  Rumiko had done a Great Work with Inuyasha,now in this particularly it’s Visible kikyo’s Disappointment,Bitterness about the “betrayal” by Inuyasha’s hands.She didn’t know it was all by the Envious Naraku(former Onigumo)who planned how to tear them part,and make them unhappy. I love Inuyasha so much I really do but Rumiko just does NOT give out basic info for characters if she doesn’t find it relevant. No one’s parents has a proper actual name here.

“What about Inuyasha’s-“ Inu no Taisho is a title.

“What about Inukimi-“ that’s fanon baby. She’s listed as “Sesshomaru’s Mother” in her wiki.

Naraku doesn’t even get a proper backstory. Well, technically Naraku does but Onigumo??? He’s just a bandit who was horribly burned and was treated by Kikyo. But HOW did he GET THERE.

He doesn’t even have a proper age! His age range is teens to mid twenties! “Wasn’t he 23?” No!!! That’s how old Kagewaki was before Naraku killed him and stole his face!!!

Like WHAT!!! The origins of the main villain is practically nonexistent! And it’s not like Onigumo was never relevant to the plot. Naraku tries so hard to get rid of his human heart like that’s a pretty major plot point. Naraku will NEVER get rid of who he used to be entirely but we don’t know who he used to be! A bandit, sure, but what else?

Who the hell was Onigumo.

A part of me thinks it was wasted potential that Naraku wasn’t as obsessed with Kagome as he was with Kikyo, since Kagome was her reincarnation, had more of her/their soul, annnd because of the parallels of Kagome versus Naraku plus the original shikon priestess versus all those demons

But also I think it’s hilarious that Onigumo/Naraku was like “no. dead corpse that’s not even actually technically her corpse only.” while other people were struggling with comparing Kagome to Kikyo

Also makes it even funnier to me is that Kagome kind of doesn’t have her own personal beef with Naraku, she wants to take him down to put the jewel back together because she feels responsible for it, she wants to take him down because it’s the right thing to do, and she wants to take him down because of how he’s hurt her friends, but I don’t think she even takes him killing her past life personally (definitely thinks it was messed up of him to do, but didn’t take it personally)

Just. Despite the Midoriko/Kagome versus tons of demons/Naraku parallels especially at the end, they’re very,,,, I don’t know how to put this but it’s almost like if Kagome hadn’t accidentally shattered the jewel or tried keeping it with herself, when she went back in time they could’ve easily ended up never interacting/ignoring each other, if that makes sense?

Not enemies cause they’re driven to take each other down but more like annoyed coworkers stuck in this constant cycle together

it's a wonderful series! one of my earlier fav series alongside digimon, pokeani, and HxH.

beautiful love story, OST, and setting.

some things about this blog:

i love NarKik, how awesome is it that the man who wishes to kill her, and actually have killed her, held also the dearest despicable desire to protect/keep-her-alive her? (or more like his desire has protected her...)

not into inukag vs inukik topic ( i ship both )

reincarnation concept is very close to me, as physical body is just a facade . so to me inukag is a successful representation of the love inukik once had, a prove that bond between two longing souls is eternal .

there was also no competition between kikyo and kagome. the choice was very obvious.

kikyo chose to travel alone, she didn't want inuyasha's love anymore, she wanted revenge on him(when she didn't know it was naraku all along) . kikyo knew she died and she count her days on earth only for revenge (stopping naraku). remember how she killed a monk once for interfering her plan and tried to kill inuyasha? well that ended once she knew it was naraku all along.

kikyo's tale is not of love but revenge.

and inuyasha actively chose to travel with Kagome.

AU where Kagome is Kikyo's sister in the feudal era and they're both priestesses (though Kagome is not as trained or high in ranking as Kikyo).

Inuyasha and Kikyo still meet and they develop a friendship and maybe a budding relationship (Kikyo does develop feelings for him). But since Inuyasha has been following Kikyo to get a chance at stealing the Shikon Jewel, he then meets Kagome.

Of course they bicker and Inuyasha notes she's nothing like Kikyo, but at the same time they still develop a bond...maybe one much stronger than that between Inuyasha and Kikyo. Kagome's differences from Kikyo actually endear Inuyasha. She's emotional, open, and accepting and understanding. She loves Inuyasha as himself, all parts of him, human and demon and all. Inuyasha feels at peace, even joyful, with Kagome, and he is overwhelmed by the affection and protectiveness he feels so strongly and quickly for her. They trust strongly, they care deeply, and they love each other greatly.

Kikyo notices everything. Maybe it's for the best, she admits. But inside...it's another story. One part of her, the protective sister and priestess part, is reluctant towards her dear sister getting involved with a half-demon. The other part, one that is more personal and selfish, is jealous of her sister (since Kikyo herself is in love with Inuyasha too) and hurt by Inuyasha and Kagome's flourishing romance. It's another reminder of what she cannot have, of the life she's destined for. The final nail in the coffin. Kikyo of course tries to suppress these feelings and carry on, but as she ignores them they fester. Her turmoil has weakened her powers and ultimately make her a target.

During all this, she's been caring for the wounded bandit Onigumo, who desperately desires her. When demons offer to give him a new body, he readily accepts. Naraku is born and bent on getting rid of Kikyo and taking the Shikon Jewel. Even though Kikyo has weakened, she's still too strong for him. But he knows what's hindering her: her fondness for the half demon Inuyasha, her conflicting emotions over Kagome and Inuyasha, and her secret resentment and frustration over her life. It's ample for him to take advantage of, to make corrupting the jewel and taking the powerful miko down. And, of course, there's the love between the half demon and the second place priestess. All in all, Naraku is licking his chops over what he could do with the situation already bestowed upon him...

Seeing your posts on spiders, I’m curious about something. We see Onigumo’s face in manga when Naraku takes it back so Kikyo can’t purify him completely and it’s nigh identical to Hitomi’s. We could chalk this up to artist style, but I always wondered if Hitomi was Onigumo’s like grandnephew or something via a sister who married a lord because she was pretty (it was a thing that happened sometimes) and had kids who were one of Hitomi’s parents and that’s why Naraku specifically keeps that face, because it’s so similar to Onigumo’s old one. I’m curious to your thoughts on that?

I thought the closest we ever got to a face reveal was when Muso stole one off a pretty boi monk? Any version of Onigumo I know is flashbacks of him either being already burned and covered in bandages, or actively being a bandit but not showing us his face because ooooh~ mystery.

My messed up Inuyasha au that’s only funny to me: the well takes Kagome back to before Kikyo meets Inuyasha and she’s like “fuck yeah, I can just fix everything before it even happens!! I’ll miss my friends but at least I can help them” so she tries her best to stop everything, but the first problem is Onigumo

At this point, Kikyo and Kaede have gladly welcomed Kagome into their household, but Kikyo’s not listening to anyone about abandoning Onigumo, so Kagome’s like “okay well then I’ll just take care of him instead, it’ll give me a chance to practice healing” cause she’s just trying to avoid Onigumo becoming obsessed with Kikyo. It works. Because he becomes obsessed with Kagome instead. (Kagome unfortunately does not notice)

Then Inuyasha shows up, and Kagome’s happy that he’ll have a chance to actually be happy with Kikyo, but she actually had developed a bit of a crush on Inuyasha before falling into this new time, she doesn’t want to let Kaede or Kikyo know (since how tf would she even explain to them how she knew Inuyasha to begin with since he doesn’t know her?) so she kinda vents at Onigumo, technically she was venting to herself but it was while helping Onigumo. That was big mistake two.

This all leads to Onigumo still becoming Naraku, and then his attacks on Inuyasha and Kikyo to get the jewel, except he also attacks Kagome, hoping to get her to hate Inuyasha or something, Kagome who’s now injured makes her way to the well, and miraculously it’s working again

So same stuff still ends up happening, Inuyasha and Kikyo betrayed, Inuyasha pinned to the tree, Kikyo dying and trying to take the jewel with her, etc etc

Except, before her death, Kikyo and Kaede now think that Inuyasha also randomly attacked Kagome and killed her and did god knows what with her body since they can’t find her

Now, Kagome’s back into the original past where she first met Inuyasha, but it’s now the past breaking off from what she changed, Kaede, not understanding how Kagome is back, is happy she’s back and keeps trying to keep Inuyasha away from her, when Kikyo is brought back to life, she remembers “Inuyasha” attacking Kagome, who she’s come to think of as a sister, and keeps trying to get him away from her too, and Naraku is now obsessed with Kagome

In the end, she has fixed nothing from that side trip and has actually accidentally created new problems for herself
