A little something for the morning of Lily's 30th birthday. Slightly suggestive.

She hasn’t recovered her breath yet when James joins her side, his hand supporting his head; the smirk that shines on his lips is half the reason Lily used to call him insufferable, though she doesn't feel like complaining about anything at the moment.

“Have I ever told you—”

“You like watching me afterwards, yes.” Lily wishes she could summon a bit of dignity to throw a pillow over him, but her body is too exerted for it. “It makes you smug.”

“You hurt my feelings, love. I just like to appreciate a job well done.” A giggle escapes her lips, amused.

“Speaking of well done jobs—” She turns around, her hand tracing the strings of the pants that he managed to keep on, but James just pulls her hand back up, placing a soft kiss over the palm.

“Oh, no, it’s your day.”

“Exactly, you cannot deny my requests today.”

“Later,” he vouches, eyes shining with all the promises that Lily will charge later. “Now—have I ever told you I’ve always had a thing for older women?”

“Prat,” Lily calls, eyes rolling at the same old joke; she moves to pat his chest, but James reacts quickly. His hand captures hers, and his lips trace her pulse, sucking the skin as gently as he was doing before—to other parts of her body, that’s it. “I’m only two months older,” she reminds him, though with less conviction.

“Still—I’d never kissed a woman in her thirties before.”

“How scandalous.” She pops one eye open, watching him with amusement. “Mind you, I’ve gotten the better bargain here.”

His eyes darken as they move down to her body. “I must disagree with you there, definitely.”

Lily laughs. “Well, I’m with a guy still in his twenties.”

The smirk is back on his face. “How about you enjoy all my youthful stamina?”

“Let me guess, you’ve also never—”

But her voice is cut by an insistent knock on the door, punctuated by loud barks.

“Oh.” James sighs dramatically as he raises from the bed. “Damn, I almost forgot—you bewitched me, Lily.”

“It’s my 30’s charm,” she replies lazily, accepting the robe that James throws at her.

When he opens the door, a black dog invades the room. “Don’t, Sirius, no—” but it’s too late. The dog is over the bed, licking her face. “I will nurture you, I promise!”

The dog gives a bark that’s too much of a laugh, but he backs away, probably sensing that Lily’s threat is only half-exaggerated.

And then Harry is carefully placing a tray over the bed, his happy face showing all his pride. “Happy birthday, Mum!”

“Oh, come here!” He hugs her, not minding the dog’s spit at all. “Did you make this all by yourself?”

“Sirius helped—but the toasts were all me!”

“And I helped to distract you,” adds James gladly.

“It was a surprise breakfast,” agrees Harry, just as Sirius shifts back.

“Keeping Lily from rising up early,” he mocks. “How hard was it?”

“Hard enough,” James answers, winking at Lily. “But I will give the second part of her birthday gift later.”

“Ugh. Details.”

Harry eyes them. “What are you talking about?”

Lily bites the toast; it’s perfect. “You will get it when you are thirty.”

All around the table, the Evans were all looking at Lily expectantly. Her mom broke the silence and said, “Go on and blow at your candles, sweetheart. Make a wish.”

Lily closed her eyes tightly and wished for an adventure. Up until that point, Lily didn’t have many friends, besides Petunia and the very nice, poor boy she had befriended this past Hanukkah. She wanted something more. She dreamed of living in a kingdom and being the most favored princess of village. She wanted to have people love her like she loves others.

She blew out her candles with this in mind.

30 January 1977

Everyone was gathered around Lily and the three tier cake that Marlene was able to get the house-elves to make. They were all smiling wildly and waiting for her to make her wish. She closed her eyes and wished for peace. She wished that she would stop wanting Se-Snape to be with her celebrating her legality in the wizarding world. She wish that his words didn’t hurt anymore. She wished that the world outside was as kind and joyful as it is right now in the Gryffindor common room. She wished that Voldemort didn’t exist and that this war would be over before they graduated.

She blew out her candles with this in mind.

30 January 1981

Harry, who was in James arms, starts clapping and laughing giddily. James laughs as well and moves to give Lily a kiss on the forehead.

“Happy birthday, my love,” he whispers to Lily as he pulls her into a little side hug, “Go on and make a wish.”

He gestures towards the little round brownie cake that him and Harry made. It had a three candles in it. Lily closed her eyes and wished for all of her loved ones to make it through the war safely. They were going on Order missions every other day and more and more of her friends were dying. Marlene was ambushed at her home in late November and Dorcas was soon after. Remus was undercover constantly and Sirius was getting frustrated with how long this war has been going on. Lily just wanted everyone she loved to make it to the end.

She blew out her candles with this in mind.

Remus voice was just above a whisper as he sang to the lone candle he was holding. His tears fell silently as he closed his eyes and wished for Harry to be okay. He wished that he saw it coming. He wished he saw the signs that his boyfriend was going to betray his favourite person in the world. He wished that her sacrifice was worth it. He wished for his best friend to come back. He wished everything were different. He whispered,

“אני אוהב אותך פרח השושן שלי”

(I love you, my lily flower)

He blew out the candle with this in mind.
