02/23/2024 Daily OFMD Recap
TLDR; How To Help; Rotten Tomatoes Reviews/GoggleBox; Cast & Crew Sightings; Taika; Rhys; Leslie Jones; New Watch Party: These Thems; Save OFMD UK Billboard; Transparency policy; RhysDarbyFaction; We'reWolves; Fan Spotlight; Podcasts/Youtube vids; Articles; Love Notes; Daily Darby / Tonight's Taika
Hey all. I'm starting out with the how to help section tonight because there are some things we'd love to see happen to try and help with the renewal.
== HOW TO HELP ==
= Rotten Tomatoes Reviews =
Okay all, this is a big one. It's been brought to my attention by @bzy_hands on twitter, that there are less than 1000 reviews on rotten tomatoes for Season 2. They have an excellent point, Con DID screenshot Season 2. If you haven't already, please go over to Season 2 and review it to help get over that 1000 review mark.
Need help on how to review on RT? @lowrahh Was kind enough to make a tutorial for us, check it out on the repo: Review on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB
Tumblr media
== Let's Get OFMD On Gogglebox ==
Our crew-mate @queerly-autistic was kind enough to have written up a How-To on on getting OFMD on Gogglebox!
"One of the biggest things we can do to try and get Our Flag Means Death picked up by another network is keep making noise about it, and so I had a wild middle-of-the-night idea about one way we could do this: try and get the show on Gogglebox! For anyone who doesn't know, Gogglebox is an extremely popular and successful show in the UK on Channel 4, where ordinary people (and sometimes celebrities) watch and react to television shows, pop culture moments and films."
Wanna give it a go? Please check out their tutorial here!
== Cast & Crew Sightings ==
==Taika!==
It's been a minute since we've seen Taika! But he's out with Rita at the Taylor Swift concert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
= Rhys Darby =
Well, even though Rhys is taking some time off until March, we still have some Cameo's coming in from prior to him closing cameos!
= Cameo 1 - Cryptids! =
Thank you to @iamadequate1 for sharing this fun little cryptid video +
Tumblr / Twitter Links
Tumblr media
= Cameo 2 =
Our friend @blackcravatart over on twitter was kind enough to share a birthday video for her (edited for names). I don't know if it's anywhere else and I didn't get permission to download it, so I apologize I'll try to do that and get back to you if we are allowed to share it elsewhere! Cameo Video on Twitter.
= Red Dead Redemption 2: Episode 3 =
The next exciting episode of Rhys playing Red Dead is up!
youtube
= Leslie Jones =
I really don't post enough about Leslie, who is my absolute idol. She's out doing comedy at the Hawaii Theater in Honolulu tonight with @lennymarcusnyc! Just wanted to give a shout out her way since she's a BAMF and deserves all the love.

== New Watch Party ==
Join @adoptourcrew on Friday 3/1 for a watch party of #TheseThems! Times haven't been secured quite yet but mark your calendars!
Watch Party Hashtags:
#TheseThems
#These Gems
#AdoptOurCrew
Tumblr media
Wanna see what other watch parties are planned? Feel free to visit the repo for Watch Party Events.
== Save OFMD Billboard Campaign ==
Tumblr media
Some of you may have noticed that there's been some suspicious pictures going up across multiple platforms regarding a billboard with the hashtag #WatchTheHorizon from our SaveOFMD Crew. There's definitely some Billboard planning in the works and the crew has provided a bit more transparency on the situation this time. All links in the images will be listed below.

Just a little karma for WB.
Tumblr media
== Rhys Darby Faction ==
Tumblr media
So for those of you not on twitter, there was a bit of fun had with a random film poll guy who posted a poll that included Rhys Darby on Twitter.
Tumblr media
It was found by OFMD twitter, and immediately started being retweeted, which, is how twitter works, right? His Response to this was:
Tumblr media
So several of our OFMD Twitter group decided to OWN that lovely little name, and put together an actual hashtag #RhysDarbyFaction... and start polite menacing and trying to boost engagement for #AdoptOurCrew and #SaveOFMD Which triggered a meme factory, here's a few:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#RhysDarbyFaction is now a trending Hashtag on Twitter, and the Faction is using that to help support the #SaveOFMD and #AdoptOurCrew effort as well as spread positivity and love around Rhys Darby works. There's even a discord server if you're interested in joining: https://discord.gg/r7db78j4 There's been talks of putting together some events for a Cryptid Scavenger hunt, but in general it's just a small safe space to try and promote little guys and support the ofmd renewal effort. You don't need to join the discord to be part of the crew, just use #RhysDarbyFaction and be a polite menace/positive force!
== We're Wolves ==
So according to the #WellingtonParanormalPodcast's tiktok, it sounds like Jermaine is finally in talks for writing "We're Wolves"! A sequel to the 2014 What We Do In the Shadows movie. I know we've all been in a Vianton mood since that one Rhys Cameo, so just wanted to make sure you'd heard if you hadn't! SRC: Tiktok
== Fan Spotlight! ==
Getting close to the end of the month so gotta catch up! More collages from our friend @wnderngnomad on Twitter!
Day 23: The Cinematography
Day 4: Nat Faxon
Day 5: Vico Ortiz
Day 6: Leslie Jones
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
== Podcasts / Youtube Vids ==
Speaking of podcasts, checkout some podcasts from our fandom!
= Citizen Dame =
First up! @celluloidbroomcloset, has a podcast that’s called Citizen Dame. While it doesn't specifically discuss OFMD in this episode, they do discuss Taika, and you all know how much we love that man. So give it a listen and support a fellow crew-mate! Podbean Link / Patreon / Spotify
Tumblr media
= Never Left Podcast =
Another fan-podcast I'd like to add tonight is Never Left! More podcasts and discussions on all things OFMD -- give them a listen if you feel up for it! "Welcome aboard our Safe Space Ship! Your Co-Captains, Ariana Perry and Amanda Catron, will be hosting this completely spoiled, totally unofficial, deep dive into Our Flag Means Death." Podbay / Linktr.ee
Tumblr media
== Movies With Marty ==
Marty has a new First Watch video out! If you haven't watched Marty's vids yet, feel free to check them out! He's a hoot and is a HUGE supporter of OFMD!
youtube
== Articles ==
What to watch on Netflix and BBC this weekend?
Keeping promises of queer representation
== Love Notes ==
Today has been a long day lovelies, and I'm out of spoons so I'm gonna take a night off from writing out love notes and spread some from someone else. Just know I'm very proud of you for everything you did today, I hope you're doing well and feeling safe. <3
Tumblr media
== Daily Darby / Tonight's Taika ==
Idk if these really go together tonight, but here we go. Both of them were on tenor with no srcs? Sorry! Hope you all enjoy!

It's my last Tumblr post for 2023, the year that saw the release of an Elvis biopic by Buz Luhrmann. Tom Hanks received some criticism along the way for his portrayal of Parker, with everything from his prosthetic makeup to his accent being singled out. As the year ends, lets take a look at some of the pictures I've collected of the real "Thomas Andrew Parker" during his years with Elvis.
Elvis and Parker at an RCA-Paramount Pictures party at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on 18th May 1957.
Two pictures from December 21, 1957, when Elvis went to Parker's home (1215 Gallatin Road in South Madison, Tennessee) to deliver a Christmas present - a new BMW Isetta microcar.
It’s 9:15am at Fort Dix, NJ on 5th March 1960 and Elvis is being honorably discharged from the Army.  As he collects his mustering out cheque for $109.54 he kids with the Colonel about his percentage.  In later years that would be far from a laughing matter.
Parker shows his sense of humour during the filming Roustabout in 1964 when a birthday party is held for Elvis’ cousin, Billy Smith.
On the NBC set in Los Angeles, Elvis sung a birthday song ‘It Hurts Me’ (in an amusing parody) for the Colonel, 26 June 1968.
A couple of rare shots of Parker with baby Lisa Marie.
Two pictures of Parker and Elvis at the August 1, 1969 press conference in Las Vegas announcing Elvis' new residency at the International Hotel (the Hilton as of 1972).
In this candid shot, we see Parker in a hotel elevator while on tour in Mobile Alabama in 1971 with one of his constant business companions, longtime RCA Records executive George L. Parkhill (centre in yellow shirt).  Parkhill’s main task was "working with Elvis." That basically meant he supervised Elvis' concert tours and, when Elvis was in Los Angeles, monitoring all activities that involved him being RCA's top money maker.
The Colonel below the stage as Elvis performs in Cincinnati in the Black Fireworks jumpsuit on November 11, 1971.
Parker once again staying close to this star client below the stage at the evening appearance at Madison Square Garden on June 9, 1972.
Two pictures of Parker below the stage at the afternoon show in Honolulu on November 18, 1972. In the first picture he's picked an unusual spot to have a chat with Joe Esposito.
An undated picture of Colonel Parker on tour with Elvis in the early 1970s.
Colonel Parker before a concert in Detroit at Olympia Stadium on September 29, 1974.
Perhaps the last time Parker and Elvis were photographed together was in the dressing room just before the new years eve concert in Pontiac, MI, on December 31, 1975. At the time Parker had allowed a visit by local mayor Wallace E. Holland and Oakland press writer Jackie Kallen who presented an award.

Mamoru was puzzled. Sitting on the table was a parcel that Usagi had excitedly brought in just a moment ago. It was about the size of a toaster and wrapped in brown paper and twine. The package was addressed to Mamoru but had no return address or markings.
“I wonder what this is.”
“Eh? I thought you would know. Like maybe you ordered a new coffee maker or some books.” Usagi picked up the box and shook it a little. It seemed fairly light. The contents just sounded like paper shifting around inside.
“I don't remember buying anything.”
“Maybe it's a gift!”
That seemed possible. Just last weekend, Mamoru turned a nice round 20 years of age. The official age of adulthood according to Japan. He celebrated appropriately – a night out with friends from college, punctuated with a special surprise when he came home… Usagi wrapped in a bow.
It was a good birthday.
But who else would be sending him something this late?
Mamoru pulled off the twine and started to unwrap it as Usagi looked on curiously. The box seemed oddly scuffed, but ignoring that he pried open the top.
They were photos. Just an huge cache of photos – loose, mostly candid Polaroids, a couple of framed ones as well. Mamoru turned the box over on the table to look at them. As he spread the contents out, he noticed a small envelope along with them.
“They're all of this man and his son.” Usagi had picked up a handful of photos and was flipping through them. And she was right, they were mostly of a dark-haired man and a boy, smiling and waving at the camera. But something tugged at Mamoru's mind as he stared at them. A stack of family photos addressed to him…
“Hey, Mamo-chan, he kinda looks like…” She trailed off, looking from the photos to Mamoru and back again. The unsaid implication hung in the air.
He had already realized it as well. The man looked familiar. The shape of his face, the color of his eyes… were very much like Mamoru's.
“Dad?”
~~~
Mamoru didn't know how long they sat there, slowly sorting through the pictures. Neither he nor Usagi said a thing. Before today he had no photos of his parents. Growing up at the children's welfare center, he had the same as everyone else: food, clothes, and roof over his head. Not much else. Not even memories.
It wasn't until he was old enough to leave the center that he was confronted by an attorney, who told him about the Chiba inheritance. The woman said that, coupled with the insurance money, the accounts had been handled by a private party and kept safe for the day Mamoru turned fifteen. She assured him that he would be well taken care of: an apartment in Tokyo and already registered to attend the prestigious Azabu High next spring. Besides a few assets that were locked away until he was an adult, the rest of the money was his to do as he pleased.
But it was the first item she handed to him that was the most important: a simple one-page family registry, his parents' names typed out neatly on the sheet:
Father: Chiba Ishiei Mother: Chiba Hiyo.
For nearly five years that was all he needed. Mamoru kept it tucked away in a book among many on his shelf, away from prying eyes. After confronting his visions and meeting Usagi, there was never any question about what he left behind.
Until today.
Now his past was laid bare on this small kitchen table. There were so many photos. All of them were of Mamoru and Ishiei – or should I call him Dad he wondered – doing various things. Going to the park, attending a festival, Mamoru's first steps…
He didn't remember any of it.
Mamoru took a closer look at the mailing box, which he now noticed was much older than he first thought. The cardboard was scuffed and scraped, like it had been shipped many times. Various postmarks were stamped all around it, overlapping once there was no room left. He ran his finger over the faded ink. Okinawa, Honolulu, London, New York, Paris… He could just barely make out the full name of the package's original recipient: Chiba Hiyo. His mother's name.
If these photos were his mother's, then who sent them to Mamoru?
His gaze fell on the little yellow envelope that had tumbled out of the box with the pictures. It looked newer than the rest, crisp and bright. Blank.
A sudden panic clenched his heart. Mamoru was six again, waking up alone and confused. Who was he? Did anybody know? For nearly a decade he had waited in that facility for someone to remember him. And only now was there a response. A distant relative? A stranger? Weren't those both the same thing at this point? An unknown person who knew more about Mamoru's childhood than he did.
Was he afraid?
Before he could be overwhelmed, a gentle warmth enveloped Mamoru from behind.
“Mamo-chan. I'm here with you.”
Usagi had at some point gotten up to embrace him, her arms wrapping protectively around his shoulders. Cradled to her chest like this, he softened as her heartbeat steadied his own.
Mamoru reached up for one of her hands, bringing it to his lips to kiss it. He didn't trust himself to speak yet, but hoped that was enough to tell her how much it meant to him. With his other hand, Mamoru finally picked up the envelope and opened it.
Inside was a letter. He read it silently as Usagi looked over his shoulder, still keeping him in her arms.
Chiba Mamoru
These belong to you. I think it's about time for both of us to have closure. If you'd like to meet, I'll be waiting at Cafe Toujour, August 30th at 3pm. This will be last and only time.
Your benefactor, Kusaka Toshie
It was short, almost terse.
“Kusaka Toshie…” Mamoru repeated the name under his breath. It didn't ring any bells.
“Do you know him?” she asked softly.
“I don't recognize it but…”
He remembered what that attorney had said those five years ago. “A private party” had handled Mamoru's funds while he was at the welfare home. Was it this Kusaka person?
“….it's complicated,” Mamoru sighed. His brain was exhausted from running in circles. It wasn't that he didn't want to share this with her, but Mamoru himself didn't understand that part of his life very well. Somehow, it seemed a lot scarier than fighting aliens or evil. At least he had practice with that.
Usagi didn't press it, instead kissing the top of his head comfortingly. She picked up one of the photos and smiled at the scene: Ishiei giving toddler Mamoru a piggyback ride.
“You look really happy in these.”
She held him closer as he kissed her hand again.
What to do about the letter could wait until tomorrow.
(an extra fanfic bit from this.)
Honolulu, Hawai'i We host our daughter's first birthday party during the hottest April in history. Outside, my dad grills meat over charcoal; inside, my mom steams rice and roasts vegetables. They've traveled from California, where drought carves trees into tinder—"Paradise is burning." When our daughter's first fever spiked, the doctor said, "It's a sign she's fighting infection." Bloodshed surges with global temperatures, which know no borders. "If her fever doesn't break," the doctor continued, "take her to the Emergency Room." Airstrikes detonate hospitals in Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, South Sudan . . . "When she crowned," my wife said, "it felt like rings of fire." Volcanoes erupt along Pacific fault lines; sweltering heatwaves scorch Australia; forests in Indonesia are razed for palm oil plantations— their ashes flock, like ghost birds, to our distant rib cages. Still, I crave an unfiltered cigarette, even though I quit years ago, and my breath no longer smells like my grandpa's overflowing ashtray— his parched cough still punctures the black lungs of cancer and denial. "If she struggles to breathe," the doctor advised, "give her an asthma inhaler." But tonight we sing, "Happy Birthday," and blow out the candles together. Smoke trembles as if we all exhaled the same flammable wish.
HAU`OLI LĀ HĀNAU JOSEPH NĀWAHĪ
Tumblr media
Today is the birthday of Hawaiian Kingdom patriot Joseph Kaho`oluhi Nāwahīokalani`opu`u.
A writer, teacher, lawyer, politician, newspaper editor, and artist, Joseph Nāwahī was a Hawaiian patriot and Renaissance man.
Born in Puna, Hawai`i in 1842, he was an outstanding pupil at the Hilo Boarding School, Lahainaluna on Maui, and the Royal School in Honolulu.
Elected to the legislature of the Kingdom in 1872, he represented Hilo for nine terms over the next twenty years.
A trusted advisor of Lili`uokalani during the last months of the monarchy, Nāwahī played a leading role in Hawaiian nationalist politics.
He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hawaiian Kingdom (1892–1892.)
He and his wife, Emma, helped to found the Hui Aloha `Āina political party and its newspaper Ke Aloha `Āina, as they worked tirelessly and selflessly to stop annexation, and to restore Hawai`i’s independence as a nation.
His editorials and speeches are some of the most passionate and articulate expressions of faith in the Hawaiian people.
Imprisoned for acts deemed “treasonous” to the illegal provisional government that had overthrown the monarchy in 1893 he contracted tuberculosis from his time in the damp cells of O`ahu prison, which seriously affected his health.
After his release he and his wife moved to San Francisco in an attempt to recuperate from his illness.
Sadly he died from tuberculosis in San Francisco in 1896.
In his final words he apologized to his wife that she had to see him die on other than his beloved native soil.
{ BRYANA HOLLY | TWENTY-EIGHT | CIS WOMAN﹜  welcome to san francisco, CLARISSA OLSEN! just to make sure, you go by SHE/HERS, right? okay, great. i just have a few questions for you before i can let you go..  how long have you been here for? TWO YEARS. where are you currently living? SOMA. what’s your current occupation? SURGICAL RESIDENT of THE UCSF GENERAL SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM. what’s your dream occupation? Trigger Warnings (I warn in front of the bio too I just like having these upfront. If you notice any potential ones I may have forgotten, even if they're not on the trigger list, please let me know and I will add them asap!):
General: Possibly drug addiction tw in her stats, depending on your opinion of caffeine.
Biography: Child Abandonment, Drug Addiction (npc's, not Clarissa's), Accidental Pregnancy (not Clarissa's and only very mentioned briefly in passing)
Full Name: Clarissa Rose Olsen Preferred Name: Clarissa Olsen Age: 28 Birthday: February 14th Height: 5’7” Gender & Pronouns: Woman (She/Hers) Sexuality: Bisexual Occupation: Surgery Resident in the UCSF General Surgery Residency Program Relationship Status: Engaged to Logan Elswood
Place of Birth: Honolulu, Hawai’i Hometown: Waimanalo, Hawai’i Languages Spoken: English, some 'Ōlelo Hawai’i  Country of Citizenship: United States Ethnicity: Kānaka Maoli, Japanese, Russian and Slovenian
Conditions: N/A Allergies: N/A Addictions: Caffeine (gotta have that coffee to function. How else do you get through med school and residencies?)
MBTI: ENFJ Enneagram: 1w2 (The Reformer with The Helper Wing) Alignment: Neutral Good Zodiac: Aquarius Percy Jackson Parent: Persephone Pokémon Type: Ice
Ices are regal, polite, glamorous, and impossibly hard to know. Many of them seem ageless, in a bit of a pinched, tense-seeming way. With them, every pause, smile, and gesture is appropriate, yet strained. They know a lot about proper etiquette, and always have the right answer for how to gracefully solve a social problem. They have many friends, and host wonderful parties, yet you never feel at ease in their presence. Ices are as perfectionistic as Grounds, without the impatience and frustrating goal-mindedness. They are graceful and slow, meticulous and proud. Even something as simple as selecting an outfit can be elevated by an Ice into an art. Every step is considered and measured, every accessory perfectly placed. They don’t like being rushed or criticized; they don’t need your criticism, they’ll find the flaws on their own.
Pokémon Type: Dragon
Dragon Types seem to operate on their own plane of existence, with its own system of morals and values. Stubborn yet perpetually happy, Dragons refuse to grapple with your criticisms of them. Dragons live their lives without any care about whether other people notice. They tend to be reclusive and self-contained. Because they are so resolute about doing things their own way, and feel no need to explain it, they don’t make good long-term partners for most people. However, if you can give them the space they need to forge their own quiet, maybe sometimes even a bit odd, lives, you can learn a great deal of wisdom from them.
Winx: Nature
Father: Rei Olsen Mother: Clarissa doesn’t actually know this info. She left right after Clarissa was born and her father has never talked about her, and she’s never wanted to know. Children: Isabelle “Belle” Elswood (4 years old)
TWs: Child Abandonment, Drug Addiction (specifically cocaine, regarding her fiance), Accidental Pregnancy (not Clarissa's and mentioned briefly in passing)
You can skip both the addiction and pregnancy tw by not reading the 6th paragraph if you'd like. The paragraph starts with "The answer came in less than a year..." so just stop reading and go straight to "And despite the fact..."
For as long as Clarissa could remember, it's always been her and her father. Her mother left, not long after she was born, leaving simply a note that expressed she couldn’t do this. The whole being a wife thing, a mother, it was too much for her. But, despite everything - she’d never really felt a gap missing or anything. She had her father, who loved her very much, grandparents who she spent lots of time with, and she lived in probably the most beautiful place in the world.  Her father was a linguistic anthropologist with John Hopkins, working alongside the anthropology unit at University of Hawaii—Mānoa. A position he’d always held with great pride, but he’d always say the greatest joy was being her father.  And he was a great father. Clarissa didn’t even notice the absence of a mother until she started interacting with children her own age. And in all honesty, she's never really felt that void people expect her to feel whenever she mentions it was just her and her dad growing up. He was always there for her, every step of the way. Which only made the decision to attend college on the mainland even harder for her. Sure, she’d gotten into Cornell - something her father was excitedly telling everyone who’d stop long enough to listen to him. His Clarissa had gotten into an ivy league school, on a scholarship, but despite how ecstatic the man was - that didn’t make leaving any easier. It was in New York City she’d met Logan Elswood, it’d been a casual bump in. It’d been her second year of medical school when they’d bumped into each other and the girl he’d been walking with started laughing and trying to apologize for her dad between giggles. At first she thought it was a weird couple thing. He looked about Clarissa’s age, there was no way he was the father of a college freshman. But then he apologized for his sister and offered to buy Clarissa a coffee to make up for the error and from there, it felt like everything was falling into place. After that day, they’d talk constantly - he’d call her while she studied, she’d sit at his kitchen counter and work on anatomy as he tried to keep all nine of the siblings he’d dropped out of high school to raise out of trouble and try to ignore how uncomfortable the spacious upper east side apartment felt.
He’d grown up in an entirely different world than her. While Clarissa never really noticed her father struggling - the Elswood family were something else entirely. Too rich, uncomfortably so, the type of family where one of them would casually mention loaning their best friend the money for MIT because he couldn’t get a loan from the school at the dinner table and people didn’t act like it was the most outrageous thing they’d ever heard. Sometimes she wondered if this was what she actually wanted - sure she liked Logan, and his siblings accepted her with open arms and genuine enthusiasm. But, did she actually want to stay with him for the rest of her life, knowing that his world was so much different than hers? The answer came in less than a year of dating him in the form of a bundle left on the doorstep one July morning, with a note that echoed the one her mother had left. And despite Logan’s absolute, and genuine confusion, he took the situation at face value and accepted the fact he now had a daughter. Maybe storks didn’t exist, but exes that he’d broken up with long before they’d met and consensual hookup under the influence of cocaine he’d never thought much about certainly did. And maybe most people would have left after being hit in the face that not only was their boyfriend suddenly had an infant on top of the fact he’d never mentioned his cocaine addiction before, but she really liked Logan. And despite the fact all of her friends were telling her to leave before the situation got wilder - she stayed. She’d argue that decision was one of the best ones in her life. It was hard, balancing med school and a daughter she hadn’t been planning on having anytime soon, but it felt worth it every single time she came in the front door and Isabelle’s face lit up. Maybe welcoming your first child in less than a year of dating someone wasn’t the most ideal situation, but the longer Clarissa spent with the two, the more she realized that she wanted this. A life with Logan, being Belle’s mom. When she was given chance to legally adopt the girl finally she signed the papers without hesitation. Clarissa was here for the long haul, even if it meant smiling through her future-father-in-law’s obnoxiously large parties and Logan’s siblings constant shenanigans. It was worth it.
And when Logan suggested moving to San Francisco after she finished up her medical program at Columbia (it was “close enough to Emmett to keep him out of trouble,” and yet “far enough away from LA they wouldn’t have to babysit him unless something went drastically wrong” - a proposition she could understand the appeal of). She applied to residency at UCSF and got into the program, found a nice four bedroom apartment and settled into her life in San Francisco.  As far as anyone needs to be concerned, Clarissa Olsen moved into the neighborhood with her fiance, their daughter, and the two youngest Elswood children who Edward sent to live with them the second he found out they were leaving New York. (Much to Logan's relief, if we're going to be honest). And if the neighbors make comments about how Belle got her nose and how the girl looks just like her, well... Clarissa’s never going to say anything to the contrary.
Schlaflos in Honolulu [#452] @kraftwerk-maxfichtner
Tumblr media
Die Geschichte von einer unerwarteten Begegnung in der Nacht, in einem Nachtcafe und was daraus entstehen kann.
„Schlaflos in #honolulu “ zu sein ist ein besonderes Erlebnis und ein sehr gutes Beispiel dafür, was alles passieren kann, wenn sich Christen vom Heiligen Geist leiten lassen. In seinem Fall führte unser Gott einen bekannten Pastor mitten in der Nacht in ein Nachtcafe . Und - bewundernswert - er erkennt die Möglichkeit die sich bietet und handelt.
Erlebnisse zwischen Himmel und Erde
Wo die #zöllner sind, wo die Sünder sind, wo die Parties gefeiert werden mit Jesus, da ist eine dünne Stelle zwischen unserer Welt und dem #himmel. Da ist es hauchdünn und #gottesnähe wird greifbar. Eine der schönsten Geschichten dazu will ich Euch erzählen.
Schlaflos in Honolulu
Es geht um Tony Campolo #tonicampolo , einem Pastor von der Ostküste, den es eines Tages nach Hawai verschlug. Dort konnte er erst einmal nicht schlafen (durch den Wechsel der Zeitzonen) und ging nachts um 3:30 Uhr in ein Cafe. Eben schon fast wie in dem Film: Schlaflos in #honolulu #schlaflosinhonolulu . Kurz nach ihm kam eine Gruppe von Frauen rein. Es war schnell klar, also ganz schnell klar, dass es sich um #prosituierte handelte. Eine von ihnen erzählte, sie werde am nächsten Tag Geburtstag haben, aber noch nie in ihrem Leben hätte es eine #geburtstagsparty für sie gegeben. Die anderen nahmen sie ein bisschen auf die Schippe, weil ihr das offenbar so nah ging.
Die Idee reift
Als sie weg waren, hat #campolo den Wirt gefragt: „Kommen diese Frauen jede Nacht her?“„Ja“, sagte er, „Jede Nacht“.„Wissen Sie auch, wie die heisst, die morgen Gebutstag hat?“„Ja, das ist Agnes. Warum fragen Sie?“„Nun“, sagte Campolo, „weil wir morgen früh hier eine Geburtstagsparty feiern werden“. Der Wirt erzählte das seiner Frau. Die Frau übernahm es zu kochen und zu backen. Campolo sagte: „Wenn Sie einverstanden sind,dann komme ich morgen früh um halb zwei und schmücke den Raum und bringe die #geburtstagstorte mit“.„Auf keinen Fall“, sagte Harry, der Wirt. „Schmücken dürfen Sie, aber die #torte spendiere ich“.
Die Party kann beginnen
Um halb zwei am nächsten Morgen war Campolo wieder in dem Café. Er hatte ein grosses Schild gemalt: Happy Birthday, Agnes! Er hatte ein Banner quer durch den Raum gespannt. Irgendwas musste durchgesickert sein, denn um 3:15 Uhr waren alle Prostituierten von Honolulu in diesem Café versammelt. Um halb vier kamen Agnes und ihr Freund. Und die ganze Versammlung stimmte an: Happy Birthday!
Überrumpelt
Tony Campolo erzählt: Ich habe nie eine Person gesehen, die so überrascht und durchgeschüttelt war wie Agnes. Ihr Mund stand offen, sie war unfähig etwas zu sagen. Ihr Freund musste sie stützen. Als wir sangen, bekam sie feuchte Augen. Als dann der Geburstagskuchen hereingetragen wurde mit all den Kerzen, fing sie richtig an zu heulen.
Das Geburtstagskind braucht Hilfe
Harry meinte nur: Komm, blas die Kerzen aus,Agnes. Sonst muss ich es machend Agnes konnte sich immer noch nicht bewegen, also blies Harry die Kerzen aus. Dann drückte er Agnes ein Messer in die Hand und meinte: Schneide die #torte an! Wir alle wollen ein Stück #kuchen haben. Da sagte Agnes ganz leise: „Kann ich sie nicht noch ein bisschen behalten? Ist es o.k., sie nicht gleich aufzuessen?“ Harry zuckte mit der Schulter und sagte: “Klar, kein Problem. Nimm sie ruhig mit nach Hause“.
„Dann bringe ich sie gerade eben nach Hause, bin aber gleich wieder zurück“, sagte Agnes, nun schon etwas fester. Sie stand auf, nahm den Kuchen und trug ihn vor sich her wie den heiligen Gral. Als sie draussen war, war es ganz still im Raum.
EIn Gebetstreffen mit Prostituierten
Campolo erzählt: Da ich nicht recht wusste, was ich tun sollte, bin ich aufgestanden und habe gefragt:“Wollen wir nicht für Agnes #beten“? Es ist schon ziemlich verrückt, ein #gebetstreffen mit einer Schar von Prostituierten, um halb Vier morgens in einem Café in Honolulu. Ich betete für Agnes, und bete um #rettung, und auch darum, dass sich ihr Leben ändern könne. Ebenfalls betete ich, dass Gottes Reich in das Leben dieser Prostituierten käme.
Die Reaktion
Als ich fertig war, lehnte sich Harry über den Tresen und meinte: „He, Sie haben mir nicht verraten, dass Sie ein #pastor sind. Von welcher Art #kirche kommen Sie denn?“ Es war einer der Momente, in denen einem die richtigen Worte wie von selber kommen. “Ich gehöre zu einer #gemeinde, die Geburtstagsparties für Prostituierte mogens um hab vier feiert.“ Harry wartete einen Moment. Dann sagte er:“Nein, auf keinem Fall. Das kann nicht sein. Eine solche Gemeinde gibt es nicht. Gäbe es sie, ich würde mitmachen. Zu solch einer Gemeinde wollte ich auch gehören. Aber das gibt es nicht, das gibt es einfach nicht.“ #party .
Warum die Geschichte so wichtig ist „Expedition Alltag“
Wenn wir in unserer „Expedition Alltag“ #expeditionalltag unterwegs sind, und versuchen mit #gott unseren Alltag zu gestalten, so das es reale Auswirkungen hat, dann geht es immer darum in den entscheidenden Situationen spontan richtig zu reagieren. Doch ich merke an mir selber, indem ich das Thema bei mir selber präsent halte. Mein Aufruf: Starte den Tag mit dem #gebet: Herr gib mir heute eine Gelegenheit dein #zeuge zu sein #zeugnisgeben ! WICHTIG: Dabei ist es wichtig sich selbst zu überlisten: Notiz auf den Spiegel, oder die #kaffeetasse bedrucken - wir brauchen das - alle.
ok! hello! back to regular blogging. if you weren't aware i'm now hosting the old blog on tumblr so this should be easier for me to update than manually adding to the html and dealing with archiving past posts. best part is you can barely tell save for the photos are handled a bit odd now o_<;;
so i'd like to catch up on errrrr Feb to October LOL a whole year practically. lets see what i've been up to...
did wondercon in Anaheim, uh then KawaiiKon in Hawaii. spent some extra time there afterwards as well, I always enjoy snorkeling ^_^ you regularly see many turtles but i even saw a pufferfish! honolulu is nice and walkable if you've got sun protection! plus lots of other people also walk around with a parasol so nobody heckles you for it (like where I live :|||) their bus service is decent as well. i had a pretty greasy plate lunch the first day i was there so it had my stomach upset like, the whole time ;_; did an escape room with friends for the first time that was pretty fun! unfortunately kawaiikon's moved to being juried and apps are not even open yet ??? so no guarantees i'll be back next year :/
also did another Las Vegas con, it was meh. i don't care for the organizers of this one they steal art for their advertising, overcharge for tables, and then put us next to a loud ass stage. don't like that! i'd already done Omegamart the year before but i was staying in Freemont which i've never visited. i'll be back very soon and hopefully get to Nevada early enough in the day to visit Goodsprings bc you know I am a New Vegas girlie ehehe. also did an Anime Impulse back in Anaheim. I usually don't care for them for the same reasons as those other organizers but at least the crowd is better! this past january one they stuck us in a leaky barn ;_; for the table price its pretty ridiculous but i always come back despite it all because the attendees treat me well lmao
left off with pins last time, but since then got shirts made! there's two designs, my "fallen angel" girlie and my cherubim design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can see them off to the side there, this is my booth Colossalcon East in Pennsylvania this September. super fun! great con, lovely weeby people in PA! along the top you can also see some of my new big prints i made in like 3 weeks. just drawing drawing drawing -w-!! this con i also got to meet Grey DeLise/Griffin and she signed my Azula print for me hehe <3
my plane ride home got delayed for thunder which was stressful bc immediately after i had a flight to Japan! eek! this was my second time going this year. i had been in 2022 right when it reopened to tourists so it was a much different experience this time, wayy more tourists about. ended up arriving right at the peak of a heat wave i took it easy though just doing some figure shopping and enjoying the food. i love family restaurants there so much lmfao they're so good and cheap. also met up with a friend from all the way back in middle school who also happened to be in shibuya the same night ??? made her and her partner go to Denny's with us later on lol! also visited Odaiba and Hakone this time on my birthday! Hakone is where Evangelion's Tokyo-3 is meant to be based in so they've got their own EVA store. I got a Unit 02 strawberry drink thing, should have got the matcha-taro swirl Unit 01 soft serve icecream >:)
got back and did some house keeping up until i found out there's a halloween party! i made a very quick costume out of stuff i had lying around. only spent like 5$ for some plastic fake chains. here's my alice (sans chains ofc) i made that apron in like a day out of an old pillowcase -w-;;; i don't sew much!! maybe i would be good at it if i bought plenty of fabric and followed instructions but we'll never know because i only try it out to make something silly with no pattern using scraps all in 1 day and then i get fed up and start using hot glue and hem tape. as one does! its got a little bow in the back too but i had no interfacing so its just a piece of printer paper giving it shape. this is what halloween is about!!
please ignore the background i'm in the middle of painting my bathroom lol
Tumblr media
up next i've got Sin City Anime in Las Vegas and Kumoricon in Portland. i like these two, completely different vibe and size but Sin City was cozy last year (they've since moved soo well see ??) and Kumori has some interesting people lmfao. i will see you guys at the swap meet +w+!! for sin city they asked if i'd be interested in an extra free booth for the 18+ lounge event and i was like ok sure why not and come to find i'm like one of 5 tables??? i don't know how it'll go over but whatever its something to do! i will have my tres leches cows and some new ones...here's a preview!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
whole milk is soOoO popular i'm so happy lmfao he is for the girls and the gays <3 i've got to do some more boys....its what the people want. maaybe a whipped cream to go with whipping ? ^_^ <3!
alright that's all for now! ttyl!
I can tell I'm losing weight because I look good and I completely fucked my period again. My skin is relatively clear. I'm getting back into working out. I only have a week and a half left of my eight-week t-break, and then I have my brand-new RoboTabs to try. I'm finally starting to get over this horrible cold (not COVID, I tested twice). I have my degree. I have a hot girlfriend, I'm in the longest and most stable romantic relationship of my life, and I lost my v-card just after Christmas. Everything is finally coming together.
And it doesn't matter that I'm jobless and living with my parents and miserable and lonely and numb and worthless and lazy and bored. It doesn't matter that I'm cutting again and I hate myself and my life and the pandemic and everything I've ever been and anything I could ever become. It doesn't matter how hard I cried last night, or that I slept not at all.
And so what if all I do is wish away the days until I can get fucked up again? My mind is this nothing little void of fucking bullshit when I'm sober. I'm terrified I'll fry my brain, so scared of getting any dumber I could cry, but what the fuck else can I do? I'm so bored of living and there is nothing I want but to be hot and thin and high. My life is empty. My life is nothing more than the supposition of a breeze on a day too cool to need it: this frail wisp of a thing you forget before it's even done.
I can't even spiral to have something to do, because I am unable to drive and I cannot leave my house without my parents' knowledge (if only because of all the fucking security cameras they're always checking) and I am so utterly helpless, so wholly dependent on my friends just to get a fucking rum and Coke. If I can't buy it on Amazon, knowing full well my mother will probably open the package, I can't have it. My contraband stash is limited to my edibles, my girlfriend's nude Polaroids, and my vibrator, all of which were given to me by others.
The tragedy of my life is that there is no tragedy. Only monotony, only my stupid teen angst bullshit (but I'm 21, not a teen—what's my excuse?), and so I spend all day in bed and cut my thighs just for a breath from my pointless, privileged, rich-girl ennui.
I miss showing up to class hungover and fresh out of the shower, hair still dripping, looking like death warmed over. I miss showing up to check-out at CVS with vodka, Robitussin, Band-Aids, razors, and copious amounts of Bang. I miss taking the bus late at night, walking alone in the dark in downtown Honolulu with my phone half-dead and no idea where or when to catch the next bus, backpack rattling with pills. Day-drinking. Getting followed home from the beach. Waiting at a shitty bus stop long past sunset with my head all stupid and slow and warm from a glowing kava buzz. Robotripping the night before class and coming to campus sleepless and hungover. Pulling all-nighters. Vodka shots to cure headaches. Heart palpitations from all the goddamn caffeine. Walking to 7-Eleven at 2 AM for Monster, a box cutter, and a roll of paper towels.
Oh, I spent every day alone my last semester of college. All my friends were an ocean away. I was not some party queen, not some Platonic ideal of a 21-year-old. In all actuality, I barely drank, barely got high—maybe once or twice a week, if that (unless you count kava, but it's hardly more psychoactive than caffeine). I was just a sad little closeted lesbian on a Mormon campus, far too sad to do much of anything but stay up too late and buy grocery store sandwiches.
But I got alcohol poisoning, yes, I woke up on the floor after hours unconscious in a pool of my own vomit. I celebrated Thanksgiving with a two-day bender—damn straight addiction runs in my family. I had twelve-hour robotrips. I got a piercing. I drank a bottle of champagne in one sitting for my 21st birthday. I cut my wrists and didn't care who saw, because I was an adult and no one could fucking touch me.
I had the option to fall apart when I wanted to. I had, if not a job, at least my classes (and goddamn if I didn't fucking ace them. Guess who graduated early with honors?). Sure, I didn't pay my own rent, but I had a room to myself, and a bus card, and I subsisted on granola bars and bubble tea and energy drinks most of the time but at least I went grocery-shopping. No one told me what the fuck to do, not my friends or my therapist or anyone, and if they tried I'd do exactly the opposite because, god, I could.
And I know, I know, I know I was only playing at being an adult. I know I've never grown up, and I know I am too stupid and lazy and weak and helpless to do anything for myself, and anytime I try my father or my mother or someone will step in and take it over for me because apparently I can't be trusted to so much as choose my own plane ticket. But fuck, it was so good to pretend. Just for a few months, it was good to play at being unrepressed and free.
I cannot pretend anymore. I'm a child. And I'll always be a child. And I can't drive, I can't work, I can't get out of bed, I can't do my laundry or fix my nail polish or make my bed or cook or clean or read or feel like a person. Because I can't, because I'm worthless, and I know it, I know it, I fucking know it. I go to church because I'm told to. I do not rock the boat. I'm 16 and 14 and 12 and 10 forever. I aged past high school but I've already forgotten it.
I hate myself.
I hate myself.
I hate myself.
