TWST sibling dynamic absolutely fuck me up and here’s why

so like, I’m already a little ass bitch when it comes to family dynamics and whatnot, but TWST really scratches and itch that isn’t really scratched a lot. Mainly the sibling angst.

Idia and Ortho obviously being the siblings of all time is cutesy and shit until you realize how fucked up the nature of their relationship is. Like Idia had to create a literal simulacra to cope with the loss of Ortho yet has such an awful habit of pushing him away. This could be due to Idia’s constant self-deprecation and him “not being worthy of love” but also because yk- being comforted by the object that looks like your brother could very well be taken in cold and cruel comfort.

But the dynamic that’s really been fucking me up recently? Malleus and Silver. ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN. Imo Malleus captures a side of older siblings that aren’t seen a lot. That being, utter isolation. They’re pseudo sibling dynamic works so perfectly in the fact that Malleus loves Silver but in his loneliness, he forgets himself.

That excitement upon having a younger sibling? That love? That visceral, bright, and starry-eyed love you first get? And then Malleus’ encompassing loneliness and desperation? He tears everything they’ve built down to the ground in a fruitless and desperate search for that love. In turn he pushes Silver away, the only person who has the actual balls to tear him away from this fantasy. Malleus is so desperate for love that he forgets who taught him what it was.

Edit: Not to mention the pain on Silver’s side being a representation of Sibling Pain™️ not seen too often. The idea and sight of watching this person that you’ve grown up with, admired, and LOVED, be in such a state of anguish and act nothing like the person you knew? Ow. Even worse when he finds he’s been completely blinded to the reality of this.

You know, I just started the diasomnia chapter (although I've seen a ton of spoilers at this point lol) and something just stood out to me.

Despite being fae like Malleus, one even older than him, Lilia is good at keeping track of time. Usually.

(Potential spoilers under the cut!)

I loved the little detail of him playing games all night long and being late for class. For some reason, I feel it may have been sort of a foreshadowing about his relationship with the rest of Diasomnia. Like, he's had so much fun raising and training his boys that he forgot that his time is limited, his magic is limited. And now that it's time for him to leave, he is scrambling to make sure his boys will be able to go ahead without him (not realizing that his kids love him and would fight to keep him with them)

Also, I've always been puzzled how Lilia is so good at keeping track of time when Malleus often struggles to. Now though, I feel like it's because of the time he spent searching for methods to help Malleus hatch. Like, those years he spent searching for any way he could help the last surviving memory of his friends live on had a massive impact on the way he viewed time. He learned to keep track of the passage of time because every second counted.

I feel like the fact that he couldn't get to Meleanor fast enough also contributed to this sort of hyper awareness of how time goes by so quickly. It may also have become another aspect that softened him up to the idea of humans and fae co-existing.

Because humans are just as ethereal and fragile as Malleus once was. And they are just as stubborn and resilient as Malleus is.

as people know, in the diasomnia trailer— there's a scene in which malleus is trapped in thorns. that thorn looks like a crown. Lilia is Silver's dad reveal (to Yuu and Grim)

The Knights mistake Silver for someone else ??? (👁👁)

Malleus' parents are called Levan and Malenoa

Prince Levan left some time ago and hasn't come back, so Lilia is in charge of protecting Malenoa and her egg (Malleus)

It should only take 2-3 years for a dragon egg to hatch...

If Lilia 300 years old during the war and the current one is 700, plus Malleus being only 178...does that mean that Malleus was inside the egg for over 200 years? 😭

Sebek is sad about Malleus growing up without his parents

Sebek starts to believe that if this reality allows Malleus parents to live and keep Silver and Lilia together, it's better to just stay there. He's almost taken by the darkness but Silver's necklace shines and saves him.

Silver talks him down and Sebek remembers that his true dream is to be a perfect vassal for Malleus

Sebek apologizes to Yuu and Grim for causing trouble and he finally uses our names

[from Lilia's new SSR] Maleficia raised Lilia because he was an orphan

Lilia was childhood friends with Malleus' parents

Lilia wasn't looking forward to babysitting Malleus. He didn't really like kids, and wasn't planning on having his own ever 😭😭😭
