Historiske vikingeøkser - typer og design
Vikingernes økse, et alsidigt våben og værktøj, der blev brugt fra det 8. til det 11. århundrede, havde et buet blad og et langt skaft, der var designet til at hugge, flække og kaste med. Den symboliserede den nordiske kultur og afspejlede krigeres dygtighed og havde vigtige funktioner i hverdagen.
Vikinger afbildes ofte med større eller mindre økser i hånden og ser truende og vilde ud med dem i hænderne. Økser var faktisk en vigtig del af vikingernes liv. Ikke bare som våben, men som redskaber, de simpelthen ikke kunne undvære i deres dagligdag. En økse var noget, alle vikinger skulle eje og vide, hvordan de skulle bruge i deres skovklædte, snedækkede hjemlande. På grund af dette blev økser de mest almindelige våben, der blev brugt under konflikter.
Økser som krigsvåben startede simpelthen som de tilgængelige redskaber, man havde med sig på vikingernes plyndringstogter. En anden grund til, at økser var et populært valg af våben, er deres smidighed og kompakte størrelse - massive vikingekampøkser er mere en overdrivelse end en regel i vikingernes våbenarsenal.
Hvad er en vikingeøkse? En vikinge økse er et håndredskab, der har mange anvendelsesmuligheder både på slagmarken og i hjemmet. Dengang var sværd ret dyre, og kun rige krigere havde råd til dem. På den anden side var en økse noget, næsten alle ejede, da det mere var et almindeligt værktøj end et våben.
Over tid ændrede øksernes design og struktur sig. Det skandinaviske folk mestrede kunsten at lave økser. I begyndelsen var hovedet lavet af sten, men efterhånden blev det erstattet af jern og stål.
Der findes flere forskellige slags økser, som blev brugt af krigerne i vikingetiden. Vikingernes økser var generelt lette, så krigeren nemt kunne håndtere og kaste øksen. Øksens æg var designet til at være knivskarp. Der var også øksetyper, der var beregnet til nærkamp, da de havde en kort æg. Blandt disse var de mest almindelige typer daneøksen og skægøksen.
Størrelsen på vikingernes økser varierede, og de var normalt fra en til fem meter lange. Bladets størrelse og tykkelse varierede også. Daneøkser plejede at have en tynd bladprofil med en stor, buet skærekant, som gjorde dem fremragende til at skære gennem læderpanser og påføre alvorlige sår. På den anden side var skægøkser tykkere og tungere, hvilket gjorde dem til et godt valg til tunge opgaver som træfældning og kløvning, men som også hjalp dem med at levere kraftige knusende slag mod en fjende.
Vikingeøksens historie Omkring det 10.-11. århundrede blev vikingeøksen meget populær i områderne uden for Skandinavien, hvor vikingernes indflydelse var ret stærk på det tidspunkt, og det var et af de mest almindelige våben, der blev brugt af de gamle nordiske krigere. Middelalderens nordboere brugte to almindelige typer økser: den lange økse og håndøksen. Økser fra den tidlige vikingetid havde skær, der var mellem 10 og 15 cm lange, mens de økser, der blev brugt senere i vikingetiden, blev meget større. Nogle bredøkser havde for eksempel halvmåneformede skær, der var 9 til 18 tommer lange! Under krige havde de fleste vikinger ikke råd til våben som sværd (stål var dyrt), så de tog den økse med, som de brugte til at kløve eller skære træ, og brugte den som våben i kampen. Det var en fattig mands våben, da alle vikinger havde en økse i deres husholdning til vigtige opgaver som at fælde træer, bearbejde træ og bygge, men det betød også, at vikingerne var fortrolige med dem og vidste, hvordan de skulle bruges.
Selv om øksen ikke var et fancy våben, var den ret dødbringende. Dygtige krigere kunne flå deres fjenders skjolde i stykker som papir og nemt nedlægge dem i nærkamp. Men efterhånden blev vikingerne rigere, og de valgte våben med bedre manøvredygtighed.
Typer af vikingeøkser Økser fandtes i mange forskellige størrelser og former. Lad os tage et kig på de mest almindelige økser, som vikingerne brugte, og som i dag er populære i film og tv-serier om dem. Dansk økse Den danske økse er en af de tidligste typer af stridsøkser, der blev brugt mest i vikingetiden og den tidlige middelalder. De danske økser er også kendt som daneøkse, engelsk langøkse og skafthulsøkse. Denne type økse har et bredt og tyndt blad, der også har et markant horn ved både tåen og hælen af biddet. Det giver den en stor skæreflade.
Bladet på en dansk økse er normalt 8-12 tommer, og bladet har en tynd profil, som gør den god til at lave dybe snit - for eksempel gennem en hård læderrustning.
Skægget økse En af de mest almindelige økser i vikingetiden var den skæggede økse, også kendt som skeggox på oldnordisk. Den nederste del af økseskaftet er kendt som skægget, og det hedder sådan, fordi det går i en bue under øksehovedet. Dette skæg gav øksen en større skæreflade, samtidig med at øksens vægt var lav nok til, at den kunne bruges i kamp. Skægget gjorde det også muligt for vikingekrigere at hægte sig fast og trække våben ud af fjendens greb eller trække et skjold ned, så økseføreren eller en allieret kunne slå til mod den ubeskyttede fjende. Økser med skæg bruges stadig den dag i dag til træbearbejdning, da de giver brugeren mulighed for at placere grebet højt oppe og lave præcise snit med øksen.
Francisca-øksen Francisca-økser er opkaldt efter deres frankiske oprindelse. Francisa-økser dukkede op i de første par århundreder e.Kr. og fandt vej nordpå, hvor de med tiden nåede angelsakserne og nordboerne. Francisa-økser var små våben med skær, der var omkring 10 cm lange og en gennemsnitsvægt på 1,2 pund eller 600 gram. De blev brugt både som kastevåben og i nærkamp.
Mammen-øksen Mammen-øksen er ikke en øksetype, men et enkelt fint eksemplar. Det er en af de mest elegante vikingeøkser, der nogensinde er fundet. Mammen-øksen - opkaldt efter den danske landsby, hvor den blev fundet - var lavet af jern med sølvindlæg og dekoreret i "Mammen-stilen", som er en blanding af kristne og hedenske motiver og mønstre. Det viser, at økser også var statussymboler - Mammen-øksen tilhørte tydeligvis en velhavende, betydningsfuld viking fra området.
Kopier af vikingeøkser og vikinge-reenactment-våben Vikingevåben har altid interesseret historieinteresserede og samlere, især engelsktalende, på grund af de historiske forbindelser, vikingerne havde med Storbritannien og Nordamerika. Men da tv-serien Vikings kom på skærmen, steg interessen for kopier af vikingeøkser eksplosivt. Den mest berømte af disse økser er selvfølgelig Ragnar Lothbroks økse, men der findes mange smukke og funktionelle kopier derude.
Du kan købe dem online forskellige steder, og Amazon har også et stort udvalg. Vikingeøksekopier og re-enactment-våben, der er tro mod historien, bruger materialer, der er så tæt på originalerne som muligt - det betyder ingen ståløkser i ét stykke (desværre eller ej), men snarere træ og jern eller stål. Sådanne våben er en fantastisk gave til dig selv eller enhver, der er interesseret i historie eller historisk re-enactment, enten som et vægstykke eller noget, man kan tage med til begivenheder og faktisk bruge. Min personlige favorit er Ragnar Lothbrok Axe replica - den vejer 2,4 pund og er fuldt funktionel med et øksehoved af højkulstofstål.
Konklusion Denne historie om vikingeøkser er helt vidunderlig. Jeg håber, at denne artikel hjalp dig med at få en idé om disse herlige tider. Den gode nyhed er, at med moderne teknologi og online shopping kan du få kopier af vikingeøkser i høj kvalitet, hvor det i tidligere år og årtier ville have krævet ture til specialforhandlere eller bestilling fra en smed for at få fat i noget lignende.
Under alle omstændigheder var vikingerne et fascinerende, energisk folk med appetit på livet, selv med al dets hæslighed. Deres redskaber - og våben - var enkle, men dødbringende effektive. Og de ændrede Vestens historie med deres ekspeditioner, plyndringstogter og invasioner. Ikke dårligt for et par bønder og fiskere fra det kolde Nordeuropa!

3½ ud af 5 flækkede kranier
"I'ma get medieval on your ass" kunne være slaglinjen til denne film, hvor blod, tarme og hjernemasse fedter skærmen godt til. Det er historien om krigeren Jan Zizka, der levede i 1400-tallet og blev involveret i en strid mellem to brødres kamp om tronen et eller andet sted i det mørke Midteuropa. Filmen er ujævn, men spektakulær, og især slagscenerne fungerer fint. Jan Zizka spilles af Ben Foster, der altid er god og intens i sit spil, og Roland Møller er en værdig modstander i rollen som det møgsvin, der forfølger ham og en bortført prinsesse med en brutalitet, som selv Ramzan Kadyrov ville have svært ved at leve op til. Michael Caine og Matthew Goode pynter også pænt på rollelisten, men fylder meget lidt.

Schoolyard: End
You pull Thor behind you to the car, open the back and tug him in behind you. You close and lock the door then climb into his lap and wrap your arms tightly around his neck.
“He. He was fine this morning.” Thor mutters into your neck. “I don’t understand. He was fine this morning.” You don’t know what to say, so you don’t say anything. You just slide your fingers across his scalp, Thor’s arms wrap tightly around you as he sobs. Your heart just breaks for him, he and Odin hadn’t always gotten along but Odin was still his father.
After a few minutes someone taps on the window, when you glance over you see a teary eyed Sif.
“Thor? I need to talk to Sif okay?” He loosens his grip enough for you to open the door.
“We need to go.” She says her voice thick.
“We do. Call the embassy and have them pack up our things. Let them know what’s going on. I want Bryn and Fandral to meet us at the plane, we’re going home immediately.”
“Okay.” Sif unlocks all the doors then closes the door. You hear the driver’s door open and the passengers then the car starts.
“Your Majesty? Can you buckle please?” Volstagg says gently and you manage to barely buckle the two of you into one seat. Thor isn’t going to be letting go of you anytime soon which is just fine with you.
It’s a mostly silent ride to the plane. Bryn and Fandral meet you there, both look shocked and heartbroken. You take Thor’s hand and lead him onto the jet then directly to the bedroom.
“On the bed Krigeren min.” You soothe and he does as you say. You tug off his shoes then cover him with the blanket, you’re afraid he’s going to go into shock. When you go to leave his hand shoots out and catches your wrist.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to make a plan with the team. I’m going to get my phone so I can call Loki and going to grab yours so you can check in on your mom.”
“Oh, mother. I’m a horrible son I didn’t even think about how this is effecting her.” He says sitting up suddenly.
“Stay. I will get your phone.” You tell him placing a gentle hand on his chest.
“Esklede,” he murmurs and you give him a quick kiss on the cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you too. Now stay, let me take care of things.”
“Okay.” You go out into the main cabin where everyone is just sitting sort of shell shocked.
“Volstagg I need Thor’s phone. Fandral, Brynn can you help find Thor and I clothes that are appropriate for mourning please?” The two spring into action as Volstagg gives you Thor’s phone. “Thank you.” You head back to the room where Thor is and give him his phone. He pulls you into his lap, you bury your face in the crook of his neck while he calls his mom. They talk softly and you try not to listen but it’s hard not to. Frigga is heartbroken but worried about her son, in the way only a mom can be. Once Thor hangs up with Frigga he calls Loki.
“How is she doing?”
“Alright. As well as can be expected. Have you called her yet?” Loki answers honestly.
“I just hung up, with her but you know how mother gets. She’s more concerned with us than herself.”
“Typical.” Loki says, “are you on your way back?”
“We are.”
“Good. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.”
“Just be with mother. Make sure she takes care of herself.”
“Of course.”
“Thank you, I love you Loki.”
“And I you Thor.” The pair hang up then and you card your hand through his hair and Thor, showing impressive strength, moves down the bed never removing you from his lap then lays down.
He sleeps, you doze but when Bryn opens the door to bring your clothing you wake and give her a soft smile of thanks from where you’re laying stretched on Thor’s body.
“How long?”
“Two and a half hours.”
“Thank you.” You’re going to shower and get ready now so that Thor has time to sleep a bit longer but when you go to move Thor let’s out a low grumble.
“No.”
“I’m just going to go shower and start getting ready, you can shower after.” You mutter before pressing a kiss to his jaw.
“Five more minutes.” He grumbles and you hum softly.
“Okay, five more minutes.” You agree glancing at your watch. You card your fingers through his hair again and Thor hums lowly.
After your five minutes you go shower and get ready for the day. Thor gets ready after you and when the plane lands he takes a shaky breath.
“Whatever you need, I’m here.” You whisper and he gives your hand a squeeze. It’s truly a blur, your concern for Thor makes it hard for you to focus on much else, you help him write a couple of speeches, one for the country and one for Odin’s funeral. He’s supposed to go up alone but when he clings to your hand like he’s your lifeline how can you let go?
“King Odin was how he was known by most, but Prince Loki and I knew him by another name, father. It is not always easy growing up with a Father who is a King but I think mine did it well. He loved and supported us, taught us to be good people, to love our country and to always care for one another. He taught us that strength in the family brings strength to the country. I know that we are not alone in our grief, for many of us King Odin was the only King we have ever known, he was not a perfect King but he kept the peace, he cared for the people and he did what he always thought was the best for the many. His is an example that I strive to live up to. I am grateful for the time that I was given to rule with his hand on my shoulder, I-” he chokes on the word and takes a deep breath, “I wi-” he chokes down another sob then glances to you before dropping his head.
“I will miss him greatly.” You say reading the words as tears flow from Thor’s eyes, “There will not be a day that I do not think of my Father and hope that he will be proud of the man that I am and the King I strive to be. Rest easy in Valhalla Father, may we see you again there someday.” You take the papers from the stand and Thor folds them shoving them back into his pocket then he leads you down off of the stage and back to Frigga’s side. She gives you a watery smile and a single nod and you know you’ve done her proud.
Both Loki and the Queen Mother speak too, the only one who doesn’t cry is Frigga, something you’re surprised by but she does have to pause several times in her speech to compose herself. Then the four of you follow Odin’s coffin as it’s lead to the burial site. You stand at his side the whole time, your hand wrapped in his, you mourn too some tears falling as Odin’s coffin is lowered into the ground and the Asgardian National Anthem plays.
The next six months will probably be the hardest, you all have to wear black whenever in public for mourning. Frigga likely won’t wear much else until she too passes. You and Thor decide to put off any wedding plans until after his first year of ruling is over, once things calm down a little bit. As much as you’d like it to be a smaller ceremony becoming Queen isn’t a time for small, and marrying royalty is, apparently, a huge deal. Thor does convince you to let him officially crown you in a small intimate ceremony to make your being Queen and his wife official. You’ll be publicly crowned as a part of the wedding ceremony but after a frank conversation with Frigga you’d both realized that he couldn’t do it alone and if you were saying that you got married in a small ceremony before Odin had died, technically the truth, you might as well be crowned officially too.
It’s not a complicated ceremony, you’re awarded dual citizenship then you kneel in front of Thor, repeating a vow to best serve the people of Asgard and to stand by Thor’s side, to be his ally and support as he rules. You promise to protect the throne to the best of your abilities as wife, Queen and mother. Then he places a crown on your head and you rise, officially his Queen and Thor kisses you soundly in front of everyone gathered. You can’t believe that you ever thought you might leave him. That you’d get an annulment and go back to New York City, living a life that you’d expected. One you’d enjoyed, but this the life you’re building with Thor, is the one that you were meant to live.

The morning after your night with Eivor doesn’t quite go as planned. Follows on from Stay.
AN: This was written for the wonderful @kittycat-beans. I am still not that familiar with the fandom but I hope y’all can enjoy it nonetheless.
Warnings: It doesn’t dwell on being super graphic but there is violence, death, burns, medical details, trauma. Because it’s me, I’m also gonna warn for lack of smut 😅 Apologies for any typos et cetera.

“Good morning, pusen.”
She murmurs into your ear as little kisses on your jawline help stir you awake.
“I wish I could let you sleep, then make good on part two of last night, elskling, but it will have to wait, you’re needed in the village.”
You sigh wearily as you recognise the need to rush the process of waking up instead of having the leisurely morning your scheduled day off should have allowed. “Who is griping now?” You can’t help but wonder, imagining someone who could easily wait an hour or two but hasn’t thought to consider your needs. But you’re about to become very grateful that you thought about the question and didn’t actually ask it aloud.
Eivor has put together a respectable breakfast, and you are so groggy you don’t notice that she holds back from telling you more than that you were “needed,” she has a good poker face too, so you don’t suspect that inside she is nervous, struggling for the words and hoping you don’t hate her later on for letting you eat without telling you. She thinks it’s best to let you get your energy while you still can, and silently prays you will forgive her slightly paternalistic deceit.
It’s only once you have eaten that she begins to rush you. She’s polite and somewhat indirect about it, bringing you clothing and fiddling with helping you get it on in a way that doesn’t feel like naughtiness or affection. You then start to wonder what’s going on.
“Is something the matter, my wolf?”
She nods grimly. “It is not a minor matter that you have been called out for, come, quickly and I will show you.”
The charred bodies aren’t as harrowing as the sight of the living. You are relieved to discover that all the dead had their throats slit before the fire — it appears the enemy had the honour not to burn your people alive, at least — but those that ran in, fearing people trapped inside, were burnt horrifically. Several of your people had even been caught up in collapsing tents with severe burns.
For a warrior, Eivor astounds you with her willingness to be all-but a lackey in this time of need. Somewhere in the background of your mind, past the conscious attempts to ignore the mayhem and focus on your patients, you are soothed to know that the woman you spent the night with isn’t vain. Throughout the day, it becomes clear to you that her pride isn’t the least bit threatened by being a fetcher and carrier for you. She doesn’t think twice about her elegant clothes when she scrabbles around in the dirt to pick out the precious roots of healing plants that you need. She doesn’t sneer once at the task of scrubbing dirt off of them, nor protest when you have to send some back to her for further cleaning. She doesn’t demand that you explain anything: not what the plants do or are for, not whether you “really need” so very much of them, nor why a scrub that would be more than adequate to safely eat a root vegetable won’t do for your purposes. You find out, but not until much later, that she was plenty curious about this while she worked, but felt she must shelve her curiosity to support your work.
Late in the day, you have plentiful supplies and only one patient left to see. Eivor perches a respectful distance away, but from the corner of your eye you notice she seems fascinated as she watches you delicate clean your patient’s wounds, mix up a painkilling herbal drink for them and then begin to freshly grind the roots into a paste, eventually applying the paste as delicately as you can to cool and soothe the wounds your final patient has suffered.
When you are finished, it suddenly hits you: the pain you’ve witnessed, the pain in your body after far too many hours of work to be healthy, the aching fatigue in your body. Dazed, you flop to lay on the ground. The cold does you no favours, but thankfully your time there is short-lived. Strong, warm arms slide under your body and pull you up into a fireman’s lift, and you look up to see Eivor looking down at you with something between awe and affection.
While you were working, Eivor had not only been busy with your errands. When she knew you had enough to ride you over a slightly longer wait until the next batch, she took the chance to get things arranged. She spoke to your friends to ask more of your preferences and called in some favours with her own. The result was that you returned home to find Eivor’s bathtub warm and filled, a delicious platter of vegetable-based foods ready for you to eat, and a bottle of your favourite wine chilled for you to relax with.
You’re too exhausted and emotional to take it all in, and a gentle hand covers your mouth after you stutter for a few seconds trying to find the right words of thanks.
“Hush, min skatt, bare slapp av.” Eivor whispers to you.
Eivor undresses you carefully, but doesn’t take too much time over it, focused on getting you bathed and nurtured over seducing you. Little does she know she’s doing both at once.
She carries you into the bath and you sleepily notice the scent of your favourite soap. Whenever you try to protest her doing everything — not because you don’t like it, purely out of guilt — she just repeats her earlier words, “Hush, min skatt, bare slapp av,” in a hypnotic whisper. She dries and dresses you and brings you supper in bed, along with a glass of wine. The nausea you’ve suffered all day at all you’ve seen has finally abated enough that you nibble away at the meal. You notice Eivor is pleased by this, which spurs you on to eat a little more until the plate is clear. You finish off your glass of wine and then attempt, once again, to thank Eivor.
The attempt doesn’t last too long, with her cutting you off before you can get into a long-winded speech about how you don’t believe you deserved all this care. She insists that you have been a hero today, a warrior as resilient as any other. While others cried or froze or vomited in horror at the sights, the smells and the screams, you got to work and eased more suffering alone that the rest of the large village put together. You don’t easily accept the strength of her compliments, but listening to her words soothes you a little. She’s delighted at how easily you fall asleep in her arms.
“Søte drømmer, krigeren min,” she whispers with a kiss on the hairline of your sleeping face. And despite all of the horrors of the day, your dreams are indeed sweet.

Disclaimer: This is months old, and the “oh man” part is as well. I intended to add more to this originally, but since it’s been so long, I’ve decided to just post it, rather than let it sit in my drafts for like a year.

I don’t think I have a favourite word per se, though I LOVE the word strømpesokker (socksocks) just because of how ridiculous it is! Other good ones include rødme (to blush), æble (apple), fremragende (incredible, outstanding), vandkande (watering can), udmærket (alright), and uhhh that’s what i’ve got just from the top of my head.
And yes I do! I actually think both Swedish and Icelandic (which is NOT a Scandinavian language, but rather a Nordic language – common mistake) are really beautiful languages (even though I talk a lot of shit about Swedish). I think the prosody and inflection of Swedish is really pleasant to listen to and likewise I think Icelandic pronunciation is like AAAAAA! I would especially love to learn Icelandic and it is something I’ve been looking into, but for now I’ll be focusing on getting my German back up and running.
Oh man, my favourite things; languages and books. I will admit that most Danish literature I know of is children’s or YA but that can be really good so don’t mock it! I recommend basically everything by Josefine Ottesen, especially Det Døde Land trilogien or Krigeren trilogien. A lot of people liked Historien om MIra too, though that was never really my cup of tea. Also HIGHLY recommend Skammerens Datter by Lene Kaaberbøl, it’s honestly the best children’s fantasy out there and no I do not take constructive criticism. If you’re into older stuff that’s hard to read, I recommend Ditte Menneskebarn by Martin Andersen Nexø, it’s social realism and very sad, but also old. If you like crime you should check out Jussi Adler Olsen, especially the series called Afdeling Q, but I don’t really know much about this, since it’s more of my parent’s cup of tea than mine.

Historieutvikling: Contour-modellen
Jeg har gravd i arkivet mitt, og oppdaget et par interessante nedbrekk som kan være nyttige ressurser for kreativ skriving. Her er en nedskriving av Contour-modellen, basert på mobil-appen til Mariner Software som jeg lastet ned i 2011.
Jeg henviser også til åttesekvensmodellen, og Blake Snyder i denne artikkelen.
Contour-modellen starter med fire grunnleggende spørsmål, før den bryter disse videre inn i fire grunnleggende arketyper som igjen representerer de fire aktene i en filmfortelling. Særlig interessant er Ja/Nei-parene som dominerer andreakten (2A og 2B), som beveger oss nærmere og lengre vekk fra det sentrale spørsmålet.
Alt i alt en ganske interessant og annerledes tilnærming. Mer under...
4 SPØRSMÅL
Hvem er hovedpersonen? Protagonisten.
Hva prøver han/hun/de å oppnå? (re: goal) Profesjonelt (A-story), personlig (B-story) og privat (C-story). Hvordan vil deres seier vekke håp hos "resten av oss" og deres tap sette "oss andre" i fare?
Hvem prøver å stoppe ham/henne/dem? Hvem er antagonisten? Hvor villig er han/hun/de til å oppnå _sitt_ mål på bekostning av protagonisten? Hvis det ikke finnes en naturlig antagonist, må det etableres en sterk opposisjon/kontrast til heltens mål, noe som kontrasterer alt han kjemper for.
Hva skjer hvis de feiler? (re: stakes) Risikoen må handle om liv og død. I det minste en figurativ død eller noe som oppleves som en død av hovedpersonen (karakterdrap?).
4 ARKETYPER
Orphan i akt 1. Protagonisten er ensom eller iferd med å bli det. Det kan være utenfor hans kontroll eller han kan ha valgt en outsider-rolle selv ved å distansere seg fra familie eller kjærlighet på grunn av pliktfølelse, religion, egoisme eller sjenanse... for eksempel.
Wanderer i akt 2A. For å besvare Det sentrale spørsmålet må protagonisten ut på vandring. Han jakter på ledetråder, møter hjelpere så vel som motstandere, overkommer hindringer.
Warrior i akt 2B. Vis protagonisten kjempe for å besvare det sentrale spørsmålet. Krigeren forandres kun til sitt siste stadium gjennom en stor hendelse, vanligvis død eller gjenoppstandelse (?).
Martyr i akt 3. Protagonisten må være villig til å dø for å besvare spørsmålet. Han må være villig til å bli martyr. Viljen til å miste alt gjør at han kan vinne alt. Ved å gi opp det han ønsket, kan han få det han trenger (re: want vs. need).
FORMELEN
Når Protagonisten har/gjør/ønsker/får A, får/gjør/prøver/lærer han B, men oppdager at C skjer, noe som innebærer at han må respondere med D.
A = Orphan
B = Wanderer
C = Warrior
D = Martyr
AKT 1: Enstøing
Plot point 1: Introduser Protagonist, offeret/"Stakes character" eller Antagonist.
Plot point 2: Vis Protagonistens mangel i forhold til "Stakes character".
Plot point 3: Introduser Antagonist eller noe symbolsk for antagonisten.
Plot point 4: Vis "Deflector" som drar Protagonisten off-track.
Plot point 5: Katalysatoren. Protagonisten blir følelsesmessig involvert.
Plot point 6: Vis Protagonistens mål i forhold til "Stakes character"/love interest. Tydeliggjør Protagonistens problem.
Plot point 7: Protagonisten får (bevisst eller ubevisst) en alliert som tvinger ham ut av status quo.
Plot point 8: Vis hvordan Protagonisten er klar for å gå videre mot målet eller "Stakes character", men likevel ikke kan gjøre det.
Plot point 9: Vis at Protagonisten blir stoppet av en konflikt eller blir følelsesmessig truet av Antagonist eller "Deflector".
Plot point 10: Utdyp følelsene mellom Protagonist og "Stakes character" eller vis alvoret av trusselen mot ofrene.
Plot point 11: Vis "Deflector" eller Antagonist true med å ta "Stakes character" fra Protagonisten.
Plot point 12: Vis at Protagonisten bestemmer seg for at han MÅ handle for redde "Stakes character".
DET SENTRALE SPØRSMÅLET - Når dette er besvart med et definitivt "ja" eller "nei" er filmen over. Det kan være flere ledd, men må ha en klar "ja" eller "nei"-utforming for at problemstillingen kan bli løst.
AKT 2A: Vandrer
Denne akten består av sett med "ja" og "nei" som kaster Protagonisten nærmere og lengre fra det sentrale spørsmålet. De første tre "ja/nei"-parene, de neste to og deretter de siste to:
Ja/Nei 1-3: Protagonisten får hjelp fra allierte eller en mentorkarakter. Vi får se at Antagonisten ikke bare er slem, men VELDIG slem. Protagonisten lærer, nærmer seg det sentrale spørsmålet, men innser ikke at det han lærer egentlig er en avsporing. Protagonisten møter "low-level opposition", som han så vidt overkommer, som treningsøvelser for det som kommer. Kjærlighetshistorien/comic relief/sekundær-story starter.
Ja/Nei 4-5: Protagonisten fortsetter å vandre, lærer stadig mer om det sentrale spørsmålet og hva som trengs for å løse det. Han tester vannet med sine nyevunnede ferdigheter og verktøy. Motstanden øker og hindringene blir større. Antagonisten eller opposisjonen blir stadig mer bevisst på Protagonistens potensielle trussel og gjør motgrep.
Ja/Nei 6-7: Trusselen mot "Stakes character" øker til et liv/død-nivå. "Third act solution" blir vist, men betydningen av denne er ennå uviss for Protagonisten. En klar motsats til historiens theme blir uttrykt, det er denne ytringen eller situasjonen som debatteres videre i andre halvdel. Protagonisten er (eller føler seg) utlært, og er nødt til å konfrontere Antagonisten.
Antagonistens plan blir forklart til helten, av helten eller til andre.
Protagonisten kjemper mot Antagonisten eller entrer Antagonistens verden.
AKT 2B: Kriger
Ja/Nei 8-10: Protagonisten gjør teori til handling, tar beslutninger (både riktige og gale), og går aktivt inn for å besvare det sentrale spørsmålet. Han møter noe suksess, men deretter slår Antagonisten hardere tilbake. Det tematiske spørsmålet debatteres, gjerne i eksplisitt dialog mellom to karakterer. Helten vakler mellom disse synspunktene, mens han (uvitende?) forbereder sin største forandring.
AKT 3: Martyr
Big Yes: Protagonisten omfavner det positive tematiske argument, forplikter seg, etablerer løsningen på privat konflikt (intern, emosjonell story). ofrer seg for Stakes character. Dette etablerer løsning på B-story. Protagonisten handler så modig og dristig som mulig. Dette etablerer løsningen for A-plottet.
No: Til tross for høye ambisjoner, krasjer Protagonisten. Men han bretter opp ermene og går på.
Big No: Det sentrale spørsmålet er på nippet til å bli besvart i negativ retning. Vis helten (og eventuelt de allierte) gjøre et stort offer. Hent inn "Third act solution" som X-faktoren som gir Protagonisten en fordel.
Final Yes: Helten løser den private konflikten, noe som forløser den personlige konflikten (B-story), som igjen gir ham styrke/innsikt til å løse A-storyen. Jo tettere disse tre nivåene kan løses, jo bedre! Etterspillet samler trådene og viser protagonisten fullt aktualisert, returnert til sin vanlige verden hvor han aksepterer de positive verdier ved temaet. Klassisk Hollywood-ending.
Oppsummering
Så der har vi den modellen. I hovedtrekk sammenfaller jo mye med andre teorier (åttesekvensmodellen, BS2), men det er et par interessante ting å bite seg merke i:
Arketypene - Protagonistens reise og metamorfose. Hvordan han utvikler seg i løpet av historien, påvirket av sine omgivelser og dermed påvirkes også hans omgivelser i en sirkulær dialogisme mellom karakter og miljø.
Antagonisten - Hvis det ikke er et episk stykke, er det ofte at de antagonistiske kreftene faller ut. Men som det her påpekes kan de også være figurative. De kan komme fra innsiden, de kan komme som motsand fra miljøet. Men det må være en motsats til målet. Hva skjer "hvis ikke"?
Det sentrale spørsmålet - Filmen handler om et "skjer det?" som må kunne besvares enkelt... "skjer det?" for det er enkelt å ta stilling til, det er enkelt å heie på, det er enkelt å forstå... "Han skal redde henne. Klarer han det?".
Ja/Nei-parene - Apropos dialogisme. Andreakten skal ha en viktig vekselform... hver gang noe positivt skjer, kontrasteres dette med en motvekt. Tese-antitese... Blake Snyder har jo en tilsvarende løsning i sin modell med markering av +/- på hver beat, men Contour tydeliggjør dette forholdet bedre. Det som tydeliggjøres her (over Blakes modell) er at hele andre akt handler om det sentrale spørsmålet! Det er ikke noe rom for å spore av med masse sidehistorier - hver beat har en funksjon; å enten bringe oss nærmere eller lenger unna svaret på det sentrale spørsmålet.
Third Act Solution - Dette handler om frampek. Selv om third act solution er spesielt viktig, er det ikke nødvendig å stoppe der. Ta alltid en ekstra runde for å sjekke om det er andre frampek som kan bakes inn i en ytring eller et øyeblikk. Noe som peker mot alt som skal skje. Det binder narrativet og styrker koblingen mellom ulike handlingstråder. Og ved å la noe skje for så å grave det ned gjennom halve filmen, vil man fortsatt huske det og få en "Oh, snap!"-feel når det hentes opp igjen. Alle de beste bruker dette.
Positive og negative verdier ved den tematiske konflikten - Ingen andre modeller tar for seg akkurat dette. Debatten kommer ikke bare i forbindelse med om protagonisten skal forplikte seg til prosjektet, men også når han skal gå inn i den siste kampen. "Hva er det jeg kjemper for?", "Hvilke posisjoner eksisterer rundt dette temaet?", "Hva er min motivasjon, og er dette egoistisk eller selvoppofrende?". Veldig nyttig å tenke på. Skaper også et dypere og mer relaterbart narrativ; Publikum kan identifisere seg og minnes på å ta stilling til problemet før kampen fyrer løs.
Privat konflikt < Personlig konflikt < Hovedkonflikt - Måten de tre lagene av historien er nøstet sammen på er utrolig interessant. Den indre konflikten, den tematiske, løses først. Det tematiske forener Protagonisten med kjærlighetsobjektet/vennen/de allierte eller andre. Dette gir dermed enda større grunn til å kjempe og vinne den siste kampen. Veldig stilig.
Men: I forhold til andre modeller, er ikke tidslåsen fremhevet nok. Contour er sterk på de dype linjene i historien, men jeg syns fortsatt at Blake Snyders 5-point finale er uovertruffen. Åttesekvensen er uslåelig enkel og god for å ta en grovsortering. Jeg tror det kan være lurt å tenke slik:

Hva byr 2019 på?
Kalenderen fylles opp dette året også, men la meg ta for meg det første halvåret. For det første må jeg ut med forestillingen om Hervor i februar og mars, med tjue forestillinger. Dette blir støttet av FFUK og Oslo kommune. Forestillingen handler om den kvinnelige krigeren som bryter det som er forventet av en kvinne, ispedd en dose norrøn mytologi.
Men den store oppgaven er å komme i havn med…

Schoolyard: 9
It’s fun watching Thor work. He charms and chats with people, making them feel important and listening to their suggestions. You know that you’re just eye candy here, but when one man starts talking about vaccines and how ineffective they are you can’t stay quiet,
“I mean herd immunity right?” He says with a laugh.
“Actually, herd immunity should only be used in cases where a person physically cannot get immunized due to other health conditions. It shouldn’t be used just because someone doesn’t want to get an immunization.” The man laughs uncomfortably then gives Thor what you assume is his attempt at a charming smile.
“It’s like she’s a doctor or something.” He laughs and Thor looks coldly down at the other man.
“Mr. Pierce, my wife is a doctor.” He says shortly.
“W-wife?” Mr. Pierce says looking embarrassed.
“What kind of doctor are you?” T’Challa, the King of Wakanda and a friend of Thor’s asks.
“Pediatric. I just worked my last few days for a while but plan on getting back to it when I can.”
“Being Queen is a lot of responsibility.” T’Challa’s wife Nakia says, “it takes dedication to have a job outside of that but it’s possible.”
“I don’t need full time, just something to make me feel like I’m doing something good with my time.”
“I understand completely.” She says with a kind smile. You’ve got a feeling that you and Nakia are going to be good friends.
The rest of the night goes smoothly, although it seems that Mr. Pierce has a big mouth because several people come and congratulate you and Thor on your marriage. Some even seem a bit put out that they weren’t invited to the wedding. Neither of you give them any answers, you still don’t know how this conversation is going to go but you’d rather keep quiet until you can get it out of the way.
You step out for a moment, just needing a second alone, well with Bryn on your six, for a minute. Frigga was right, when you’re not in the crowded room it’s chilly and the little gauze fabric isn’t really enough. You’re looking over the pediatric wing when the soft material is draped over your shoulders.
“Elskede.”
“Thank you, krigeren min.” He smiles at the nickname.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, it’s just a lot. Now everyone knows that we’re married and I don’t know how I feel about any of this.”
“I know it’s a lot, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have called you my wife but I lost my temper.”
“Ah, so you’re not perfect.” You tease and he laughs.
“No, and if you ever need reminders just ask Loki. They will tell you.”
“Yes they will.” You agree with a little smile.
“We can leave whenever you’re ready.”
“One more glass of champagne? I’d like to say goodbye to Nakia and T’Challa too.”
“Of course. We have an open invite to go and visit them if you’d like.”
“That would be wonderful. I’ve heard Wakanda is incredible.”
“One of my favorite places to go.” He agrees as you turn and walk back toward the party. You slip your hand into his as you walk, it’s so natural now to just be touching him. When you get back into the room one of the men gives you a look that you don’t like then approaches.
“Excuse me. I read that you were cheating on the Crown Prince with people in the States. Is that true?” You stare at him, surprise on your face.
“Volstagg. Remove this man.” Thor orders, his deep voice carrying causing several people to look, “I will not allow such disrespect.” Volstagg hurries the man away from you.
“I’d like to go.” You say softly and Thor nods. He gives T’Challa a handshake and you and Nakia hug then he places a protective hand on your lower back and guides you out of the building. While you wait for the car Thor takes your hand and gives it a little squeeze.
“Don’t pay him any mind Elskede.” He says when you look up at him.
“It’s hard not to. I know what he said isn’t true but it still makes me look bad.”
“Min dronning,” he practically rumbles the words, “how can I make it better?”
“Just, let me process this okay? Be patient with me?”
“Of course.” He agrees pressing a kiss to the back of your hand. God he makes you weak in the knees. You follow Bryn down the the car then curl into Thor on the drive home. He keeps an arm around you as you ride back to the house, neither of you say much, he just trails his fingers up and down your arm.
When you get back you say goodnight to Sif and Volstagg then head to your room. Before you can get there you run into Odin.
“Father? You should be resting.”
“I’m fine. I need to speak to you.”
“I’ll leave you alone.” You tell them before pressing a soft kiss to Thor’s cheek.
“No, both of you.” Odin says gesturing for the two of you to follow him back to his rooms. Once you’re there he points at the seat for you to sit.
“I’ve come to a decision.”
“About what father?” Thor asks and when you look at him he looks as puzzled as you feel.
“I’m going to abdicate the throne to you.”
“Yes, father we’ve talked about this. After we get our annulment I’ll take the throne.” Thor says and you’re surprised, you had no idea this was happening.
“No, I’m abdicating in two days.” You gasp and Thor cries,
“What?” As Odin holds up a hand to silence you both.
“I have less than six months to live. The doctor told your mother and I tonight. I still have things I need to teach you but the best way to do so is with you as King. Besides, I want to live the remainder of my time with my wife. Being an old married couple.”
“Father-.”
“Thor, my Son. My first born and my heir, I know this isn’t what you wanted or had planned but this is what needs to happen.”
“This isn’t what the plan was!”
“I know.” Odin is calm but Thor is anything but. He storms out of the room and you’re left sitting there with Odin. He goes to follow him when you stand,
“I’ve got this. Please, rest, give yourself as much time as you can with them.” You tell him and he gives you a tight smile before you follow Thor out the door nearly crashing into his sibling. “Loki?”
“I saw him leave, I know where he will go and I’ll bring you there but you can’t tell him it was me.”
“Why?”
“Just in case he’s mad, he won’t get mad at you like he will me.”
“Deal.” You tell them and they lead you away from Odin’s room. “Do you know what Odin spoke to him about?”
“Yes, father is abdicating. We don’t have much time left with our father do we?” Loki asks softly as the two of you move quickly through the palace.
“There are some things we can try, but they won’t cure him. Just give him more time. I’m sorry.” Loki nods once, they don’t say anything until they stop before a short corridor with a tapestry hanging in it. They move the tapestry to one side and you see another small hallway.
“He should be in there, left hand door way at the end of the hallway.”
“Thank you Loki.” You tell them giving their hand a squeeze. Sure enough you find Thor storming back and forth in the small room. You don’t say anything, he throws a bottle across the room where it shatters into pieces, then sinks down onto the older couch in the corner of the room.
“I’m sorry.” He says gruffly and you move slowly into the room. You step in between his legs and he wraps his arms around you. He takes a deep shuddering breath and you rest one hand on his shoulder and card the fingers of your other hand through his hair.
“You have nothing to be sorry about.” You assure him softly, it’s then his shoulders begin to shake and soft sobs escape him. You let him cry against you, just carding your fingers through his hair.
“I’m not ready.” He says, his voice thick.
“You’re not ready for what?”
“To lose my father.”
“Oh Honey.” You soothe, that’s what this is all about. You thought maybe he was upset about having to become King too soon, or not having time to annul your marriage before doing so, but that’s not it. This is about a boy being afraid to lose his father. “You still have time min kjærlighet, there are things we can try. I’m not making promises that they’ll work but we can try.”
“Thank you.” He says into your torso, before falling silent again. When he speaks again it’s in a much more steady voice, “Did Loki bring you here?”
“I am not supposed to confirm or deny that.” He gives a small huff of a laugh.
“I’m glad they did.” He’s quiet again before he says softly, “Jeg elsker deg.”
