I try to for long-running fics and for especially long or intense comments, but I’m usually just so nervous ;<; they all warm my heart tho, there is not one that I haven’t read more than once

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I’m typically allergic to straight tragedy, but... I think probably Put your Stampler in a box (D&Dads), since the whole thing is a hypothetical lead-up to a magic teenager going on a rampage. Mind over Matter has a really emotional ending, but I like to think it’s more bittersweet than straight angst. Fourteen, and four thousand, years old swerves into angst, but nobody’s dying or anything so... yeah!

Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Heroes Under Drinking Age is the incomplete MASSIVE thing which is supposed to ultimately crossover Danny Phantom, RC9GN, American Dragon, and Kim Possible. I hit a hard writing wall on the ADJL and KP side and just never got over it :( I still dream of finishing it

Oh I guess there’s also a TMA-D&Dads crossover I’ve put some thought into, where after s5 Jon and Martin land in Faerun to replace The Library, and they get to decompress in this strange world, meet the Likelys, and hear about the eldritch-adjacent beings from other worlds.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Nope! (knocks on all the wood) at least not if you’re not counting someone pointing out spelling stuff unsolicited or stuff like that.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

when I did Demons not sold separately (D&Dads) they kiss like two times and talk about the prospect of doing more, but it doesn’t go anywhere cause there’s kids nearby. I tagged it as “ace writing allos” just in case, cause boy howdy do I not know what I’m doing in that department ^u^’

I’ve also got a number of AUs for DnDads, some with enough written that I may as well post some of the stuff as one-shots to maybe expand on later. One is a high school au where Hen (14) comes to Earth early, another is an exploration of what it might be like to be a sort of demi-god descendant of a chaos entity with the Doodler Cult coming back (called Puberty, ????, and You). Idk if Done Sons and Dragons counts, cause that’d be a whole comic. I’d love to publish something of at least one of these

And then there’s a half-baked idea for Yet Another Oscar Time Travel AU for RWBY, that would take place starting after v8 and would feature Oscar and Emerald traveling back to the series start (on purpose.)

What are your writing strengths?

I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on my prose and scene pacing! I like writing prose like it’s the thought process of the character I’m following, and I often find myself getting a bit poetic about it. I’m a big fan of parallelisms and using repetition for impact.

I also put a lot into trying to match the original tone of the content I’m writing fic for, and have gotten quite a few compliments on my character dialogue. I just get their voices in my brain and they don’t leave. On only one occasion have they paid rent. The freeloaders.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I bite off more than I can chew and never finish

I worry a lot over making sure emotional beats connect, and that it doesn’t feel like I’m jumping from point A to point C, and I’m afraid that makes me over-explain point B. Like I was rereading HUDA: Alpha after I posted it to ao3, and I have a lot of grace for my high school self, but some parts of that fic could have been smoothed out quite a bit. Parts of Mind over Matter are a bit wordier than they needed to be, too.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I feel like it’s best done by people who are fluent in a language. Language isn’t just changing words from A to B, it comes with cultural connotations and altered meanings and layers that are only going to come across perfectly when it comes from someone who knows exactly what they’re talking about. so like if I were ever to use more than a few words or a common phrase in another language in a fic, I’d find someone who actually speaks it to help me out.

as for how to format it... if the meaning needs to be understood by the reader, you may as just put it in the fic’s main language and alter the formatting (like with itallics) or dialogue tag to denote that they’re speaking another language. If it’s small bits, I don’t super mind footnotes at the bottom or just leaving it untranslated, like a special bit for people who speak the language or are willing to look it up.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

warrior cats! me, my best friend, and my older sister all had OCs and were part of RainClan, our OC clan. Their camp was made in the trunk and branches of a big willow tree that made a kind of sheltered dome. I didn’t even know what fanfiction was back then

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Mind over Matter. Hands down. For one, it’s actually done. That would put it in contest with The Way Out, which is also multi-chapter and complete, but MoM is WAY longer and took SO much more work but was SO worth it. It started as just scratching an itch and then grew into something that helped me prove to myself that I can do a long-term project, including themes and foreshadowing and narrative hootenanny and character arcs and character relationship arcs. the html coding. It was a great time, I’m so proud of it, editing it helped build one of my best friendships, and there is nothing I would trade that experience for.

Top 10 Drarry Fic Recs

When I say the Drarry-ship saved me, I don’t kid. I stumbled upon this pairing (which is now my OTP) as I was going through a particularly anxious phase of my life. These fics made me laugh, cry and generally succeeded in distracting me from falling down a terrible anxiety spiral.

I thought it’s only fair that I make a top 10 list in the hope that it may help others like me. I will forever be grateful to @capiturecs @justdrarryme @o0o-chibaken-o0o @sleepydrarry @drarryspecificrecs @dictacontrion @dragontamerdrarry and several others for their wonderful wonderful fic recs.

Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm by SquadOfCats @norelationtoatticus (104k, E)

Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.

This fic was just 104k words of utter perfection. The hilarious and emotional moments are so well balanced that you can’t help laugh and cry alternately at 3AM. Parent!Harry to insecure wonderful Teddy is just lovely to read. Draco’s cooking shenanigans and his relationship with his house-elves had me in fits. I highly recommend this.

Harry has had quite enough of sharing his mind with someone else, thankyouverymuch. A miscast Legilimecy spell says otherwise.

What can I say about this fic that hasn’t already been said? This was the fic that took me down the Drarry rabbit hole and boy, am I glad that I took the ride. Harry and Draco’s evolving relationship is so well executed in this one. It’s the perfect enemies-to-lovers transition. Plus, legilimency SMUT and super supportive friends! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS. I would recommend everything by this author; especially Number Seven.

Turn by Sara’s Girl (306k, E)

One good turn always deserves another. Apparently.

This one is long and will hit you right in the feels. I’m a sucker for ‘being-sucked-into-an-alternate-reality’ fics and this one is right at the top of that list. Artist!Harry, Journalist!Draco and their sassy pet snake are to die for. And little Maura is just adorable goodness. This was also the fic that made me ship Ginny/Blaise. It’s so well written and beautifully executed. Go read it!

In the middle of their second year, Draco and Harry discover they're soulmates and do their best to keep it a secret from everyone.

Their best isn't perfect.

I tend to avoid WIPs but this one is truly worth the wait. If not for the adorable Drarry, read this one for the wonderful magical theory. Alchemy, necromancy, astral projections and charms theories sent my nerdy soul into a tizzy. I love a clever (bordering on genius) Draco, and this book delivers. It also has a wonderful Sirius/Remus relationship and their attempts at parenting Harry are so so cute! Nagini, Abigail and Theophania lived up to all my parseltongue dreams. Also I’m Indian, so a desi Harry sent my heart fluttering. (I know I’m gushing now but SIAT is just THAT good.)

Over the six years Draco Malfoy has been an Auror, four of his partners have turned up dead. Harry Potter is assigned as his newest partner to investigate just what is going on.

This fic is the answer to all the AurorPartners!Drarry requests. It’s so well written and the growing sexual tension is palpable. Their fights and banter are spot on and you end up rooting for those two so hard. I recommend everything by @firethesound. I have read at least 6 of their fics and loved each and every one.

We Are Young (I'll Carry You Home Tonight) by @femmequixotic (68K, E)

Harry and Draco have been falling into bed on and off again since the last election five years ago, much to the amusement--and financial gain--of their circle of friends. But when Harry agrees to work with Draco to put Kingsley Shacklebolt into the Minister's office, they can't work side-by-side again every day and sleep together; that would be courting disaster. Wouldn't it?

Friends-with-benefits, housemates and oblivious Drarry! Need I say more? Also, I LOVED all the politics in this, including a crazy screaming Blaise. Again, I recommend everything by @femmequixotic. The writing just makes me feel so many feels!

You're dead, Potter... I'm going to make you pay..."

Draco swore his revenge on Harry for Lucius's imprisonment, and Harry all but laughed at him. But Draco is planning more than schoolyard pranks this time. The old rivalry turns deadly when Draco abducts Harry for Voldemort. It's the perfect plan, guaranteeing revenge, power, and prestige, all in one blow. But when Draco's world turns upside down, the fight to save himself and Harry begins, and the battle will take them both through hell and back. If they come back.

Ahh, I don’t even know where to start with this one. Their enmity, careful hesitation, sacrifice and love had me in tears. I was so scared for them throughout their treacherous journey across the forest. This fic is super long and perfect for angst lovers. I was unable to put it down, EVEN TO SLEEP. The blood magic and clever Draco had me falling for it hard and I’m sincerely hoping there will be a sequel at some point. (Though it is old, so it’s not probable)

How I met your father by @dracogotgame (95K, M)

Harry sits his kids down and tells them a story. A very long story.

If you’re a HIMYM fan and are looking for a light Drarry fic, this one’s for you. The similarities to HIMYM were well done without being over the top while maintaining a ton of originality. The anticipation leading up to Harry and Draco’s first meeting was so good. Oh, and the ending was perfect, unlike HIMYM’s.

Men Who Love Dragons Too Much by fencer_x, IDoodleForNoodles (479K, E)

[Extensive re-telling of Deathly Hallows] ‘Kill Albus Dumbledore’ is less a challenging task and more a suicide mission, so when Draco Malfoy is presented with the option to either dispatch his Headmaster or suffer an excruciating and most ignominious death of his own, along with his parents, he reaches deep into his black little Slytherin heart and manages to scrape together enough courage to go with option C instead: Spend Sixth Year secretly studying Animagecraft in the hopes he’ll turn into something sufficiently imposing even the Dark Lord himself won’t be able to keep Draco under his thumb. But just his luck, his Animagus form turns out to be a dragon, and a rather randy juvenile at that, intent on finding its mate: one Harry James Potter.

Okay, I had to include at least one Horcruxes hunt fic. AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST ONE. How could it not be? Dragon Animagus Draco and his mate Harry? Recipe for perfection. It’s long and it’s an amazing read. NOW GO READ IT!

A change in perspective by Roozette (121K, M)

Once there was a potions accident... Ha! Harry turns five, much to the distress of the I don't want to be a Death Eater brigade.

I love adorable de-aging fics and this one is just too cute. The storyline is a little ridiculous but read it for the relationships and the cuteness. Harry’s love for his snakes is just heart melting and Draco is at his adorablest-best. Hermione’s pet name for Harry had me crying and laughing. Hands down, the sweetest de-aging fic I’ve read and I think I could read it again and again.

Alma/Jowd/Cabanela are the OT3 of my heart but I’m perfectly happy with gen fic for them too with bestest friend Cabanela to Alma/Jowd. I’m also happy to see something focused on only one of them here or two of them--I only ask that if there’s a ship situation between 2/3 here it’s a situation with no infidelity please.

I’m a big fan of hurt/comfort and the more tenderness on the comfort end the better. However you can’t go wrong with pure fluff either.

That said I’m also a sucker for those five years of Jowd jail time and Cabanela’s 5 year solo mission or interactions with Pigeon Man (who is more than welcome; I love him too) during that final year, so anything exploring that is always welcome as is anything post Ch.9 which I can never get enough of.

On the OT3 front I’m always down for that initial get-together, but I’d also love to see the early days and basking in the feelings of ‘oh, this is happening’ and a very sparkly, very in-love Cabanela. Already well-established is also great. What do they do for fun? What’s a vacation look like? How does Jowd tease Cabanela mercilessly? How does Alma come out on top of the teasing game period?

I love the whole cast wholeheartedly, so if you need anyone else to make an appearance by all means throw them in.

We see plenty of Lloyd and Rixia but how about Rixia and anyone else here? Sergei and Dudley interactions are great and have the history. How about some time working together? How about some time off the job?

I’ve grown very fond of the growing connection between Kloe and Olivier (working together in Crossbell!) and would love to see more of that, the start of this blooming allyship/friendship after Olivier’s identity is revealed?

Throwing Sylvando at anyone here is great. I love him and how bright and genuinely caring he is. I love his dynamic with Hendrik and always want more of them. Beyond fighting how else might they support each other? That said we don’t get to see much between Sylv and Rab and/or Jade and I’d love to see more of that too.

Jade and Rab are perfect for family feels. Exploring more of their time pre-game is cool. It’s a very different life from what either were used to. How do they adapt and grow together? Any moment in-game is great too. Or post-game helping each other out in Heliodor and rebuilding Dundrasil. Grandpa Rab and adopted granddaughter Jade just makes me happy.

Jade and Hendrik once knew each other. Hendrik’s a knight of her family. How do they reconnect? How does Hendrik adapt to Jade no longer being the little princess he once knew? How do they get along after the world is saved?

Rab and Hendrik have points of connection through both Carnelian and the fall of Dundrasil. Hendrik has also lost his homeland with the fall of Zwaardsrust. I’d like to see interactions between these two explored more.

Summer Job Prompt

Hello everyone! Here is my first submission for this ship and for #GobblepotSummer2017 which @gobblepotgazette is so kindly hosting. This will be the first part of a series and centers around Jim and Oswald meeting when they are teenagers. Lots of fluff with a tiny bit of angst (mostly centering around Oswald’s mother being unstable). ENJOY!

A Little Rescue, A Little Revenge

Boredom. This is how he would die, bored out of his skull and smelling like soggy lettuce.

“Jim! Help Ms. Levinson with her groceries!”

Jumping up from the produce aisle in relief, Jim ran to the front to see a small gray haired woman trying to push a cart overflowing with groceries and bags of cat litter. While hauling plastic bags around wasn’t much better than stocking shelves, Jim could at least get outside for a few minutes and enjoy the sun. Taking a summer job to pay for his first car had sounded wonderful when his mom first brought it up, but Jim missed his lazy mornings and the grocery store was hard work. He needed the car for his last year in high school, even if it meant hauling barbeque beans and cat food to Ms. Levinson’s rusty cadillac.

“Thank you, young man,” Ms. Levinson said with a smile, her large owl-like eyes looking even larger behind her glasses. “I know you should get a tip but I’m on a very fixed income.” Digging in her purse, she pulled out a slightly melted piece of chocolate. “Here, have a sweetie.”

Jim accepted the candy with a faint smile. “Thank you ma’am.”

He watched her get into the driver’s seat and sent up a prayer for everyone driving in Gotham. He threw the sticky chocolate mess in the first garbage can he found and wiped his hand on his jeans. A noise around the side of the building caught his attention, the groan of someone in pain and the thump of flesh hitting flesh. Tearing off his apron, Jim ran into the alley beside the grocery store and found three of his classmates standing over someone, a small boy huddled in the fetal position while they kicked at him.

“Hey, leave them alone!”

The largest boy turned and gave Jim a grin. “Jimmy, get over here! This little punk tried to steal Randy’s bike so we’re teaching him a lesson.”

Jim pulled them back and stood in front of the huddled boy, fists clenched and jaw set. “Get out of here. You’re done.”

“Oh, I think I could stand a little more, Jimmy,” Dan said with a sneer. “Going to protect that sad sack of shit from all of us?”

Jim didn’t blink and tension vibrated between them but he stood his ground over the groaning boy.

“Come on Dan,” one of the other boys said at last, pulling on his sleeve. “It wasn’t much fun once he stopped fighting back.”

Dan pushed him away and glared at Jim, flexing his hands before shrugging and flashing a grin. “Sure Jimmy, whatever you say.”

Jim stood over the beaten boy while the others grabbed their bikes and pedaled away. After he was sure they’d left, he turned around and knelt down next to the crying boy.

“Hey, they’re gone,” Jim said in a hushed voice, not wanting to startle him.
