The staff at the flower shop withered inward when they spotted Bakugou's tall frame slam into the shop, afraid that he had broken the door. Loud stomps on the linoleum, anger simmering off of him. 'Would you be able to do one of those old time flower language type bouquets?' He'd seen the little nerd's eyes gleam with excitement whenever anyone gifted him a yellow rose. It being a symbol of friendship. Bakugou adored his company but the 'he' in question wasn't listening, giving him the cold shoulder instead thus he had to find a way to make him listen. 'It won't be exact, but yea, we can do that. What are you wanting the bouquet to say?'

'I want it to say fuck you.' Clarification held within the statement as to make sure the person helping him didn't think he was saying 'fuck you' directly to them. Rather, he just needed something of shock value. He goal was to purposely anger Izuku. After the hole in his pocket was burned, Bakugou thanked the clerk and left with a bouquet of geraniums, blue delphinium, meadowsweet, yellow carnations and orange lilies. Everyone who passed him on his way back to the dormitory made the correct decision to stay clear. They probably pondered the reason why someone would buy flowers if they were that angry at the recipient.

Bakugou assumed Izuku wasn't home as he couldn't find the greenie nor could he find Kirishima who Deku tasked with keeping the hothead away from him. Checking to make sure no one was around, Bakugou creeped into Izuku's room, placing the wrapped bouquet on his desk. 'We need to talk, Deku. -Bakugou' was all he had written on the accompanying card. 'Good, they're not smashed.'

'Why are you disappointed!?' Izuku all but screamed at him. 'I'm not. Just needed a way to get your attention.'

'Then let's talk,' Izuku responded, confused as to what he felt. All he knew was that he wanted his best friend back.

Housewife Bakugou (Bakudeku)

When they first got married, Bakugou wanted to work just as hard, if not harder, than Deku. He wanted to support his husband and give him the option to stay home! Then Izuku became the number one hero and made almost double Bakugou's salary.

Now he was the stay at home one, and honestly? He wouldn't have it any other way. So now there he was, making dinner for husband and waiting on pins and needles for him to come home. Everyone was always shocked to hear that Bakugou was a house husband, and yeah sometimes he missed the action, but being able to provide for Izuku and let him come home to clean house and hot dinner made it all worthwhile.

When Izuku did come home he was exhausted, work had ran him out and he could barely make it to the couch. Then, just like they did every night, him and Bakugou snuggled together on the couch, just holding each other and enjoying each other's company before eating dinner. Maybe they'd watch a movie or two, but usually they just laid down together and simply whispered sweet nothings to each other as they fell asleep

So yeah, maybe this wasn't the domestic bliss Bakugou envisioned, but it's still bliss all the same.

i only found out about this zine today, and was interested in applying as an artist at first, but asking for 3 different concrete (and mandatory) pitches on its own is already a tall order for a zine i haven't even been accepted to yet, and having to supply sketches on top of it is even worse! a detailed summary seems like a lot to ask up front for writers, too... i vibe with this zine's mission, but that's just too many requirements for a mere application. i hope you'll consider this feedback for next year.

I'm sorry to hear of your feelings on our application process, but I hope this will help clear some of your concerns.

Our application process doesn't ask for concrete pitches or sketches. As far as I've been able to gather, it's customary for zines to ask for pitches during the application process. I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to participating in zines, so I spend a lot of time looking into the application of other zines and conferring with my mods about the best procedures for us.

It may seem like a matter of schemantics, but we don't ask for sketches, we ask for concept thumbnails. From my understanding, a single thumbnails should take no more than a few minutes to create, and is designed to be a very rough draft of a sketch. It usually focuses solely on the main focus point, and is often subject to extensive changes throughout the production process.

While my wording was initially misleading during the first edition, back in 2022, I've since been corrected by a very patient applicant, and the wording has been justly rectified in this year's application requirements.

We ask for thumbnails, not sketches.

Adding to that, when pressed on the issue of whether this was a bothersome or unreasonable requirement during an anonymous performance survey, our contributors had no qualms with this aspect of our application process. This being said, we'll revisit this issue with our future contributors once the project is over, and will work on making changes from that.

As for our authors' application, we've actually lowered our requirements from last year's applications. Where we previously required a 500 word blurb for each of our authors' pitches, we now ask for a detailed description.

When asking for a description, we're asking for anything from a summarized run-down of the intended piece, an intended pairing (FF werewolf/human; Mer!BakuDeku; etc), character descriptions, fandoms, or any other information which may help paint a picture for us.

I've looked into a large number of writing anthologies, and our requirements are quite lenient in comparison.

This may help understand our expectations a little better:

At the end of the day, how much you give us is entirely up to you. It isn't mandatory to provide thumbnails or detailed descriptions. We have applicants who've ignored our requirements before, and it was of no real issue to us.

The reason for our extensive requirements is deeply tied to this project's missions, however, and allows us to select through a wide variety of stories and characters. The MonsterMASH! zine strives to bring people together, and create a product in which stories and art actively coexist. Our application's requirements allow us to meet our project's mission of showcasing a wide array of stories.

It helps us sort through applicants who may have pitches which are a little too similar to another's, and choose which creator would be better suited for our project. This process has worked wonderfully for us so far, and was met with fairly positive feedback.

You're under no obligations to provide us with anymore information than you're willing to offer us. We will consider your application regardless. However, other applicants who do meet our requirements will likely score higher than you, and we'll be made to consider their application before yours.

On a different note, I'd hate to leave any aspiring applicant to feel disappointed. My mods are very busy, and I feel it unfair to ask any impromptu work out of them when they're not paid to help me. However, I think it shouldn't be too much additional work on us to offer you some additional time to work on your application!

what if, when Kacchan is confronting Deku about leaving without him and trying to fight AFO and all his hired goons on his own(bonus if he's come home injured because of Lady Nagant's attacks, since I've seen some pretty cool fanart lately related to this idea)

And when Deku finally breaks down in tears about how he can't bear to see Kacchan injured for his sake ever again, he says it something like

"When he hurt you, when you fell, It BROKE MY HEART.

I CAN'T DO IT AGAIN, KACCHAN. I JUST CAN'T. If my heart breaks anymore, there won't be anything left."

And probably Kacchan looking dumbstruck, hopefully hugging Deku and telling him to shut the fuck up and let him in anyway(in his own, abrasive but secretly loving way)

(once again, if anyone wants to run with this in any sort of fanfic, you can definitely do so! I simply don't have enough time to develop a full one-shot around this. But as usual I thought I'd share.)

Any way, I think I would literally bawl my eyes out if this happened, and probably declare BKDK canon, at least on Izuku's side lol.

izuku growing up with only yarrows from inko. everlasting love. they are the first flowers he’s ever had blooming in him—the first he collected. he saw their little buds and knew they are from his mother’s, and izuku hopes his flowers for her are just as beautiful.

they are. inko blooms sunflowers from him. adoration.

when izuku meets katsuki, he blooms white gardenias. inko giggled when izuku showed her his flowers from katsuki, blushing brightly. you are lovely.

he wonders what his flowers for katsuki are, and if he likes them as much as izuku loves his. (purple delphinium. first love. katsuki strongly does.)

when he turns ten, he stopped blooming gardenias. izuku waits, seeing if katsuki would have more flowers for him. but he is empty, and izuku goes back to only having yarrows. he cries that night, holding onto the jars filled with dried gardenias.

(katsuki stopped blooming delphiniums. a week later, a blue salvia flutters from his throat. i think of you.)

with these flowers in hand, izuku runs to katsuki’s room. “kacchan?” he asks despite the coughs that threaten to scratch at his throat again.

Izuku giggles and brushes Katsuki’s bangs away from his forehead with gentle wonder and warmth like the sun. “Will you still love me then? When I’m old and ugly and no longer fit?”

A smile tugs at the edges of Katsuki’s lips, not quite making it as the blond tamps it down. He gently puts his calloused sweaty palm over Deku’s freckled ones and leans his cheek into the touch. “Forever, I said, didn’t I? So yes,” he snorts.

The irritable pro-hero jabs a finger into the shorter man’s side.

“I’ll love you forever--” Poke.

“--even when you’re ugly,” Poke.

“fat,” Poke.

“senile,” Poke.

“--or whatever the fuck else you manage to be when we grow old. Got it nerd?”

Below him, the green-haired man dissolves into a fit of ticklish giggles as he tries to move away from Bakugou’s prods while leaning into his touch all the same. There’s a gentle squeeze on his heart that thuds so painfully against his chest, and the world feels alive. Katsuki looks over at his soulmate and holds him close, burying his nose in curly green hair as he breathes in deep.

He prays to anything listening that they will grow old together.

Past Memories

He remembers when his first goldfish passed in the night. He ran down the creaky, old stairs to feed it only to find its body floating through the water. He doesn’t remember the gender anymore, maybe he never knew the gender, but his mom rushed down the stairs and held a small funeral for it. The funeral was a bit much now that he thought about it, but his six-year-old heart and mind didn’t like the idea of everything leaving one day. He cried during that funeral, that stupid funeral with the two as it’s only attendants. He doesn’t remember the name either, maybe he never named it.

Warm arms pull Izuku from his dream and back into the bright sunlight rushing through the blinds. There’s the idea of a bright light entering a person’s vision when they pass, he wonders if his fish saw the light too.

Someone’s breath heats up the small of Izuku’s back and he looks down to see arms wrapping around his waist, arms carrying too many scars. A body moves behind him and a face slides into view.

His blond, spiky hair is the same as always except it’s shorter now. His ruby eyes stay closed, the ruby eyes Izuku loves so much and were so filled with love the previous night when he walked through the front door last night. He’s shirtless, Izuku realizes a bit late, and scars cover his chest too.

His eyes open and stares down his green eyes, “What’re you looking at, nerd?”

A smile tugs at his lips and Izuku lets it form as he turns around in the space of Katsuki’s arms. He faces the blond and takes in the creases beginning on his forehead and the frown already claiming its place. Izuku smiles and keeps smiling until Katsuki yawns. The blond throws the blankets off his body and climbs out of bed. Red eyes turn back to glare at Izuku, the old hate missing from them.

Katsuki turns and walks towards the bathroom while running a hand through his hair. It’s the little things Izuku is grateful for, for example, the fact they both returned home mostly unscathed.
