As a Conan Gray fan first, and a Batfam fan second, I swear to god, If I see another Tiktok about the song Bourgeoisieses, and Mr. Tim "I live in the same neighborhood as Bruce Wayne" Drake is featured, Or Bruce "LITERAL BILLIONARE" Wayne, I'm going to lose my shit.
Conan grew up poor, and now he has celebrity status. The song is making fun of the rich and how disconnected with normal people. (It's Affluenza's Wine Aunt) Tim is The Bourgeoisie.
The only people allowed to be edited to that song is Duke, Steph, Cass, Jason, and maybe Dick.

AFFLUENZA - matt sturniolo (PART 1)
summary: she throws a party and makes an effort not to invite him.
warnings: none yet!
highschool au, popular!matt x rich!oc
“there’s food in the fridge for when you get hungry.” maeve’s dad pointed to the kitchen with his left hand, car keys dangling between his fingers, held tightly in his palm. her mom stood nearby, a faint smile on her face with her hands clasped together over her chest.
"oh, honey, i'll miss you!" she stepped towards her daughter, embracing her in a warm hug and pressing a light kiss on her cheek before being reluctantly pulled away by her husband.
“she’ll be fine, florence, it’s only two weeks.” he grumbled, his voice tinged with annoyance as he ushered his wife to the front door, grabbing his suitcase with the hand that wasn't being used to practically push the women out. maeve could hear a muffled argument rising as the door slammed shut behind them, leaving her alone in the dead silence of her mansion. she sighed and ascended the grand staircase slowly, feeling a pang of loneliness in her chest.
she flung herself onto her queen-sized bed, frustration bubbling beneath the surface as she rubbed her hands over her face with a grunt. this was the third time her parents had gone on an over-a-week-long business trip this year, and it was only february!
she tried to understand that is was "for the family", according to her father, but she was unable to shake the feelings of abandonment he left behind. weren't they supposed to be there for her during her teenage years? to be her support when she got hurt, or when everything felt like it was falling apart?
her consciousness nudged her to seek some form of solace, some company while she was slowly rotting away. she pulled out her phone from her jeans pocket, catching a glance of her dishevelled appearance in its reflection.
her long, dark hair sprawled messily around her head, which rested on her bed, her eyes red and raw with the threat of tears. her usually pale cheeks flushed with the heartbreak of her own parents' absence.
unable to bear the sight any longer, she tapped on the messages app, pulled up her best friend's contact, and began typing rapidly.
maeve
chloeee
they’re gone
chlo <3
ugh how long this time
maeve
2 weeks.
you should come over
chlo <3
omw and i’m bringing snacks
twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang, its echoing chime reverberating through the mansion. maeve dragged herself out of bed and trudged to the front door, catching a glimpse of chloe's silky blonde hair billowing gracefully in the wind through the window.
as the door swung open, maeve was met with chloe's bright white smile and glowing blue eyes. she glanced down to see chloe gripping onto a shopping bag in each hand, both filled to the brim.
"i hope i didn't bring too much!" chloe giggled after noticing her stare, her high-pitch laughter grating on maeve's nerves.
their whole friendship was fake. a charade they both played without acknowledging its shallowness. chloe was only friends with maeve because she was rich, maeve was only friends with chloe because she was popular.
"no, it's fine. come on." maeve muttered, leading the way back up the grand staircase without waiting to see if chloe would follow.
once inside maeve's enormous bedroom, chloe darted past her and leaped into the centre of the bed, immedietly making herself at home and disorganising the neatly made sheets. she tossed the shopping bags beside her and wasted no time tearing into the packages, scattering food directly onto the clean bedding maeve had painstakingly arranged the night before.
around two hours later, the girls lay side by side on maeve's queen-sized be, with a noticeable gap of at least two feet between them.
"you know what you should do?" chloe spoke up, breaking the comfortable silence and forcing maeve to fight to roll her eyes. she tilted her head slightly to the side, her gaze shifting away from her phone as she observed the side of maeve’s face.
"hm?" maeve hummed back, not bothering to even spare her a glance, holding a half-eaten twizzler to her lips and completely engrossed in her instagram feed.
"you should throw a party," chloe grinned, sitting up and crossing her legs. she grabbed one of maeve's pink plush pillows and placed it on her lap as she finally seemed to want to engage in a conversation when it suited her.
maeve finally looked away from her phone and sighed. “what?”
"you heard me!" chloe's grin widened. "your parents are gone all the time, and you've never even had more than three people over at once! you have this massive house and do nothing with it, what's the point?"
maeve levelled a firm gaze at her before simply replying, “i don’t want to throw a party.”
chloe let out an exasperated sigh as maeve turned her attention back to her phone, “oh, come on! you’re always so uptight and boring, you never wanna do anything fun!”
she locked eyes with chloe, her gaze meeting the pleading blue depths of chloe’s. despite sensing the desperation behind her stare, maeve remained steadfast in her decision. with a slight roll of her eyes, she reiterated her stance. “no, chloe. i don’t want to.”
“fine.”

jojo siwa claiming she's revitalizing gay pop and releasing 'karma' on the same night as conan gray's 'found heaven' and chappell roan's 'good luck babe' is so poetically ironic. it's like the universe WANTS to draw a comparison between jojo and queer pop artists.
the thing that makes queer pop compelling as a genre is the unique storytelling and experiences of queer artists told through their music. that doesn't necessarily mean every song by a queer artist has to be about their queerness. they don't have to scream "hey i'm gay!" in every single song they write. but claiming to be "reinventing gay pop" should mean you're telling interesting stories about your queer experience, right???
'found heaven' by conan gray is about growing up as a queer kid with religious guilt and disapproving parents. he equates being in love in an authentic way to "finding heaven", and the piece as a whole resonates with a TON of queer people in different stages of their lives. some people can look back at their childhoods and how much they've grown since then, some can relate because they're currently going through what conan's written about, and some people can sympathize with the way some queer people are treated, even if they aren't necessarily queer themselves.
'good luck babe' is a song about queerness and compulsory heterosexuality. chappell sings about a woman she was in a relationship with who decided to settle down in a conventional marriage despite being queer. the song reflects the denial a lot of queer people go through (specifically regarding the lesbian experience) and the unfortunate way a lot of them end up repressing who they are to conform to societal standards. it's fun, it's campy, but its message is still poignant.
as for karma… there's nothing inherently queer about that song. the music video for the original version, ‘karma’s a bitch’ by brit smith, featured a heterosexual storyline. jojo buying the rights to a song she didn't write isn't inherently a bad thing, a lot of mainstream artists do that all the time. however, if you're claiming to be a pioneer of the “gay pop” genre and your music doesn't reflect any queer themes or experiences, is it really “gay pop”? again, queer artists don't have to write exclusively about their queerness, but if you try to present yourself as a voice for the queer community without telling any of their stories, you're not going to be lauded as some revolutionary figure. if any of the songs on jojo’s album are actually about her experience as a lesbian or contain any queer themes, then i think she'd qualify as a “gay pop” artist. but so far, she's given us a faux edgy, generic pop song and tried to market it as some insane never-been-done-before feat. and honestly, if her entire album is like this and she continues to market herself this way, it's a slap in the face to all the genuine artists and storytellers in the queer community.
but let's stop talking about jojo siwa and start talking about the incredible queer artists who are truly breathing life into the "gay pop" genre: chappell roan, renee rapp, ben platt, conan gray, girl in red, kevin atwater, baby queen, mitski, clairo, dodie, and SO MANY MORE (feel free to add on some of your favourites because there are so many wonderful artists out there <3)
also: if you have a different perspective on this situation i would absolutely love to hear what you think and if you agree / disagree with this! i love discussing topics like this so feel free to reblog with your own take
