A guide to Protection part 2
The moon is waning so what better time to do protection spells than now? (you can do protection magick whenever, I just like a little boost from the moon phase)
In my previous post I covered some warding methods and now I’m gonna go over some spell recipes
Tumblr media
Protection oil
honestly, chef’s kiss, iconic, it’s probably my most used oil. You may apply some on your skin, anoint candles, talismans, charms, etc.
what you’re gonna need:
a carrier oil of your choice. Here are some of my favorites :
castor oil is great for absorbing negativity
coconut oil has protective properties
olive oil is an all purpose oil
sunflower oil
almond oil
essential oils:
some great essentials oils are lemon, peppermint, sage, frankincense, orange, cinnamon, benzoin and cedarwood
herbs:
cloves, basil, rosemary, garden sage, angelica, mint, bay leaves
Use whatever you have on hand, it doesn’t need to be expensive. Some of these ingredients are probably in your kitchen already.
I dropped in a small piece of tourmaline for some extra spice
After it was done I used a black yarn to tie a bay leaf around the jar
Black salt
Black salt is a must have in a witch’s apothecary and it’s fairly easy to make.
You’re gonna need a mortar and pestle to grind up the ingredients;
any kind of salt,
ashes from previous works or incense,
activated charcoal (it’s not necessary so don’t stress if you don’t have it around)
frankincense resin (again, not necessary)
crushed eggshells
While grinding the ingredients listed above make sure to focus on the intention of being protected, meditate on it if you can
You may sprinkle some black salt in the corners of your house, at your doorstep, anywhere really (don’t add salt to plant soil though)
Rosemary water
Rosemary can be used to cleanse your aura and promotes protection
Add rosemary leaves to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for about 20 minutes
Pour the infusion into a spray bottle and you’re done!
Given the fact that rosemary water is great for the scalp and stimulates hair growth I’d recommend this method of cleansing and protecting to people who are in the broom closet.
Eggshell spell
I don’t neccesarily enjoy making spell jars and I find using an eggshell instead of a jar really convenient (and cheap lol)
Cleanse the egg and add salt/ black salt and some protective herbs, one at a time, thinking about what each thing represents and how it relates to your intention. Seal it with wax and you’re done!

Wand-quality redwood is in short supply, yet constant demand, due to its reputation for bringing good fortune to its owner. As is usually the case with wandlore, the general populace have the truth back to front: redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe. The combination of such a witch or wizard with a redwood wand is always intriguing, and I generally expect to hear of exciting exploits when I send this special pairing out from my workshop.

Three-Leafed Chaos
Chapter 3/4
Warning: beach shenanigans
"Yami!!! I have bad news!!! Oh- Are you doing something super manly out here?" Magna ran around the corner to see his captain at a blacksmithing iron, pounding metal with a hammer. "Whoa! You are!" He ran up to him. "What are you making!"
"A gift," he said, holding up the short weapon. "It's a traditional Tanto knife from my homeland." He admired how the light was already glinting on the metal. "It's a Tree-Leaf day present."
"Ooh! How awesome!" Magna balled up his fists excitedly. "Who are you giving it to? That girl who got drunk last week?"
"She wasn't just some girl, ya idiot. First of all, she's a Royal official. Second of all..." Yami didn't really know what to say. She's not like other girls? No... that didn't sound right. He hadn't spent enough time with her to know exactly what it was he was feeling. But soon, he would. "Anyway, what's this bad news you mentioned?"
"Oh! Right! It's actually about that girl," Magna began. "I was in town with Luck, and we overheard a conversation with that Lion captain! He was told that the Wizard King and his staff were taking the day off at the beach, so he headed off that way immediately! He's going to go try to steal your girl, Yami!"
Now, that caught his attention. "Shit! That's not good..." The beach was the perfect place to get to know someone better outside of work, and he wasn't going to let Fuegoleon have her all to himself! "Take care of things around here, right?" Yami ordered Magna before turning and running off to find a broom and fly to the beach.
This could actually end very well for me... He thought as he flew. Water, sun, sand... and she'll be frolicking around in a skimpy bathing suit for sure. Yeah, this could actually be really good...
As soon as he got to the beach, Yami realized there was a problem. "...fancy seeing you guys here."
Fuegoleon, Nozel, Jack, and Charlotte were all here already, standing around at the edge of a roped off area of beach. A big sign was posted that said "Authorized renters only." Jack sneered at the sight of Yami. "Ka ka, you decided to come for a dip as well?"
"Obviously, he's here for the same reason as all of us," Nozel corrected, scowling at Yami. "Seriously. As if this wasn't going to be hard enough already."
Charlotte clenched her fists but said nothing. Another competitor... I was looking forward to getting her all to myself.
"I told you, you can't come in," the guard argued with Fuegoleon. "This stretch of the beach has been rented for the day. Maybe you're all captains, but I was told not to let unauthorized guests-"
"Hey! Look who it is!"
They all instantly recognized that angelic voice. Yami braced himself, turning to look onto the beach. There she was, running towards them with a smile on her face and one hand extended in a wave. She was wearing a blue one-piece bathing suit. Despite being decidedly modest... it was almost sexier to leave a lot to the imagination.
"Sir, please let these people in!" she told the guard when she reached them, a little out of breath. "I'm sure the Wizard King won't mind."
The guard couldn't be bothered to argue with her and finally stepped aside, letting the five of them in. "It's great to see you guys again! We've been having a really relaxing time so far, we all needed a break from work," she told them.
Yami gulped, trying to think of what to say. I need to make a compliment... before the others do!
But it was too late. Fuegoleon, being the gentleman he was, swooped in and grabbed her hand. "It's great to see you as well... you look stunning in that suit, I must say." To punctuate the compliment, he leaned down and planted a wet kiss on the back of her hand.
She was obviously shocked at the gesture, but became even more shocked when Nozel grabbed her other hand. "The same goes for me... thank you for allowing us to join you, It's an honor." The words sounded much less natural coming from him, but he still leaned down and kissed the hand he held as well. Yami and Jack rolled their eyes. Royalty was really weird sometimes.
"Oh... thank you both!" she finally replied, blushing a little. "Now... would you like something to drink? Also, you should probably change!"
"Change? Into what?"
A few minutes later, the five captains were standing around awkwardly. Charlotte couldn't remember the last time she wore a bathing suit, but now she was... luckily she found a little slip to wear over it, she couldn't stand the thought of having her crush's eyes all over her. And Yami's too...
"Ooh Charlotte! Your skin is so soft and pretty!" Charlotte tensed up as the other girl rubbed her shoulder enthusiastically. "SO pale, too... can I rub lotion on you!? Please!"
"I-I-I-I suppose so-"
It was too late, she had already moved on. "And Fuegoleon!!! You're so well-built! I thought that all Royals were lazy like the King, but both you and Nozel obviously work out!"
Fuegoleon opened and closed his mouth a couple times, aghast. Nozel pursed his lips together, fighting tooth and nail against an oncoming blush. "Er... thank you?"
"And Captain Jack! You're so tall and lean! Are you really flexible?!"
Jack smirked to himself. "You got it, babe." Yami had never heard the man say anything like that. Jack contorted his arms weirdly. It was kind of gross, but his audience was enamored. "Wow! I've never seen someone's arm do that... and..."
She finally turned and looked at Yami, but froze. Yami tried not to smirk; he knew, in the body department, he had everyone here beat. Hook, line, and sinker... he thought to himself as her eyes wandered over his muscles. "...wow... I've never seen someone with so many muscles!" she finally said, clapping her hands a little. "Can I... touch one?"
There we go! Yami thought victoriously, drinking up the angry expressions from the others. "Sure... go right on ahead." He flexed his bicep, earning a gasp of astonishment. However, just as she was about to touch it, a voice interrupted them.
"What the Hell is going on here?!"
Uh oh. They all turned to see none other than Marx, one of the other advisors, marching up to the group with a sour look on his face. "You five! Don't you have work to do?" he demanded, crossing his arms. It was hard to take him seriously while he was wearing swim trunks, but his voice was still severe. "This is a private event you know!"
"Oh, Marx, it's probably fine!" Marx turned to look at his colleague speak. "After all, I'm sure Lord Julius would be fine with it."
Marx shrugged, looking up and down the beach. "By the way, where did that man go..?"
"Hey! Look what I found!"
The voice came from the water, and everyone instantly recognized it. Yami turned to see none other than Julius running out of the water towards them. He was holding something in his hand, but more importantly...
"JULIUS! WHat on earth are you wearing!?" Marx demanded, his voice higher than normal.
The same question was on everyone's minds. Fuegoleon, Jack, and Nozel couldn't look away, while Charlotte looked pointedly at the ground.
"Oh, this ol' thing?" Julius gestured down at the garment. It was basically underwear, leaving nothing to the imagination. "It's a Speedo, apparently they're all the rage these days! Competitive swimmers wear them to reduce drag, and it really helps me move around!" To prove his point (to everyone's horror), he started to do some stretches and lunges, showing off the hideous shorts tan on his thighs. "What do you think?"
Yami let out a loud laugh, thinking it was hilarious. "You really have no shame!"
"I'll say," Marx grumbled. "We're lucky this area is private... what would the public say if they saw their Wizard King running around practically nude?"
"But, what's that creature?" Julius looked over at the girl, who had managed to drag her gaze off of his toned legs and onto the thing in his hand.
He held out his prize with a grin on his face. "I dove underwater and caught it! It's a crab! It keeps pinching me though- YEOUCH!" The crab's claw snapped down on his finger. Julius swore and placed it on the girl's head while he shook off the pain. She simply laughed and pointed at the crab. "Look at that! It's like a crown!"
... what a weird situation.
Still, the objective of the day remained: spend time with this girl and make her fall in love! With the five of them, it wouldn't be easy, especially since Julius kept butting in. His increased maneuverability allowed him to spend ample time bothering everyone, but they did manage to get a few moments alone with the object of their affection. Nozel created a knife out of mercury and cut open a coconut so she could try some of the juice. Fuegoleon created a sand sculpture of her wearing a bikini (which Julius accidentally ended up trampling while he ran around). Jack threw a frisbee around with her for a while, making sure to pause and teach her some of his techniques. Charlotte let her rub lotion on her, and the two collected sea shells while they chatted.
"So... How do you like it? Working in the Castle at Magic Knights HQ?" Charlotte asked.
"Oh! It's more amazing that I ever would have thought." she responded, pausing to pick up a little shell. "I've met so many cool people... and for the first time in my life, I actually feel like I'm doing something important... I've seen for myself how cruel this world can be, but..." She smiled and clasped her hands together, her eyes shining with pride. "I keep getting little reminders that there's still good... even in places you wouldn't expect."
...wow. She's so earnest about all this, it's refreshing. Charlotte was used to nobles talking about their "duty" and their "importance" and whatnot, while they just did what they always did and preyed on those weaker than them. Yet, there was this girl, just a former peasant, who's words dripped with honesty. I like people like this... people who don't try to hide their true selves. The one to win her heart will be me!
"That sounds nice... I'm truly happy that you ended up in such a position. It seems like the perfect place for you," Charlotte responded with a genuine smile. "You got to meet all of the Captains, right? Not just the five of us here... Did you have any favorites?"
"Favorites?" she laughed nervously. "Well, I would like to say you, Charlotte, but I don't want to seem biased, you know!"
A soft blush appeared on Charlotte's cheeks, but her crush kept talking before she could respond. "They were all interesting in their own ways! Captain Unsworth was so sweet and cheery. We were like Kindred spirits!"
Kindred spirits!? That's exactly what Dorothy said! AAAA, maybe they are on the same wavelength!
"And Captain Poizot was so tall and noble! Oh, and Fuegoleon and Nozel! It's hard to guess that they're related, they're so different! But I liked both of them."
Eek! She even liked Gueldre?!? I can't lose her to a man, I just can't!
"And Captain Yami... he was a bit strange, but he's so muscular! I've never seen anyone with a body like that!"
Charlotte was nearly at her limit by now. So, she quickly changed the subject. I need answers... today's my only chance! "Say, I heard that Three-Leaf day is in a week," Charlotte mentioned nonchalantly. "The Kingdom is in a frenzy over it... do you think you'll give anyone a gift? Or, do you think you'll get something from someone?"
Yes!!! This way I can find out if she likes anyone!
"Hmm..." she tapped her chin thoughtfully. ...cute. "Well, I suppose I'll get some gifts for my coworkers. They're all so nice to me even though I was a servant before. Marx deserves something nice, he works so hard! As for me..." she let out a sigh and let her gaze wander. "...I doubt I will receive anything from the person I like."
...."the person I like."
!!!
So she does like someone!! It took everything in Charlotte's power to keep from shaking the poor girl down. Calm down! She probably doesn't mean me after all... but I still want to keep trying! "Oh, I suppose I will get a gift for Lord Julius. He's been so kind to me, after all. I think I'll ask for faith in return... there's nothing better to have than the Wizard King's faith, after all!"
Charlotte wasn't even listening at this point. She opened her mouth, not sure what she was about to say, but was cut off by a scream from the water.
"Help!!! I'm drowning!!"
Their heads snapped to look at the noise. It was one of Julius's staff members, a short man, who was flailing around gulping down water many meters off shore. Charlotte gasped. "Oh no! Is there a lifeguard?"
"We don't need a lifeguard!" Charlotte looked down just in time to see the girl go sprinting off down towards the surf, raising her hands. Instantly, with just a flick of her fingers, a slice of water disappeared from the ocean, a path leading to the drowning man. With an oof, he plopped down onto the sandy seabed, traumatized but alive. She ran down the strip of the parted sea, grabbed him by the wrist, and dragged him up to safety.
Yami let out a low whistle as he stood with the other guys, watching. "Wow... she did that so quickly."
"And without her Grimoire, too," Nozel added. "She's truly... special."
"Ka ka, that's the kind of woman I like," Jack said, pointing at her as she consoled the victim. "Quick to act, and competent... you don't come across them every day."
"I'll say." Fuegoleon crossed his arms. "I like a woman who can take care of herself." He remembered how quickly she defended herself on the mission.
"It's not just that she's strong, she's also... so authentic," Charlotte added timidly, drawing the others' gazes. "I mean... she told me that she used to be a servant in the King's service, until Lord Julius found her. She's seen the worst that we have to offer, yet she still hopes for the best in everyone. She's not trying to pretend. She wants to help everyone, and..." her voice trailed off. "...love everyone."
Yami blinked, impressed. Hmm... that sounds like someone else I know.
"Wow!!! That was amazing!!! You can even dehydrate the sea?!?! I've never seen anything like it!!" Julius had appeared out of nowhere and was practically vibrating with excitement. "Here... you deserve this!" He pulled out a gold star and handed it to his eager advisor.
"Hey! Old man!" Julius turned to see Yami stomping over, angry. "I thought Stars were only for Magic Knights? You can't just hand them out like that!"
"I'm the Wizard King, Yami, I can do what I want. And- er-" Julius laughed nervously. "Old?"
Yami rolled his eyes. "Whatever. Come on." He grabbed the girl's hand. "I'm going to teach you how to fish."
The afternoon was getting to it's end as Yami expertly baited the fishing hook, watched with eager eyes. "That's really cool... are you sure I'll be able to do it?"
"Sure. Here." Without any warning, Yami placed the pole in her hand and grabbed her by the waist, turning her around to face the sea. She let out a small sound of surprise at his strength, instantly blushing. "Here... just like this..." Yami gently took her wrist, guiding her movements. "Ready... go!"
With his help, she flung the pole forward, letting the hook sail through the air and plop into the water a few meters away. "There... that was a good cast."
"Really?" She beamed with pride. "Thank you, Yami!"
Yami felt his heart clench at the sight of her smile. It almost hurt, seeing her so happy... so happy that he was taking the time to teach her something. Yikes... I need to be careful. Something like this is so easily compromising me? He looked away to gaze at the sea. He still wasn't sure what exactly it was about her that he liked, other than her obvious good looks. She got excited about everything, something Yami couldn't be bothered to do himself. Maybe that was it... she couldn't be more than a few years younger than he was, yet she was so much more lively and optimistic... maybe I don't just want her. I need her.
"Yami! Yami! I got one!" She started to desperately reel in the line as something large tugged at the hook. "Ah! It's strong!"
Yami quickly helped her, letting her do the reeling while he steadied the pole. "That's it... just a little longer..."
With one last harsh tug, she ripped the fish out of the water and sent it sailing onto land, where it flopped around pathetically. She squealed with delight. "Yami! It's a shark! I caught a shark!"
Indeed, it was a shark. Yami winced as she just went ahead and picked it up. It's jaws snapped, but there was no way it could bite her from its position. "Wow... your first time fishing, and you catch a shark? I wonder if that's a good omen..." He raised his gaze back to her face, seeing how she was smiling up at him again. ...maybe I should say something... I'll tell her that seeing her so happy makes me happy? No... just say that she has a beautiful smile-
She spun around gleefully once with the shark before cupping her hand in her mouth. "Lord Julius! Come look at this!!!" she yelled.
Yami winced at her words. "Wait, there's something I wanted to-"
Julius was already sprinting over at the sound of her voice. "Ah! What on earth- you caught that?!" Julius's eyes were nearly bulging out of his head. "That was swimming around out there... when I was?" He eyed the shark's sharp teeth.
"No, they really only come close to shore at night," Yami explained bluntly, a little annoyed that his advances had been snuffed out before they began. "Here, give me the shark, I'll boil it down and make shark soup for dinner tonight."
The girl blinked, taking in his words. "...boil it?" she said slowly. She looked down at the shark, then back up at Yami, then at the shark, then at Yami...
Uh oh.
Then she burst into tears.
"I-I- I'm sorry Yami! I don't want it to die! It's such a b-beautiful shark, and so elegant and strong, I couldn't possibly eat it! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
Yami had no idea how to deal with a crying woman and started to panic. "Ah- er- hey, quit crying! It's fine, don't worry about-"
He suddenly realized that Julius was glaring at him uncharacteristically. "Look what you did, Yami! Making her cry? You're not going to make her eat this shark, are you?"
Hey! Stop making this worse! Yami thought to himself. "NO! I mean-" He turned back to her. "Hey, calm down, I was joking, alright? We can release the shark."
She sniffed but stopped crying. "...oh..." She even laughed a little. "A joke? I see... sorry, I didn't mean to break down like that..."
"It's fine. Here." He pointed at the ocean. "Why don't you let it go."
The shark squirmed out of her hands the moment she lowered it into the water, streaking off into the depths. She sighed and straightened up before turning to the two men behind her. "Thanks for teaching me how to fish, Yami! I'm going to go get some ice cream!"
... she looks very beautiful in the sunset.
With one last wave, she ran off down the beach, two pairs of eyes following her. Yami sighed heavily, then heard Julius chuckle. "You really aren't very tactful, Yami."
"Hmm? What would you know about that?" Yami asked, eyeing the older man suspiciously.
Julius just smiled cryptically. "Five people, all going after the same girl..." He shook his head a little. Yami didn't know why Julius knew about that, but then again, Julius knew about everything. Despite being a pain, Yami respected the man, and if he had any advice, he wanted to hear it. "Be careful not to get too caught up in the game. There's no guarantee that she'll pick any of you, come Three-Leaf day."
... he's right. She might be happier alone than with any of us. "You're going to have to really impress her. But I'm sure you'll do something interesting!" Julius started to walk away, raising his hand in a simple goodbye. "See you, Yami. Or would you like to get some ice cream, too?"
Yami blinked, thinking about his advice. That's right, I need to knock her off of her feet... I don't know if my Tanto knife is enough... "No, I'll pass."
"Your loss!" Julius turned away and took off down the beach, leaving Yami alone with a lot on his weary mind.

Tom Ford Quick Takes
Tom Ford is an easy perfume house to hate. They charge way too much for their fragrances, they advertise a crass, frat-boy image, and they’re responsible for the single worst-smelling perfume I’ve yet encountered, Black Orchid.
But the Private Blend line of upscale fragrances includes some gems.
Neroli Portofino
Notes: bergamot, mandarin, lemon, bitter orange, myrtle, rosemary, lavender; neroli, orange blossom, jasmine, pittosporum; amber, ambrette, angelica
This is a cologne, very close to the classic 4711, but more intensely floral -- I get juicy orange, swooning orange blossom, and spacious, radiant neroli. Bright and powerful. <3
Mandarino di Amalfi
Notes: tarragon, mint, blackcurrant, grapefruit, lemon, basil; orange blossom, clary sage, shiso, jasmine, black pepper, coriander; vetiver, amber, labdanum, musk, civet
This is also a bracing, citrusy cologne, but cooler, drier, more herbal and less floral than Neroli Portofino. There’s a metallic, crystalline chill to it, which may be from the clary sage and/or mint.
Fleur de Portofino
Notes: Bergamot, lemon, tangerine, petitgrain, violet leaf, syringa; osmanthus, black locust, magnolia, orange blossom, rose, jasmine; honey, labdanum, vanilla, tolu balsam, ambrette, civet
This is brightly fruity, and smells vividly of cantaloupe melon to me. Not the watery calone “melon” note, or the green-juicy melon in Diorella, but a sweet, orange-pink, musky melon. It might be an illusion created by osmanthus (a flower with an apricot-like scent) in combination with tangerine.  Behind the fruit, there are honeyed white flowers. It’s like eating a fruit salad on a rooftop terrace overlooking the sea.  Charming, but maybe a little juvenile.
Sole di Positano
Notes: Mandarin, lemon, bergamot, bitter orange, petitgrain; orange blossom, neroli, shiso, jasmine, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley; oakmoss
This smells lemony, delicate, and rather dark and somber, like antique bric-a-brac.
Costa Azzurra
Notes: driftwood, seaweed, oud, ambrette, celery seeds, cardamom; lemon, lavender, juniper, mandarin, wormwood, myrtle; oak, incense, mastic, frankincense, vanilla
This is powerfully herbal and astringent and I love it. It’s a potent, refreshing, bitter tonic. I’m probably getting the juniper/wormwood/myrtle combination the strongest. Juniper, here, is fragrant evergreen needles, not a gin note. Overall this smells like evergreen shrubs and bitter herbs against a dazzling blue sky.
Fougere D’Argent
Notes: mandarin, lavender, ginger; labdanum, akigalawood; tonka
This is a style of men’s perfume I find obnoxious; creamy-fatty-sweet tonka over a masculine lavender/coumarin fougere chord and a faintly animalic base. It’s louche and smug and kinda gross.
Fougere Platine
Notes: clary sage, bergamot, lavender, basil; wormwood, frankincense, labdanum, honey; tobacco, cedar, woody notes
The clary sage really comes out here and smells almost like tinfoil. Cruelly metallic. There’s also dark bitter tobacco.
Beau du Jour
Notes: lavender; rosemary, geranium, mint, oakmoss, basil; patchouli, amber
Wow. This is beautiful, in a way that’s very difficult to express.  Serious, dark, reverent, almost scholarly. My notes say “Indian?” and I’m not sure what that is, though another blogger smells cardamom and saffron.  Apparently it’s a throwback to 80′s men’s scents like Zino or YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme.
Jasmin Rouge
Notes: cinnamon, ginger, bergamot, cardamom, pepper, orange; jasmine, ylang-ylang, neroli, broom, clary sage; amber, vanilla, woods, leather, labdanum
This just smells like jasmine. Exactly like the jasmine flowers on my street. Lovely, realistic, rather mild-mannered.  Nothing “rouge” about it.
Cafe Rose
Notes: rose, saffron, black pepper; coffee; incense, amber, sandalwood, patchouli
This is a tea rose: dewy, fresh, and old-fashioned. Resting on a dusty, woody, faintly-smoky, faded base; there’s also something ambery-fruity going on. And maybe even some green notes. Lots of complexity, but all in a very muted key. No coffee.
Vert Boheme
Notes: galbanum, magnolia, violet leaf, honeysuckle, woods, mandarin
This is a plant. A shiny, dark-green, waxy, chlorophyll-rich leaf, like a rubber tree plant.  I’m guessing it’s the violet leaf. Apparently this is a reboot of vintage Cristalle. I’ve rarely met an intensely leafy fragrance I didn’t like; I feel very marketed to.
Vert D’Encens
Notes: resin, pine, incense, fir, boxwood, heliotrope, woods
The heliotrope predominates and smells overwhelmingly of Play-Doh. Behind it, there’s sweet rot. Not good.
White Suede
Notes: thyme, green tea; lily of the valley, saffron, rose; suede, musk, sandalwood, amber, frankincense
This is fascinating in that it doesn’t smell like a perfume at all. It smells like an art supply store. Wholly artificial, with a strange paint-like, choking effect -- not sure how else to say it, but it’s totally “flat”, with no depth. I wouldn’t call it pretty, but if you want an extremely minimalist and impersonal effect, it does that.
Tuscan Leather
Notes: raspberry, saffron, thyme; frankincense, jasmine; leather, suede, woods, amber
Fruity, stinky, piney, bonfire-y leather.  Almost like a fruit liqueur juxtaposed with smoke and leather. Very striking and new (to me) combination of notes; nothing at all like the other leather perfumes I’ve smelled.  Bold and legible to the point of being almost vulgar, but in a good way.
Soleil Blanc
Notes: pistachio, bergamot, cardamom, pink pepper; ylang-ylang, tuberose, jasmine; coconut, amber, tonka, benzoin
Suntan lotion.
Noir de Noir
Notes: rose, patchouli, black truffle, vanilla, oud, saffron, oakmoss
This actually smells “dark.” Alcoholic, bittersweet. I didn’t recognize it as “rosy” at all; it’s just a potent, narcotic, inky essence.
Champaca Absolute
Notes: cognac, bergamot, dyer’s greenweed; champaca, orchid, violet, jasmine; tolu balsam, vanilla, sandalwood, amber
There’s a fruity element to champaca, which is otherwise a creamy-golden tropical “white floral”. The effect is lush yet peaceful and delicate. The boozy opening note smells more like plum wine to me.
Plum Japonais
Notes: cinnamon, saffron; plum, immortelle, camellia, liquor, cypress; oud, amber, fir, benzoin, vanilla
My initial thought was “this is like Lutens” -- sweet, spicy, and ominous, full of cinnamon-stewed-plum richness. According to the internet, it’s an inferior ripoff of Fille en Aiguilles.
Vanille Fatale
Notes: myrrh, frankincense, rum, saffron, coriander, lime, orange; barley, coffee, frangipani, plum, wormwood, rose; vanilla, suede, mahogany, tobacco, patchouli, violet, oakmoss
Heavy, rich, ambery vanilla. Rich and ominous. Smells basically identical to other dark vanilla perfumes.
Tobacco Vanille
Notes: tobacco, spices; vanilla, cacao, tonka; dried fruit, woods
Fragrant, light sweet tobacco; less heavy than Chergui.
Oud Fleur
Notes: Oud, rose, resins, patchouli, sandalwood
Very tender and gentle May rose.
Oud Wood
Notes: Oud, rosewood, sandalwood, cardamom, vanilla, vetiver, sichuan pepper, amber
Mellow, rich and smooth, stinky-sexy oud.
Patchouli Absolu
Notes: patchouli, leather, cypriol, oakmoss, oud, bay, rosemary, cashmeran, amber, musk, tonka
A more civilized, likable patchouli than the raw stinkiness of Monsieur.  Still feels Eastern Mediterranean, but now less “hairy man taking out the trash” and more “romantic outdoor dinner, under a trellis, with the summer night wind blowing through.”
Oud Minerale
Notes: salt, seawater, seaweed, oud, pink pepper, styrax, ambergris, pepperwood, balsam fir
This does smell mineral! It’s like the bottom of a swimming pool, or like a river stone: smooth, wet, and dark-gray.
Oud Wood Intense
Notes: castoreum, oud, cypress, juniper, angelica, ginger
This is woody and restful, like a spa or a cabin in the forest.

Fairy Names
Fly with you! Do you have a fairy character you wish you could name? Maybe you’re writing a Disney Fairy fanfic and need names? Maybe you miss the name generator from Pixie Hollow online. Or maybe you just want some names.
Well you’re in luck. I’ve pulled all the names available from “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue” in the create-a-fairy section of the game. I’m pretty sure these were the exact names available on Pixie Hollow online as well since players were able to upload their fairies into the game.
Now I did get rid of names that are already in use from canon characters (that includes characters from The Never Girls series) and I got rid of repeat names with different spellings and only picked one(like Ashleigh and Ashley). They are arranged in alphabetical order from first name, middle name, and last name.
I hope you enjoy!!!!!!!

Blinded by the Sun
Harry Styles/Nick Grimshaw Ficlet
Another one of my Saturday Shorts (or more accurately now Sunday Shorts) for the anon prompt: Gryles unresolved sexual tension annoying everyone around them but they're all "Oh no we don't have any tension Aimee I have no idea what's you're talking about !"
Here’s ‘Blinded by the Sun’, anon. Also inspired by 2017 Mallorca Gryles and clique holiday activities. No content warnings, rating is mature but only just. Pretty much just fluff and humour.
Blinded by the Sun
Aimee
Nick can’t understand what all the fuss is about. He’s just trying to relax and enjoy himself and his friends – terrible, awful people – keep banging on about Harry this and Harry that, like Nick’s in love with him or something.
“You two.” Aimee points a long, acrylic nail at Harry and Nick. “You two are awful.”
“He’s awful.” Nick pokes Harry’s dimple and ruffles his hair which earns him a disgruntled look.
“Don’t make that ugly face, Harold. What if the wind changes and you end up like that for good?”
“Piss off, Grim.” Harry laughs and moves out of reach of Nick’s jabby fingers. He picks up his drink and sucks thoughtfully on his straw, giving Nick the up and down. He releases the straw with a pop.
“I do alright. Some people like this face.”
“I didn’t know.” Nick clasps his hand to his chest and he lets out a gasp of mock surprise. “International pop star and multi-millionaire movie star Henry Stars has fans?”
“You’re terrible, you.” Harry’s smiling around his straw and he doesn’t look like he thinks Nick’s terrible. Terribly funny, maybe.
Nick grins at Harry and gives him a wink. He puts his sunglasses on and takes the opportunity to watch a fit twenty-something blond saunter over to the pool in bright swimming trunks which leave absolutely nothing to the imagination.
“You know if you move your head we can still see you looking?” Harry points out, helpful soul that he is.
“Not bothered who can see me. You’ll see me talking to him in a minute.” Maybe five minutes. Nick’s quite comfy stretched out lazily next to Harry who smells like coconut suntan oil and keeps plying Nick with more cocktails. He can’t be arsed to get up even if it means he misses out on a shag or a quick blowjob. He’s currently commandeered two chairs and he’s fairly sure he’s going to lose the second if he goes anywhere. He doesn’t want to sit in the sun without his legs up. It makes his knees tan weird.
“Maybe I’ll talk to someone too,” Harry says.
“Sun lounger three rows back. Purple towel, Dolce sunnies and a Louis Vuitton shopper. Eating something kale based. Reckon she’s your sort. Looks a bit model-y.” Nick yawns and tips his face back into the sun. “If you’re interested.”
Harry hands Nick another cocktail and Nick can practically hear him shrugging. “Might go over in a bit.”
“Awful.” Aimee says again and Nick gives her the finger.
Gillian
“You’re such an idiot.” Gellz often calls Nick an idiot. She’s very sweet and says lovely things to him when he’s feeling crap but the rest of the time it’s really no-holds-barred.
“Bit rude.” Nick’s used to it by now. He fiddles with the collar of his shirt and decides to undo another button. He’s on his holidays after all. He wants to show off as much of his tan as possible. “Why am I an idiot this time?”
“Harry,” Gillian says. “Also, put your nipples away nobody wants to see them over their Paella. Except for Harry.”
Nick glares. “Not you too.”
“Years.” Gillian’s voice sounds a bit strangled. “How much longer are you going to keep doing this? I’ve seen you with people. Seen him with people. Seen you together.”
“A proper Mystic Meg, you.” Nick rolls his eyes. “Better get you a crystal ball and a broom or summat.”
“Mystic Meg doesn’t have a broom you bloody-” Gellz stops talking. It sounds like she’s counting to ten, but longer. Nick has been reliably informed that sometimes people have to count to twenty when he’s being particularly annoying. Obviously one of those times. “Harry. We’re talking about Harry. Because we’ve discussed it-”
“We?” Nick stops arranging his necklaces artfully in his chest hair.
“All of us.” Gillian waves her hand and thank fuck, that means nobody’s been on at Harry about this. “We’ve discussed it and we agree it’s painful watching you pair of twats refusing to see what’s right there under your noses.”
Nick finishes fiddling with his hair. His quiff looks spectacular tonight, even if he does say so himself. “Might be easier to see it if you gave us a loan of that crystal ball of yours,” Nick says.
Gellz responds with an argh of frustration and slams the door as she leaves.
Pixie
Nick finds himself sandwiched between Harry and Pixie as he takes a little bit of everything on the table. He likes lots of choice when he’s eating. He’s the sort to order four starters and no main. Nothing is more unappetising to Nick than massive bowl of the same, boring dish.
“Didn’t get any of the tortilla.” Harry looks around, a frown marring his perfectly average features. “I’m not happy about it.” He sounds fairly relaxed all things considered.
“Here.” Nick spears a mouthful with his fork and offers it to Harry who, instead of taking the fork like a normal person, lets Nick feed him in front of everyone and gives him a look that’s had stronger people than Nick chucking off their clothes and climbing into Harry’s bed before. Nick clears his throat and Pixie splutters next to him. “Careful, darling.” He pats her on the back a bit too hard. “Wouldn’t want to choke.”
“I didn’t get any tortilla either.” Pixie glances at Nick and she looks as though she’s about to start something.
“Better ask the chef to make you some more, then.” Nick polishes off the rest of his tortilla and earns himself a glare. “Pass us the wine, love.”
Two bottles appear in front of Nick, one white wine from Pixie and one red wine from Harry who apparently now answers to love.
“Rosé. My favourite.” Nick pours a splash of both into the same glass to avoid offending either of the monsters sitting next to him. If feels like that sort of evening.
“I want a photo,” Pixie announces. She holds up her polaroid camera and gestures to Nick and Harry. “This one’s just for me. No social media.”
Nick rolls his eyes. Does she expect them to kiss or something? He pushes Harry’s mouth up at the corners and grins at him. “Say cheeeese.”
“You’re disgusting,” Pixie says.
When Nick looks at himself making googly-eyes at Harry as the polaroid starts to develop, he has to agree.
Ian
“I don’t understand.” Ian looks over at Harry, currently making his way through the bar with a precariously balanced tray of shots. “I don’t understand why you’ve never gone there.”
“Excuse me, Ian. I’m not that kind of boy.”
Ian looks as if he’d rather be doing a celebrity dot-to-dot puzzle or colouring in or something instead of having to shout over the loud music to make himself heard.
“You’re exactly that kind of boy, Grim.” Ian shakes his head when Harry offers him a shot. “Just like Harry.”
“Pfft.” Nick rolls his eyes. It’s getting a bit much this constant insinuation that he and Harry are something, when it should be perfectly obvious they’re just good friends. Great friends. The best friends.
“What’s just like Harry?” Harry flops into the seat next to Nick and hands him a shot.
“Ian’s besmirching our good names. Calling us both slags.”
“Hey.” Harry frowns at Ian. “That’s not very nice.”
“Exactly what I said.” Nick gives Ian a smug look and points to the pin he wears whenever there aren’t too many people from the press about. The one Harry gave him. The one that’s been all over the world on Harry’s guitar strap and everything. Nick can practically smell the scent of rock star on it. “Take a leaf out of young Harry’s book. Treat people with kindness.”
“I’ll try to remember.” Ian rolls his eyes.
Nick takes the shot Harry hands him. “Cheers.”
“Cheers.” Harry stills Nick’s arm before he can down the shot. “Let’s do that thing where you link arms and drink at the same time. Like New Year’s.”
“I’ve never done that on New Year’s in my life.” Nick obliges anyway, linking his arm with Harry’s. On the count of three, they throw back their shots. The alcohol makes Nick a bit giggly and he hauls Harry closer ignoring the looks he’s getting. “Do the next one off your bellybutton if you like.”
“Sick,” Harry says.
Ian groans beside them.
Alexa
“I’m dying.” Nick’s fond of a dramatic statement and he really does feel deathly. The sun’s too hot, he’s got sunburn on his nose and his head’s pounding from too many shots and the terrible decision to mix white and red wine together. He can vaguely remember dancing to something with Harry and nearly getting a flailing limb in his face. He thinks it might have bruised his cheek.
“Have another cocktail.” Alexa isn’t one to suffer through Nick’s whining. She hands Nick a bottle of water which he drinks gratefully. “Where’s Harry?”
“Still sleeping.” Nick pulls his towel over his head. It smells like chlorine. “I left him to it.”
Alexa clears her throat. “Excuse me?”
Nick pulls the towel off his head and glares at her – the impact probably marred by his sunglasses. “It’s not like that.”
“I don’t see you sharing beds with any of us. Alexa props herself up on her elbow. She loves a gossip. “Did it happen? Was it good?”
Nick stares. “Did what happen? We raided the mini-bar and he fell asleep with his socks on. Feet right in my face.”
“Oh.” Alexa looks disappointed. “Well, there’s always tonight.”
“Not happening,” Nick says. “Absolutely, categorically, one hundred percent-”
“Morning,” Harry says. He sounds far too cheerful considering he matched Nick drink for drink. He pulls over a sun lounger and arranges it next to Nick’s. His fingers are fucking freezing against Nick’s chest and it’s not Nick’s fault if he lets out a very manly screech at the touch.
“Get off. I’m dying over here.”
“You’re going to burn.” Harry’s very serious about skincare. “Turn over, I’ll get your shoulders.”
Nick obliges and pretends he doesn’t hear Alexa snickering as Harry’s talented fingers work out the knots in his muscles and rub suntan lotion onto Nick’s back for far longer than is probably necessary.
Harry
Nick’s a couple of wines in when he decides to tell Harry everyone thinks they’re shagging.
“They won’t stop going on about it.” He takes a mouthful of his food and speaks around it even though that’s gross and he hates when other people do it. “Isn’t that stupid?”
Harry makes an mmhmm sound and tops up the wine. “Stupid.”
“That’s what I said. We’re friends on holiday. Two lads together.” Nick swallows the last of his food and wipes his lips with a napkin. He’s not at his most laddy admittedly, in a silk shirt with a bit of lace detailing. Still, that’s not the point.
“Lads, lads, lads.” Harry agrees. He high-fives Nick but does the thing where he just holds on for a bit, his fingers sliding through Nick’s. “Should be watching the footie.”
“Should be,” Nick agrees. Harry’s still holding his hand. “I’ve told them all, they’re bloody mental. Annoying, too.”
“I bet.” Harry’s closer now and his fingers squeeze Nick’s hand. “They know what we’re like. Just friends having a laugh.”
“Yeah.” Nick’s voice sounds more gravelly than usual and Harry’s breath is warm on his cheek. He smells like cheap white wine and vanilla ice-cream. “Just Grimmy and Harry Styles.”
Harry smiles and it does something peculiar to Nick’s heart. The kiss probably isn’t wholly unexpected. Harry’s been holding his hand for ages after all and he’s doing that thing where he looks very intent on something, very serious. Very much a I’m looking at your lips because I’d quite like to kiss you now moment.
Nick kisses Harry back. It’s unexpected, how it crashes over him. Overwhelming how they grapple with clothing and thank fuck this was a private meal on the balcony of Nick’s room overlooking the sea in a not at all romantic just good mates setting. Thank fuck they’re not in a restaurant or somewhere Nick can’t yank open Harry’s shirt and taste his skin. Everything is hot. The filthy, open-mouthed kisses. The slide of Harry’s tongue against Nick’s. Harry’s skin, the heavy weight of him in Nick’s palm and the last remnants of the setting sun on the rough wooden slats. They don’t even make it to the bed. They just roll out by the pool, fists wrapped around each other and lips fused together.
They finish on their backs, chests rising and falling with the gentle breeze. The night sky is blanketed with stars and the moon casts a silvery light on them. Nick can hear the lap, lap of the sea as small waves crash on the sand and the tide ebbs and flows.
Harry’s fingers find Nick’s as if he wants to stay connected. “They’re going to think we’re even more awful now,” Harry says. He sounds like he’s smiling.
Nick laughs and closes his eyes. “Yeah. I reckon they will. Might keep them guessing for a bit longer. Keep you all to myself for a bit.”
Harry rolls over, looking down at Nick. “You’re going to have them counting to twenty again.”
Nick shrugs. “Shouldn’t be so nosy then, should they?”
“Never did that shot off my bellybutton.” Harry plays with Nick’s necklaces, his fingers moving over the key Nick always wears around his neck. Nick suspects Harry’s a couple of sentences away from making an appalling key to my heart joke.
“What are we waiting for?” Nick nudges Harry away. “Get the tequila, Styles. I want you naked, salt on your nipples - not all four of them, mind - and lime in your mouth.”
Harry snorts with laughter and it should be unattractive but it’s not in the slightest. “Whatever you say, Grim.”
They do the shots and the rest and tell everyone the next day they fell asleep early after too much booze by the pool.
Nobody believes them.

Cottage Witchcraft
Let's introduce an entire type of witchcraft today: mine! Well, one of the two I claim. Cottage witchcraft is a specialty of those who like to work with anything in the home, the Home and Hearth to be precise. This means cooking, cleaning, family magic, gardening, etc. We're gonna go over my personal cottage witchy practice and what I use for everyday magical things.
My brand of cottage witchcraft gives more emphasis on healing and care of my family through cooking. I like to sew and knit, especially for gifts. I'd like to eventually expand into gardening and creating natural products, like bath bombs and candles. I also specialize in tea and it's brewing (and tooootally wanna try tea leaf reading one day). In magic, I like to use everyday household items. My first altar, which I no longer have, had a multi-pointed knife from my husband, a champagne glass, loads of tea light candles, some rocks from outside, sea shells I've had since I was 7, some koshar salt, a light snuffer, and it all sat on a Christmas tree rug (the kind you put under the tree). Wasn't perfect but it was what I had, and that's what works best for me and my craft. Some of the best things a cottage witch can use, though, are in the kitchen. It may be the kitchen witch in me coming out (probably is) but using store-bought herbs in place of fresh ones works just as well. We go through garlic like crack in this house, mostly because of me. Salt, especially sea or kosher salt, can be used anywhere. I kept some in half of a coconut shell on my altar for snuffing out paper when I charged sigils and did my stress relief spell. Jars! All the jars! Keep them, clean them, store them, use them continually. During my pregnancy, we bought tons and tons of mandarin oranges, peaches, pears, and cherries in little glass jars from Wally World. We still have some (my daughter's 6 1/2 months old by the by...) and they're AWESOME. I stored my relaxation soak in it and other bathy goodness recipes. Candles are one of the must-haves for any kind of magic. But, I'm broke and live in a college dorm. So the next best thing? Wax melts! I just pour the leftover wax into an old candle, which I'm not allowed to burn on campus (psst. don't tell my R.A.), and store it for later. Especially since I'm planning on recycling the wax for candle making later. I have a giant stash of yarn and it's perfect for magical practices. If you haven't read my knot magic post, some of the simpliest spells you can perform are with yarn. Plus, for those who aren't out of the broom closet, it doesn't look witchy in the slightest when you're knitting. Unless you're knitting at, like, fifty miles per hour. Then that's definitely witchcraft. One of the best things about being a cottage witch, though? My home is my altar. When someone steps into my home, the most magical things you'll see are dragon statues and boxes of tarot cards. Besides that, you wouldn't tell. Cottage witchcraft can be incredibly personalized because we all run our homes differently. Our domains have different energies and functions. Each room in our house serves a different purpose, literally and magically. My home is an ecceltic cluster fuck but it's personalized to me and the life I live. There's tapestries on the ceiling, Dracula and Deadpool posters, butterfly stickers and stuffed teddy bears everywhere, a breast pump with a permanent set up on top of a printer, and a bag full of cans hanging off the back of the front door. It's scattered and everywhere and mine. Magic needs to be personal like that, for everyone. For you. When you make your spirituality fit the life you live instead of the other way around I feel it's much more enriching. And off the soap box *steps down*.
