(btw this is all going off the theory I have that Yasmine and Moon had a secret fwb thing going on during S1, but Yasmine was way too concerned about her rep to tell anyone or come out as liking girls to anyone except Moon)

So the song Cherry Bomb by Julianna Joy popped up on my spotify one day, and I couldn't stop thinking about it in the context of Yasmine and Moon reconnecting at the end of S2/beginning of S3...but Yasmine has to contend with the fact that the girl she never had the courage to openly be with is in a happy relationship with another girl now. One who proudly shows Moon off and doesn't keep her a secret backseat hookup, no less!

Tbh I am just. Enamored with the idea of Piney Yasmine, and the frustration that comes with knowing how utterly she lost her chance. Moon and Piper are far from hiding their relationship, too, not caring in the least who knows they're together and holding hands everywhere they go. Just. Seeing that, and every time it's this painful reminder that you never had the courage to tell that beautiful girl you loved her when you had the opportunity??? While she hopefully, desperately, and unconditionally loved you, and wanted so badly to be more than your dirty secret???? OUGHHHH I am DEVOURING that angst :O The pain of realizing someone was perfect for you just a little too late, and the only one responsible for tanking your chances was you.

Anyways, I got uh. A bit carried away I wrote a whole ficlet thing to go with this ^^; Go read it under the cut!!!

I'm just imagining in the couple of weeks before school starts up again (pre S2 disaster party), Piper goes on a family trip. Yasmine gets back from France, having done a lot of self-reflection and re-evaluated her relationship with Moon.

All things considered...as betrayed as she felt when Moon sided with the losers and the freaks, Yasmine knows deep down that she can't lose her. She'd rather get another wedgie than admit it, of course, but Moon was--and still is--the best person in her life.

Her parents would reject the real Yasmine out of hand. If they knew she wasn't the perfect beautiful socialite they thought she was--at least not anymore--they wouldn't want anything to do with her.

Kyler and Brucks already don't, with her popularity gone. The other girls at the "rich girl" table won't answer her texts. And Sam, well...

She always preferred fucking Aisha's company, anyways. Come fall, she'll be back at the nerds' table.

So when Yasmine gets a text from Moon offering to let the beach party be water under the bridge--offering to be friends again--she isn't about to say no.

Hey Yas. I know we haven't talked in a while, but...I'm really sorry about how we left things. Can we hang out?

And so they do. They meet up at a cafe--an old favorite brunch place they used to always cut class to go to.

Yasmine learns Moon isn't with that blue-haired freak from the botched birthday party anymore. He turned out to be a douchebag.

She could've told Moon that from the jump, but whatever.

Moon is dating someone new now--a girl. Piper. Absolutely gorgeous, brazen and shameless in a way Yasmine can relate to.

Moon sure does seem to have a type.

They're tanning by the poolside, sipping cherry lemonade on the tail end of a surprisingly relaxed conversation, when Yasmine finds her eyes glued. Trailing over every smooth bronze curve of Moon's body. It's bringing back memories of her hands brushing over that skin, her fingers weaving through the brown hair splayed on the deck chair.

Moon is a beautiful tableau of serenity, watching clouds roll by through red-tinted, heart-shaped glasses.

Rose-colored. Literally.

It seems fitting, given the beaming, optimistic way Moon navigates life. The way she navigates Yasmine. For her, whatever remote possibility that tomorrow could be good negates any concerns of tomorrow being an utter shitshow. And even if it is...

Well. The misery doesn't seem to stick around.

She watched her best friend walk out of her life and her boyfriend become an unrepentant jerk who beat up her other friends over dojo Yelp reviews (which Yasmine had to agree was very stupid) and half the Valley get mixed up in some asinine, violent karate feud and still she came out of it all with the unapologetic hope that people would see sense and choose kindness. That she could help fix what was broken, both in her own relationships and others'.

It was unduly idealistic. Unquestionably naive. And yet...

There was something almost inspiring about it all. About how there was not one person Moon was willing to give up on and not one bridge that Moon believed was too burned to rebuild.

A comfortable silence has fallen (another oddity--Yasmine expected there to be enough tension between them to fill that entire swimming pool) when Yasmine finally speaks up.

"I don't know how you do it."

Moon turns, peering at her through those rosy glasses. Yasmine knows her well enough to know that there's a nearly-identical rosy sheen just under the bottom rims, coloring Moon's cheeks.

They bought the blush together. It seems like a lifetime ago now.

"How I do what?"

"Be so cheerful all the time." Yasmine looks away, studying the pool. "Be so, like...blithe about all this. We were pissed when we last saw each other, and you're just whatever about the whole thing now. Is it really that easy to let it all go?"

Moon pauses.

"Well...didn't you? You're here talking to me, and I don't think you're still mad."

"I was for a long while. I guess being away for the summer just...gave me some time to think." Yasmine sighs. "But you were stuck here, right in the middle of all this stupid karate drama, and you still want to be friends again, even after I..."

Even after I treated you like an accessory?

Yasmine can't bring herself to say it.

Either way, she doesn't seem like a person Moon would want back if she's trying to minimize the drama in her life.

"I don't know." Yasmine keeps her eyes on the rippling pool water. "I didn't think you'd come back. I didn't think you'd want me back, after like...you know. How I was."

Moon only laughs good-naturedly.

"We were best friends, Yas. We did everything together. Told each other everything. You think I don't know by now that there's more to you than that?"

Yasmine still can't meet her eyes.

"I hurt you, though. All you did was stick by me, and I left you behind the one time you wanted something for yourself."

Even if it was a stupid blue-haired prick.

It's still the most genuine she's been in a while. For weeks, Yasmine fought tooth and nail not to admit to herself that perhaps, in some theoretical manner of speaking, she'd been in the wrong.

That she'd wronged the only person she'd managed to give one tenth of a metric shit about in a long, long time.

"How do you just brush it all off like...like it doesn't matter anymore? How are you so certain that I'm...that I'm any different now?"

"You ordered my favorite at the cafe."

Yasmine freezes.

"You remembered I love almost croissants, and you bought me half a plate of them. And, well...don't take this the wrong way, but you did not used to be that considerate."

Yasmine's cheeks heat up.

"Sheesh. Can't a girl do nice shit for her friends sometimes?"

"Of course she can! But you used to be embarrassed to be openly kind like that. Now you're just..."

Moon seems to struggle to find the words.

"You're just nicer," she says finally.

Yasmine scoffs.

"I'm not nice. I'm a vapid bitch people tolerate sometimes because they can eye-fuck me when I'm not looking. And that's all I'm ever going to be. I've kinda made my peace with that."

Moon sighs in an almost pitying way. Not enough for Yasmine to snap at her, but enough to make the blonde bristle.

"People aren't static, Yas. Anyone can get better. Growing as a person...that's the whole nature of the human experience, right?"

Despite herself, Yasmine laughs.

"Okay, Gandhi."

"You want to know my real secret, though?"

She finally looks at Moon. The other girl's wearing a rare smirk, mischief glinting in those brown eyes.

Yasmine smirks back.

"Duh, Houdini. Like I wouldn't turn down an opportunity to be one of the privileged few a magician reveals their secret to."

Moon plucks off her sunglasses and reaches into her bag. What she pulls out glints golden in the bright afternoon.

She swaps out one pair of heart-shaped lenses for another, and Yasmine laughs.

"Of course. Mellow yellow."

"When everything looks like sunshine, it's hard to be too sad about anything," she says brightly.

Yasmine wishes it were that easy.

The afternoon rolls by, and they slip back into old patterns. Manicures, shopping, some Pretty Little Liars bingeing back at Moon's place. They're lounging on the couch just past dusk when Moon perks up that they should go for a night walk.

"I know a great park," she says. "It's up on a hill so you can see the city, but you can also kind of see the stars."

Yasmine scoffs. "What, are you crazy?! Do you want to get murdered?"

Moon only laughs.

"You're so dramatic, Yas. We live in Encino. It's like...the safest neighborhood there is."

And that's somehow all it takes for Yasmine to give in. There's a kind of allure to it, the idea of a stroll in the moonlight with a beautiful girl.

Maybe she can finally formulate the thoughts that have been tormenting her all afternoon.

It's a couple minutes away from Moon's house that Yasmine says sorry. Or, well...she does her best to.

The kisses of freshman and sophomore year started out accidental. They were both crossfaded the first time, sloppily dancing into Yasmine's guestroom in their attempts to "practice" before the Halloween dance. Before they knew it they were on the bed, tongues in each others' mouths.

That night could have been a moment of weakness. It could have stayed a moment of weakness. The problem is that they both liked it a little too much.

And so on it went, just out of sight of disapproving parents and peers until it escalated to more than make-out sessions.

Yasmine knows it was shitty, using her best friend as a secret hookup for almost 2 years and then turning around and publicly scoffing at the idea that she could ever like girls. Treating Moon like a minion in public and roaming every curve of her body as soon as they were away from prying eyes.

Now, breathing in cool night air and just on the cusp of a second chance, Yasmine's trying frantically to articulate anything of substance.

Moon's always looked soft, but in passing porch lamps and flashing car headlights, her pretty features seem even more delicate. She watches Yasmine with far more patience than Yasmine deserves, listening attentively to her fumbling explanation about why she acted like such a raging bitch for the better part of their friendship.

"It's all right." Moon squeezes Yasmine's hand, and heat tingles through her skin. "I remember how scared you were. You were trying to figure yourself out, and you were terrified that people would see the real Yasmine, and...hate her as much as you hated you."

That's a generous way of putting it.

That was one thing about Moon that didn't change. All this time, and she still gave you the benefit of the doubt. Even when you didn't deserve it.

Especially when you didn't.

It feels even nicer now, given the massive shithole that Yasmine's been slowly digging herself into since high school started. Whether she's the queen of the school or less than nothing, Moon treats her with the same unconditional kindness.

And it's a rare thing. She's always wondered if people were only really nice to her because of her social status, and now, with her social circle in shambles after one humiliation, she knows it's true.

But despite all that, Moon looked at what Yasmine had to offer and decided that underneath it all, there was still something worth her time. Yasmine can't fathom it.

The truth was that Yasmine loved the thrill of having control. Of being in charge. Even if that meant being cruel and backhanded and an utter liar.

It kept her on top, and it kept her from ridicule. It certainly kept the rest of the school from suspecting its two queen bees were screwing each other. It absolutely kept her parents from thinking their beautiful daughter, with her promising future in modeling or acting or what the fuck ever, had no interest whatsoever in the type of ab-laden, burly men her "type" of girl was supposed to be so besotted with.

But when she lost it all--and she lost Moon--she found the control isn't what she missed.

The night glides by, and Moon gets started chattering about some new sustainable, recycled brand of eyeshadow where half the profits went toward helping endangered duikers or Iraq war refugees or something like that. The more she talks, the more Yasmine finds she can't look away.

Moon's always been beautiful, but right now, bathed in the soft, golden glow of streetlights, she looks nothing short of divine.

Her cherry lipgloss is gleaming, luminescence just catching the sparkles in it. 2 years, and she's still wearing the same brand.

Yasmine remembers what it tastes like.

It tastes like summertime and pure, unfiltered elation and the thrill of refusing to play by the rules.

It tastes explosive, like fireworks.

And she misses it so badly that it feels like she's dissolving from the inside out.

But this is how it is now. All she can do is admire Moon from a respectful distance, thinking about what she used to have while Moon gives tastes of that cherry lipgloss to someone else.

Someone probably much better for her than Yasmine ever was. Someone who didn't fuck up her chances beyond repair.

It shouldn't eat at her as much as it does.

They end up lying on a narrow patch of grass under one of the park streetlights. It's a part of Moon's neighborhood Yasmine's never been to before, but something about the unfamiliarity makes it enticing.

Everything about that grass strip is still fresh and new--their own private world, not yet soiled by pain and drama and cruelty. A pocket universe where Yasmine hasn't made her shitty-ass bed yet. A place where she can get a fresh start. Treat Moon like she deserves.

Moon talks about astrology. Which planets are rising, which are falling, which are in retrograde, all that. The further into it she gets, the less Yasmine can follow.

Her gaze drifts down to her feet as Moon's finger flicks all over the sky, chattering so fast that the circuits of Yasmine's mind are already starting to exhaust themselves trying to keep up.

Yasmine doesn't stop her. Moon's voice pours over her like a lotion, sinking into her skin and cleansing every pore and leaving her fortified and rejuvenated like nothing else can.

It's one of the few things in the world that can still relax Yasmine completely.

Yasmine wonders sometimes if star signs are all a load of bogus. Nothing but personality traits assigned to people at random so they could feel special about something completely arbitrary.

But the way Moon's entire being shines when she rambles about it, the way she speaks with the kind of heart and certainty and conviction that Yasmine rarely has about anything...

She can almost buy it.

"Look, there's Gemini!" Moon pipes up after a while. "That's you!"

She laughs, shaking her head. How Moon is managing to find any stars in the hazy, smog-filled LA night, let alone an entire constellation, is beyond her.

Still, it feels strangely fitting that Moon should stumble on her star sign tonight. The night they really started to mend things.

Like destiny, in a way. Something that tied them together on a cosmic level. Something indicating they were meant to be here tonight, together, lying in a puddle of light and imagining the infinity of a boundless sky.

And Yasmine has to admit. She's strangely touched that Moon still remembers where Gemini is.

But she doesn't say any of that sappy shit. She only scoffs.

"Yeah, checks out I'd be the two-faced one."

Moon pauses.

"You know...I was pretty two-faced, too. But that doesn't mean we have to stay that way, right?"

That's a lie. Moon was nowhere near as bad as her, nastiness paling in comparison to the queen bee's.

Because Moon was a follower. She did as Yasmine said and didn't question it. Well...until she did.

But it wasn't fair to hold her accountable when she was only trying to be a good friend. The best friend Yasmine could want.

The best screw Yasmine could want.

"You didn't do anything wrong. You didn't fuck over Sam like I did."

She supposes that's also a lie. Being complacent might be just as bad, standing back and letting Yasmine shoot to kill with poisonous words.

"That wasn't all our fault. We didn't know Kyler was lying to us."

Perhaps they should have suspected. Kyler wasn't exactly the paragon of virtue.

Yasmine had known that from the jump. Moon probably had, too.

"No, yeah, you're right. We couldn't have known we were being manipulated."

Yasmine may as well keep the chain of self-vindicating lies going. Maybe what they need to feel better about the people they were is a little sugarcoating and a lot of bullshitting.

Or maybe Yasmine should tell the truth for once in her fucking life.

"I don't know, I just...I feel like I'm genuinely kind of a crap person. I get drunk off this power and I act like a bitch and I somehow hurt the only people I actually give a shit about. And people hit the road as soon as I start being more than hot eye candy. Because...that's all they care about. And maybe that's the only part of me that...that doesn't kind of suck. Maybe people are right about me."

"Yas."

Yasmine turns. Moon is lying on her side now, gazing at her with those big brown doe eyes with everything in them so alarmingly exposed and so alarmingly vulnerable.

All of Moon's fondness and adoration and utter devotion, laid completely bare.

And it occurs to her that Moon is at her mercy again. The walls she finally managed to put up at the beach party are crumbling away, leaving behind the same Moon who was gone as fuck for Yasmine for 2 years.

She could shred her, Yasmine realizes. She could take the trust they've been piecing back together all day and throw it to the wolves, shattering Moon just like she did on that phone call after that ghastly failed birthday party. Moon is offering herself up to Yasmine again, and Yasmine could shank that offer right down the middle. Mock her ex best friend for believing even for a moment that she could forgive Moon for telling her off and siding with the freaks who ruined her in front of the entire school.

She could smash Moon's heart all over again. Start a cycle of her destroying the other girl over and over, waiting for Moon to come crawling back before rinsing and repeating. If she wanted.

It might make her feel strong. Invincible. In control. Fill her with the satisfaction of having someone so impossibly obsessed with her that they can never truly leave, no matter how much they try.

But all of that just seems...old hat. Lifeless. Mind-numbingly boring.

Of course Yasmine could play out the exact same story the same way with the same person. But repeating couldn't sound more dull when there's something so gripping about unpredictability.

And that's where she and Moon have found themselves--a strange kind of mania where they truly don't know what's coming next, but they do know they've been drawn back together. For better or for worse.

Things can't be like they once were. Not really. Moon's heart belongs to someone else now, and is protected somewhere Yasmine can't jerk it around. She's not the same person Yasmine spent her weekends getting high with last year.

She's grown, and Yasmine has no idea how many of Moon's buttons she can still press. How much she can still glow with blinding radiance in the eyes of this brand new person.

But from the way Moon still looks at her...

The doting isn't gone. It's just different now.

Yasmine doesn't know what will come of it. What will come of the embers that still burn in her own chest.

And that's why whatever's happening tonight is not something Yasmine tries to stop. Their new story is exhilarating in a way that keeps her along for the ride, strapped in tight.

"You're a good person, Yas. I know you are." Moon scoots toward her. "I can feel it in my Ajna. You just...need to get in touch with your aura. Who you really want to be. That'll make everything better."

Ah. So they were back to lying.

Yasmine bites her lip. "You think?"

She's wrong.

She needed to stop making everything sound so simple when there was no possible way it could be.

"You've made a few mistakes, but...who hasn't?"

Moon shrugs. Their faces are inches apart now.

"We're still young," she says softly. "We're all still figuring out who we are. But we've got all the time in the world, and it's okay if there're some bumps along the way."

"But what if I keep looking at myself..." Yasmine swallows. "And I don't like what I find? What if no one else does, either?"

"Hey. You're a good person, Yasmine Pyne." Moon is close enough that she can probably hear Yasmine's heart hammering. "And I'll keep telling you until you believe me."

And then she feels sticky cherry lipgloss pressing against her forehead. Yasmine's head spins, sending her floating into some kind of indeterminable ether.

Nothing seems solid anymore. The world is ablaze with color and sound and explosions and sensations, but she's careening through space with wind rushing by her and there's nothing she can hold onto.

What a fool she was, thinking she could come out here and get Moon wrapped around her finger again without accounting for her fingers doing some wrapping of their own.

It's what Yasmine has always known, but would never say aloud. She has a weakness for the strange girl who always smells of wildflowers, incense, silk scarves, and cherry lipgloss.

Yasmine's hand slides around Moon's wrist, trying to steady herself. As she pulls herself from out from a tidal wave of emotions, her buzzing thoughts all converge into one.

Is she thinking about Piper right now?

And maybe it's selfish, but...

Yasmine has to wonder if there's some way of persuading Moon to think about her instead.

Anyways making a red and yellow-themed moodboard for these two was actually super fun :O Like the color combination suits them so well??? Moon has this pleasant, sunny energy that pairs really well with yellow, and Yasmine has this kind of passionate, fiery, sassy, hyperfemme vibe (but in kind of a femme fatale way?) that is extremely red-coded. Which is ironic, because Yasmine tends to wear more yellow (especially in S1) and Moon wears a lot of reds and dark oranges. Her go-to nail polish color is actually bright red! So apparently they like wearing each other's theme colors <3 <3 <3 Now fellas is it GAY--

timeline anon back again! Omg I feel the same the whole of 2×06 I was watching it thinking. That's just John mulaney and Sarah Paulton. What're they doing here? It was wacky

I think you're right about the writers retconning or straight up forgetting their own details lol..but my timeline idea is so rough it's basically. Carmy moves out at 19 or 20, goes to New York or somewhere first for a few years -> (but not the s1 nightmare New York stuff) -> goes to Copenhagen -> 2×06 Christmas Dinner is the same year as copenhagen (w luca! I did really like that detail hehe. Amazed Carmy had any friends 💀) -> afterwards he dives back to New York to escape his family and works at the scary Chef Joel place all the way up until Mikeys death and then he returns to The Beef. Hm. Sort of a rough mess but that's the way it makes sense in my head

it honestly took me out of it a little bit. i don't know sarah but whenever john was on screen i was like... huh.. what.. but i was still too confused by the chaos to really care and it still was an a+ ep

agree with carmy leaving around that age-- i think he does go to culinary school during that time (he's worked at the bear for awhile so he would be considered a good option, might be able to get scholarship bc of that? im so sorry to the ppl who actually work in kitchens i feel like an academic trying to talk abt something on my high horse and getting all the details wrong) but with his like emphasis on learning fundamentals in kitchens it makes sense.

tbh i imagine w luca its like. linkedin friends but it counts for carmy he needs a W wherever he can get lol. and it really was nice to hear people did have good impressions of carmy like.. i wish he could've heard that too but i guess it would've also fed into his idea that work is the only way he can get any value like. ugh nasty boy. i kind of like that he ended up being a bit more nasty this season but i think it's bc i like unlikeable protags in small doses

WHAT I REALLY wonder is how they're going to handle s3-- i think i'd actually be happy for it to end at s3 bc i'm terrified of shows generally losing the plot and main character ideas as the show goes on. i liked s2 but in my brain i'm still treating s1 as main canon and s2 a possibility of what might've happened because of the Fear.

my wants for carmy are for him to actually get more into therapy, but i doubt that's going to happen before he has a final breakdown that finally gets him to finally realize he can't live like this. one interesting detail that i don't think will come up in the show is that noma is actually closing due to similar issues that the bear brings up-- if they bring it up i think it'll be interesting but at the same time i want carmy to actually break down and not too worked up over minor interesting facts

listen i can't talk enough about how desperate i am to hear tim/kristen and oliver and ryan talk about buddie when it goes canon like i NEED to know when they decided to go there, how long it's been in the works, what they think about it, everything.

at this point i am 99.99998% sure they're Really going there like bestie buck's LITERALLY in the room that to me feels like more Proof of canon buddie than anything else, the will included, bc like obviously eddie would trust buck with christopher's life and safety and happiness like duh we've known this since the tsunami arc. the will is a Bonkers thing to do but eddie's a dramatic lil weirdo so like, it would be so strange for the show to let us know about this will thing (bc really. they didn't have to. eddie was never going to die, the will could have gone unmentioned forever, eddie could have talked buck down in a different way if they wanted us to believe buddie are #bros #besties) and then Not go there but there's still enough wiggle room to be like, okay, maybe this is...idk next level bestie goals.

but for eddie to trust buck with HIMSELF? that's. that's unreal tbh mlakfs like THAT'S the most damning piece of buddie canon evidence i think, so far at least. and you know obviously it's possible we're all just clowns yada yada whatever i don't really care bc i'm having a blast regardless BUT at this point? i really don't know how they could possibly build up anything that would even come close to comparing. ESPECIALLY on eddie's side of things. to go from ana, where he was actively having panic attacks and brushing it off and sticking it out and Hiding everything, to breaking down like that in front of buck in ONE season? there's no way they could ever build up a love interest for eddie that could compare. (i don't think they could for buck either, lucy included, but for the purposes of The Scene i'm thinking more about eddie)

which, anyway, sorry for THAT lil spiel what i mean to say is: i am pretty much almost 100% positive it's going there (i say this but i also have a meltdown like every 12 hours where i just laugh hysterically alone in my room thinking about the possibility of it like i believe in it but also i won't be able to process it until i'm like 90 years old) and i am DESPERATE to know when they started intentionally planning for it. because i tend to agree that s3 and the tsunami arc is when something Shifted but there IS so much in s2 that is. damning. not only the elf and the maggot call but all of stuck, eddie's gay lil speech to his wife, etc etc. so...was that just a happy accident...were they keeping the possibility open when jlh imprinted on kenny and they say the reaction to 2x01? tim, please come into my office i am so curious

Do you think that the Peneloise break up could finally give us Francesca and Eloise in action? I can't believe how she's not shown to be close to at least one sibling. And I heard that in the books it was Eloise who she was the closest with. This could finally be the perfect opportunity to let her shine. What is your theory about this?

Ohmygod anon you read my mind - this is exactly what I want in S3!! Thank you for this ask - it's a much needed break from all the Pelican and racial thinkpieces. Let's get into some S3 headcanons with these two!

Before I do the HCs, you're absolutely right that Frannie and Eloise are the closest in the books because they are Irish twins! They have the same birthday a year apart. They also look scarily alike in the books that in TDAI Simon actually keeps mixing up the two at the Bridgerton family dinner. It was hilarious. It makes sense with their age and also being witty in their own ways that they are close. I've always found it funny that the most outspoken Bridgerton and the quietly witty one were the closest in the books.

The lack of Frannie in the show is really sad because along with Kate, she's my favourite character and fave Bridgerton sibling - like yes I adore Anthony but mainly because I relate to him shshhs whereas Frannie truly is the BEST Bridgerton imo.

She deserves to shine along with her siblings, I just hope Bridgerton and Lockwood & Co. Are a bit more accomdating of Ruby for S3's filming. She was supposed to have a bigger arc and storyline in S2 but she got cast and started filming for Lockwood & Co. Tbh I was a little sad we missed out on a Frannie story (God knows it would have been better than Cousin Jack's storyline 🙄) but I'm just happy Ruby is busy and getting booked! Especially now as the lead in L&C.

Anyways onto the S3 headcanons/predictions under the cut because Frannie deserves more screentime and Eloise needs better friends next season!

- Eloise storms in Frannie's room once she's back from her crime ring in Bath (I still cannot believe they didn't even bother to give Frannie an in-show excuse this season 😭 so we'll maintain she was running her crime ring in Bath.) and immediately tells her about LW because if anyone can keep shit to themselves it's Frannie.

- Frannie is just like "I know."

Eloise goes 👁👄👁 "Why didn't you tell me?!"

"You're smart El I thought you'd figure it out."

[Btw we were robbed of Fran and El looking for LW in S1 and then halfway through Frannie figures it out and keeps looking at Pen pointedly while El is being a total dumbass about the signs right in front of her.]

- They basically bicker for a bit about Fran not telling her and El being smarter than that but having Pen as a blindspot. Also I feel like while they essentially have no connection, Fran did write to Marina a couple times to check in on her because she's just so lovely like that.

- Fran totally would have exposed Pen as LW once the Marina thing happened if she wasn't so busy with her crime ring sigh. She's also just really glad that El finally saw sense and got away from Pen.

- It was hard watching the sister you're closest to be best friends with an insipid wallflower who relished in ruining people's lives and reputations.

- The Pen of it all aside, Fran will be debuting this season and while Fran has seen both her sisters go through their debuts and knows how she'll handle herself, with grace and class as always, she welcomes the advice from Daph and El. Kate also gives her tips on how to avoid men who make her uncomfortable and to dress down rude ones.

- El is the first person she goes to when she meets the Stirlings. She gushes about John and then at the next ball El accidentally points out Michael, "Oh dear, he is gorgeous. You picked well, Fran." Ehehhe the foreshadowing of it all

- Fran can't do anything else but blush and be flustered because "El, that's John's cousin."

"Oh, my mistake." Then they go to formally introduce El to the cousins.

Stellar Additions from Trivia @hptriviachamp :

- All of that is a B/C plot of course and Bridgerton really needs to start using the sideplots to prop and support the main plot because CAN YOU IMAGINE EL AND FRAN TRYING TO GET BENOPHIE TGT??

- Like of course Francesca Bridgerton, the smartest sibling, figures out immediately that Sophie is the Lady in Silver and keeps dropping hints for Ben to realise it

- Eventually one by one everyone in the family figures it out and they all stand by watching in amusement at Ben's face blindness.

- El and Fran with their hints and shenanigans to leave Benophie in rooms alone together. Them recruiting Kate too who ends up becoming Sophie's bestie and helping her out.

- S3 I'm begging you to give me the El, Fran, Sophie and Kate fiercesome four sisters/sisters-in-law. El needs better women and friends in her life as do the other women and also more screentime for all! And especially our main couple next season Beneophie!!

I know it’s the writers fault, and I feel like this season rio is a different person than seasons 1,2 and even 3. But if I ignore my opinions on the writers and the odd choices they’ve made for him, and just watch the show as a normal viewer, rio is fucking pissing me off. Like all he had to do was tell Beth she was being followed. He made the mess. And he’s such a dick. Like at this point kill her or don’t. But this whole “Rio can’t hurt Beth/rio has love for her/brio love triangle” thing? Like nah I’m not seeing it. He’s being literally stupid for no reason.

i'm v sorry he's pissing you off and you’re super entitled to feel that way! but tbh, personally i don't totally agree that he's different or that he's being stupid for no reason (though, if you're not buying into the idea that he's genuinely into beth than yeah, i can v much see why you would feel that way, i think that's a p significant puzzle piece).

imo, the primary difference between the rio of s4 and the rio of previous seasons isn't in the character, but how much more context/insight/backstory we're getting for him. we’ve seen bits and pieces before, but they’ve been very sporadic (something that’s been a p consistent complaint since i joined the fandom) and i think s4 has really dug into shading rio’s character and backstory in with much more detail and depth than we’ve seen so far. i also think the show's p steadily developed the idea that he has some degree of genuine feeling for beth (and that they make him act rashly and stupidly) along the same pace.

putting the rest of this below the cut bc it got long and should you continue, do so with the caveat that i’m not here to change anyone’s mind, i’m just breaking down why i disagree.

in s1, rio was a p one-dimensional character (like, on paper he's basically a walking first page google search result for "mexican gang banger stereotypes") and it's a testament to how much manny brought to his performance and the way he sparks with his scene partners (particularly christina and jim) that he came across so engagingly and elevated the character far enough that people so easily overlook that. over the course of s2, they peeled back the curtain a little bit and rounded him out more in ways that (imo and ymmv) really efficiently counteracted that stereotypical portrayal like introducing marcus, being softer with beth, and the different faceted glimpses of him we saw through his personal and business spaces (the club, his loft and bar). in terms of his feelings, while a lot of the softness with beth was him working an angle, we still caught glimpses that hinted at something real developing in his reactions to her that either served no purpose for keeping her in line (the way the camera lingered on his face falling in 209 after beth had turned away and couldn't see him) or, most significantly imo, doing things for her that actively undermined his authority (retrieving!!!!!!!! the!!!!!!!!!! dubby!!!!!!!!!!!!).

and speaking of 209, we also saw him react in increasingly more irrational and outlandish ways (ignoring her calls/texts about the fbi closing in on a business he’s somewhat tied up in, sending her body parts in the mail, kidnapping her) in reaction to beth quitting him, underscoring both the idea that 209 (and beth) meant something to him and that he gets real dramatic and questionably intelligent when he’s in his feelings.

there's nothing to really say any of this was a swerve from s1 bc s1 left p much everything on the table. s3 built that out a bit more both in terms of what we know about him (thinking specifically of fitz's rundown of what he gets up to when beth's not around) and his feelings for beth (how he handled the wake of 213 was, uh, illuminating and it’s been made even more illuminating with the context s4 added with nick’s involvement in rio’s business and the fact that nick knew nothing about lucy).

s4, to me, is building on all of that (see the above comment about the new layer of context to lucy and repeat, for one). we’ve met his family (who they’ve already hinted he’s very close to through the photos in his loft), we’ve found out how he got involved in crime in the first place (and i've seen criticism of the tragedy aspect of it and how that disproportionately applies to characters of color and that’s super valid, though i do think there’d also be a lot of valid criticism if they’d gone the opposite route and written rio as knowingly and gleefully deciding to be a criminal. the show kind of put itself in an impossible position there, but that’s something that goes back to s1 and the entire concept of his character. i’m not saying there isn’t a nuanced way to tell this story but, i don’t think anyone in the fandom would argue the gg team doesn’t often do so well with narrowly threaded needles, hahaha), and we’ve also seen that rio’s got some kind of big, complicated feelings for beth that result in him making moves and choices that both are and aren’t in his best interest/at her expense and the dichotomy is sloppy bc, as established, those kinds of feelings make rio sloppy.

honestly, i think one of the biggest reasons rio’s deepening characterization is so controversial is bc by holding off for so long (a choice that i admire conceptually from a storytelling angle—keeping him shrouded in mystery keeps the audience firmly rooted in the girls’ POVs which is where they want us to be—but v understand how it hasn’t worked for a lot of people and do think they’ve fumbled it at a couple of key steps), it allowed people to sort of choose their own rio and now that the show’s committing to their vision, it’s demolishing a lot of people’s personal versions and that sucks! if the show ever canonically says rio and mick haven’t been friends since they were kids, i, for one, am going to elect to ignore it bc FALSE!!!!!! but this phenomenon is also, you know, part of watching tv. someone else writes it, you ultimately have no say in it, you can really only decide for yourself when it no longer sparks joy enough that it’s a dealbreaker and you walk.

BUT yeah, i guess to wrap it all up, i do think s4 rio tracks with and has been directly built on the rios that have come before, but also think that accepting that he has big messy feelings for beth is a crucial part in understanding the choices he’s making, and if that’s not working for you, i don’t see this trajectory ultimately being v satisfying bc uh, yeah, i think it’s only going to get exponentially messier as we go.

I started watching rick and morty in April and waiting those couple of months for season 5 was bad enough but now I have to wait for at least a year?? After that finale, I'm just itching to watch the next season. Do you have any hopes/predictions for the future seasons?

Oh no!! Thats sucks anon, ;-;. I started watching back when s2 was still airing lol (the break between s2 and s3 was definitely the worst... not only was it the most intense cliffhanger out of all the seasons.... 2 years, dear anon... 2 years ;-;)

Waiting for the next season of ANYTHING always sucks tbh. Hopefully the fics and fanart will tide us over till then :"D

Hopes and predictions huh? Well, this is kind of lame, but uh- I hope Mr Poopybutthole gets back into a better place :"D. I've grown attatched to him and his life after all those post-credits scenes, what can I say?

Ok seriously, though. Well, the little guy who stole the show, Eyepatch Morty, I'd like to see more of him! Whether it be a glimpse into what he's doing, or whether he comes back For Real^TM. I don't mind if this is where his book closes (for us, anyway, it's just beginning for him) though! I was pretty satisfied with how he went out (all those RaMs tho ;-; RIP). I love how he turned out to be not quite so "evil" after all. I do wonder about where he went, what he'll do now. Imagine if we all expect him to go on crazy sci-fi adventures of his own, and he just... settles down in a nice little village with a little cottage and a flower garden lol. Not that I'd blame him after all that ;-;

I have to wonder though, if this means we'll get to see /actual/ alternate versions of the characters. Like a super scientist Beth, or Summer, or Jerry, or even Diane! I doubt it tho lol, but I wonder...

Ooh, for the next season specifically, I'd LOVE to see Rick and Morty getting home. I just think it'd be super interesting for it to be a full-series adventure. Individual episodes with their own plots and senarios, but with an overarching goal. I don't think the show has done that before, so it'd be interesting to see. The portal gun has been used as an easy get-out for the whole series, and episodes where it can be found usually take place on their home Earth (or at least the same dimensions), it'd be interesting to see how they navigate that problem. Although, knowing Rick, he'll have probably found them a way back by the end of the first episode lol. ;-;

We've definitely seen a MAJOR shift in the relationship between our RaM, and I'm excited to see how that goes!! We've been seeing a slow change in their relationship over the course of the series, but this is like *woah*. It feels like two puzzle pieces finally slotting into place. Of course, I don't think it'll be quite so clean haha, I'm sure we'll see the challenges and conflicts that arise with the two becoming a proper partnership.

Honestly, other than that? I can't think of anything I particularly want to see or would expect upcoming! Maybe some more Beth + Summer action haha. (Also I need another Rick and Jerry episode, I love their dynamic lol). I guess I'm just excited to see what tropes and concepts (turned on their head lol) the writers have in store.

DID theory part 3: St novels/comics/spotify list analyses

*read part 2 of DID theory-first! You’ll be lost otherwise, seriously XD. First, I’ll say -I find the ST comics/ books as canon as the st movie inspirations . I don’t consider the books/comics ‘literal canon’ (cause they contradict the show ( like Max and billy meeting a year before s2 in runaway max - but meeting as little kids in s3, or El’s age being wrong in suspicious minds, in the d&D comic Will’s friends instead of him /Jonathan building castle byers, etc) .

So I think we shouldn’t take it literally - but more like the st movie lists - filled with foreshadowing/symbolism and other eastereggs (That the Duffers may have told them to add). So here’s some more (possible) alter / DID hints...

‘Suspicious minds’ novel

- Brenner equates k*lling rabbits to h*rting kids. And he’ll hurt (kid) Kali (the bunny in the analogy) if Terry tries running away from him . I wonder if Lonnie used a similar threat against jonathan? Jon could be giving only a partial truth to why he cried for a week (about the bunny story)?

-Kali “hops” like a bunny then talks about tigers obsessively (linking her to rabbits/tigers similar to the other alters/Will/Lonnie). Terry also imagines tigers and kali says to Alice they can all be tigers together.

- one of the only male psychic experiments (who can see the future) is gay

- Terry is into lord of the rings, like Will. Has her and her boyfriend dress as sam & frodo (m/m ship). Terry calls her and her friends “the fellowship”.

-when Terry/Alice were injected with d**gs -they hallucinated rainbows.yikes.

- Alice (like Lonnie) is a car mechanic. She can see the future like Will the wise and says “monsters of course my mind has them as long as they stayed in there, everything would be alright? Wouldn’t it?” (in her visions she saw the demogorgan).

(completed) graphic ST novels (by Jody Hozer) so far (+ other st comics).

*Jody Hozer writes all the graphic novels (every novel is 4 chapters each) - the will byers comic, number 6 comic , into the fire comic, and at the moment she’s writing the d&d series and the summer camp series (which isn’t done yet). Then there’s the occasional 1 chapter st comics not written by her.

- Number 6 has (the ability to foresee the future like Will the wise/Alice) and has an ab*sive dad.

When having a nightmare of the demogorgan ...she says as she wakes up “screw you dad” (another hint the demogrgan -aka in d&d means ‘deep father’ ...is Lonnie).

- when number 6 and others run they say they’re’ “rabbiting”(which yes technically makes sense but I found such an uncommon phrase odd.)

- The (summer camp and d&d graphic novels aren’t completed yet) but they establish d&d creatures are based off real life people the boys don’t like in real life. Or that d&d is used as an outlet to explain true events from their pasts -but they just give the true stories a d&d fantasy slant.

- Which brings me to the halloween oneshot(not by Hozer),taking place before s1. Will tells a scary story told to him by Jonathan, and originally told to him by Lonnie. Says the boys have to keep it a secret cause it was something he was never supposed to tell to anyone. Mike says he has to finish the story he started. It’s about a “ch*lld-eater” monster first attacking a boy near the quarry (like where Will was found) and attacking kids in a library (where Will was also found in s1).When the child sees the sheriff she bangs on the library door begging for help-he ignores her , walks away, and tells the other cops to never speak of what they saw as she screams for help. Because the previous sheriff was in kahoots with the monster. It def had some ... uh questionable imagery too 0_0

The vine in the mouth is also like the one in Will’s mouth (when Joyce found him in the library).And of course Dustin asks whether or not something like that could be covered up.

- In the “bully comic” (about troy) also not by Jody. We focus on Troy and his ab*sive dad (who encourages him to fight/ditch his best friend). The dad has a drinking problem (gets fired), calls Troy a “mess” , pushes him, and constantly encourages Troy to be vi*lent/macho. He pretty much tries sabotaging the relationship Troy has with his friend (which I could see Lonnie doing in the future with byler).The dad/troy is framed similarly to when Billy gives Max a ride home- after both ab*sers give bad advice saying not to hang out with their friend (after witnessing them fight in the school parking lot). Dad also laughs about almost k*lling a squirrel (a trait we see troy mimic)- and we see El feel guilty about k*lling a squirrel in s2. At the end of the comic- Troy (like Will) after making up with his bff james- moves leaving his best friend behind.

- (into the fire) Twins: (one was normal with no powers living in the real world and the twin with fire powers is trapped in a dark sunless “cold” world styled like a psych facility/medieval fantasy) . pics in link.She hated her reflection cause it reminded her of being betrayed by her normal non powered twin who left her behind in the ‘cold’ place. She’d call herself a ‘hunter’ who would defend herself and attack others to never be hurt again. Her powers being unleashed were described like opening “a door.” And she loves her twin deep down and just wants friends . And fire twin goes to the “other side” to reunite with her reflection and find happiness in the real world. *also there’s sunflower/bunny symbols which she lights on fire-which can relate back to Will/Terry/Lonnie etc. The twins = Will & Will the wise (mf)

Mirrors also connect to Will and Will the wise via the canon spotify playlists too.

(*st ‘into the fire’ comic. the fire powered twin’s thoughts echo the song)

*I think this foreshadows the later plot points of mf (will the wise ) and Will interacting via mirrors. The fire-wielding twin and the non powered twin had a lot of mirror imagery. Including the fire powered twin (Who denies reality/and imagines herself in a fantasy world) punching her reflection because it reminds her of her non-powered twin. Here’s some cover art from the novels showing how much they emphasize mirrors.

*And in s4 movies Black swan - “the black and white swan twins (two halves of the same person-Nina)” had creepy mirror imagery. In long kiss goodnight the women with DID talks to her “ (supposed)dark 1/2″ via a mirror (in a dream). in ‘the visit’ the teen girl who’s dad abandoned her when young- refuses to look in the mirror (and it’s never explained why she hates her reflection). So yes I think we’ll see this in s4 or 5. We already see the mf take on the appearance of Billy when talking to him.

- Will in “zombie boy” comic is afraid he’s a monster.

also lets appreciate the lil byler moment of Mike and Will being the only zombies and mike comforting him. honestly , though, the characters were pretty out of character for most of this 1 ch comic (until the end) tbh.

- in the “d&d comic” mf is (possibly) described as a “protector” (aka like how i said the mf is probably a perpetrator alter- which are misguided protectors).

*update now that it’s finished... hinting Will created everything subconsciously.

‘Runaway Max’ novel (before s3)

(I didn’t get time to read this book unlike ‘suspicious minds’ -so can’t show screen shots of everything others talked about. May read it eventually)

-Max compares Billy to ‘her monster’ and a ‘shadow’ that will attack anyone that comes close (mf parallel).

- Dart k*lled a cat, El’s papa tried to force her to k*ll a cat. And Billy when seeing a d*ad cat lights it on fire for a “viking funeral”. A connection to WW (who has fire powers) and El & dart.

-Max and Billy both are into cars and bond over fixing them (similar to Lonnie’s interest in fixing up cars). And since Lonnie tried to brag to Jonathan about fixing a car up and Will is into tech it wouldn’t be a stretch that Lonnie and Will were into fixing cars together (like Max/billy who would hang out at a autoshop in Cali) . Similar to Will ,max says hanging with Billy wasn’t always so bad- which made things more confusing to her.

- Max compares Billy being beat up by Neil: to ‘punching a pocket of a baseball glove’. This is interesting since this book was pre-s3 which was when they established the connection of billy and his dad to baseball (similar to s1 saying Lonnie taught Will baseball).

-Billy’s friend is a nice ‘music snob’ . He tries distracting Max with music while Billy is burning the cat. Which reminds me of Jonathan trying to distract Will from their parents fighting in the next room-with music

- Max’s bio dad is a criminal who takes her to shady bars, and Max fears he’d ‘get bored of her’. Max also ran away from her mom to her dad’s 2x.Which reminds me of Jonathan thinking Will ran to Lonnie’s in s1.

-Max mentions how Billy misses his friends after moving out of Cali. And he starts acting even worse-after the move. Which will probably be the case for Will (at least a bit) when moving to California.

-Billy tells Max Neil isn’t his ‘real dad’ either because Neil can’t be a father to anyone.

-Billy also tells Max who (at the time ) is 12 years old not to act “easy” and breaks her best friend’s (Nate’s) arm over someone joking he was Max’s boyfriend and also cause Nate tried to get in between Billy bullying Max. Eventually all her Cali friends ditch her cause they’re afraid of Billy.And Ugh- why could I see Lonnie doing something like this in the future with Will/his new friends.

- Creepily Max says Billy doesn’t fool around with her like other girls not because of her age or being family. But cause she wasn’t ‘attractive’. This whole excerpt gave me the heeby jeebies,on so many levels, honestly. Almost like he’s jealous- and controlling her cause he doesn’t want Max to have any love interests. Maybe i’m just missing the context? But ugh... excerpt:

Will byers secret Files

I think it’s more foreshadowing for future seasons though- cult/supposed ritual k*llings, people being wrongly blamed for those crimes-like the hellfire club , most likely. (similar to the guy number 3 in the number 6 comic) saint john in the novel also has the same brain control powers as 3- similar to the mf. .” When a blackout plunges the boroughs into chaos, Hopper must escape the the mobs in the streets to make sure his family is safe and stop Saint John from fulfilling his prophecy.” I already talked about here- how the next few seasons would start having more religious symbolism/a future apocalypse (based on what we’ve seen in the show/s4 movies). Although, i think there’s quite a few differences between (the novel’s) saint john and Will the wise. Hopper is also a star wars nerd like the boys (alter hint)

Just want to say I love your blog. Your TUA content is lovely and I can't say what a breath of fresh air it is to find another Luther champion. The fandoms treatment of him, istg, some of the most ludacris nonsense I've ever had to read. Especially love how you point out he's ALWAYS been so sweet and selfless when it comes to Allison and her personal happiness. Anyway I saw you say you seem confident alluther will actually happen. I sure hope so, but why do you figure? The antis are so loud.

Awwwww, thank you anon, you’re so sweet! Yeah, this blog is on 24/7 loving Luther lockdown! I feel like the antis are easing up a little bit after S2 aired because most of Luther’s scenes were used as comedic relief and the faves he was clashing with (Diego and Vanya) seem to have a better relationship with him now, so it’s not as bad anymore, but I have to admit I never ever go into the main tag so I can’t be 100% sure.

Maybe you should try looking through the ‘Luther Protection Squad’ tag to find some more like-minded people? I swear there are more of us out there!

But to come to the Alluther question:

I know that the antis are loud and I’ve noticed that most of them have counted S2 as a win for them, talking about how Allison ‘moved on’ and how Alluther won’t happen but I disagree (and I will now launch into a rambly post about why lmao).

WARNING: CONTAINS S2 SALT. PROCEED WITH CAUTION

All of this is based on the assumption though that they will be somewhat consistent in their writing regarding Alluther and S2 taught me that that isn’t very likely, so maybe I’m completely wrong and Alluther will never ever be mentioned in S3, but based on what happened so far, I could see them as an endgame couple.

I mean in S1 they were a pretty big plot point so I don’t think I have to say anything about that but even though the Alluther scenes have been toned down in S2 they were there.

Let’s see what antis would say about why Alluther won’t happen:

Allison is married

And? Allison has been married before and still mentioned comparing every man she ever loved/dated to Luther. Allison has been married and she has had a kid with another guy and still Alluther was going strong.

Not to mention that the end of this season has made it very clear we won’t see Raymond again.

Raymond (and Sissy) are temporary love interests for this particular season and both of them cannot leave their timeline without majorly fucking things up - at least according to Five, but the whole timetravel rules can change at the drop of a hat - but more importantly, both of them had a talk with their respective lovers about wanting to stay in their timeline.

So unless Allison will return to the 60s (which doesn’t seem likely tbh), Raymond is gone for good.

Raymond was her true love tho! Like Klave!

I don’t think antis actually word it like this but I’ve noticed how all of them hopped onto the Almond train immediately and keep gushing about how good and cute they are and that’s great! You can ship what you wanna ship! But I think a lot of the love for this ship has to do with how it prevents Alluther from happening. If Allison is deeply in love with this wholesome man, she can’t ever like her brother.

But tbh….I didn’t buy Almond. For two people who are happily married they crumble and burn awfully fast.

And tbh, I was thinking about making a post about this so I’m gonna add this rant here but I just wanna preface this with the fact that I don’t hate them and I don’t hate people who ship them, I’m just….using this opportunity to poke some hole into their relationship.

I think it would’ve been more believable if Raymond and Allison would be in the early stages of dating while all of S2 goes down. Think about it.

They are married? After one year? I mean, as far as I know, Allison has been in the 60s for about two years - since Luther was the first one who arrived and he spent 3 years there??? But I am not fact-checking this, so correct me if I’m wrong - so she had time to get used to being there, adjust to having no voice, meet Raymond, fall in love with him and get married to him.

And considering she could already talk again it must’ve have been a while before she started talking to/dating Raymond? I don’t think a wound like that wouldn’t take a while to heal but with this show’s consistency, maybe it did.

I was actually hoping Allison would stay mute for a while longer but alas

So, they got married pretty fast imo, and you could argue that it’s the 60s but

Allison isn’t from the 60s

Allison just got out of a bad marriage. There’s like, a year?? maybe?? between her first marriage and her second one and tbh, I don’t think Allison would get married again so fast, tying herself to someone again almost immediately, especially if you consider what getting married in the 60s means for a woman and her personal freedom (it’s hinted at with Sissy but not with Allison and even though Raymond was probably a good husband who let her have her freedom and her say in things - as we can see with their movement - it’s still the 60s. Women couldn’t earn their own money. They couldn’t even spend any money without having to ask their husband. They were basically property of their husband and I can’t believe Allison would immediately jump back into being married, no matter how nice and good the guy is).

“That just means it’s true love! That’s why their marriage may seem rushed!”

Yeah true love. I also keep secrets from my true love.

I mean, I understand that Allison couldn’t start talking about time travel or Raymond would’ve started thinking she’s crazy or something - and maybe would’ve sent her to a mental institution as is his right as a husband, so good idea getting married! - but she didn’t mention stuff like “I had a child.” or “I lost my family.” either and those are vague enough to not raise questions.

I mean, she could’ve lied! She could’ve said Claire is dead, which considering the apocalypse was what they were escaping is true!

She could’ve talked about how she had a family, but they kinda lost each other - maybe talking about how they all moved away and she doesn’t know where they are now, even though she misses them terribly.

I mean, I simply can’t believe that she had to grief for her own child all on her own and she didn’t even tell her husband (and she couldn’t even properly be sad about it since Raymond and her lived together, so she probably didn’t have many moments where she could think about the future and the things she lost without the possibility of being walked in on).

And how much it would’ve meant if there would’ve been a scene of her crying over Claire when she thinks she’s alone, but alas.

Then there’s also the whole added drama to their relationship. Which was btw, so unnecessary.

@showwriters: Why do you establish a relationship you obviously want to be viewed as full of love and instead of letting it be the steady rock the character can lean on during all the already ongoing chaos, you add drama to it and let it fall apart as a side plot which immensely suffers from not being shown/explored enough.

I mean, we already have relationship drama with Vanya/Sissy and that relationship feels more natural because their obstacles are outside forces and not...one of them distrusting the other.

You know, I get why Raymond is suspicious, I totally do! I just don’t think it makes the relationship believable.

Once again, if they would’ve been in the early stages of dating and suddenly Allison’s weird brothers appear and she seems to be in cahoots with the cops, I would also think ‘???’ and it would’ve made perfect sense for Raymond to be confused and distrustful and not want to talk to Allison.

But they’re married. They’re married and they vowed to love each other in sickness and in health and yet Raymond immediately jumps to ‘Allison is a spy’.

The woman you love enough to marry. That’s your first thought. Okay.

(And if you wanna compare that to Vissy...Vanya suddenly drives off in the night to meet her family and disappears for a while and she apparently did something to Harlan and now he’s behaving weirdly and has powers….and she’s talking about taking Sissy and him to the future…..and yet….Sissy trusted Vanya).

And tbh, I was done with their whole relationship the moment Allison spent the whole night calling every single hospital, trying to find out whether her husband was in one of them - was even alive - in tears and close to breaking down because the last time she saw him they were both involved in a riot and the possibility of him being in jail or hurt is very high only to find out…..

…..he had a meeting with their group without telling her because he doesn’t trust her.

And what? He couldn’t have called her to at least tell her he’s okay and he’s gonna stay somewhere else overnight because shady shit did just go down that they need to discuss but he wants to be alone for now? That’s the bare minimum and yet he doesn’t do that. He doesn’t even call to make sure she is okay since running away doesn’t mean she couldn’t have accidentally been dragged into a brawl and hurt.

Once again: They are married.

So tbh, all I got from this relationship is the feeling that Allison simply didn’t wanna be alone in this new timeline and that isn’t an explicit point against Alluther.

Okay, but….Allison moved on! So she still won’t get with Luther!

Did she? Did she really? I don’t think so. I mean, one of the first things we get from Allison aside from ‘She’s married’ is ‘She looks at the moon so often, her husband notices and gets her a book related to that’.

That’s one of the most blatant ways they could’ve said: ‘She misses Luther.’

And Luther only. Not the whole family, Luther. If they wanted to somehow make this platonic or familial, they wouldn’t have taken the character she is canonly interested in romantically (which she is and has been since S1, no matter what antis say).

I mean, if they only wanted to show ‘She misses her family’ they could’ve added a scene where she listens to the kid next door playing the violin or sees a boy in schoolboy shorts or maybe mistakes someone for Diego or whatever, endless possibilities. But they didn’t.

They made it very clear she misses Luther and I don’t think she had a scene that shows her missing any of her other siblings in such a way (which is btw paralleled by the scene where Luther mistakes someone for Allison, which is also the only scene where he’s shown thinking about one of his siblings to the point he thinks he sees them - as far as I remember).

But that’s probably only a coincidence, right?

Then there’s them meeting for the first time. I mean, they hug and the rest of the world disappears.

They took the time to shoot/cut this scene in a way that, when Allison and Luther hug after years of not seeing each other, everyone else isn’t in the shot anymore and it’s just them. Because they tried to make this as platonic as possible.

(In comparison, Allison and Diego don’t even hug. And Klaus and Allison do hug and it’s a happy moment but there is no romantic music and it’s more focused on them being happy to see each other and not framed as a romantic scene. I mean, I have no clue regarding things like ‘motifs’ and ‘scenery’ but just watch those two hug scenes back to back and you know what I mean).

Then the scene proceeds and they talk and sit down and Luther mentions her marriage and Allison tries to apologize.

Just think about that. She doesn’t outright apologize but she does try to explain why she got married by saying how hard it was and is only stopped by Luther telling her he’s glad she wasn’t alone.

How….how can you read that as a platonic convo between brother and sister? Just replace Luther with Klaus. Why would she feel the need to explain herself and seems guilty about being married? Is it because it implies she gave up on finding her family? If so, that would be her reaction with every sibling but she is explicitly like this with Luther. She tells Klaus she’s married too, and in that scene it’s definitely a ‘siblings catching up’ moment and it’s a happy moment and she doesn’t seem apologetic about being married.

She is with Luther.

Because they both know that there’s something between them and has been for a long time, to the point that Allison is visibly jealous when Luther has other relationships (his one-night-stand in S1) and this is the second time Allison has turned towards another man instead of waiting for Luther. And that’s why she tries to apologize. That’s why she tries to explain that she couldn’t know whether they - whether Luther - would ever show up, so she tried her best to move on - but she didn’t really, hence the moon scene.

(This is also the scene where Luther could’ve been angry with her - and she probably would’ve thought he’s in the right - since during the days leading up to the apocalypse it seemed like they were slowly working towards being together - even if the kiss never happened, there’s still the phone booth scene which is basically Luther confessing his feelings - and now she once again leaves him standing alone, waiting for her to possibly return to him.

But he isn’t, he just tells her he’s glad that she wasn’t alone. Because he is the actual embodiment of a gentleman and this world doesn’t deserve him).

And this is just what I remember from watching the season once and then not really engaging with it, I can’t understand how antis can see those scenes and come to entirely different conclusions. But I guess, you really only see what you wanna see, huh?

But, but…...Incest is disguting! Even their siblings think so!

There’s a gifset on tumblr somewhere compiling the scenes in S1 that show how chill the sibs are with Alluther, but let’s disregard those and just focus on S2 since they changed up a lot from the prior season and antis seem to think S2 was them finally saying ‘No Alluther’.

I guess there’s the hair salon scene where Vanya, Klaus and Allison talk about relationships and Klaus lightly teases Allison for liking Luther.

Now, he mentions Allison crushing on their brother in the same sentence where he talks about Vanya and her ‘Farmfrau’ and unless I missed it, he doesn’t change his voice. He doesn’t suddenly sound completely disgusted, or like he wants to vomit or whatever people think, so either, he thinks Vissy is as ‘disgusting’ as Alluther, or, he thinks both are simply relationships his sibs are interested in pursuing and he teases them about them like a sibling may do.

And then you have Allison’s reaction.

She doesn’t go: ‘Oh yeah, that was gross, what was I thinking’, she doesn’t make a face or disgusted noises or what, no, she tries to defend herself and her feelings.

Which tells us:

Despite popular belief to disregard Allison’s say in the Alluther relationship, she wants the relationship and she is obvious enough about it their siblings know (and Klaus makes it a point to say ‘Allison is into Luther’ and not ‘Luther likes Allison and Allison tolerates it).

Alluther is brought up while they talk about current relationships, implying Allison still feels this way (especially because the way she reacts doesn’t make it seem like it’s a long over relationship with no longer relevant feelings. But again, I watched the season once and I don’t remember everything that was said. I think this is telling enough though).

So..tell me again how everyone thinks Alluther is disgusting?

By now anon is thinking: ‘What is the point of all this rambling?’

And yeah, I am sorry for going way too into detail but I just wanted to make it clear that if the writers were intend on killing Alluther off in S2 - like antis believe - then everything I just mentioned wouldn’t have happened.

(And that’s without even mentioning the cpr scene).

Alluther did get reduced but it didn’t vanish even though they decided to completely erase other things (like Claire and Eudora who are barely or not at all mentioned or things like Kliego being very close).

This would’ve been the best opportunity! They re-meet in the 60s and Allison is happily married and takes the time to tell Luther he should move on. Or both are single and Luther tries to ask where they’re standing and whether she would like to try with him and she goes ‘This would be a mistake’ and that’s it.

(I am making Allison the one who ends things because it would be ooc for Luther to just end the possible relationship after waiting for Allison for years and there needs to be some consistency even in the mess that was S2).

But! This didn’t happen!

Alluther is more or less back where it was in S1. Allison isn’t in a relationship anymore and won’t get back with the guy and Luther loves her no matter what. And the cheek kiss seems to leave them both on a hopeful note of finally getting together.

So unless they use S3 to once again redo the show, it feels like Alluther is set up to be endgame. Like, I am getting ‘star-crossed lovers’ vibes where you’re just waiting for them to finally get together - because they just belong - but things keep getting in the way.

You could compare it Diego/Lila in that regard, I think it’s pretty obvious those two are gonna end up together too.

I have another ask about how they could get together, where I will definitely ramble more, but this shall be it for now. I hope it was halfway consistent. (And doesn’t have too many typos, I’m too lazy to check).

Though tbh I forgot what age Jason is in this , I’ll have to see when i rewatch it soon. Curran, the actor, is actually 23, he just looks super young/short. He got pretty buff though. But yeah, that is an unfortunate thing wi the them rushing it already but also, I’d rather have it like this than if they were gonna spread it out through the seasons then it gets cancelled or something (poor Gotham s5, RIP). I think he was the PERFECT robin jason Todd though. Like I love his acting and portrayal of Jason(“Titans are back bitches!” classic Jason), he just is young looking and short. Gosh I still wanna know if they are going with the Lazarus pit for Jason or not! But like that also begs the question of whether they are doing a time skip cause normally Jason is dead for like 2-3ish years, but it doesn’t look like it from the trailer.

And yes, I’ve been looking forwards to Tim!!! While the trailer didn’t show it, the actor was on set a lot over these last couple of months (I’ve been keeping up with their instagrams xD) and seemed super close with the cast! I can’t believe the first look we got if Tim was him nearly crying, though that look already won me over, I love him and he is my son now. But RIGHT! Omg I squealed at the scarecrow part omg. Dr freaking Crane is a big reason I spiraled down this entire fandom tbh. Like literally a year ago I got obsessed with him for some reason and that led into the Bat hole where I am currently WAY deeper than I ever would have thought 😂 and while I’m not hyper fixated on him anymore, I still love him so much and is my 2nd fav rogue, and it mainly started with Jonathan 🥺 we barely even see his face and I am already in love with the casting, the voice is perfect. GG 2x04 Rewatch

Not gonna lie, this is probably going to be the only episode I rewatch. The rest has been kinda tainted by 2x13 and s3.

Generally, my opinions tend not to line up with the majority of the fandom - sorry, not sorry.

1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!

It’s a tie between the bathroom break and the vette smash. Bathroom break - for obvious reasons - I’m a hoe and I live for that shit. The vette smash - I just vibe with Rio’s petty energy and the way you could see how much he was enjoying himself, Dean being metaphorically castrated by the guy who just fucked his wife... chef’s kiss.

2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?

I WISH beth would’ve bit back when Dean brought up the shooting. It irks me so much that she contnually rolls over for him. She spitefully gets payback, but rarely puts him in his place (if it were up to me, his place would be by boomer-jeff’s side in the dumpster)

3. This episode starts with each of the girls trying to make amends in their own way – Beth through her family, Ruby through charity and Annie through Marion. What do you think this tells us about each of them?

I feel like Beth and Ruby’s attempts at making amends always feel incredibly shallow and I can never tell if it’s down to shitty writing or if its because they genuinely don’t feel guilty. If’it’s the former - I’m not surprised. If it’s the latter - I hope the girls own their lack of remorse, in future.

Annie strikes me as the one who feels genuine guilt over a lot of this, and it’s been pretty consistent - even when Lucy died in S3. I think it makes sense for her to be the most cut up about it because she always struck me as someone who’s ruled by her emotions - she doesn’t exactly think before she acts, and is typically pretty impulsive.

4. Rio offers Beth the keys to the kingdom! This scene is always hotly debated in the fandom! What do you think he meant in the moment of it? Do you think he ever actually saw or even wanted Beth as a partner?

Straying from the general consensus, as usual - I don’t think he was playing her and I don’t think he planned to take a cut of whatever Beth came up with.

Personally, I don’t think it makes much sense. He’s already learnt that he gets further with Beth through praise and reward, as opposed to intimidation - more flies with honey, yada yada yada.

If the whole thing was just a manipulation it would have made more sense for him to convince her that he had faith in her and offer her a 25% cut of any cash washing operation she could come up with. She would’ve bit his hand off at the opportunity.

I think he was telling the truth when he said that he was done, I think he was genuinely flipping his game from cash to pills. At this point, Turner was looking closely and so it would make sense for Rio to want to distance himself from the counterfeit operation. He literally explained back in season one that it’s how he avoids being caught, he flips his game before the feds get too close.

I get the feeling that he probably didn’t intend to have much contact with Beth going forward and was going to leave her to do whatever she wanted with the rest of the money. It’s not that I think he wouldn’t manipulate her, he absolutely would. I just don’t really think it makes sense in this context.

5. Do you think Marion had any idea that Boomer was taking advantage of her?

I think it was probably similar to the situation with Beth, regarding Dean’s cheating: the thought was there, but she never really confronted the idea and lived in a comfy little denial bubble.

6. Dean’s attachment to the corvette is played in many different ways in s2! How do you interpret this?

I think it’s the perfect display of his narcissism and toxic masculinity. The car is as grandiose as his ego and he thinks it’s going to save the dealership, much like he thinks he’s going to be the one to save his family from ruin.

7. Why do you think Beth kept the money from Ruby and Annie?

I think she’s hugely manipulative and likes to be the be the one holding the cards. She only wanted to rob the store when she had her own problems to worry about and then convinced the girls to go along with it, she went to Rio to ask for more work back in season 1, she asked him to up their drops, the list goes on.

She tends to call the shots and drag them along for the ride, so it seems consistent with her personality that she’d keep the money to herself until she needed it, and then inform the girls.

8. The birth of the cars for cash business! Is this Beth’s best idea? Her worst? How do you rank it, both in general and among the girls’ other schemes? And do you think it could’ve worked longterm if Turner wasn’t so fixated on Beth?

Probably the best idea she came up with tbh. The others were pretty poorly thought through, as far as long term strategising goes. It could’ve worked really well if they had an accountant keeping the books looking kosher.

9. The Beth and Dean arc this episode is perhaps one of their most frustrating (in spite of the extremely cathartic resolution, haha). Do you think Dean’s belittling of Beth and his feelings of Beth emasculating him are new to their relationship or have been around for a long time? How do you think they really see each other?

I think they lived in a state of blissful ignorance and their initial interaction (love you, tunafish) was really indicative of that. Him belittling her was probably prevalent in the beginning of the relationship, but I think she probably just placated him and got on with her life. Now she’s clearly growing tired of his shit, just not. fast. enough.

I don’t think they’re in love though. I think Dean’s feelings for her are fuelled by narcissim. She’s obviously good looking and from the outside, he has it all. The house in the burbs, kids, hot wife, family business etc. That’s what he cares about - the image. I don’t think Beth is too dissimilar. I think she probably looked up to Judith as a teenager and idiolised that life, which Dean could provide. I don’t think she ever had deep, romantic, feelings for him. But she probaly does care for him, to an extent.

10. The Annie and Beth arc is also pretty telling of the characters’ history. It’s also one of the few times we’ve deliberately seen Beth seek out Annie for comfort (often it’s incidental that Annie’s there). What do you think this tells us about their relationship, both historically, and where they are at this point in the series?

I think it’s one of the few moments that their sibling bond is believable. It’s pretty accurate that, as Annie is maturing, she becomes less of a fuckup baby sister who needs everyone to clean up after her and grows into someone that beth can turn to for comfort/advice. Makes sense that this happens later in life, considering the significant age gap.

11. Ruby’s scene at the Quick Cash with JT is really significant – both in terms of it being a generally delightful scene, but also as a touchstone demonstration of Ruby’s increasing unwillingness to swallow her pride. Do you think Ruby prior to the series commencing would’ve reacted to JT’s goading in this way? And how do you think this scene compliments the scene earlier in the episode with Stan admitting he’s taken another loan too?

I thinks she would’ve wanted to, but literally couldn’t afford to. She had the means and opportunity to give him a dose of karma. But it’s always been in her nature to talk shit - diner dickweed in season 1. She refused to swallow her pride and apologise.

That, along with Stan taking another loan, seems to fit in well with the Hill’s entire arc of trying to be good people and being consistently shit on for it.

12. THE. BATHROOM. BREAK. That’s it. That’s the question. Please elaborate on your thoughts and feelings.

Am i supposed to be able to form thoughts or sentences that adequately express my feelings?

Petty king is also king of consent, he let beth take the lead - love it.

Judging from the papertowel dispenser, stroke game was strong.

10/10 - would definitely recommend being railed in a bathroom by this man.

13. Greg and Annie have what’s their last break-up in this episode (at least up until now). Why do you think this particular one stuck? And do you see any sort of future for them?

I feel like the key difference was Annie putting her foot down and saying “no”. Idk if I can see them getting back together, becasue I don’t think she’d have another affair when there’s a child in the mix and he’s too much of a pussy to divorce Nancy unless he has a guaranteed backup plan aka Annie. Still kinda ship it though.

14. Annnnd lastly, what do you make of the final scene at Boland Motors? What do you think Rio thought following both the bathroom break and this moment?

I think that Rio was genuinely flipping his game and moving away from cash and, in turn, Beth. But the bathroom break changed his mind, so he got curious and wanted to know what she came up with for the money, only to find out that she gave it to Dean. Given how possessive Rio is of his money, in combination with the feelings for Beth which had just been stirred up, I think his jealous side came out and he took back the money.

Up until this point, the entire Brio dynamic was him holding the power and exerting it whenever he saw fit. The second he followed her into that bathroom, he gave up whatever semblance of control or power he had left. The man is a very obvious control freak and so I don’t think he does well or feels secure in those situations. Him smashing up the car was basically an attempt to re-establish dominance and convince himself (and Beth) that he was still in control; with the added bonus of emasculating dean and making money.

And daaaayyyyyyyuuuuuuummmmm if I don’t enjoy watching that scene. The emasculation of Dean, Rio being petty, Beth malfunctioning at the possibility of Dean finding out she got dicked down in the bathroom, while he sat outside trying (and failing) to get the waiter’s attention. I DIE

Do you think Lxa was just listening to Clarke in s3 to the point of alienating her own people just because she wanted to screw her or because she really wanted peace? Because it got to the point where Lxa’s actions where very obviously favoring the sky people over her own. This is not the Lxa we saw in s2. How did you interpret it?

I disagree with your essential theory here. I think it was the Lxa we saw in season 2. Most of my disdain for Lxa actually stems from my belief that she was a terrible leader who cared more about her reputation and power than she did about doing what was best for her people. Understand that my whole interpretation of Lxa stems from her poor leadership, so the widely accepted interpretation that Lxa was some sort of brilliant, peacemaking leader... a visionary... doesn’t wash with me.

Oh hey, this is a long one so I’m going to write it all after the jump, which keeps some of the controversy at bay because at heart, we’re all too lazy to click keep reading. And the last time I said the behavior of a beloved character was not out of character but was their character the entire time, and gave evidence for it, I got some stans MAD. Like I was making up the canon or something IDK. I think it was more like they were erasing canon or brushing it under the rug because it wasn’t nice. Whatever didn’t fit their interpretation they decided was unimportant.

So this is going to happen in regards to Lxa. Do not read if you’re not willing to read that. And if you do read it, don’t get mad at me for not thinking Lxa is the bees knees. You’ve been warned, now be a responsible consumer of media and either accept that people are allowed different opinions or don’t read it because you’re not interested in interpretations that read Lxa as an antagonist. (this is directed at stans, not you anon.)

ok moving on the meta

Yes. Indra called her a visionary, and we know that she united the clans against a common enemy, the mountain men, which kept them from infighting, but I don’t actually consider that peace. Unity, yes. Peace, no. They united in order to fight someone else. There’s no definition of peace that centers on waging war. And when we SAW her leading, once the story starts? Lxa lost every battle that she entered into. Not the one on one fights, she was a good warrior, I’ll give her that. However, the only people she managed to kill or dominate were her own people. And whenever she or her people were up against the skypeople, she actually lost. Even when things were so weighted in her favor that there was no question that the grounders would win. She still lost.

I can’t speak for her motivation before the show starts. It does seem as if her “peacemaking,” which makes it better for the tribes, but also ended up giving her more power over everyone, including her most bitter enemies, the Azgeda, serves the double duty of allying the tribes AND glorifying Lxa herself.

TBH, I don’t see ANY action she takes in the entire series that doesn’t glorify Lxa. Well, until she meets Clarke and falls in love, and then she starts trying to make decisions that AREN’T about her reputation or power base or political machinations... although i think in public, she keep maneuvering it all back to being for her glorification.

She wants Clarke and loves her and desires her, so she takes her. BUT she manipulates it to be a political move where she has power over the sky people and over death itself. Clarke LITERALLY becomes a trophy, who needs to kneel at her feet. And yes, she does kneel back, but only in private, so it doesn’t damage her reputation or show weakness. Clarke becomes a vulnerability to her because of this, I think.

I do think Lxa’s weakness is love... but we have to expand the definition to mean love, desire, yearning... and not just for Clarke or Costia or any people. Lxa LOVES power, and her desire is to keep, maintain and grow her power... and if letting TonDC blow will give her more power, she’ll let her coalition leaders die. If betraying Clarke and skycrew will give her more power, she’s leave them to die. If kidnapping Clarke and using her to prove she’s powerful (and also giving her what she’s wanted since s2 which is Clarke near enough to date,) then she’ll do it. Oh look, her unstated desires are starting to bleed into political and leadership decisions. Weakness. It’s not the love, I don’t think. it’s the lack of integrity. But her emotions make her unstable and unpredictable. She wants what she wants and will break her own rules to get it, whether it is a reputation as a badass or clarke in polis or control over her coalition or a legacy that makes her a legend.

And there was only one point when she favored the sky people and that’s when she let them slide on the hakeldama massacre. And to be honest, that wasn’t about preferring the skypeople. It wasn’t even about loving Clarke. Clarke manipulated her into that decision by accurately understanding what motivated Lxa... power, reputation, and her LEGACY. Clarke fed her ego by convincing her that showing the skypeople mercy would make her famous as a visionary. This is not my interpretation. This is canon. It wasn’t “if you love me you’ll let my people live.” It wasn’t “don’t kill innocent people, please have mercy.” It was, “if you spare them, people will remember you as merciful, as the visionary who brought peace to the people.” Not “this is the right thing to do.” But “this is how people will see you forever.” But remember also, that mercy came with a double edged sword. An army sitting outside Arkadia, that could either protect or destroy if they stepped out of line. They weren’t diplomats. They were warriors, and they were armed and dangerous. When Pike’s army killed them, they weren’t innocents. Pike killed their watch FIRST. Which is TACTICS. He removed their first defense. And then killed their archers, so they couldn’t get close enough to the sky people to overwhelm them with their superior numbers. This was not more powerful warriors killing defenseless people (like it was at the drop ship. what was SPECIFICALLY these warriors, trikru,) it was 10 people with better weapons, assessing the weaknesses of an army 30 times their strength, and beating them with strategy. They didn’t cheat. They beat them fair and square. Their decision was WRONG, and a bad idea, but not cheating. Until they went through and killed the wounded. I think that’s a war crime. And Pike did deserve punishment for that (not Bellamy he tried to stop it.)

Even though she spared them and seemed to favor them over her army, in that one instance, the rest of the time she had the skypeople twisting on a string, pent up behind a fence, not allowed to use the mountain although they conquered it, not allowed to trade or farm or hunt. She was keeping them powerless. And when she punished Nia for blowing up MW, she didn’t do it for the skypeople, she did it for herself, because Nia challenged her. Nia attacked the skypeople as a move against Lxa.

I don’t think Lxa cared much about peace. She showed little mercy. To anyone unless it served her needs. And we saw that in season 2. And she wasn’t being kind to skaikru in season 3. Never. Sparing them from slaughter is not kindness, it is an abuse of power that continually reminds them she could slaughter them all, man woman and child, whenever she wanted to. And Clarke had to stay to make sure she didn’t. Regardless of her other reasons for wanting to stay (hiding from her people, trauma, wanting to be with Lxa.)

I’m always nervous to answer asks about Lxa because I do NOT think Lxa is a hero. Just because a character serves as representation for an under represented minority does not mean that that character is heroic, good, or perfect. Depicting a minority as a complex, three dimensional character (which I think Lxa IS) is actually good representation. It is not good representation to assume that all minorities are flawless, heroic, perfect characters. White guys get Superman, that perfect hero, but they also get Batman (dark and tortured,) and Rorsharch (maybe good maybe not so good,) and The Joker (really not good but compelling.) Lesbians don’t get any of that, so looking at Lxa, FINALLY representation of their own, they see Superman, that perfect example. But Lxa in the story is really more like Magneto. A leader with good intentions whose motives and methods are SEVERELY questionable and from many perspectives, down right evil.

At best, if you look at the story from her perspective (which is not the perspective of the narrative) she is a TRAGIC hero, like Hamlet or Macbeth, a character who starts out high, with power and respect, and through their own fatal flaws, falls and loses everything. That is EXACTLY what happened to Lxa. This was not an attack on her character, this was how her character was built from the beginning and is a VERY classic tragic story. No one did it to her. She did it to herself. She was warned along the way. And she did what she wanted anyway, and she lost EVERYTHING, her life, her people, her power, her traditions, her religion, even, eventually, her immortality. Everything that happened to the grounders was essentially set into place by Lxa, when she attacked 100 pretty helpless adolescents, and strung Jasper up, unprovoked.

She didn’t cause the Ark to fail, or the rebellion on the ark. She didn’t cause the second apocalypse. She didn’t cause the Eligius or Sanctum. But the story of the grounders and how their society collapsed was TOTALLY on Lxa’s head. But she WAS more interested in her own self interest, desires, and power than she was the benefit of her people.

I think her behavior in s3 is consistent with her behavior in s2, with some added character development of how BAD she is at dealing with love. No, dear, you cannot kidnap someone and make them love you. You literally did EVERYTHING wrong in wooing Clarke. You’re just lucky she’s so forgiving and was so vulnerable when you had her in your clutches. Anyway. It was good for neither of them.

I simply do not agree with the interpretation that Lxa is a good leader, kind, or visionary. Not in s2 or s3. I think she’s a good character as an antagonist, but the fandom interpretations erase her antagonist qualities and flatten her out into a cupcake that doesn’t belong in this story. She’s not the hero. Clarke, Bellamy and the 100 are. Lxa is the person who caused a good portion of the trauma for our heroes, even in the romance. That makes her the antagonist. Lxa stood in the way of our heroes getting what they wanted in season 1, season 2 and season 3. That’s an antagonist, even when the complexity of love, and a golden cage, is added to the story. I do not ever say that their love isn’t real, I’m saying that just because there’s love doesn’t mean it is good, healthy, or helpful for our hero. Love does not equal perfect, or we wouldn’t have heartbreak, domestic abuse, failed marriages, love triangles, bad girfriends/boyfriends, or Donna Summer’s classic disco hit, “I Will Survive” (hey hey)

Aaaa I did it with Angelica/SSB/Luna/Yuna. Ange has idol to boost slow ass Luna. SSB has bloodstone so she can subheal while landy debuffs and doing damage. Luna main DPS. Yuna provides speed+attack buff as well as CR pushes team with S1. I used to use Kise in Yuna’s place, but I figured Yuna’s supporting kit would be more beneficial. It’s definitely not a 100% success clear team, as there were many close calls where Angie could have died, but thanks to a CR push from Yuna in a dual attack, the heals made it time.

I tried it without SSB since you don’t have her. Replaced her with A.Momo. Angie doesn’t face near death encounters, but when wyvern puts up shield, it’s crucial that Luna lands def break, otherwise the DPS are practically dead. I speak from experience, :’D I got him down to around 25% hp before he put up a second shield & Luna just used her S3 right before so def break was wasted & wyvern got angry. I ended up stopping auto to use 2 Arkys to finish the battle. This team would work on manual, not so much auto..not enough damage. Maybe my gears are just bad kasjdaskdasde.

IF YOU DONT WANNA USE ANGELICA OR YUNA—A.Momo/Krau/Luna/Karin.. but it’d definitely need to be manual, for me at least. Maybe someone can auto using this, but my Karin’s gears are real shitty. A.Momo heals. Krau tanks, it could be any tank tbh. Luna still is the main DPS. Karin is subDPS: her S2 def breaks & she gains another turn if she crits, follow up with S3. I also tried that same team, but instead of Karin I took Sez... logic being SEZ IS HOT, LETS USE SEZ. Ended up wiping when I couldn’t take down the shield. Karin has a better kit for Wyvern, SHE’S FASTER AND HAS DEF BREAK AND THAT MAKES IT SO MUCH BETTER.

Season 7 Speculation Game

I was tagged by @captainwilldameron! Thank you!!! I rarely do spec so uhhh we’ll see how this goes haha but I’m really excited!!

Pick one or more characters you think will survive: Clarke, Bellamy, Raven, Murphy, Jordan, and god I hope at least Indra. Potentially Niylah. Madi. Probably Miller too? Can they just all survive?

Pick one or more characters you think will die: Tbh I suppose Raven and Octavia could switch places in the sense of if one dies, the other lives? Not for any particular storyline reason, just something I feel. Jackson, okay maybe Miller, Russell. Gaia and Indra might be opposites - one lives and the other dies. Would NOT like that, pls give them a happy home and life. I know there’s also a theory that Bellamy and Clarke will die in the end as a sort of sacrifice for the future and uh... the angst side of my mind can’t entirely write it off. Sort of the in vein of them accomplishing their goal to get their people to safety and dying successfully if that makes sense. JROTH DON’T READ THIS I DON’T WANT IT.

(I’ve totally forgotten people but tbh I think a lot of people will die).

Pick one deceased character you think might make a cameo: Definitely Becca and/or ALIE (does she count as deceased?) since we still have some chips floating around I think, as well as Sheidheda having uploaded himself to something. Maybe some Abby stuff with flashbacks.

Do you expect any romantic changes to happen this season?: Yes I do! There tends to be something of some sort haha. I think Octavia is kind of the expected one (is shipping her and Hope a crack ship asdfkljsdlk). Obviously I’m a Bellarke stan through and through so I’m praying to every higher power lol. I won’t speak on the probability of that though.

Where will the final scene take place?: I keep envisioning some type of settlement, still somewhat rudimentary. Everyone has started over and we get to see them just genuinely being people. Okay wait but now I just imagined them in a space ship about to head to a new planet and kind of a “what the hell the universe is ours” type of a moment which I don’t love but can also see. Idk leaning towards a new settlement on some planet or something.

What will the final line be?: Maybe something about life finally being about something more than just surviving. I think it would be a great callback and hopefully it would mean our characters get a complete break. I could also see this show being meta about itself and having Jordan with a kid and starts to tell a story about 100 kids who came down from the sky and then it fades to black.

Who will say it?: Oh lol I just rambled above! My guess is Clarke or a second-gen character, Madi or Jordan.

What’s one thing you hope happens?: BELLARKE. I also would really love for Raven to have a real storyline, that was easily the most disappointing part of the last season for me. Rewatching the earlier ones, she was so feisty and way more complex. I’d love for them to explore more of her internal conflict, as well as her and Clarke to being actual friends. Also fuck the commander shit, get that out of here. Clarke getting a GOD DAMN BREAK.

Do you expect a happy ending?: I feel like it’ll be a bit like The Hunger Games. I don’t see them erasing the characters’ traumas but instead an optimistic one. So I guess not entirely happy, but hopeful. That there can be a future for them. Yeah idk about “happy” per se since I don’t think that’s how this genre works. I think that’ll translate into them fully breaking the circle and being able to look ahead with the past actually behind them.

List your favorite character, season and episode up to this point: My favorite character, her fuck ups and all, has always been Clarke. She’s definitely a fave character for me in general. I love her story, the back and forth, and how she’s constantly battling. I don’t gravitate towards morally “perfect” characters anyway and her grayness while still being the protagonist is fantastic. Favorite season is definitely season two, but I think one and three are close. EPISODE???? BITCH??? Jk hahaha. But honestly that’s so hard. Here’s some from each season because fuck choosing:

Hiya! So i started watching Broadchurch bc of you (and sad scruffy david tennant tbh) and i jUST FINISHED SEASON 1 OMG ELLIE DID NOT DESERVE THE BS SHE WENT THROUGH I FUCKING KNEW SHE WAS TOO CLOSE TOO THE CASE IM AKSSJSJASKW anyways, i read that s2 didnt really live up to expectations from s1?? I was wondering what are your thoughts on it??? Can i watch s3 without watching s2??

Aaaay, my first conversion! I’m thrilled! And yes, Ellie deserves all the hugs after s1. As for s2 not living up to expectations, well, it depends on what your expectations are.

S2 is all about fallout, not only with Danny’s case, but Sandbrook too. It’s about the different and sometimes messy ways people cope with trauma, it’s about facing your demons (sometimes literally), it’s about intent vs perception, truth vs justice. It’s about the different ways people find closure (or don’t). It is, to me, an incredibly human season.

I loved it.

My sister hated it.

I’m going to put the rest of my thoughts under a cut for season 1 spoilers, BUT NO SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2. The tldr version is that I think s2 is worth watching, and it provides important context for s3, but you don’t have to watch it to follow along with the storyline.

Season 2 focuses on two things: Joe’s trial, and Alec trying to reopen the Sandbrook case. While Sandbrook is a delightful mystery a la season 1, this season focuses more on the characters and their interpersonal relationships. I’ll break down the reasons people like and dislike it, and you can decide for yourself. Again, I promise there are NO SPOILERS.

Dislike

So it’s no secret that the relationship between the Millers and Latimers took a HUGE blow when Joe confessed. If you didn’t like Ellie going through shit in season 1, then you might not like season 2 because this gets ratcheted up to 11. How could you not know, Ellie asked Susan, and now it’s her that has to answer the question. If you’re hoping for a lot of people to start off in Ellie’s corner at the beginning of the season, you’ll be disappointed.

Joe’s trial is as brutal and hard to watch as you’d expect. The prosecution and the defense are damn good at their jobs, and it’s a no-holds-barred fight all the way down to the verdict. If you don’t like the idea of anyone defending Joe and putting a spotlight on everyone else’s dirty laundry, you may not like s2.

Sandbrook is a messy case. We already know this from Alec’s confession in s1, and seeing the effects of what it did to his mental and physical health. We cannonball down a rabbit hole as Alec tries to breathe life back into a case that is deemed DOA by everyone else. Sandbrook is a toxic and bitter case for everyone involved, and no one is anything less than 50 shades of gray (sorry, I had to). You may find the new characters intriguing, or you may find them too unlikable to bother with.

Everyone is going through grief and shock thanks to the trauma of Danny’s case and Joe’s reveal. They all process these feelings in different ways. Not all of them are sympathetic.

No one acts like they do without reason. You may not like the actions, but the motivations are understandable and painfully, beautifully human.

Alec’s backstory is fleshed out and it’s heartbreaking in a way only the sweetest angst can be. You know the kind. Watching how much he cares, how hard he’s trying, what he went through and is willing to go through to get justice for Pippa and Lisa will make you love him even more than you do. He also goes through some great character development.

Ellie’s strength through this entire nightmare is a goddamn treasure. Even when she’s in pain, even when she’s screaming and crying, even when it feels like she’s utterly alone, she never stops fighting and she never sacrifices who she is, never turns into something twisted by bitterness and pain like Alec did. You’ll be so proud of her by the time it’s over.

Alec and Ellie’s relationship also gets development, and the power dynamic becomes more balanced. Alec softens, Ellie hardens. Even when every other character has turned their backs, Ellie and Alec are there for each other 100% of the way. He’s a support system for her, she’s a fighter for him. Alec is clearer about his respect and trust for Ellie, and Ellie gives as good as she gets when he starts on with his shit, in a way she didn’t (and couldn’t) in season 1. They’re a well-oiled machine by season 3, but it’s season 2 that assembles the parts.

Sandbrook is a good mystery. Whether you like it as much as Danny’s case is a matter of personal preference, but imo it’s a good story with good twists.

LGBT content. ;) Though for the sake of keeping expectations realistic, it stays subtext up until the finale. But what a finale.

I strongly recommend giving season 2 a try. It all comes down to preference. Like I mentioned above, the things I loved about it were the things my sister hated about it. You’ll also start of season 3 with a much stronger foundation than you would if you skipped 2. Definitely gonna be some moments of, “oh shit, when and how did that happen?”

If you want, message me off anon and I can tell you the s2 spoilers you need to know going into s3. But I 100% recommend watching s2 in its entirety. I wasn’t disappointed, and hopefully you won’t be either.
