Second Chance (2016 TV Series) Season Review | Unrealized Potential
I re-watched #SecondChance, and the concept, storylines and performances still hold up. I totally recommend for all sci-fi and crime drama fans. #TVSeries #Lokinglass #ScienceFiction @adhirkalyan @DilshadVadsaria @RobertKazinsky

Peter And MJ (Spideychelle) Masterlist
Links Last Checked: February 25th, 2024
part two
5 Times MJ Made a Friend (+1 Time She Wanted More) (ao3) - juurensha G, 3k
Summary: It’s hard moving to a new school, but maybe hanging out with a bunch of nerds is exactly what MJ needs. Also, she tells Spiderman to call her MJ because really, who does Peter think he’s kidding?
a haunted house (with a picket fence) (ao3) - thesemovingparts M, 46k
Summary: I’m pregnant, she had told him, and Peter hadn’t much experience at seeing fear in Gwendolyne Stacy’s eyes, but he did then.
She had tried to cover it up with confidence, with lengthy monologues about her right to choose, and then she had, very quietly and very timidly, held Peter’s hand and asked would you help me if I kept her?
And in no universe would Peter have said no, in no reality would he have stepped away from that woman and the brand new little piece of her that he had yet to meet.
always slipping from my hands (ao3) - starsinyourveins T, 20k
Summary: This has never happened before. The worst she’s seen of Peter’s injuries have been black-and-blue bruises, split lips, bloody noses. But something like this – Peter shaking on her floor, burns wrapped around his side – this is serious. On anyone else, this would be a trip to the ER.
“I’m sorry,” Peter says. "I'm sorry, MJ, your apartment was closest."
(In which Peter looks out for the little guy, and learns how to look out for himself.)
and I’ll wear out the words I love you (ao3) - Bugsquads G, 4k
Summary: ‘Because MJ deserves the world. Peter loves her so much that he’d propose to her in a subway station or a 7/11. But she deserves at least one historical monument’
MJ and Peter make it to Paris seven years late, and right on time.
five things peter loses in apartment 335B (ao3) - peculiarblue G, 39k
Summary: and one thing he finds
(alternatively: peter falling head over heels in love with the pretty girl in 335A, as told by things he loses living in 335B)
good, great, and other acceptable synonyms (ao3) - peculiarblue G, 7k
Summary: Having a crush on Peter Parker is, objectively, a good experience.
But dating Peter Parker? Entirely too good.
(alternatively: peter runs out of good date ideas so mj makes him promise to never take her on a 'good' date ever again)
Green (ao3) - belby G, 5k
Summary: He leaves the news channel on long enough for her to comment, "Must be fun, swinging from buildings like that. Well, either fun or completely terrifying."
"Yeah," Peter says. And then, because he's an idiot, adds, "He's cool."
Michelle shifts, kicks her feet up onto the coffee table. "Hm. I'm more into The Winter Soldier type. Dark, mysterious, dangerous. That's cool"
Peter is about to reply through a steadily deepening frown - The Winter Soldier??? Cooler than Spider-Man??? Really??? - but when Michelle had shifted on the couch, she had somehow ended up with her shoulder bumping his, their arms almost pressed together, and for some reason the warmth of her body so close is really distracting. So he doesn't say anything.
(Peter is a dumb teenage boy who just wants Michelle to think he's cool).
I Might Do Anything For You (If You Let Me) (ao3) - spideysmjs E, 27k
Summary: Ned pauses before taking an opportunity to make Peter’s stomach churn with nerves, “and try not to fall in love with your new roommate.”
“I’m not going to fall in love with her,” he blushes, hiding his embarrassment by loading the suitcases into the trunk. “I don’t even know her.”
Michelle Jones subleases the extra room in Peter's apartment for a semester – pining ensues.
last, first christmas (Ao3) - thesemovingparts E, 8k
Summary: “You okay?”
“Yeah,” he sighed. “I’ve got May’s place all to myself tonight. It’s-- empty.”
“Yeah,” she replied in understanding. Her apartment was feeling pretty empty too.
Less so though, with him on the line.
*
OR: Ned Leeds is gone. This is their last Christmas with him, and their first Christmas without.
More Ancient Than Magic (ao3) - ironfamjam G, 9k
Summary: Life isn't exactly normal when your Head of House is also kinda your father-figure and his daughter is kinda sorta your little sister.
It's also not normal when the bad guys your real-life-war-hero-not-actually-dad defeated in The Great War threaten to return and you're still just trying to finish your Charms essay.
But Professor Stark asked him to protect Morgan. And that's what he's going to do.
Even if it breaks him.
Otterly Ridiculous Behavior (ao3) - ciaconnaa G, 5k
Summary: “You'd be that one." He presses his finger to the glass. "The pink-ish, orange-ish, yellow-ish, purple-ish -”
“-just say rainbow-”
“-rainbow fish. Look at her. She’s so pretty. Bet she’s real smart, too. Her eyes just scream intelligence, you know? All the other fish have a three second memory, but I bet she’s got like a five second memory. Maybe six. She’s clearly queen of the tank.”
“You’re a real dork, you know that?”
“Says the captain of the academic decathlon team.”
or;
Peter, MJ, and a date at the aquarium
perfect imperfect (ao3) - belby T, 8k
Summary: The one where Peter and Michelle are the dumb youth the media always warned you about, and get engaged while in college.
quoting poetry (ao3) - belby G, 3k
Summary: Peter gets hurt, Michelle patches him up; nail painting and poetry are also involved.
Rarely Pure and Never Simple (ao3) - thesemovingparts M, 41k
Summary: OR: Morgan had never been a part of their plan, all they’d wanted was to get their hands on Michelle Jones, investigative reporter who knew a little too much. But the kid had seen their faces, their truck, so the kid wasn’t going anywhere.
spilt truth and smudged lies (at least until the inkwell runs dry) (ao3) - SmilinStar T, 86k
Summary: “I have no idea,” he says, before lowering his voice because he’s still not convinced she’s not listening in on their conversations. The fear is well founded, alright? He swears she looks at him sometimes – with that quirked eyebrow, and penetrating gaze – as if she knows his every secret. And he has secrets. One big, red and blue, spandex covered, web-slinging, secret that no one can find out about. “Who knows anything about Jones?”
And it’s a legitimate question.
He knows next to nothing about their colleague.
Apart from the fact she’s damn good at her job, is incapable of uttering a sentence that isn’t dripping in sarcasm, is a little (a whole lot) intimidating, he knows nothing about Michelle Jones.
Not for lack of trying though.
Spring Break Fever (ao3) - chrono96 M, 126k
Summary: Right before their first spring break at NYU, MJ comes over to Ned and Peter's apartment for a favor: she needs someone to spend a week with her and her family in Hawaii, and come as her date to her aunt's wedding so her family will finally stop tormenting her about being single. There's one catch, though: Peter and MJ can't stand each other, and entangling them in a fake relationship will definitely ensure chaos...and maybe something else.
to you, i bequeath all of our yesterdays (ao3) - intrepidment T,
Summary: The progression of something more between Peter and Michelle, as seen by everyone else.

Felicia unclasps her purse again and pulls a photo out. She hands it across the desk.
Michelle takes it, frowning down at the black-and-white picture of a smiling, dimple-cheeked girl—blonde, beautiful, young and vibrant.
“Gwendolyne Maxine Stacy,” Felicia says. “Gwen, to her friends.”
Michelle glances up at her. “Are you a friend, Miss Hardy?”
“I like to think so. I employed her for over a year. She was a dancer at my club.”
Michelle raises her eyebrows. “Was? This is Jane Doe, then.”
“Yes. Her father is a police captain in Chicago. More crooked than a dog’s hind leg. But Gwen was a jewel, no matter how the papers want to paint her. She came here with big dreams of being a dancer, and some monster murdered her instead.”
“And you want me to find out who,” Michelle says.

Peter Parker Prince AU ‘headcannons’
Okay, to start I’m drawing inspiration from CW’s Reign. Because I just started rewashing it and I’m obsessed all over again.
Peter Benjamin Parker. Son of King Richard and Queen Mary of Yorka.
He, being the eldest son, is next in line for the throne.
Naturally this meant he was engaged to be married at a young age.
You gotta ensure those political alliances young lads.
Which is where Queen (Y/n) (M/n) of Stark was brought into the picture.
Being the only legitimate daughter of her Father, King Stark and Queen Pepper, she took over the throne when her father died, days after her birth.
The two and their countries had a common enemy: England.
Due to (Y/n)’s claim to the English throne, many assassination attempts were done on her life.
So she was offered safety in King Richard’s realm.
As a result, the two children grew up together in court.
They studied together, played together, and often slept together.
At age six, King Richard and Queen Pepper agreed to an engagement between his son and her daughter.
The two child royals knew this would mean one day they would wed.
Prince Peter didn’t take kindly to this idea.
Though, would any six year old?
But soon another attempt on Queen (Y/n)’s life lead her to flee to a convent.
And there she remained for years.
Peter saw these years of her absence liberating. He, as any young, male royal does, took a lover. He felt free from the stress of the political alliance.
Meanwhile Queen (Y/n) maintained a plain life at the convent. She learned many “commoner” skills.
But one day, yet another attempt on her life, lead her back to King Richard’s kingdom.
Now at a ripe age to marry, that’s exactly what she intended to do. To Prince Peter.
Once she arrived back at the country that raised her, she was reunited with ladies her mother in-trusted to care for her at court.
Lady Michelle of Jones, Lady Gwendolyne of Stacy, and Lady Mary Jane of Watson.
The four ladies rejoiced as they saw one another.
 Yet, something was off.
Prince Peter was nowhere to be seen.
Instead the ladies were met by King Richard and Queen Mary.
Peter heard the news of his fiancee’s arrival, but had no desire to reunite with (Y/n) yet. He craved a few more hours of freedom and solitude.
A royal wedding was preoccupying the castle.
One of Peter’s sisters was wed.
At the ceremony after the wedding, (Y/n) looked for her future Husband.
After not seeing him for years, she was curious as to what face he had taken.
The same couldn’t be said for Peter. He showed up to the party with his lover.
Once (Y/n) caught sight of Peter with a pretty, blonde woman at his side, her confidence was shot down.
But once Peter saw (Y/n) had taken a glance at (Y/n), he felt his heart rate pick up.
She had grown up to be a beauty. Her long and gawky limbs from her childhood no longer looked awkward. They looked natural. Her height had also changed. Growing up, Peter was always shorter than the Queen, but he had now grown to be taller than her. To him, this was very attractive. She seemed radiant. The picture of respectability.
But he noticed her crushed facial features. He followed her gaze to the woman standing next to him.
He immediately recoiled from the woman. He began to make his way to his future wife.
But before Peter could reach (Y/n) in the crowd, she, along with her ladies, were gone.
(Y/n) decided enough was enough and went to her chambers for the night.
But she did not sleep. She and her ladies stayed up, talked about their futures.
After she was dressed for bed, (Y/n) dismissed her ladies for their own chambers.
Not soon after a timid knock at her chamber door rose her from her sofa and place her book on her bed.
She shyly opened the door and was pleasantly surprised at her late night guest.
It was Prince Peter.
“Your grace.”
“Your majesty.”
“What brings you here at this hour?”
“Could I not greet my future wife?”
“It’s late.”
“You’ve gotten colder over these years.”
“Maybe I have reason to be colder.”
“Let me give you a tour of the castle tomorrow.”
“Why?”
“The castle has changed greatly since the last time you’ve been here.”
“I’m tired. I’ll give you an answer tomorrow.”
“Tired? You were just reading.”
“I’m tired of this conversation. Goodnight, your grace.”
“Always quick with your wit. Goodnight, your majesty.”
He over exaggeratedly bowed and left.
Given, it wasn’t the best meeting after years spent apart. Yet it is what it is.
Over time though, (Y/n) began to re-open her heart to the prince.
He began to show more of a princely side of himself to her.
He actively tried to win her affections in many ways.
From dedicating a fireworks show to her to sending her little gifts daily.
She also showed her affections to him with gifts.
Such as portraits, and her handkerchiefs would be left in his chambers with letters written by the Queen.
The two fell in love.
But their love was not with out complications.
Yet Peter was always patient with the stubborn and quick-witted Queen.
And The Queen was patient with the Prince’s passions.
And when Peter’s father passed away,
Peter became King Peter.
The pair reigned sensibly and justly.
While Peter’s kingdom was not (Y/n)’s by birth, she cared for it as if it were her own.
And the same for Peter about (Y/n)’s kingdom.
Soon enough Queen (Y/n) and King Peter welcomed a child, an heir to their throne
Anthony Benjamin Parker, Prince of Stark and Yorka. Named after their fathers.
Both countries were thrown into celebrations of epic proportions.
Many years of happiness and faire ruling followed. They were labeled as loved and respected monarchs.
And that’s that. Not particularly a “head cannon,” but there we are.

WHO'S BETTER: MARY JANE WATSON OR GWEN STACY? (Originally published on Facebook as Jennifer K. Barry)
The recent resurgence of live-action Spider-Man films has revived a decades-long (and incredibly heated) debate all across the internet: Mary Jane “MJ” Watson or Gwendolyne “Gwen” Stacy? Long-time Spidey fans have been quite vocal on this topic for many years, and those who were first introduced to the crime-fighting web-slinger via this decade’s film franchise also have strong views on the matter. In my personal opinion, several of the casting choices have been…er, questionable (Kirsten Dunst, I’m talking about you! - and for fuck’s sake, is it that hard to keep red hair dye in for more than just one movie? the least Raimi can do is to keep MJ’s iconic fiery hair, but I digress), and the writing would make even the most brilliant actress seem a mere shadow of the vibrant character she’s meant to portray. But that’s a rant best saved for another article.
So…I will admit that, until recently, I held a very different opinion on this matter: I was Team Gwen, all the way. After all, what’s not to like? Beautiful, kind-hearted, and most of all, smart. Surely, I thought, a genius like Peter Parker should be with someone he could approach as an intellectual equal. Mary Jane was also beautiful, and incredibly vivacious, but she seemed flighty and shallow beside the sweet-natured and intelligent Gwen. It was a no-brainer (and I’ll admit, I thought that MJ had none). I was fascinated by Gwen, so I took it upon myself to track down every Gwen-centric comic I could find. First among these was The Night Gwen Stacy Died, an event which forever altered the life and psyche of Peter Parker. I went on to read Spider-Man: Blue, a retrospective tale which chronicled the genesis of the star-crossed romance between Peter and Gwen. It sounded like the perfect start to a perfect relationship. But then a friend pointed out to me that the two lovebirds had not been without their share of problems - some of them quite considerable. My initial response was an indignant “pfft!” But I’m a person who likes to know the truth, sometimes to my own detriment. So I dove into hardcore research mode.
Well! I quickly realized that the stories of Peter and Gwen’s idyllic relationship were told only in retrospect. Gwen Stacy was Peter’s greatest “what-might-have-been.” Of course his memories of her were rose-tinted and perfect. As they’d never even had the chance to truly live, to love, to support each other, to push each other, and most of all, to help each other grow as people (as he and MJ had), he must have remembered his fleeting time with Gwen as being easy and innocent and pure - as he himself had been at the time. Many fans will argue that since Peter’s perfect life in House Of M had shown Gwen as Peter’s wife and not MJ, she must have been his one true love. It could also be argued  that Peter’s perfect world was one in which he had never let Gwen Stacy die. This is all conjecture, though.
What I do know is this: In the issues directly leading up to Gwen’s tragic demise at the hands of the Green Goblin, she and Peter were not doing well at all. Gwen was jealous of Peter’s continued friendship with MJ; Peter felt threatened by the reappearance of old rival Flash Thompson and demonstrated a complete lack of trust in Gwen’s fidelity to him (turns out Flash was not the one he should have been worried about, but more on that later); Gwen believed Peter was a coward for not showing up at a student rally (ironically enough, this was due to the fact that he was too busy saving all of their lives as Spider-Man); Gwen was angry that Peter was hiding things from her, yet she couldn’t handle it when he finally confessed to being Spider-Man, leading to an elaborate deception on his part; and, of course, she blamed Spider-Man for the death of her father, and swore to hate him forever! Sounds very romantic, huh?
Her death ultimately precipitated MJ’s growth and maturity. She and Peter drew closer together, and the rest is history. Yes, they had plenty of problems. They quarreled, they faced major setbacks at the appearance of Gwen’s clones (created by Miles Warren) and the arrival of Peter’s own clone in The Clone Saga Epic, and MJ turned down not one, but two, marriage proposals before finally saying “I do.” Thing is, though, the two also bolstered each other through every trial, tribulation, and tragedy, and it was MJ’s support and faith in him that helped Peter to deal with all the turbulence of his life (for examples of this, read Amazing Spider-Man #508-518).
Now, Gwen may very well have become that support for Peter, had she had the chance to grow and mature as MJ did. However, we have to look at things as they are, and the truth is plain: MJ was simply better for Peter. People criticize her for being an irresponsible party animal, but as I’ve pointed out, Gwen was not the saint everyone has made her out to be. Which leads me to…GWEN STACY CHEATED ON PETER WITH SPIDER-MAN’S NEMESIS, THE GREEN GOBLIN (THE VILLAIN THAT EVENTUALLY KILLED HER!). She bore him two children (who rapidly grew into adult death machines due to the Goblin’s enhanced genes, and attempted to kill Peter for the loss of their mother). Turns out, the real reason Osborn targeted her rather than Aunt May or someone else who was important to Peter was that Gwen had threatened to take custody of the children, and he saw her as a threat to his legacy! Gwen described her affair with Norman Osborn to MJ at the time (this is a partial excerpt from Amazing Spider-Man #512): “Under it all, there was this strength, this magnetism…so powerful, yet so mysterious…I didn’t intend for it to happen, but…there was something inside him…I couldn’t walk away.” Okay, Anastasia Steele. And people criticize MJ for being immature and not taking responsibility for her actions?
So I am now firmly Team MJ. I will never deny Gwen Stacy’s importance. Nor do I believe that a person can only have one true love over the course of an entire lifetime. But after reviewing all the evidence, I really can no longer see Gwen as better than MJ. I’m always glad to hear other opinions, and if anyone has an excerpt or even an entire comic that they think I should read that’s in favor of Gwen, please let me know! I have already read One More Day, but I hope I can be forgiven for not counting that monstrosity as evidence against Peter and MJ, since the majority of fans no longer consider it to be canon at all, and Marvel has done their best to undo the whole damn thing due to the heat they received over it.
Just don’t get me started on Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Madelyne Pryor, Emma Frost, and Betsy Braddock (Cyke has got a friggin’ telepath fetish - goddamn, why can’t he just like whips and chains like everybody else?), because my essay would be even longer than this one was, and filled with many expletives (and in many different languages). Do you have a character in Marvel whose love life is a candidate for Most Fucked Up?
