The Duality of Writer
I know in my gut that my story is almost written
I have no idea if it will be another 5, 10, 15 or more chapters left
No, I am not kidding. All I can offer you is the bone deep confidence that the fic is almost done. That's it.

i think part of what makes the IDW Sonic supporting cast so endearing is how well they fit into the franchise as a whole. like the Archie Sonic characters were created by and large to match the SatAM continuity, which was created by and large to give context to things happening in the games because it was made at a time when audiences knew shit from fuck about these characters or their world... so those characters kinda retroactively just don't mesh with the games at all. they're adjacent to an adjacency to the main franchise, so trying to imagine them existing in the tone and context of the modern games doesn't line up.
but then you look at the IDW characters, and they are entirely, wholly made to fit into the same mold and world as the games without being redundant expies of existing characters. Surge might be "another rival to Sonic", but she fits a narrative purpose Shadow, Knuckles, and Metal Sonic completely don't; the stories you can tell with Surge and Kit are unique to them, and no other characters would fit those roles. same with Tangle and Whisper; they make the world feel lived-in, remind you that things are happening and having an impact on people whenever Sonic and co. aren't onscreen.
they also have that quality that Pit has in Smash Brawl, where they feel like they have this super storied history and evolution over the course of years that we just didn't get to see. until i actually read IDW you could've 100% convinced me the IDW-originals were all updated versions of forgotten side-characters from spin-off games like Dark Brotherhood or Rivals, and i think that says a lot about how well-conceived they all are.

OG half heart was pretty wild in that instead of a drama with interdimensional sci-fi elements, it was a slice of life about two edgy and violently insane teenagers accidentally adopting a tween and them all trying not to kill each other

IDEA! Octavinelle with a reader who has mobility issues, maybe a wheelchair, cane, or walker, and them just being so amazed that, while they were able to learn how to walk THERE WAS ANOTHER OPTION! They’re not meaning to be rude, but they’re amazed! What do you mean you can’t walk/walk well? They were forced to learn, and to know they could have gotten a chair, or walker!?! Floyd probably tries to teach you how to walk until someone smacks him.
The cane Azul has is just decoration, but to know there are some for mobility!?! He feels dumb for never thinking to lean upon his cane! He ends up getting you a better mobility aid, a nice looking one, but that is still helpful. If you’re ever feeling down, he purposefully brings his cane around with him for some semblance of community. Uses his cane to hit Floyd when he says something insensitive.
Floyd ends up carrying you around, if you’ve got a wheelchair, he’s seeing how fast you can go downhill! It takes him a bit to actually make the connection you CANT walk without help. At the school he, Jade and Azul went too, they were told all humans walk. Riddle ends up knocking some sense in him, and while he’s still sometimes offensive, he’s also super protective. Nobody talks bad about his Shrimpy! EVER! Has a permanent bruise on the back of his head from Azul’s cane.
Jade learns of off road wheelchairs, and is finding a way to make it so you can FINALLY join in on his hikes! He still takes you on light walks, sometimes carrying you, but he dreams of having you both get to the top of some mountain! Jade is probably the most understanding, mainly cause he’s seen a few lame animals in the forest, and he’s researched a bit of everything! He’s the most helpful as well, never actually offering help, but still helping make a clear path. Usually lets Floyd do as he wishes unless you start to look hurt or scared.
Overall, they want to learn, and be as helpful as possible. Just help them as best you can, and let them know you don’t need THAT much help!
