My " 'Jon's characters are related' tree" corrected

So....upon first posting it, I've realized that I've forgotten Roman and Wiggly. But that's not all, I can do better. Yesterday, I've realized that I also forgot Daniel/Stopwatch... So, here is a corrected version of the family tree. Though, I still deliberately did not include Wiggly and cie. for my sanity's sake. I could have added the Emma and her family to the tree, but since her and Paul don't have children together, let alone children played by Jon, I chose otherwise.

So... here is some explanation on how I connected the Murray and Monroe families the the Matthews one :

Again, Roman doesn't share the same surname. And Roman being the leader of Nibbly's cult, I wouldn't be surprised (and HC) that he is much older than he looks like. Probably around Sheila's age actually... So, it's through his sister that he is connected to Paul ! But again, the ages wouldn't have fitted that well if he was his great-uncle. So, I went down a generation below. Roman's niece is actually the Matthews' matriarch, Paul's grandmother.

Which makes Linda Paul's second (degree) cousin, despite them being around the same age. I partially explain that by the fact that, at least in my HC, her mother was something around 30 years younger than Roman (yeah, yikes) .

In the same order of ideas, her children are Paul's father's cousins, his first cousins then, despite them being younger than most of Richie's generation. In fact, I don't think Trent is much older than little Jerri... Talking about them, I know Gerald isn't the biological father of at least half of Linda's children. But because we don't know who their fathers actually are and that Gerald's name most probably is on the birth certificate, I am going to put them as his children. Not that it changes anything for the sake of relating each of Jon's characters.

Stopwatch is Gary's son. No real reason if why not ?

Also, here's some HCs about the dynamics in the family !

The twins know for Daniel's power, but not for the fighting ring. Richie's been so overexcited to learn that, that Daniel feared he would spill the beans. Thankfully, he didn't. Under oath not to. All the family think Daniel has martial art classes, only his father knows the truth about the fights.

Daniel calls Paul and his siblings uncle and aunt. Jerry did try to break him out of the habit, he's their first cousin not their nephew. But it just made it worst. Now, Jerry is suspecting Gary to bribe his son to purposefully call him that just to piss him off.

Girl Jeri knows that Jerry has nephews and a first cousin. But not at first ! When she saw them for the first time, walking pass them on the street, she legit stopped in her track and searched for a solid minute why they looked so similar to Jerry. He had to clarify why later.

All the men are made from the same mold in the family ! No seriously. If Little Jerri had actually been raised by his parents, instead of being left in the woods as a baby, he'd look like his father's exact copy.

When Paul brought Emma to a family reunion for the first time, she did make a joke/comment on the fact they all look like clones. Which was particularly hilarious in the "Forever an always" timeline...

Linda has no idea that she is related to the Matthews.

The father of the other two Monroe boys appears in NMT2 ep2 and like

If it's Ted, that's really in character for him.

If it's Solomon, that's really in character for Linda because he's the goddamn mayor. She would.

But like. If it's one of the Metzgers.

It makes no sense for Linda's character, but the Metzgers are (implied to be) Hatchetmen. We know that they murdered every single member of the Church of the Starry Children at some point in the very late 70s/early 80s, which is also how Sherman's father died. There is something going on between the Church and the Hatchetmen (no idea what, though), and two Monroe boys having a Hatchetman father while their grandfather is an important member of the Church could be very interesting

"River!" Linda calls, holding her sun hat in place. "Don't go into the water!"

Whining, River turns to look at his mom as his three brothers go rushing off, jumping into the pool. "Why not?"

"Because I don't trust your brothers not to drown you when I'm not looking," Linda says as Gerald sets up an umbrella for her to lie under.

"They're kids, Linda, they play around," Gerald says as he opens the umbrella. "They wouldn't drown him. Not on purpose, anyway."

With a pout, River drops into the chair next to Linda, watching his older brothers splash around.

They fucking are, guys. The River Trent and the River Seaton are both in England. The River Jordan is in the Middle East. They’re all fucking rivers.

Monroe boys headcanons, with some canon facts to have all my thoughts about them in one place:

Trent: born in 2008; green-eyed and has Gerald’s curly hair; Linda’s least favourite; is learning her arrogance, intimidating charisma, boldness, ruthlessness, cynicism, ambition and desperate need for validation, which is exactly why she doesn’t like him, their relationship similar to her and Roman’s relationship when she was younger; easily bored; the worst-behaved at home; popular at school through fear and force of personality; resents all his brothers for having more of their mother’s favour than him, River most of all, whose ‘weakness’ he despises because it reminds him of the parts of himself he’s determined to extinguish; acts like an angel in front of and sucks up to adults besides his parents, partly out of pragmatism, partly out of hunger for approval that he refuses to seek from his ‘inferior’ fellow kids; skilled at tennis, badminton and archery: favourite colour is red

Seaton: born in 2009; not Gerald’s; brown-eyed; follows Trent’s lead and emulates him, having always been in his shadow; his submissiveness in that context belies a more patient, scheming, manipulative, vindictive cruel streak of his own that he saves for personal vendettas and small-scale harassment used as an outlet for his anger and dissatisfaction, happy to leave the bigger picture dominance to Trent and turn being underestimated in comparison into an advantage; the best at effective verbal abuse; prides himself on his social and strategic cleverness and envies Jordan’s academic and intellectual intelligence; secretly ashamed that he doesn’t do quite as well in his classes and feels the need to cheat to try to get perfect grades and make his parents proud; loves animals, especially horses, foxes and dogs, does horse riding and really wants a pet dog (Roman keeps trying to get him into pigs, to no avail); favourite colour is purple

Jordan: born in 2011; not Gerald’s; blue-eyed; the closest to Gerald, often found talking to him about plastic surgery; interested in science, mathematics, fashion and cosmetics; very intelligent and an excellent student, hence Linda’s second favourite; quiet, withdrawn and reflective, has learned to internalize his feelings to not inconvenience his parents and lose their love; the second most ambitious after Trent, but channels it into academic pursuits; joins his older brothers in bullying River only because they’ll turn on him otherwise for his sensitive and nerdy sides, and sometimes do anyway when River isn’t around; however, lacks internal malice (‘strength’ in his family) and is self-aware of this supposed deficit, so keeps himself useful to Trent and Seaton by giving them backup and ideas to be powerful and respected and torment people that he, at least independently, would never have the heart to act on; favourite colour is blue

River: born in 2014; brown-eyed; Linda’s favourite; kind and open thanks to his guileless innocence and being the happiest; the only one with genuine friends; though also spoiled and can be unthinkingly, accidentally insensitive to others’ feelings; creative and imaginative; loves cartoons, musicals and art, his drawings actually talented for his age and all over the Monroes’ fridge; favourite colour is green

In conclusion, they all need therapy and a healthy home environment. A theme with the older three, the eldest two most of all, is that they’ve been led to believe that love is fundamentally conditional. So River being showered in it when he ‘hasn’t done anything’ feels infuriatingly unjust and hypocritical of their parents. Somebody direct Duke Keane to the Monroes. Linda and Gerald may love each other, but they clearly aren’t good parents. I hope in one of the infinite timelines this family has a serious intervention and the boys get to grow up with good role models. They’re kids, guys, they deserve the chance to change.

And yes, Seaton is in Tim’s class (they hate each other).

I feel like the reason Cassandra, Varian, and Lance are viewed as the characters immediately second to Rapunzel and Eugene could be because they are all new characters introduced for the series who have Broadway voice actors. Even if Lance didn't really get a lot of big songs the way Varian and Cass did, he still had the buddy duet and that one kinda underrated song in S3.

Eden Espinosa, James Monroe Iglehart, and Jeremy Jordan were given top billing after Mandy and Zac in all announcements past S1:

Those three are considered the rest of the main cast because they literally are.

Tears well up in River's eyes as they stop at the top of the wheel. "Stop it or I'm telling Mom when we get back down!"
