the revenant's lament - Way out west, in the most lonesome of reaches, strange things are afoot. Cowboys around campfires tell ghost stories and tall tales, speak of impossible, supernatural things. They say the devil walks amongst men. They say he'll grant you impossible wishes at the cost of your eternal soul. They say he can bring dead men back to life.

The Time Lord Letters is a collection of historical documents written by the Doctor throughout their life.

This collection includes a message from Theta Sigma to Borusa about a perigosto stick accident, a letter to Marie Antoinette prior to her execution, a message from the Fifth Doctor concerning a missing aircraft to the Airport Controller, a "Thank you for having me" note from the Eleventh Doctor to Craig Owens, and many, many more.

The Doctor has luck manipulation abilities.

The Master has literally tripped over the Fourth Doctor’s scarf before.

The Master was also once kneed in the groin by the Rani while in the same body (that body went through a lot, poor little cheetah man).

Good news: Both, Bunny and Vlad survived the night! (And of course Diablo too :)

Vlad slept like the dead (that he actually is) even though he only had a quarter of an inch hay between him and the hard, cold soil. After he woke up, he felt like he'd been hit by a tractor - twice. He moaned and crawled up like an old man. Apparently Diablo woke him.

Diablo: 'Omg, get up already! Finish your job and let's leave this foul place! They devour me with their eyes!' Vlad, barely awake and full of aches: "Sure, pal. Let's get this over with. Keep your distance to the village until I finish work."

Diablo: 'You betcha.'

Vlad shuffled over to the sculptor's shop. From what he sees, he is a master of his craft and he has no idea why no one wanted to work for him. Well, he'll soon find out. Not that he cared much. This is just a game and he dealt with harder tasks. He'd even been to hell and back. So one day working here won't kill him. It's for Ji Ho and Saiwa - and his best friend Jack after all. There was music playing in the shop, so the sculptor is already there too, despite the early hour.

'Enjoy what'chas got, not what you have not 'tis a weak heart lamenting with sorrow When the days seem cursed, it could always be worse Fight depression with sword and arrow'

The Sculptor: "Good Morning! You're early, that's great. Take off your shirt and let's start right away. The queen is eagerly waiting for her statue!"

'When the zeppelinous clouds of trouble abound And thunder is clapping and lightning strikes ground Just when yer thinking this may be your last Throw a lash 'round the mast, hold fast!'

Eh - take off his shirt? He knows this voice. It belongs to the very person who always demands him to take off his shirt!

'When the world ain't right, and it smithes ye with strife Ye can now buckle down, it's a test they call life Very soon you will see what kind of animal you'd be Taking the bite outta life'

Leander! Vlad's nemesis! The very man who never fails to make him lose his composure! The red-haired devil who wanted to marry him. Yeah - he only cursed Vlad and dragged him down to his hell to protect him - but that does not mean he'll ever forgive him that he touched Ji Ho and almost drowned him! (Which actually wasn't Leander's fault either...)

'When they're testing the gallows, yer hung like a dog Or they're marching us out to a firing squad We just smile and recall all the good times we had It's the best 'til tomorrow It's the best day 'til tomorrow'

But of course NPC Leander did not recognize him. Because this is just a game. A stupid game! He'll have a word with Tiny Can when he's back, that's for sure... Leander: "Ah the gods sent you! You're beautiful - the Queen will be pleased! Sit over there."

'No considering surrender when yer down in the dregs If ye look down and notice you still have your legs So stand up and fight you just might seize the day It's the best day 'til tomorrow'

The Real McKenzies - Best Day until Tomorrow If you happen to like punk: this song is really good! I just found it by chance and it fits so well!

And so Vlad took off his shirt (and his pride) for Leander - again... He grit his teeth and tried not to freak out and kill this annoyingly oblivious NPC. And he reminded himself over and over again that this is just a game. And for whom he does this. Ji Ho. Jack. Saiwa. Just. A. Game.

(It seems like NPC Leander ist just as full of himself and annoying as real Leander and therefore the village folks avoids him ^^')

Meet Theodore Hoffman of San Francisco. He was only 22 years old when he was outed as trans in 1902. The young bellboy's interviews and op-eds represent a rare case of early transgender self-narrative. He was so clearly trans I wish I could reach across time and give him a vial of testosterone.

“I always wanted to be a boy; I always wanted to do things like one," he explained, "I can remember my mother telling me that when I was 1 1/2 years old [in 1882] I always wanted to wear my little brother's clothes. The wish has never left me."

He was orphaned at age 10 in 1890. The young man lived with relatives in Oregon over the following years before traveling to his first bellboy job in Los Angeles. At 21, his move gave him the opportunity to transition. As one reporter put it, "the impulse to be a boy was too strong."

Even though it was 1902, Theo did not think of his gender as a transgression. He wrote, "This is supposed to be a free country, and yet they arrest a person who is quietly minding his own business. And I say 'his' business because I never think of myself as a woman at all."

"When I was 21, I decided to become a man - I was of age, so why not?" Theo found employment at the swanky Nadeau Hotel in Los Angeles. The hotel had the first electric elevator in the city and he served important leaders, politicians, and celebrities from around the world.

Another bellboy, "Little Liz," soon became jealous of Theo's popularity. They fought in the lot outside the hotel after Theo picked up the nickname "Big Liz." He realized he had to find another hotel and soon left for San Francisco by stowing away on a freight train.

Theodore was finally caught at a SF restaurant by an onlooker who recognized him from before his transition. She alerted the police who swiftly arrested him for breaking crossdressing laws. He later lamented, "It is too bad to spoil a good bell boy by trying to make a woman of him."

In jail, Theodore announced he would continue to wear trousers when he got out. This is quite important as it discredits the idea that he simply wanted to reap the benefits of manhood. He had nothing to gain by declaring himself male but continued to anyway. He was trans.

He wished to continue as a bellboy even after he was released from jail. He explained: "To be a bell boy is like getting behind the scenes at the theatre."

The final mentions of Theodore note that he was not charged for his transgression. Despite this amazing story, there's next to no writing on him over the past 120 years! I hope this thread will draw more attention to his narrative.

Theo paved the way for other trans people of his era. He wasn't able to end the unfair crossdressing laws but he helped acclimate California to a new wave of gender trouble. I hope he was able to live the rest of his life in pants. As he put it, "With trousers I get freedom."

Theodore wrote a short autobiography for the unsympathetic SF Examiner in 1902. They blamed his gender upon "trashy novel reading" (not unlike the "social contagion" moral panic today). The full article is fascinating and a great read: www.transreads.org/adventures-in-trousers/

*Boy, they drink a lot in the classic movie "Casablanca." Granted, they've all got plenty to drink about, but gee whiz.

*I tried to keep up while watching. I had to do some research.

“CASABLANCA,” a classic movie set in a number of cafes and bars

Wine – English couple in the opening scene are drinking wine at the outside cafe when robbed by a sly pickpocket.

Cocktail – A desperado is waiting, waiting, waiting and drinks while lamenting that he will never get out of Casablanca.

Cocktail – Man tries to negotiate a passage out of Casablanca.

Wine – Man buys passage on a fishing vessel

Wine – Women trying to get more money for jewels

Cocktail – Englishmen are served by Sascha in Rick’s bar, and toasting cheerio.

Wine – Women gambling at Rick's while drinking

Champagne glass (already empty) – In front of Rick as he is toying with a chess problem

Wine – Ugarte drinks while bargaining with Rick.

Brandy (Boss’s Private Stock) – Sascha serves the good stuff to the spurned Yvonne, because Yvonne is Rick’s private stock.

Brandy – Captain Louis Renault drinks at Rick’s. He's a steady customer, since the bar also has loose women.

Brandy – the Italian Fascist Captain Tonelli drinks while harassed by Lieutenant Casselle in Rick’s.

Brandy – Rick gives some free brandy to Renault in Rick's office.

Veuve Cliquot 1926 – The top French champagne that Renault recommends to Strasser as the Nazi crassly gobbles caviar.

Cognac – Laszlo orders for himself and Ilsa the second night in Rick’s.

Brandy – Rick continues drinking recklessly at his own bar.

Champagne – After the publicly defiant singing of the Marseillaise, Lazslo and the French officers toast the humiliation of the Germans.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep:

Redemption and Restoration

In the parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus conveys a deep message about the relentless pursuit of redemption and the boundless grace of God. Let us delve into this timeless story and explore its significance in our lives today.

A certain shepherd had a hundred sheep, yet one of them strayed from the fold. Undeterred by the ninety-nine, the shepherd embarked on a relentless search for the lost sheep. He scoured the hills and valleys until, at last, he found the wayward sheep, weary and alone.

Filled with compassion, the shepherd tenderly lifted the sheep onto his shoulders and rejoiced, calling together his friends and neighbors to celebrate the sheep's return. In the same way, Jesus explains, there is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance (Luke 15:3-7).

This parable reminds us of the depth of God's love and his unwavering commitment to seek out and restore the lost. Just as the shepherd pursued the lost sheep, so too does our Heavenly Father pursue each one of us with relentless love and compassion.

No matter how far we may have strayed, God's arms are always open wide, ready to welcome us back into His embrace. His grace knows no bounds, and His forgiveness is freely offered to all who humble themselves and turn back to Him.

The parable of the Lost Sheep challenges us to reflect on our own lives and consider those areas where we may have wandered away from God's path. It beckons us to return to the fold, to repent of our sins, and to experience the joy of reconciliation with our Heavenly Father.

Just as the shepherd rejoiced over the lost sheep's return, so too does God rejoice over each one of us when we turn back to Him. Our repentance brings joy to heaven, and our restored relationship with God brings fulfillment and purpose to our lives.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your unwavering love and grace, demonstrated to us through the parable of the Lost Sheep. Give us the courage to humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and return to you with open hearts. May we never forget the depth of your love for us and the joy that comes from being reconciled to you. In Jesus' name, amen.

I thought we liked her?? Didn't we win the 2021 semis because of her?? (Don't @ me, I'm terrible at dates, all I remember is that there was an important game and we win it because of her)

you all really enjoy angst, huh? 😂

okay, rule #1 of barça fandom: we love everyone until we don't 💅🏻 (unfortunately, we have earned a reputation as a fandom that is quick to turn on its players. to be fair, justly in some cases!)

and believe me, lieke was certainly beloved. looking back on her time at barça, she was definitely one of our best players, having played 5 seasons/158 matches and scoring 73 goals.

but what turned culers against lieke was her behaviour and the way she handled leaving the club. according to sport, lieke was allegedly offered a new contract early in the 2021-22 season, indicated she would accept, but never signed the renewal. then she kept putting things off for months, ignored calls of barça reps who say they never knew she wanted to leave on a free transfer. even cgh was asked about the rumours that lieke was leaving and said they were "fake news."

anyway, once the news was announced that lieke would be going to psg, the fandom basically felt like it was a betrayal. even prominent barça journalists called out the way lieke left as "not the right way for the club and her teammates" and that the way she left was a "disappointment."

some fans lamented that barça should place limits on how long players have to decide on a renovation (because lieke dragged it out!)

and other fans started calling lieke all types of names like "rat" "snake" and "traitor" when she first posted she was leaving. and then when lieke got injured during euro2022, the abuse continued with some fans even saying it was karma.

ultimately, there were rumours that the real reason that lieke left was because she wasn't getting the attention that players like alexia was getting from the club and fanbase. remember that lieke joined barça in 2017, which was the same year that she won uefa's player of the year and fifa's the best. was lieke jealous because her star had fallen and alexia's had risen? and because she wasn't spanish/catalan, it would remain that way. she even said as much in an interview with mundo deportivo.

obviously, lieke has a different version of events and even said in her most recent interview that it was because she wanted to be closer to her fiancé and home. but i always thought the issue of not feeling like the "chosen one" or "star girl" lingered. like in the earlier mundo deportivo interview in 2022, she complained about not being thanked by the club:

so yeah, tl;dr, it is what it is. probably everyone involved would want to go back in time and do it differently, but here we are. the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

and fyi, even today, fans still hold a grudge against lieke.

1. First Kiss

22. More than One Kiss

Sigma slumped into his seat, grateful to finally have a moment to rest. “Is the day almost over? I want to go back to the casino….”

“Aw, don’t be like that, Sigma! We had so much fun today!” Across from him, Nikolai began to wiggle back and forth, and the metal pod they were sitting in rocked with him. Sigma’s veins began to flutter, fresh anxiety flooding his blood, and he covered his face so he didn’t have to watch the way the world jerked back and forth around them.

The worst part of it was that even if Gogol did break the Ferris wheel, he wouldn’t let Sigma fall to his death. No, he’d rescue them both with his ability, and this nightmare afternoon would just carry on while the theme park crumbled into chaos around them.

“Stop that! You’re going to break the ride!” Ugh, why did Sigma have to say that?

“Ooh, think so?” Nikolai’s voice trembled with excitement, and his knees bumped into Sigma’s as he lurched toward one side to peer down at the mechanics far beneath them. Their ascent was slow, a casual crawl that Sigma had almost been grateful for, but now he realized that such a long ride only gave Nikolai more opportunities to cause mayhem! Why had he agreed to this?

“No breaking the ride!”

“Aw, I’m never allowed to have any fun,” Nikolai lamented, and Sigma peered through his fingers to watch the way Nikolai’s whole body wilted in disappointment. He blinked one big, sad eye at Sigma, and his bottom lip stuck out in the most exaggerated of pouts that almost made Sigma smile.

Almost. His whole body ached, especially his poor feet, and he refused to let this ridiculous clown off the hook just because he was cute.

“You’ve had fun all day,” Sigma reminded, shuddering as he recalled some of the horrifying rides that he’d been dragged onto. He’d never been to a theme park before, and he wasn’t entirely sure that he ever wanted to come back after today’s exhausting experience. “Besides, wasn’t this thing your idea? Why would you want to break it!?”

“All you’ve done is complain that I’ve made you fear for your life today—”

“I wouldn’t complain if you stopped making me fear for my life!”

“—so I picked the most ordinary ride at the theme park! Aren’t I so generous? Oh, but it’s so sad! This ride is as boring as you are!” Nikolai slumped over the side of the cart, arms dangling down toward a ground that inched further and further away with every passing second.

If only Nikolai would tumble head-over-heels out of the ride. Then maybe, Sigma would be able to have a true moment of peace.

… Who was he kidding? If Nikolai fell out of the cart, Sigma would probably try to catch him while Nikolai laughed hysterically. Not worth the trouble.

“If it’s boring you that much, you’re welcome to leave, and we can meet up again after the ride is over.”

Nikolai threw himself back in his seat, absolutely scandalized. The compartment wobbled again. “Sigma, I can’t let you ride the Ferris wheel all by yourself! That’s just too sad! No, you stuck by me all day, so I’ll endure the slowest ride in existence just for you!”

“Again, this ride was your idea!” Sigma crossed his arms and huffed, which only made Nikolai snicker. “I’d like to also remind you that you kidnapped me from my office! I didn’t have a choice but to stick by you all day!”

Nikolai merely grinned, and Sigma sighed in defeat. Somebody as ordinary as him would never be able to win against Nikolai, so why even bother trying? He might as well sit back and enjoy the view.

And the view was nice. The world beyond the park looked dark and unwelcoming, but a sea of cheerful, rainbow color separated them from reality. The higher the ride took them, the smaller the park appeared until only the carts on the looping roller-coasters looked close enough to touch.

So far up, Sigma could barely hear the jingle of carnival games, the pop of balloons, the clamor of children. The brisk air on his cheeks felt nice, relaxing, and he let himself enjoy this quiet moment with his unlikely companion.

Nikolai stared at him, his expression stranger than usual. He wore a smile, but this one seemed soft and out of place when Sigma was so used to his vicious, scheming grins. Nikolai’s eye twinkled in the starlight, his hair fluttering like feathers against his cheeks, and a part of Sigma wanted to reach out to touch him. To see if this was real, if Nikolai still sat across from him or if he’d been left with nothing but a worthy mirage.

Nikolai dispelled the illusion himself as he shuffled forward, his voice teeming with excitement as he whispered, “Hey, Sigma? Quiz time!”

Sigma rolled his eyes but found that he couldn’t even muster the energy to be annoyed. “What is it this time?”

“Did you know that if two people kiss when they get to the top of the Ferris wheel, then their relationship will last forever?!”

Sigma could have asked why Nikolai bothered to tell him this. He could have pointed out that they weren’t in a relationship, so this information didn’t really pertain to them. He could have reminded Nikolai that even if they were together, forever for them likely wouldn’t be that much longer, anyway.

Instead, Sigma said, “I’ve never been kissed before.”

Nikolai wiggled to the edge of his seat, so close now that their knees bumped. “Not even a little bit?”

“Not even a little—what does that even mean?!”

“Well, I’d hate for you to miss out on the opportunity to have such a memorable and romantic first kiss! Very well, Sigma! I will make the sacrifice—”

“Sacrifice?”

“—and offer you my services just this once!” Nikolai scooted even closer, his knee nudging its way between Sigma’s so that he could invade even more of his space. One hand pressed against the metal wall behind him, and soon, all that Sigma could see was Nikolai. “Well? Better decide quickly, Sigma! We’re almost at the top!”

Sigma swallowed, his heart rattling with uncertainty. Did he really want his first kiss like this? At the top of a Ferris wheel after a long, exhausting day? With Nikolai, of all people? Sigma really couldn’t say for sure.

… But if not now, then when?

“Okay.”

Glee flashed through Nikolai’s left eye, and he tilted his head to gently nudge Sigma’s nose with his own. That was the only warning Sigma got before Nikolai’s lips found his, firm and deliberate as he claimed Sigma’s first kiss for himself. A tiny sound of surprise lodged itself in Sigma’s throat, and he barely had time to respond before Nikolai had leaned away again.

“Well~?” Nikolai teased, still close enough for Sigma to taste cotton candy on his breath. “How was your first kiss?”

… Sweet. Surprisingly sweet. Sigma had figured that a kiss with Nikolai would be sharp, unpredictable, difficult to follow. Not soft, not fleeting, and certainly not something that Sigma would want to do again.

And yet….

Sigma reached forward to grip Nikolai’s side with tentative fingers. “Well, we… we haven’t reached the top yet… have we?”

With a chuckle, Nikolai bumped their noses again. “Aw, Sigma! If you want another kiss, all you have to do is ask!”

“Fine, then I want another—mph!”

Nikolai’s mouth returned, firmer this time, and he didn’t pull away as quickly. He drew Sigma closer for one, two, three more kisses until Sigma’s mind felt too dizzy to keep count anymore. Nikolai’s kisses were heady and addictive, and he decidedly didn’t hate the playful bites as much as he’d expected.

Only after a long, long time did Sigma realize that something was wrong. He put both hands on Nikolai’s broad shoulders and pushed until Nikolai, grumbling, pulled away. Sigma tried to catch his breath as he looked over the side of the cart, but the sight of the ever-distant world only made his heart race.

“Nikolai. We’re not moving.”

“Ding ding! You’re right!” Nikolai confirmed with a brilliant smile. “We haven’t been moving for a while now, but you didn’t even notice! You’re so predictably unobservant!”

“Why aren’t we moving?! Are we stuck?” Sigma tried to wave to somebody, to signal that they needed help, but could the attendants even see him from so far away?

“I’m sure it’s because the control panel is missing some of its parts. Namely these!” With an exaggerated flourish, Nikolai produced several red buttons and a lever that he’d kept hidden in his coat.

“You… you broke the… why!?” Sigma yelled as panic began to rise in his chest.

“Because you seemed to enjoy kissing so much! Aren’t I just the most thoughtful person ever?” Nikolai’s grin turned feral, and his wild laughter filled the tiny compartment, so loud that even the people on the ground must have heard him. He kicked his silly little feet, so stupidly delighted by his own antics, and he might have looked cute if this whole situation wasn’t so insane.

Sigma wanted to be angry, but he just sighed as he slumped back in his seat. Of course, he should have suspected something like this when he agreed to indulge Nikolai’s whims, but did the clown really have to break the Ferris wheel controls? And did he have to be so damn cute about it?

“Give them the parts back now, Nikolai!”

“Eh, what’s the point in that? I’m sure the park authorities already have somebody on the case! You wouldn’t want to get in the way of someone doing their job, would you, Sigma?” Nikolai blinked at him with one wide, serious eye, and Sigma felt himself deflating further. He knew it was just a tactic, but Nikolai was probably right. They’d already inconvenienced these poor theme park employees enough, so they might as well wait until the technicians fixed the ride normally.

Besides, Sigma really didn’t want to explain how and more importantly why Nikolai broke the control panel right when they were at the top of the Ferris wheel. Just the thought of such a humiliating conversation made Sigma’s skin crawl.

With yet another defeated sigh, Sigma gazed out into the distance. At least the weather was nice, and they had a good view of the fireworks display going off on the other side of the park. Bright bursts of color filled the night sky, yellows and blues and pinks still lingering long after their radiant fires had died. If not for the fact that Nikolai had broken the Ferris wheel just to trap them here, Sigma might have mistaken this moment as something romantic.

“So what do you want to do, then? Who knows how long we’ll be stuck up here.”

A gloved hand captured his chin, angling his attention away from the lights and back toward the grinning man sitting across from him. Nikolai’s eye shone with fireworks, wild and dangerous and unmistakably beautiful.

“Aw, don’t worry, Sigma!” he promised in a whisper that still tasted of cotton candy. “I have a few ideas~”
