend feedism if they have misconceptions.

2) I think you could really use help with this. One word. RESPECT. Categorizing your potential dates as either “wankfest” or “more than just a wankfest” gave me major creep vibes so you’ve definitely got some work to do. Also I’m confused? Are you seducing someone into feedism or are you approaching a feedee cause those seem like two entirely different situations. Or do you need tips on seducing someone that’s into feedism? I’m gonna make a judgement call and say that the latter of those options was what you meant. In that case let’s get into it. One thing to remember is that there’s a looootttt of men attempting to go after any given female feedee (I’m using male vs female because the asker is specified as male seeking advice for pursuing females). (Be respectful obviously) but you’ve also got to stand out a little bit. If I were in the game, only after setting up a detailed profile with pictures and interesting facts about myself and what I’m looking for (that focus less on feedism/fetishy stuff), I’d maybe draft up a message that I feel really confident about sending as an opener to someone I’m interested in. Then when you find someone you’re interested in, take that message template and jazz it up and personalize it enough to send out to that specific girl. Example:

Hey “name” [insert compliment here (don’t make this a sexualized compliment)], I think it’s so cool you’re into [mention something from her bio or a recent post she made (because you definitely did some digging on her page and looked at more than just her pics before sending this message)]. You know I [relate to that interest you just mentioned]! So it’s so cool too see someone else into that thing too! Oh btw wanted to ask [a question that you think she won’t be able to resist answering]. Anyways, yeah! I think you’re cool (or something like that) gonna go (say something cool here dork) and hope you message me back :)

Ok not the best but I literally came up with that in like 2 seconds. Notice how I mentioned the part about asking her a question that you think she won’t be able to resist answering. If you’ve read this far then you’re gonna get the juiciest tip in the world right now. I don’t reply to messages sent to me privately. Not ever. Unless someone mentions something that I just can’t resist putting my 2 cents in on. And I can assure you, everyone’s got something. If you happen to guess the right subject, then you’re guaranteed a reply.

Also, keep in mind that my advice is not fool proof. Just because you put the effort in doesn’t mean that the person you’re messaging owes you a response. Get comfortable with rejection. And listen, if you do what I say, and put a lot of effort into approaching a woman and she doesn’t reply, don’t immediately take that as a loss. Why would you want a reply from someone who doesn’t appreciate all the effort you put forth or see the value in that? The answer is you don’t, move on! You’ll find someone that does.

!! HEAVY SPOILERS FOR TWD 11x17 !!

alright, you've been warned. WELCOME BACK PEOPLE!!! i am so happy to be doing this again, it's been a long wait for 11c but it's finally here. i cannot begin to explain how excited this release has made me, and i'm really excited to just enjoy these final eight episodes.

EPISODE COMMENTARY TIME!!

i got a solid 30 seconds into the episode and i was already bawling. it might just be finally getting a new episode, but hearing judith's voice and seeing the flashbacks made it all really reminiscent. this really is the end.

"we're here to take out shithead and the dickless brigade" MAN I LOVE NEGAN god so excited for all his lines.

aaron and gabe's friendship is so refreshing, i love watching them interact with each other, it's such an interesting dynamic.

gabriel talking about how hope is almost lost is just, character development. i love the contrast between his religious spew when he was introduced, and now how he keeps mention his hope being gone and lost.

Hiii thanks for asking! This got super long so I‘m diving each one with a ——— so it’s easier to read!

Officially, my first oc was/is Tomato the tomato girl, whom I made as a 12y old for a jump n run game called "Tomato and the quest for Spaghetti“ in one of those "make your own game“ online thingies that give you a bunch of small game templates to edit. The plot was (iirc) either that the holy Spagetti was stolen or lost, or that there was no ketchup left for said spaghetti and she went out to find it. …don’t think too much about the implications of the latter one.

I still "use“ her the way I "use“ most ocs I’ve got; that is, making them in character creators and occasionally drawing them if I‘m bored, as cameos, or memes. So not actively.

Since she’s basically been "dormant“ since I was 15, only her looks changed, mostly!

Originally her hair was literally just a tomato, and the outfit was a sleeveless square dress in red with a green scarf (and isn’t that a familiar color palette?),

then it became a winter dress with sleeves,

then went back to the first one but the scarf was gone and tried to actually draw her a bit rounder,

gained a friend and the hair‘s become regular hair,

ran both looks parallel as seasonal outfits,

and then I was 15. Have been sitting on a potential "future“ look for an older version of her, as she was originally set at ~12y old like me at the time.

Story as in character or proper story? For characters, Red‘s still the only one who both makes sense and doesn’t only feel like self-indulgence, so her :]

Actual story is…I’ve got a bunch of small "testing out how writing works“ WIP’s in the drafts (and I think 1 of them might even have been posted?) on my oc blog, but the only stories that actually ever saw the light of day were a bunch of crack fics about emojis me and my bff wrote in 6th grade. One person sent one part, and then the other one continued writing a bit from there. The greatest of them was the dramatic life and romance of the star and comet emoji.

Like. The Finale is one big fightscene on top of a volcano and also makes up half the story. The main villains are Manfred von Karma Ace Attorney and Günther Fire Emblem Fates. There’s a Yuri-on-Ice segment between the shit emoji and literal broccoli, which turns into the best romance in this entire thing and is to this day unironically the most invested I have ever been in a ship. A group of 7 only had 6 people in it and we didn’t notice until the very end. It was very bad, and very glorious.

I kid you not, if you want to have the best fun you could ever have with writing, grab yourself a friend or anyone online, and start writing an absolute crack fic with no holding back, it’ll be fun af

Aside from the absolutely best romance ever created that’s alluded to up there, for my own guys- whatever the heck is (supposed to be) going on between Violet and Mage. It’s basically "I vibe with who you are but hate what you stand for“.

Or alternatively, the arranged marriage trope but the marriage is friendship and the arrangement is Red, and also it’s enemies to rivals

Because, in principle, Violet and Mage hate each other. Violets entire life has been dictated by duties and trying her damn hardest to get good enough with light magic to meet the expectations of her family because of her high magic potential, only to fall through, and basically spent her whole life stuck in a single room with barely any contact to others let alone anything genuine. Meanwhile there’s Mage who wields his dark magic with an ease like it’s a kids toy and no problem using it for petty things, no regard for the damage it could potentially cause, can do whatever the heck he wants and go everywhere, and worst, having all the freedom in the world yet CHOOSING to lie to everyone and himself, while she has been forced to follow a script that ends with her doom.

On the other hand, Mage looks at Violet and sees another pompous royal judging him based on status differences, whose family is leeching off his hard-earned bearings just because some legend says they’ve got special god sealing juice in their line, AND she has the absolute audacity to deliberately let the people who know her think she’s still missing or even dead, when his best friend went missing 5 years ago and he never found out what happened, how dare she make others go through that pain.

They also both know the other is lying to themself basically 24/7 and reaaaallly don’t like having that mirror in front of their faces.

On the other hand, they keep having things in common, and the fact annoys them both whenever it’s pointed out. They’re both unashamedly manipulative. Mage got no problem lying and backstabbing for his own gains, while Violet has no issue using manipulation and such if that’s the "most efficient way" to solve any given problem (even if it includes pretending you’re MIA). They also very much like to tag-team to mess with others in that regard. They both hate having to play an act personality-wise, but also understand that’s often the only way to gain the best outcome of any situation.

And they‘re both absolutely nerds. Loving history, knowledge, learning things and excitedly tell others fun facts, a fascination for magic (something Violet only begrudgingly admits) and are absolutely thrilled that there’s finally another person who not only wants to listen but also KNOWS what they’re talking about and can add to it with their own info, AND they both enjoy talking to the other in general.

Basically, they would NEVER even walk near each other a 1km radius if they both hadn’t been friends with Red, but if she was ever out of the equation afterwards, there‘s a good chance they’d actually hang out with each other at least for a while (It’d inevitably fall apart. But there’s also a chance they’d hang out again perhaps, probably by accidentally being forced to work together again)

Also somewhere along the line their designs started reflecting that whole "completely opposite sides but also the same things in common“ thing a bit and I still think that’s the smartest thing I’ve ever done lmao

hello :) just wanted to drop this link to a very recent interview in which the cast talks about alternative or fake endings for their characters. i dont know if you've seen this one but josh mcdermitt (eugene's actor) mentioned beth 2 times and it definitely caught my attention. i'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

I didn’t even understand what he was talking about at first. Seems weird like, why is he mentioning Beth. But he doesn’t use her death as an example death!

Yeah, good point. It's weird to me that he points to Beth twice, because he goes out of his way to say that she "isn't there." I mean, isn't the point that this is a fantasy/fake death, which means what difference would it make if she were there or not? Even though I know that he's literally saying she's "already" dead, it almost feels like he's going out of his way to point out that she isn't around. Like maybe that's code for, "she's not dead" or, "we're going to see her soon."

Also, good point about no one using her death as an example. Not every character death is mentioned here, of course, but most of the iconic ones are. So, it's weird that no one would mention Beth's or use it as a template.

So idk why he’s mentioning Maggie and Beth?? It just seems like he’s going out of his way to mention her, whether it’s for secretive reasons or because he’s a Beth stan lol.

Especially for the second time “Beth still isn’t there” Like no duh she’s “already dead” so why would she be there…unless…????

I want to think that they're friendly. I could see Josh enjoying Emily's music. They were on TTD together and we know they all know each other through different kind of comic cons. I could really see Josh dropping some kind of coated hint. I think he is very sarcastic in his humor, very quick minded and I would not put it past him at all.

Eugene has been a Beth proxy for so many seasons especially the last 2. He and Max definitely are proxies to Daryl and Beth. So I think that plays a part in it also.

Eira has mom friend energy, but so does Prov... this could end up being a battle. But it connects off what I said before where Eira definitely has a proclivity to nag and prune metaphorically. But it’d be nice for her to have a sister figure! Since she, y’know, grew up with all those brothers. And with her closest (relationship wise) brother having died to oripathy she’s kind of lacking in that area.

Malkuth / Everitt

I mentioned before I think it’d be fun since they’re both from Kazimierz for there to be some level of prior knowledge or connection between them. Friendship at that point may be pushing it but her recognizing him as a former knight seems interesting. Especially if she was, kinda like, not a fan of him with how he ended the career or something HAHAHA. I think there’s good potential with how their energies ‘clash’. Indifference matched with enthusiasm.

It’d be our favorite kind of slow burn. But their dynamic is one that could work romantically? Maybe? Malkuth makes friends of people immediately but noticing romance is another issue. They’d BOTH be dense as hell to it until they realized they like each other. And then. Awkwardness. Or something. Could be cute!

You mentioned it and I can see it. Malkuth does need that guidance in her life. Not much to be said!

Malkuth’s culinary experiments speak for themselves. Thankfully not literally. But that has already sown the seeds of a start of something dangerous depending on how the situation resolves between them... it’d be one sided. Everitt isn’t nearly grumpy enough to get Malkuth frustrated at him. But she’d oblivious to his negative feelings otherwise.

Diluc / Sorin(Jester)

Where’s the reluctant friendship? Given what we’re simultaneously plotting right now that seems like a good ‘catchall’ for how they’d get along in the platonic sense. Diluc isn’t the most lawful type mind you, it’s not as though the underhanded tactics will disgust him as much as the personality and flippant attitude can grate.

Nah, not this time. It’s not even orientation it just sounds like a bad recipe hahaha.

This seems like an even WORSE idea. Diluc is AWFUL when it comes to family dynamics given how weird his history is what with a dead dad, mia mother, and estranged brother... not the kind of situation anyone would want to get messed up in. However, maybe Sorin could offer some comfort or guidance? ? ? ? ? ?

Nothing that couldn’t be worked through if we wanted. But especially given how they’d end up meeting in verse they’d begin their ‘ally’ arc from a very low rung and have to build up from that low level of passive antagonism. It’ll be amusing the kind of threat that has them reluctantly working together.

I was just scrolling through Facebook and saw a post from the daughter of a former employer. They're a small web dev firm in the greater Milwaukee area. Her mother is the president and her father is the administrator/bookkeeper. She is an account executive (nepotism, much?).

They just donated $1 million to the local YMCA. It is now named after their business. While I give them credit for not having it named after them specifically, I can totally imagine this is a PR move for their business. Not only is the donation a tax write off, but people will probably google the name and that will possibly direct business to them.

I can't with these people.

The job itself wasn't particularly terrible, but working for them, as people, was. I learned a lot. In fact, I credit my current career path to them. I never would have ended up an email developer if I hadn't been banished to only doing emails at the end of my time there (more on that later). They were the worst micro managers. Like, I understand the need for tracking billable hours, but they were obsessed. The admin had to have his hand in everything. The amount of control and perfectionism they had was downright pathological. We couldn't even send an email to a client without their daughter or the other account exec reading it first. And heaven forbid you send them something that wasn't perfect. I remember the president getting very angry at me for sending her something that wasn't perfect for a project she had me working on and saying to me, "I hope you don't waste [account exec]'s time by sending him things with errors like this."

A few years after I stopped working there (more on that later), a position opened up on my current team. I suggested my former coworker from there apply for the job and it took her a long time to ease up from that level of control. Her job required interacting with customers a lot and she told me how hard it was at first to hit send on an email to a customer without someone looking it over.

They went on very lavish vacations all the time. It was a small company, so they would often bring little trinkets back for you (they went to Disneyland once and brought me back a personalized Minnie Mouse keychain with my legal name on it— granted they weren't going to find one that said "Coley"). While I was aware of the vacations (and they were several in the 7 months I was a regular employee), I became even more aware when business was slowing down and I expressed my concern because I was part time and really needed the money.

There was a period where they didn't have much billable work for me (my coworker who I poached was the full time web dev) and I expressed how I was concerned about things like making my car payment. The admin decided to pay me to do a personal task that they had been wanting done, but hadn't really had the time to do it or the opportunity to pay someone to do it until I came along.

You know all those vacations they took? Well, they loved to take photos of them. And since the business started as a digital asset management company (I'd word it differently, but that would literally give away their name, LOL), they really liked to have everything archived in a certain way. So they had me go through their family photos they had saved on their server and compile and print out proof sheets for a series of binders they had. Yes, binders, as in more than one. They were all organized in different categories ([daughter] 1-5, [son] 1-3, pets, trip to [destination], Rotary Club, [city] Country Club, etc) and had to be formatted to fit a template they had made with thumbnails the proper size. And they could tell when they weren't the proper size. I would print each proof sheet and have to show it to one of them for review. That's where I originally was asked if I sent subpar work like this to the other account exec.

I was grateful they were paying me to do something, even if it was as insulting as that. And they weren't paying me very well, either. I made the rookie mistake of disclosing my current hourly rate at my retail jobs during my interview and they took full advantage of that and paid me a whopping $12/hr (in 2015/2016, but still).

So how did I end up leaving there? Funny story: one day my coworker was sick and I had to do all of the things she would normally do without her being at a desk right behind me to ask for help if I needed it. I was uploading a client's site to the servers and accidentally entered in a command that somehow managed to knock all the websites offline. We're talking 100+ small business websites. But the kicker was that this was during my last semester of school and happened literally right before I had to leave for a class. I didn't know how to fix it. The other account exec asked me what time my class started. I looked up at the wall clock and said, "10 minutes ago." He told me I could leave to go to my class. Apparently he made the wrong call.

When I was in class, I always kept my phone on silent and only checked it during breaks. I had many missed calls and text messages from both the admin and the daughter. They were pissed that I wasn't answering my phone. But honestly, it wasn't like I could have done much to help anyway. I didn't know what exactly I did and I certainly didn't know how to fix it. They ended up having to have the guy who built the system fix it (he worked for them on sort of a freelance basis).

This happened on a Monday. The rest of the week, I'd text the other account exec every morning and see if they had any work for me to do. He kept saying no. By Thursday, I finally asked what was up and he told me to talk to the admin. I went in and we talked in his office.

He basically ripped me a new one. He told me that anywhere else, I would have easily been fired for this, but they were going to keep me on for a minimal basis. They didn't want me to work on any websites, but they'd still have me build emails for one client that I had been building them for. He did raise my hourly rate to $15/hr, but that was all they were going to allow me to do. No more of the photo project. Just those periodic emails.

Quick note about the emails: one of the things that always pissed me off about their lavish vacations was that they were always reluctant to spend money for their business. If you aren't familiar with HTML email, let me tell you how it's a different beast from regular web dev. Because there are so many different email clients (Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, etc) and so many ways to access them (in the browser, on an app on your phone, standalone desktop programs specifically for Outlook), there are so many factors to consider when building emails. It might look great on one client (sometimes even just one version of that client), but it'll look like shit on another (pretty much always Outlook, TBH). What it really comes down to is what is going to look best for your main audience. It's nearly impossible to get things to look the same everywhere.

That being said, there are tools to help you preview how your email is going to look on multiple platforms, but they often cost money. The admin refused to spend money on them, so I created a virtual Windows machine on the Mac I used and installed Outlook from a CD-ROM my mom had gotten from when she went back to school and used a free service to test send the emails to myself and see how it looked in Outlook). They were impressed with my workaround that cost them $0, but honestly I was annoyed that they refused to spend money on a tool that would have made the task easier. Especially after they took a trip to Hawaii that winter 🙄

Eventually, they stopped having me come in to even do those emails. They never officially fired me, though. There was a reason for that: when I started that job, I was on unemployment. I had been laid off from a job about 2 years prior and had yet to find a full time job. In Wisconsin, as long as you're working less than 32 hours, you can collect unemployment. I was still filing for unemployment when I started and the admin called me into his office after receiving paperwork to validate my unemployment. He was super pissed about it because he said they personally had to pay that money. I honestly had and still don't have any idea how exactly that worked, so I promised to stop filing for unemployment after starting there. There definitely were weeks I wouldn't have qualified (I was still working part time retail), so I conceded to his request. That's why they put me on the photo project: so I wouldn't file unemployment. When they stopped having me come in and work on stuff, they didn't outright fire me because if they had, I could have collected unemployment. Sneaky bastards, amirite?

This reminds me a funny story: the reason I got on unemployment in the first place is I was working at a bank and got laid off. I kept in touch with some of my coworkers and one told me something hilarious that happened. The teller supervisor, who was a bitch and hated me (once she literally grabbed me by the arm and told me, "We don't wear corduroys here," while I had the camera on to talk to a customer at the drive-thru), got caught forging people's signatures on paperwork. I don't think it was anything serious or malicious, just that she didn't want to have to ask people to do it so she could go home sooner. Apparently, when she got caught, the branch manager called her into his office. He gave her the option to resign and not face the consequences (she was pushing 70). She said, so loudly that everyone in the branch could hear her, "I am not resigning! You better fire me so I can collect unemployment!"

At any rate, I struggled that summer. I finished my degree in April and applied for a bunch of jobs, but didn't find one for a few months. I was living with my dad and uncle, so I had a roof over my head, but I still had a car payment and other bills to take care of. Eventually my dad asked me to try and find another job because he was having trouble supporting me. I almost started working at the Amazon warehouse, but turned it down because it conflicted with my roller derby practice schedule. He knew that was one of the few things bringing me joy at that point in my life and I glad he didn't ask me to give it up.

I eventually got a contract position that was supposed to go through the end of the year. In October, I was contacted by a headhunter for my current role. He found my resume on a job site and thought I'd be perfect for it. And I was. Still am. And today I make almost triple what I made at the web dev firm.

I wouldn't have gotten the job if I hadn't learned how to code HTML emails there. I am really grateful for that. But I still think they're shitty people who try to put on a good facade by doing shit like making big donations. One of the other web dev guys got in trouble because they tried to contact him during his child's birthday party and he didn't respond. They donate money and brag about it, but they treat their employees shitty (aside from their daughter, of course 🙄) and spend the bare minimum to run their business. I mean, they do have a snack room, so that totally makes up for it, right? 🙄

Saria putting this shitlord in his place seems more likely than not. There could also be something coming of her friendship with Katelynn that has Zephyr behaving more ... proper? For current lack of a better term. This still isn’t a big vibe but I’ve seen stranger with this muse.

You won’t find many at RI that don’t see Zephyr as some kind of threat. It comes down to how a woman like her handles his antics and incessant badgering when he finds himself interested by another person. Again, that mission to get her smile will be a pestering one.

Kat & Saria

Kat is somewhat aloof, and a different kind of enigma compared to her brother. She has walls and lines on the ground yet welcomes companionship beyond the wariness of her guards. In the AK verse especially, with oripathy not doing her any favors, she’s careful of the bonds she makes. But I see Saria as a good figure in her life if only for the stability she symbolizes and the no nonsense she provides. A... slightly softer touch than Kal’tsit.

Romance isn’t on her mind. She had someone back in Ursus but had to leave them. It’s on the backburner compared to.. trying to stay in good health herself as well as doing the best she can for those around her.

Sure she’s got the older brother slipping around RI but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need older sister figures. I say all this, but I should stipulate I feel it just as likely that they can stand as emotional ‘equals’ to one another. Kat is far from a weak damsel. She has a stubbornness. It just needs a little bit of honing and guidance.

Wow, for once a case where I don’t see antagonism applying. It feels... refreshing leaving this section blank, y’know. Two muses that have no reason to bicker. (’: Maybe some firmness on tone, but not beyond that?

Goodness do I have a treat for all of you today. Larry McQueen, owner of The Collection has sent me a lovely sighting filled with detailed information. Because the detail is frankly incredible, I decided not to edit it and present Larry’s notes in full below:

In 1936, Travis Banton, head designer at Paramount Studios, began work on the last film he would design for his favorite clotheshorse, Marlene Dietrich. The duo had worked closely together on all her films at Paramount and created the “Dietrich style”-- a look of lavish, smoldering, hard-edged sophistication that was instrumental in creating the Dietrich legend.

Dietrich had one final film to complete her contract at Paramount and was cast in a typical Dietrich vehicle Angel, a sophisticated Lubitsch melodrama with her in the role of an ignored wife of means who has an affair with her husband’s friend. Banton designed the most opulent dress he had ever created for the star for the under-five-minute opera sequence and preceding scenes in the film. The ensemble was to become known as the “Faberge” gown and consisted of a fitted long-sleeve bodice with peplum, a matching long skirt with train and a six foot stole bordered with sable. The fabric was solidly embroidered with gold beads, pearls, rhinestones, gold bullion, gold sequins and faux ruby and emerald stones in geometric designs. According to W. Robert Levine in his book “In A Glamorous Fashion,” the costume was cost-listed on the wardrobe records at $8,000.00, an exorbitant price in the post-depression era and a price that would be over $100,000.00 by today’s standards. The expense must have caused stirrings in Paramount’s upper management in a time when the government was asking the studios to scale back the unnecessary lavishness in costume design. Banton himself once said it was the most expensive gown he had ever designed.

The ensemble is given credit in many film costume books as the most spectacular gown ever created. Diana Vreeland, one-time curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art said of the costume in the book “Hollywood Costume– Glamour! Glitter! Romance!” “When I think of detail, I think of Travis Banton’s marvelous beaded dress for Marlene Dietrich in Angel—like a million grains of golden caviar. That is one of the most beautiful dresses ever…”. Margaret J. Bailey in her book Those Glorious Glamour Years describes the dress “It was simple in lines, of Persian design, and looked like a piece of woven jewelry…” and “… caused no little trauma on the set when producers refused to give it to Dietrich for her private wardrobe.”

Dietrich had loved the gown and asked the studio if she could keep it. It is said she was so angry of being refused by the company she help save, she stormed off the set. The incident no doubt added to her disharmonious departure from the studio. She left the studio and did not return until a decade later. Acquiring gowns and props from her films- by whatever means- was a general practice of Ms. Dietrich. After her death, The German Film Archive Foundation (die Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek) and The Berlin Film Museum acquired her estate in 1993, which consisted of five different storehouses in Europe and the USA. In the collection were thousands of items from her career including fifty of her most famous film gowns. Her daughter, Maria Riva, once told the curator of the Frankfurt Film Museum, her mother was always in constant fear the studios would someday try to take back her collection and had kept the fact of its existence well hidden.

Paramount, however, retained the piece and began to put it to use. Re-using costumes was a common practice by studios to maintain an opulent look to secondary and background characters without the expense of making new ones. It is unknown exactly how many films the Dietrich gown was used in, but from photos found, it is obvious it was put to work and went through many transformations in the process. Mary Astor wore it, without the stole on the set of Midnight, 1939. The front was reworked and worn by Rose Hobart in the film A Night at Earl Carrolls, 1940. It was used in publicity photos as in that of Loraine Day circa 1944. With the sleeves removed, the stole without the fur was added to the front of the bodice as draping, it was worn by Felicia Atkins in The Errand Boy, 1961. The stole was cut in half to be used as a turban and worn with a sleeveless altered bodice by a model in A New Kind of Love, 1963. In 1974, the bodice was put back together and used by Diana Vreeland in the MET exhibition of films fashion and in 1985, the gown and stole was returned to its original configuration and worn by Barbara Hershey in the TV movie My Wicked Wicked Ways.

With all the different uses, the pieces took a beating. Many of the “re-workings” were fast and crude and some of the attempts to repair the gown involved covering damaged areas with large gold sequins. One previous ‘restoration’ involved applying glue to areas and pushing the beads back together and letting it harden. The fine chiffon backing was weak and starting to split and the patterns were separating. The costume was so fragile, it could never be worn again, but it is amazing the pieces stayed together.

In December of 1990, Paramount put the gown up for auction at Christies New York as part a larger collection of ‘star wardrobe.’ Larry McQueen and his late business partner, Bill Thomas, who were respected experts in the field of film costumes and had compiled one of the finest collections of the medium under the name “The Collection,” were retained to help inventory, authenticate and price the collection and were overwhelmed to see, what they believed to be, the most exquisite film costume ever created. They were successful in purchasing it for a total cost of approximately $23,000.00, one of the highest prices at the auction. As excited as they were to own the gown, the reality of its condition soon set in. Due to the age of the garment, poor storage and multiple alterations, it could never be dressed on a mannequin because it would not support its own extreme weight.

In 1999, four years after Bill Thomas died, Larry McQueen began the process of restoring the costume. Museum experts in preservation and restoration were consulted and much debate occurred as to whether the integrity of the gown- however poor that integrity was- should be tampered with. It was finally decided by Mr. McQueen that instead of leaving it as it was- a box of un-showable beads- the ensemble should be restored. Getson/Eastern Embroidery, who was then owned by Annie Dernderian, was approached with working on the gown. The firm had worked on the original costume and luckily had many of the beads, sequins and stones used on the original construction.

But, restoration of the garment proved far more difficult than planned. Even though the gown had only taken weeks to create, it would take years to restore. Every inch of the beadwork would have to be attached to new chiffon backing and the patterns pulled into shape and lightly tacked. Then the patterns had to be permanently hand stitched, replacing any missing stones or beads. Previous poor repairs would have to be removed. Missing areas or areas that had been glued would have to be replaced. Many of the original silk threads that attached the beads were breaking and would have to be reinforced with new silk thread. The stole, which had been cut in half and then stacked on top of its self and re-sewn, had to be taken apart, attached to a new backing and the beading attached and corrected. Photographs of Dietrich wearing the costume were enlarged to determine what was an original pattern and what had been changed. Luckily, the patterns did repeat themselves, so where a pattern was missing, a template of an existing pattern was made to re-create the missing one. The task would involve going inch by inch and would involve thousands of hours and great expense. But, determined to see the gown restored, Larry McQueen had the work begun.

The gown could not be taken apart and beaded flat as it was originally constructed, so a special frame with a sling had to be constructed to allow access to the inside of the garment to work from the front and the back of the fabric. Beads and sequins that had to be removed were sorted and reattached in to same location if possible. Only a four-inch area could be worked on at one time and each area was photographed before and after to document the work done. The project was daunting.

The entire fabric of the costume is composed of repeating geometric shapes somewhat like a paisley pattern. Each shape is outlined with small pearls or faceted rhinestones. Beads, pearls or sequins in different combinations fill the center portions of the design. Throughout, are patterns that contain a small grid work of bullion threading and each square filled with small pearls, sequins or a combination of sequins and gold beads. The background is of solid gold rocaille beads and the gown is sporadically studded with emerald and red glass beads. Literally millions of beads were used to create the fabric of the ensemble.

After one year, only the bodice was approaching completion, most of the work done by Annie Denderian. But the expense was mounting and it was becoming impossible to find qualified people who had the patience and time to spend on the garment. Mr. McQueen decided that if the costume was to be completed, he would have to take over the bulk of the hands-on restoration. Having the background and more importantly the motivation to see the gown completed, he was mentored by Ms. Denderian, learning and perfecting the techniques to painstakingly re-attach the patterns and began work on the dress. Almost one year to the date of beginning the work- working faithfully five to eight hours a day- the skirt and the stole were completed. To add strength, bias tape reinforcing and a new silk chiffon lining was added by the costume house of John David Ridge and the stole was re-bordered by using existing sable by Judith Moss at LA Fur Center.

McQueen stated that he probably would have reconsidered restoring the gown had he know the time, patience and expense it was going to take, but then quickly adds that he would have done it anyway. It was just too important. In working that closely with the piece, McQueen was amazed how in touch you get with the people who originally created the garment (a process difficult to understand unless you have restored someone else’s creation). You could tell when someone was having a bad day and cutting corners. You could tell when someone was struck with genius. You could see the differences in workmanship and technique between the various beaders. You could see the time spent on details in areas that no one would ever see. You become very close to the garment and understand it.

The gown is truly a testament to the artistry of early Hollywood. Mr. McQueen is confident the care, attention and over 3000 hours spent in its restoration would make its original creators proud. He hopes that if he leaves any legacy to the field of film costumes, one of his main accomplishments will be the “Faberge gown” survives in the splendor it was originally created and will be shown and appreciated for generations to come.

TLDR:

Our orphanage has, as of 4/12/22, two days to raise $730, or their water purifier, their only source of safe drinking and bathing water will be taken. Without the purifier, they will have no way of getting clean water, as they can not afford to buy bottles. The unpurified water will expose the orphans to deadly illnesses, germs, and bacteria. This could quite literally cost lives.

I sent everything I had, but am unfortunately in the middle of getting evicted, and also now have multiple sclerosis that may be paralyzing me and can't work a job to help support them. Now, if you have the time, please read this entire post to understand their story. I am asking sincerely, because this story deserves to be heard! This is a story of people who even in the most dire situations have cared about my illnesses, who have fought through so much because their hearts are genuinely full of love for their fellow humans. And these people are in trouble. They need our help to survive.

Hello everyone! My name is Maddie (Madison McClain if we're being fancy) and I've been working for the past year fundraising for the orphanage run by my best friend, Yazid, called God Provides Orphanage! It's located in Buguri, Uganda. We met by chance, and became instant friends. Now, I consider him family, along with all of the members of Team God Provides. Although this is a Christian orphanage, we're all from different backgrounds, and faiths, and that is all accepted.

Yazid is truly the most amazing person I've ever met. Even in his worst situations, and even in grave danger, he'll take the time to care about my medical issues first, and tell me to rest even when I know he could use my help. His mission in operating God Provides orphanage is to provide kids with a sense of hope, unconditional love, and faith in their futures. He's taken care of families, orphans, sick children with parents who couldn't afford their medicine, anyone he kind find. He's helped so many people, and saved so many lives. And he's been my best friend for a year now.

Unfortunately, Yazid and the orphanage have fallen into a string of tragedies that have made things for them very difficult.

First, one of the orphans, a preteen girl, almost died from starvation. Fortunately, I had the money at the time to pay for her treatment with metabolic salts, and she was okay!! I was beyond relieved when I heard she survived, I cried in my friend's car the whole way home.

Yazid has a tendency to overwork himself...even to the point of illness. And so recently, he was hospital for acute renal failure, and came serious close to dying. This is something my mother almost passed from a few years back, and it's only by a miracle that she survived. Yazid never shows fear, so when he began talking about what to do if he lost his life, I knew he must be seriously struggling. But luckily, with the help of people here, he got out alive, and was able to get all the treatment he needed to survive!

Then, upon returning home, he found that the kids had used the food and supplies improperly, as their temporary guardians were not used to how to ration and use them. The children had not eaten in days, and he was terrified. Luckily, again, through help from your kindness, the kids were able to eat, and Yazid was able to pay past due rent.

But then, just the other day, only days after getting out of the hospital, Yazid was attacked and beaten. Their water purifier, their only source of safe water, broke down recently, and these people were hired to fix it. However, they are now demanding the balance owed, and as of 4/12/22, we only have two days (including today) to pay them the balance before they come and remove the water purifier.

This could cost children's lives. Without safe drinking and bathing water, they are exposed to deadly illnesses, germs, and ameobas. All of which could sadly VERY EASILY kill a child.

Please, we NEED your help. You truly can make the difference between sickness and health in these kids. Please, spread this post. Message it to blogs you think seem kind. Put it in your discord servers. Put it in your Instagram bio and advertise it on your story. Anything. It would mean so much. And if you want to help more, consider joining our volunteer discord!
