Some Explanations of My au from my incorrect quotes post bc I started writing and it got out of hand but I need those bunnies out of my head and if stuff is repeated but just reworded then it's because I've been writing this on different days whilst working on different stuff at the same time. As office would have said, Parkour!

If anything else in the future needs to be explained about my aus I will link this post.

Married Au: Cali and Gov married each other around 1800's because some congressmen were bothering Gov about him being single (with goal of trapping him with one of their daughters so their family could profit) and Gov was getting tired of it. One day where he was close to murdering someone, he spotted another person being bothered about the same thing, sure maybe not on the scale that he was but if he played his cards right it could work out....

Long story short, Gov married that person, "Poppy 'Goldie' McNugget" (strange name but he couldn't exactly complain) by having one of the visiting priests marry them with others as their witnessess. Poppy provided the rings and after few weeks of awkward small talks and getting to know each other a bit better, they parted ways never to see each other again.... until nearly 100 years later when he had to take over a meeting America couldn't attend to and came face to face with Poppy or as he was now known California.

After several rounds of alcohol and long debates, that might as well be considered screaming matches by some states who were unfortunate enough to walk by Gov Office, they came to agreement that every ten or so years they would spend time together as a couple. Mostly to keep up the marriage act and just in case they need to bullshit something on the fly.

Gov was just happy that he wouldn't have to tell Pennsylvania or Virgina about the fact that he is married and didn't invite them. Or his brother.

*as a kind of edit, it's not that gov and Cali haven't seen each other before that but it was rare and only for few apperences. Why the congressmen didn't out gov? Gov is scary mothefucker who then was growing stronger day by day, the choice between death and life was easier to make even if they weren't happy about it.

Which speaking off, in this au I wanted to have countries to exist as well sooooo here is small breakdown of Gov "fam":

Pennsylvania and Virgina as "parents" not exactly but those two helped him out the most when he first came around so they have this relationship of sorts. Mostly it consists of Pennsylvania riling Gov up and Virginia trying to calm them and bring peace but I do imagine that the two are somewhat protective of gov and will beat his ass second they learn he didn't invite them to a wedding.

America as in personification of the country (separate from the states) being older brother of sorts to Gov, think Hetalia or CH hybrid. No I don't have design for his in mind apart from Big boi full of himself who is protective over states but in asshole roundabout way.

Cali on the other hand was human turned into state. His general backstory for this au is that he was human born in Spain meant to marry someone he didn't want as he had fallen in love with someone his family didn't approve off. To rebel they married in secrets torched down the whole town as they ran away on a horseback, got to America and into Oregon trail (which they sometimes left to explore the country before returning) and settled into the new land that promised lots of gold. Few years passed as they settled, drama happened somewhat and Poppy/Cali end up being detained for murder of their husband and hanged. Few days later he crawls out of the grab using skeleton pieces of his husband he had been buried with (hello COD community can u see where I got it from) and it derails into like 1800s where Cali who was still going by Poppy married gov randomly cause might as well get those sweet tax evasion in early and yes the rings he used where his and his late then husband (who is reincarnated soul so he keeps his memories when he dies and reborn, in modern times he had set up bakery in Washington and is flirting with a politician that frequents his bakery.)

Gov and Cali worked out they married each other in 1923 but it was like that umbrella academy meme :

They both were like wait a fucking minute why aren't you dead and then had the whole office screaming match.

I mentioned it earlier but every 10 years they pick some dates where they allow themselves to be like married couple. It started out with them knowing each other better the first few times and it derail into different activities raging from dinner dates to cute murder dates.

They don't try to hide it too much but no one apart from Utah really picked up on it's Why Utah? I thought it be funny. That's it that's the reason.

Both encourage each other to chase after their crushes (Gov has crush on Florida Louisiana and DC but will deny it harder then he denies having emotions and Cali is crushing on NY and Texas (maybe Oklahoma but that's a crackship so ignore that for now Lmao) but will deny it whilst being a simp to gov face) and honestly end goal is some weird poly couple cause I adore poly couples and think there is big potential for fun dynamic. Maybe I will get into it later.

General rules for most of my aus that I will follow:

Kind of height chart mostly to explain how I see it. So, Countries are bigger then states/regions even the smallest country is taller by an inch or two, like even Alaska whilst the tallest state would be smaller then a country, which yes it means that countries are borderline giants but they can adjust their height to become slightly more human. They have special dimension of sorts to hold their own meeting but if they have to meet up with their human politicians or just humans in general they get to be more 'human' as to not freak anyone out.

Then you have states and regions of a country. Similar rules apply but obviously each country is just slightly different. They are second tallest to reflect their status as a region but obviously their height flu crusted bases on their territory. Nothing much to add here but cities are smaller then states.

With "organisations" such like well Gov, FBI, CDC and so on welllbdbd depends? I imagine Gov as being seoerete from DC and IDC (will explain soon) but general rule of thumbs is that manifestation of government is taller then the country state/region or malleable to what they want in the moment. FBI and CDC are a bit more human like cause they work with humans most often but they sometimes make people feel uncanny bc it's clear they just aren't fully human. Hard to explain but yeah.

DC And IDC! Those two were humans turned immortal cause I think it be funny. They are twins but gained immortality in slightly different ways. IDC was turned immortal bc FBI and CIA took liking to her and the fact that they got some of that hot international gossip that America wouldn't share with them and I imagine as a 'human' she was from either of their agencies or at least worked together with them long enough they decided that yeah she can stay longer. Not sure if that makes any sense.

DC on the other hand was a fed that was supposed to get the states to work together during the meetings in the pandemic which worked. He mostly gained immortality bc either Florida convinced Louisiana to fuck around and find out or Gov saw states devastated that they favourite fed isn't there anymore so he decided to grant DC the immortality to keep states happy but he joined more meetings and ran some of them as well as DC recovered from Jan 6th.

So DC and Gov are separate with Gov having worked mostly near president and doing paperwork from the meetings DC ran but he has been getting involved a bit more with states recently with DC running smaller meetings or hanging out with IDC.

Unless it's specified, most of family relations from Marriage au apply, as in Gov + Ame = kind of brothers, IDC and DC human twins turned immortal through two different means

Poppy explained:

Essentially I took concept of Surfer Cali being SoCal and normal Cali being NoCal and ran with it by adding Hollywood as a Poppy. And mostly bc I hc Cali as FtM but add more wacky magic shit? Main shit to know is that Poppy = Cali but before officially a state

My favourite stuff from those interactions is Cali teasing Gov about crocodile wrangling out of nowhere with Gov talking about hot and cold meats out of nowhere in turn. Utah was ready to book an exorcism for the two but after being witness to the two bullshiterry he would rather book a cupid or therapist for them.

I took the tie from my wrist and twisted his hair into a bun leaving some strands loose to fall in his face all sexy and disheveled. "Thank you baby." He kissed my lips one more time, standing up abruptly grabbing his guitar and walking across the room to rest it on a stand.

"Seriously... you're really gonna leave me high and dry like that?" I said as he ran his fingers over my cassette tapes, landing on one I couldn't quite make out, before closing it in the stereo and pressing play.

"Relax babe, didn't want to traumatize my baby that's all... besides I forgot, I brought you a gift."

"Let me guess...." I said giving him knowing eyes, sitting up myself.

"Packed nice and tight just for you," he said putting an expertly rolled blunt between his lips, trying to spark it with a zippo.

"I thought it was for me?" I said shoving his side lightly. He took the blunt between his fingers and posed sarcastically,

"Let me be romantic." he wiggled his eyebrows and put it back between his pillowy lips, he lit it on the next inhale. Taking a long drag forcing a shiver down my spine. He took it back between his fingers and gently lifted my chin to meet his lips, he slowly breathed out as I breathed in, plumes of smoke billowing out from between our lips. He bit my bottom lip and pulled back, releasing it as he stood back up. I flopped down dramatically on the mattress, throwing my arms above my head. He took another hit and leaned down to do it again. I've never been confident with french kissing, but Eddie somehow made it easy... like a well-practiced dance. He held my left cheek in one hand and laid the hand with the lit blunt over the edge of the bed. It was soft and slow and warm... so warm...that's when I opened my eyes, a ray of sunlight cast itself over our faces, when he pulled back I could see the honey accents and gold flakes in his eyes... he must have been seeing something similar,

"You're so fucking beautiful."

"You too." He reached above me and snuffed out the blunt on the brick outside my window, resting it on the windowsill.

"How you feeling?" He said smoothing my hair back. I nudged my nose against his,

"Like I need you."

"Good because I'm gonna give you me." he kisses my forehead, "Then I'll give you the world," he pecks both my cheeks, "and every fucking star in the sky." he kisses the tip of my nose, before taking my lips in his again, feverishly. He licked into my mouth and kissed across my jaw and down my neck. He snaked his hand down my torso dipping his pointer and middle finger between my legs. He rubbed softly over my panties, smiling triumphantly at the prominent wet patch he found there. I curled my head into his shoulder whimpering softly, it's been a while since we've been alone together, He halted his movements just letting his fingers rest there as he nudged the side of my face with his, "sensitive?"

Daenerys and Nikita Gil quote - It took me sooooo long to map out which scenes I was going to use to match this quote perfectly. The effort that went into it paid off because it's my most popular edit I've ever made. I also think it's a genuinely great character set which captures the essence of Dany.

Villadero being dorks - I love this set because it perfectly captures what Jane and Michael are. Whenever I see this set it puts a smile on my face.

Stelena hugs - Honestly my love for this set is more my love for Stelena than anything else. I just love their hugs and Nina's quote about how Elena melts into his arms fits perfectly with their hugs.

Lost + happiness - I don't like this set visually but love what it represents. There's not much happiness on Lost so being able to show all of those moments in one gifsets makes my heart happy 🥰

Since I don't make edits anymore, it been nice to look back on them 😊

I love hearing about what little bits connect together that I never realised and what the writer thinks about when writing :))

Ahhhhhhhhh a little behind the scenes action, eh? Yes! Okay, let's go!

First off, I just wanna say, I love chatting with y'all about the BS:U it gives me the best worst ideas and I love to know y'all's reactions and what y'all liked cuz then I can write more of it 😉

Second, I'm sorry for taking so long to answer this, I was really excited when I got it and I had to choose between answering or writing TS&TS and then I realized that I've been working on this project for so long, I can't remember all my little easter eggs soooooo....

There are a few things I'm still waiting for one of y'all to pick up on (or at least tell me you caught), so I'm not gonna tell you which chapter everything is in.

Also this is in no particular order:

The most recent was a very brief call to to Thor: Ragnarok in Ch67, Jack calls Wraith movements 'freaky circles' which is a slight ref to Korg in Ragnarok.

Wraith was also kinda an accident...tho, don't tell him that, he'll get mad. I'd been going back and forth on him for a long time before he showed up the first time and then I decided to bring him into the fold.

Originally I was going to have one of two things happen:

1: They all died in the ambush and stayed dead 2: Or, they all faked their death and came back to haunt Ghost in the present as a Hydra!Team and there would be a massive fight between Cap's Quintet (see what i did there) and the Hydra!Alpha team.

Aftermath was supposed to be destroyed with Weston but I fell in love with Boone and Duke so I decided they'd help it carry on

The original Alpha 2 looked completely different than the one we have now

When I was creating the Senator, I kept his name secret because I was flipping back and forth between Turner being the Senator and Commander Weston being the Senator. The ultimate decision-maker was that first flashback in BS:A and when I decided that Turner was married. I didn't want to tear apart another family 😬

On that note, Nea and Nia (& Babar) are probably my fave characters right now

There was a reference to Nomad, one of Steve Roger's comic book monikers

It's not secret that Boone Cavanaugh and her family love black and white movies or that I based Boone's looks slightly off of Lauren Bacall. That being said, Boone quotes the movie Casablanca twice in BS:A

The museum scene in Prague was based off of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Quantum of Solace

Olympus was originally supposed to be located further north but I wanted it to be located in the same state that Turner was from and he's from New Orleans sooooo.....oops

The van scene in 7T7K was based off of a scene from Jack Reacher

All of The Red Room chapter titles are the names of James Bond films and their opening quotes are quotes from their respective movies

The Red Room is also my favorite work, I'm really proud of how it came out and how quickly I was able to get it out. I'm just super proud of it.

I was originally going to have Novak have a bigger role in The Red Room but ultimately decided to keep it closer to Black Widow and more about Natasha.

In S1 of The Soldier & The Spy when Dimitri says he 'knew a spy once' that was supposed to be just a little easter egg but spun out of control when I wrote TRR

I also feel really bad about killing off Dimitri

Rook was based off of Rami Malek's portrayal as Lyutsifer Safin in No Time to Die.

We were supposed to only get like 5 flashback chapters but I got too attached to Alpha 1

I am v proud of my 'branding'. My headers/gifs are my fave thing to do before posting a chapter

Delphine was based off of Sofia Boutella's protrayal of Delphine Laselle in my comfort movie, Atomic Blonde. Manette was based off of Monica Bellucci in Spectre

I was gonna cap TS&TS at one season but now I'll be doing three

I was going to have an Odin cameo in TRR because Dimitri was at the same home he was in butttt....I forgot about him and no one misses him anyway. But, just for those that wanna know, Dimitri didn't like Odin. He may have even chucked a paintbrush at him once or twice...maybe like five times

Sooooo I just saw your ask game and I am so glad that it is open for me 😭😭 I am so sad that I missed it yesterday...

So, uh, I will choose, Haikyuu fandom (sorry bnha, maybe next year)

And for how I want my valentine to be... I want it to be sweet, cute, full of love and just the two of us like taking long walks together.

As for your valentine, do I really have to say it? It's definitely Kuroo, like definitely. You both are going to have such a wonderful valentine. He is gonna wake you up with kisses and he even made cupcakes for you (his baking skills are not that good but he tried and we all appreciate the thought and the amount of love behind it)

You got this cute lock and key matching jewelry for him and you, one the key and the other has the lock... The best part is, it works! The key opens the lock and there are your initials engraved in them. He got a promise ring for you, it's beautiful... Thin and delicate with a little moon on it and inside there is a small quote 'You are my moon' engraved.

You both then go to a carnival and have a lot of fun together, he tries to win you a teddy bear and does win it but you win one for him too. Go to the photo booth and take LOTS OF photos together, both of you keep two photos each with yourselves as a memoir. You both made funny faces in the first shot or so you thought, he was admiring you the whole time, and then a dramatic face, then the swag face lmao, and then he caught you by surprise by kissing your cheek in the last one.

The day was WAAYYY better than what you had imagined and when you both got home, you just cuddled and put a rom-com to watch and make fun of. Not that you both watched as you were busy cuddling and making out, he was making silly jokes while you were just laughing at how stupid they were.

You both ended up falling asleep while talking, a perfect wnding for a perfect day.

why is everything in this so perfect 😭💕 the moon reference is just- I've always been finding for my sunshine 🥺 and he is my sunshine (lol) hahahahah I bet we both got competitive during the the games because we want to be the one to get the best prize for one another

Ramblings ☆

In my last post, I talked about getting my first tattoo! In this post, I want to talk about miscellaneous stuff lol.

I'll start with my day yesterday! Yesterday, I went out with my little sister so we could have a long overdue photoshoot. I've been doing photoshoots with her since she was 14 or so (she's 20 now) and it's fun to look back at how much things have changed!

I've always considered myself an editor rather than any kind of photographer, as you can probably tell from my crap composition throughout the years LOL.

The camera we usually use was being stupid today and we ended up using her phone instead 😂 We're looking into buying a FujiFilm camera in the near future, so hopefully the quality of the photos will be better in photoshoots to come 💖

Along with that, I watched a movie with a very good friend of mine last night ❤ She and I have been having movie nights every Friday for about six weeks now 😱💕

The first week, we watched a spy parody movie with Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger?! The second week, we watched Chicago (as per my request ofc 😂) and the following weeks after, we've watched the original Spiderman movies!

Last night, we watched Into the Spiderverse 👀💓 (❗Spoilers ahead❗)

When I tell you I cried LOL. Tears of sadness, tears of joy, so many tears all over!!! As soon as Uncle Aaron died, I started crying and I was a mess until the end nxdmsxnskxn The initial death was heartbreaking enough (Miles having to fight his biggest hero was awful to begin with), but then having to see Miles' dad react soon after was just the worst 😭😭😭💔💔💔

The development of Miles' relationship with his dad was sooooo sweet, I was wiping tears everytime they interacted after that point basically LOL It was so nice to see his dad's growth and support of his son!! Esp with him making Miles say "I love you" back in the beginning via humiliation vs him saying Miles didn't have to say it back after Uncle Aaron died was so touching ugh.

I love Miles so much, I just want him to be safe and happy and loved 😭❤ The whole time I was like, "My son!! My baby!! Leave him alone!! You can do it!!!" 😂💕

His relationship with the 2nd Peter Parker was sooo cute, too!! There is no better dynamic than grumpy adult x bubbly kid, it's adorable every single time 😩💘 In my dream timeline, Uncle Aaron does not die from his gunshot wound, and the 2nd Peter gets to stay in Miles' world and act as a second uncle and who knows maybe the two uncles get married LOL

Tbh, most of these movies are ones I would never consider watching, but watching anything with my friend is super fun 💕 It's been the one thing I've been looking forward to most each week 💓

As you may or may not know, I have pretty severe agoraphobia; I've had to leave the house quite a bit since October, which has been super stressful, so having our movie night has been a real anchor for me and I'm so grateful for that 😢💕

Having someone you can be comfortable around to wind down each week is an absolute blessing 😭

Lastly (before this post gets too much longer lmao), I wanted to talk a bit about Final Fantasy IX! In my last post, I mentioned I already had a plan for the next tattoo I want to get; here's what I have so far 👀💓

The concept and quote come from this scene where Vivi (the little guy on the left) is taking to an apparition of his dead grandpa Quan (the big guy on the right):

I always cry so much at this part 😭 I love so many of the messages in FFIX, but I especially find the concept of people continuing to "exist" through our remembering of them to be very sweet, so it hits home everytime 😭😭😭 (This is also why Coco is my fave Disney movie LOL)

For the set up, I was inspired by the iconic umbrella scene in Totoro!

I decided on flowers for umbrellas bc I love flower umbrellas as a concept in general LOL. Daffodils are my fave flowers, so I wanted to use one for sure (ending up as Quan's umbrella ofc) and daisies look cute with daffodils imo, so I used that for Vivi's umbrella ❤

I want Vivi and his grandpa to be on the inside of my forearm, while the bus sign will be on top of my forearm and will say "Last Stop". I'm planning to change the straight line into some sort of grass and incorporate more flowers somehow 🤔

I've been debating whether or not to fill in Vivi's gloves black like his boots?? I feel like when I do, it looks weird somehow 🤔🤔🤔 But maybe it'll look better after I finish Quan's design!!

I'll do another update when the design is finished probably 😊💕

Top 5 least favorite zoophobia character designs

Welp, got the positive list out of the way. Now yet me give you the list inevitably more people will like because everyone apparently likes it when I'm negative. Go figure. Vivziepop has a whole arsenal of character designs, and here are some of my least favourites. Same ground rules for my other list apply here. And first, some dishonorable mentions.

DM 1: Jack and Damian

First things first, I don't hate the designs of the main cast. Yeah, they're simple compared to other designs in zoophobia, but, as I've said before, I like Vivz's more simple designs. But out of all the main cast, I disliked these designs the most for one reason. At least everyone else looked like their respective animal. Spam looks like a fox, Vanex looks like a cat, Kayla looks like a kangaroo, and Zill, despite the crazy colour scheme, looks like an unidentifiable creature. These guys? Damian is supposed to be this demonic jackal, but, if you look up jackal in Google Images, you'll notice that he doesn't really look like one. He looks more like some kind of wolf or fox. I don't mind the ears (hell, the horn-like, long ass ears could be his signature look ), or the eyes (he IS a demon ) but, fun fact, jackals have black ears, a black tail, and a distinct black patch of fur on their backs. Some liberties can be taken with colours, I suppose (I mean, we have a freaking purple cat in our midst, you think I'm drawing the line at the canines? ), but perhaps parts of his fur could be made darker in order to get him to resemble a jackal. Jack is a wolf/jackal hybrid, yet he looks more like a domestic dog or a rabbit. It's mainly his ears that cause the problems. Maybe give him more wolfish ears. Seriously vivz, what wolf or jackal looks like that?

DM 2 : Most of the Party Dawgs

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! MY EYES! MY EYES! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

*cough * Anyways, now that I've finished my hyperbolic reaction to the party dawgs, let me single some out. Koko, Mint, and Raven. Koko (aka the purple one with purple clothes) literally looks like a clone of Mint (the green one). The only differences between the two are colours, hair being parted on opposite sides, and slight clothing difference. And let's be honest, Raven literally looks like another Jayjay. But hey, at least their colours don't make my eyes bleed.

Now onto the list proper.

5. Tom

Look, to anyone on this site who wants to know what I think of Tom, he's just meh. There's nothing really that special about him. Oh, you're a lonely demon? It's not like we have someone in the main cast like that already. Oh, you can be something of a charmer and attract a lot of ladies? Hi Zill! And Tom's design isn't helping his case. He looks like a recoloured Bozzwick or a genderbent Ink. There's nothing really creepy or strange about his appearance. You could argue that his eyes are strange, but plenty of other characters have strange eyes, and Tom's eyes aren't even the strangest. He doesn't look demon-y. He looks like another edgy teen. And yeah, I might be a hypocrite here because I love Damian's male human design, but in his case it's kind of funny. I mean, it's just amusing to me that someone like Dame (who is also the anti christ ) looks like a hot topic addict. It's just so weirdly fitting it's hilarious. Same can't really be said for Tom though. ....

4. Styx, Tentadora, and Jillian.

Three way tie! Whooo! Okay, but in all seriousness, I put these guys here because they all suffer the same problems. They need some adjustments to their designs and a change in colour pallets. Go back to ch 3 of zoophobia, and look at how much these guys seem out of place in hell. These three characters become a major distraction as your eye is immediately drawn to them instead of whatever more important scene is going on. Give them a colour pallet that helps them blend in a little more. Jillian, I feel, since the poorer parts of Hell are have a more Western feel, should have a more Western influence since that's where she came from. Maybe give her boots or a bandana. around her neck. Styx needs the most change since he looks like a recoloured Damian. Take the ears and tail away. Perhaps give him a more Victorian influence while keeping Tenta's western influence to represent their clashing personalities. Maybe give Tenta a hat or apron to make her look more like a member of Hell's staff.

3. Elijah

Look, I know a lot of people love his design, but Eli's design bugs me on a couple levels. Why? Well, look at some of the other snake characters that take on a bi-pedal stance, such as Gustav, Quinton, the Max brothers, and Castello. You might notice something. ...slightly different autonomy wise. Look, I appreciate that Vivz is making some of her characters look vastly different than others, but in this circumstance. ...why? Why does Eli get to have a more snakey influence? Shouldn't he resemble Gustav since their both snakes? Why does Eli get to have a snake head, but none of the other snakes do? I know, Dollcreep came up with Eli's original design, but Dollcreep came up with Gustav's original design too. There, we had the same problem with heads we do here, so yeah, this reflects on Dollcreep as well for inconsistency. Besides, Vivz could've fixed this problem while redesigning Elijah. As for the colour pallet, while yes, pink and white are overused in Vivz's characters, I'd argue it makes sense here with Eli being albino. However, I'd make the colours on his face and in his hair lighter. Albinos can't really keep pigments in their skin and hair, so it'd be impossible for Eli to be as... covered in pink as he is. Unless he, for some reason, constantly dies his hair and paints squares on his face. That would actually be pretty funny.

Damian : Eli, you've been in the bathroom for 2 hours, what are you doing?

Eli: Putting pink squares all over my body. As normal people do.

Damian : But...why tho?

Eli: Aesthetic.

2. Jayjay

AAAAAAAAAAAH! MY EYE-- yeah, I'm not doing that joke again.

Look, I liked Jay in the Die Young video. Her colours weren't as saturated and they worked well together. Everywhere else? Not only do her colours clash terribly against each other, with a few exceptions, her colour pallet is always so bright it's actually painful to look at for more than two seconds. Her design in Die Young was just fine. It communicated exactly what it needed to about Jayjay. Not to mention it used contrasting colours in a way that was nicer to look at. Lesson here kids? Jay doesn't need a loud design. She needs and effective design.

Also, any Dollcreep fans who try to come out of the woodwork to say shit along the lines of "Dollcreep did it sooooo much better "

....no he didn't. Get off my front porch, you wannabe edgelords. I'm the non straight edge Lord of social ineptitude here!

And number one goes to......

.....you know, if I didn't already use the Nick Cage joke already, I'd be hamming the shit out of it rn.

Look, I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep this dude on the list, since unlike the others, I dunno if vivz is still using him, and I didn't want to go after a character she may have abandoned, BUT JESUS ALMIGHTY.

This design actually hurts my head when I look at it. Take everything I said about Jayjay and stick it here, except times 100! The colours are far too bright, and clash horribly. ..to quote my buddy, @imviotrash when they first saw him, "What even is Whitney? "

Wake up at 4:30

PM.

Just kidding. I am going to wake up at 4:30am for a month. Reason being, I keep seeing two things:

Youtubers trying to "wake up at 4:30 like Jocko Willink for 7 days."

Self help books promising to tell me one more thing that will suddenly fix my inability to get things done and achieve my goals.

It was some mix of seeing a bunch of Tom Bilyeu videos and listening to a bunch of audiobooks and podcasts about self improvement that led me to decide this. Something was weird this week. Instead of helping me, listening to these podcasts/books/etc. left me kind of irritated. I wanted to hear something new that would help me. But a lot of it was the same stuff. (Don't get me wrong. These authors and philosophers are great and they continue to dish out some awesome perspectives and gems that I carry with me.) BUT what was irritating was that I kept pressing play hoping to hear that one thing that I was doing wrong and what I could fix NOW to stop fucking up my dreams. Then I would get 20 minutes in and get bored and realize I wasn't being told anything new. I'd look at the 41:06 minutes left on the podcast and go "Ugh, what a waste of time." My mindset was dread rather than being ready to be a student.

I realized that there's nothing left for me to be told. I just have to do. There isn't some magic phrase at this point that is going to get me to suddenly buckle down and get it all done. At this point, all of the special quotes and brain hacks have faded into a muffled tone in the hazy background of my mind, and I'm left with, "Well, am I doing it or not?" All I hear now is the come-to-Jesus, no-frills decree that Jocko Willink, David Goggins, and others say about getting stuff done, "Nobody likes to hear it. The secret to getting difficult things done is to do them (paraphrase)."

So I am going to do them. I will probably fail 99 times and maybe do okay on the 100th. But I'll do them.

And it starts with waking up at 4:30am. This time works for me, because my body sleeps for 7.5 hours every night, and going to bed at 9pm seems doable. 9pm to 11pm is braindead, content-consumption time for me anyway. Don't think I'll miss it. And dipping out of social stuff on the weekends before everybody gets too drunk is just MWAH. Best of both worlds.

Why a month? Because 7 days doesn't teach me anything. My body isn't going to adjust enough in 7 days for the outcome to matter. A month though? That will give me some worthwhile data. I can get in the groove and see what effect it has on me long-term. Or medium term. (I literally considered committing to a year, but with how EMT schedules are being described to me, I could be working 24-48 hours in a row within the next 6 months, so I'd rather not overpromise and underdeliver.)

I'm trying to think of how to end this post, because my brain is trying to churn through this plan and is trying to convince me there's more to it or there's more to say. But there isn't. There will be more later, sure, after I've actually done something. But now? No real use to picking apart the plan. That hasn't worked so far. Sooooo here we're gonna just do. There will be time for reflection during and after also. No need to panic myself into inaction.

Hey when David Bowie died all of these receipts came into light about him being a neonazi and a pedophile and all sorts of horrible things. I've loved DB since I was 13 and used to be embarrassingly obsessed with him, having done hours of research on him and reading everything I could. I have never seen anything about this and, when he died, I specifically researched these rumors, finding absolutely nothing. People are bringing up these receipts again. Is there any merit to it? What should I do

Not gonna lie, the first like, 2 lines of this message made me afraid that I was going to end up very upset for having opened it.Yeah, there’s a weird but very vocal minority on this site especially who’ve decided that Bowie was evil or something. Which is simultaneously awful, untrue, and almost kinda funny in an absurd way. Like…anyone who does any semblance of research into this can quickly dispel these allegations, but that requires a level of work that most of these people are completely unwilling and uninterested in doing, because it’s a hell of a lot more fun for them to go on a witchhunt than look at facts objectively. (These are usually the same people who demonize Michael Jackson, which is a can of worms I don’t want to open on this particular blog, lol). Basically the short version is this:

The Nazi thing: This argument is based on 2 incidents, only one of which ever had any merit. One was an unfortunate photograph that was snapped of DB standing in an open-top limo; the photographer snapped their shot when he was mid-wave, and the resulting photograph looks an awful lot like he was giving the nazi salute. Multiple sources (including people that were there, and I think even the photographer themselves) have disputed that claim, explaining that it was a normal wave and the photo only captured part of it. It wasn’t a salute and he didn’t offend anyone who was actually there.There’s an unfortunate quote from him, taken from an interview in ’74 (I think??), where Bowie stated that the UK could benefit from a fascist regime. He did in fact say this, but he went on to condemn that quote, as well as his overall state of mind in the mid-70s, later on when he’d gotten clean and sober. As concerning (and potentially offensive) as that quote was, he gave it while completely coked out of his mind, during a period of time where he admitted to doing 11 grams a day and was in a constant state of paranoid delusions and hallucinations. In general, I’d say to take that quote (as well as many things he said from 1973 to early 1977) with a MASSIVE grain of salt, because he wasn’t in his right mind. This is something he repeatedly owned up to and grew from, and his later work denounced fascism and totalitarian societies.

The pedophilia claim stems directly from the story of a notorious groupie from the 70s, who claims that Bowie took her virginity in the early 70s, when she was still a minor. While this is problematic by nature, the groupie herself wrote in her memoir that she not only repeatedly lied about her age to every celebrity she met (in hopes of getting them in bed), she also had only positive things to say of the experience, claiming that not only did she seek him out sexually, but that the entire ordeal was consensual, enjoyable sex. Bowie was just one of literally dozens of rockstars that she sought out in the 70s for this exact purpose, so I’m not sure what to make of it, really. This was someone who was sexually autonomous from a very young age, and made a goal to have sexual encounters with numerous singers she admired. The music industry of the 70s (and arguably, the 80s, 90s, and present) was seedy and sexual, and anyone with enough clout to be recognized was hooking up with just about anyone and everyone who was up for it. Considering that this specific woman who’s always referenced in this particular story has stated, multiple times, in her own words, that she did exactly what she wanted, gave these people a false impression about her age, and had no regrets, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to interpret this situation. I don’t think this instance was about control or forcing sex on a minor because of a specific, sick attraction to children. I think this was a rockstar who liked to have casual sex with people, who was approached by someone who offered casual sex, and who agreed. Whether that was smart or not is up for debate, but malicious? Hardly.

TL;DR: It’s a lot of tabloid bullshit made to grab the attention of people who never liked him in the first place, and people who like being upset without doing their homework. In general, don’t let randos on the internet police your interests. If someone presents something to you that’s a cause for alarm, by all means, check it out, but if it’s a crock of bull? Block them and keep it movin, we don’t need to make time for these people. You can lead the ignorant to a source, but you can’t make them read, lol. I’m sorry this is sooooo long, I hope this helps at all!

Find Your F*%&ing City Happy Place

Because if you’ve lived in Chicago / any large city for longer than a month, you start to realize it’s hard to find room to breathe unless you really set out to find it. When I say “happy place,” I exclude the home and bed and all comfortable, cozy and familiar places immediately. As you grow your roots into a city, there’s nothing more important than being able to collect little spaces that are “yours,” so when you step outside your front door it all feels a little less overwhelming. Maybe it’s just because I get restless watching too much Netflix unless it’s rainy and cold outside, or maybe it’s because on a different day that same weather inspires me to pull on a furry jacket and set up with my computer in a cafe somewhere... but I love finding places that welcome me in and wrap me in peace of mind, even if they’re loud and busy and not all that *finger quotes* calming! Going to college in downtown Chicago I always hated the idea of the library and dorm study space because there were a million better places to sit for a while, and once I turned 21 I realized the incredible enjoyment one can get out of ordering a glass of wine in a restaurant to pass the time with. I’m not a hermit, I like when people are with me too, but for the most part... I like knowing there are seats I like to sit in whichever direction I find myself heading.

In the spirit of a) not being a hermit and b) sharing some spots that I've been to recently and cannot get out of my head for the life of me, I've listed my two favorites below so you can go experience the weird intimacy of living in a big city too. It’s really freeing! And delicious! Armed with a glass of wine or cup of indulgent, chocolatey coffee you won’t care you’re alone- and if you’re with someone, I hope they make it all the more special.

1. Duck Duck Goat

This place like really, REALLY nailed the ambiance and 8/10 nailed the food. I walked by it on my way to Aba a few weeks ago, smelled something incredible waft out of the open door as someone exited, felt a warm, red glow cover me as I passed the window that looked into a packed room, and immediately pulled out my phone to make reservations. Two nights later when Chicago skipped to winter, Eric and I walked into this West Loop gold mine owned by the same people who brought the city Girl and the Goat, and were greeted with an exceptionally pleasing amount of charisma stemming from the decor to the steaming plates of food. The first dining room is a bit more traditional, with light yellow wall paper and soft, wooden details. People have their coats slung over their chairs, digging into family-style plates of colorful foods. Then you enter my favorite area, the bar, which looks like a giant hut strung with Christmas lights was thrown through the roof and happened to land there. This is where we sat, right under the roof of the hut, the business of the bar to my right and the bright red room covered in silks and satins that initially beckoned me to my left. It was loud, busy, and crowded, but somehow each table felt very secluded and personal. “This place is SO COOL,” I kept saying to Eric, and while he agreed he was more focused on what we were going to eat. I ordered almost one of everything and we ate like FAT LIZARDS. From the scallion pancakes that were crispy on the outside and so decadent on the inside, to the crab rangoon made with real crab (hence the hefty price tag for an otherwise “cheap” appetizer), to the cold spicy noodles that stole the show for me, it was all sooooo well made. The fried rice was fine, nothing special, a little too many mushrooms for my liking. But honestly as something to stick a spoon into to break up the crunchier foods, it was great!

Besides the food being a superb twist on typical Asian menu items, this place is somewhere I could see going on a very snowy day and hunkering down with some Sake and enough crab rangoon to last a bit, and I can also see going for a late lunch in the summer when the patio is open to just hang out. It’s really a special place, and deserves the hype it’s gotten. There’s something about a dim-lit table in a big, bright place, a bunch of food to stick chopsticks into, and a really lovely conversation with someone you love that just can’t be beat. God that night rocked.

2. Princi

So this place really shocked me, I'm not going to lie. Like Duck Duck Goat, Princi had also gotten a lot of buzz in a short amount of time since it’s an overseas foodie staple. Known as the ritzier Starbucks (since they’re owned by Starbucks), my expectations for this bougie little bakery were low. After living in London, I grew all too aware of the places that look cute until you realize they were created cheap and quick, the coffee sucks, and the pastries aren’t actually that good (“But it’s European and so good!!” - everyone on Yelp; no). Princi gave me that vibe. Luckily, I AM A BELIEVER NOW.

I met a friend here to discuss the bizarre thing that is adult life and was really blown away when I walked in. The windows are gingerbread-house perfect, letting in the glow of the late-day sun and providing a peek at the skyline since it sits in the middle of the West Loop (a trend, hmmmm). The wooden seats line the exposed-brick wall that wraps around the centerpiece of the whole place: the bakery. There’s bread as far as the eye can see, an impressive row of Starbucks Reserve espresso machines (if they have actual hand-stamped espresso- yet to find out.), and lots of vino. In fact, by 6:30pm, everyone who wasn't us or 6 years old was enjoying a healthy glass of vino. That’s exactly how welcoming this place feels- you just want to settle into it and have a bite of everything. Traditionally at the Italian Princi’s, that’s how it works- you build up a plate of bits of whatever you want. In America, we have pastries and bread and you can buy them if you want the whole damn thing- so I did.

I ordered a brioche with cream, a brioche with chocolate, a raisin bun, and an olive breadstick made almost entirely of olives. As I told Eric, olive bread is my love language. I think it’s truly the most delicious thing in the entire world, especially with some brie smeared on top. MY LORD.

The pastries were all superb, with the softest, sweetest brioche topped with a line of indulgent, heavy cream that seemed similar to a fancy frosting on top being the winner by far. As an adult, after complaining about being an adult for a long time, it’s fun to decide to eat pastries for dinner and not really give a fuck about if that’s “what you’re supposed to do.” Literally, fuck it, eat a plate of pastries if that’s what feels good. And it did!

There was something about Princi that made me feel nostalgic for a lot of things, and also weirdly comforted. I think it felt like somewhere I would find happiness in during my time in London, and I think it also felt like somewhere I wish existed during grad school. I already dream of going there on a random day full of nothing to do, and just reading a book, or writing a blog post, or just enjoying a carefree moment.

Brioche feels too carefree to be stressed around, you know? It doesn’t deserve to be burdened.

That’s all I got for now, I'd love to hear where you find happiness in the city! It doesn’t have to be a restaurant... but it would be better than if it’s not :)

I'm seventeen years old and I think I have depression. All teenagers are emotional, I get that, but I know this is more. When I'm occupied and around people for a few hours at a time or less, I'm fine and usually even happy. Then when I actually have time to stop and think and let my mind wander, I usually feel kind of hopeless and just very sad. I also have other emotional issues, like the littlest things seem to enrage me. Also, I read somewhere that depression can cause physical issues such as digestive issues (which I have been having a lot of the past four or five months). I cancel plans a lot now, either because my stomach is acting up or I feel too sad to go anywhere and I just dont want to be bothered with people. Ive been sleeping a lot more than normal lately because thats the only time things dont bother me. When I was about thirteen I had an issue with cutting, I would talk to my guidance counselor (which is not an option now because I did home schooling and now am done with school until college next fall) and when she realized that I may have some more serious issues, she called my mom. My mom always brushed it off. She talked to me a total of one time, only when I went to my older cousin and my cousin forced my mother to talk to me. Basically, my mom got mad because I said I didnt feel comfortable talking to her and she refused to send me to a counselor, then she said she would send me to a counselor (at that time I had insurance) but she never actually ended up doing anything. So I went back to doing what I always do, pretending to be fine, and for the most part I controlled it. I stopped cutting until about seven months ago, which was also when all my other issues started popping up. I havent cut myself in a few months now, but I still have the urge to which is not okay. Depression and other mental health issues run in my family, and I keep thinking of one particular relative who got so bad that she took her own life. I know that at some point she must have been like me, where it was difficult but still somewhat manageable, and it just scares me that I could get to the point she was at.
