Phoenix? Obvious tenor. Theatre kid and art kid? TENOR.

Y’all would think Miles would be the tenor, but nope, he’s an obvious baritone/bass. More baritone than anything but he can hit those low notes.

Larry? I want him to be a bass sooo badly but no, he’s either a baritone or just straight tenor. LITERALLY STRAIGHTEST TENOR TO EVER TENOR. Everyone always assumes he’s gay and he gets worked up about it.

Maya is a mezzo-soprano, obvi. I wanted her to be an alto or straight soprano but I don’t really think it fit her. People’s vocal parts literally fit what they look like. She is a mezzo.

FRANZISKA IS AN ALTO. End of story.

Klavier is such a tenor it’s not even funny. He wants to be a baritone/bass sooo badly. But he has like, one of those really strong tenor voices. There’s no way he hasn’t sung Santa Fe.

Apollo is a baritone… That’s it.

ATHENA. ATHENA. WHAT IS ATHENA. Brother I really can’t decide. Has the tenacity of an alto but the mostly bubbly personality of a soprano. I’ll stick her as mezzo for now.

PEARL? SOPRANO. TRUCY? MEZZO-SOPRANO. Need I say anymore?

Gumshoe is an obvious bass. Lots of basses are himbos and he’s no exception.

As much as I want Kristoph to be a tenor because he thinks he’s so insufferably above everyone else, I have to pick him as a bass. Nobody expects it, they all expect him to be a tenor. He has a beautiful bass voice.

SIMON IS A BASS. FULL BASS. Nothing more to add.

Dahlia is a soprano and Iris is at least a mezzo-soprano or alto. Dahlia’s one of those really bitchy sopranos who never takes a mezzo-soprano part. Iris always bears the brunt of the mezzo-soprano/second work because Dahlia makes her.

10.) Best/funniest comment you’ve ever gotten on a fic?

I think the funniest is probably one from ff.net on like, brokerreport939.omni, because boy that one's a real gut punch and people respond to that in a lot of amusing ways.

The best comment, though? That's harder. Because like, when I was posting Flight of the Flying V, there were a few people leaving long, thoughtful comments regularly, including someone following every chapter, and that might be the best feeling I've ever had posting anything? Like, that's SUCH profound validation, man, what an absolute joy. My whole TAZ writing period was full of comments like that, from talented writers and enthusiastic readers, totally out of proportion with any other fandom I've ever been a part of, and it completely owned, lemme tell you!

But, since I'm feeling sentimental tonight... maybe the first review I got on ff.net from noted bestie @orchidcactus. Our very first interaction! She's the reason I kept writing, the reason I started editing other people's work, the reason I joined tumblr, the reason I followed and fell into friendships with all the other writers who've become some of the most important people I've got in my life. If she hadn't commented so thoughtfully, or wanted to talk about craft after? My life would be so, so much worse.

So yeah. Gotta be that one.

14.) First fandom you ever wrote fanfiction for?

Ace Attorney, actually. And I don't remember what it was about, and I don't have the login for that ff.net account anymore, and it's a good thing I don't because when I wrote those I was extremely 18 and had no idea what I was doing. Fun times, though! Lot of trawling around Court Records.net (oh hey it's still up! Good for them!) and thinkin' bout angsty situations while listening to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. Sometimes I hear a song and it sends me right back to that point in my life. (I listened to a lot of the Gyakuten Saiban orchestra and jazz albums. Like, a lot.)

Also, Cadenza's Turnabout album? Still fuckin' slaps.

17.) Favorite AU to write?

Post-canon. Always. I love exploring what happens after everyone's arcs are "concluded," and seeing how much farther they still have to go and where they can develop further.

I don't tend to enjoy AUs that are radically different from the source material, like coffee shops or high schools or what have you. If you change the backgrounds of the characters too much, I just don't understand how they're the same characters anymore! But I do love AUs that are just "what if this person made a different choice here" or "what if this thing happened to someone else?" Exploring those what-ifs is pretty fun.

That would be The Queen Who Never Was (but once), The Sins of Fathers, The Swallow of Novigrad, Love is the Value of Life and Lord Edgeworth and the Inn by the River

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always. Because i want more lol. But also because I want to scream with people and love seeing what particular things people liked or picked up on.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I think that would be The Traitor's Daughter, my Andor fic. Because I was thinking of giving the characters catharsis and a happy'ish ending and decided naaaah

I think its toss-up between Where Paths Lead and Let me be your armor because they both literally end with people in love riding off into the sunshine.

Not really. Got one person complaining recently that no HOTD AU should be allowed a happy-ish ending but you know...

So last year some loon stole The Swallow of Novigrad and tried to sell it as an self-published ebook on amazon, which was wild. The thing that amused me the most I remeber was that they chose a picture of Cavill!Geralt for the cover, which is funny since a) I don't write in the show canon and b) Geralt doesn't even appear in the fic.

Yes! @herbalinz-of-yesteryear does occassionally work on a chinese translation of Swallow (when not writing her own excellent work) and also there's a Russian translation of the same work.

Not since the Star Trek fic I wrote in High School

I don't know, I don't really ship as such even do I have alot of ships (Ciri/Morvran, Yennefer/Geralt, V/Judy, Keira/Lambert, Theresa/Henry/Hans) that I enjoy.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I'm increasingly sceptical I will ever write the final part of my Ciri triology but we'll see

Vizualisation, dialogue, introspection

Currently finishing things lol. But also connecting dialogue with action.

Naah. I think most con-lang is overrated. There are some cases its warranted but usually unneccesary

What were your inspirations for fae AU? It’s the first fae thing that every held my attention, so to me everything you did was crazy out of the blue original lol! Not to say that I don’t think your work was original—I really, really enjoyed it to the degree I amped up my efforts to get friends to play AA so they could read it and talk about it with me lol—but I write too so I know the best stuff is riffing on other stuff u know? And I want to trace the lineage so to speak I’m fascinated.

You made your friends play Ace Attorney so you could share my fanfic with them? I am incredibly flattered!

The Fae AU is really weird foundationally because I was not deeply into fae stuff when I started writing it. I dashed off the first chapters riding solely on the "fae and lawyers are alike because they can't lie" joke, which.... probably was put into my head off a tumblr post or something. Tumblr has its own minor love affair with the fae. (Elsewhere University is definitely baked into the DNA of the Fae AU, I know that for sure. The vibe in that comic where you're not always sure where regular college weirdness crosses over to magical weirdness - love that.)

But once I sat down to actually start crafting lore, I did basically the same thing I did when I was writing stories with werewolves and vampires in high school - what I like to do, with those folklore creatures that have long histories in folklore and pop culture, is to toss all the pop culture knowledge out of my head and start my research from the ground up. Then I just read until I find stuff that makes my brain itch. It doesn't have to be deep research, I'm not writing a paper, but I'll read Wikipedia and follow some citations from there, read a couple books, these sorts of rabbit holes are fun for me.

A lot of the Fae AU lore about fairies really does just come from it being an Ace Attorney adaptation, though. Curses as they are come from me looking at the games like, "yeah, our protagonists keep stumbling into crime scenes because this is a mystery game and we need to have some crimes, and they can't start every case with a client just walking into the office and asking for our help, that'll be boring if they repeat it too often, BUT while this is a genre convention that doesn't need to be explained what if I did explain it with fae magic?"

I'd probably have ended up crafting very different fae lore if I'd been writing a fae AU about any other series - Ace Attorney weirdness really helped shape the series and its fae into what they are.

mandela v2. elaborate 👁👁

so funny story this ask has been sitting in my drafts for like 2 months cuz i honestly didn't know how to even begin to describe what mandela v2 is. it's an enigma even i don't know what it is it's just a dark spot in my brain that i occasionally stick my head into and come out covered in ashes and piranhas but. i'll try ig !!

it's kinda just me taking the characters and very general rules of this universe and making like. a completely new story put of them . a lot of the events are similar but shuffled around and there's a ton of new shit and it is FULL of headcanons and really self indulgent shit lol. it's not based on anything and there's no central premise it's just. another version of tmc. hence v2

i can't list every change in there because even i don't know the full extent of the changes i made but uh

- cesar has a special interest in the occult because autistic cesar is real to ME okay. he writes a bunch of shit about alternates and they figure out how to channel spirits because they're just like that. he kinda becomes a hermit the older they get and they have a very normal kinship with alternates that definitely isn't anythign to worry about :)

- cesar lives his encounter with alt!cesar but mark doesn't so mark's ghost (after escaping limbo and reliving his trauma because mark has to be absolutely miserable all the time it's required by law) follows him around and cesar occasionally channels him. but it works like in ace attorney so he physically changes to look like mark n shit it's funky

- bps isn't a high school club turned society but rather a giant underground operation with a head council and divisions in mandela + bythorne + werksha + etc. with the main goal of fighting both alternates and the police wherever they can. they're the ones that discover that dragonbreath bullets kill alternates and they have an entire research division it's cool i love v2 bps

- jonah joins bps before adam does in this au and ze's kinda like. the vice president of bps despite technically being too young when they first join. they mean everything to me in this au you have no idea

- mandelatech is a much larger corporation too. bps/mcpd/mandelatech are like. 3 warring factions kinda (which. yes. means that dave and eve end up fighting w bps a lot. it's. eugh)

- thatcher stays as lieutenant a lot longer than he does in canon and ae's just. so pissed at everything god bless. ☕ wants everything to be okay but he buries those hopes in pure rage <3 ☕'s canonically won fights against alts with aer bare hands so people know not to fuck with him. he'd call canon thatcher wet and pathetic LOL

- generally v2's on a much larger scale and kinda considers the world of tmc as a whole, rather than just focusing on specific characters. idk i like worldbuilding it's fun so sue me. there are a lot of ocs that fill the space suffice to say and i am totally willing to just throw whatever i want in there. this au is my witch's cauldron

- mervin has some shit to do maybe good for him

I’m a digital artist, writer, editor, and obsessive maker of playlists. My Real Person Job is marketing and I’m just now really getting into Minecraft on the Berry Patch SMP.

I’m known in some circles for being a fic editor who’s beta read for quite a few people, most notably @emiartse for their sbi fic The Golden Phoenix. I love helping people improve their writing so if you need a pal to look over your work, you’re absolutely welcome to ask. I did get a degree in That because i enjoy it so much.

This blog does engage with hermitshipping/trafficshipping, though it’s more of the latter and grounded in characters in the Life Series and just tagged that way to accommodate for people who don’t want to see anything related. You couldn’t pay me to care about the love lives of real YouTubers, I have like. A job and stuff. I pay taxes.

I take a pretty lackadaisical stance on following and mutuals, which again shouldn't matter much bc this is a side blog. I unfollowed one of my best friends in high school because he wouldn’t stop reblogging marvel headcanons and I tailor my feed really specifically. If we were mutuals and I unfollowed or muted you, it’s more than likely nothing personal and sometimes I come back! If you unfollow me… well I probably won’t notice, I’ll be honest. Again. Job and taxes.

I don’t really keep a dni list because that’s not in my control, but since I’m in mcyt circles, know that I openly hate dreamteam and love talking shit about them because of *gestures to all of it*

Afterword

The selfship Valentine's event is pretty much over, and this doesn’t fit in with any of the theme days anyway (and I know that’s fine but for this I mostly wanted to try and stick to the themes dkjfg) BUT… I wanted to say a few things about some certain F/Os that I didn’t get to during the event.

(tw for mention of real-life death)

I love all of my F/Os dearly, but I have more of a history with some of them. And even fewer still held a deeper meaning to me before I even knew about the term “F/O.”

I think it began with Pit. My grandfather died in 2014, much earlier and more suddenly than expected. At the time, and for a short time before, I was very devoted to the religion I grew up with (of which he was also devoted to his whole life, up until around his death), and I had a lot of encouragement to continue this devotion from the one very good friend I had, who also shared this religion. This window of time also coincided with my first time playing Kid Icarus: Uprising, which I absolutely adored. And because of the way that I handle grief – isolating myself with the things and hobbies that I like – Pit could not have possibly been a more perfect source of comfort. An angel, a heavenly messenger who might help me say the things I never got to say to my grandfather, who might help me hear him back. Someone who would be my friend and hug me and say all the right things to me about death and grief and healing. It’s a little embarrassing to say but I’m tearing up a little as I write this. I didn’t selfship with Pit at this point - right now he was just the closest thing to a guardian angel I had, because I didn’t think I could take real solace in anything other than something like divine intervention.

I graduated high school half a year later in 2015. I had about a 1-2 year “break” period, and then was expected to start seriously considering work or more school. The fact that I am still tearing up about my grandfather’s death nearly a decade after it happened should give you an idea of how badly it affected me before, even if I had a hard time outwardly expressing it. I was not ready to continue life yet in the slightest, despite the well-meaning pressure from my parents (and I will never think of it as anything but well-meaning, just really poorly timed).

So when I was then introduced to Seduce Me – a visual novel featuring a protagonist whose beloved grandfather dies much earlier than he was supposed to, and despite her grief she is expected to continue her normal adult life at the behest of her parents (well, one parent), before finding solace in otherworldly/supernatural beings that just so happen to appear during this very dark point in her life – it’s safe to say it resonated with me immensely. It’s no wonder then that James became a new source of comfort for me, although this time around I felt comfortable self-shipping with him as well - Seduce Me is a player-insert romance game, after all.

The fact remained though that he served much the same purpose as Pit. It’s the reason why, in my Brother Husbands AU, James and Pit are the two main heads of the house besides myself (and in my Summoner AU, they’re the two beings my sona can summon with each hand: the angel and the demon). They’re the ones who have been here the longest, and they were integral to my healing process. (To a slightly lesser degree, that’s kind of also why I have them listed as “not comfortable sharing” in my F/O list... I think I’d feel kind of weird about it since they’re not just romantic faves to me.)

Needless to say I still haven’t fully recovered from this. That’s why I still include a deceased grandfather in some of my S/I’s backstories (or just keep it in, if it happens to a self-insert character in canon) – Seduce Me, Stardew Valley, Ace Attorney, and probably some others I’m forgetting right now. Incorporating it is a way for me to have more control over it, in a sense (I know realistically I could never have controlled what happened), and it helps me continue to process it in a way that’s comfortable to me.

I didn’t really think of an ending message to this post, so I’m not really sure what else to say, actually. I kind of just wanted to express how important some of my F/Os are to me beyond selfshipping, and I think it’s good if your F/Os bring you this sort of comfort for real-life stuff, too.

It's not my most interesting au, since I'm just kinda still getting into the games and stuff, uh, it's been only a few months but still. It's, technically high school au? Yeah

Uh so in terms of other shit- the real details I'm sorry about my words I'm kinda head dead tonight -Pheonix and Miles are like, seniors, grade 12. They're in mock trial, on opposing sides, and yadda yadda all that jazz of arguing and believing they're rivals not in love- but they're not the focus

No I'm doing a fake out. If I were to write it I'd make it seem like they're the focus for a long bit then suddenly like at the 3/4 or so point of chapter one, I'd switch to the real stars

So in this Maya and Franziska are in the year below them, and while Fran is a full member of team prosecution in Mock Trial, Maya is on the team of writers that help make all the cases they pretend to do, and even acts as witnesses and the accused

Basically something about the cases Maya writes for Franziska's days makes her angry and during a "recess" she confronts her in the hallway and- oop they're making out

Then uh, plot happens a bit later but basically it's them being gay and in school and not doing things the right way but who cares?

Also Misty Fey, Mia, Gregory Edgeworth, and a bunch of others are still alive

Criminal + Dance AUs, huh.

Okay, let’s see. Looks like you left the relationships open to my choice, so I think I’m gonna pick Klema from Ace Attorney. I wrote a fic for them once that involved flipping typical gender roles and one of them was Ema spinning/dipping Klavier in a dance instead of vice versa. I was big into lindyhop at the time, and ever since then have associated them with that.

So, if I were to write this fic, I’d have Ema and Klavier be dance partners in a lindy competition (they both lead/follow, btw). They met at a lesson they’d both decided to take individually (her for exercise, him because he claimed to want to experience music in a different way), and when they continued taking lessons they started attending dances together and were some of the only people from that first class to take dancing seriously. They learned aerials together since you need a partner for that, expanded into different styles, and just wound up associating a lot and eventually getting into competitions and stuff together. All that is backstory - the fic begins with them already being dance partners.

The criminal part comes in here: neither has told the other much about their life outside of dancing. It's kind of an escape for both of them from their 'real life'. Klavier, because he’s found that he really enjoys going unrecognized. He’s still a famous rockstar/prosecutor in this universe, but he put his hair up and went by a different name the first time since he wanted a break from all the publicity, and he’s really enjoyed it since. Of late, this is an issue since he’s falling pretty hard for Ema and feeling guilty about having lied to her all this time.

Ema is lying to him too, though. She told him that she works in a lab, but hasn’t disclosed what kind exactly: a meth lab or something like that. She fell into the work after flunking the test to become a forensic investigator, mainly because it still uses at least some of her scientific knowledge and it pays well. She needs the money to take care of her sister, who in this verse has a serious illness that is just racking up lots of medical costs. Still, she never wanted to work on things that are used to hurt other people, and whatever justifications she’s been using for making drugs is kind of falling apart for her now that she’s been personally assigned to work on processing Borginian cocoons for use as poison for the local mafia, or something.

Their worlds outside dance are going to collide over the Borginian cocoon smuggling, when Klavier starts to learn about a smuggling ring and Ema is on the other side trying to steal away some of that miracle cure for her sister without getting caught. At the same time, they’re involved in this dance competition, and Klavier is attempting to come clean to her about his identity and also ask her out. She has always found him kind of annoying but likes him anyway, and feels bad about lying to him but certainly doesn’t want to get caught, not now.

Probably she would get in trouble for stealing from her employer, and end up going to him for a safe place to stay despite herself. Then she encounters Daryan as Klavier’s best friend, not as one of the big bosses of the smuggling ring, and they both recognize one another at the same time. In the end, Ema manages to help her sister, Daryan is put away for murder, Klavier and Ema both come clean to one another and wind up getting together, and they do well in the competition. I’d probably have her become a witness and get pardoned just so she doesn’t have to do jail time, and I don’t know how much I would keep her backstory similar to the games (maybe it diverged really early, and Lana was badly injured in the Joe Darke case and that’s led to her medical problems today; maybe it went the same up till Ema graduated high school; I dunno). That would change their relationship too, depending, so I’d have to decide that as well, but... that’s the general sketch of what I think for this prompt.

Hi, I am a Tumblr ghost, but I love P5 and just started getting into Ace Attorney, so I followed you to hear more about That Crossover at your leisure <3 Happy Tuesday!

Thanks! Okay, so the setup of this has Akiren as the defense attorney with Makoto as the rival prosecutor, and of course Sae is her superior. However, the assistant is Akechi who is a former detective that used to work under Sae.

Makoto shares the beliefs of early Miles Edgeworth in that she's dead set on getting a guilty verdict every time because she doesn't want any criminals to escape. Standard stuff, however this means that she sees Akechi as a traitor AND suspects him of dubious shit even if she lacks anything she can feasibly charge him with.

The detective who works with Makoto is a down on his luck Zenkichi and Futaba works in forensics. She still lives with Sojiro and Mona is her cat and sadly, I haven't figured out a good way to slot them all into the plot. (The same goes for Maruki, Sumi, and Sophia albeit for obvious reasons.)

Anyway, back to Akechi. Akechi and Akiren have been associates for a while although they more or less met by chance and they're close friends...maybe more. Akiren DID go to the same high school as Makoto but the two were not close and due to Makoto being a hardass and him being a delinquent and he never felt comfortable around her. However due to his reputation in high school in addition to his closeness with Akechi, Makoto distrusts him and is on edge around him. (She does acknowledge that this is unfair but whatever.)

Let's go through the cases!

Case 1: Defendant is Ryuji, Victim is Kamoshida, Culprit could be either Mishima or Ann

A lot of canon carries over, but yeah, Akiren *was* friends with Ryuji in high school and knew that Kamoshida was a piece of work and they were only able to get him fired but not so much humiliated and shamed since there's no brainwashing in this AU. But yeah Kamoshida turns up dead and Ryuji is framed for it. Because it's the first case, I guess Makoto doesn't show up but Akechi does still closely assist and help out a lot even though Ryuji still hates his vibes. Akiren does solve things but he's incredibly frustrated by how things turn out while Akechi reassures him and pushes him to keep moving forward.

Case 2: Defendant is Yusuke, Victim is Madarame, "Culprit" is Madarame's mistress

Pretty normal case. Probably Makoto's introduction. Lots of tension between her and our protagonist-kun/s albeit for a multitude of reasons. The backstory for Yusuke btw is the same however Madarame actually dies of natural causes. The thing is while reaching the end of his life, Madarame is actually overcome with grief and guilt for the whole "letting Yusuke's mom fucking die and exploiting Yusuke himself for several years after the fact" thing so, in his will, he writes in that Yusuke will inherit everything. His mistress unsurprisingly isn't keen on the idea so she tries to frame Yusuke for murder. Understandably, Yusuke is pretty...conflicted and distraught to learn the truth so he has no idea how to regard Madarame from then on. That said, he was inspired enough by seeing Akiren passionately defend him that he wants to become a courtroom artist.

Case 3: Defendant is Akechi, Victim is Some Guy, Culprit is Kaneshiro

Makoto finally has an opportunity to charge the traitorous Akechi and she absolutely won't let it escape. Unless Akiren has something to say about it. Here's where all the tension explodes between them and Akiren gets really fired up and manages to give Makoto a piece of his mind in the meantime. Makoto is forced to back off when Kaneshiro gets pointed at and she's torn because yeah, Kaneshiro is a pretty guilty scumbag but even after Akechi is declared innocent, Makoto still confronts him and makes accusations to his face and here's where Akiren learns not just that Akechi worked with Sae but also about a mysterious conspiracy tied to the death of a certain politician (Shido) years ago that happened to coincide with Akechi's early retirement... Despite that, Akiren does choose to trust his boyfriend even as Akechi remarks that the truth can also be unpleasant and cruel. (Akiren asserts that he knows Akechi is someone he can trust. Akechi doesn't know how to react to that.)

Case 4: Defendant is Haru, Victim is Takakura, Culprit is Sugimura

Haru was also a classmate and Akiren did get along with her fine...and Makoto also got along with her and even kept in touch for years after. Because Haru is clearly being thrown under the bus, Makoto is under a lot of stress when taking her case and hates that there's so little she can do as a prosecutor to help out Haru. Akechi leads Akiren in to take her case and while Makoto wants to vehemently deny this, the fact is that no other attorney wants to take Haru's case and she doesn't have a lot of options. Haru does request getting to know Akiren first and she's pleased enough to trust him. This is the case where Akiren does get Makoto to admit her misgivings about the prosecution office (including her own sister) because frankly, she didn't trust any other prosecutor to take Haru's case and proceed to play incredibly dirty if it meant getting a guilty verdict even though Haru was innocent. It's revealed that this is also tied into conspiracies and it comes back to Shido, who Haru reveals was the man who put a hit on her father so many years ago...

Case 5: Uhhhhh Fuck.

Yeah so I don't know who the defendant should be. Maybe Sae???? I also don't know who the victim should be. MAYBE THE SVU DIRECTOR??!?!? AND MAAAAAYBE AKECHI IS THE CULPRIT??? MAYBE?!??!!?

This is where the full scope of the conspiracy is revealed in which Shido ruled the country with an iron fist and he had a nasty habit of making people who he no longer had any use for "disappear". Akechi is still his bastard son and still a trained assassin however, Akechi had watched Shido so closely that he learned a couple of things. Namely how to make evidence "disappear". So, sick with doing Shido's bidding, he killed Shido and destroyed any evidence connecting him to the crime so that it permanently remained a cold case. After doing so, he exposed a multitude of Shido's crimes (including the assassination of Okumura which, yeah, Akechi himself had carried out), and then using all this heinous, publicized corruption, Akechi publicly claimed that he was too disillusioned to continue working as a detective and "retired"...until he met Akiren by chance.

The characters btw are in their mid-twenties. And yeah, Wakaba probably was also killed by Shido but I dooooon't think I want Akechi to have assassinated her in part because he is...older. And he wasn't like, fifteen when he started his hitman career. I feel like it'd make stuff too muddled. Maybe Futaba fulfills a role similar to Maria in gaa2/dgs2? But like, with a dash of Ema Skye for funsies. Sorry, I'm not sure. Also not fully clear on how to incorporate Ann if that wasn't obvious. There are a lot of kinks to work out.

But I think this AU could be really good and a lot of fun. (I definitely don't have the talent to make it work, rip.)
