however i will say there's another thing i really like abt him:

his Range!

he has a v flexible face.. even with his neutral expression, you cant help but read a tinge of melancholy/pensiveness to it.

he deters people from getting too comfortable with him by acting crude, but no matter how unapproachable he looks you can't help but wonder if he's ok. seems like he's never content with himself.

just like karkat, anger gives him purpose = something to care about & react to. without it he can appear aimless/uncertain.

it's especially interesting when you compare him to aradia, who despite having endured a lot of shit, ends up enjoying the freedom of expanding her worldview, riding the unpredictable tide of the narrative and observing the changes. sollux... doesn't.

he doesn't like watching major things progress in a way he can't predict. the lack of certainty actually overwhelms him.

and it's pretty clear why; imagine the only reassurance you get after unknowingly killing ur gf is that "it needed to happen". the only way to appease that sort of emotional turmoil is by intellectualizing those events as inevitable and out of your control.

when you’re just a tool for the author, trying to sit out is just feeble self-preservation until you’re needed again. if you’re not called on stage to help/assist in some way, it feels like your presence spells doom (either you or someone else will get hurt). so you avoid Events as best you can.

Hey, I was just reading one of your FICS and suddenly I started to wonder about Zoro — or most strawhat — just jumping into the water whenever a devil fruit user falls into the sea, like because of Luffy the moment they hear the sound, their bodies just go into auto pilot.

Did Luffy — Robin, and Chopper— Pavlov them?

There's actually a scene in Zou where they're climbing up the elephant on the poorly drawn Ryunosuke; which of course means holding on tight since it's a poorly drawn dragon scaling a straight cliffside. But the second Luffy appears to fall off you see just how pissy Zoro gets, because Zoro knows, if he hears a splash he is going in that water. It doesn't matter how turbulent it is, how far the drop, how much an elephant might have just shit in it, he isn't even holding onto the dragon - his arms are folded over his chest this whole time - but you know the SECOND he hears that splash he's relaxing his thighs and taking a straight up dunk into that water.

I mean, just look at Zoro, Killer, Bepo, Rayleigh, Beckman. What do they all have in common? They have arms as thick as my thighs because these boys are use to dragging their captains up from the deepest depths (note: Rogers and Shanks might not have devil's fruits but that doesn't make them not fucking idiots. "There's a GODDAMN WHIRLPOOL and - you know what? I'll just drag his ass back to the shore myself, you guys just try and keep from dying while I'm gone.")

I believe that on your First Mate resume, one of the questions has to be, "how fast do you jump into the water after hearing a splash?" and if the answer isn't IMMEDIATELY you are OUT.

Can you imagine how fast I the water Heart! Zoro is. Don't worry, I did it for you. Instantaneous. Some part of first mates is just written differently in their DNA. It commands they save their captains from the sea.

I wonder how Homelander would react to trying Bubble Tea from a fem reader who he caught drinking in your office.

"What on God's green earth are you drinking?" Homelander's voice startles you so badly you almost drop your drink, fumbling with it for a moment. You look up, confused as to why he's in your office. Again. He sure has been lurking about your floor a lot lately. "Oh, it's bubble tea," you answer, taking a sip from the oversized straw. The subtle mortification in his eyes when he sees several tapioca pearls slide up the straw, followed by you chewing, almost makes you laugh aloud. You can't help but lift it closer to him and ask, "Do you want to try it?"

"Eugh, abso-lutely not. I can smell the sugar from here," he says, scrunching up his nose. He grimaces as you take another chewy sip. You hold out the cup again. "You sure? It's not flavored or anything, it's just milk tea." "Milk tea," he echoes with a curious lilt to his voice, narrowing his eyes. "You said it's bubble tea," he reminds you, tone low, as if he just caught you in a heinous lie. "The bubbles are the tapioca pearls, the flavor is just milk tea. Come on, try it," you insist, waving the cup out to him. "Don't tell me Homelander is afraid of a little sugary starch, tea and milk." Homelander scoffs, settling his hands on his hips. "Please. Do you really think I'm that easy to bait?" With a small shrug, you lower your drink back down, and swivel your chair back to face your desk. "Okay, whatever you—" In a flash, a crimson gloved hand yoinks your drink clean out of your hand. Whirling around, you stare incredulously up at him, watching as he shamelessly slurps from your straw. Homelander's brows furrow. The second one of the pearls hit his tongue, he pulls off the straw, chewing with the most exaggerated downturn at the corners of his mouth you've ever seen. You can't help it, you laugh as he chokes down the mouthful. "Jesus Christ, that is repulsive on all fronts," he says through a scowl, smacking his lips over and over. Reaching up, you snatch your drink right back, smiling as you pop the straw back into your mouth, enjoying another heaping slurp of it. "Well, for what it's worth, I'm very proud of you for trying a new food," you say, grinning mischievously around your straw. Homelander's mouth opens, closes, opens, and then closes again. He makes an unintelligible little noise that you think was maybe the beginning of a retort, but the words die before they make it off his tongue. He scoffs again, seemingly unable to form a coherent response. Instead, he simply spins on his heel to walk out from your office. "See you tomorrow," you call over your shoulder. You hear him pause, but you don't look back. You just sip away, facing your computer, knowing as well as he does that you're right. He may not like the bubble tea, but he clearly likes you.

Thinking about steddie future where they're both just average guys. No rockstars, no basketball players just two Normal men living a normal life because honestly? they deserve it. They deserve soft domesticity and happiness.

They both have jobs they like but don't love and they're happy with that. Eddie maybe becomes an electrician, working for someone else's company. His coworkers are chill, he gets to get out and work with his hands and that's more than he could have asked for. Steve is a physical therapist, or a manager in some business. He likes his team and the steady hours. He's not working for his dad which is a plus.

They buy a house together, that's not a mansion but it's not a trailer either. Steve does a lot of the dishes because Eddie hates it, hates the feeling of old food on the plates and cutlery. So Eddie will kiss Steve on the cheek and does the laundry because Steve fucking hates laundry. And sitting on the floor watching TV while he folds clothes is honestly sort of relaxing?? Love is doing the chores your partner hates.

Steve and Robin go out for brunch at least once a month, where they catch up and gossip for hours and hours and Steve comes home lighter with updates on Robin and Vickie. Eddie will have nightly phone calls with Wayne, where they talk and laugh and Eddie will eventually hand the phone over to Steve so he and Wayne can talk sports together. When he's in town Dustin will come over and stay in their spare room and they laugh and joke so much it's just like old times. They go over to Jeff's house for dinner on a semi regular basis, and it's nice having normal friends.

They adopt a very annoying cat who will climb all over them in bed and meow in their faces when they don't wake up to feed it breakfast in time. Steve will go for jogs on a Saturday morning, coming home to Eddie reading in bed. Some old western book Wayne recommended to him. There's a steaming cup of coffee waiting on their bedside tables that Eddie's prepared.

They take time off of work and go on a week long vacation because they can do that now. They do dorky touristy things and Eddie buys a mug to send to Wayne. Steve takes a lot of dorky photos of the two of them.

Idk they deserve to be normal and alive and happy with no upside down anymore <3

Oh I love this! I had actually been thinking about tradesman Eddie for a little bit I am so, so glad you’ve come up with this!

I can so completely see him learning a trade and just getting employed and put through his time by a small local employer! He has to go through his exams and that part of it worries him when he first gets the job but his team end up being really supportive and Steve stays up late with him, practicing circuits and wiring and quizzing him on currents and volts. Eddie returning the favour, letting Steve mark up his muscles and be a living anatomy dummy. Sure it gets a little sexy from time to time but more often than not it’s just them testing each other as Steve identifies bones and Eddie talks about parallel circuits.

The monthly brunches mentally and physically revive Steve after working extended hours with patients that he really does want the best for but a jobs a job and it can get pretty tiring. They joke that they rebalance each others chakras but they really do feel realigned after their meet ups. Eddie can see it to, sometimes he’ll come pick them up when it’s been a boozy brunch and delights in seeing them happy and light, clambering over each other to tell Eddie something about one of the waiters or an especially good dish they ordered. When he drops Robin home Steve sits in the front and looks at peace and Eddie feels the same way.

Their weekends are for them, sometimes that means staying home and cleaning the whole place between ordering food in and sometimes that means going on a day trip and taking Wayne around all the antique spots around the county and seeing what horrors they can uncover. Top spot currently sits with Wayne’s find of a doll whose limbs had been replaced with horse legs and had the head of a fish. Of course they bought it.

Every time they go on a holiday they make sure to send postcards to everyone, including themselves, seeing if they’ll get home before the postcard does. Steve keeps them in a photo album, each with a Polaroid of them next to it. Sometimes taken by a stranger, sometimes just a close up of their faces squashed together. It’s Eddie’s favourite thing to go through on their anniversary, or any day really, just loves being reminded that this is the life they get to have.

It’s mundane, dare say even normal, but they love it. Steve comes home every night, happy to put his scrubs in the washing machine next to Eddie’s uniform, happy to be where he feels loved.
