Astrology and The Sexes: Taurus Men

The Taurus Man:

Title: “The Idol” 

For simplicity's sake, I will use the pronouns “he/him” for the male versions of the signs and “she/her” for the female versions of the signs. This is not to say that the people who identify with the male or female versions of each sign identify with those pronouns. This post is focusing on the different sexes (male vs female) not gender. Gender is fluid and I am in no way labeling people with these posts. Also, these posts are focusing solely on the Sun signs of each zodiac, other birth chart placements may cause someone to not fit into everything I have described.

Taurus is one of the two signs ruled by Venus (the other is Libra). Venus is a feminine planet, so, when it comes to describing a Taurus regardless of sex, they tend to be very feminine. 

A Taurus man tends to be quite submissive in life, not just when it comes to sex. They are not the type to start a physical fight, however, if they are caught in the middle of one they will fight if it is something worth fighting for. 

When making plans with him he will be pretty compliant. He wants people to like him so, he will not go against the group. 

He has an almost inability to be assertive which can be quite annoying when you are trying to get information out of them. They are very cryptic in conversation. They will not outright say what they want to tell you, especially when it may hurt you. So, instead, they will beat around the bush and leave you feeling quite confused. 

The thing about a Taurus man is that he withholds parts of himself on purpose. When you are talking to him and trying to get to know him, it almost always seems as though he is leaving things out, and not giving you the whole story. This is because he is. He knows that people fall to their knees around him when he is a bit “mysterious” so, he uses this to his advantage. 

He is very slow when it comes to making decisions. He wants to weigh the pros and cons and wait and watch before he even decides to move. This may be aggravating if you are someone who is more spontaneous. 

He likes to be worshiped by the people around him and makes sure he presents himself in just the right way for people to do this. 

He is ruled by the Gods, Adonis, Hyacinthus, and Narcissus. 

His personality can be compared to Ferdinand the Bull, who is constantly rolling around in a bed of roses. He would much rather stop to smell the roses and go out for a stroll than charge headfirst into battle. 

He wants to be the perfect employee when it comes to work so, he will do whatever he is asked no questions asked. He portrays himself as a team player, and as just one of the guys when he is around men. But, when he is around women in senior positions he is a walking, talking, innuendo. 

Instead of trying to dominate a situation and end up in a leadership role, he wants to cultivate common ground with people.

Taurus men enjoy cultivating things, especially people who will worship them. Rather than keeping his ever-growing flock on a leash, he chooses to dangle himself in front of them and just out of reach. The reason for this is that he enjoys the attention.

He may have been raised in a female-dominated household and because of this, he learned from a young age that men should be submissive, especially when it comes to dealing with women. 

He is his mother's favorite child, and she will often times make all of his decisions for him and this will continue on into his adulthood. He is a momma's boy and often times considers his mom to be one of his best friends.

When it comes to the relationships in his life, whether they be a lover or a friend, he keeps them on a shelf and expects them to be there for him whenever he needs them. He views them as belonging to him rather than as a person. 

Since he has always allowed his mother to be overbearing in his life he will often times seek that out in a female partner. He usually wants to marry someone who embodies the traits of his mother. He definitely has an Oedipal complex whether he is aware of it or not.

The Taurus man is the perfect example of the strong silent type. They have trouble articulating their thoughts, and because of this, they believe that the less they say the better. 

His inherent sensuality is seen as totally nonthreatening to women. 

Taurus men are the epitome of being written by women. 

Typically he is leaner or taller than the others in his family. If not, he has seemly perfect proportions that make him look as though this is true. 

He sailed through puberty without any zits, excessive hair, etc. which may have annoyed the other boys his age. 

He seems to have perfect skin, with not a singular pore in sight. 

He also has facial hair that is usually heavy on his lip and chin. 

His style is pretty nonchalant. Usually wearing casual but pricy clothes. Typically he wears jeans, blazers, sweaters, loafers, etc. 

He is on top of his grooming routine yet, he still tends to look like he just rolled out of bed because of his unruly hair. 

He always seems so elegant even if he isn’t. 

They all seem to look like David of Michelangelo in some way shape or form.

He has full lips that always appear to be moist. Balantatly sensual. 

Usually has a bony face and hollowed cheeks. 

His eyes and jaw appear to be lazy. His jaw always seems to be somewhat slack. 

He has very thick eyelashes. 

Taurus’ are ruled by their neck so, their necks seem to always be the focal point of themselves. His neck is very thick and muscular. Not very long but definitely pronounced. On the other hand, they may have the opposite of that and have a semi-long thin neck.

His body tends to not be very muscular looking but this is not to say he isn’t strong just more on the lean side. 

His shoulders tend to be broad and bony. 

He has a lot of boyish qualities to him. He doesn’t have much body hair, and the hair he does have tends to be pretty sparse on his body. 

His torso tends to be quite long with a happy trail that is a bit full. 

He has quite a big penis. 

His ass is usually pretty firm, not very big but still firm. 

He is very indulgent in food, drink, sex, or anything that gives him a buzz. 

He can be quite clumsy especially when tipsy. 

When he is angry or excited his voice may get high or squeaky.

Taurus Man Interested in Women:

Because of his childhood, he tends to believe that in a heterosexual relationship the woman has more control. So, he usually goes for a more assertive, leader type in women. 

He usually has a gaggle of women following him around ogling at him. He seems as though he doesn’t notice them or that he doesn’t care for the attention but that couldn’t be further from the truth. He loves having people at his beck and call to satisfy his needs whenever he pleases. 

His first sexual encounter may have been with an older woman, where he played the role of her sugar baby. If his first sexual partner was with someone his age or younger, she was still the more dominant partner. 

He likes a woman to dominate him. He gets off on allowing a woman to have her way with him. 

He wants to be his woman's possession, literally and figuratively. So, nothing turns him on more than a woman who says that she would stop at nothing to keep him. 

He believes that any woman would be lucky to be with him. 

He expects the woman to make the advances sexually. He rarely is the one to make the first move. 

He will rarely enter a relationship with a woman unless he is absolutely positive she wants him.

Mustafa D. Doctor

General Description: At first glance, Mustafa's personality to the average person in the vast world that he is in can be described in about a few words being, confident, determined, stubborn, kind and an idiot. He is a very act first, think later type of person and does whatever he thinks is right, to the dismay of the others around him. One of those things being his rule of never running from any fight, no matter what the consequences may be, including the possible loss of his own life. He doesn't care what others think of him, especially when it comes to how they feel about him claiming to eventually be the first 'Galactic Pirate King', and tries to have fun wherever and whenever he possibly can. He is very easy to talk to, having absurd amounts of charisma, despite being a complete moron at times, and is the type of person that everyone would want to be around. However after someone decides to get to know him, or is considered to be a friend, Mustafa's true qualities shine. Almost like a special ability, Mustafa is able to bring up those around him, likely relating to his charisma mentioned earlier, and the simple fact that him believing in himself, causes other's to believe in themselves through him. He allows people to become the best versions of themselves and gives them an unrivaled amount of hope, even if all odds are stacked against them. This type of energy is what allows the Galactic Pirates to essentially be the way they are and making them a formidable crew, almost seeming unstoppable to the public eye. Adding on to before, like many other shonen protagonists, Mustafa has a great and deep love for his friends, and is willing to do almost anything to help them in any way he can. This confidence and energy that he exudes is due to his upbringing and how he had been the complete opposite as a child, scared of everything and lacked the ability to have faith in himself. Through characters like Jamal, (his foster brother), Momo, (foster sister), and mainly Monkey D. Yuri, (foster sister), he learned to become the man he is seen as today and eventually achieve his dream of becoming the Galactic Pirate King.

Appearance: Unfortunately, I dislike using things like Pinterest or inspirations when it comes to characters in fictional anime-like verses due to the fact that I have my own imagining of them, and I feel is important for the character to look that way. HOWEVER, because I know this is Tumblr and having visualization for the character is important, I will try my best to find accurate pictures to use. I will also give my own descriptions to assist in the imagining process but just know that I do not acknowledge these as the way the characters ACTUALLY look, even if they may have similar features.

Age: Starts off story at 15, and ends off the first saga at 19.

Birthday: August 21st (Leo)

Height: Around 5'8-5'9

Saikyo Description: Black teenager with a lean muscular build and distinct light blue hair being his most prominent trait. Later on in the story he get's an X-shaped scar crossing from his eye onto his right cheek. His eyes are usually depicted as being the regular black anime eyes, but are also fine if imagined being silver. He also wears a necklace with a miniature drill on his neck at all times that looks like this.

Abilities: Mustafa has various different abilities which only grow as the series continues. For the fact that I want to avoid spoilers, I will only mention the abilities he has at the start of the series and will add more later as more is revealed. His main power/ability that he uses is his devil fruit (kinda, more on that later) known as the Drill-Drill fruit, which allows the user to create drills around their body, like on their hands or feet, exactly like this. It's also possible to change the speed and sharpness of the drill to make it more effective, capping out at however much the user is capable of handling. If used on the feet and spinning fast enough, the user is able to levitate themselves and later on, be able to even fly if strong enough. The fruit with enough mastery is also able to cause the user to have drill like properties, creating almost like an armor around them which Mustafa named Drill Mode. The fruit is able to do various other things but for now that's all that will be mentioned.

Fun Facts

If not for wanting to become the Galactic Pirate King, Mustafa would have likely been something like a marine biologist due to his extreme love of fish and fish life

After being scared of things like possums, rats and other similar creatures, Mustafa has a great dislike of rodents of all kinds

Similar to Luffy, Mustafa loves food, in particular meat, but refuses to eat any sort of fish, which has almost costed him his life on multiple occasions

Mustafa, despite having enough charisma to be able to get any girl he would want, seemingly has no interest in getting with anyone (at the moment at least). He also has no idea what sex or any sexual act is whatsoever due to it being hidden from him. Although if asked what his type is, he would respond by saying: a powerful women who could beat his ass

Mustafa's favorite color is blue

Mustafa often imagines himself to be more villainous than he actually is, due to the fact of him wanting to seem like a menace evil pirate despite it not being true. Oftentimes he is lied to by his crew to seem scarier than he actually is.

Mustafa is not fully against killing despite the fact that he dislikes doing it and avoids it at any chance he gets. His fruit allows him to be extremely violent and possibly extremely dangerous, but he makes a conscious decision to always dull his drill to the point where it cannot even cut through anyone. However, if he is an extremely bad mood, which is not often or feels like it's deserving or the only way, Mustafa would kill.

So much thoughts to get out over Asmo right now...But not sure exactly how. So gonna just write to see if hopefully things come out right. So expect this to be a post of me just blabbing on about Asmo and stuff. pfff

This is gonna be full of spoilers from lesson 12 btw. So putting a read more now.

I talked about this on another post, but the little detail of Asmo being the type to knock on your door before entering your room. Just was so much to me. I had to mention it again because I loved it lots. ;;

So in this moment with Asmo, we get some backstory, and learned why he paints his brothers nails, as he paints ours...

There's quite a bit here to unpack, so will try my best to get my thoughts out on this.

First of all, Asmo once again shows how sweet and caring he is over his brothers. Especially during the most stressful and depressing of times and situations.

He admits to us he was scared when he first arrived in Devildom. Understandable. The place is a huge unfamiliar place to him, and completely different to the Celestial realm like he described.

Though even through his own personal fears and all. He kept his brothers on mind, and put their possible shared feelings and thoughts into mind too. So much in fact, he came up with a idea in hopes to help everyone feel more connected and less alone. It was a small action, but had so much heart and meaning into it.

I'm wondering how many of the brothers later on figured out, how meaningful having their nails painted by Asmo means to him. If Asmo didn't already state the meaning of it that is to them.

All I can imagine off the top of my head is Lucifer...Since he usually is the one to figure these things out in time I feel. Though maybe it was revealed from other characters in time, that I just can't recall or am unaware of.

Then there's Satan I gotta mention here...I'm sure in time he learns to warm up to the fact he's gonna get his nails painted always. Whether he likes it or not. pff But seeing him admit awhile back he felt he didn't belong and all to the family. Just made this little moment from Asmo even more huge to me. Asmo really was trying hard to do everything he could to help Satan feel part of the family, that he belonged and all. Yes Asmo can come off strong in times, but he had his good reasons, and his heart was always in the right place in the end.

Then there's the fact Asmo tells us all of this, while painting our nails, to show and say we are apart of them too. Asmo... 💕😭

Personal talk time: Will not deny the fact I did cry over hearing this from him. Since personally, I never felt I truly belonged or fitted into any group or peoples lives. Even if I have friends here and all, I still often feel like a outcast I guess...So just hearing him say he's painting your nails to show you you're one of them, are apart of the family. Just is such a small act but hugely meaningful thing to me. 💗 (It hit me so much in the heart honestly. That I finally attempted to paint my nails again similar to Asmo's style. So that should say a lot. lol)

Now here's what Asmo says afterwards that really expresses how truly huge his heart is...If you still didn't already know by now.

This side of Asmo seems to be the same whichever time I feel now. Only differences from here and og OM time...In this moment, he's not drunk. So he's not being selfishly true and raw with his thoughts and feelings towards us.

In NB, we can tell Asmo is hiding his true feelings about us possibly wanting to go back home. Since he's putting our feelings and wants first before his own. Even if it'll kill him inside to see us leave, he'll put our wants/desires first. Especially because he personally can understand how that feels and can relate with us.

While in og OM, the present/future, he's drunk yeah, but very upfront on his feelings over us. Since he gets very emotional while he's drunk. He states well and clear he doesn't want us to go. He wants us to stay there forever with them/him. He still cares and loves us sure, but he can't deny what his hearts wants too. Which happens to be us now...In the end of course, he lets us go. Which we had to do, whether we liked to or not because of plot. But we can leave knowing now, how he truly felt about us. How much, he truly loves us and cares about us.

Perhaps we'll see this raw emotional side of him again over us(not drunk of course) in the end of NB main story. However that might end of course...

I feel this quote honestly fits him so well even more now:

“If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's yours. If not, it was never meant to be.”

He's a big romantic, its in his nature of course. Though we know once he desires to be with someone. That's that. He never wants to let them go.

However, he wants them to always be happy and do what feels right and best to them. Even if that means he's not part of the picture in that decision...Though I'm sure, he's hoping really hard, if we were to go back home...He'll be waiting for us to come back, just for him. Or even better, stay to just be with him. Which would be a huge sacrifice for sure on our part, but a huge show of how true and devoted our love for him is to him. Which would mean everything to him.

So yeah. Asmo can come off seeming quite selfish and self centered in times, but that isn't truly the case. In the end, he always puts others happiness, needs, wants and desires before his own. As he's shown time and time again when it comes to us and his brothers, and others too he came across in his life. 💕

Now to end this post pff...

I'm happy to see some people finally are realizing this all about Asmo, and are giving him a chance now compared to the og game/story.

I know Asmo hasn't been given the best treatment from the devs, and sometimes the fans too I've noticed. Since they only see him as a annoying sex driven demon. But he's more than just the sin he's the avatar of now...Yeah he's still a demon, but he has much heart and care for his family and for us too. As well he's such a great character if you actually give him a chance to see who he really is.

Also, if there's anyone you can go to who will listen to you vent/rant your feelings out for hours, with no filters needed and all. I personally feel he's the best one to go to.

Of course though, he'll want to do your nails and all while that happens, a small price to pay sure, but will be worth it in the end I feel. Just to have someone fully listen to you and possibly give some needed comfort and helpful advice in return. Especially when it comes to love either in the form of one self or from/to another. 💖

Let's clarify something, I've never said this. I want it to be put on record.

What I did say is that soulmates dynamics usually rely heavily on symbolism. Because soulmates are not a proven real thing, unless they exist explicitly in the worldbuilding of the story, the author uses symbolism to communicate with the reader that yes, they are very conscious of what they are writing, it's written on purpose, those characters are meant for each other. Symbolism is also the literary translation of fate and destiny, obviously essential elements when talking about soulmates. Clearly, the whole symbolic level of narration means nothing in terms of the soulmates storyline if the dynamic of the couple doesn't support it (Harry and Ginny's one does).

Now, one of the many symbolic elements in Harry and Ginny's story is Ginny's name.

Let's see why.

Ginny's full name is Ginevra, an Italian name that comes from the ancient Welsh name Gwenhwyfar. Ginevra means bright spirit, or even bright elf (if someone is in the mood to write a LotR hinny AU).

Ginny throughout the series is often associated with light and warmth, both on a direct level and on a more metaphorical one, and in the last book, she is even directly described as a brilliant light. She Harry's light, she is life itself.

Therefore Ginny's name fits perfectly into the whole symbolic system around her character, a character who is actually one of the main columns of the symbolic system of the entire saga.

It doesn't end here, though.

Ginevra is the Italian version of the name Guinevere.

Guinevere happens to be the wife of King Arthur. The Arthur hero of the legend, like our Harry.

But here is when it gets interesting.

Guinevere is also pretty famous for having cheated on Arthur, this is the complete opposite of Ginny who has been devoted to Harry since before they even met in a way. Ginny has always loved Harry, even when she really didn't want to, and will always love him.

Does this mean that calling Harry's future wife Ginevra was a poor choice?

No.

Referencing a famous story, using it as a trope if you will, but then changing the ending is something that Rowling does on more than one occasion and various times specifically with Harry and Ginny.

Ginny running after the train and Harry looking at her in PS is reminiscing of many love stories, but instead of being a painful goodbye with a promise of a reunion, it's a hello. It's the first time they meet.

Harry saving Ginny from the Chamber is a situation built in a way that strongly references Orpheus and Eurydice but Harry, unlike Orpheus, manages to actually save Ginny.

In the break-up scene between Harry and Ginny, you can see the usual pattern of the hero breaking up with the love of their life because they consider themselves too dangerous, but usually what happens is that the hero lies about their own feelings in order to make sure the love interest stays away, a White Fang situation if you will. A type of scene that is reminiscent of the ending of the highly successful first Spider-Man movie (that came out only three years before HBP and might have easily influenced JKR) where Peter refuses MJ, and at a funeral of all moments. But with Harry and Ginny, Rowling once again adds her own twist. Harry doesn't lie to Ginny, he is extremely honest about his reasons and emotions, and even the things he can't tell her are things that Ginny already knows even if not in detail (that he's going after Voldemort).

In conclusion, Ginevra is definitely a name chosen very carefully. You can like it or not, but Harry and Ginny's story is one of the most clearly meticulously crafted dynamics of the series.

Fun fact: the Italian version of the name is also associated with the juniper (ginepro in Italian). The juniper in many cultures - from the ancient Greek to the Celtic one - is linked to magic and protection (Ginny is a powerful witch, and one of her arcs is her being a protector of others). Particularly in Mesopotamian mythology, it was the plant of the goddess Ištar, goddess of sex and war, who could bring death and destruction but also love and fertility (Ginny's character is basically a delicate balancing act between harshness and sweetness). To add to this, her animal was the lion (Ginny is a leo).

I'm not sure when I'll get around to actually writing it - longfics are a scary undertaking for me because I want to see them to their end, and I know just at a glance that it'd be a massive undertaking:

I am a huge nerd. Though my focus is biology, I have a visceral reaction to people spreading falsehoods or inaccurate information. I don't want to do that to part of my own history, which would mean a lot of research. Which is kind of tough, when I'm already laden with research for gradschool and history isn't my forte. Seriously, I don't want to describe a kind of paint that wouldn't exist, or the wrong type of snowshoe, or a prayer to a saint that was actually not well-regarded. Because this is a very rural context, I couldn't easily handwave a lot of the details without detracting from the immersion. So I need to know how Vex would skin and sell beaver pelts, and the going-rates for materials for Percy's pepperbox or I'll go completely insane and tear my hair out in shame.

I think trans Vax would fit into this setting super well (get an extra dowry from the king by posing as another Fille du Roi with his sister, even if he's Absolutely Not), but. Though I'm queer, I'm not trans, and want to respect Vax and not just have him endure getting misgendered by the church and crown constantly.

I also do not want to whitewash the history of Nouvelle-France: the French stole this land from the Native American people that lived here and co-opted them into their conflicts. There is a long history of discrimination, and genocide, that I'd want to tackle carefully, both as a white author, and because Vex and Vax would be Métis, with a French father. It's delicate, in a way that other historical AUs usually sidestep. Season 3 Ramble#3 - The Martial Way ver.2

This month, as you probably picked up from the ramble title, I focused on reading martial arts manga for the second time because once was just never gonna be enough.

~[before I get into the episode I have a moment of silence for akira toriyama sensei who passed on earlier this… his legendary impact on media as a whole is beyond what my feeble words could hope to describe so a minute of silence is probably the most appropriate thing I could do. rest in power toriyama sensei.]~

The format is pretty much the same as last time, the meat of the matter is that I'll be speaking on the top 5 martial arts manga I read this month, focusing not so much on plot but more on what I think are the 4 cornerstones of martial arts manga, namely; art, action, technique and philosophy. For each manga in the list I'll be talking on these 4 things and giving them a rating on a 5 star scale.

I won't be talking about older top favorites this time so I encourage you to check out v.1 if you're interested but I will be doing what should be a quick breeze through of some martial arts manga I caught up on this month before I got into the newer reads.

THIS MONTH

#5) Kenji (art by Yoshihide Fujiwara and story by Ryuchi Matsuda, complete w 202 chapters)

Didn't have much expectations going into this one. I picked it up because the summary I saw on anilist listed a bunch of different martial art styles and among them was tai chi which I practice. So as someone who’s interested in different forms of mind and body tempering through martial arts, I figured even if the manga wasn’t particularly good, the exposure would be.. Glad to say my expectations were exceeded which is probably apparent as it’s one of my top 5 reads this month. but enough idle chatter.

The story here centers on a boy named Kenji (shocker), who is taught the basics of an ancient form of chinese kung fu called Bajiquan from his grandfather at an early age. When his grandfather suddenly has to leave the country to fulfill a promise to an old friend, Kenji decides he must keep practicing so he can have the strength to follow after his grandfather and present his growth as a person and martial artist proudly when they meet again.

Art - 3 / 5 stars

It was pretty unique but not altogether super impressive. When I say unique I mean that most of the manga had a sort of calligraphy or deceptively real water colour painting vibe, which I usually really dig for impact in action scenes or so but for this it was the whole way through so it kind of lost that effect. It did end up having a neat Chinese scroll type vibe with the whole calligraphy feeling I was getting though and it was solid throughout so no real complaints.

Action - 3 / 5 stars

The action wasn’t very impressive either. Undeniably and consistently solid but there were rarely any real wow factors. The mood or atmosphere surrounding the action was always very fitting though, usually engaging and immersive so although the illustrations weren’t anything to lose my mind over, holistically I found the fights quite pleasing.

Technique - 5 / 5 stars

Technique variety and illustration was pretty top tier. As in to the point where a good chunk of this manga feels like beginner kung fu for dummies, even going so far as to show numbered step by step illustrations for a lot of moves used. Most of the story actually unfolds this way as Kenji has nobody to teach him when his grandfather left and the only lead he had to go on was his kungfu. So in seeking out and practicing with different interim teachers, he ends up traveling from Japan deep into mainland China, gaining new friends and foes along the way. What I really really loved was how his core technique developed over time, as in yes he got new techniques within his original style and a few tricks and tweaks from other styles he interacted with, but what got him through from the beginning was sharpening the core fundamentals his grandfather taught him when he was a kid. And when I say got him through I don't mean just in fights, I mean that to be accepted by certain people in the martial arts world you have to be able to prove yourself as a martial artist in your own right first, which more often than being able to do a flashy killer move, really means being able to show a certain level of dedication to cultivating the art you claim to practice. Also loved seeing how the variety, views on and uses of martial arts changed as he traveled from Japan to China.

Philosophy - 5 / 5 stars

Philosophy here was top notch stuff. The best I've read in a long time and definitely top 2, if not the best in that aspect this month. It's so great that I'd really want it to speak for itself as much as possible so I won't be going into much detail but I will say I really appreciated the importance placed on strength of mind and character in no uncertain terms.

#4) Under Ninja (story & art by Kengo Hanazawa {also known for being the creator of the manga, I am a Hero}, 115 chapters ongoing)

This story follows ninja in the modern day and shows the struggles between different ninja ranks, organizations and the government.

Art - 4 / 5 stars

Was pretty cool, very cool even, sort of sharp in a kind of overtly digital way I tend not to like too much but it was still cool. Especially with all the rad spreads they had sprinkled throughout.

Action - 4 / 5 stars

It was odd in a good way that's kinda hard to describe. Maybe because of how well they modernized the ninja in my mind. As in the methods of combat were for the most part fairly recognizable (sword, shuriken, camouflage) but they were presented in such a fresh way from a modern technological standpoint + it all takes place within the context of a modern city landscape and everything,, pretty rad pretty rad.

One definitely kinda odd thing was the choreography. It wasn't very fluid or detailed how I'd usually like my action manga. This almost had a laggy game type feel which I'd usually not rate, or even hate, but because the main focus was ninja I couldn't help but think that was the creator’s intention. As in a ninja’s whole thing is to be unseen so how would an illustration of them and their activities really look yk. And unlike what's been popularized by Naruto with lots of hand to hand combat and big flashy moves, especially later on, I think it definitely leans more toward what was shown here in under ninja, with more of an “in n out" / “now you see me now you don't" type feel.

Technique - 5 / 5 stars

The techniques were pretty rad too, especially because of the technology, as I said very fresh stuff like the creator definitely had a very clear vision of how they thought a modern ninja would act. Very cool that they didn't go the usual route of just having a traditional ninja in the modern day but it actually looked and felt like how ninja may carry themselves had they advanced along with society from what we know of them back then. There wasn't any specific martial art used perse but in any case I really liked how they illustrated the "attack” of a ninja. As in it's not all hand signs and ninja stars, we get a more holistic view of the strategies employed from something as simple as misdirection to something as crazy as a fucking satellite laser. absolutely loved it. crazy crazy work I'm telling you.

Philosophy - 2 / 5 stars

There doesn't seem to be any great cause or meaning to much so far tbh. Which although generally important, isn't anything hyper critical in a fighting story, but as a cornerstone of martial arts in general it's something I look forward to seeing expressed uniquely by different creators in martial arts manga. For the most part in under ninja the thinking seems to be “complete the mission and fuck you if you try to get in my way” which I guess is fitting for ninja tbh but grain of salt here, it's ongoing and where I left off the story kinda took a mad left and a bunch of stuff is coming to light so I wouldn't be surprised if my view on the philosophy of under ninja changes when I come back to it next year.

#3) Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru (story & art by Yasushi Baba, complete w 500 chapters)

This is the journey of a guy who couldn’t make it as a gymnast and was bullied out of his club somehow becoming a karateka

Art - 5 / 5 stars

Pretty great in all the senses, casual and action wise. It was great and there's not much else to say there so no point lingering.

Action - 5 / 5 stars

Action was pretty great too, kept steadily building in intensity and technicality as the story progressed and the main character developed as a martial artist. Choreography was pretty up there as well, maybe not exceedingly dynamic perse like Sakamoto Days but it was all clear and fluid which is ultimately more important in stories dependent on action sequences. I will say they did have a lot of explody effects tho like.. idk… they were generally really cool tbh but would have probably been fine without THAT much, like the impact of each individual bomb effect kinda falls off when you're constantly carpet bombing yk,,, anyways the action was still a 5 so clearly it didn't bother me THAT much, just thought it kinda odd…

Technique - 3 / 5 stars

Was pretty solid in terms of illustrating, naming and using a variety of techniques but it fell kinda short behind the others because the techniques were like 93% Karate, and of that 93% about 80% was the specific kind of karate used by the mc, whereas pretty much all the other manga in this list showed more than a few other martial arts or at least had stronger individualization of a technique through its practitioner as was the case in under ninja and the next manga on this list. What was shown was pretty solid though and fairly thorough so it held up. variety is the spice of life and all but variety paradoxically encompasses a lack of variety so,, it is what it is.

Philosophy - 3 / 5 stars

Not bad, again pretty solid but nothing too crazy. could kind of be boiled down to different personal views on karate and maybe a bit of fighting on a whole but they didn't really push past how that affects the way one carries themselves outside the ring too much. Kind of an aside but I did appreciate that they had a fair bit of slice of life which is where you could see a bit, in action more than word, the various ways different martial arts practitioners carried themselves.

#2) Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls (original story by Fuutarou Yamada with story & art by Masaki Segawa, complete w 34 chapters)

Basically Romeo and Juliet but if they were ninjas. families. I could give a bit more detail but honestly that pretty much covers it and I already said this ramble wasn't really gonna be too plot focused.

Art - 3 / 5 stars

Sort of overtly digital in a scanny kind of way that I usually wouldn't like but for the most part it was solid enough where it counted.

Action - 4 / 5 stars

Ultra vibes, especially for how short it was, just 34 chapters but they used them extremely well as pretty much from the jump the atmosphere was constantly building. Fight scenes were clear although not very consistently fluid but the core choreography of the fights was definitely there. Something I really liked was how it could have easily been done as a standard tournament type beat or your average battle royale but all the confrontations were pretty dynamic throughout the story, shuffling through 1 v 1s, gang v 1s and gang v gang seamlessly. not to mention the pretty cool and unique techniques they all had.

Technique - 5 / 5 stars

Actual old school ninja stuff which was very cool although ultra hyper specific. Basically there were 20 main characters with 10 on each side, all having some unique jutsu that they alone could use. This could've made stuff play out in a sort of almost obvious rock paper scissors type thing but the way they introduced/removed characters throughout the story and juggled opposing character interactions was just so well done that it never got boring.

Philosophy - 4 / 5 stars

Tbh most of the cast didn't have all that much about them philosophy wise. As I said this was a kind of Romeo and Juliet type beat so besides the main pair they all just hated the other family. There's some very light sprinkling of something you could probably call philosophy through the rest of the main cast as their individual jutsu sort of mirrors their beliefs, so you could almost say they're all literal embodiments of their beliefs but that's not exactly a one size fits all thing and is probably more of a stretch than anything. In any case this gets a 4 because of how moved I was by the main pairings actions. especially because of how little chapters there were so it hit all the more. If I go into detail about such actions it'd be spoilers so what can I say but to go check it out.

#1) Tekken Chinmi (story & art by Takeshi Maekawa{breakshot, #1 S2R8}, read 131/158)

A talented lad named chinmi is seen in action by a traveling monk who invites him to further train at his temple. Simple shonen type beat except the hero’s journey isn't really thrust upon him, he kinda just actually goes on the journey willingly which is kinda refreshing. #end the era of child soldiers.

Art - 4 / 5 stars

Really easy to digest, kinda toony but well proportioned, has a really smooth old school vibe to it like you look at it and immediately succumb to the propaganda that everything really was better back then.

Action - 4 / 5 stars

Great all round, great choreo, great flow, pretty solid dynamics and I really dug how they showed that lessons learned in one thing can typically be applied to every other thing. As in he'd learn a martial art skill and it'd help him improve in a day to day situation or vice versa.

Technique - 5 / 5 stars

Widely varied, usually unique and v cool, as in they had from a Poison hand guy, to a one legged cane weilder and even someone who used a one finger technique. It was really great and sort of inspiring to see him improve step by step, from teacher to teacher and from fight to fight. Really loved that when he got new techniques he didn't just spam that from then on, he stuck with sharpening himself holistically and never using more force than necessary. Also dug that even though he was definitely quick on the uptake for story's sake there wasn't anything he ever just got immediately. He'd always have to take the time to sit and think through how to get some desired effect, which is what gave rise to his sometimes unique applications of certain techniques.

Philosophy - 5 / 5 stars

Loved how close they made everything to nature, nature even being his teacher a few times. Again the philosophy here was so great I want it to speak for itself but I loved the hammering of the importance of both body and mind. the philosophy here was definitely right up there with shinji though it felt a bit warmer here for lack of a better word.

Also I hate how they make Harry big and strong and Draco delicate and feminine in Drarry fics sorry but Harry is the delicate, small one. Draco is canonically taller than him and Harry is always described as small and thin for his age. “But he got strong bc of Quiddich!” How tho? The role of seeker is the least demanding physically. And it he was to fill up bc of Quiddich wouldn’t that apply to Draco too? I just hate how people try to force top Harry onto things. He’s a bottom.

I do see Mukuro as someone who eats out a lot. If he’s not up to going out, I think he survives on junk food – chips and instant ramen are a lot of what he eats. He likes spicier chips and his go-to instant ramen is Ippudo Tonkotsu Ramen.

How would they describe their perfect vacation?

Eventful. Mukuro does have his moments where he wants a little breathing room but mostly, he’s not one to sit around and do nothing. He wouldn’t take true vacations often, since even when travelling, he has plans and things in the works that he’s keeping himself occupied with.

It’s a tie between Machiavelli’s The Prince and Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morality.

I think I would compare Mukuro to a worn-in pair of good leather boots. Strong enough to take a beating, practical and long-lasting, but changeable enough to go with a lot of different things.

I’m going to cheat here but Mukuro has a leitmotif in the anime that I think really fits him perfectly and at least the first five or six seconds play in my head every time he showed up in the manga.

Honestly, nobody cleans out the mini fridge in Kokuyo Land enough…there’s a little piece off a block of cheese that is old enough to have filled the entire Ziploc baggie it’s in with mold.

It’s ice cream. Mukuro changes his favourite flavour of ice cream up a lot, but he normally does have a tub hidden in the back of the little freezer. Doesn’t really matter though, because no matter how much stuff he piles in front of it, Ken or Fran ends up eating it on him before Mukuro actually wants it…maybe Chikusa once or twice, though Ken still ends up getting blamed.

What’s their weirdest bedtime ritual?

Mukuro has to brush his teeth. Pretty normal, yeah…except he brushes them one by one, first along the bottom and then along the top, going tooth by individual tooth. He always ‘forgets’ to floss though; the feeling of the waxy string kind of drives him insane, especially since he has sensitive gums.

Who/what is the one thing that can make them smile no matter how terrible their day has been?

Honestly, not to get too sappy but it is Ken and Chikusa, and then eventually Chrome and Fran too. As someone who never really had the luxury of a family or of people he could rely on, those four, while they drive him insane and while he isn’t above using them (though they willing consent to it), are really his own version of a safe, happy, warm place.

Where do they go when they need some time alone?

Mukuro is lucky enough in that, when he needs to retreat, he doesn’t need to go far. If it’s safe for him to do so, he simply retreats into his mind. Given the powers he has, his mind is more of a retreat than most other people’s, obviously.

What’s one conspiracy theory that they secretly agree with?

Mukuro has very little faith in the world, honestly, and he could easily be convinced of most conspiracy theories, with the only one he strongly disbelieves in being the whole flat earth theory.

Who’s the person they most want to tell when they hear a funny joke?

Honestly, it’s usually Chikusa or Chrome. Ken is too easy to make laugh so there’s no satisfaction there. Fran will just insult any joke. Both Chikusa and Chrome, while near impossible to make laugh, do both have senses of humour, and there’s a sense of accomplishment Mukuro feels in making either of them laugh.

What’s the first section of the newspaper (or online news source) that they check each day?

Mukuro subscribes to a lot of different news sites and does check them, keeping an eye on both major world news, on smaller news stories in places where the Mafia has strongholds, and in the tabloids, which tell the truth far more than people would think.

Who would they call to bail them out of jail? Bonus points if you describe why they were arrested!

This one is kind of obvious, as it’s shown in canon that he calls the rest of the Kokuyo Gang, including M.M. when he needs to be broken out of jail. He’s likely arrested on one of the many, many crimes he’s wanted for, let’s be honest. Mukuro isn’t exactly the picture of the ideal, law-abiding citizen.

What’s the one scent that most reminds them of home?

Blood. With the human experimentation being such a big part of his youth, and then the infiltration and slaughter of Lanchia’s family being another big part of his childhood, the smell of blood almost permeates all his memories of ‘home’ for him, though he’s learning to replace that smell with the smell of the damp earth, wet dog, apples, and that fancy smelling body soap that Chikusa likes so much.

What do they consider their greatest achievement?

Though he doesn’t consider his greatest achievement accomplished yet, as I do believe that, even at the end of the story, Mukuro does still have an intent to wipe out the rotted, evil parts of the Mafia world, I do think the fact that he has escaped Vindice prison, TWICE, which is supposed to be inescapable, is something he’s definitely a little proud of.

How much time do they spend on the internet each day?

I do think that, while the internet is a source of information for Mukuro, it’s not his main or only source, and that he really does keep his internet time relatively short, no more than a couple hours a day.

What’s their go-to procrastination activity?

Mukuro doesn’t really procrastinate all that often, actually. He’s pretty motivated and ambitious as a person but when he is putting something off, he normally spends a lot of time with the others, letting them drag him into stuff or deliberately provoking odd situations just to have the excuse to put off whatever it is that he genuinely doesn’t want to do.

If someone were to make a movie of their life, who would they want to play them?

Nobody. Absolutely nobody. Mukuro’s story would never get told because it’s not really one he wants publicly told and he would honestly stop it from getting out or ever even being thought of as a movie.

Is there a number in their phone that they should definitely delete but just can’t seem to erase?

He still has Lanchia’s cell phone number and he updates it every time that the man changes it. He really doesn’t need it…it’s just a ‘to be safe’ feeling that having it gives Mukuro.

Hi! Anon with the Sadie Churchill Oc! I have more lore! First, she ends up at Lackadaisy. I feel like she'd fit in better there. Plus, with her on their team, they have magick power. Just like how Marigold does with Nico and Serafine! How she ends up there or what she does, I don't know. Second, Walter or the Wraith only heavily influences Sadie. Meaning, he doesn't possess her, just gives her powers to do the killing. Unless he's really really pissed off. Which usually happens when Roscoe's present. Other than that, it's kind of like a Venom type of situation, without the who alien goo thingy and way more detached. Now, onto the lore which, is just a new Oc! Nicolas Seals. Once again, don't have a picture, but I can describe him. He's a Russian blue cat and a freelancing private detective that's tracking down what he dubs as "The Siren Killer". Which is Sadie, btw. He gave her this nickname, because her victims, when they aren't all over the place, have their ear drums busted out and their brains are turned into mush. Almost like they've been exposed to some kind of harmful frequencies.

He's a nice and friendly guy, but a bit of a stickler, hardass about the law. So much so that he lives up to his last name, Seals. Because every case he's ever been on, is a case closed. A serial killer on the loose? He'd have the identity of the murder within a year, tops. Robbers and Bootleggers that keep getting away? Behind bars, no time flat. While, those cases are well and good, catching speakeasies in the act is where he shines! Any Speakeasy he walks into, you might as well count it as closed when he leaves. Doesn't even matter if you hide the alcohol in the floorboards, he will find it. There is no, "Bribing him to turn the other cheek" like a lower paid officer in 1920s. He does his job and he does it well. Sometimes, a little too well.

He's only like this though, because his parents were murdered when he was young. And the police never found out who did. So, he vowed he'd be the best detective he could be so, no criminals, like the ones that killed his parents, would get away, like that, again.

He is also supposed to be Sadie's love interest in the present day.

He has a very handsome face. Sharp jaw, good cheekbones, strong nose. That and his bright ass hair often make him stand out.

face: Describe your OC's face. What's their smile like? Are their orbs cerulean? What would someone notice first when looking at them?

Oh oops, I need to read these in advance. Anyways a very nice face. He's pretty stereotypically attractive. Additionally, his left eye is missing and he often covers it with bandages. He also has freckles for days! All over his face and other areas. His visible eye is a very bright blue but does sometimes become red. The very obvious bandages are the first thing often noticed though.

stature: What's your OC's body type? How tall are they? Do they wear clothing to accentuate their look or do they try to mask it?

He's lean but strong, like a slightly less muscular swimmer. He's 189cm. His clothing isn't super loose but it isn't very tight either. it's more for his movement than his body.

Very flexible! His clothing is loose enough to allow a full range of movement, but tight enough he isn't dealing with any extra fabric. He's very unpredictable in his movements, but seemingly coordinated?

stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves while at rest?

ADHD galore. Bounces his leg, fidgets with his clothes, twirls his hair, ect. He wears a scarf specifically so he can tug at the frayed edges.

canvas: Does your OC have any scars, piercings, tattoos, or other markings? Do they display or cover them up at all?

He is fully missing his left eye, it is Gone. He has a giant scar over the socket. He does have both his ears pierced and his right eyebrow pierced. He has a lot of body scars, just everywhere, covered in them. He also has a tattoo on his inner right wrist of what looks like a very odd abstract compass.

day: What does your OC wear on a normal day? Why do they default to those clothes? Do they wear similar things, or do they change it up?

I haven't finalised his physical design, but I do know he tends to wear leather armour between a layer of clothing. He also wears a dark blue scarf around his neck that has a slightly frayed end. The scarf isn't very long though, it probably isn't his. Given he's on the move a lot, he doesn't have a high quantity of clothing, but he has a couple of different outfits he'll change up.

road: What does your OC wear while traveling? Do they have high-quality equipment, or are they making do? What does their gear look like?

His prized possession is his sword which is clearly well loved and taken care of. He also also tends to wear clothing that fits in the environment he's travelling in.

armor: What kind of armor does your OC wear? Is it well kept? Bonus: where does it come from? Is there a story behind it?

Dark stained brown leather armour mostly, but sometimes he'll wear heavier stuff if its prompted. There's no real story behind his armour, he's had it a long time.

arms: Does your OC have any weapons? What weapons do they carry, and how do they wear them when they're not fighting?

A lot. A sword, a bow, several daggers, poison vials. The bow is usually attached to a device on his back, while his sword is holstered on his right hip in a sheath. His daggers and poison vials are hidden in various locations on his body.

texture: Does your OC favor any specific kinds of cloth or textures? Is there anything they can't wear or don't like? What sort of fabrics do they prefer?

He hates velvet. He prefers breathable fabrics, things that don't feel as suffocating or heavy. Ajax isn't particularly picky, he'll still wear it if given to him. But he wouldn't choose it.

bling: What jewelry does your OC wear? Does it have any meaning?

His piercings aside, he also wears an amulet underneath his clothing. It's supposed to represent protection, his mother gave it to him before he went to the academy. It's seen better days.

favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?

No not particularly, besides his necklace? Ajax doesn't really care, most things can be replaced.

change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?

I mean. The eye thing, that was pretty drastic. And hoo boy was he MAD about that..

can i interest you lot in Filbeffloofty

Alright first things first they’ve got this dynamic as a throuple. Beffica and Floofty are constantly teasing and sarcastic with each other, Beffica is often the more frontward with it while Floofty lays in and goes along, and then Filbo is like a neutral force who isn’t sarcastic or a teaser so he’ll add on in a more genuine way that still fits. He gets the sarcasm, and their teasing, but he isn’t one to be big with it himself.

And that really describes the basics of their dynamic, you’ve got two who are on the meaner end and then one who’s far good and knows the other two are on the mean end. Loves them for all the meanness they are and eventually Squeeb became a term of endearment of sorts.

The relationship definitely started with Beffica. She fell head first for someone she teased as well as someone who’s a reject and she was going to show it. But also, those two were people that would’ve been good for her, who could support her; when she’s someone who’s a reject and lost everything, she needed two types of people. The friend of everyone, and the one who understood her, if not exactly. Filbo doesn’t understand her experience, but knows she needs a shoulder to cry on, and Floofty understands her but isn’t as emotionally driven as Filbo. In return, she gave them what she could; herself, true and genuine herself.

As for Filbo and Floofty, their steps for getting together were a lot slower. Beffica was definitely a joining force, and it started out as her dating both of them without them dating each other. But, as time went on, I feel like Floofty got more and more interested in how Filbo could be who he was. Pathetic, and with a lot of loose ends, but still going on and trying to be a friend to everyone. They found him interesting because of how he always tried. For Filbo’s side, the attraction to Floofty came in their neutrality. They’re a smartass, but not as actively hostile as Beffica, and they’re certainly worthy of their achievements. He found them interesting because it seemed like nothing really tore them down. It was with the two of them that their relationship became a full poly.

Their relationship does have a couple problems. When two of them have a love language that’s crudely teasing each other, it’s inevitable that sometimes, a line might go overstepped when they’re getting carried away. It’s mostly when Filbo is involved and something is said that doesn’t quite sit right with him, and he’ll ask them to simmer down. If something really mean is said while they’re caught in a moment, and all three of them end up upset for a time, it can stir a bit of trouble. Beffica’s biggest fear is losing both of them; generally, she’s the one saying something that’s the worst when she gets too comfortable. When they need time apart to settle down, it’s the scariest part for her specifically. Floofty tends to sit and analyze their feelings when they end up getting hurt or hurting one of the others; they love their partners deeply, so why did they say that? In a relationship that makes them feel happy, the least thing they wanted to do was hurt. They’re the one who finds it the hardest to own it up to themself, and mostly end up confusing themself, but they’re also quick to apologize, even if they can’t explain it. When Filbo takes time to step back, all he wants right away is for it to stop. There’s nothing fun about the tension, and he knows neither of them mean to hurt him, but it still hurt. When he feels better, he’s the fastest to forgive, because he just wants normalcy again.

They’re all usually good about not being too mean, though, and the slip-ups are healed by their strength together. Filbo is quick to forgive and accept, Beffica is quick to want to fix it and be over, and Floofty is quick to admit, accept, and overcome.

As for their happiness in the relationship, so sorry for starting off with all of that

I already stated that their biggest benefit is their cohesive support. Filbo is a friend to all and wants people to be happy, Beffica is scared and needs a friend and an understanding, and Floofty is analytical and grounding. This makes long, deep conversations between the three of them interesting and sometimes enlightening from the blend of varying experiences. They give each other perspectives that can say a lot and mean a lot. Not to mention, Beffica’s will to be open and be herself for a grounded conversation isn’t something she gives a lot of people.

Filbo brings whimsy and playfulness to their lives. He’s the one to grab them by the paws and pull them along, happy to see the day start, happy to be there. To Beffica, that can be a brace for her own positivity, to have someone beaming before her to let go with. To Floofty, it’s closeness, to be himself and happily himself with both of them is something they wish they can do when they understand themself more.

What’s a relationship I’m going nuts about without the cuddling? These three are no exception.

As always, for me to formulate their cuddling headcanons, I need to note their body types. Beffica and Floofty are plus sized, while Filbo is thinner and taller but still kind of chunky. they’re bread he meat cheese (what)

also mind that i interpret them with animal features, and as such, Filbo is a deer, Beffica is a raccoon, and Floofty is a bunny

I’ve said before that Beffica and Floofty wouldn’t fit comfortable in a single bed together like in their huts, and that still applies especially with a third, and that’s why I will interest you in them and their three people bed (assuming they have one let’s go post snaktooth)

When they’re sleeping, they’ve got the formula for their comfort. Filbo sleeps in the middle, and I know it sounds strange to put the skinnier one in the middle but that boy has antlers and can’t just sleep on his side. Generally, Beffica will sleep on his right (closer to the door and the lamp,) and Floofty will sleep on his left (the darker side of the room.)

As for actual poses, there can’t be any spooning because the little spoon can’t be sideways. But, they’ll both get close to him however works or is comfortable. Beffica is often the one getting closest, she’s pulling herself closer to him and curling up, sometimes holding his arm. Floofty sleeps with their back towards the other two, but still huddled against them, sometimes with Filbo’s arm underneath them.

Getting close with people faster than she expected to had some effects on Beffica, one of them being sometimes having nights where she felt especially sensitive and clinging on to both of them. It’s those nights where she’s allowed to be the one in the middle, letting the other two focus on affection. Filbo will sleep close to her and a little on top of her, in a position where his antlers sink into the bountiful fluff of her collar. Floofty, with their very long arms, is able to wrap around her waist to keep themself close, and also tuck their head into her fluff. it feel good feel big good aaaaAAAA AAAAAA

For other ship dynamic things. None of them are really that good at cooking but Filbo makes a killer breakfast, Beffica a lovely brunch, and Floofty a fine dessert. All of them are keeping it financially stable with Floofty getting paid well as a professor, Beffica becoming a fashionista after Snaktooth, and Filbo being… the mayor. Beffica is the whore
