"Megamind as an influencer sounds terrible"
In the prequel comic #Megamind projects himself live during a kidnapping where he sits Roxanne down in front of a TV to play VHS recordings of previous battles with Metro Man (and of course, her) so everyone can see how great he is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like literally the entire prequel comic is just Megamind peacocking around Roxanne to show off to her with old recorded footage of himself while the city watches. ANYWAY. Like y'all, the movie literally introduces Megamind's current-day dynamic with Metro Man with him projecting his bigass head in front of everyone in the city. And then he does it AGAIN to Metro Man directly because heaven forbid anyone isn't looking at what he's doing
Tumblr media
Megamind's entire existence is running around being flashy and loud and out there like this, genuinely HOW is this a shock to people,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also he's still like this in Button of Doom, the short that came out in 2011, because I know some of y'all weren't paying attention. Btw: the short focuses on Megamind realizing that he doesn't have to be like Metro Man to be a hero himself so like, expect that theme to continue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway looking forward to more Megamind stuff in 2024 because I'm not fucking boring and I understand Megamind is supposed to be a big loveable dork and a huge attention whore. ✨

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.
capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.
now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.
and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.
and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.
and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".
it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"
#this was much longer i had to cut it down for legibility#but i do want to say i am aware this post doesnt touch on human rights violations as a result of fast fashion#that is because it deserves its own post with a completely different tone#i am an environmental educator#so that's what i know the most about. it wouldn't be appropriate of me to mention off-hand the real and legitimate suffering#that people are going through#without doing my research and providing real ways to help#this is a vent post about a thing i'm watching happen; not a call to action. it would be INCREDIBLY demeaning#to all those affected by the fast fashion industry to pretend that a post like this could speak to their suffering#unfortunately one of the horrible things about latestage capitalism as an activist is that SO many things are linked to this#and i WANT to talk about all of them but it would be a book in its own right. in fact there ARE books about each level of this#and i encourage you to seek them out and read them!!! i am not an expert on that i am just a person on tumblr doing my favorite activity#(complaining)#and it's like - this is the individual versus the industry problem again right because im blaming myself#for being an expert on environmental disaster (which is fucking important) but not knowing EVERYTHING about fast fashion#i'm blaming myself for not covering the many layers of this incredibly complicated problem im pointing out#rather than being like. yeah so actually the fault here lies with the billion dollar industries actually.#my failure to be able to condense an incredibly immense problem that is BOOK-LENGTH into a single text post that i post for free#is not in ANY fucking way the same amount of harm as. you know. the ACTUAL COMPANIES doing this ACTUAL THING for ACTUAL MONEY.#anyway im gonna go donate money while i'm thinking about it. maybe you can too. we can both just agree - well i fuckin tried didn't i#which is more than their CEOs can say

please can we stop describing bigots as delusional. please. im so fucking tired. someone being sucked into a hate group surrounded by others who believe minorities should be oppressed and encouraging them to believe in conspiracy theories that the rest of the group believes, is fundamentally different from someone having a mental illness that causes delusions.
delusions, by definition, cannot be explained by things like cultural background - such as having a belief constantly reinforced by intentional attempts to rationalize it for the sake of maintaining power over minorities. yes, someone can be both delusional and a bigot, and yes conspiracy theories can feed into delusions, but the two are not fucking synonymous.
i did not spend my teen years convinced that i was being stalked by demons just to hear so many of you people equate my disability with incel behavior and genocidal propaganda. stop reinforcing harmful connotations about mental health struggles.

Context: Israel “allowed” aid in the forms of flour bags to be airdropped into Gaza, waited for hundreds to congregate, and then opened fire into the crowd of desperate, starving Palestinians. 150 Palestinians were killed. Hundreds more wounded. This is being called “The Flourbag Massacre”.

art fight???? how???
hey, could you explain a little about the art fight thing? i want to fight people !1!1!
Art Fight is an art gifting and trading game! It's been running in some form or another since (quickly checks about page) 2007 apparently but I've been playing it since 2016.
The way the game/event works is outlined here on the site's About page. Basically you just pick other users and draw free art for them of their characters--art you make for other people is called "attacks", and if you're lucky, they'll get "revenge" by drawing something back for you of one of your own characters, too!
There's a light framework of "teams" and "points" overlaid on top of that "draw art of others' OCs" concept to gamify it and give it a fun aesthetic (with team themes like sun vs moon, vampires vs werewolves, etc), but there are no prizes for the winning team, you can freely draw stuff for people on your own team, you can switch teams at any time, and... honestly most users don't really care about teams or points and are just in it for the OC gift art aspect of it.
I'm a huge fan of it because Art Fight feels like one of the last places on the internet that is by and for artists exclusively. On Art Fight you can openly relish in the fact that you're obsessed with one of your characters, or show off this idea for a cool story and setting you want to turn into a novel someday, or proudly display the fact that you've been worldbuilding in-depth dragon lore for a decade and be totally and completely surrounded on all sides by people who not only get it, but also are all doing the same thing. It's also a great way to give some love and support to beginner artists.
Some tips on how to have a better Art Fight experience:
Don't go in with the expectation that you'll get a ton of art, especially your first year. Your main goal should be to make gifts for other people.
If you are hoping to get "revenges" back, try to "attack" people who are definitely playing this year (as in, have drawn at least one attack this summer) but who aren't already swamped with a ton of attacks to "revenge" already. (Attacking only very popular/professional artists who get more attacks then they could ever possibly keep up with will leave you feel disappointed... that said, it's arguably worth attempting a few, just in case you get lucky, because that's how I got a drawing from Shoomlah, one of my childhood art idols!)
If you have an art blog, promote your Art Fight stuff to your followers there so they know you're playing. Playing with a group of friends is also more fun than playing solo 'cause you can always attack each other if you're not getting many revenges. Leaving nice comments on other people's characters and art can also help make you more visible/leave a good impression if you're brand new to the game.
Points and teams seriously don't matter at all, even a little. I suggest not paying them any attention at all beyond picking the team theme you think is cooler.
It's best to at least skim a character's profile and rules before drawing them. Not only does it help you get a better feel for the character, sometimes people put useful design details there instead of on their refs.
One more thing: Don't take Art Fight too seriously! You and everyone else are here to have fun. Don't get hung up on art "quality"--lots of people (including myself) are only doing headshots or sketches. Don't get upset if someone forgets a detail on your character or doesn't draw them quite "right". Don't get hung up on numbers or "ratios" or feel too stung if someone doesn't comment on or revenge something you draw for them. After all, Art Fight is for all types of artists, including young artists who don't fully understand netiquette rules yet, busy adults with full time jobs, people with disabilities that make it hard for them to communicate or hard for them to type or leave them with limited energy... etc. That doesn't mean they didn't appreciate what you drew for them!
Wow, I wrote too much. I should probably stop typing and go draw something for Art Fight before it gets too late in the evening!
TL;DR: Fun art gifting game. Great to rub elbows with other creatives for a month! Feels like an online convention of sorts! A+! Would recommend.

- one last second chance- shen jiu watches an interloper take over his life. title inspired by this post by @romanceyourdemons
the morning after i died, i opened my eyes and saw my brother sitting by my bed. there was a time when i had hated my brother with every fibre of my being. when i wanted him dead on the side of a road while the whole world burned around us. i still wanted it, in a way. but in spite of it all, i never stopped thinking of him as my brother. how could he be anything else? i might be able to kill him, but i can never unmake him.
my body sat up and smiled. i saw my brother startle, and then shyly smile back. his face was radiant. if i still had a stomach, i would have emptied it all over his pristine, white shoes.
i tried to stop the smile, but my face no longer belonged to me. i tried to claw it off with my nails, but my hands would not obey. i wanted to run but i had no legs. i wanted to scream but i had no throat. someone else was wearing my body. someone else was pulling the strings.
i was dead, of course. i vaguely remember it happening. it was quick, sharp and barely even hurt, like the clean, dry snap of a twig. rather anticlimactic and after a lifetime of blood, rage and toil. all it took was one idiotic accident and suddenly it was done. my lease on this miserable mortal plane was terminated and the next tenant had moved in before i was even evicted.
good fucking luck, i thought numbly, many weeks later, after i had silently raged myself into impotent exhaustion--as much as a ghost without heart, lungs, arteries or any living part, can be exhausted. i wouldn't wish me on my worst nemesis.
i didn't realise it then, but i had lost my last second chance.
[to be continued]

Ok. Here's an idea to help that writing tangle. Feel free not to do this if you would rather not.
Here's a line, can you give me five more? ;D
The utter stupidity of it all had her fingers twitching for the blaster at her hip, but SOMEONE had to be the level head in all of this.
This was so so sweet, thank you for sending this! And it TOTALLY WORKED because this sentence combined with an AU concept I'd been toying with and um. Let's just say there are more than five sentences lol, so here we are!
The utter stupidity of it all had her fingers twitching for the blaster at her hip, but SOMEONE had to be the level head in all of this.
Ignoring the slaver leering at her, Hera directed her attention to Kanan, who was glaring at the other man like he'd very much like to kick his teeth in. Reaching out, she caught hold of his arm, pulling his attention to her.
He met her gaze, the anger in his eyes fading just a little. Stay on track, Hera thought, willing him to remember. Don’t break our cover. Remember why we're here. It's not about how these people look at me, it's about helping someone who needs it.
She saw him give her a tiny nod before looking at the slaver. “Let's focus on our actual deal,” he said, his tone sharp. “You said you had a Lasat here?”
Turning his attention to Kanan, the slaver nodded. “We might just. Depends on what you’re willing to pay.”
“Oh, don’t you worry about payment,” Kanan said, letting his hand come to rest on the pouch hanging at his hip. It jingled just enough to draw the slaver’s attention, so he didn’t see the half-smile crossing Kanan’s face as he added, “You’ll get everything you deserve.”
Oh, boy. Hera cleared her throat pointedly. “If we could see him first?” she said.
His eyes gleaming with greed, the slaver nodded. “Aye. Anything you like.” Starting down the hallway, he added, “You can have his friend, too, if you pay a little extra.”
“His friend?” Hera exchanged a confused look with Kanan as they followed the man. The reports they’d heard hadn’t said anything about multiple survivors of the massacre on Lasan.
“Aye,” the slaver said. “Human male. Grabbed ‘em both together— they fought like fyrnocks, but numbers won out in the end. He’s a strong one, and with that red hair he’s quite the rare specimen.”
As they approached one of the nearby doors, Kanan said, “Then why are you offering him at a discounted price?”
“He’s trouble, putting it lightly,” the slaver said, keying a sequence into the pad next to the door. “Had to teach him how to behave, and as much fun as that is—” he let out an ugly laugh that made Hera’s skin crawl— “it takes too much time. But I’ll still be charging you. Here they are now.”
The door hissed open, and Hera had to choke back a gasp of horror.
The Lasat was there, chained to the wall by the arms. It was immediately clear that he’d been beaten badly— the area around one of his eyes was so swollen that he could barely open it. Blood, both dried and fresh, covered his arms and face, but his face was twisted in a defiant scowl as he regarded the trio.
Opposite him was a man the slaver had described. He looked equally battered, and while his expression was a little more calm, there was still a spark of rebellion as he studied both Kanan and Hera.
“As you can see, we needed to teach these two a lesson,” the slaver said. “Well, a couple lessons.”
He laughed, and Hera had to clench her teeth to avoid snapping a response, or shooting him in the face. You can’t save them all, she reminded herself. They only had a certain amount of credits, and if they were to save the Lasat… they might have to leave someone else behind.
“What exactly are you charging for him?” Kanan asked suddenly, and Hera shot him a sideways glance.
One look told her something was off. He was eying the red-haired man with an impassive expression that read more as unease to her. Clearing her throat, she said, “Are you sure about this?”
“I am,” Kanan said. Turning, he met her eyes. “I think we could… have use for him. The same way as the Lasat. Or… like me.”
Wait. What? There was no way Kanan was implying… did we find another Jedi? Hera lifted a questioning eyebrow at him, and he gave her a tiny nod.Ah. Well, that changes things.
Turning to the slaver, she gave him an overly sweet smile. “Could you give my companion and I a moment alone? You can just leave us here.”
“I don’t think you should be alone with the merchandise,” the slaver said, and Hera’s stomach turned. Those are people, you complete—
The sound of Kanan pulling a small handful of credits from the pouch at his waist brought her attention back, and she watched as he casually tossed them up in the air. “Oh, I don’t think it would be a big deal. After all, there’s no way out other than the door. You can guard from out there.”
The slaver hesitated, then held out his hand. Kanan dropped the credits into his palm, and without another word the man pivoted and headed for the door.
The minute it slid closed, Hera turned to Kanan. “Are you sure?” she said quietly.
“Positive,” Kanan said firmly.
Nodding slowly, Hera said, “Alright. Plan B?”
Kanan shook his head. “No way he buys that after the way I acted earlier.”
Rolling her eyes, Hera said, “I told you not to—”
“I know, you’re right. As usual,” Kanan said with a grimace. “I couldn’t stop myself, the guy’s a boot-licking karker, to put it likely.”
“Agreed.”
“So plan C?” Kanan offered.
“Hmm.” Hera tapped her chin thoughtfully. “We could. Or…”
Kanan sighed. “You’re about to say you want to do plan D, aren’t you?”
“You know me well, dear.”
“Hey.” For the first time, the Lasat spoke, his voice creaking from disuse. “What the KARK are you two talking about?”
As Hera exchanged a look with Kanan, the red-haired man spoke up. “They’re going to help us, Zeb.” He looked at Kanan, lifting his head in a challenging way. “Aren’t you?”
“We are,” Hera said. “But we’re going to need your help to pull it off. How do you feel about freeing every slave in this place, and taking out a few slavers along the way?”
The Lasat grinned, a vicious curl of his mouth. “Now you’re speaking my language. Where do we start?”

there really cannot ever be a raceblind reading of Izzy.
Case in point: When Badminton brings his posse of British soldiers into Spanish Jackie's bar while Izzy is complaining about losing Ed to Stede, Chauncey walks in, scrunches his face in disgust and starts by calling Jackie's place "quaint....ly awful".
Jackie turns to Izzy and remarks, "you know I don't like having their kind in my establishment." to which Izzy replies, "if it makes you feel any better, they don't like it either."
In this particular scenario Izzy is unable to grasp the underlying but very apparent elephant in the room. Spanish Jackie, as a Black woman, does NOT like having White British soldiers at her establishment. The scene makes clear to us why she doesn't like having these people in her establishment. Especially while they are all hoity-toity actively serving the King. She doesn't like these people because they are racists. They re colonizers. The show doesn't shy away from it, and it emphasis that she despises the King's men especially & their continual active and willing participation in acts of racism and prejudice and their treatment of Black people. Spanish Jackie as a Black woman is very very aware of this.
Meanwhile, what is Izzy's retort? "If it makes you feel any better, they hate it too". Well, Izzy. Of course they do. They hate associating with Spanish Jackie because she is a Black woman and they are racists. She is a Black woman first and a pirate second and the white Brits hate her for being a Black woman first and a pirate second. They hate "this interaction" because they're having to make a deal with a Black woman and they do not like it. Its both about class and race but it's first about race. and then it's about class.
Izzy is blind to the context of race in this scenario. He says "if it makes you feel any better, they hate it too." It does not make me feel any better, actually. And I doubt it makes Jackie feel any better either. It only reinforces what we already know, that they don't like interacting with Black people because they are fucking racists. But from Izzy's point of view, he thinks they hate this interaction because they are interacting with pirates. That this is a class divide and class divide only.
Izzy's position as a white man makes him blind to the fact that in this arranged interaction between Badminton and Spanish Jackie, and the way Badminton conducts himself, it is the Racism that is primary prejudice, right in the forefront. Class Divide is only secondary. Izzy does not realize the former, which is so very blatantly in front of him, because as a white man in this story... he has never had to.
