#10. What's an au you have for them?

Since them meeting at all is technically an AU i have 3 different ways that they do meet up. There's the one where Juniper ends up with the agency/adjacent to and ends up working with Reggie (have written a fic with this). The next one is Juniper surviving but basically going stealth and living as normal of a life as he can and ending up meeting Reggie through chance (most recent fic I've written). And then there's my personal favourite where Reginald "You're lucky my tracking skills are still up to snuff" Crane keeping himself busy after Phoenix was MIA and finding Juniper still alive (fic I want to write but haven't started mainly because it may end up multi chapter).

In terms of more AU canon bending taking them and putting them in a completely unrelated situation...I have a guilty pleasure Warrior Cats AU for IEYTD in general. Both JJ and Reggie have perfect warrior cats suffixes in their names already (Juniper and Crane) so they're called Junipersong (charcoal bengal) and Craneflight (tabby Norwegian forest cat). It's very silly but the amount of scenes I have in my mind for it...good lord...

Augh my friend Imp wrote an absolutely excellent fic about it (tragically in the realm of unfinished Google docs) and I'm shaking their hand about it so hard. Basically Juniper kissing Reggie but he like wasn't ready/fully expecting it and Juniper absolutely panicking because he thinks he's misread every interaction between them both since they got closer. The second one is much sweeter though,,

I've complained about it on here a bit already, but yeah I don't think people making fun of Johnny because they think he's losing hair realize that a lot of people in real life are going to lose their hair as they age, and their jokes at Johnny are also jokes at these people. It's not even just an issue cis men can have either, everyone's hair thins with age, some just more (and sooner) than others. To make fun of someone, fictional or otherwise, for losing their hair is digging a trench to fill with future self loathing at one's own hair loss. And hair loss in >2023 isn't even that bad anymore!! There are so many ways to manage and style it now.

Probably either Enot or Saint. Saint had my favourite campaign, but I find Enot the most fun to draw. I know I'm a bit of a broken record, but it really is so hard to choose!

#Y'know I really wanna talk about Saint's campaign a bit so I'll do it here!#I absolutely adore the difficulty of it and how you are almost entirely defenseless at the start!#When I first played Rain World being so defenseless due to inexperience made the game so much more exciting to play #but after getting better at it I'd usually just fight creatures if I had a spear.#It felt less like surviving and more like any other game.#But saint! Saint's campaign completely removes that issue!#Having to think quickly on how to avoid things with the limited resources I have is far more fun than just going #“stab with spear untill dead” for almost every creature.#Not to mention the incredible atmosphere.#And the snow as well! I love the cold mechanics! Once again it makes me feel like I just started!#Instead of forgetting that the rain is even an issue half the time it is an ever present threat!#Saint's movement abilities are amazing too! one of my favorite tf2 headcanons is that spy isn't french at all. he's a new yorker. he's canadian. or english, actually. guy was born in a swagless place and realized he would never be seen as the mysterious and enchanting smoothtalker he was aiming to be with his natural accent and birth cultural baggage so he fabricated all of his agent persona with a nationality that would compliment it. there's no one alive that knows the truth, he made sure of it.

Why.....do they insist on doing that again? His only line, inserted around 14:55, and they choose to go completely off-script with him complaining and yelling unprompted, being ooc self-important about not being on the front lines, and needing to be 'tamed' like a dog by Todoroki and Iida. This is s6 already; this flanderized, regressed stereotype of him is not cute.

And no - compare it to the same scene in the manga's ch259, and he's silent (no lines at all), focused, and serious on civilian rescue duty! As he should be. The difference is like night and day; without following Hori's script, BONES can't respect or characterize Kacchan correctly if their life depended on it.

I’m at work without much work to do. Fox Time.

The Fox is a fun god in the simple dichotomy in that it is the god of perception, and is also completely blind. This is because the Fox is a punk ass god, who doesn’t know when to back down from a fight, and as a result got its eyes ripped out by the Crow. This has resulted in a long-lasting hatred between the two gods, which is more often than not expressed through their servants. If you ask me, this is a little unfair on the servants, but hey, what can I do about it? I’m just the author.

The fight in question came about because the role for “god of death” became available for claiming and both the Fox and Crow wanted it. The Fox ended up trying to cheat its way to claiming it, and when the Crow won and found out, it blinded the Fox in its anger. Fun.

Foxes and Crows tend to not be able to be near to each other without getting pissy. This is in part due to upbringing - Crows, those from Glalis, especially are raised with the idea of the Fox and it’s servants being cruel and callous and inhumane. Foxes have a little more of a sketchy dislike for the Crow, because they are not raised in specific groups, but there is animosity. One of the few times they’ve been able to cooperate was during a successful strike by “all” servants, where, in trying to stop gods hijacking them, they ceased using magic.

Servants to the Fox are granted the ability to fuck with your perception. This is notably not the ability to turn invisible – light still reaches their retinas, they are still capable of being seen. What their magic does, though, is screw with your ability to see them. Rather than seeing a solid, human-looking shape, you instead see this weird haze that your eyes really do not want to stick to. Straining to keep it in focus gives you a headache, gives you eyestrain, gives you a Bad Time. They are able to pull others into this haze and hide them from sight, even if the person in question is not magical.

Something I haven’t talked about an awful lot is drawbacks to magic; every magic type has its own way of affecting the servant, be it mentally or physically, that correlates to what sort of magic you are channelling. Over-use of magic tends to bring this draw-back on quicker, although general usage will add up over time. Similar to how the body deteriorates naturally with age, your magic will wear you down.

Fox-y draw-backs correlate with the perception thing. Over-use or extended use will often result in the servant going blind themselves. Unlike a lot of cultures, though, Foxes tend to see their draw-back as something to be celebrated – their own god is blind, and losing their vision is just evidence you’ve served it well, really. Those born blind in Fox communities are often celebrated in their own way, seen as closer to their god, revered because of this. This world doesn’t really have priests, but if it did, these people could be referred to as something similar.

Ah – on that note, communities. The Fox does not sponsor one area specifically. It does not lay claim to a town, or a village, or even a single house. Its servants, however, do tend to lean on the more nomadic side. Those who travel will – in time – find themselves with a few servants to the Fox in their midst, either joining later, or often born to them. You can often find large communities of travellers who are servants to the Fox – either magically, or ideologically. These can be travelling performers, merchants, runaways, bandits, whatever. It likes to travel :)!

Fun little thing – due to the Fox being blind and unable to see itself, it often uses its servants to see the world, as and when it needs. All gods do this to an extent – they are able to express their will and desires through those they grant magic to (or sponsor), and the animals they represent – but the Fox likely does it the most, just to have a little peek at what the vibe is in general. Servants do not know when this occurs.

Mmmm some gods mark out their influence or servants in various ways. I vaguely mentioned something similar when discussing the Axolotl, and the white sleeves the servants tend to have, but that’s more… a result of magic, not a marking. Foxes who are granted magic are born with black nails. In the TSS world, when you damage your own nail and it turns black, it’s referred to as a Foxes claw.

General perception of the Fox and it’s servant - excluding the Crow and it’s servants - is pretty good! It’s quite fond of the Deer, and is seen as quite loyal to a lot of ideas.
