thinking about how eiji's a pole vaulter and how ash talks about eiji "flying" and how eiji's associated with bird imagery and how eiji's free (unlike ash) and how eiji comes in on a plane and leaves on a plane and how ash cannot fly, ash cannot be free, how nyc is ash's prison, and how ash is the leopard who dies climbing the mountain, unable to live at such elevation, how he was trying to reach the sky and be free but was always stuck to the earth, how he chose to die instead of climbing back down, how he chose to die where he could see the sky and hope and freedom almost like a bird with eiji's letter right in front of him rather than letting everything go wrong and ruin it once again, how eiji's a failed pole vaulter anyway, how a bad fall ruined his career and grounded him (physically and emotionally), how it took flying to america and meeting ash and needing to save him and skip for him to try flying again, how he landed hard and harsh and still the thought of that escape compelled ash to protect eiji at all costs because if he could fly that means something to him, even if he doesn't think he can fly, how eiji is the manifestation of his hope and how when he breaks and asks eiji to stay with him a while he folds himself over his legs and weighs him down and traps him and grounds him, how ash fights like hell to keep eiji alive not because he thinks he can be like him (hopeful, flying, innocent), but because he makes him forget the gravity of his situation, and so he can see eiji fly again. how he wants to see him escape. how eiji is a bird and ash is a wildcat and how ash never once saw eiji as prey. how eiji never saw ash as a predator. how it is eiji's naivete that first endears ash to him, how it is his freedom and flight and removal from darkness and his ability to leave that darkness that really roots eiji in ash's blood as something essential to him keeping on living in this hell of nyc. how it is that distance from the violence and that hope for the future that ash chooses to surround himself in as he dies. how ash dies in a dream because he feels more than anything that he can't fly like eiji, that he can never leave. how his violence is a part of him and will be forever, how it weighs him down. how he wants to enjoy the view from the mountainside rather than looking up from the ground below. as if they can both fly. as if he is with him up there and not grounded. eye-to-eye with what he can't have, seeing eiji's homeland: the sky. how he dies trying to reach the top because he couldn't take retreating and trying again. how ash, tired and tired and tired and convinced it will go on forever if he crawls back down the mountain, chooses to close his life deluged in eiji, in eiji's insistence that they can fly together, in eiji's hope for him and for them, in eiji's beautiful dream. how ash dies without trying to realize that dream. how ash, in dying, destroys it.

"Only a master could make that cut"
Tumblr media
I've seen a few people on Reddit and Youtube talk about how Fowler was supposedly hyped up as a master swordsman and were thus either disappointed by Mizu and Fowler's fight in episode 8 OR they felt it didn't fit Fowler and that he was made OP. Starkly different assessments.
Personally, every scene of or discussing Fowler (namely how Madame Kaji speaks of him) points towards his main assets (combat wise) being strength and brutality.
I personally think Mizu's assumption that only a Master could make that cut makes sense for how Mizu learnt swordplay - namely by practicing what she observed masters of various schools perform for Master Eiji as part of their sword being forged appropriately for how they'd use it. Taigen somewhat challenges Mizu's idea that skill matters most in combat (since her skill and wit is proven effective more often than not) by overpowering Mizu despite using Shindo Ryu (trash technique). Showing that strength can be as important as skill in turning the tide.
The Giant reinforces the power of strength and Mizu's difficulty outperforming it in combat. This is then reinforced by Taigen's comment about The Giant not needing a weapon to kill her (which The Giant almost does in episode 6).
Plus, the Tea Party fight showcases ways Fowler can (and then does) overpower Mizu. Including a chokehold, and even breaking her bones in the same hold as Fowler.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mizu is literally and figuratively bringing a knife to a gun fight. Fowler doesn't need to have mastered the sword, as Mizu has, to beat Mizu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically, I don't think Mizu's comment about the flower is enough to assume Fowler is a master swordsman. Given that we see him before Mizu does, we see what he is actually like and capable of. That cut was made cleanly because Fowler is both strong and precise. A practiced sadist with two decades of experimentation to hone any method of injury he pleases, not a swordsman.

@kirishima-eijirock :: for the holiday event, could I please request an under the mistletoe for kiri? tysm ilyyyy
a/n :: hi bby !! thank you so much for entering, i hope you like this (i loved writing it sm, i love you too !!) gn!reader, fluff
event.
Tumblr media
“pretty, please come here.”
you look up from your phone to be met with your boyfriend standing idly, red eyes already watching you. you notice kirishima has his hair down, which makes sense given how lazy he got with it when he had no plans to go out.
“what’s wrong, eiji?” you're quick to discard your phone, placing it on the couch before you rise to make your way over. you're intrigued, wondering just what he wanted from you.
kirishima reaches out his hand for you, which you take gladly once you're close enough. gently, the redhead tugs you closer to him so that you're standing right in front of him. a smile takes over at the close proximity— you could never quite get over the way he grins at you when you're so close to him.
“we’ve actually got a little problem, angel,” he muses, pointing upwards. you follow his motion with your eyes, and that's when you notice, with a growing smile, the green hanging above the two of you. “looks like we've found ourselves under some mistletoe.”
“and when did you put this up, eiji?” you're amused, he can tell by the way you look up at him, the skin around your eyes crinkled softly by your curved lips. you make him want to hang mistletoe across every inch of the ceiling, because what else would he rather do than kiss you?
“that’s not important, baby.” kirishima hands slide against your sides to rest gently at your hips and your arms wrap around his shoulders perfectly, like they do every single time. every part of him feels shaped perfectly for you, and he loves how snuggly his hands fit against your dips and curves.
“uhuh, and what is?” you tilt your head a little, looking at him in a way that has him disarmed every time, stripped with nothing but naked adoration remaining.
“looks like you gotta give me a kiss, baby. according to holiday tradition, of course.”
kirishima doesn't need to fall onto holiday traditions for kisses and he knows you'll give him as many as he asks for, regardless of the time of year. still, you know just how much he loves being cheesy in adoring you, and you're more than happy to indulge.
“yes, of course.” you give him a quick peck, grinning at the little pout he gets at the loss of your lips on his.
“that’s not fair, baby— you're cheating.” you can't help but laugh at his words, your hands moving to cup his face and squish his cheeks a little. he's adorable like this, asking so sweetly for your affection.
“cheating how, eiji? i kissed you, didn't i?” you're teasing him, eyes glinting with joy and you only make him want to kiss you more. kirishima pulls the best puppy eyes he can, silently asking for you to kiss him like you mean it.
after a playful eyeroll, you get close enough to brush your lips against him and he takes care of the rest by pressing his against yours. you feel him smiling into it, his arms wrapping around your waist so as to pull you even closer to him.
after deepening the kiss, kirishima can't seem to get enough of you, lips moving so eagerly that you’re the one who has to pull away after a while so you both can breathe.
“are you happy now, you big baby?” you're smiling again and honestly, playfulness aside, kirishima is happy just thinking about you. he's happier when he gets to touch you like this, feeling your warmth— it reminds him that you're glowing with the sweetness of life and that you choose to love him with it every single day.
“very, very happy.” he exhales, his soft lips slightly swollen and pupils slightly dilated as he looks at you. kirishima’s thumbs caress the small of your back and the fleeting touch, along with the dazed grin he wears, almost dizzy with infatuation, has you pulling him closer for another kiss.
you were spoiling him, and kirishima was more than happy to let you kiss him as much as you wanted to.

oh, how he loved the season of giving.

THE CAMERA AND THE GUN
(tw: discussion/explicit mention of Ash Lynx's past)
I think that as a fandom, we don't appreciate the importance of Eiji being a photographer (or going to the US as one) enough.
Given Ash's past, cameras are something he's very vulnerable under. He's constantly been exploited for his body and image, and the child corn videos of him were still up for distribution until Max burned all of it. Even the sound of cameras can be a triggering memory, such as when he's confronting Kippard and he's transported back into a childhood memory with the incessant "click click click" of the camera.
Eiji, showing up to that bar, pulling up a camera with his job literally being to take pictures of him, embodied everything Ash should distrust. However Eiji asks is he can take the photos, and Ash replies "not the face", this obviously makes sense given he's a criminal, but with what we learn later it's obviously more than that.
Ash was carrying a gun, Eiji a camera, to both of them what the other person was carrying was the greater weapon. However, famously, Eiji asks for Ash's gun, takes it and gives it back and says "thank you for trusting me with it", which I think is really key. Ash has just seen that if he can trust Eiji with a gun, perhaps he can trust him with a camera.
Which he does. We never really see Eiji take pictures of Ash during the course of the show, but we know he did thanks to garden of light, where we actually see some of them. The fact that Eiji has a camera, giving him the power to make Ash feel vulnerable and observed, but doesn't at any moment, must've given Ash so much hope. In the same way he tells Eiji that it's the first time anyone has done something for him without "asking for something in return" this is probably the first time someone has had the power to hurt him and not used it.
The fact Ash can trust Eiji so fully with a camera, and feel comfortable and unguarded around him just speaks so so much to the nature of their relationship and just how deep and true it was. With Eiji, Ash really can just be himself "a boy of 17 years old" he's not afraid in the slightest, even if every single thing from his past should tell him to run. The trust Ash has in Eiji is just as great and moving as the trust Eiji has in Ash. Eiji tells Ash he was never scared of him, not for a moment, which is something that Ash finds great comfort in, but it's also true the other way around.
Eiji the one who trusted a boy with a gun and Ash , the one who trusted a boy with a camera. Gosh I love them.

Names and their meanings - Blue Eye Samurai
Mizu- means water; this can represent that Mizu travels across the waters to find her biological father to kill him. Can also represent her flexibility within her identity. There is nothing solid. Mizu has lived her life as a man and a woman. She is both white and Japanese. Mizu draws the line between a swordmaster who appreciates the art of the sword and a person stricken with grief who will stop at nothing to achieve the vengeance they so crave. During the play, Mizu was both the ronin and the onryo. There is not one identity you can give to Mizu because she is as flexible and changing as water. After all, you can't keep water in your hands forever the same way you cannot tie down Mizu to one identity.
Tumblr media
Akemi- translates to Bright Beauty. Akemi is mentioned to look nothing short like a princess even when her kimino was covered in dirt. The bright in bright beauty could also be taken as intelligence. Akemi throughout the series becomes knowledgeable, and well tempered. Fitting of a wise princess. You could also argue that bright could refer to her ambition to be great.
Tumblr media
Taigen- means strong, fearless, and warrior. Taigen is regarded to be a strong samurai throughout the series, with Mizu even acknowledging his strength. He definitely fits into the warrior archetype. Always wanting to restore his honour, appreciating the art of the sword, physically strong, coming from a humble background, etc. Taigen is fearless to an alarming degree. Of course, he's brave but it can be deadly to the point of recklessness. For example, he was confident he could beat Abijah Fowler's gun with his sword. Not even considering the advance technology of guns.
Tumblr media
Ringo- means apple. This one kinda stumped me, but I have an explanation that I hope makes sense. There's the saying, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Usually referring to children being alike to their parents. In the beginning, we see that Ringo is helping out with his father's restaurant. Cooking noodles and serving customers. After seeing Mizu's showdown in the restaurant, he's inspired by her. Wanting to be her apprentice because Ringo wants to be a great samurai. In the season finale, Ringo is led to believe that Mizu has died. Master Eiji takes Ringo under his wing to learn the art of sword making. I believe his name refers to his willingness to always learn. Ringo learned from his father, Mizu then Master Eiji. (Taigen even teaches some stuff about fighting) I'm sure that him learning from all these people will lead up to something. Maybe Ringo will become a Jack of All Trades.

How long will Nintendo's strategy last compared to XBOX's and Sony's strategies?
Seems to have kept working pretty well for them for the last, oh, say, 42 years?
If Nintendo themselves is to be believed, they have only ever sold their own products at a loss like, twice? Ever? One of the only times their sales ever visibly underperformed (on the Wii U), Satoru Iwata docked his own pay so they wouldn't have to fire anyone.
I think about this a lot, but I remember Eiji Aonuma saying that the HD remaster of Wind Waker HD had a higher budget than the original Wind Waker did. Considering Wind Waker HD wasn't a dramatic mechanical change from the original game, I take that to mean R&D on the lighting engine cost as much as an entire game did.
Which makes me think development costs on the original Wind Waker must have been tiny. And considering Nintendo doesn't hire celebrity voice actors or license music and limits how much outside contracting they do, it makes a lot of sense.
Nintendo is known for making the best of the bare minimum and they reap gigantic profits from that. They're worth something like 66 billion dollars? They could probably stop making games tomorrow and continue to operate their office for the next five to ten years.
Asking "How long will their strategy last?" as if there's some kind of logical endpoint where they will cease to exist is almost like telling a joke to me. Like, you don't even have to like their games (there are definitely some that I don't), but you can't deny they are incredibly frugal and balance their books extremely well.
If the market ever crashes again and all video games as we know it cease to exist, the last game on store shelves will unquestionably be a Nintendo game.

Hi! I don't know if you've answered this before, but I wanted to ask what your thoughts are on the Banana Fish ending? I honestly can't tell how I feel about the way it ended.
Oh my gosh I'm so sorry, I think this ask got lost and I'm not sure how long ago you sent this lol. Anyway!
I've talked about this a bit before so I won't go into detail right now, but honestly, I think the ending makes sense from a story perspective? My issue with it really has nothing to do with the story arcs or anything from a fiction perspective. Honestly, I just find it rather ... irresponsible, if that makes sense? As a creator, you have to be aware that your work has the potential to have an impact. This (obviously) does not mean that you have to write everything "correctly" or that you can only portray "good" things, but it DOES mean that you should be thinking about how people will react to the messages you're sending.
Banana Fish is far from the only story to portray what is essentially a suicide completed by a character who's gone through hell. However, what really upsets me about the Banana Fish ending specifically is that it almost romanticizes Ash's death? After a whole series of very intentionally NOT romanticizing any of the pedophilic or abusive relationships, the story then goes on to portray Ash's death in an almost positive light. This is countered a little bit in the manga side story Garden of Light, because we get to see Eiji living the impact of Ash's death seven years later. However, even there, I don't personally believe that's really enough to counter the message that the anime/manga ending seems to send to people who might have seen themselves in Ash.
I think it makes sense for Ash to die there, both from his own perspective and from a storytelling perspective. However, just because it's a poetic and tragic ending doesn't mean it's a responsible one or that it's a choice I can necessarily endorse on Yoshida's part.
I hope that makes sense, but let me know if there's anything I can help clarify!

(so uh. i deleted this earlier cuz i got some negative comments and felt bad but im putting it back up now cuz i like it still.)
Gosh, slowly entering Blue Eye Samurai Tumblr is kinda disappointing with how many people are against headcannoning Mizu's gender. I personally view Mizu as a gal, which seems to be the prevailing opinion often stated with the most contempt for headcannons. But not acknowledging other interpretations goes against the very idea of literature if you ask me. Mizu's story can be viewed in plenty of ways that are all unique and wonderful.
Cis female is often defended as the only identity which properly aligns with the difficulty of fighting societal expectations of gender at the time of this story, but the fact is, any trans perspective would also obviously be against the expectations of 1600's Japan. I say any trans perspective because there's three main ones, from what I've seen at least - Trans Male, Trans Female, and Nonbinary.
I have a lot to say so I'm putting the rest under a read more lol. Also fair warning I'm not actually that good at describing things, but I promise I'm trying my best. :)
(From here on, I'll be switching Mizu's pronouns per section.)
Trans Male
Trans Male is an incredibly evident interpretation. Mizu has a traditionally male name in Japanese culture from what I've learned, binds his chest, presents as male and worries about being seen as female. Yes, there's the counterpoint to this stance of Mizu saying he "had to be a man" for the sake of getting revenge, however, he says this to a man he's taken interest in. A man who, given the society then live in, would likely not understand or agree with the idea that Mizu considers himself a man, let alone like him still.
This is a point where Mizu is, arguably, at his weakest, giving into society for the sake of happiness, which is still powerful from a trans male perspective, of a trans man feeling trapped but desperately clinging to anything that makes life feel okay, even if it involves breaking away from his own comfort.
As a trans woman I can't speak specifically on that, but in the year before I started socially transitioning, I would cling to anything that made me feel happy despite the pain of being seen as a man that came with it. It's valid for a pre- or non-transitioning trans person to sacrifice some gender comfort for other comfort if that's all they can attain for the time being.
Back to Mizu, I don't think it's less powerful for moments of "Mizu is nervous about being found to be a woman" to be turned into "Mizu is feeling pain from being misgendered and wishing he could live truly as himself." It's not an interpretation I personally follow, so I'm certain it could be better articulated by someone else, but it still upsets me that some people try to invalidate it.
Trans Female
So, this is one I haven't seen as often, or at all truthfully, but I found myself relating to Mizu as she effectively has to boymode throughout the story. It recontextualizes Mizu saying she "had to be a man", now being a truthful statement about the desperation to be seen as her real self, and turns her time as a wife into even more of an escape. Further on, it makes Mizu being referred to as a monster more depressing, as it rings true to an unfortunately real part of life, of transphobes feeling a sense of unearned betrayal upon finding out someone they like is trans.
It adds to the relief of Mizu removing her binding and relaxing, and to the pain of Mizu trying to come out to Master Eiji while he denies it. Given the society Mizu lives in, it's such a painful desire to have to want to be a girl - to know your destiny is something that will hurt you. Living as a girl would make her happy, so she doesn't want to be happy. She needs to lie, and escape from desire, so she looks for a way to feel satisfied while repressing her feminine side.
As a trans woman, this sensation is like the struggle accepting one's identity, along with trying to avoid accepting it even once it has become obvious. Being trans is not easy, it never has been, so it's not unrealistic that Mizu would latch onto priorities, or at least what she convinces herself are priorities as a method of escapism.
Honestly, it's not the easiest position to defend, as it's one of the least clear out of the possible Mizu headcannons, but it's still important to me that I pointed it out.
Nonbinary
It's time for my hottest take - Mizu's gender doesn't have to matter in the story. Yes, as many have pointed out, the disparity in social recognition between male and female can be incredibly important in their journey, but it's not required for every single interpretation of Mizu. Mizu wants revenge - they've made it evidently clear that this takes priority over everything else, over friendship, romance, and most likely, gender.
Now, I'm not saying nonbinary as a label is equal to disregarding gender, but in the case of Mizu - whose name means "water", or fluid - I feel it's applicable. I've talked a lot about priorities before as an excuse, but what if they're not? What if Mizu simply doesn't care for gender in any way? They certainly don't agree with social conventions, unless we consider how they see themselves and white men as demons, but that doesn't necessarily relate to gender.
It's hard to find direct examples of Mizu being nonbinary, as they live in an incredibly binary world where they serve as the exception. Mizu sticks out everywhere, too masculine to be a woman and too feminine to be a man, so they rest elsewhere, never seen correctly by another character in the story. Ringo says that it's okay they're a woman, Fowler insults them for it. Taigen and Akemi both have no reason to believe Mizu isn't a man, no matter how they feel about it.
Mizu only needs themself, because only they understands themself. They represent an idea that, in their time, doesn't exist - being neither man or woman - which opens up new ways of interpreting the events which Mizu goes through.
Conclusion, I guess
Which then leads to the point of this post which has gone on longer then I thought. New and unique ways to interpret a story are vital to media and literature as a whole, so why would we stop others from expressing and experiencing that? Unless a take is genuinely harmful or presented as though anyone who doesn't believe it is stupid or viewing the story incorrectly, then please, don't dissuade them - encourage them!
Learn more from others, share ideas and points about this amazing show, analysis and have fun, good-natured debates! That's the moral of this post. Have a nice day, everyone.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS I'M FINALLY DONE WITH ALL OF THEM *falls on the floor*
okay okay i'm actually kinda proud of myself?? :'D like i always prefer just. drawing characters even though i don't really avoid drawing backgrounds and i don't find drawing them that difficult but i rarely pay attention to things like. doors so yeah it's kinda cool that i've managed to come up with ten different door designs and draw them! even though most of them don't even look like doors. it's okay listen i just wanted to make them as weird as their mvs okay
(also about some prisoners having the symbols on their uhhh restraints and most of them not having them. well you see i just didn't have any energy left to draw them so i was like "it's fine i'll just draw the actual symbols later" and guess what. i didn't :) and i'm too tired to draw all of them so y-yeah. honestly maybe i'll change the symbols to something else like it takes way too much time to draw them and they're not even that close to the canon ones)
okay sorry for rambling, you can read everyone's song previews, titles (though you can see them on the covers, but still. or maybe you can't see them i'm sorry if the text is hard to read 😭) and album trailer voicelines under the cut! and also more of my rambling

Kei: "It's time for your punishment, Eiji~"
Eiko: "It's like.. your life finally has a purpose."
Asahi: "I wanna go home, even if I don't have one anymore."
Yurika: "THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE!"
Riku: "Haha, trust me, I'm strong enough to do that."
Reina: "So, yeah, the show's over."
Song titles:
Akio: The King's Execution
Aimi: Mask of Kindness
Shun: Wrong Route
Naomi: Your Story
Kei: Web of Desire
Eiko: As Seen On TV
Asahi: 'Cause I Deserve It
Yurika: Bitter Aftertaste
Riku: Trendsetter
Reina: Death of the Author
Song previews:
Akio: "Come on, fight me, punch me, beat me to death,
Show me how you've really felt about me all this time
There's no one left to support me, no one left to call me "Your Majesty"
I guess it's time for me to admit my defeat"
Aimi:
"Let's have as much fun as we can today, like this is the last day of our lives
I won't ask you to be careful, I know you won't listen to me anyway
Let's make these moments more colorful than ever before
Let's turn today into our best masterpiece"
Shun:
"I know that this is the best option, I don't even need a guide
"Real life"? What's that? Some kind of joke?
I know you will love me in every world and universe
Tell me I'm your everything, let me get the best ending"
Naomi:
"I can't believe I found out about this only now
Why didn't you tell me sooner? Why didn't anyone else tell me about this?
Your life was so short, but so full of pain
Does this mean that I've saved you from all that suffering?"
Kei:
"Congrats, you've fallen right into my trap
Make yourself comfortable, you're in for a long ride
Tying you up, choking and biting
Keep your eyes on me, take those rose-colored glasses off"
Eiko:
"Yay, she did it, good for her! What an icon, am I right?
Haha, thank you, thank you! Serves him right, I know
You've forgiven me, darling, so let me thank you properly
Tell me what you want, I will give you everything and more"
Asahi:
"Give me more, you know that it'll never be enough for me
You want me to repay you? That's funny
Why should you give me so much and get nothing in return?
It's obvious, 'cause I deserve it"
Yurika:
"Please, please, make my world sweet again
This world is so cold, so bitter, if I take a bite, I'll get poisoned for sure
Hey, hey, what are you saying? You want more sugar as well?
Sure, anything for my master! But you're not her, so get out."
Riku:
"Now, listen, I don't like to do this
I'm not the type to abuse my power
But looks like it's time for you to get what you deserve
So get him, everyone, I'll pat you on the head later"
Reina:
"What about my crime? What about my sins?
Well, why don't you figure it out yourself?
I'll let you decide, I'll let you write my story
Aren't you the one who's supposed to judge us anyway?"
Random facts about everyone's song titles, lyrics and doors (spoiler-free. mostly):
The silhouettes from Akio's T1 MV are back!
If you've read Aimi's T1 MV description, you probably already went "Wait, is her song title a reference to that mask from her video?" and you are correct!
Shun's song title is kinda supposed to be a pun? Basically it's a reference to dating sims, character routes and all that stuff, but it's also supposed to mean taking a wrong path in life or something like that.
Naomi's song title was the hardest one to come up with and it turned out to be the most boring one. I am so sorry.
I actually wouldn't say that Asahi's door shows his MV that well, since his video will actually have mostly white and green colors, but I thought that a door like that would look boring, so yeah, I made it more colorful!
"Why is Yurika's door like that?" Oh, don't worry, compared to Asahi's door, Yurika's door shows her MV perfectly fine <3
Riku's door. Riku's door made me go through so much pain, IT WAS THE LAST DOOR I CAME UP WITH. I LITERALLY HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DRAW. Not even because I dislike his MV, it's just that his MV has this motif that's. Very hard to show as a door. Like all ideas I had just sounded stupid so I decided to go with something like this instead. Also I still hate drawing chains and I used a brush instead.
Yes, Naomi's door just. Looks like a diary. BUT I TRIED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A DOOR OKAY I TRIED
Reina's door having a more "actor-like" motif probably doesn't make much sense because of the song title, but trust me, it does. And yes, her song title is based on the trope of the same name.
Aimi's song lyrics kinda sound like a sequel to her T1 song though i guess her t2 song can be called that here, but the rest of the lyrics sound more different. And yes, there will be more of their song lyrics in the MV descriptions this time >:)
Kei's song lyrics are actually supposed to be much more sad this time and even the chorus will sound differently in the end.
Reina, please, stop breaking the fourth wall, you're becoming way too powerful.

In what specific moments from Banana Fish & BNHA, that made you sure that Ash and Bakugou are special, that made them your favorite characters?
Agh, my boysssss! You had to dig deep in the asks for that specific lore. But, you must already know a little something to have honed in on these two characters specifically.
Generally, I love both of these characters for the same reason:
Enigmatic. They are introduced as brazen, arrogant and crude only to be exposed for their softness and complexity with time. They're onions (thank you Donkey from Shrek).
Intelligent nerds. Ash is literally prodigal and spends his time in the New York Library, nerd. Bakugo is quick-witted with an incredible battle sense and a grandpa bedtime, nerd.
Sarcasm. The above goes hand-in-hand with their intelligence but they're funny and flippant which makes them both abrasive but also entertaining. I love that they're both little shits.
Trauma. Both characters undergo trauma that is overlooked, to a degree, or minimized because of the nature of their character without allowing consideration for the fact that they may be rough around the edges as a response. The more you learn about their character, origin, motivations, it just endears you to them. Or at least that's what it did for me.
Bravado. In line with all the above, I think their overconfidence or the appearance of such also pushes them into corners where, even when scared or at a loss, they have no choice but push forward because its what people look to them for.
Redemption. Both of them carry burdens without a clear path forward but, ultimately, come around to doing what they think is the right thing for the people they care about. Even while battling their inner demons.
Kins.
⚠️ Spoiler warning for Banana Fish (anime) and MHA through chapter 410.
Tumblr media
This scene, for starters.
Aslan Jade Callenreese
Arthur vs Ash, Final Showdown - At this point in the story, we've seen the things that Ash can and will do to protect his gang and we've come to understand that a 17 year old comes to be a fearsome gang leader by being as strong as he is ruthless, sometimes. But Eiji's introduction into his life creates a feeling of something he needs to protect and keep soft. I think what was compelling about the showdown with Arthur is how he was totally fine until he realized Eiji was there. It made him angry but, more likely, it made him fearful that Eiji would see in him the wretched person he believes himself to be. That fear is human and it shows he's not as stoic as he pushes himself to be.
Shooting at Cape Cod - Taking the story to Cape Cod was a choice. It was a temporary beat from the chaos of what would always follow them, as long as they still kept scratching at the mystery of what banana fish was. But Cape Cod also provided additional texture to Ash's character while beautifully illustrating how soft and carefree he could be before reality brings him back to himself. Showing Eiji to shoot and relaxing into the fun of it before being coldly reminded that he is who he is (not so much by Max but in realizing he was being perceived). Cape Cod is his origin and it is hideous and sad but, in the space of these moments, the trauma of it doesn't tarnish who he is. But it shows how and why he hides so much of himself.
Fear of Halloween - AGAIN, I love how you have this military trained (under Golzine's direction and Blanca's tutelage) who has undergone heinous trauma at the hands of pretty much every adult in his life. He grits his teeth and bares it, he pushes forward tempered by these horrible experiences but remains incredibly soft and vulnerable. His fear of Jack-o-Lanterns is just so unexpected and fodder for Eiji but I think it highlights something wholesome and sad in Ash.
Ash in Glasses. That's it, that's the justification.
Simply, Ash is a survivor and he deserved better than thinking he should crawl back to the library and die, discarded. I think the moments that endear him to me most are those unexpected bouts of vulnerability mixed into the facade he has to hold to simply survive in the life that a perfect storm of circumstances forged. Additionally, I think these moments are not just specific to Ash but typical of the chemical reaction between he and Eiji because it's Eiji who unlocks his vulnerability as the person who never wanted anything from him but for him to come home safe.
Tumblr media
Katsuki Bakugo
Sludge Monster Villain - That desperate and pleading look that he shoots Midoriya is really the first glimpse of what's beneath all his bluster and it's the very moment that sets off Midoriya's hero origin story. It's also the first bit of trauma that just gets... glossed over in the story. See below for Useless Victory.
Sports Festival - The way he faces Uraraka earnestly (which is so grotesquely misconstrued by viewers) because of his general attitude and perception. I really need to wrap up all my Manga With Me chapters because most of the guys in Class 1A continue to overlook and underestimate the girls of Class 1A and 1B but Bakugo, quite earnestly, gives Uraraka the respect and consideration she deserves.
Useless Victory at the Sports Fest - Bakugo is so incredibly principled. He could take the easy win but, in his heart of hearts, if he couldn't beat Todoroki at his full strength, then he can never truly think that he bested Midoriya. He acts out in ways that are not understood by the readers or even the spectators in universe. Ultimately, they muzzle and shackle him echoing in the same way that the Sludge villain. The act shows the League of Villains and anyone else watching the best way to incapacitate him and also further likens him to a villain in the eyes of spectators who continue to vilify him.
The Little Ways He Cares - For the sake of not expounding too much, I thought to consolidate this into one bullet but really, Bakugo is like... so awkward. Like, he might want to connect with others but he has no idea how but I just know he thinks he's really doing something by being an enigmatic wall of fortitude.
1. Having Denki use his quirk to break the tension after the rescue crew got in trouble after saving him from the LOV and making it a point to pay Kirishima back. 2. The way he tries to be civil to Todoroki (because he's an eavesdropping little shit) 3. The way he subtly galvanizes Class 1A's effort for the school festival. 4. "When you guys are in danger, I will save you. When I'm in danger, you guys save me." 5. All of My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising 6. Being in Todoroki's room ahead of the war to face off against Dabi, even if he had no words to offer in consolation. 7. Telling Best Jeanist to look after everyone knowing he was about to sacrifice his life in the face off with Shigaraki
Character Growth Unencumbered by an Unreliable Narrator - As Midoriya begins to shelter his heart in later chapters, we start seeing more insight into Bakugo's true nature. His features soften, we see more of his Midoriya-centered thoughts, we comprehend the depth of his insecurities and how his past behavior was eating him up inside. There's a beautiful conclusion to his story as a hero, Kacchan Bakugo, with his fist held high. Paying homage to the man he looked up to (All Might and Midoriya), victorious in saving his idol and setting his childhood friend up to achieve certain victory. I can't wait to see how his story ends.

Obvious Disguise (Migi & Dali Observation)
Here, I just want to list some definite red flags and warning signs regarding Sali that Migi should have paid attention to before going to Eiji's house in Episode 7.
Facial features: Migi and Dali look alike and have seen each other for 13 years. Sure, Dali has a wig on, but shouldn't Migi be able to recognize his face? Also, blue eyes are quite the rarity where they are, and Sali just happens to have the same eyes as himself, his mother, and his brother. I suppose love is blind...
Height/build: Again, Migi and Dali have almost the exact same height and build. At ~140 cm, they're both quite uniquely petite for their age.
Sali is left-handed: Left-handedness is quite uncommon, and Dali is probably the only left-handed person that Migi knows.
Migi has already crossdressed once: Wouldn't Migi know by now that crossdressing is 100% in the twins' playbook?
Dali quickly changing his tune after Migi saying that he'd do anything for Sali: Doesn't it seem super suspicious and uncharacteristic of Dali to be suddenly approving of Migi straying from the mission and wooing Sali?
"Sali" sounds like "Dali": Was Dali even trying to conceal his own identity?
Sali is always in the library: Didn't Dali mention a perfect place to study?
No one knows who Sali is: Surely a real student named Sali would have some classmates that recognize her. It seems reasonable to at least do a little bit of recon on your crush.
Sali only talks to smart kids: This rather strange criterion happens to line up with Dali's agenda.
Sali's weird criterion for love (i.e. getting 100s on the Japanese and English midterms): Coincidentally, Japanese and English are the subjects that Migi was designated. Apparently, Sali doesn't care about math, science, or history.
Migi doesn't seem to know anything about Sali: At least Eiji had the sense to ask about Sali's past.
Sali's sudden reappearance and relationship with Eiji when the twins are trying to get information out of him: Doesn't this timing seem a bit too odd? Also, doesn't Migi remember that Dali was handling the interrogation?
Dali is never around when "Sali" is: Doesn't Migi ever wonder where his brother is while he is spending quality time with Sali? I suppose not…
Dali's clear attempt to cover up Sali's sudden reappearance: It's kind of sad to see this slip past Migi. It's not like Dali knows how to do Jedi mind tricks.
Sali going on a Sunday date at Eiji's while Migi is at home crying without his brother to comfort him: Again, doesn't Migi wonder where his brother is? Also, if Migi knew that Dali stepped out, doesn't this timing seem super suspicious?
Looking back on it, Dali really didn't need to try that hard to fool poor Migi. I get that being a little goofball is a part of Migi's charm, but it makes me feel bad seeing Dali take advantage of his less intelligent brother who has absolute trust in him. But I suppose the betrayal and separation was necessary to their growth.

Don't Say "I Love You" - By Haruhi Yuzuya (7/10)
Tumblr media
Stalkers on stalkers on stalkers. There are so many stalkers this. A bunch of the background characters are stalkers. I'm not sure if this is satire, but it's cute enough to get a passing grade.
Eiji is a perfect class president with a fan club and a horde of stalkers.
Okamoto is an average but nice guy.
Tumblr media
Poor Okamoto isn't very confrontational, so when his classmate starts proposing to him daily he just...tolerates it.
Tumblr media
Eiji's perverted behavior literally makes no sense. Okamoto has never had a real conversation with the guy. Eiji is also popular with a bunch of friends. None of those friends know why Eiji is after Okamoto.
An explanation is provided pretty early.
Tumblr media
Eiji had a near death experience. He's been in love with Okamoto for a long time. A year or two I think. Okamoto doesn't know him. They aren't secret childhood friends or anything, but Eiji has been observing Okamoto. He started to like Okamoto more and more, but he never confessed. After the accident he throws away his common sense. He vows to live life to to the fullest. He's no longer afraid of being gay etc...
Tumblr media
Eiji is clearly a stalker. It's hinted at first. Then it kind of becomes a joke, but Okamoto is Not Impressed. Eiji's perverted side actually slows their relationship down. Okamoto thinks Eiji is just obsessed, not in love. He would have been happy to receive a sincere confession (it's implied that Okamoto is bisexual) but Eiji's erratic behavior confuses him.
Tumblr media
Okui is Eiji's stalker. He is also the vice president. He's a villain for like a second, but Okamoto doesn't even get mad at him. He agrees with Okui. Eiji is acting weird, and Okamoto totally understands why his friends are worried about him.
After that Okui realizes his bullying want work. Eiji gives him a stern warning and that plotline ends.
Tumblr media
Now, here is the toxic part of the story. Okamoto is actually pretty popular. Three girls tried to confess to him, and Eiji stopped all of them. This is mega creepy. Okamoto wasn't even on speaking terms with Eiji at this point. It's even revealed that Eiji has been obsessively keeping girls away from him for a year.
Tumblr media
They have...an honest conversation about it? Okamoto thinks that the way Eiji behaved is shitty, but he's also a pretty good boyfriend. When he isn't acting like a pervert Okamoto is quite comfortable around him.
Tumblr media
There's alot of of toxic stuff in this. In the beginning I wasn't sure where it was going. Okamoto was totally uninterested. Eiji threw a violent fit when one of Okamoto's close friends used his first name. For a second I thought Okamoto would be very passive, but he is a really nice guy.
Tumblr media
I know how yanderes work, but it's nice when a couple gets along. It's satisfying to watch them chat when there's no drama going on. They are a believable couple. That's the strong point of this story. The actual plot is pretty thin.

Banana Fish 4/2/24
This is a show I've been meaning to watch for a long while, since high school actually, so I'm glad I got the ability to do so. For starters, I had not realized how old the original manga, with its original run going from 1985-1994, which only makes the gang aspects feel more contemporary for that era, especially in areas of New York. This backdrop perfectly sets up the discussion of trauma and resilience that is integrated into Banana Fish with the inciting incident of Griffin Callenreese becoming mentally crippled in Iraq and effectively handicapped, which causes ripple effects for central characters like Ash and Max with how that lingering guilt and grief affects their personalities in the present day. This show handles more dark topics than I was expecting, covering issues of human trafficking, drug addiction, and exploitation all being frequently discussed and shown in horrific detail, a thing that I was not expecting coming into despite hearing it being part of the "gang" subgenre of anime. The anime is set in New York, an interesting change of pace from the often seen Japanese setting accompanying our readings and viewings. While watching this, it immediately made me realize this is how the Japanese must view America from a pop culture lens, as we have Eiji, our Japanese main character being introduced to the Big Apple and being unable to find his bearing or sense of belonging amongst the culturally diverse and distinct gangs, a sentiment that likely would have been shared by the Japanese population when trying to understand the ongoings of American culture. This becomes even more interesting with how this series serves as a vessel for the social commentary of homosexuality in anime, with it being never explicitly stated but CLEARLY implied that Eiji and Ash have a thing that goes a little beyond friendship, an aspect that I have never truly seen in an anime until this one. This commentary extends beyond this LGBTQ+ aspect but how sexual abuse and struggles placed upon marginalized communities in this world are continually perpetuated by the corrupt systems that make up it, most obviously being represented by the Mafia Don Papa Dino. Banana Fish handles these topics with remarkable class at times but through watching it, they tend to make distasteful jokes, especially with knowing Ash's background it leaves an even worse taste in my mouth. However these are nitpicks and it doesn't stop me from enjoying this emotionally charged, revenge-filled gang anime that I can't wait to finish by the end of this week.
Tumblr media
This episode I found particularly compelling with Ash and Eiji's relationship which I felt was desperately needed more fleshing out for me to truly connect and care about the attachment, (especially after a recent big character death).
Tumblr media
Max Lobo is probably my favorite character in the show and their sibling dynamic (especially in the wake of Griffin's death) makes them have a banter that I greatly enjoy and contributes to the aftereffects of trauma and the respective aftereffects that each of them deal with.

jirou x otoya
chase x gou
ankh x eiji
for ship asks?
This took me a little longer to get to, sorry!!
-Jiro and Otoya
Does it made sense? Yeah, like, more than I expected, watching Kiva. As I said when I was watching it, Jiro wants to speedrun Fuck Marry Kill with Otoya. If Jiro could fuck Otoya to death, dismember and spatter him across the walls, and then Otoya'd just pop back like a toon for Jiro to curl up around and wuffle tenderly against his neck? And they could do it all again tomorrow? Like, that would be the perfect world for Jiro. And Otoya, for his part, is so… like ok he's written with all the fun 2008 homophobia that Mister Inoue could muster but I truly feel like Otoya would/has fucked men, and he'd just say it didn't count, or like, that he's not gay because he's… receiving, or because he's topping, or because any number of reasons that would all be really dumb and contradictory. Otoya makes an excellent dog toy, I don't know, and he's a brat, and like they would be so mad at each other the whole time but like… yeah?? Otoya would love to tease Jiro until he got punished?? And then get one over on him and then they can do it all again?? Does it compel me? Yeah. I've read an AWFUL LOT OF IT, but I cannot see myself writing it.
-Chase and Gou
So, like, within the framework we have: Gou is canon bi. Gou wants to take Chase on dates. Gou has incredibly deep, complicated feelings about Chase. Gou and Chase have been like… spiritually… merged? And that (among other things) made Gou want to live for the first time in a long time. I have complicated feelings about GouChase, in the same way I have complicated feelings about Drive in general. Gou is tortured, like truly tortured, and makes horrible decisions all the time because of it. In a sense, he and Krim are on the same mission, kill all of the monsters that they made as a way of atoning for creating them. Gou obviously didn't create them himself, but he's so obsessed with his absent, abusive father that he connects himself to that guilt. (His obsession also leads him to trusting Banno, he wants approval SO BAD, it doesn't matter if his dad is a monster, the boy wants to be loved by his dad.) And I find this incredibly compelling, as a story and a character. Gou is neglected! He's abused! He's passively suicidal! He's making bad choices because NO ONE IS HELPING HIM! And it's consistent! It's good characterization! The dude is fucked up and not coming down off his hill because if he admits he was wrong Enter Chase, the one guy who is helping him. The guy who stands there and listens and prevents Gou from burning it all down and takes all of the rage Gou throws at him because he wants to be here. He wants Gou to be stable. He wants Gou to be Ok. He loves and protects him as a human being, even if Gou doesn't care about himself. I see the romance, in that. I see the appeal of 'it's rotten work, but not to me', here. And I could see my way to the idea that Gou has Uncomfortable Sexual Tension with the guy he hates, leading to romantic feelings for Chase due to his intense guilt post series. I've read some GouChase, and I've enjoyed it, but like… once they get together all the interesting parts are kinda… over for me? Their relationship is too interesting as an angst-ridden emotional exploration of a deeply traumatized individual to flatten it out into 'they live happily ever after'. AND FURTHERMORE… I just don't think Chase sees him that way. He wants to be with him? But I don't know that it's… really about that. Again, that feels like flattening out the nuances of their dynamic. And further furthermore, I actually think Chase is ace. I think all of the Roidmudes are on the ace spectrum, actually. So to sum up, I get the math it took to get here, but for me it Doesn't Make Sense, and it Does Not Compel Me. I… hope that makes sense. I apparently have a lot to say about them.
-Ankh and Eiji
I went into this in another ship meme once upon a time, so I'll be brief but basically… I get it, but it's not for me. I just don't see them as having the time or the emotional intelligence to actually be vulnerable enough to explore any kind of romantic/sexual attraction they may have had for each other. For me, that's compelling enough! Two people who care about each other in spite of their situation but never had the time to get into it? The intense tragedy of that? Of not having enough time, of always thinking you had tomorrow until all your tomorrows were gone?? That's delicious. I like that more than the idea that they were smoochin' between the scenes. So… Makes Sense, in that I see why it's so popular. Doesn't Compel Me, in that I genuinely just don't ship it.

“He’s…. Interesting.”
“Interesting! Aw, Tori, he's more than that!”
“Hardly. He has his talents, yes, but it puts me off in regards to his gambling..”
“Well, people can have their hobbies~ Aren't you gonna see him next week?”
“.... I have nothing to say on that.”

Non-verbal Thoughts
╚══ஓ๑†๑ஓ══╝
「 General Thoughts 」
˚₊· ͟͟͞➳❥ Victoria doesn't know what to think of him. Zen thinks Flynn is ‘swell’!
➜ Victoria and Flynn are both hard to read, especially the former, what with her constantly blank cold-hearted stare. Any interaction they have is bound to become a game of who can read the other better.
➜ Zen…. Doesn't think Flynn is all that special. In some ways, yes, Flynn has his charms! But Zen doesn't think much of him.
➜ Flirting is something Flynn indulges in when it comes to Victoria. And at every moment, she rejects his advances. It makes for great entertainment on Zen's end, though!
➜ The only reason Zen seems to think he's more than tolerable is because Flynn's a theater kid, and theater kids make for great entertainment /j
➜ Victoria can at least tolerate Flynn's sense of fashion. She can respect a man/woman who can dress decently enough.
↳ Coordinating outfits becomes a thing for them once they get closer. Zen teases her about it.
➜ Zen tends to sit back and watch as Flynn steals the show. Can't really blame him, you need to get some form of amusement somewhere.
➜ Victoria has a distaste for Flynn's like of gambling. Maybe it has to do with the fact her aunt is a gambler, but it does bring a sour taste in her mouth.
➜ Flynn likes calling Victoria ‘Alexandrite’. As long as it gets him to mind his business, Vic doesn't try to stop him from using that nickname.
↳ Zen thinks that nickname is adorably fitting for his best friend!
➜ Zen wants to know how Flynn would react if Victoria stomped on him with her high heels /j /j
➜ One thing about Flynn that Victoria and Zen can agree on is that he's… Interesting. And they wish to know more.
↳ Never a good thing. When Victoria's ambition is high on something, it'll take an act of God to stop her from satisfying that ambition.
༝ㅤ・ㅤ˚ㅤ。ㅤ.ㅤ⋆ㅤ「❃」
「 Interactions 」
❐ …. Honestly, no idea how these three even met 💀
➜ Zen had to fight the urge to snort when he heard Flynn was called ‘the ten-faced devil’. He isn't one to question it, though!
➜ Victoria definitely started overanalyzing everything about Flynn, when they first interacted. She sees everyone around her as a potential threat/ally/tool, and Flynn was no different from everyone else.
➜ It basically became a game of…. An incredibly high-quality game of chess between Victoria and Flynn, every time they crossed paths. Always trying to read each other, trying to see what was behind the other's mask.
➜ She isn't going to admit it, but Vic thinks Flynn's dependency on good luck charms is a bit endearing. No one knows this, but she's probably sent him a charm she made for him.
➜ As mentioned before, Flynn's flirting with Victoria tends to be a common occurrence. Unfortunately for Flynn, any chances of her reciprocating his advances are less than 0.
➜ Zen wants to know more about Flynn's unique magic! But he isn't gonna bother asking Flynn to elaborate on it, of course not! That would just be boring!
➜ Victoria's probably seen him fly around NRC to carefully watch her and the other students. She's also probably called him creepy for it.
➜ Zen never tries to get on Flynn's good side. In fact, he wants to see how far he can go until he's on his bad side!!
↳ Zen, honey, I love you…. But no 💀
➜ Victoria is rarely impressed with Flynn. The few times she is are moments Flynn secretly treasures.

I'm curious about Cell of Empireo.
What do you like about it and is there a way to play it in English myself?
there isn't an official English translation, but we've been given permission for a translation on YouTube here! (start from chapter 1). It goes through all 6 endings of the base game, plus bonus content and game overs, and the first 5 parts of the DLC so far! It is what i recommend for experiencing COE as it has an actual person behind the translation ^_^
There is a way to play with machine translation, but the tutorial is kinda long so i'll put it under the cut <3 machine translation is kinda scuffed though (it struggles with pronouns especially, and doesn't translate the inventory or anything outside of a text box due to the text extraction method ussed)
THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THIS GAME: A LOT.
the character writing is REALLY good-- everyone has their own motivations and histories, and the foreshadowing is ACTUALLY insane. like i am not joking when there is a ton of foreshadowing in the FIRST CHAPTER.
the game has eiji shinano in it <3 my silly little guy <3
99% of the characters are adults! they have jobs and actual canonical birthdays and everything! our protagonist is a 28 year old detective (Haruki Atou), and he's clever and smart and it's so nice!! Atou is such a great protagonist, i love him a lot <3 he's very much his own character with his own identity!
are you a fan of mad scientists? are you a fan of FLIRTY mad scientists? play this game for Kanou Aogu <3
the worldbuilding is REALLY REALLY REALLY SOLID. like-- the magic has RULES to it and it makes SENSE and it makes it really fun to put the pieces together!!! you could deadass put together an ACTUAL TIMELINE of IN GAME EVENTS going back from when the game takes place (2015) to like. 1972 and EARLIER.
the sprites move!! during conversations and cutscenes they move and look at each other and strike silly poses or WINK (kanou <3) and it's great, there's also foreshadowing there too!
the butterfly effect for the different endings is ACTUALLY SO COOL! It's really fascinating to watch how certain choices change so so much, even ones that you wouldn't expect!
this game has a lot of references and influences from Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy!
there is a headless rat. it's looking this way...
there are so many old man babygirls in this game <3
seodore. thats it thats the reason
gay as hell to [redacted for spoiler reasons]
OUGGHGHGHGHG the amount of times this game emotionally devastated me <3
i am on my second watchthrough and i am still finding details and clues i didn't notice the first time,, things hit DIFFERENT when i know the context holy shit. I'm taking my sister and a few friends through the eng tl videos and voice acting stuff, and the amount of times i had to go very very quiet in order to not react to things they dont know are relevant yet,,, was a LOT. it hits DIFFERENT i am a simp for foreshadowing and cool details
this game is. actually kind of hard? like i'm playing it with the machine translation at the moment and holy shit no wonder the translator is constantly running around at like 4 hp.
PLAYING WITH MACHINE TRANSLATION/ PLAYING COE IN JAPANESE. Personally i recommend going through the videos bc machine translation is scuffed and it is VERY VERY HARD to get the best ending, but i will put the tutorial here regardless! this tutorial comes from the Cell of Empireo ENG fans discord server <3 Note that it does not translate text outside of text boxes (so CGs, flashes, the intro cutscene will not translate), and will not translate the inventory or maps (which is why i recommend the videos first)
Step 1. If your computer can't display Japanese characters, use one of the links below. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/308823/japanese-characters.htmlhttps://www.digitalcitizen.life/changing-display-language-used-non-unicode-programs/
Step 2. Download Locale Emulator using the link below. https://xupefei.github.io/Locale-Emulator/
Step 3. Download Cell of Empireo and RPG Maker 2003.
Cell of Empireo download: https://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/17735
RPG Maker 2003 download: https://tkool.jp/products/rtp.html
Step 4. Download and set up Textractor. Setting up Textractor: https://youtu.be/SLGSHZdEurM Using Textractor with DeepL: https://desonovel.blogspot.com/2021/01/tutorial-using-textractor-with-deepl.html
note: the firefox extension/devtools that pasted the text into deepl are currently broken. You can still paste the text in yourself, or if you have access to the deepl API, that works as well!
Step 5. Run 細胞神曲-CoE-.exe using Locale Emulator and run Textractor.exe. Attach Textractor to the RPG_RT.EXE process and you can play.
