Cosmic Legacy Challenge for TS3

Oh wow, its my third challenge. Anyway, I was looking for new challenges and wondered why no one has made a planet themed challenge for TS3 (there's a lot for TS4). So I decided to make one.

Cosmic Legacy Challenge is a 11 gen challenge that includes the sun, planets, the moon,and Pluto because I wanted Pluto so therefore, its spaced theme. Each generation is based off a mix of astronomy, astrology,and greek/roman mythology. Some of the goals in certain generations require your sim crying/drama and if that’s your playstyle that’s cool but heads up if it isn’t. So if you enjoy space, space themed adventures, or a bit of drama from time to time in your legacies, this might be for you.

You don’t have to use all of the traits, just 2-3 required

You can move onto the next generation when all of the goals are met or when the next heir ages to a YA

If you don’t have a certain expansion pack that is related to a goal, skip it or do an alternative goal that fits.

It doesn’t stop you from being a person of action and it also doesn’t stop people from wanting to be your friend (since they won’t stop coming over to your house). While your anger can hurt those close to you, it also provides a way for you to keep your boundaries respected and your inner world at peace. So for some much needed self care, please go to the spa or eat a Snickers.

Master the Athletic skill

Woohoo with 10 different sims in 10 different places

Reach the top of the military or athletic career

Have a set of twins (can have more children than that)

7. ♃ Jupiter:

Dang you’re massive but that’s what makes you a great leader. Your presence is intensely large and it allows others to see your greatness as well as draw them into you. But while you are a storm to be feared, you don’t exactly have the best foundation within yourself. That’s why you have taken upon yourself to expand your inner world and focus on becoming the best version of yourself. But while you’ve always believed you are a good person, don’t forget that you are also flawed and susceptible to making mistakes just like the rest of us.

Traits: Commitment Issues, Adventurous, Lucky, Flirty, Good

Goals:

Obtain 2 degrees from university

Be best friends with your sibling(s)

It’s the discipline and precision of your routine that keeps you going.

Baby you’re cold as ice. No seriously. You believe you can reach the heavens and the sky is merely just the stepping stool for your hopes and dreams as a writer. Trying to go the traditional route in life is not for you and you hate when others try to put you in that box. You believe in creating change for others as well as getting rid of systems that bring down your fellow sim. If you have to do some questionable things in order to achieve those goals, well the end justifies the means.

As you search for your answers, you find some in the supernatural and the expression of art. But don’t let your journeys become obsessions. You can only go so far down the rabbithole before it’s too late to pull you out.

It took a while, like a long while, but you did find something to build a foundation and now you can move your best foot forward in life’s journey for you. Quite the transformation.

Goals:

Master the alchemy and street art skill

Your spouse has to have the Green Thumb trait.

As a teenager, you worked in the cemetery part time

You have an indifference relationship with your family (not enemies but just barely acquaintances)

During your YA years, get fired from 3 different jobs and move to a different town away from your family.

Have 3 dogs and become best friends with all of them

Legacies in Camp Jupiter/Just Pjo?

Wow I am on a roll! Anyway I’ve been wanting to do this and the power post just really dragged up this issue in my head back to the forefront, and it is someone that really continuously confuses me on a basic level of how Rick chose to let this category function.

Legacies are a type of Demigod introduced in HoO that are directly related to Gods but aren’t first generation. They are not children of gods but like grandkids, great-grandkids, so on and so on. This is not a new concept, it is as old as myths themselves, the first thing that pops up in my mind was Troy’s royal family was said in myths to be descended from Zeus. That makes someone like Hector (in Pjo-verse vocabulary) a legacy in the Pjo canon.

But.. Legacies aren’t really different to demigods? Like- not different enough that they would get classified as differently-? For several reasons I believe, but the main three points I want to make (because apparently all my thoughts come in packs of 3), is that 1) Legacies and Demigods are shown to have the same godly-ability level as one another/ it’s inconsistent, 2) somewhat through the books themselves they just sort of stop using the word Legacy/Legacies never have anything that set them apart from demigods, 3) this is a new concept to distinguish them (this is the weakest but it feels weird that Rick decided to differentiate Legacies and Demigods when myths never really did too much, but when did Rick care about the source material- okay, that was rude I’m just still annoyed over Ares-)

Anyway,

Legacies and Demigods powers. Legacies are shown to have similar power levels to Demigods, or those powers are inconsistent. I bring this up because it feels odd? That legacies would have a similar broad level of abilities while still being more mortal than god (this depends and I’ll talk about what I think for like hc on New Rome and their legacy population) but we have characters like Bryce Lawerence; who has powers like, shadow travel (the shadow travel is implied but I’ll get into why it’s likely he has some form of enhanced ability to travel), enhanced tracking (also implied but this will fit into the travel thing), summoning the damned souls of those who broke oaths, along with being implied to have visited the underworld at some point because he mentions hearing the screams of the fields of punishment. But let’s also remember that BoO takes place somewhere in 8-9 days (starts July 20, ends Aug 3) the Bryce attack scene is on chapter XXX while Bryce being brought back to the legion is in chapter VI. No less than if I remember correctly like 2-3 days could’ve past. There are a couple things, he’s stealthy enough that Nico doesn’t notice him. We don’t get any confirmation that he’d been following them for a while (from all I know of Bryce’s character I have to assume he wasn’t or he would’ve 100 percent taken the first chance to attack them) but he is able to get from Long Island to South Carolina on foot, and seemingly appear out of nowhere. There is probably a logical explanation but also considering the fact he knows what’s happening to Nico (that shadow traveling fading that doesn’t seem to matter?) makes me consider and lean more to the idea that he can shadow travel (honestly would love to make another post on Bryce Lawerence because no one cares about him but I really find him interesting). But if he can do the (implied shadow travel) and the very apparent necromancy he has the same skill set of Nico! Never mind the tiny little difference in the necromancy, they have the same power and the same level of that power. The difference is that one is a legacy, and one is a Demigod- but there doesn’t seem to be a power difference. Secondly Frank’s shapeshifting thing, I’ll be real and say I just think that’s a thing because like Poseidon gifted it? I think of it as the same way that like the Red panda gift from turning Red is going strong because it was a blessing or whatever. And Octavian, who is (said, for some reason Rick wanted to put in that maybe Octavian never had powers at all but that’s stupid and takes away what little things Octavian has) but he also, doesn’t seem to have a dip in powers? I don’t care much for seeing the Apollo kids but it seems that they all can have varied powers (fitting seeing as Apollo was a god of so many things) and Octavian’s skill doesn’t seem limited in any way (would’ve been great if we got more information on it because we have no idea how it works compared to say, the way we know how the Oracle stuff works) but all of this puts a clear image that from the legacies we know, there doesn’t seem to be a big difference in power. Which is odd, seeing as they don’t feel like they should.

Through HoO Rick really just like- stopped talking about legacies? I’m laughing as I’m writing this but know it’s a saddened laugh because like. Rachel refers to Octavian as Son of Apollo (Which could be argued she doesn’t know what a Legacy is but I feel like since her Oracle powers told her everything else it would’ve informed her of his proper title- or I guess not because the writing didn’t care at all about Octavian-) and I think Reyna mentions Bryce is a legacy though it’s not referenced any more. Bryce just brings up Orcus in some dialogue and that’s about it. If you’re going to bring up a new type of Demigod then why not explore them more? HoO doesn’t explore like anything but still, Frank never has thoughts about his Legacy stuff. We don’t even get any notes about Greek demigods not considering most of the Roman Legacies Demigods because they aren’t the direct Children of the Gods? It just like- Legacies kind of do nothing, there is nothing different about a legacy.

Mythology doesn’t even really distinguish the two? Like- again because I’ve read the Iliad and Odyssey it’s what I always think first. Hector mentions he is also related to Zeus- that there is a distinct thing about demigods like Sarpedon, Achilles, and Aeneas. But there never is something where it calls out, “Oh Hectors great-great-great grandpa is Zeus and that’s super different and crazy” but it’s just “Hectors related to Zeus y’know and he’s gonna kick your butt man >:[“ obviously this is a random point because those are ancient texts. But we have to remember that Pjo is founded off of these myths and the fact that Legacies are a part of these myths but distinctly different (literally everyone who is descended from Zeus which is literally everyone- not literally but like-) operate differently, they are essentially no different than their fully mortal companions other than they can sport a God ancestor and the most convoluted family tree.

Okay. Those are the points that I’ve made. All of those boil down into like “Rick did nothing to differentiate Legacies from Demigods other than slap a different name on them” and that’s a missed opportunity. It’d be like if something like Harry Potter went, “Here are wizards that are said to be different than other magic users but all that’s different are their titles!” That might be a thing I don’t know I don’t consume Harry Potter. But there was a ball and it was slammed into the ground (huh, almost like Rick did that with a lot of things related to Camp Jupiter and the Romans- also the Romans canonically have cars and I don’t like that). But I have some Head-canons about legacies for my re-imagining to hopefully make them, make more sense?

The longer a legacy line is, the more ‘diluted’ the power becomes. Like in the myths, after you hit a certain point most legacies will have incredibly weak powers. This adds to the powers post I made (shameless plug that you should read that one too because I’m proud of it.) and how the legacies affect the Romans view on powers. But this means that the farther you get down a family line the less and less powerful the power is. Say a child of Zeus has children and then like ten generations down the line the descendants could be more resistant to lightning, conduct it easier and attract it a little more, maybe jump a big higher but that’s about it. Example, Michael Kahale In my re-imagining comes from a super duper long line and his powers pretty much are, I look pretty, I’m a little more persuasive from remnants of charm-speak (and I want to buff up the Aphrodite cabin more because Rick really just didn’t care when it came to them)

This doesn’t include ‘gifts’ like Frank’s. I think by the will of the God that blessed the ancestor with it they keep the power strong. This goes the same way for curses, maybe. If the curse is not revered than it probably is passed onto your kid.

In common sense, the fresher the legacy the more potent the power. And sometimes there can be mutations that a child can end up with more potent powers, whether that be the wishes of the Godly ancestor or they just get miracle genes it could act as a soft re-boot to strengthen the powers. For examples; Bryce is a very new legacy, his dad is the direct child of Orcus and Bryce gets passed down all of the cool powers (also need a hc for his mother because she comes from a legacy line) or Octavian was just.. born with the more potent powers, I like to think Apollo noted him and took interest to strengthen his powers for some reason. (Note he also is a legacy of Venus but I haven’t worked out if that affects him and how, but the Venus part is much more downplayed)

Legacies who have mixed godly blood/ several different lines that have merged have a little from everything, their powers are weaker but if like for example a Child of Athena with a Hermes legacy might have a easier time stealing things, or be a little faster than their peers. But these end up very minimal because the direct child aspect overpowers it a lot (idk I don’t know hypothetical demigod genes and how they work so let’s just go with it) this is similar with legacies+legacies though the family will usually stick to one legacy title (sort of how last names are passed on, but a partner wouldn’t take up the legacy title of the family. But a child would) while the powers honestly could be all over the place

Okay that’s all I think right now, if I have anything else I’ll probably make a separate post but for me right now it is very nighttime and I need my sleep so I can crush my siblings in various unserious competition.

The Pisces Heart of Cinderella 👸🐭👗👠🏰

Claire Nakti had made a video about UBP's connection to Cinderella. While I wholeheartedly think its bs to reduce one entire nakshatra's legacy down to them marrying rich, I do think the connection to Cinderella was right. HOWEVER, I have a different take on it.

Cinderella is not merely a story about a poor girl who marries a Prince. Cinderella is a good person stuck in a really unfortunate circumstance. She is mistreated by her own family ("step-family" but receiving step-treatment is a common theme in the lives of many UBP folks) Despite it all, Cinderella is a hard worker, kind, gentle and imaginative. Its really hard to not give into bitterness when you're in a such a position but Cinderella? She's a sweetheart. She puts her head down and does the work without complaint. And soon enough she's rewarded for it. The Fairy Godmother is the embodiment of her good karma; what goes up has to come down and eventually your goodness and sincerity will be recognized. We have to take into consideration the time and place in which Cinderella was written, which is hundreds of years ago. Marriage was the only way out for women and in many parts of the world, it still is.

In this context, Cinderella going to the Ball was her receiving an opportunity to transform her life. We can come up with many "feminist" alternatives where Cinderella is a dressmaker or a boss babe or whatever but its pointless to apply 21st century morality to a fairy tale. Think of it as an allegory. The Prince here represents good fortune and Pisces is the final rashi/sign and represents the culmination of all good things. Cinderella has worked her whole life for this, this is her turning point. She gets to marry into royalty and live in a castle. This of course can be taken literally as we've seen many UBP women marry into wealth but it is also a metaphor; if you work hard enough (not just actual labour but also spiritual/karmic work) you will achieve breakthrough. In order to break out of cycles, we must put the work in. And Pisces/12h is all about breaking patterns and coming out of the cycle. The close association with butterflies should say enough. The butterfly endures the pain of transformation and breaks out of the cocoon in order to emerge as her true self.

Remember that Revati is the birth nakshatra of Saturn.

The themes of karma, justice and fair-play are very evident in Revati nakshatra (which is the birth of Saturn) as well as UBP (which is a Saturnian nakshatra).

These are the two naks that lie entirely within Pisces rashi so they're what I refer to when I speak of Pisces. (0-3 degrees of Purva bhadrapada will also be included)

Cinderella wasn't chosen at random. It wasn't sheer luck. She was wearing glass slippers that her Fairy Godmother gave her. Those were specifically made for her. Going with the earlier metaphor of the Fairy being the embodiment of karma, the slipper represents the rewards that Cinderella has earned. Even when she walks away from the Ball, the trace of her karmic footprint (literally lol) remains there. What is meant for you cannot miss you. And eventually, Cinderella gets her due.

Cinderella is a deeply Saturnian story and Pisces rashi itself has both Saturn & Jupiter influence, representing two sides to the same coin and the Wheel of Fortune. The sign of Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, the largest, most expansive planet associated with luck and abundance. Meanwhile, UBP nakshatra is ruled by Saturn and Revati nakshatra is the birth nakshatra of Saturn. Vedic mythology and astrology is full of paradoxes and contradictions, representing the duality yet singularity of human existence. Therefore it's only fitting that the concluding nakshatra that literally means "wealth" would be the one under which Saturn, planet of discipline, karma & limitations would be born.

One cannot exist without the other. Jupiter mahadasha is followed by Saturn mahadasha and even though Jupiter is known as the giver, Jupiter's blessings are more short term, it is Saturn that gives long lasting success and good fortune because Saturn only rewards the worthy.

The theme of going from rags to riches is present in the lives of many Pisces natives.

Another nakshatra that has similar themes is Punarvasu.

Now I'll mention some Cinderella adaptations and the actresses who played Cinderella (Claire already covered many in her video so I'll try to include less common examples)

I had to start with the OG 1950 animated Disney film. It stars Ilene Woods as Cinderella

Ilene has a very interesting chart that makes her the perfect choice for Cinderella.

She is Bharani Sun, UBP Moon, Mercury in Rohini, (exalted) Venus in Revati (atmakaraka) Mars in Punarvasu, Ketu in Vishaka and Ashlesha Rising

All of these naks connect to different aspects of the story and emphasize a lot of common themes.

Bharani, as I'd explained in my post about Venus naks is strongly associated with karma and is presided by Lord Yama, God of Death, time, karma, justice and punishment. Bharani is a very transformative nakshatra and I'll go so far as to say that being in the company of a Bharani native triggers transformation/karma in others as well.

Rohini & Mrigashira are also strongly associated with fairy tales (I'll make a separate post about them in the future) and themes of running away, seeking a new home, being a misfit/outsider in your own house etc are common Rohini themes.

Punarvasu literally means "return of the light". Jupiter can give but he also takes. All Jupiter naks have themes of both gain and loss. Especially with Punarvasu natives, I think there is often a tendency to take their initial success/prosperity for granted/take it too seriously/have their head in the clouds, so they lose it and then re-gain what they lost or even more in the future, thus making a "return to light". Rags to riches is a common theme for these natives.

Vishaka nakshatra is known for having many enemies and for having many haters. They often find themselves in an environment where they're an outcast in some way. Being misunderstood is a HUGE theme.

Ashlesha, as I'd explained in my post about the nak often manifests as dysfunctional relationship with their mother and for receiving step-daughterly treatment at home. Obviously this is a major element of Cinderella's story as well.

Lua de Cristal, the 1990 Brazilian adaptation of Cinderella stars Xuxa as Cinderella.

She has UBP sun & stellium (mercury and jupiter) Bharani Moon along with Pushya Mars & Rising

Pushya is considered the most auspicious nakshatra and known for being a "wealth giving" nakshatra but as a Saturn ruled nak, these natives often undergo a lot of trials and tribulations.

First Love (1939) is based on Cinderella and stars Deanna Durbin as the protagonist.

She has Jyeshta Sun, Anuradha Mercury & Venus with Ketu & Rising in Revati

Jyeshta is a nakshatra associated with unluckiness and poverty. It is generally considered an inauspicious nakshatra but as Claire's research has shown its the birth nakshatra of numerous billionaires, nodding to the paradoxical nature of Vedic astrology/mythology.

Any woman who plays Cinderella is going to have heavy Saturnian energy and Deanna is no different with that double Anuradha; which is also the height of Saturnian restriction.

the gender swapped 1960 adaptation titled Cinderfella stars Jerry Lewis as Fella.

He has Purvabhadrapada Sun (2 degrees Pisces), Mercury in Revati, Rahu and Rising in Punarvasu

This 2012 Russian adaptation of Cinderella stars Kristina Asmus as the titular character.

She has UBP Moon, Revati Mercury (atmakaraka) Venus in Rohini and Jupiter in Bharani

Mary Pickford starred as Cinderella in one the earliest screen adaptations in 1914.

She has Revati Sun atmakaraka, Venus in Rohini, Jupiter in UBP and Ketu in Vishaka

If the Shoe Fits (1990) stars Jennifer Grey as Cinderella. She has UBP Sun & Moon with Ketu in Purvabhadrapada (0 degree pisces)

Korean Dramas are notorious for playing with the Cinderella trope so here are a few Kdrama examples:

The Last Empress stars Jang Na-ra (UBP sun conjunct mars) as a Cinderella esque character.

Here's Drew Barrymore (Punarvasu Moon) in Ever After which is a Cinderella adaptation devoid of magic.

The stepmom is played by Punarvasu Sun Anjelica Huston

The "good" stepsister who is instrumental to the turning point of the plot and who ensures justice is served is played by Melanie Lynskey who is Bharani Moon with a Revati stellium

Claire recently made a video about Punarvasu where she said there is a theme of losing something, repenting and gaining it again. The contrast between opposites, light vs dark, beauty vs ugliness etc is a big theme in this nak. I think this movie does a great job of representing Punarvasu.

The good and the evil are both played by Punarvasu natives. This is crucial because Punarvasu is all about cycles. By the end of the movie we see the good person aka Cinderella rewarded for her goodness and the evil stepmother punished for her cruelty. Punarvasu means return to light and this also means nobody goes unpunished.

Its even more poignant that the person most crucial to ensuring that justice is served is played by a Bharani Moon native (Bharani IS karma itself tbh) and that she herself is neglected by her mother and treated like an outsider.

Lastly, it's interesting af to me that in almost every adaptation of this story, right from the very beginning to now, Pisces natives are cast as Cinderella along with a group of certain naks recurring again and again.

At the time, rescuing this random demigod was the right thing to do, but looking back, if you had just let him be trampled by the contents of Tartarus, it would have fixed a lot of your problems. Instead you opened the gates to Camp Jupiter and let him in.

-Both of you stood beyond the gates, which were made out of some solid metal that the Trivia kids had installed. They had never disclosed what it was that vaporized the monsters the second they touched it. You should probably check in with that, now that you think about it.

-Perseus had made quite the fuss when the first cohort and the praetors showed up, making giant hands out of one of the rivers that ran along the edge of the city and then being introduced by a god. He took it all in his stride, and even had the nerve to back-talk Octavian [something you’d never admit to wanting to do yourself].

-You hated him immediately.

-Well, maybe not hate, hate was a strong word for simple feelings. You would just rather if Percy [he had corrected the use of his name immediately. You were grateful. Perseus was a stupid name.] had a bit more respect for the way Camp Jupiter worked, and stopped teaching the younger soldiers swear words during meal times.

-A few days into his stay, he approached you in one of the large canvas tents set up. You’d been mapping out which of the hills you were going to use as a base in the next war game with Dakota, when he tripped on his shoelaces and righted himself, grinning at both you and Dakota.

-Apparently he wanted to thank you for not leaving him out the border to fight off the army of monsters on his tail, and volunteered to help out on your team during the war games in return.

-You told him you would consider once he learnt to tie his shoelaces properly.

-You’d then assumed that would be the last of it, thankfully, [although for some reason you’d scan the fifth cohorts section sometimes for a mess of black hair, but you were just trying to keep the younger soldiers vocabulary appropriate. Obviously.] and spent the rest of the day taking poisonous bows and quivers off the children of Mercury, and explaining to the daughter of Pluto that she wasn’t allowed to ‘have a go at summoning a horse skeleton for funsies’.

-Reyna marched between the canvas tents with her metal dogs, barking instructions and sending out a few Helios kids and legacies as medics.

-Ten minutes before the game officially started, when the opposite side were posted up too far away to see their silhouettes on the mountain ridge, and the children of Mars were untying the war elephant from its posts and readying it for battle, Percy burst back into the tent. One of the leopards getting a spiked collar attached to its neck growled, but settled back down when Dakota spoke sharply to it. Lavinia went to shoo Percy out, but something about the easy grin on his lips made you wave a hand, and Lavinia went back to instructing the Vulcan children.

-Percy ran to you, and in quite the untimely fashion, kicked one of his feet up onto the battle plans, mud and dirt smearing across the maps and charts. Before you could yell at him, you spotted his shoes.

-“How’s that for being allowed to fight?” Somehow, in the few hours he’d had spare, Percy had acquired a pair of purple velcro sneakers.

-You stood there for a moment, and then narrowed your eyes at him, folding your arms as well, just to make your point. “If you left Camp Jupiter I will have to report you, you know that, right?”

-He just smirked. “You like me too much. And don’t worry, I traded Octavian's diary for them, some Venus legacy guy had a spare pair. Purple isn’t really my color, but watch!”

-Thankfully, he took his feet off the table, but a moment later he was running across the cramped tent, and threw his arms out for balance as small wheels popped out of the soles of his shoes. A coat of shields crashed to the floor, and the leopard in the corner jumped to its feet and scampered out. Someone yelled and Percy proceeded to spin in a circle and then slip and fall.

-For the first time, you became annoyed that your reflexes were so good, because Percy was sprawled out in your arms, which were under his, keeping him from becoming impaled by a stray electric spear. You held your breath for as long as you could, pulling your expression into one blank of emotions, but then you couldn’t hold it any longer.

-You laughed.

-Pery turned around, pulling his shirt down and skidding a little on the floor. His green eyes you only just noticed were the same shade as the lake near the stables were wide, and he was slack jawed.

-Your stomach started to hurt as you giggled, “what?”

-“You can laugh!”

-“Of course I can laugh, Perseus, I am a person.”

-“I didn’t know you could laugh. And it’s Percy, don’t make fun of me.”

-You went back to glaring at him quickly, and he visibly dulled. You just rolled your eyes and began brushing mud dewy grass of the battle plans. He peeked over your shoulder, hair tickling your neck, so you planted one of the little markers Dakota liked to use to show where people would be patrolling.

-Percy pouted, and you quickly looked away from his mouth [why were you even looking at his mouth?], “can’t I be the horse?”

-“The Pluto girl is the horse, she’s making sinkholes along the tracks to our base, trying to dilute the flow of soldiers. You can be the dog, it’s cute.”

-“You think I’m cute?”

-His smile when he said that was in fact, cute, but you didn’t tell him that. Instead you picked up another of the little coloured markers, and moved it to where you’d initially put the dog. “Fine, you can be the toucan, because you’re an imbecile.”

-“No wait, I wanna be the dog now... And what did toucans ever do to you?”

-You became quite accustomed to the sound of smooth clicking, a scrape, and then Percy yelping and bumping into the back of you over the next few days.

To the north, beyond the gods, lies the legion's crown.

Falling from ice, the son of Neptune shall drown.

-You didn’t see him off.

-You knew it wasn’t polite, the entirety of the army stood on the shore as Percy, the Pluto girl, and the boy who cared for the war elephant waved them off. But you stayed at your post by the border instead, watching cloud animals and pretending not to see someone sinking to their death in each one.

-But the army didn’t sit with him at every meal because technically, you were a superior and didn’t have an assigned legion, you had just usually sat with Reyna or Jason. You’d eat the breads and nuts and fruits the satyrs and harpies brought while Percy ate everything in sight that was even slightly blue.

-The army wasn’t given a daisy chain as a crown when you showed Percy through the gardens, the trees and flowers acting as borders to the paths leading across the city in the direction of the universities and shops. The army didn’t find an old basketball in the weapons shed and learn to play with Percy, because he couldn’t remember playing before, but he was good.

-The army didn’t sneak him into the stables because really you weren’t allowed but somehow the rearing black stallions calmed him when his breathing got too fast and uneven.

-The army didn’t sit at the edge of the river bed while he ducked under and splashed around like a happy duckling. That stopped when the prophecy was first spoken. Percy skirted around puddles on the last day.

-There was blood. Lots of it. Smoke wafting from the scattered fires and screams piercing the muggy air.

-You held your weapon tightly in your hand, back to back with Dakota as he brandished a baseball bat wound tight with thorny vines that curled and writhed like snakes.

-Monsters crawled over the mountain ridge in waves, at least half of them squashed by the giant stomping in circles and roaring, creating miniature earthquakes with each step. Alcyoneus was forty feet tall, his skin a metallic sort of color that shone like the sun Helios was bringing into the middle of the stormy sky.

-The fifth legion ran into places, maps and diagrams you’d drilled into them, finally being put to use as they worked effortlessly. The war elephant had doubled, somehow, and both charged at the violent giant currently ripping the roof off the stables, knocking him sideways.

-For a short moment, you assumed maybe a finger had been cut off from the monster, as a bronze sort of color streaked across the horizon, but then it came to a stop in front of Lavinia, who was dragging an unconscious demigod across the battlefield in the direction of the hidden medic base by the university.

-Hazel, the Pluto girl [you’d finally learnt her name] sat atop a stallion, her cavalry helmet over her curly hair. You made eye contact, and her shoulder sunk, but you weren’t sure if it was with relief or disappointment. You couldn’t see her expression from across the bloodstained distance, but you could see the blue harpy foaming at the mouth behind her, talons outstretched.

-You turned to Dakota, but he was already kneeling a little, bracing himself as you stepped on one of his hands, and then he launched you forwards and up, up into the smokey air filled with screams and wails.

-Time slowed a little as you positioned yourself, wind whipping your eyes and making them sting. Hazel ducked as you flipped over her and landed on the Harpies back, rolling it away and further down the hill. Talons raked your cheek, and you whacked it over the head, hard.

-The bronze streak was gone already. Somehow the horse was running vertically up the side of the giant, and then began circling its neck.

-The sleeve of your purple shirt was ripped free and you held it to your face, the deep cuts dripping down your neck and already staining your skin in dark red blotches. Pain prickled, but you felt a chill down your spine, and by the time you had turned, the horned snake’s jaw was already unhinged, fangs dripping with something dark and oily and ready to bite.

-Your heart slowed, or maybe it sped up, all you knew was that it was the only thing you could hear.

-You held your arms in front of your scratched up face and tried to roll, but the snake's tail was already heavy across you, pining you to the blood stained cobblestone ground. You reached for where your weapon had been lost in the wrestle a moment before, but then there was a dragged out squelching sound and a ‘shing’.

-The snake froze, and then its head slipped off its body, landing by Percy’s feet.

-He launched forwards as quickly as the snake had, only he pulled you from the cocoon of scales, panting. Your hands shook, and Percy’s eyes widened when he spotted the splatter of blood on your neck, his face going pale.

-You shook your head weakly, “just my cheek, it’s not bad.”

-He nodded, and then you were once again wrapped up tightly, this time by Percy’s arms. You noticed vaguely that he was actually pretty buff, but then you felt your eyes prickle with emotion.

-He stepped back quickly, ducking his head, “sorry, I..”

-“You didn’t drown.”

- “I technically did but it’s all good now-”

-You cut him off with another hug, your face buried in his shoulder, probably covering him in your own blood as well, but Percy didn’t seem to mind when he hugged you back, chest heaving. You sniffed, trying not to cry, hands tight around his hoodie, “you smell like incense and hay.”

-“That, yeah that explains a lot of it actually.”

-“You don’t get to go on another quest without me, that’s an order.”

-“Yes please.”

Security/Injuries in Camp Jupiter

Alternate title, ‘Why Camp is literally so unsafe and why we need the Valitudinarium/Camp medical office because everyone will be dead without it’

Okay I just said a lot of words (as usual) but I want to talk about the security in Camp Jupiter. Because guys- why aren’t we shown that these people are INFESTED with monsters.

We are told that the temple hill frequently gets Basilisk burrow problems, and we know that Terminus’s whole safe bubble only applies to New Rome because ‘Conquer or Die’ more interesting analysis of Camps inner workings and interesting stuff that it is too early in the morning to talk about!!

(I’m writing this at 7:17 and I am not in any condition to think about the horrors that these legionnaires must see on a daily basis.)

But yeah, we know that the Temple hill (which is a whole other weird can of worms to have a temple hill? I’d have to look into it more but having them all condensed in that little area feels a little funky- but that’s not the point of this post I’m getting sidetracked) gets infested. Just want to keep reminding people that this is sort of founded off of canon concepts,

But we know that one demigod out in the mortal realm attracts monsters like a fly zapper, and we know the more condensed they are the more monsters they attract (which I’ll also mention brings up some very fun questions about Camp Half-Blood before they had the Thalia shield.) and considering that ‘Big 3’ kids also are said to attract more monsters (wild that we don’t see Percy like regularly deal with monsters. Like- they say they do, but I feel like in the book they don’t really seem to attract much monsters at all once they’re released. Thats for another post tho-)

But from everything said in canon, Camp Jupiter is like a giant neon blinky sign saying ‘all you can eat buffet’ to every monster in a 50 mile radius (I made up that 50 mile number it’s just for the thing, not a real measure) and if we add the fact that Greek demigods aren’t allowed to live in the Bay Area (partially because of Camp Jupiter probably-) but also because it has some of the highest monster populations due to like mt.tam or something (i think that’s what they said. Though then i feel like Los Angelos should similarly be crawling with the buggers due to the underworld but idk!)

But yeah, Camp Jupiter is giant monster attraction. That’s what all that was trying to get at, so I’d like to propose some not so silly camp ideas.

Camp Jupiter’s most dangerous (and most needed) roles are probably tied at Messengers, Scouts, and Sentries (I believe they’re sentries, but I could be wrong. The people on guard duty out at the walls) but these are the jobs I can solidly see having the highest injury rate from monsters (we won’t include various officers/people in power getting injured due to conspiracy,mutiny, etc.)

But I’ll start with Sentries/guards. They are needed, for the obvious reasons. While they are also the most likely to spot some monsters getting a little too close to camp, have to deal with anything trying to slip in, and being the first line of defense or whatever if there’s minor threats that don’t need a whole cohort to take care of (like obviously the guards aren’t gonna be left to deal with like a chimera or anything on their own- but smaller things, like idk I’m sleepy guys) but they also get to be the people popped into the Camp medical thing (I want to say Valitudinarium but it’s a long word and not a lot of people see it and immediately know I’m talking about the camp hospital) because “hey guys, Tim got burned pretty badly after we spotted a couple Cockatrices nesting on a crag in the wall :[“

Then since I seem to be going in reverse are scouts. They don’t need their scouts as much in purely canon Camp Jupiter. But in purely canon Camp Jupiter then in periods where they need the scouts (I’d assume war situations or whatever) they’re going out on their own or in very small groups (guys let’s note that i don’t know how a scout would operate and frankly for this post I’d prefer just to get this idea down here and then think about it later) but they’re left to essentially do the Annabeth thing. And knowing from that group they got swarmed by monsters. So I’d say safe to say that scouts get pretty regularly picked off or at least injured during wartimes.

Now IF we talk about my hc for the 5 missing cohorts being out at settlements around the Americas (just because the 5 being missing bothered me so much) then scouts there are more common for whatever various reasons- and that means they still also get regularly picked off and injured, just probably more often because these scouts wouldn’t just be during wartimes

And finally messengers. They’re role is self-explanatory, I’d see them as Messengers/Heralds/whatever we need some people to go do the thing. Okay aside from that (I am back at writing, it is now 3:03 and I’m getting home, please my head hurts and my braincells were used up like powerups bare with me) but messengers also get injured a lot for similar reasons to the scouts (wow big shocker) but I’d assume they’d be just the smallest bit safer if we assume they operate like mailmen between Camp Jupiter and New Rome and therefore have nice roads, the little protect bubble/Legionnaires everywhere. (I’d like to mention the total missed opportunity to introduce some characters who are messengers/Heralds/Scouts at the Greek & Roman meeting because you can’t convince me Octavian would let Reyna be dumb enough to walk straight into a crowd of their current enemies without sending a couple people to scope out the area-) but yeah, messengers- I haven’t given them much though but I probably will when I start talking about physical roles in Camp Jupiter. They probably also get injured a lot but not as often.

Okay now id like to also say that Camp has amazing walls (I mean the Romans *In Rick Riordan canon* are descended from Trojans and they had a pretty rad wall-) but yeah, I imagine the walls are tall and imposing and scary!! You see a lot more legionnaires constantly carrying weapons or having them at their bedsides because, “Oh sometimes we’re unlucky and a hellhound’ll get through” or “One time we had some sirens come in from the aqueducts connected to the bay that got into the bathhouse”

At Random times at night it’s pretty common to see a commotion because something got in, or a legionnaires missing, or someone is getting someone to the medics-

A lot more scars compared to Camp Half-Blood, scarring is easier when your constantly in danger and using Imperial gold weapons on each other,

Which that last statement bleeds into this one. We are told how dangerous Imperial Gold is- and take into consideration that the Legionnaires are never said to practice with anything different (I’d assume they’d use commons methods of like the ball on the tip of the spear or whatever to stop from like murder but still-??) and war games.

Every single legionnaires lives, sleeps, and breaths in the Camp Hospital, it’s a big building. Every time camp can get their claws into another medic rejoice. And these poor medics, if we consider how bad we think it is over at Camp Half-Blood

These kids regularly shoot each other with siege weapons, throw balls with various chemical concoctions (I would like to say yea, that is a canon thing. It’s called death ball in SoN.) Medics barely get any respite and so little reward for their work because everyone is focused on the people who fight (Which- still deserve the recognition, just saying.)

But yeah, I got off track again- I think? Idk, I’d like to say during the Titan war Camp got the highest surge in injury/death. Due to monsters and demigods n stuff, that is my hc at least to explain to my head why Camp Jupiter feels so empty in SoN and the other books it appears in.

I cried in my English class guys, I uh. Processed a lot from chapter 12 of the outsiders. But I’m happy to kinda get this post done, I’ll probably make another down the road that more clearly talks about it but for now I am very happy to have another long post done, and this is a topic that I like thinking about (Mainly I just like thinking about Camp Jupiter and Romans, big shocker I know guys) but I think that’ll be it for the super duper long posts today.
