English class taught me to embellish my stories with adjectives to draw it out for a word count when I should've learned how to cut it down for clarity.

Legit got told that I need to go less college work at my parents evening tonight.
I have done it.
I have surpassed academic weapon, I have reached academic nuclear bomb… My creators wish they could go back, alas they cannot, all they can do is watch the fire of academics consume my life.

Angry Teacher
Back again, because this is important and I'm mad.
Why is teacher training never about important things?
Why is it never about how to help kids with things that actually matter?
I would rather sit through a seminar about suicide prevention, Title IX laws, ethics, how to help children in abusive situations, how to help students with their mental health, etc.
But no. I have to sit here and learn why I need to name the characteristics of chocolate.
This is why the system is failing.
And it's bullshit.
It's all bullshit, and I'm tired of it.

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

Set Clear Goals: Clearly define your short-term and long-term academic goals. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks, and create a realistic timeline for achievement.
Create a Study Schedule: Develop a consistent and structured study routine. Allocate specific time slots for each subject, and avoid cramming. A well-organized schedule helps in better time management.
Utilize Effective Study Techniques: Experiment with various study techniques to identify what works best for you. This may include active reading, summarization, flashcards, mind mapping, and group discussions.
Prioritize Subjects: Identify your strengths and weaknesses in different subjects. Allocate more time to subjects that require additional attention while maintaining a balance across all subjects.
Stay Consistent: Consistency is key to academic success. Stick to your study schedule, and try to avoid last-minute cramming. Regular, focused study sessions are more effective than sporadic intense ones.
Seek Help When Needed: Don't hesitate to ask for help when you're struggling with a particular concept or subject. Consult with teachers, classmates, or use online resources to gain a better understanding.
Stay Healthy: A healthy body supports a healthy mind. Ensure you get enough sleep, eat balanced meals, and engage in regular physical activity. This contributes to improved concentration and overall well-being.
Limit Distractions: Create a dedicated study environment free from distractions. Turn off unnecessary notifications on your devices, and find a quiet space where you can focus on your studies without interruptions.
Practice Regular Self-Assessment: Periodically assess your understanding of the material through self-tests or quizzes. This helps you identify areas that need further review and reinforces your learning.
Stay Positive and Manage Stress: Maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of challenges. Stress can negatively impact your performance, so practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or exercise.
Remember that everyone has a unique learning style, so adapt these tips to suit your individual needs. Consistency, determination, and a proactive approach to learning will contribute significantly to your educational success.

I'm honestly not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.
But, in saying that, I need to make an announcement.
I'M GOING TO GRAD SCHOOL!!
Yes, that's right, friends! Your girl, Luna, is starting grad school on the 8th! I'm so excited!
Now, you might be wondering, "Umm...Luna, how the fuck do you plan to do grad school and teach preschool?"
Well, the short answer is this: I don't want to wait anymore.
I graduated with my Bachelors in 2020. I started working as a preschool teacher in the summer of 2021.
The children are wonderful...but I don't know how much more I can take of the school. There are some weeks I'm working 48-50 hours, as in *forced* overtime. Forced because "there is no one else that can" and "we need to be fair." (I have horror stories. Message me if you want to hear them)
I'm mentally and physically exhausted.
With grad school, I'm hoping to get out of the forced overtime. "No, I can't work after 3:30. I have homework." (I hope this in general breaks up my free time so I can do things like have a life outside of work and write to my heart's content.)
I'm getting my Masters in English education. This means that I could teach middle school and high school English. That is what I'm striving for.
If my job refuses to accommodate that...then I guess I'm going to give my notice.
Mind you, that's not what I want to do. I can't be without a job. I live in the United States, and that means that I need to work to be able to pay for health care. So I wouldn't just quit without a job lined up for me, despite how I may want to.
But I am seriously miserable. All of my friends and family want me to get the hell out of there. My own mother suggested therapy for me because of how I'm treated at work, and if you know anything about that woman, the fact that she even suggested a therapist for me is so out of character.
So, I'm taking the steps to do better things in my life.
But don't be surprised if I come on here and say, "Still doing grad school! I quit my job! I'm now working as a ____!"

I just want to be able to chill out for once in my life. Holidays are meant to be time to relax but I can’t help but feel like I should be doing some form of college work and since I’m not doing much I’m doing to let myself down and won’t get the grades I want.
I know it’s because I put to much pressure on myself when it comes to academics having decided it’s a good idea to shove all my self worth in academics due to ✨trauma✨ and I really really want to do a job that requires good grades. Yet despite knowing all that I still cannot calm down about it. For some reason I’ve decided if I don’t do any work over the holidays I will fail my A-levels. It’s stupid, I do a lot more work in free periods than the majority of people (no shame to them, in fact more power to them for being able to chill) and when I had days off when studying for GCSE I had the same feelings and still ended up with all A*’s but I can’t shake the guilt and anxiety even knowing all this. What’s more, I’m in lower sixth and getting A’s in the first proper exams we’ve done but I’m scared I can’t keep it up and will somehow bungle it and just fail spectacularly on the actual exams. (Writing this I am suddenly realising I have worse anxiety than I thought I did lol)
In conclusion, stupid brain go brrr, my logic likes to shut down when it goes brrr and the education system is flawed if we feel so pressured to work during time off.

Some funny facts about me and my knowledge of English!
As I said before, English is not my native language, but I am very interested in learning it. It's full of incredible, amazing things! And do you know what my favorite phrase is in it? It's weird, but... "By the way"! I use it constantly everywhere. It doesn't matter if it's just needed now or not. IT'S. JUST. COOL.
English-speaking people, please excuse me if you don't like it.
