What skills are needed to be a freelancer?
There are a variety of skills that can be helpful for a freelancer to have, depending on the field they are working in. Some general skills that are often useful for freelancers include: Strong communication skills: Freelancers often need to communicate effectively with clients, so they can understand their needs and deliver work that meets those needs. Time management: Freelancers need to be able to manage their time effectively, so they can deliver work on time and meet deadlines. Self-motivation: Freelancers need to be able to motivate themselves to work on projects, since they are not typically working in a traditional office setting. Strong technical skills: Many freelancers will need to have strong technical skills in order to be able to perform the work they are offering to clients. Ability to manage finances and taxes: Freelancers must manage their own finances, including invoicing, tracking expenses and paying taxes, so they should have some understanding of financial management. Adaptability: Freelancers must be able to adapt to different projects, clients and work styles, so they should be flexible and open to change. Networking and marketing: Freelancers must be able to market themselves and their services, so they can find new clients and grow their business. Entrepreneurial mindset : A freelancer need to think like an entrepreneur to grow their business. Being a self-starter: Freelancers must be able to take initiative and start projects on their own.

If it’s not too intrusive to ask, what kind of work do you do besides streaming?
Voice acting. Some writing & editing/proof-reading for text. General miscellaneous "I like working on creative projects with friends / colleagues / friends of friends". Used to do programming & devops & a very tiny amount of sysadmin stuff but haven't touched that in years because the tech industry made me very depressed. LOL

Still trying 2 decide if going to school for art is worth it or no because on one hand I'm always in a constant state of being afraid of someday getting bored at my art but on the other hand it's the only thing I do and it'd be fun

ah yes I've been reminded about how much I dislike wash's arc with locus on chorus because it makes no fucking sense!
like that scene in s12 where wash has that dream about shooting donut? while perhaps understandable when looked at in a vacuum, it makes absolutely no sense in the context of wash's arc from s6-s10.
wash repaid his debt to donut by protecting him from one of the tex bots in the 100 tex battle (which is what that seemingly random line in that fight where wash says "okay, we're done here" is referencing), and wash mentally justifying shooting donut in the dream with a "I was just following orders" also makes no sense because that's not what happened!
pretty much everything wash did from mid s7 through s8 were all things that he chose to do. wash chose to go to the chairman and make a deal after he found out that caboose still had epsilon, wash chose to shoot donut and lopez (because he didn't know them and had no attachment to them), wash chose to take doc prisoner, etc etc.
yet despite all of those awful choices he made, the reds and blues still refused to let him die. they chose to save wash when they had every reason to not save him, and they did it because that's what friends do—they protect their own.
this is why wash pulling his gun on lina in s10, and the words that followed him doing so were so important. wash knew what she was feeling, he understood her on an intimate level because lina was mentally in the same place that he himself had been in not too long ago—but he was not going to stand by and watch her hurt his friends, and he was not going to let her force the reds and blues into a battle that wasn't theirs (like he himself had done in s6 on his quest to defeat the meta).
tldr; wash's arc on chorus with locus doesn't make sense because the whole point of his arc (and kind of lina's arc too) prior to chorus was unironically about rediscovering the power of friendship thanks to a group of dumb guys in colorful armor.

Hello dear! May I ask if you have any advice on how to make money at a very young age? 😓😓 I'm a teenager, and I already want to be financially stable, but I don't know where to start this journey. It's okay if you don't have any. Have a great day <33 ☺️🤗
Hi love! I would say gain a digital-based skill – such as freelance writing, social media management, content creation, coding, etc., to create a self-made portfolio, and pitch yourself to potential clients at an entry level. As you gain experience and professional work samples/accomplishments, you can increase your rates and dive into how to best organize your offerings into packages, retainers, etc. This process can take a few months to a few years, or be a small side hustle/passion project until you can obtain a more "stable" traditional job from an employer.
Financial stability can be really tough, so work your way up in milestones to avoid burning out due to an expectation gap in your earnings/your time and experience working. Keep an abundance mindset, but celebrate every win – from your first $50 to $1,000 made and beyond.
I don't know how old you are, so make sure you're covered legally and have a parent or trusted guardian in the loop if you're under 16-18 (I don't know your specific situation, field choice, work arrangement, or country you live in, so I'm going with this age range).
Hope this helps xx

Understanding the Medium
Tumblr media
Having an understanding of the medium you decide to use can be an essential factor to take into consideration. When creating a painting – specifically an oil painting – there is a quality of the paint that transcribes into the finished project. The way that the paintbrush strokes can be followed throughout the canvas, as well as the subtle mixing of colors when the paint is still wet.
Tumblr media
This knowledge can inevitably change the outcome of a piece, but don't fear! This does not always have to be a bad thing. One of the qualities of creating art is the ability to explore different mediums in a single artwork. Some people go crazy with the amount of mixed media they use on a singular art piece.
Tumblr media
Tip of the Post
Tumblr media
The media used is very influential on the outcome of an art piece that may be overlooked – especially in the digital art world. For example, I recently learned a transferring method, called sellotape printing, from one of my friends that allows you to transfer ink from paper to tape that you can then stick on another surface.
Tumblr media
You start by putting masking tape onto the image or text that you would like to transfer. Then you put the paper under water until it essentially dissolves and all that is left is the tape. If done gently, there will be nothing, but the ink left on the tape. From there you are able to place the tape on another piece of paper to overlay images etc.
Tumblr media
One thing I noticed while doing this is that the tape would no longer be as sticky as it was before, and I realized that it would have to be adhered with some sort of additional adhesive. The first few times that I did this I used rubber cement to attach it and I noticed that it released the ink from the tape and I was able to move it around with my nail once I placed the tape down. I used this to my advantage originally, but at one point I was trying to create a specific effect and the rubber cement basically dissolved the colored ink and it did not turn out the way I envisioned it to. I then found that a glue stick didn’t dissolve the ink and it worked much better for certain effects. This is a trial and error that I stumbled upon that I believe made aspects of my work better than they would have been without experimentation.

Beating Perfectionism
Tumblr media
Being a perfectionist is something that many artist are plagued with, and many others go against. Don't get me wrong, perfectionism can be a good thing . . . in moderation. Perfectionism often gives the idea of "pixel perfect" or "hyper-realistic" which is what some people want. However, this idea of perfection can sometimes limit the potential of an artist and their work.
Tumblr media
Being in a mindset where everything that you make must be perfect can make it hard for a piece of work to grow into its full potential. For example; say you have an idea for a drawing, and in your head, you know exactly what you want it to look like. You start drawing the first subject matter and you realize you don't like the way it looks. Maybe you get frustrated and erase it, throw it out, or lose confidence and ambition altogether and give up. For this example, let's say you push through and continue the drawing. You may find yourself being hyper-critical over every line you put down, and in the end, you are less than satisfied with the product. It may even go as far as deterring you from starting another drawing in the future because it was more a project for robots than a passion project. This can be the outcome of a perfectionist mentality because the desire to make something perfect can become overwhelming and unrealistic.
Tumblr media
Don't fear the art of imperfection! In Japanese aesthetics, a worldview called wabi-sabi embraces the art of imperfection in the world around us. An example of this is Kintsugi which is the art of fixing broken pottery by adhering the broken pieces back together with gold. The idea is that this creates a stronger and more beautiful piece from the formally broken.
Tumblr media
Don't Fear Experimentation
I know it's hard to leave your comfort zone, but don't let that stop you from creating new things. A hard lesson to learn as an artist is that not everything you make is going to be good and that is okay! Playing - and yes, I really mean playing - with different mediums can help you gain a better understanding and appreciation for certain techniques and art styles. It can also help your creative juices flow and lessen the feeling of obligation towards the pieces you make. Grab some markers, a couple pages from a random magazine, some tape, and your favorite color of paint, and go wild! It doesn't have to be "good", it just has to be real.

apparently i had high seniority at the agency i was at last year and had no idea until i just found out on linkedin. i should've had some idea since the director of ops said i was a lead contributor to the agency but i was like .. ok so i do a lot of grunt work no one else wants to do. like i'm a goofball! i was important! there was a reason why i put out fires all day and had people coming to me with problems constantly and why creatives would tell me they appreciate my leadership and management like it's because i was in leadership and management! i wish i could appreciate how good i am at what i do at face value. i wish i found comfort in it! i wish i weren't a perfectionist! i wish i weren't suffocated by imposter syndrome!

i am pleased to say that i have gotten to evp 999 on gone fission hydroplant for the first time! it took a lot of grinding and reflecting to get here, but it was such a fun rotation ✨
some thoughts under the cut....!
i think the best part of this grind was that i could start at EVP 300 rather than EVP 40. i say that, but i still spent a good 124 jobs getting there... whoops!
Tumblr media
this wouldn't have been possible without getting the bronze and silver badges first, which i wrote about here! i still stand by what i said in this post about key traits in salmon run players.
i feel that the key to my success can be boiled down to being able to rotate around the map and not overlap with what my teammates are doing- leaning into weapon strengths, all while flexing to other things when things go unaddressed.
for anyone curious about how the journey went, i streamed some of it on twitch!
EVP 575 -> 695 (Day 1) | 1 hour and 56 minutes
EVP 695 -> 865 (Day 2) | 8 hours and 11 minutes
while i did peak at EVP 935 on that second stream- as you can see, i quickly fell off of it (and i think you can figure out why).
i could talk about what i liked about my gameplay as well as what i didn't do well, but i think the vods speak for itself (and i usually made some kind of comment at the end of each shift as to what mistakes i did or what i could've done differently).
but i think the most important reminder of this particular grind was how important it is to take breaks while playing. my push from evp 865 to evp 999 was all done off-stream, after i ate dinner, took a shower to decompress and release tension, etc etc!
this push ended up taking around an hour- and all of the shifts were successful (well, except one). i don't think i can stress enough how important it is to take a break away from the game while doing these pushes, because i performed way better that time around.
i think it is evident to anyone who watches the twitch vod that i start getting really fatigued near the end. my movements aren't as sharp; i'm very sluggish. and the way i talk about the game too, is evident of how tired i was.
i still wanted to give an earnest attempt at grinding because i thought that: "well, if i'm able to clear 333% when fatigued, imagine doing it when my sense are actually sharp!" i had 4-5 hours to spare after the stream, and i'm glad i chose to try again in a better state. it was nice to clear HLM for the first time on a regular rotation!
i also feel pretty well attuned to snatchers on this map too now, which is lovely! i did feel that was something i was weak at, previously, but now it's more of a habit for me now which is good! :3c
anyway! fun rotation. of the weapon loadout, i feel like i've got a lot to learn about the s-blast, especially with ink management (i noticed that i died a lot because i couldnt ink paths to move around...). e-liter, while a bit slow compared to splat charger, can be immensely powerful if you can aim well under pressure. sploosh and splattershot are gods and i dont think i need to elaborate on that.
this is a very positive note for me to end my chill season 2023 on- i'll probably only be playing the chargers only challenge + eggstra work before shifting completely into reload (though i may still hop on from time to time)... i think eggstra work will be a cakewalk after doing a bunch of 333% runs hehe 😎
