=> Wookyung dies (listen... despite everything... it'd be sad if he had to live the rest of his life all alone… plus it's just cleaner this way? no opportunity to fall back into his psychopathic stalker ways)

==> Minho feels a mix of relief (the toxic person he hated/feared/resented is gone) and grief (he's devastatingly lonely at having lost the only person he mattered to and who mattered to him)

==> Minho inherits Wookyung's money (or as much as he can without Wookyung's family causing a fuss), giving him financial security as he rebuilds his life and learns how to live independently again

=> Minho moves to a new city so he can start a new life and works as a translator, mostly on manuals but he has hesitantly agreed to some fiction translations

==> Minho finds new friends. After recovering from hitting rock bottom, he's a lot less full of himself and a lot more aware of what matters (ie connection with people), so he's much more likable and happy

==> He meets someone new and they fall in love. He finally has gentle but passionate sex that's not humiliating or painful

=> Eventually, he feels comfortable enough to try writing again; his lover convinces him to seek publication so he hesitantly does and it gets published

The writing is familiar, but they don't even consider Minho could've written it, because they all watched him crash and burn so hard they assumed he'd never recover. Minho doesn't know about that, though. He's managed to resist the urge to look up the people from his past

Trying to understand Kuai Liang's mindset as he reforms the Lin Kuei. Most of the people he knew were corrupted or forced to join the Cyber Initiative. His best friend is gone.

Maybe he remembers the brother he wanted to avenge. Maybe he remembers a Bi Han that loved him and protected him when they were younger. Maybe he reforms the clan thinking he's doing what his brother would've wanted.

Then Noob Saibot appears and he's their enemy and now he hates Kuai Liang and what he's doing to the Lin Kuei. Does the fact that he is a wraith changed him? Does Kuai Liang remember his brother right? If Tomas and the others were still alive, would they side with him? Is he even doing anything right at all?

Author Thoughts - Trans characters

So I'm working on a new project (shush, I know I've got 35+ WIPs), and the main character is trans.

(Transfemme NB, to be specific)

She doesn't start the fic hatched, though, which makes writing for her harder than I expected.

Pretty much the only trans character I write for at all these days is Ranma, which depending on which story I'm writing for may be genderfluid more than trans (if we're going to pick nits, anyway), and s/he's certainly not NB in any of my fics (That'd be Ukyo, btw, again depending on which story). This means I have to delve back into my own experience and dredge up those thoughts and feelings and actions I was doing back before I allowed myself (I didn't "hatch" the way a lot of modern transgirls do, more on that in a minute) to transition, and then I have to further take that torturous experience and apply that to an egg who did nothing to deserve that kind of pain.

I'm currently working on chapter 1. The character remains firmly shell'd until chapter 6. When that happens, I can start using she/her again as I'm writing, but until then, it's he/him.

And it's hard. I spent my whole life knowing that I was (or, at least, really, really wanted to be) a girl/woman. I was, legitimately, waiting for some form of permission. Permission from my parents, permission from my friends, permission from my wife, permission from the church...

And at some point after my life had come crashing down around me for the umpteenth time, I realized nobody was going to give me that permission. That I was the one holding me back.

I was terrified those first few months. I was expecting to be arrested, I stopped going to church entirely (and have had many existential crisis since about the state of my soul and my relationship with God), I was expecting my ex to gain full custody of our daughter and the courts to tell me I was a horrible sex predator just because I was trans, and I was scared my daughter and my parents would never want to see me again.

And even though my character (an OC this time) is single, no family to speak of, and lives in a world where she can't be a woman so it doesn't enter her mind to think she might be, there's still the same experience of feeling completely trapped, alone, and expecting to lose everything and everyone you ever cared about and expecting that your world will end.

So, yeah, this is...kinda hard.
